This was seriously awesome! I just finished watching all the Treks – Started with TNG, then went through DS9, Voyager, Enterprise and ended with TOS and I didn’t know at least HALF of these questions. If I thought you two were cool and made rad videos before, you just elevated to “Hero” status. Can’t wait to see more!!
It’s so funny that I am watching this and hearing the battle music, while at the same on WGN they’re showing the Futurama episode right now where Dr. Zoidberg goes back to his home planet to mate, lol! Great video, guys. : )
Wow, who clicked the link and saw that Castlevania 64 response? That guy is insufferable. No one actually cares about the details, or how to really do it.
Wow watched before it hit facebook. You gotta do more of these brought back memories. I was shocked at how much I still knew and I haven’t watched TOS in years. Glad you guys are still posting with the movie and all
To answer the question, ” what is Spock’s position on the bridge, he sits at the science station and is classified as science officer along with being first officer.
If only you could do trivia on Doctor Who. That gave one, two, or three questions: How come you never mention Doctor Who? Have you seen it? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Just asking.
Even though I’ve seen every episode of the original series, I missed most of the questions that you guys asked. I think I’m more familiar with Next Generation since that was the series I grew up with.
I went to play Star Trek DAC or something earlier in the day for X-Box 360 then I decided to play for the first time in a couple years Star Trek Legacy and as im playing the first mission this was posted on Facebook. Feels like a Star Trek day its gonna be today.
Yes, I know, James and Motherfucker Mike are on opposite sides of the country right now. I’ve been a Cinemassacre fan since 2007 and I’m seeing the movie when it goes on tour. I was being facetious, you oversensitive dildo dick fucks!
@ZachThompson As far as I know, “trekkie” came first because Gene Roddenberry claims he came up with it, but apparently that became associated with being a geeky loser so some butthurt fans came up with the word “trekker” because it sounds more “serious.”
@ZachThompson “Trekkers” are supposedly normal people who like Star Trek, whereas “trekkies” are the weird overblown obsessed people. This distinction dates at least back to the 70′s. Although it’s not something that’s universally acknowledged.
Really though, the best explainaition I ever heard of the difference is:
A “trekker” is a Star Trek fan. A trekkie is someone who insists on being called a trekker.
@ZachThompson I know in the ’80s with TNG they said “Trekker” was the PC version as “Trekkie” was an insult. They also claimed Trekker was for TNG fans and Trekkie for original series fans.
Spock is the Science Officer of the Star Ship Enterprise, he is generally accepted as the second in command, but he shares the position with both the Chief Medical officer (“Bones” McCoy) and the Chief Engineer, (“Scotty”).
This is further complicated by the fact that prior too the standing rank organization of the Enterprise, in the pilot, there was an actual second in command in the rank structure, and Spock still held the science officer position.

With all this in place in TNG, Riker serves in the other positions extremely rarely, helping in engineering only in extreme emergencies.
All in all I think the rank structure on the original enterprise is unofficial, enforced at the whim of Kirk as much of the enterprise’s operational day to day stuff is not to standard it seems. He was not really, by the book.
@Mark Taylor Spock didn’t share the second in command position. He was the First Officer/Executive Officer, when Kirk wasn’t on duty, Spock was in charge. The only time anyone else was in charge was when both Kirk and Spock were off duty or off the ship. There is a line of command succession down the ranks. After Spock was Scotty then Sulu. McCoy was never in charge, he was just always on the bridge giving everyone advice but he never held command.
The first Trek movie was not really made to compete with Star Wars, they had been trying to start a new TV series. But as one thing changed, many things changed and they ended up with a movie instead of a new show.
I can barely remember some of these episodes. I grew up on the next generation series. I remember they used to air an episode every night and for awhile two episodes a night 9/10p. I can’t wait to hear some TNG trivia
Mike, as a fellow Trekkie, I find myself drawn to this video like no other. I damn-near answered all of those questions… I know TOS the least of all. Any chance we might see some questions relating to any of the spinoffs, whether it be The Animated Series or the greatest Trek ever Deep Space Nine? Anyway, make more Star Trek stuff! Awesome job as usual.
@Czab@MrArkadin Yeoman isnt a rank, per se, more like a job title, like Science officer, engineer, or mechanic. its the Term the current navy uses for their “paperwork” people and secretaries

