Thanks for all your help! The AVGN Movie fundraiser ends on February 2nd, so it’s the last chance to donate and it’s the last time you’ll have to hear me talk about it.

    James you look a little rough, not like rough as in unshaven but rough like you hasn’t been sleeping or your stressed beyond belief so just take a step back and try to relax RELAX. your fans love what you do and im sure this will be no exception so try not to kill yourself in the process.

    James, you should look into consulting with an accountant before claiming that money as income, because there may be a waiver to make that money go on this years taxes instead of last years and much of that would be deducted as a cost for making the movie. Im not an expert on it but its worth looking into. Yes if it was us just giving you money for now reason then it would have to be claimed, but its going to be used up for a purpose so their might be some exemptions so it can be deducted.

    The real money that should be taxed comes from the revenue generated by the movie. At least thats what my understanding is.

    Please cut as little as possible from the movie, I am sure a rich millionaire is waiting until the last day to donate, or at least movie sales will be high to make up any extra costs. I’d hate for this to go so far only to hear the finished product isn’t 100% of what was originally planned.

    Whoa, now that I think about it, a previous update video said this movie would actually be a ‘road trip’ of some sort… perhaps like It’s a mad mad mad mad world, which happens to be James’ favorite movie… Brilliant idea, which makes hearing about possible cuts to the movie even worse (even mad world itself had various cuts for other reasons).

    I have the same problem about asking for money, hell even getting paid always feels awkward at first.

    That said, yeah. I’d say you’re being repaid for all the entertainment you’ve given us over the years. You’ve earned it.

    I definitely know what you mean about asking for money James, but I’m sure everyone who donated will agree that we’re proud to have helped out on your biggest project to date. I hope you don’t have to cut too much from your original plan, maybe once the movie is made you can post a copy of the original script so we can all compare!     For me, it’s much better to watch movie with original idea, and based by some guy who have his own way to do so, than watch highly overrated Hooliwood movie, which mostly work as advertising and programing for people. Thanks, keep it up :)

    Don’t overwork yourself. Even if you buy beer for the money I donated and don’t deliver, you are worth it. I hope you only feel positive stress trying to get the movie done and not negative stress (like press for getting everything super perfect because we, the fans, donated >200K).       @DutchDodger You’re right. He isn’t. He’s given us all a LOT of great entertainment and great memories, at HIS expense, for years. But sadly, when this fundraiser first started, and even before that, when he was asking for donations on Cinemassacre.com, there were the inevitable Conservatards who came out of the woodwork saying shit like “Geez James, begging for money on the internet, how low can you get?” Stupid shit like that. The same people who are demanding and tell James “Dude, review such and such a game!”, are some of the same idiots who also wouldn’t pay a dime to help James do so. They expect to receive, but don’t care about giving of themselves. It seems to be an American symptom. But regardless, I’m glad there were more TRUE fans out there that were willing to donate, or even at least WOULD have if they could afford it. I’m sure those people will still buy the movie on DVD when it comes out. It’s better to have this thing totally fan funded, so James can make the AVGN movie we all deserve, and the film that he’s capable of creating, instead of having major studio backing, and then they wind up legally OWNING AVGN. No thanks. He’ll have to deal with that when he makes other films. The way THIS one is working out though, is the only way it could work, and still be great.

You obviously really appreciate it and you’re even giving thank you gifts for the donations, and obviously we appreciate you enough to donate. As a student studying for a Film and Video degree, I’ve started planning my senior project and you have really inspired me, your passion, your good attitude, your interesting insights and advice, it encourages me to keep going and say “this is not easy, but I can do it!” So keep up the great work and I wish you the best of luck in achieving your dream! (also, you looked a little tired; don’t overwork yourself, sacrificing sleep or too much of your sanity isn’t worth it, you won’t be able to work as effectively when you’re tired anyway)

    Way to go, James! Good luck in your budget. I believe if you had gone with a real studio, they’d control it, and probably put a lock on your other videos for greedy fingers. And of course you’d probably barely see any of that money because it all goes to the “Anti-Piracy Police” or something.

    And sure is funny how real studios spend 200 million and it doesn’t always have a good story, where as a small thing with friends ends up being better. Of course, I suppose most of that money goes to how many blocks you can demolish in 10 seconds, because that’s what todays movies are all about! Visuals! Story? Read a book. :p

    Anyways, I once again wish you well on this trek.

