We’ve looked at a lot of film locations in Los Angeles and have seen some really cool stuff. We even happened to stumble upon a set that was being dressed for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film. Awesome!
The AVGN Movie has a lot of locations that we need to find. The script may be a little too ambitious, but that’s the fun of it. Unfortunately, most of the locations we looked at are very expensive to use! I’m getting schooled in Hollywood pretty quickly.
Anyone have a location that we could use in the Los Angeles area? I know it’s a long shot, but I guess it can’t hurt to ask. Here’s some of the spots we need. (Some are easier than others)
Boiler room
Warehouse (mostly for us to be able to build our own sets in)
Green screen studio
Carnival/Amusement park
A desert field (Does your backyard look like the Atari landfill?)
Surveillance room
A yard with a satellite dish (We’re talking BIG)
Operating room
Kitchen/Living room with a cabin look or retro wood panel walls.
Conference room
Fighter Jet cockpit (Yeah, good luck, right?)
School bus

January 26, 2012 at 12:15 am
Such a secret location, nope nothing famous was ever filmed there.
January 26, 2012 at 4:23 am
@Johnthegamer Your point?
January 26, 2012 at 8:21 am
@metalcommandIt looks to be the Vasquez Rocks. EVERYTHING was filmed there.
January 26, 2012 at 12:25 am
nice !
January 26, 2012 at 12:39 am
For the fighter jet cockpit, there are people who make their own home built realistic simulators. I’d search around the net, maybe you’d find someone that would let you use it for filming.

January 26, 2012 at 1:20 am
If your looking for desert anything past the 15 freeway will be just fine (Inland Empire area) of Southern California, about 40 miles east of LA…also in the Ontario area (also with in the Inland Empire) I know of many warehouse) that prob go for really cheap givin theres a million of them with in the area….just a heads up that’s theres good spots in the “greater Los Angeles area” with out the price tag of Hollywood but just 20 miles East.
January 26, 2012 at 1:38 am
I believed director Jason Eisener has a school bus, but it’s burnt to a crisp somewhere in Canada!

Watch out for rattlesnakes. You’re not is Philly anymore Toto:)
January 26, 2012 at 1:52 am
Are you at that place with the two caves that you talked about in one of your videos!?
January 26, 2012 at 1:54 am
You’d be surprised what kind of places are available to rent on an hourly or daily basis. Los Angeles is the porn capital of the United States; they film more porn movies there than anywhere else, and a lot of those porn movies need sets and locations too! (Though some just need as little as a matress and 4 walls…) I bet if you check around you can find some really neat places really cheap. As far as looking for some of the other stuff, like a desert, an amusement park, there are some really neat places out there that will probably let you film there, unless you’re looking for an ABANDONED amusement park. In fact, you can travel to redlands, ca (its about an hour I think outside of LA) and that area out there is pretty desert-ish and I think the amusement park out there is actually closed down (Pharaoh’s Lost Kingdom, I haven’t been there in over 10 years, I think I remember my dad telling me that they closed it down somewhat recently) So if thats what you want thats 2 birds with 1 stone!
Or if you want a running park, try going to Golf n’ Stuff out in Norwalk, CA. Its got an arcade, bumper cars, bumper boats, waterslide, and did I mention they filmed the Karate Kid at this place (it’s where daniel and allie had their date) and from what I’ve gathered, they’ve kept the place up in pretty good shape, so it’s not like a piece of shit! I haven’t been to Golf n’ Stuff in probably 14 years, but it was a blast last time I was there.
I wish you good luck in this endeavor. My father still lives in LA area (pasadena, specifically) and he’s the fucking KING of locations. He can watch a movie filmed in southern california and tell you where each scene took place and can get out an atlas and tell you what streets they’re on. He’s a master. I can ask him for ideas too and then forward them back to you.
I love location scouting! My dad had a friend named Stan Pearse that was the location manager of demolition man (credited as f.Stanley Pearse Jr.) (which at that time was my favorite movie ever with my favorite actor ever) and he told me about locations scouting and that it was hard but fun.
Anyway, I’m getting all scatterbrained and my ambien is making me doze off in the middle of typing this, so I’ll talk to my dad , see what I can do.

