Thanks for all your help! The AVGN Movie fundraiser ends on February 2nd, so it’s the last chance to donate and it’s the last time you’ll have to hear me talk about it.
James you look a little rough, not like rough as in unshaven but rough like you hasn’t been sleeping or your stressed beyond belief so just take a step back and try to relax RELAX. your fans love what you do and im sure this will be no exception so try not to kill yourself in the process.
James, you should look into consulting with an accountant before claiming that money as income, because there may be a waiver to make that money go on this years taxes instead of last years and much of that would be deducted as a cost for making the movie. Im not an expert on it but its worth looking into. Yes if it was us just giving you money for now reason then it would have to be claimed, but its going to be used up for a purpose so their might be some exemptions so it can be deducted.
The real money that should be taxed comes from the revenue generated by the movie. At least thats what my understanding is.
Please cut as little as possible from the movie, I am sure a rich millionaire is waiting until the last day to donate, or at least movie sales will be high to make up any extra costs. I’d hate for this to go so far only to hear the finished product isn’t 100% of what was originally planned.
Whoa, now that I think about it, a previous update video said this movie would actually be a ‘road trip’ of some sort… perhaps like It’s a mad mad mad mad world, which happens to be James’ favorite movie… Brilliant idea, which makes hearing about possible cuts to the movie even worse (even mad world itself had various cuts for other reasons).
I really wanted to buy a signed autograph from you, maybe I can round up some extra cash before then. I actually feel guilty for not having done anything already.
I normally never donate because yea most people that ask for money are e-beggars. You on the other hand you can see you want this movie and yea fuck You deserve it! Make a real fucking movie!
I definitely know what you mean about asking for money James, but I’m sure everyone who donated will agree that we’re proud to have helped out on your biggest project to date. I hope you don’t have to cut too much from your original plan, maybe once the movie is made you can post a copy of the original script so we can all compare! Thanks for all your hard work, and best of luck!
We’re all glad you gave you as much as we did and even if a few cuts do have to be made, this will certainly be an amazing movie! Keep up the good work James!
For me, it’s much better to watch movie with original idea, and based by some guy who have his own way to do so, than watch highly overrated Hooliwood movie, which mostly work as advertising and programing for people. Thanks, keep it up

And by the way so much entertainment of old good childhood days, witch i thought was forgotten.
I wonder how much game footage there would be…anyways, I wish you the best! Just keep us in touch, I’m very curious about this movie process. You’re the reason I didn’t give up with filmmaking. Thanks man for everything !
Listen James,Sleeping forget about it! Worrying about how your site is going.. forget about it! what others think of you and what your doing.. Just forget about it! You have a once in a lifetime chance to prove that you can rise above everyone and be damn succesfull! You already are succesfull but you can be more succesfull with this movie! forget about everything and focus 100% on this 1 movie! because if you succedd with this you can make more movies, be more succesfull you see what im saying? Dont worry about anything and focus on bieng succesfull on this man.. Were all excited and best of luck
Jim, keep living your dream, we will support you no matter what, you’re awesome and almost made me cry with your words in this video. Regards from Mexico!
Don’t overwork yourself. Even if you buy beer for the money I donated and don’t deliver, you are worth it. I hope you only feel positive stress trying to get the movie done and not negative stress (like press for getting everything super perfect because we, the fans, donated >200K). The force will be with you….always!
This suggestion might come a bit too late for this project but why don’t you do what the comedy troupe Picnicface did to fund their first indie feature film Roller Town?
Dude, you’re no beggar. You said it yourself: we, the fans, have enjoyed your (and Mike’s) video’s for years now. It was time for us to do something back. We don’t HAVE to, we WANT to!
