  • Nanofuture

    February 15, 2012 at 12:36 am

So… are all the DVD bonus features going to be uploaded or something?

  • aztoya06

    February 15, 2012 at 12:41 am

Hahahaha! I loved when Mike was talking about that stick thing and how you might hit someone if you forgot to take it off. I almost died I was laughing so hard. You guys are hilarious I must say.

    • CCH3900

      February 15, 2012 at 12:42 am

  • CCH3900

    February 15, 2012 at 12:41 am

Well, that was the 90s. Pointless hardware that tried to be ahead of its time, but instead fell flat on its backside.

    • JimmyTheFish

      February 15, 2012 at 7:55 am

@CCH3900 Oh we have had some stinkers and its only been 1 year, the kinetic only had about 5 games none of the even close to being good.

Great video! More like this, please! I love seeing all these horribly shitty old peripherals. I wanted one of these SO bad as a kid

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLX5LwI6w68

Turns out later in life I found out they were huge pieces of shit. Meanwhile the rockerpad has still never been surpassed and systems like the 360 wish they had it.

  • DrinkinSantorum

    February 15, 2012 at 1:18 am

I’ve seen something like this before – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDEebdmfqpA – It didn’t have a screen but the closeup seemed to be the same deal, a blurry plastic screen between you and the game screen itself. The box on the CyberFX 3D warned about permanent eye damage so I wouldn’t recommend using this for too long, not that you’d want to with the headaches anyway.

    February 15, 2012 at 4:06 am

Looks like you were missing the cable for the SNES, seen a video where someone did have a cable for it. That being said also the SNES one was idiotic to connect and the screen still shit.

So yeah a useless piece of crap that thing.

  • February 15, 2012 at 4:21 am

Funny video. Brings back memories of trying to plug weird video game consolses and stuff. It was always like that and luckly you at least have a great collection of consoles to try that thing on, back in the days we were forced to just give up most times.

  • mrmulligan81

    February 15, 2012 at 4:22 am

I can recall seeing this in some sort of ad in a magazine when I was like 13 or 14.

  • NathanielLenox

    February 15, 2012 at 4:38 am

Hey kids, do you hate your friends to no end? Is sharing a screen with them the most miserable experience of your life? would you rather stab yourself in the eyes and collapse your nasal bridge than sit there knowing you are looking at the exact same thing as the piece of shit motherfucker you invited into your own home? Now you can have the best of both worlds with the Virtual Reality Stuntmaster!

The Virtual Reality Stuntmaster offers the greatest technology two gamegears merged together has to offer, and it’s easy to install! Simply put the two video lines into the ports in the back of your console you completely forgot about, clip the support beam to your shirt, solve the mystery of the AC adapter that is 1.5x thicker than the other AC adapters in order to contain it’s awesomeness, and there you go you elitist assholes.

The Virtual Reality Stuntmaster includes it’s own line of multiplayer games, including “Face Fracture” Where a doctor tries to figure out what the hell happened to your nose, and “You can’t see me”, where you tap your ass around the streets of your home town with a stick.

    • aztoya06

      February 15, 2012 at 2:22 pm

      @NathanielLenox

Hahahaha! Nice! Yea I do hate my friends to no end!! Man it sounds so cool I want one! :) kidding but this comment is so ridiculously hilarious.

  • ToniLuhtakallio

    February 15, 2012 at 4:40 am

Damn…this episode would have been hilarious if AVGN himself made it:)

    • DavidDupont

      February 15, 2012 at 5:47 am

@ToniLuhtakallio was thinking the same thing :)

Nice break from all your other stuff james – Really enjoyed this one. I generally like when you and Mike do videos like this – always turn out funny! Thanks!

  • komothoes

    February 15, 2012 at 5:41 am

i had one of them when i was a kid it was cool for the time i used it for the super Nintendo i just used it some times when we would go places that had no tv’s or we just had one and no one wanted to watch me play games it was fun back then

    • DanielV

      February 15, 2012 at 5:47 am

@komothoes you should explain how you got it working on a SNES.

I suppose kids aren’t as susceptible to eye strain as us old folks, hence you enjoyed it.

      • metalcommand

        February 15, 2012 at 5:48 am

@DanielV@komothoes James is missing a cable.

      • DanielV

        February 15, 2012 at 5:50 am

        @metalcommand @komothoes lol, cable madness

      • DanielV

        February 15, 2012 at 5:51 am

        @metalcommand @komothoes

It makes me appreciate HDMI, even though I don’t use it.

      • FibonacciZombi

        February 15, 2012 at 7:52 am

@DanielV @komothoes That and their particular head set could be faulty. Well more so than it is.

  • komothoes

    February 15, 2012 at 6:06 am

lol yup just change out the cable part for sega there’s one for snes ver

  • AmauryTheWarrior

    February 15, 2012 at 6:55 am

i think it was mike who put it best from the beginning – this thing sucks.