“Movie magic”? You just ruined my snuff film!
January 26, 2012 at 2:05 am
you have to pay……….just to use your camera in a place?……………..This fuck’n country…….
January 26, 2012 at 5:50 pm
It’s the same in the rest of the world… This fuck’n world…
March 26, 2012 at 7:41 am
@Marvipe Dude, you have to pay just to use a camera in public if you’re a film crew. They call it public liability insurance and it’s bullshit. I think if I’m filming a scene by the side of the road in perfectly pedestrian territory, if you see that there’s something going on and the very SIGHT of a movie being made makes you swerve out of control, that’s YOUR goddamn fault.Think about it, who needs to have more responsibility for their equipment? The guy operating a camera, or the guy operating a heavy machinery capable of traveling at tops speeds of between 80 and like 100 and something miles per hour that is literally PROPELLED BY EXPLOSIONS?
January 26, 2012 at 2:13 am
Just think, ten or twenty years from now, someone is going to be making a “Rocky Jumped A Park Bench” or “Follow That Marshmallow” but for your movie.
January 26, 2012 at 2:21 am
Isn’t Freddie Wong in L.A. They have access to some of these places perhaps contacting him might help.
January 26, 2012 at 5:50 pm
He would demand a bunch of dollars…
January 26, 2012 at 2:45 am
Hey James I know there’s definitely gotta be a place to get in a jet cockpit. If they don’t let you film at some aeronautical museum, you can always try an airplane boneyard. They list some places on the wikipedia page and some are in california http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_boneyard
Mythbusters seem to be there a lot too.
January 26, 2012 at 3:22 am
Fighter Jet cockpit….. we do have something like that but it would be impossible to send from whereabouts it is, we have a cockpit because we made one for a school play a while back
January 26, 2012 at 3:49 am
Loma Linda insane assylum/hospital allows filming and has a boiler room.
January 26, 2012 at 3:52 am
Linda Vista hospital has a creepy boiler room.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Vista_Community_Hospital
January 26, 2012 at 6:44 am
@RichardRobinson Very true. It’s available for shooting, and also has (rather dilapidated) operating rooms, if you need those. Rates were pretty reasonable last time I checked.
January 26, 2012 at 3:55 am
When you said you were going to be doing vlogs during production, I was expecting.. like.. every other week or so. Certainly not even near the volume that has been produced so far, especially since (to my understanding) you haven’t started shooting proper yet. I have a feeling I’m going to end up learning a lot about the moviemaking process just from watching these, even if you don’t explicitly intend for that to happen in the first place.
This is getting way ahead of things, but when this is released on DVD, provided that there’s enough room for it, you should seriously consider including these as a bonus feature.
January 26, 2012 at 10:05 am
@salculd quit your bitching
January 26, 2012 at 4:09 pm
@ljngamessuck@salculd How is he bitching? He praised James releasing blogs more then expected and recommended putting them on the DVD for the movie.
January 26, 2012 at 4:16 pm
@ljngamessuck Okay. I went back in time and quit so hard that I never started in the first place.

January 26, 2012 at 4:35 am
@metalcommand He is requesting a fly by.
January 26, 2012 at 4:49 am
@Doogrisa If he would, he would ask for a fighter jet, not a fighter jet cockpit…..
January 26, 2012 at 4:35 am
did he really die
January 26, 2012 at 4:36 am
@JCoughee this isnt failblog.
January 26, 2012 at 5:47 pm
*facepalm*
Don’t feed the trool…
January 26, 2012 at 5:29 am
Looks like you’ve already got what’s in between your hands, James. Good luck!!
January 26, 2012 at 5:36 am
I think you’ll have to make the scenes of Fighter Jet Cockpit Ed Wood style. And by that I mean a stick, a chair and a white wall behind the pilot.
January 26, 2012 at 5:38 am
I love how youve brought up the atari landfill
January 26, 2012 at 5:58 am
Now that I think of it… You haven’t shot any scene yet, right? But then what about the Nerd’s basebent? Is it not gonna be in the movie at all?? Or maybe you’ll shot scenes there in the end, after returning back home, or maybe you secretly already shot those scenes….?
January 26, 2012 at 5:59 am
@Freddy Fiorentino i imagine they shot scenes there already, if not…i have no idea
January 26, 2012 at 6:13 am
Secret you say? It doesn’t happen to be a certain place where a certain favorite movie of James’ took place? Hmmm…?
January 26, 2012 at 6:17 am
Plus, there’s an airplane scrap yard in Nevada, a couple of hours from California that would be sure to have a cockpit from a plane/fighter jet. Don’t know exactly where it’s located but it shouldn’t be too hard to find.
January 26, 2012 at 6:18 am
I know it’s a long-shot and the chance it will be of help is slim; but if you get desperate and can’t find a place to do green-screen work in L.A., or if you just need to do some last-minute re-shoots, I’d suggest going by IMC Studios in Russellville, Arkansas (from the route on your travel v-log it didn’t look too far out of the way). They have a really nice studio set-up for you to work with. Here’s a link:http://www.imcstudios.com/facilities/
They’re good friends of mine. John Montgomery, the owner, was one of my groomsmen at my wedding. He’s a really nice guy and quite passionate about film-making himself. I’m pretty sure it would be cheaper than most places you’ll find on the west coast at the very least…
January 26, 2012 at 6:39 am
I really think you guys should find a financer. A producer or celeb who’s a big AVGN fan who agrees w/ your creative ideas. You guys can do it. Make the AVGN movie awesome!