@DutchDodger You’re right. He isn’t. He’s given us all a LOT of great entertainment and great memories, at HIS expense, for years. But sadly, when this fundraiser first started, and even before that, when he was asking for donations on Cinemassacre.com, there were the inevitable Conservatards who came out of the woodwork saying shit like “Geez James, begging for money on the internet, how low can you get?” Stupid shit like that. The same people who are demanding and tell James “Dude, review such and such a game!”, are some of the same idiots who also wouldn’t pay a dime to help James do so. They expect to receive, but don’t care about giving of themselves. It seems to be an American symptom. But regardless, I’m glad there were more TRUE fans out there that were willing to donate, or even at least WOULD have if they could afford it. I’m sure those people will still buy the movie on DVD when it comes out. It’s better to have this thing totally fan funded, so James can make the AVGN movie we all deserve, and the film that he’s capable of creating, instead of having major studio backing, and then they wind up legally OWNING AVGN. No thanks. He’ll have to deal with that when he makes other films. The way THIS one is working out though, is the only way it could work, and still be great.
I wish I wasn’t so broke right now, I would donate again to finally get that signed picture! But oh well, at least I was able to give what I could. Good luck on your movie and don’t overwork yourself! Remember to have fun
James hit the nail on the head (or who ever wrote to him). We’ve been watching AVGN and other classics on cinemassacre for free for years! Anything the fans can do, we’re 100% behind you!!
I know this will be the best money I’ve ever spent without seeing a single second of film. It took a noticeable chunk from my bank account but James deserves it for years of free entertainment
@Kyle: “It took a noticeable chunk from my bank account but James deserves it for years of free entertainment ” Meh, he gets paid for his videos. He doesn’t do anything for free since he got “famous”
I’ve seen the harsh e-beggar comments, especially around youtube and all I can say is, don’t listen to them. You’ve put so many hours of free entertainment on the internet. Be proud about it!
You keep following your dream, man. You are honestly one of my inspirations for following one’s dreams. I only wish I knew about this fundraiser before…I’ll see what I can do.
James made the AVGN series with a low budget, and it’s awesome, so if James make a film with more money it will be more than awesome, good luck James and thanks for everything
I’m so proud to have lent a hand for this movie. And seriously good luck with all that work. Through the years you have done a very good work as the nerd, or even as movie reviewers. I like all of your works, and I’m looking forward to other vlog like this and, of course, the movie itself ^_^
Yeah, I agree, you shouldn’t feel bad about asking for money. You obviously really appreciate it and you’re even giving thank you gifts for the donations, and obviously we appreciate you enough to donate. As a student studying for a Film and Video degree, I’ve started planning my senior project and you have really inspired me, your passion, your good attitude, your interesting insights and advice, it encourages me to keep going and say “this is not easy, but I can do it!” So keep up the great work and I wish you the best of luck in achieving your dream! (also, you looked a little tired; don’t overwork yourself, sacrificing sleep or too much of your sanity isn’t worth it, you won’t be able to work as effectively when you’re tired anyway)
Basically, I would like to buy the Angry Nerd Dvd (whole of them) but in my place, I cant find a bank to make paypal account, later when you guys accept Visa, dont have Macau (my place) to choose the destination ==…
Anyway, at least I can donate a bit to pay u a back for all the work that u done for us (fans) all these years (from nintendo to video game nerd)… Sincerely thanks James!
Way to go, James! Good luck in your budget. I believe if you had gone with a real studio, they’d control it, and probably put a lock on your other videos for greedy fingers. And of course you’d probably barely see any of that money because it all goes to the “Anti-Piracy Police” or something.
And sure is funny how real studios spend 200 million and it doesn’t always have a good story, where as a small thing with friends ends up being better. Of course, I suppose most of that money goes to how many blocks you can demolish in 10 seconds, because that’s what todays movies are all about! Visuals! Story? Read a book. :p
Even if you went and spent that whole 250k on beer for your self, as long as you filmed it the aftermath there would be no hard feelings! Love you James.
you wanted 75k you got over 200k. if i was you i would be loling all the way to the bank. hahaha. buy yourself a new car on us. and have a nice holiday aswell.