  • fizzlesticks23

    February 15, 2012 at 6:57 am

The first cable Mike showed that said it wasn’t SNES was an s-video cable, there were SNESs with s-video out.

  • Jime W.

    February 15, 2012 at 7:31 am

Nice one. Hilarious when you and Mike are cracking up about the paraplegic neck-support brace pole.

  • AronLarssonShaghoie

    February 15, 2012 at 7:40 am

Oh god, this shit was so bad it even got a serious review

  • gamepopper

    February 15, 2012 at 8:07 am

I think one of the connectors is the old AV connector that’s for the Genesis Model 1, so yeah I think it wouldn’t work on the Genesis 2.

  • Trojan_Reggae

    February 15, 2012 at 8:07 am

First off, I love that James is rockin a CONAN shirt, TEAMCOCO FTW! And B: I remember that thing from ads in gaming mags from the early 90′s. I had always thought it was two small screens. I had the first gen Sega Master System with the 3-D goggles with Missle Defense 3D and Space Harrier 3D. If you stood far enough back, the 3D effect would stretch across the room. That was the closet I ever saw to VR in a console gaming.

    • Trojan_Reggae

      February 15, 2012 at 8:09 am

      closest*

      “closet” lol!

  • Mister Buckethead

    February 15, 2012 at 8:19 am

Man, when i was a kid, i remember seeing this kind of bullshit gadget at the store, and it sounded really promising, i wanted it so bad. Now, that i see this, i’m glad i stood away from that Pizzashit

  • LazarheaD

    February 15, 2012 at 8:20 am

Why was that not an AAVGN episode? C’mooon!

    • Trojan_Reggae

      February 15, 2012 at 8:34 am

@LazarheaD I second that, no reason this couldn’t have been AVGN. In fact it had several set ups for The Nerd to rage all over this.

    • pitpepe

      February 15, 2012 at 8:45 am

@LazarheaD It was one of the bonus features on AVGN DVD vol 4

  • GrzegorzWojtczyk

    February 15, 2012 at 8:23 am

Just another piece of nostalgic shit they tried to sell to rich kids who thought they are “cool” because they have something like this.

  • dumbassbitch13

    February 15, 2012 at 9:04 am

I looks like you could see through the moon with that thing, and it most get pretty uncomfortable wearing it for long periods of time.

  • February 15, 2012 at 9:14 am

This thing makes you look like a shittier Geordi LaForge.

    • MikeDuval

      February 15, 2012 at 9:22 am

      @PresidentRonnie LMAO. Good job

  • HL

    February 15, 2012 at 9:21 am

I love how the biggest problem James has with that thing is not that it’s a fucking piece of shit, but the fact that it doesn’t connect to the super nintendo.

  • MenyKU

    February 15, 2012 at 9:54 am

I’d like to see something on the “virtual reality” arcade games of the mid-90s, i thought they looked pretty cheesy at the time, but it seems they were rather popular for a while.

  • bichodigital

    February 15, 2012 at 10:04 am

Oh man, like 20 years ago a rich friend of mine had it but he couldn’t figure out how to use it, and I’ve always wondered about it till this moment. Another case solved for me! Thanks so much!

  • MartinTollberg

    February 15, 2012 at 10:52 am

Wow another virtual reality tempt gone wrong. I can’t believe after all that trouble it didn’t work. This thing makes Virtual Boy look great which sucks ass too. Is it any wonder why we never got Virtual Reality done right. Because most people that try it half ass the whole concept. I mean gaming keeps getting better yet that’s still stuck in the stone age come on.

  • February 15, 2012 at 10:54 am

I saw Gamester81′s review of this product and Mike…. You’re wearing the stick incorrectly. It is supposed to hook onto the visor and the other end rests itself on your upper chest.

  • February 15, 2012 at 10:55 am

This is definitely one of the best videos of all time. Somehow, your videos of Mike and you sitting on a couch just talking about movies, T.V. shows, or games are the best. It’s like Wayne World’s, but better.

  • DonSkiver

    February 15, 2012 at 10:58 am

Looks like you were missing the other squid cable for the SNES. Not that it matters really, its still a piece of shit that doesn’t fucking work. And yes James, the name of those types of cables is actually “Squid cables.”

  • judgen1

    February 15, 2012 at 10:59 am

The octopus cable as you call it, is missing for the SNES in your box. Mine came with two different cables one for Mega Drive and the other for the SNES

  • Ghoulie

    February 15, 2012 at 11:03 am

I had one of those when I was a kid. I played Beavis and Butt-head on it for Sega. I’m pretty sure there were two different cable, one for Sega, and one for Super Nintendo. The stick on the side was “supposed” to move the screen side to side as you moved your head side to side (it didn’t work.) Anyway, a couple months after playing Beavis and Butt-head I tried to use it again, but I used the wrong AC adapter and fried it.