Every time I hear “California” I hear it with the voice of the young boy from The Wizard… seen that AVGN episode way too often
January 26, 2012 at 7:18 am
the same thing happens to me @Tenchuu
January 26, 2012 at 6:53 am
You should go to Twentynine Palms in the mojave east of L.A. in San Bernardino County. Desert scenes and I’m sure you can find someone with an old school big ass satellite dish in the yard with a few school buses too. I’m telling you, 29 has everything.
January 26, 2012 at 7:53 am
can’t wait for this film to be finished.
January 26, 2012 at 8:06 am
I love these little Nerd Log videos. I think just as great as the movie will be will be the journey that brings us through its production. Thanks for sharing it with us!
January 26, 2012 at 8:15 am
That location looks oddly familiar to the one in Bill and Ted’s bogus journey, the mountain they get thrown off? and by extension, that episode of star trek which is referenced in the movie.
January 26, 2012 at 9:08 am
@worldvsrichard Vasquez Rocks!
January 26, 2012 at 9:09 am
Boiler room? Is Freddy gonna be in the movie?
January 26, 2012 at 9:18 am
even the nerd logs are interesting. they always seem to be too short though, and leaves me begging for more, which now i’m beginning to think was either intentional, a pure accident, or just short because he’s so busy. nevermind, I think i’m over analyzing… XD.
January 26, 2012 at 9:21 am
Jet fighter cockpit shouldn’t be hard at all… I would think an air museum wouldn’t mind letting you do some stuff?
January 26, 2012 at 9:35 am
If those locations you’re looking for sums up the film, it MUST be great!!
January 26, 2012 at 9:52 am
Hmm i just get the shakes that James is looking for the location of E.T. (not “the” location but a desert one) to do a thing in the movie when he digs upp the E.T. Nes games…
January 26, 2012 at 9:53 am
Hmm i just get the shakes that James is looking for the location of E.T. (not “the” location but a desert one) to do a thing in the movie when he digs upp the E.T. Atari games…
January 26, 2012 at 10:25 am
Too bad that you can’t make it too far(France). I worked in an helicopter company and we have a fully helicopter dashboard(Scraped).
January 26, 2012 at 10:33 am
Jesus Christ, twice the locations? I hope you guys can handle that much amibition.
January 26, 2012 at 11:36 am
I hope they film at Bronson Cave
January 26, 2012 at 6:03 pm
@Jenn Adkins Fkng awesome idea!!!
January 26, 2012 at 11:58 am
if you can drag your ass all the way to Finland, i will be more than happy to let you use our boiler room downstairs
but since you won’t be doing that, all i can do is wis you the best of luck with the movie
January 26, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Y’know you probably have a couple of fans in the airforce, so taking a quick shot in the seat of a fighter jet wouldn’t be a long shot. but thats mostly wishful thinking.
January 26, 2012 at 12:06 pm
Film in imagination land…Imaaaaginaatiiiooon
January 26, 2012 at 12:33 pm
wait he might be okay…no probably not now
January 26, 2012 at 12:35 pm
You may very well wanna concider greenscreening as many locations as you can. Cheesy? yes, but cheesy can = comedy. Of course if you even bothered to do that you might as well badly dub the voices as well. lol
January 26, 2012 at 1:16 pm
If you want to use my family’s back yard for a land fill I used it in one of my own films. I live a little north of LA in Lancaster. It isn’t much farther then where you are in that video. here is a link to my video that shows the location off a bit. http://youtu.be/QEmjGDw2t2w. email me at jjraiman@ymail.com if you are interested…… Jon.
January 26, 2012 at 6:03 pm
@JonJefferyRaiman Took a peek at this fellas film. It seems campy and fun. Would suggest folks check it out! (This takes you to part 2 so make sure to switch over to the first part if you do not want spoilers. Thanks for the video JonJefferyRaiman!
January 26, 2012 at 6:31 pm
@DaveMcGrath Thank you I am glad you like it.
January 26, 2012 at 1:23 pm
E.T. can be found in my old wooden tool shed out back. Come on down to KY.
January 26, 2012 at 5:46 pm
@CocaineRico That sounds like you want to molest him?!?!? RUN JAMES! NO MEANS NO!
January 26, 2012 at 1:26 pm
There are all sorts of air shows that let you sit in the cockpits of all sorts of planes/helicopters. It might be worth looking into. But you would probably have to be quick about it.
January 26, 2012 at 2:11 pm
As for the survelence room you could look into maybe a high school or a mall…mine have like 30 monitors set up and i think they even have a few watching the bathroom doors. and malls usually have rooms of that sortNevada is just a few miles away from LA so a dessert shouldn’t be that hard.
You could try the San Diego County Fair for an amusement park and see if you can get in to film it after it closes Im sure theres an abandoned Warehouse somewhere in LA but if not…
Try an Air Show if you can and ask about renting an unused hangar.
In Santee, California we have a small air field called Gillespie field and you may also be able to find an empty hangar there
Good Luck nerd
January 26, 2012 at 2:13 pm
also for surveillance you could try a police station or even a prison
January 26, 2012 at 2:37 pm
Raleigh Studios, by santa monica and highland. Its owned by George Rosenthal, i know the guy so if your going for an actual movie set i could try and see whats the least they would rent one out. If it was even possible, and if not… there are a bunch of warehouses in sun valley and mainly by north hollywood. They run beside the train tracks… major cross street would be tujunga and vanowen. I used to live by there, it seems like there could be a bunch of warehouses you could rent or idk. Cheers.
January 26, 2012 at 2:40 pm
carnivals, amusement park? check around the san fernando valley, in the parks and shit.
January 26, 2012 at 2:46 pm
Good thing he did not die, that could of set back production another month
January 26, 2012 at 5:44 pm
@GuKingOfHeart They have the technology! They can… erm, could rebuild him!
January 26, 2012 at 2:53 pm
Will all these Nerd Log videos be on the special edition Blu-ray?
January 26, 2012 at 3:01 pm