@straposlav Maybe you should watch the video (again) then you would know much he actually has to spend in order to make the movey. And like he said, all the money is used for the movie.
@Olivania lets say minus 20% for tax and minus 10% for indie gogo. from 250k that leaves about 175k so he has 100k more than his original budget. em. and i stick with my original post i think he should by himself a ferrari or something he has earned it.

@straposlav @Olivania Ahh, taxes. Yeah, you see now, he made more than 200k this year, so he’s “rich” according to the OMW fucks.
Goddamn Uncle Sam, keep your mitts off the Nerd’s money!

lol over 200k i would be laughing all the way to the bank. you should buy a new car on us.
Damn, i bet you get like 200k -220k after taxes and cuts from indigogo out of this. This is a shit load of money wich went in this movie. I mean we are talking about a budget nearly equal to The Cube, equal to Mad Max and even more than Night of the living Dead. Its posible to make an outstanding Movie with a shoestring budget, all it needs is an ambitious Director wich James realy is. I realy looking forward to this…
@fratzenjeballer You have to remember one thing. Inflation. You’re talking about this being more than the budget for Night of the Living Dead, yet that was back in the late 60s, so whatever money it was made with, probably equals a LOT more than James has right now. Keep that in mind.
I honestly think that budget constraints can force the creators to be even more creative. James is a creative son of a bitch, and trying to maximize the budget will make him think even more creatively. So if anything, I think it will help the movie get even more charm and passion (which is likely already has plenty of).
It’s just feels like James is a little afraid to use the money into the film. I’m just wondering so what if one location takes up $5,000? Most of the locations are free, and if the film has 80 locations each location has average of 1 minute worth of time on film. If there is no need to set anything beforehand and it’s straight forward filming, I bet it takes a morning or evening to film max, might take an hour even. Which might be cheaper if it’s up to be rented for that short time period.
Thank you James, for everything you’ve done for us fans, and good luck with filming. Don’t ever feel worried or ashamed that some ingrate “fans” make stupid comments about “oh he’s reduced himself to money grubbing”. Guess what, haters? You’re still “money grubbing” even if you’re getting corporate studio backing or private investors, except like James says, then they have control over YOUR work, and can change it if they wish. There is no shame in asking friends/family/fans/whoever for help James, ever. This movie is going to rock, and I just wish I could have given more. Hopefully, between the fundraiser money, and the donations that were already made on this site, you’ll have enough. It would suck for you to have to cut awesome scenes just to stay under budget.
I thought you were about to cry at the start of this clip. I’m sure it’s scary to take on such a big project, but it’s a once in a lifetime thing, so it’s worth it. Maybe you could make a sponsorship deal with Rolling Rock to get more money? Everyone frowns on product placement but at least it’d be nerd-related. Eitherway, best of luck James!
No pressure James, really man, remember to relax…the more you’re at ease the more your genius creativity can shine. I’m sure a huge wad of your fans have no doubts that whatever ends up on the screen will kick ass. Don’t let the fundraiser stress you either, I think a lot of your fans including myself feel they already owed it to you anyway. Considering all this new bullshit you’re coming across, i may go throw in a few more bucks. Good luck man, thanks for the hard work and all that and so forth.
Hey James, I’ve got a suggestion. Why not bring tents and/or travel in caravans if you’re gonna shoot out in the wild? Might save you a lot of travel costs.
Yeah, it’s crazy how much they charge for locations, and you’re in California where they’re used to taking advantage of ridiculously high budget films. Even out here in Missouri, I looked into permit/insurance costs for shooting in a local park, and it would have been $1000+ a day – the feature I was trying to do had a total budget of like $3500, so yeah… No go.