I love this Trek Trivia. When Mike said, “Aye, aye, aye” for III, James should have said, “One aye is sufficient acknowledgement, Ensign”.
Nice video guys, I’m glad you stuck to a bit more casual trivia or I would of been pretty lost.
I love watching the re-mastered version of the series. They play it on Space during the week. Doomsday Day Machine is one of the most noticeable improvements.
@B1ueyedfiend Having watched many episodes now on Netflix, I have to say, I’m really not a fan of the “improvements”, like the CG and such. It just kind of looks out of place with everything else, and having grown up with the original series, I honestly kind of like the old effects. Just like old Doctor Who. They have their own charm, and unless someone is a “graphics whore”, so to speak, they work perfectly fine.
For me there is only the original series, Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek The Motion Picture, Star Trek II The Wrath Of Kahn, Star Trek First Contact, and Star Trek Insurrection, well the comment that Data makes to worf ” and have you noticed how your boobs have started to firm u…..” put that film at the bottom of the list but it’s still there. I mean come on he is an android not an idiot.
Finnegan is older than Kirk in reality. He was his upperclassman. Finnegan is not really there on that planet obviously, although that manifestation of him was younger than Kirk…
James, you mumble too much. I keep playing back your questions and I cannot understand you half the time, even though my ear is up against the speaker and the volume on it *and* my hearing aid is turned up. I’m just saying, dude. might wanna work on that a bit.

@RowanJColeman True. People also seem to forget the Animated Series from the 70s, which, seeing as how it had all of the original main cast doing voices (Except for no Chekov), and seeing as how, for a cartoon, it still retained the same basic quality and feel of the show, I always just looked at it as essentially the 4th season of TOS. Great stuff. I remember seeing re-runs of it as a very little kid.
Spock was First Officer and Science Officer. But that question about his station on the bridge was silly, as was the question about why his ears are pointed. Mike’s answer is the correct answer. It’s because he was an alien.
About time this site did some Trek!!! 2 things I love: Cinemassacre, and Star Trek. Today is a good day. You should replace the old turtle tuesday with Trek tuesday!
This was a great watch. And damn Mike! The Vulcan questions were nothing for you huh?!? I was more on par with James and knew simple facts. Remembering actual language from the show is fkng impressive!

I got the Altair 6 question. Immediately, too; that was almost frightening.
But you know, the thing is that a lot of these trivia answers are actually fun to know: kroyka, an-woon, tranya… But not L-374 III!

Am I the only one who has never heard of a Star Trek fan being referred to as a “trekker”? That is seriously the first time I’ve heard that.
January 27, 2012 at 6:12 am
@ZachThompson I’ve heard of the term before, but I don’t know anyone that really uses it.
January 27, 2012 at 7:49 am
@ZachThompson As far as I know, “trekkie” came first because Gene Roddenberry claims he came up with it, but apparently that became associated with being a geeky loser so some butthurt fans came up with the word “trekker” because it sounds more “serious.”

@ZachThompson “Trekkers” are supposedly normal people who like Star Trek, whereas “trekkies” are the weird overblown obsessed people. This distinction dates at least back to the 70′s. Although it’s not something that’s universally acknowledged.

great vid though, Mofo Mike and Captain James T. Nerd XD
January 27, 2012 at 7:21 am
Ok, nerd alert time,
Spock is the Science Officer of the Star Ship Enterprise, he is generally accepted as the second in command, but he shares the position with both the Chief Medical officer (“Bones” McCoy) and the Chief Engineer, (“Scotty”).
This is further complicated by the fact that prior too the standing rank organization of the Enterprise, in the pilot, there was an actual second in command in the rank structure, and Spock still held the science officer position.
Now compare this to a TNG, where we have a definitive rank structure, with Riker serving as a Second in Command, and serving no other role. Data serves as Science Officer, Geordi LaForge (for most of the series) serves as Chief Engineer, and Beverly Crusher serves as the Chief Medical officer.
January 27, 2012 at 12:12 pm
@Mark Taylor Spock didn’t share the second in command position. He was the First Officer/Executive Officer, when Kirk wasn’t on duty, Spock was in charge. The only time anyone else was in charge was when both Kirk and Spock were off duty or off the ship. There is a line of command succession down the ranks. After Spock was Scotty then Sulu. McCoy was never in charge, he was just always on the bridge giving everyone advice but he never held command.
January 27, 2012 at 7:50 am
This makes me want to watch more Star Trek, although TNG will always be better than the original series (with the movies it’s the opposite, though)
January 27, 2012 at 7:56 am
Anti-proton and it’s absolutely pure !

Wut!? I have never heard that. Show me the episode in which they establish that.

@Czab It’s one of those things that was in early supplemental material that actual canon has gone on to ignore.