    • Frameskipper

      February 15, 2012 at 11:11 am

@Ghoulie Yes there is a second “Squid-Cable-Adapter” that connects it to the Super Nintendo.

  • February 15, 2012 at 11:21 am

Heh, nice quick review. Will you do a proper AVGN once you are done with the movie (after looking up all the details on the internet), or is it too crappy to repeat? ;)

    • firewarrior2112

      February 15, 2012 at 1:36 pm

@Edward256 i would guess that they covered many of the topics they wanted to bring up, so it would most likely be a polished version of the same thing. so i dont think they would do one.

  • SorabOliaji

    February 15, 2012 at 11:21 am

    Dear James or Mikey

Try getting a toolbox drawer system , where you can label your ac adapters , if you got the time to sort them out…… oh wait

    • February 15, 2012 at 11:23 am

@SorabOliaji I’m sure they’ll get there, but not during the shoot. But what’s wrong with a big pack of stickers? Or even paper tape? That they might melt? Maybe…

      • Strazdas

        February 15, 2012 at 11:28 am

@Edward256 Have you ever tried to make stickers on your AC adapters? they simply wont hold as the glue does not like the heat. they just fall off. you need special heat resistant stickers.

      • February 15, 2012 at 6:15 pm

@Strazdas My father has. Most of the stickers have been small circles and some have been white squares. The white square ones have been mainly used to put dates on left over food.

Then again, I’m not sure how often those adapters have been used. I think they were stuck on in… 80′s, 90′s, and still holding (those that I still have).

  • Strazdas

    February 15, 2012 at 11:26 am

The actual reason for this was so that kids wouldnt take over the TV, as this meant you need no TV to play.

    • AnKun

      February 15, 2012 at 11:39 am

@Strazdas you could by small TV for teh price of this piece of fuckign shit

  • EeksTheCat

    February 15, 2012 at 11:42 am

You could of made a great AVGN episode out of this thing!

  • Erwinator

    February 15, 2012 at 11:45 am

Sony made something like this not so long ago.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZCYKk_ZxkY

    • Erwinator

      February 15, 2012 at 11:50 am

oh yes . it is very expensive :P and can play ps3games?????

      • metalcommand

        February 15, 2012 at 1:13 pm

@Erwinator Yes, yes it can. OLED HD screen (2d and 3d), 5.1 sound and compatible with bluetooth equipment, but it also works with the ps3 system. It takes up (almost) all of your eyesight, so it’s like you’re ‘in’ the game/movie (imagine that with 3d..wow).

  • iAFXi

    February 15, 2012 at 11:58 am

    already saw this

  • wishingW3L

    February 15, 2012 at 12:28 pm

U know there’s a prototype of these for the PS3 with 2 mini OLED screens, 3D, surround sound and stuff. The headset looks exactly like those goggles that they use in Ghost in the Shell when the cyberized people connect their brains to the internet. XD

    • metalcommand

      February 15, 2012 at 1:24 pm

@wishingW3L 5.1 sound and HD quality, compatible with your ps3 and other bluetooth devices. You can already pre – order it for $800,- ;)

      • gamez

        February 15, 2012 at 1:25 pm

@metalcommand @wishingW3L Dude I have so many of your comments in my email its not a joke.

    February 15, 2012 at 12:33 pm

As soon as I saw the title, I flashed back to the “Spielberg Games” episode of AVGN and remembered how James was interested in virtual reality as a kid.

This was hilarious and I completely lost it at the part where Mike is talking about 2 player clamps. Love the new videos.

  • NathanPappe

    February 15, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Hey, so you are supposed to have 2 of those squid wire things. the one you have is only for the Genesis. The other one would be specifically for the Super nintendo, just thought you might want to know.

  • fightgenie

    February 15, 2012 at 12:39 pm

“Are you tired of the EASY way to play video games?”

Yeah I watched this on the DVD and I thought this was hilarious. The most of the video (spiller) you just sit there and try to figure it out how to get it to work. haha.

The resume is the best part.

  • callanbrown

    February 15, 2012 at 1:17 pm

It was sort of covered by another post, but the stick is meant to rotate a little potentiometer on the side that sends left and right controller signals, that’s why you need to plug it in to the controller port.

  • killer7_tom

    February 15, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Yay, european plug! Did you achieve any controls by head movement?

    • metalcommand

      February 15, 2012 at 1:23 pm

@killer7_tom I think the motion sensor sucks as much as the motion sensor in the Rollin’ Rock. IT FUCKING SUCKS!

  • Justin Mason

    February 15, 2012 at 1:26 pm

What were they thinking when they made this? Really. It looks like they were trying to make a utility for lazy people with pretty bad eye vision…but it looks like they were trying to make things worse. :P

      February 15, 2012 at 1:28 pm

@MegAtronia Everyone who reviews this piece of shit is negative about it. They hook it up in a good way. Why is it shitty then?1) the motion control sucks balls and isn’t responsive. 2) The screen is blurry, small and puts a lot of strain on your eyes.3) IT’S. NOT. VR.