    Damn, i bet you get like 200k -220k after taxes and cuts from indigogo out of this. This is a shit load of money wich went in this movie. I mean we are talking about a budget nearly equal to The Cube, equal to Mad Max and even more than Night of the living Dead. Its posible to make an outstanding Movie with a shoestring budget, all it needs is an ambitious Director wich James realy is. I realy looking forward to this…

      @fratzenjeballer You have to remember one thing. Inflation. You’re talking about this being more than the budget for Night of the Living Dead, yet that was back in the late 60s, so whatever money it was made with, probably equals a LOT more than James has right now. Keep that in mind.

    I honestly think that budget constraints can force the creators to be even more creative. James is a creative son of a bitch, and trying to maximize the budget will make him think even more creatively. So if anything, I think it will help the movie get even more charm and passion (which is likely already has plenty of).

    It’s just feels like James is a little afraid to use the money into the film. I’m just wondering so what if one location takes up $5,000? Most of the locations are free, and if the film has 80 locations each location has average of 1 minute worth of time on film. If there is no need to set anything beforehand and it’s straight forward filming, I bet it takes a morning or evening to film max, might take an hour even. Which might be cheaper if it’s up to be rented for that short time period.

Don’t ever feel worried or ashamed that some ingrate “fans” make stupid comments about “oh he’s reduced himself to money grubbing”. Guess what, haters? You’re still “money grubbing” even if you’re getting corporate studio backing or private investors, except like James says, then they have control over YOUR work, and can change it if they wish. There is no shame in asking friends/family/fans/whoever for help James, ever. This movie is going to rock, and I just wish I could have given more. Hopefully, between the fundraiser money, and the donations that were already made on this site, you’ll have enough. It would suck for you to have to cut awesome scenes just to stay under budget.

    Yeah, it’s crazy how much they charge for locations, and you’re in California where they’re used to taking advantage of ridiculously high budget films. Even out here in Missouri, I looked into permit/insurance costs for shooting in a local park, and it would have been $1000+ a day – the feature I was trying to do had a total budget of like $3500, so yeah… No go.

        @nerdyguy64 @Keith_C They used to shoot loads of films in Canada before. Rumble in the BRONX is filmed in CANADA. Then Canada got expensive, so they moved to Romania and Bulgaria.

    An entirely fan-funded movie (or mostly fan-funded) is rare, so that’s something I’d like to see.

    I just hope the entire movie isn’t just you drinking beer… LOL

    While we are still getting mainstream movies released in theaters, it seems more and more that movies are going independent and direct-to-dvds. Independent films should become the norm and the future of filmaking, heck maybe it already has.

    If you’re looking to save money on locations, you might try filming some scenes on rooftops with city skylines in the background. That could give your scenes a big scale (if you need them) without much cost. And if you do it during the daytime, you don’t even need much lighting.

    Christopher Nolan suggests this in the DVD commentary to “Following,” his debut film. I’m not a filmmaker, but I thought it was a very clever idea.

    James, so this is a totally random idea I will throw your way to help you out. At some point before you start filming, take a little time, and watch Rocky (the first one) again.

    Chris Rock, right before he did “Bring the Pain,” the special that helped launch his career, watched Rocky again shortly before he performed that night, to get that feel of being the underdog, of getting the shot to do what he had always dreamed, despite the odds being against him, and that gave him the energy and the strength needed to pull it off. Not that this will make or break your production, but it might help you from a morale standpoint. Good luck!

    And about the budget and the movie: I don’t care if it’s got a campy feeling without all the latest and greatest effects. I think many fans will agree when I say seeing this movie is something we all look forward to, so do your best and your fans will undoubtedly support you!

    Man, all those filming expenses sound like a scam! I suspect that the Hollywood lobbyists intentionally imposed all these fines and restrictions on purpose, to impose an artificial barrier to entry for any competition.

    Regarding the computer modeling and animation assistance, I posted a thread at a Blender forum – where there are MANY capable people who can do work far cheaper than most Hollywood effects houses – and referred them to the Cinemassacre page seeking CGI assistance:

    I am a little worried that James is going to have some financial issues making this movie in LA. I find it puzzling that he packed up and moved across the country to intentionally film his movie in the most expensive union controlled film zone in the world. I understand that many of his friends and connections are out there, but speaking as a filmmaker who has done work both in the midwest and LA, I wonder if it would have been cheaper to pay to have his friends travel elsewhere to make the movie. Of course he could be going completely underground and avoid permits and the like… but out in LA the cops are in on the film laws and actually will stop you- whereas back home they probably wouldn’t give a crap as long as you aren’t shutting down traffic. I wish you the best of luck dealing with all of that BS James!