$252,713. Just checked it. I wish I could donate some cash but I’m destitute, but come time when I get money back from my pell grants to go to college I will buy your 5 AVGN DVDs and a t-shirt. And James, if I was you I’d stay indie. I would do all I could to make the best movies you can through donations. Maybe together we will all change the film industry just as Easy Rider did in 1969. : )
No problem on the donation. You know what – you work hard, you’ve given us a lot for free over the years- so it’s a pleasure. Not to mention, you’re not making anyone give money, you’re asking for those who are willing to donate if they would – which is perfectly fine.
I hope everything goes well, and congratulations on the crazy amount you got.
@nerdyguy64 @Keith_C They shot Conan the Barbarian in Bulgaria. I’m talking the crappy new Conan. Renting locations and stuff is apparently cheaper there
Keith_C
February 1, 2012 at 8:58 am
@nerdyguy64 @Keith_C They used to shoot loads of films in Canada before. Rumble in the BRONX is filmed in CANADA. Then Canada got expensive, so they moved to Romania and Bulgaria.

@Keith_C @nerdyguy64 There are many places in the U.S. to film as well that are a hell of a lot cheaper than CA. I agree with that other poster saying the prices there seem set up to be a barrier to indies.

I think the AVGN movie is just going to be the first step.
It is your dream and you are living it… And thanks to your extra work and effort, so are we! One of many reasons so many of these great fans donated. (sadly I did not.)
I donated because it was the least that I could do. It’s not even about money, I just want to support you. You have given so much to us fans. The best thing you can do is the keep doing what you do, because you’re really good at it, James.
January 31, 2012 at 2:52 am
Brilliant, can’t wait for the movie James
January 31, 2012 at 2:56 am
Sounds good… wish i could have donated more… can’t fucking wait for this movie.

James you look a little rough, not like rough as in unshaven but rough like you hasn’t been sleeping or your stressed beyond belief so just take a step back and try to relax RELAX. your fans love what you do and im sure this will be no exception so try not to kill yourself in the process.
January 31, 2012 at 3:48 am
James, you should look into consulting with an accountant before claiming that money as income, because there may be a waiver to make that money go on this years taxes instead of last years and much of that would be deducted as a cost for making the movie. Im not an expert on it but its worth looking into. Yes if it was us just giving you money for now reason then it would have to be claimed, but its going to be used up for a purpose so their might be some exemptions so it can be deducted.
The real money that should be taxed comes from the revenue generated by the movie. At least thats what my understanding is.

James will be the next James Cameron/ Steven Spielberg/ Stanley Kubrick
mark my words…
January 31, 2012 at 5:47 am
I have the same problem about asking for money, hell even getting paid always feels awkward at first.
That said, yeah. I’d say you’re being repaid for all the entertainment you’ve given us over the years. You’ve earned it.

Anyways, I once again wish you well on this trek.
/Edward

I can’t wait James to see the finished work! Good luck in the production, and I hope everything goes well!
January 31, 2012 at 12:15 pm
BEER CONFMIRED! AWWWW YEAAAHHHH! LOL
January 31, 2012 at 4:02 pm
@nerdlover99 It wouldn’t be an AVGN movie without Rolling Rock somewhere.
January 31, 2012 at 1:02 pm
Even if you went and spent that whole 250k on beer for your self, as long as you filmed it the aftermath there would be no hard feelings! Love you James.
January 31, 2012 at 1:12 pm
you wanted 75k you got over 200k. if i was you i would be loling all the way to the bank. hahaha. buy yourself a new car on us. and have a nice holiday aswell.
January 31, 2012 at 7:17 pm
@straposlav Maybe you should watch the video (again) then you would know much he actually has to spend in order to make the movey. And like he said, all the money is used for the movie.
January 31, 2012 at 7:24 pm
@Olivania lets say minus 20% for tax and minus 10% for indie gogo. from 250k that leaves about 175k so he has 100k more than his original budget. em. and i stick with my original post i think he should by himself a ferrari or something he has earned it.