Oh… My… God… That could’ve been a great AVGN episode! Ah well, next time perhaps, or not. I don’t expect that kind of technology to work at such an early stage of gaming, maybe the next 50 yrs we might finally get Virtual Reality gaming but at that time, even now I just don’t see it happening. But of course the power glove was a failed experiment but it only took 17 yrs til they got the “game sensor” working (Nintendo Wii) So who knows when Virtual Reality will work and to be honest I could care less.

only needing a power source and no tv to play your games was a good idea. when this was out. i’ve never used it and it maybe to cheap to work, however the idea is sound and i had no problem playing the game gear. the idea is obsolete now being that my 22′ tv is thiner and lighter than a ps3 and both would fit in your back pack, then again, soon tech will shrick and this toy will be back again in the form of regular sunglasses. if vicktormaxx sucks, it’s probably in it’s screen limitations due to funding. is that shoulder stick not there to hold the thing in place as that cord pulls on it from one side?. atleast it’s got a light in there to see what you’re doing

  • Calavera

    February 15, 2012 at 2:42 pm

You guys really seem stupid in this video, between Mike not realizing the resume was a joke and James not realizing that you need a SNES adapter for the headset, and don’t say it’s because he has never used one before. I’ve never even seen one of these before, it is just common sense that you are missing the adapter. Why do you think the “computer plug” is there? But Mike takes the cake for stupidity, he just acts so dumb in this video. If this was the first video I had ever watched of him, I would honestly think he had something wrong with him and I’m not even joking.

    February 15, 2012 at 2:59 pm

James, I’m reallly surprised you didn’t know how original sega mega drive AV out plug looks like….

BTW, this connector, which looks like RS-232 on console’s back was supposed for modem (for online gaming or something) which was never released outside japan.

Nice video, though… Shame you didn’t make it as another AVGN episode but it’s still good…

    • NikitaKuzmichev

      February 15, 2012 at 3:01 pm

I would find a way to connect this thing to SNES. It’s easy to make a converter but you need to be kinda techniclly advanced and have some skills in soldering. I can make a diagram if you want…

      • MikeCairns

        February 15, 2012 at 3:05 pm

@NikitaKuzmichev You do not need to be technically skilled. A monkey with a soldering gun could do it.

      • NikitaKuzmichev

        February 15, 2012 at 4:12 pm

@MikeCairns Yeah, but you still need to have some soldering skills, find connectors diagrams, be accurate and know some electricity basics etc… I’ve already made a bunch of video converters like this…

  • Calavera

    February 15, 2012 at 3:07 pm

I have never seen one of these before but I knew the solution to every problem they were having, and I have never used one or never seen one. 1. How do you hook it up to the SNES? Well remember that “computer port” where all the cables for the Genesis plugged in? Obviously there is a separate SNES cable. 2. Where do you plug in the power? Durr it’s not on the console. Seriously? Try the plug you were trying to plug the SNES into like idiots. 3. How do we get video to this, it aint’ coming through the controller cable Well no shit it isn’t, remember the plug you called the “Commodore 64 plug” remember how the Genesis 1 has a port exactly like that for composite out? 4.Godfather on hologram, what is this? 5 lines later, what is this just a joke? Yes Mike son of a bitch it is a joke, it is a resume for the headset it is just a fucking joke, are you that stupid I really hope you were “pretending” to be stupid, but it honestly didn’t seem like you were. Just think folks this is the guy you donated over $300,000 too.

    • NathanielLenox

      February 15, 2012 at 3:20 pm

      @Calavera

I also love how you knew all the answers after they already figured it out and made a video about it. It’s kind of like if I bought a piece of software that took a little extra brainpower to figure out how to opperate, because it came with russian missile launch codes instead of instructions on how to opperate the program, watched some kind of tutorial online, watched a problem occur and watch them troubleshoot it, then told them “Of course you forgot this step, it’s so obvious. Derrr.

    • paulyg11

      February 15, 2012 at 3:32 pm

@Calavera If you are such an expert with this stuff, then why don’t you take some time out of your busy schedule (ie. masturbating in your parents’ basement) to make and post a video on it! Looking at your profile, you have not ONCE made a positive comment on this site. Everything you’ve said has been negative bullshit about James or Mike or the videos. So why the fuck do you keep coming back to this site? Even if he DID cancel the movie and keep the money we all donated (I personally donated $40 btw), I would not be upset considering he has been making amazing videos for the past 7+ years and has never before asked for a cent. So considering we have been given hours upon hours of entertainment for absolutely nothing I think you should just shut the fuck up. It’s one thing to not like the video but to personally bash James and Mike is fucking retarded.