      @NightPhoenix I was wondering all that myself. I understand the weather on the west coast is more predictable, and there are certain locations wanted for the movie (ie: Vasquez Rocks), but for a low budget film wouldn’t have been much more practical in terms of costs to keep the bulk of it on the east coast? It always worked for George Romero with all his Pennsylvania based productions, though I think he works mostly in Canada now. I’m just concerned because I really want to see this movie and it seems to be a very ambitious project.

      Well, I suppose if anybody could pull it off it would be James. Good luck.

And he may have figured he could film in certain locations that he wouldn’t have need a permit for. Alas we may not ever really know for sure, but what we do know is James is working his ass off to bring us all some epicness :D GO JAMES GO :D

    So I was at a party and we get to start talking about what is on youtube. I got the cinemassacre t-shirt on partially concealed behind my second layar of cotton. ( Don’t know what kind of clothing is called in english.) All I have to do is take my fingers down on each side to reveal a fucking chainsaw on my chest. How cool is that.

    I started filming in high school doing some small time stuff. Afterwards I began a small film series. After a while it seemed my work never was any good to me and I was ready to say FUCK IT and quit filming altogether. That was when I found the NERD :D I watched the episodes for a long time. Every new episode I watched made me laugh even harder. In 2008 I got the nerve to start a youtube series called Rebellion USA. Later that year I felt once again my work not doing it for me, and that I was never going to be good. I stopped for a month. That was when I came across Cinemassacre. Never realizing that James had done far more things than AVGN, The first thing I watched was CINEMASSACRE 200, and I got to tell you THAT MOVIE SPOKE TO ME. It made me want to film again. Every old piece of work you have posted makes me wanna improve on my filming and skills more and more. Not to sound mushy (Too Late Maybe LOL) buy James Rolfe is my inspiration into FILMING. Thank you James. You Keep Doing This Awesome Work That You Were Born To Do

    I think you’re being way, way too hard on yourself when you call yourself a bum. I mean it’s not like you’re just taking the cash and not giving anything back. If the AVGN fans give you money they get the AVGN movie so I’d say it’s a fair trade and far from… well, bumming. There’s an upcoming finnish/german/australian film called Iron Sky coming up which might interest you as an indie film maker. A part of their budget is fan donations but they’ve also constantly allowed people to participate in the movie by doing different tasks like playing extras and so on. Iron Sky dudes have tons of videos on youtube and they’ve kept their fans pretty well informed on different things like how the movie progresses and behind the scenes type of stuff. They also have a site called wreckamovie.com where indie filmmakers can register and assist each other in different ways.

    This is what’s wrong with the world these day’s ; Everybody wants to get paid ! How is a young upstart movie maker ever to make films if he needs to pay 2000$ a day to shoot at some no where city or village and pay taxes and fees on top ! This pisses me off to no extend !

    Why then do it legally ? Just go and film what you want , where you want ! What are they going to do ? Arrest you for illegal filming of a home movie ? Throw you in jail for not getting a permit to film ?

    But i bet there is a law that state’s you can’t do that and get away with it ! And it was probably made by a republican hard ass of 95 ! Who hate’s modern crap ! Shit ……….!

    I am also very surprised to find that the company that is “helping” you with your fundraiser is taking a big ass chunk off what is given ! I know they have the right legally , but is it right ?

    If the really want to help James make this film , they should donate their fees to the movie ! That would create a lot of goodwill by fans and students and film makers and maybe bring them more profit in the end .

    I have no idea what goes into making films and i have a lot of respect for you James , that you stick to the dream ! I hope i can buy the film when it comes out , to support the project and your site .

James went to them for their ability to get his fund raiser out there. They allow people to make fund raisers for anything. Why would they give James back his fees when they do not do that for anyone else? They never said they wanted to help James besides what their website service offers.

      I just want people to be aware…You gotta have thick skin to be in the film industry; take a lot of heat from many people. I’ve made a few short films myself, for my university, and man was I ever scolded for a scene. There are people out there like this, who go way over board with their thoughts and opinions. ugh…. Hell a lot of times James has paid for a lot of his stuff I.E. Most all of it. With the exceptions of video game donations and all the other things He has put the time and the money. He only asked his fans cause he knows that he could never pay for that kind of a project by himself. James’ wife needs to find this kid and beat him down LOL.