February 1, 2012 at 3:40 am
@straposlav @Olivania Ahh, taxes. Yeah, you see now, he made more than 200k this year, so he’s “rich” according to the OMW fucks.
Goddamn Uncle Sam, keep your mitts off the Nerd’s money!

lol over 200k i would be laughing all the way to the bank. you should buy a new car on us.
January 31, 2012 at 1:24 pm
YES theres beer!! xD
January 31, 2012 at 1:33 pm
Ben Afleck as the nerd…
January 31, 2012 at 1:33 pm
James and crew best of luck to you guy’s!! Hope the Groundhog does bring you guy’s good luck
January 31, 2012 at 1:52 pm
Damn, i bet you get like 200k -220k after taxes and cuts from indigogo out of this. This is a shit load of money wich went in this movie. I mean we are talking about a budget nearly equal to The Cube, equal to Mad Max and even more than Night of the living Dead. Its posible to make an outstanding Movie with a shoestring budget, all it needs is an ambitious Director wich James realy is. I realy looking forward to this…
January 31, 2012 at 2:40 pm
@fratzenjeballer You have to remember one thing. Inflation. You’re talking about this being more than the budget for Night of the Living Dead, yet that was back in the late 60s, so whatever money it was made with, probably equals a LOT more than James has right now. Keep that in mind.
January 31, 2012 at 2:00 pm
damn james, you’re gettin’ this movie too hyped up
but it’s cool
January 31, 2012 at 2:02 pm
I honestly think that budget constraints can force the creators to be even more creative. James is a creative son of a bitch, and trying to maximize the budget will make him think even more creatively. So if anything, I think it will help the movie get even more charm and passion (which is likely already has plenty of).
January 31, 2012 at 2:27 pm
Hopefully this film will be the best £20 I ever spent (and I know a lot of people donated a lot more than I did). Best of luck!
January 31, 2012 at 2:29 pm
Good thing I get paid the 1st of Feb! You’re the best James!
January 31, 2012 at 2:30 pm
It’s just feels like James is a little afraid to use the money into the film. I’m just wondering so what if one location takes up $5,000? Most of the locations are free, and if the film has 80 locations each location has average of 1 minute worth of time on film. If there is no need to set anything beforehand and it’s straight forward filming, I bet it takes a morning or evening to film max, might take an hour even. Which might be cheaper if it’s up to be rented for that short time period.
January 31, 2012 at 2:38 pm
January 31, 2012 at 2:47 pm
Well done everyone, this movie is gonna be awesome! Good luck Nerd!
January 31, 2012 at 3:09 pm
I thought you were about to cry at the start of this clip.
I’m sure it’s scary to take on such a big project, but it’s a once in a lifetime thing, so it’s worth it. Maybe you could make a sponsorship deal with Rolling Rock to get more money? Everyone frowns on product placement but at least it’d be nerd-related. Eitherway, best of luck James!
January 31, 2012 at 3:14 pm
my mom won´t let me contribute and i´m fucking pissed but I´ll force her into doing it!!
January 31, 2012 at 3:16 pm
You deserve EVERY SINGLE penny you got. I love you
January 31, 2012 at 3:34 pm
No pressure James, really man, remember to relax…the more you’re at ease the more your genius creativity can shine. I’m sure a huge wad of your fans have no doubts that whatever ends up on the screen will kick ass. Don’t let the fundraiser stress you either, I think a lot of your fans including myself feel they already owed it to you anyway. Considering all this new bullshit you’re coming across, i may go throw in a few more bucks. Good luck man, thanks for the hard work and all that and so forth.
January 31, 2012 at 3:35 pm
When the film comes out anyone know how much it will be, and whether it will be released in the uk. Thanks
January 31, 2012 at 3:52 pm
Hey James, I’ve got a suggestion. Why not bring tents and/or travel in caravans if you’re gonna shoot out in the wild? Might save you a lot of travel costs.