    • FanBoy94

      February 15, 2012 at 3:33 pm

@Calavera Really? Calm the fuck down. They’re trying to play a game from decades ago. It was a piece of shit then and it’s a piece of shit now. And yeah, they knew the resume was a joke. THAT’S WHY THEY KEPT READING IT! And you’re going to tell people they donated $300,000 to a guy who can’t hook up a piece of shit, or just has better things to do with his time?! Rot in hell, asshole.

  • amndopey

    February 15, 2012 at 4:15 pm

I had this when I was a kid. I remember when I got it I too was like “wtf is this?”. Most of the other commentors are right. I had it for SNES and there was a separate “squid” cable for that system. The bar did hook up exactly as Mike was trying to do, except on my device the piece that physically connected to the VR thing wasn’t detachable. When you moved your head left and right the piece on the VR would swivel and cause left and right movement on the screen (as if you were hitting L & R on the keypad). So on a game like contra you would look like you were biting your shoulder the whole game just to scroll. It was a PITA and I usually never hooked it up.

Hi… first time poster, long time viewer, that said….

To all those who complain that they didn’t know what they were doing when trying to hook it up, it is called COMEDY! How fun would it be to watch them do it right? BORING!! It’s more fun to see they ACT dumb, showing us how MANY AVERAGE PEOPLE might react to things such as the Voctormaxx resume, the squid cables and where to plug them in, etc.

So lighten up, I’d bet the farm(if I had one) that these guys knew EXACTLY how to hook up the Victormaxx well before they came up with some base ideas for what they wanted to say in the video and how they wanted to react to “first” seeing it and dealing with it.

Thank you James and Friends(Mike and MOST the rest) for always making me laugh! Can’t wait for the movie, btw my son really wants me to buy him The Nerd plushie as well as the Shit Pickle(he is age ten)!

I had this as a kid and remember it being very mediocre on the SNES. It was moderately entertaining for games like StarFox or games with a first person view, but I didn’t use it all that much because I’d rather play the game without it.

I think you need a different connector for the SNES. Also IIRC, the shirt clip connected to the helmet and would transmit up/down commands to the game.

i haven’t watched the video yet, but i had that thing…no joke. my parents got it for me off of the t.v., as it didn’t sell in stores. all it was was a tiny screen, and it would let you move characters left and right by turning your head. it didn’t work well, so my parents returned it and i got an activator or whatever, and that thing sucked ass too.

The round plug with the pins is the RGB cable for the Genesis 1

it also works better with HD TV’s

  • Shadowtheman

    February 16, 2012 at 5:56 am

On the bottem of a snes. Nope thats were the stellaview would go. Believe it or not but it made the snes on line via a satalite network. They would use radio broadcasts to send a scrambled signal to the Stellaview witch would than decode and make a simple game. Preinternet internet.

As for this silly thing called the Victermax. I did some digging. It turns out the Victermax was made by Stuntmaster Vr company. It was intended for the pc but was then redone to do snes and sega. The cords that James and MIke had were the Sega adapters, not the Snes ones. Go fig sold separately.

Heres a kicker. The man who runs the compeny. The “person” there talking about exists and he still has a compeny and a websight.

http://frerichs.net/index.html This guy shouldn’t make games.

  • choukogara

    February 16, 2012 at 6:04 am

Guys I know it has no instructions but you completely hooked it up wrong. The stick clamps onto your shirt because it’s supposed to turn the metal post that it attaches back and forth. As you turn your head it turns the post. That then does the left and right D-pad, but yours was clearly broken. And you don’t plug that 9pin plug into the back of the genesis, it’s called a pass-through. You hook up the male side to the controller port and you plug the genesis controller into the female cable. That is how it is able to have access to your left and right D-pad. I hope this clears things up.

    • Devil_Rising

      February 17, 2012 at 3:14 am

@choukogara I think the bigger point here is “Who gives a shit because it’s a completely worthless product that sucks ass.” The video was for fun, a joke. I really don’t get why some people are taking it so seriously like “NO GUYS, IT’S REALLY AWESOME, YOU JUST DID IT WRONG!!” lol

Ah, the good’ol Victormaxx, I had one of these as a kid. The resolution was terrible, reading text on the thing was fairly impossible and playing sonic the hedgehog on it or super mario world. The tiny LCD updated so slowly that you got a ghosting or blurring effect to all the motion. I eventualy took it apart and took out the two magnifiers that enlarged the tiny LCD’s image and tried to make some terrible 3D effect and adapted to work with my VCR for private TV viewing while in bed as the headset also had speakers in it. I think I still have the manual for it around here somewhere as it did actually come with a manual, though it was mostly for setting the dip switched on the bottom.

  • Dave423

    February 16, 2012 at 11:31 am

Genesis sucks thats no way to show off the awesome power of the Victor Max

As already mentioned by others there was another “squid cable bundle” for the SNES.