January 26, 2012 at 5:43 pm
@TRhamy and that cloud? OH that blade of grass!
(im sorry to tease. But it just sounded so vague and that made it funny. You could be right who knows?)
January 26, 2012 at 4:51 pm
Please use this footage in a Making of Sequence for the bonus disk. You guys WILL have a bonus disk, won’t you?
January 26, 2012 at 5:42 pm
@Firewall_Philip_Hanan Seriously!
January 26, 2012 at 4:57 pm
The Estrella WarBirds Museum in Paso Robles, CA (about 4 hours north of LA) has a ton of airplanes and it’s open to the public. You can sit in a few of them as well. The ones that are open for the public to sit in are a little worn of course, but they might be good enough for the shot you have planned, with a little movie magic.
http://www.ewarbirds.org/
January 26, 2012 at 5:07 pm
?? Isn’t it obvious that filming in California would be expensive? Good luck out west boys! Thanks for the update.
January 26, 2012 at 5:13 pm
So, the nerd flies now? Awesome.
January 26, 2012 at 5:26 pm
When AVGN did the Spielberg collection of games at the end it said to be continued, does that mean the films going to be part 2? That would be awesome AGVN and his journey to ET Atari landfill so he can dump ET in with all the rest of them hahaha
I know James loves his horror so it’s bound to have some horror elements in the operating room like in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 2 (and I know how James loved that film and probably that scene too)
Finally I know James no 1 film it’s a mad mad mad mad world, so it will probably have elements of that too.
I know what a genius James is so his film will more than likely be waay better than anything I’ve put in this message – best of luck to James and everyone else involved in this AVGN film: D
January 26, 2012 at 5:41 pm
@tomtiss THANK YOU! I never considered the fact that Horror would possibly play a role in the film. God I am a derp! I DID however consider the mad-etc world film being refrenced. A shame the trees are gone or it would have been a funny pop-culture shot!
Then again… Pop-culture is “mainstream” media and such. Maybe we need a new term???
Nerd-Culture?
Cinnamassaculture?
AVGN-C?
Just a thought. And thanks for the interesting thoughts tomtiss