January 31, 2012 at 4:04 pm
Ben Affleck as the Nerd? No!
January 31, 2012 at 4:18 pm
Yeah, it’s crazy how much they charge for locations, and you’re in California where they’re used to taking advantage of ridiculously high budget films. Even out here in Missouri, I looked into permit/insurance costs for shooting in a local park, and it would have been $1000+ a day – the feature I was trying to do had a total budget of like $3500, so yeah… No go.
Best of luck James.
January 31, 2012 at 4:18 pm
My name on special thanks in the credits? Sounds like a nice deal! Some money on the way!!
January 31, 2012 at 4:30 pm
Long live AVGN!!
January 31, 2012 at 4:30 pm
He also has to eat and pay bills like the rest of life aint free
January 31, 2012 at 4:30 pm
This movie is going to rule the next decade! I gave him 200 bucks with no fucking hesitation as soon as I heard about his found raising campaign
January 31, 2012 at 4:30 pm
AVGN the movie!! (^^)/
January 31, 2012 at 4:30 pm
Cant wait to see this movie!
January 31, 2012 at 4:34 pm
I donated again. There goes the last of my Christmas money.
January 31, 2012 at 4:43 pm
January 31, 2012 at 5:37 pm
No problem on the donation. You know what – you work hard, you’ve given us a lot for free over the years- so it’s a pleasure. Not to mention, you’re not making anyone give money, you’re asking for those who are willing to donate if they would – which is perfectly fine.
I hope everything goes well, and congratulations on the crazy amount you got.
January 31, 2012 at 5:42 pm
I keep saying it, too, but PLEASE, PLEASE document the making of this movie as a DVD extra.
January 31, 2012 at 5:46 pm
No wonder they’re shooting films in Bulgaria.
January 31, 2012 at 6:17 pm
@Keith_C What?!?! *raises eyebrow*
January 31, 2012 at 9:00 pm
@nerdyguy64 @Keith_C
January 31, 2012 at 9:03 pm
@nerdyguy64 @Keith_C They shot Conan the Barbarian in Bulgaria. I’m talking the crappy new Conan. Renting locations and stuff is apparently cheaper there
February 1, 2012 at 8:58 am
@nerdyguy64 @Keith_C They used to shoot loads of films in Canada before. Rumble in the BRONX is filmed in CANADA. Then Canada got expensive, so they moved to Romania and Bulgaria.
February 1, 2012 at 10:48 am
@Keith_C @nerdyguy64 There are many places in the U.S. to film as well that are a hell of a lot cheaper than CA. I agree with that other poster saying the prices there seem set up to be a barrier to indies.
January 31, 2012 at 5:47 pm
I think the AVGN movie is just going to be the first step.
January 31, 2012 at 5:51 pm
It was no problem for me to donate because thanks to Cinemassacre I cut my cable bill in half!. Best of luck James!
February 1, 2012 at 12:09 pm
@KeithEllwood Is that the final screen of Silver Surfer??? Mother of God!!!
January 31, 2012 at 6:06 pm
I’m going to donate tonight and send you an e-mail expressing my appreciation for all you’ve done and are doing for us, the fans.
January 31, 2012 at 6:08 pm
It is your dream and you are living it… And thanks to your extra work and effort, so are we! One of many reasons so many of these great fans donated. (sadly I did not.)
January 31, 2012 at 6:16 pm
I donated because it was the least that I could do. It’s not even about money, I just want to support you. You have given so much to us fans. The best thing you can do is the keep doing what you do, because you’re really good at it, James.
January 31, 2012 at 6:46 pm
if i donate now do i still get autographed poster?
January 31, 2012 at 7:14 pm
I donated because I want to see this happen, whether it’s awesome or sucks balls.
An entirely fan-funded movie (or mostly fan-funded) is rare, so that’s something I’d like to see.
I just hope the entire movie isn’t just you drinking beer… LOL