The private video shop of yesteryear used to rent those head sets. I loved it, Mario KArt, and Starfox rule on that thing. Dude your playing contra on something that is ment for flight, and racing simulator type games. DUH!!!! Even the tank game on SNES M1Abrams? (been a long time) was cool on it.

The Head Tracking system (stick with the clip that attaches just like in the picture) was neat when you got it to work but in the end it made your neck tired, and it would become uncalibrated and would end up being annoying.

Ive Been landing on the topgun carrier since the games launch.

NES Master I can beat ET atari on hard thats with the FBI and the CIA agent.

ET on atari is my favorite game of all time. I think I got lucky on my first play out of the box and won thats why I went on to annhiliate it.

      February 16, 2012 at 12:38 pm

@pogopopex4 graphicaly, generic. awful colors awful graphics. only good thing about Genesis are Luna, and Shining Force, Might and Magic rpgs. Genesis is so Generic yuck. sNES is 16bit graphics king, of course it came out second so they had an advantage So NintenDoes what Sega can’t.

      • pogopopex4

        February 16, 2012 at 12:43 pm

@Dave423 genesis is inferior to snes yeah but that doesnt make it a bad console. it had some pretty great side scrollers and beat em ups too.

      • Dave423

        February 16, 2012 at 12:59 pm

@pogopopex4 When I used the Victor MAx it was new from the rental shop and I hooked it up to an SNES, and I played StarFox, and the FX racer games, FZero, Super Mario Cart, and any other first person SNES game i could get my hands on. I will admit I never tried the Victor MAx on a Genesis, I would of played AirWolf and some other First Person Simulator type games. But from hearing James say it looks like a gamegear. Well I blame that on the Sega Genesis lousy graphics. the SNES looked good on it. Course we didnt have 1080P or even Svideo then. The graphics quality on SNES was exceptional especialy on a small screen. I remember I would play 16bit consoles on a smaller screen to keep the dots small and make it look great. the Sega Dots are so big even the tiny screens of the Victor Max still made it look terrible.

      • Dave423

        February 16, 2012 at 1:03 pm

@pogopopex4 Super nintendo had NCAA basketball which was in 3d and I tried that on the Victor Max as well. All fun, Infact the left right head tracking on ncaa basketball was really cool.

    • tFighterPilot

      February 16, 2012 at 2:22 pm

@pogopopex4 Genesis had a lot of awesome games, like Sonic, Golden Axe, Earthworm Jim and so much more. What did SNES have? Fucking Mario?

      • Dave423

        February 16, 2012 at 2:55 pm

        @tFighterPilot

Yah but, those games are 2d side scrollers, This is a VR headset its used on the FPS of those days First Person Simulators. Star Fox, FZero, Mario Kart, RAcer FX, Super BAttle Tank 2, NCAA basketball (was a First person basketball simulator)

Someone even said that they recognized the master system video plug, Hence the nerds genesis games looked like a gamegear. I guess its not a nerd video cause a real nerd would know what the mega system/gamegear video out plug looks like.

Victor Max should of been for SNES only and this would of never happened because the nerd would of had the SNES wires and no megagenesis wires.

      • Devil_Rising

        February 17, 2012 at 3:12 am

@tFighterPilot @pogopopex4 Dude, I agree with you that Genesis had a lot of good games like, as you say, Sonic, Golden Axe. Streets of Rage, etc. But for one thing, Earthworm Jim was a multiconsole game, and it’s arguably better on SNES. For another, “What did SNES have? Fucking Mario?” is a pretty god awful question to ask.You might not personally like Mario games or something, but I don’t think most people are going to count having “Fucking Mario”, especially classic 2D Mario, as “Oh man, what a shitty selection”. Beyond just Super Mario World, which was a brilliant game, the SNES had the Donkey Kong Country series, Super Castlevania IV, Super Metroid, the Actraiser games, the Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, the Mega Man X series, Killer Instinct, superior ports of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Illusion of Gaia, Star Fox, F-Zero, Contra 3, the Final Fight series, etc. etc. etc. etc.Point being, Genesis had some great games. But I really don’t think anyone has a case to try and say the SNES DIDN’T also have a lot of great games. If you like the Genesis better because that’s what you grew up with, great. But don’t feed trolling with more trolling.

I have a question about James moving to California: when he moved, did he take EVERYTHING to live there permanently, including everything we see in this video? Or are they moving back to their home when they are done fliming?

    • Devil_Rising

      February 17, 2012 at 3:04 am

@DerekShort I’m gonna wager that that house is something he and his wife got together when they married. So I seriously doubt they’re gonna not move back to it. They’re only out in Cali for 5-6 months or so. And in the first “Nerd Log” he clearly showed that he was leaving “Nerd Central”, IE everything you see in that video, in Mike’s hands to take care of while he’s gone.I’m guessing that he probably already filmed movies scenes that might involve that basement before he left, or he’ll finish filming those parts when he gets back. It’s a road trip movie, so I kind of doubt he’d spend a WHOLE lot of time in the “Nerd Basement” anyway.