        First of all parents would have to pay for it not some 10yr old with no credit card. So There Is That Major Flaw.If it was true that 10yr old did this then they have awesome parents that give in to anything.

        Second: James Is Taking A Big Leap. Putting All His Time Into Doing This Movie. It is very time consuming. To top it off James has put in his own personal money into this (see Mrs. Rolfe Text On This Website)

        I know from experience as I too have attempted to make a movie. Couldn’t do it cause lack of help.

        James asked for help and he got it. In fact got more than he expected, and that proves loyalty of the fans, and the kindness of others. The idiot in the video made it seem like a cry for more money, and that we are blind sheep. Hollywood gets our money daily without so much as a thank you and half of what they bring out is crap. Twilight being a BIG EXAMPLE >.< Trust me I have spoken my peace to the guy on the video. No matter what I tell him he believes he is right just like anyone with an opinion they don’t want proven wrong. Does he know James personally? I doubt it. Will James Really Care? NOPE! James has his fans and he has his haters, and sadly that is the moral of life. As I say GO JAMES AND DO WHAT YOU DO BEST.

Movie business is hard business and if you go by donations you aren’t in that business. I’m not saying he should pay it all by himself but any other route than donations would be better. I know these things always slip into the same old everyone is free to donate yada yada and that is completely true, but in my opinion for this donation thing to be fair James should be more open about it all. What does the movie cost to make for example? Even a little hint or guess would be nice. Or will he stream it at some point or is it just theatrical releases and DVDs?

        @Destoroyah Easy. He is going to run the movie at several film festivals then he is going to follow up with a DVD release. As for if it will stream on the website, that will depend on James. The movie cost. Well once again that’s one thing James didn’t know. His original thought was $75,000 being enough. He is slowly discovering the costs. I tried this myself (Not Donations but the actual making of a movie) We were underground mainstream and we found it super hard after a month of production and had to scrap the idea. James just wants to see his work done right and in his own lifetime. George Lucas himself had a lot of people help him with funding for Star Wars so he could keep total control.

        10 year-olds also pay money to see the latest Michael Bay and Zach Snyder crap- and blood-fests, too. 10 year-olds pay money for McDonald’s fries and 32-oz. Pepsi. 10 year-olds pay money for crappy video games that they’ll pay once and then discard.

        So it’s okay for a 10 year old to give their money to those huge corporations (teaching them to worship the military and consume carbs by the pound) but it’s NOT okay for 10 year-olds to give money to a movie that they manifestly DO want to see?

        If you think you’re the guardian of 10 year-olds wallets, then go stand outside a movie theater and make sure they don’t send their capital to Hollywood to see ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked’.

        People of all ages spend their money on lots of stupid things and lots of investments that don’t pan out. This is life. But an investment in AVGN – where fans have more education and interest than we do in a Hollywood movie – is a much better and smarter investment than a cash-gorging trip to a theater.

        Personally, I applaud and encourage ALL fans and people (10 years old or 60) who chose to spend their money on this movie rather than the latest Hollywood movie.     Wow, that is a real shame. Who knew filming was so expensive? I don’t like the sounds of “cuts” to the script! Please don’t tell me you have to cut anything from this masterpiece! The sound of that breaks my heart… I hope you are able to put most of what you want into the movie and don’t run into budget issues. The way I see it, if you make it huge with this film, and make a lot of money, what you can give back to fans with this movie, and the ones to come, will be more than worth what the fans put in!       @MiLe1 Not quite, IndiGoGo will snap up a health $13k for hosting the fundraiser. Then James has to send out maybe 4000 photos photos, scripts, props etc to the fans and this support was global, so apart from it not being cheap it is also very time consuming. (I will ignore 30 years of inflation) but $300,000 for a movie is not that much especially when dealing with multiple locations, it is not like Blair Witch which had no crew and filmed in the woods ($60k) or Paranormal Activity shot in the guys house ($15k) or El mariachi shot in Mexico for $6k, but when polished for the screen actually cost $220k.