      • mimmo0152

        February 18, 2012 at 11:54 am

        @Devil_Rising @DerekShort

In one of his “nerd logs” – James mentioned that California is temporary. The boxes behind him in that video was his stuff that he was taking with him for filming purposes. Also he mentioned that Mike was “holding down the fort until he gets back”. He went to California for the simple reason of not flying actors back and forth, locations, studios, etc. It was more cost effective for him to move temporarily to Cali. I believe the video he mentioned all of this was “Nerd log – road Trip” video. Im pretty sure he will be coming back home.

Reminds me so much of all the rage VR crap that came out of the mid 90′s esp after one of my favorite movies of all time Lawnmower Man was released. I’ve always wanted to get a HMD w/ 360 degree head tracking for PC but they cost huge amounts of money and hardly anyone makes software errr games compatible w/ them. HMDs for consumers have needlessly been nothing more than eye mounted TVs since their creation b/c of SHIT like this. Nice VID guys GOOD LUCK w/ the feature film James! P.S. Will Kyle Justin’s AVGN be used in the movie??? Hope SO!

PS – The purpose of the stick that clips to your shirt is for turning in games that actually are 3D such as Doom. If you rotate your head with the stick in, it turns that knob, and that’s the left and right on the d-pad. Sorry if that was already mentioned.

“To all those who complain that they didn’t know what they were doing when trying to hook it up, it is called COMEDY!

Oh my god, that’s one of the items I donated!! I’m so excited to see it get some use! It is missing the SNES cable, though. The person I originally got it from never had that cable. When I used it, the screen actually did work pretty well, but holy crap was the headset heavy. It made my neck so tired!!

Glad to see James and Mike using it here on the website!! It’s made the donation that much more worth it!!

    February 20, 2012 at 3:05 pm

I bought one of these monstrosities from a Fingerhut catalog for around $100. I had visions of hooking it up to a VCR and watching Lawnmower Man, and living in “the future.” As soon as I got it hooked up and saw how horrible the screen was, I was ready to throw it back in the box and get a refund.

BTW, the rod that clips to your shirt connects to a rocker switch on the device, which mimics the left and right d-pad controls. It really was trying to be a virtual reality display because turning your head was supposed to shift your perspective in the game! I’m glad I didn’t have any FPSes to try this thing out with, as I don’t think they would have refunded my money if I shipped it back covered in puke.

I’m kind of disappointed he didn’t do this one in character as the Nerd. I understand he’s working on the movie, but surely if he has time to make this video, he has time to dress up in a white shirt and swear a lot.

    • faustSketcher

      February 21, 2012 at 12:47 pm

      @captainlhurgoyf

do you really think it’s that simple? get a shirt and start cursing? lol you probably haven’t even watched the video where he showed the LARGE amount of work that is required to make a nerd video. preparing the games, script, video editing, etc… do you think it’s only cursing and fun? lol it’s a ton of work

      • captainlhurgoyf

        February 21, 2012 at 2:01 pm

        @faustSketcher @captainlhurgoyf

Well, I was being a bit simplistic there. But I was just saying that I wouldn’t think it would be too hard to do this as a proper Nerd episode. Especially if it was a relatively simple one like the first few episodes.

  • Ragnar0kZ3r0

    February 21, 2012 at 7:48 pm

This thing is the epitome of why that 90′s virtual reality fad was an Mega-Ultimate Super-Giga-FAIL. While it was during my childhood, even I was too smart to even waste my time or my folks money asking for it. I’d rather have gotten more NES/SNES games than waste time and money to hook this PoS up. My early 90′s T.V. serves me well even to this day, why would anyone want to strap this virtual tech turd to their head is beyond me. Nice to see something while the AVGN movie is still in progress.

  • February 21, 2012 at 10:02 pm

What a massive load of donkey shit.

  • TorErik

    February 22, 2012 at 2:36 pm

Before we had this shit and Virtual Boy. Today we have Nintendo 3DS.

    • Ragnar0kZ3r0

      February 23, 2012 at 2:06 am

@TorErik I own a 3DS and use it a lot, I will admit 3D is kinda gimmicky but, looking past that part it is actually a solid hand held system with improved capabilities from the older DS models. The Victormaxx and Virtual Boy however, completely sucked.

      • DarioSilva

        February 27, 2012 at 4:31 pm

@Ragnar0kZ3r0 Seeing Dead or Alive dimensions in 3D makes you realize how beneficial it can be for focusing on your characters in say… a fighting game. Everything becomes clearer… but the problem with 3D is that its in its infancy, and fast movements do not track well at all. Its a shame really. Oh, that and the 3DS d-pad, which is utter shit.