      Well, then James’ project is probably #1 cause his fund raising started before indiegogo. We do not know the amount of donations via paypal on cinemassacre.com, but i guess it was sth. between 5,000-10,000$. in total, that’s a huge budget for an independant movie. let’s hope the final product will satisfy the fans. imo, it should be a michael moore like documentation with many comedian elements. it could work very well. i guess james would be much more satisfied to have this budget for his upcoming horror movie. its easier and cheaper to make a good independant shocker than a good comedy movie.

        Besides, not many people would like to have funded an AVGN product if James was going to keep that money for himself and produce some non-related products.

    I dont jugde or care about what minority people come from, neither what “race” they have. I am a liberal. But i gotta say this, and dont take it the wrong way. But everything a jew touch turns to gold. And James has proven that this is not a myth. I mean, this kind of money people have given to him, that is money that 95% of the world population never will see in their life. They can only dream about it. This is fantastic, this is a unique thing James has done over the past 5-6 years.

    I have enjoyed the show in many years, and of course James deserve this money. His hard work has finally paid of in a way no one could ever dream of. James Rolfe can know retire for good. Because i dont belive that all this money will go into to spend the movie. James can, after the movie is finished, probably put 70000-120000 dollar in his bank account. And there can it stays ad grew bigger, if he live a normal family life, without party every night.

The thing is that if the movie turns out to be good he will earn much more money than he has gotten through donations. Best case is if the movie will be in theaters around the world.       I have no idea whether James is Jewish or not, but how does that have anything to do with people donating money to his project?

      He got all the donations because he has a large fanbase who are willing to donate a few bucks to see this movie get made.

      You say that he will probably put 70k – 120k away, and you say that he can retire for good? In what country can you retire on 120k?

      From the 300k+ about 7% will go to indiegogo, and James mentioned that they’ll get hit pretty hard with taxes, because they didn’t use the money in 2011.

      He will probably net about 200k+, which is a really small amount to make a movie with, even when talking about indie movies.

      He will have to pay people, rent equipment, pay for post, distribution, marketing etc. if he will go indie all the way.

      I hope you realize that the 200k+ they are working with is really not that much.

    I might be wrong here but…really I’m not that excited with all that indigogo thing…I mean, I love avgn since the beginning, really ! And I hope that the movie is gonna be good…But I think we are beeing a bit fooled here. I know how much it costs to create a movie, I Know especially how much it costs for vfx since that’s what I’ve been studying and working on for about 5 years now. But I do not think all the money involved this campain will all go in the movie.

    Anyway we true fans loved the way avgn was with the old crappy cameras, the cheap fx and I think there are chances that trying to make something that is partly awesome because of it’s cheap old school style that big make the whole franchise fail, at least for me and the people that are there since the beggining….

    I know James has to pay for an apartment out there, food and stuff like that, localisation etc etc. But really, how come fans pay for the preproduction ? Show us something about the movie that makes it worth enough to give you our money. You can’t simply justify asking for money if you don’t have anything to prove that the investment is worth it.

    I’d really love to see a bank give me 500 000 for that pretty cool thing i’m planning, can’t say what it’s about but hey, it’s worth it… Do you see where I’m going here ?

    Really, I think if James want to make people that give him their money believe that they are involved in this movie, maybe they have the right to be aware of what’s going on with their money, what the script is about (Other than AVGN FINNALLY REVIEWS ET ! ), when is the movie coming out and all that stuff.

    I don’t want to bash james here, I just wanna point the fact that : hey, what proof do you have that the movie is really coming out ?

    There is one major problem in my opinion. People always think that James didn’t get anything from them watching his videos.

    I don’t really agree with that. James always wanted to make movies and videos and he wanted them to be seen. So at the beginning it was the fans who gave him everything. We were watching his videos, we bothered to follow his work/career and we told our friends about James and his work. Of course it was James’ talent and creativity that made so many people watch his work, but in the end it was always the fans that supported him. If people would have ignored him he couldn’t make a living of his work. Even now, he can continue living like this because people still come here, to watch his videos.

    With the big success he had over the years his hobby became his job. Thanks to the fans. Now with the movie we have a whole new situation. He is trying to take his career to a whole new level. The problem is/was that he can’t/couldn’t afford it. So he asked the fans for donations. So it’s the fans again who make it possible that his dream comes true.

    James owes A LOT to his fans and their loyalty. Without them he wouldn’t be where he is today.

The problem is/was that he can’t/couldn’t afford it. So he asked the fans for donations. So it’s the fans again who make it possible that his dream comes true.