    • Kaleidoscopic God

      February 27, 2012 at 12:26 am

@TorErik I agree with Ragnar0kZ3r0; the 3DS is a solid system. Apart from the 3D function — which, while gimmicky, WORKS AS IT SHOULD — you have a technically sufficient little handheld (much more so than the top-selling DS, but granted it should be after the years that has passed). Just wait awhile and you’ll see that the system will, not unlike the DS, be ridden with must plays.

    • Kaleidoscopic God

      February 27, 2012 at 12:38 am

@TorErik Ah, I watched the video. I get what you’re saying more now. The key is “hurts the eyes”. I never had a problem with the 3D on the 3DS, though. Not so that it hurts. At most I’ve had to close my eyes for a second before resuming because an object came “closer” to the screen and made my eyes cross.

  • CombatVolcano

    February 23, 2012 at 6:59 pm

The pole is how it detects when you turn your head. I can’t believe, I really literally can’t believe, that James can edit video and hook up component splitters for all that crap but he can’t figure out how to hook that thing up which is actually quite easy given the VCR’s and all that other crap you have! Love AVGN but this is a fail!

  • CombatVolcano

    February 23, 2012 at 7:06 pm

The pole is how it tells when you move your head! The controller style input to the back of the Genesis is the input from that control mechanism.

Too bad it looks so shitty – not sure what you could expect from a cheap LCD display manufactured that long ago. The ‘real’ virtual headsets used in arcades at the $10 games back then (that were more like lawnmower man and less like a hobo wearing a garbage bag) cost five to ten thousand dollars each. I can’t imagine the retail for this thing was more than a few hundred.

  • khiameru

    February 24, 2012 at 1:31 am

this is about the comments about the 3ds hurting peoples eyes. i read somewhere that if 3d hurts your eyes you might have eye problems. because the way the current glasses free 3d makes the 3d image is the same way we see depth naturally by giving each eye a slightly different angle of the same thing then the brain combines those to images to make us see depth. the reason some peoples eyes hurt is because there so used to seeing things like video games in 2d that it becomes and the change to 3d makes there eyes freak out.

Never heard of Virtual Reality Stuntmaster before. This is one of the most fail accessories ever made, and it can be used for Sega Genesis and SNES. It was missing the manual and missing the connector for the SNES. That was lame. Nothing can beat the Ill fated Virtual Boy. It was made a company called Victormax, the company that made failed gaming accessories. That lasted until 1995 when Victormax went out of business.

  • Carlos Cardona

I got one of these for christmas back in 1994. I was quite surprised to see a video about this, as all these years I haven’t known a single person besides myself that owned or even heard of one of these. I was 11 and for the first minute after opening that gift, I was actually naiive enough to think it would convert my Sega games to a true 3D virtual reality experience, like in the 1992 movie The Lawnmower Man. *covers face*

The stick attachment was a motion sensor to replace the left and right controls so that you would move side to side with the turn of your head instead. It was so weird, playing Sonic the Hedgehog and making him run by turning my head constantly. And it was uncomfortable as hell, it felt so damn heavy in front and hurt my nose real bad. I actually had to play it while lying on my back on my bed just to make it more bearable. I still have this packed away somewhere and played it for just maybe 2 weeks after I got it. I hid my dissapointment as much as I could because I just felt really bad that my dad actually spent money on this thing intending it to be the ultimate super awesome christmas gift or whatever.

So much involved just to hook that clunky piece of garbage up. I can only imagine all the frustrated parents trying to hook that thing up for impatient kids on Christmas morning.

I think I remember reading about this in a magazine. I’m glad that gimmicky accessories never really interested me. Most of them are such a waste of money.

that reminds me of a thing i saw in an ad years ago: it was like an amor-vest, which rumbles when u got hit. it uses the audio-out and reacts to the sound, so the ad told me it will work with nearly every console. did some1 know or have this vest ? dose it work? i guess its maid for children so it will be to small…
plz tell me if u know somthing about this… thx

did you buy this stuntmaster used? maybe there’s supposed to be a second “squid” with output cables for a super nintendo that the original seller forgot to pack in there. it seems like there has to be a reason for that vga connector and it would make sense if there was another piece

Hah. It took 2 nerd with an unlimited supply of old video game consoles to finally get the virtual reality stuntmaster to work. Then it blew balls.

hahaha this is a really funny episode! What a junk of shit that stuntmaster seems to be! And Americas electric adapter connection must be the worst ever created. The North Euro one is so extremely superior.

It does work with the SNES, but you must be missing to cables to it because my cousin had this and remember playing on it while grounded in my room with no TV when I wasn’t supposed to be playing any video games. It wasn’t a very good experience either and it probably made the resolution lower. Also, it was really only good for when you didn’t have a TV to play on if your nose could stand the weight and your eyes the strain of playing on it. Which reminds me of when there were commercials on TV about computer eye strain, which I definitely believe I could relate to with all the pixilated graphics back in the days of DOOM for SNES and you may relate to that silly illness they came up with from playing on this device that sounds as stupid as restless leg syndrome.