    James owes A LOT to his fans and their loyalty. Without them he wouldn’t be where he is today. So it’s absolutely legitimate that people question or criticize the donations. And by that I mean in a respectful manner with legitimate points and not the random insult and hatred that (too) many people post.

      @Olivania You make it sound like people come on here and watch videos as a favor to him. We do it because we LIKE watching the videos. Like any show, it wouldn’t exist unless people watched it. I get that people want to know that their donated money is being used for the purpose that they donated it, but my problem is meeeeeeeeee didn’t even donate and is just being a shit disturber.

        @meeeeeeeeee Well no I’m not saying those that donated are “cooler” and you’re an asshole for not donating. It’s completely optional and I don’t expect any gratification for donating, it was for James not for me. I’m just saying that for someone who hasn’t donated, you’re sure trying to stir something up about how he uses the money when, in reality, it’s not even your money to be concerned about. If you’re not comfortable donating, then don’t (and you didn’t), but why come on here and try and make everyone else who did uncomfortable? Like Mikefate said, if he used my money to buy a case of beer, I honestly would not care. James already said he felt uncomfortable asking for money, and then when he reads these comments he has you complaining about how there’s no proof, etc. Give him a break.

      I really hope you are right, I hope james will use it for the right thing and all, I agree with the fact that james owes a lot to his fans, he would not be where he is without them ! Maybe I didn’t expressed myself the right way, I’m french after all I got a hard time getting used to structure my sentences well… (I guess ? ) Anyway, all I ment was that I love his work, I love the way a simple guy like james his becoming popular and he is truly an inspiration for a lot of people including me. All I say is that IF (a really big uncertain IF ) he uses it for other purpouses than the movie I and probably a bunch of fans are gonna be disapointed that’s all.

    My question is not if James will be using the money for making a movie or not (because i am positive that he will be). My question is if he will be making money from the movie once it is done, and what he would be doing with that money if he did. I’m not sure if he has already answered this question or not but I think it would be an appropriate one to answer.

    Can’t wait to see the movie anyways. Even if I do have to pay for it. Would be nice to see him giving it back to his fans for free though.

      @SsWillsS All of his videos are free..the only stuff he charges for are things like merchandise. I’m not sure how much more free you want. I would be shocked if he let the movie be free…he has to make a living too you know.

    Too much time was spent on questionning wether he was gonna use it for the movie or not, let me simply reformulate it so people can understand. I wish James the best of luck, I trust he will be using the money the right way for the movie, I didn’t tought simply asking one question was going to get all that hate in response, that’s fine, I don’t really mind nor care.     You wont see 200.000 dollars. the taxes will take around half away sadly.

    Yeah the filming is very costly, thats why nowadays 20 million is considered “small budget”.

    The blob was very lucky, because the lcoation was pretty much for free and townfolk helped with eager :) wish you would find such heplful people.

      @masterkjm4260 He has to sell the Dvd, naturally. But it’s not like it’ll be a lot… it might be 15$. The money he gets from selling the movie will pay off debts he will likely have because he probably won’t have gotten enough to cover making it. If he doesn’t need it for that, then he’ll use it for the next projects. Either way, he needs it.

    Most movies get in the hundreds of billions of dollars to create. Just to pick a random example, the 2007 Transformers had a 150 million dollar budget.(But you would think that with all that movie, they could write a decent script and characters… nope. Money can’t buy everything)

      @DrainBlut Come on compare it to something in the same category ! Avatar was one of the most expensive movies ever made… Good movies with low budget exist you know ? Yeah I’m talking about the evil dead franchise here, it was a long time ago, but it cost 350 000 with 29 million dollars worldwide gross.. I don’t think it needs to cost more than 500-600 thousand dollars, if the story’s good, it’s going to be good. Transformers, for example, was one of the worst movies I’ve seen in the last decade !

    In your video you mentioned about the huge accumulative costs of props and effects, have you considered approaching film/art schools where students are likely looking for opportunities to practice and hone their skills? Plus they would be able to list on their resumes that they have worked on an actual movie, so bonus points there.

    Nice one James! I don’t begrudge you the donations I’ve made – like others say, I enjoyed your stuff for free for years, and as somebody else said; weird as it sounds, your site often provided the kind of non-mainstream light relief I needed from life when things got tough. All the best for the shoot; and don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll all be great! BTW – I hear Werner Herzog runs a course in forging shooting permits ;)
