Here is a response from my wife. Enjoy.
Some A’s for your Q’s:
Wow, over 1000 comments. I sincerely appreciate all the support and enthusiasm. I’ve read just about all of them. I’ve pared it down to 22 general questions (in no particular order) since many of them were repeated or were similar in subject. Hopefully all of you with reasonable inquiries will receive your answers. I think I got the gist of them all, but my apologies if your specific question was overlooked. I also want to apologize for the delay in getting the answers out there. As you’ve been informed, James and I just traveled 3000 miles across the United States to Los Angeles, CA to start production on the AVGN movie. Unfortunately, my original post went up just before we left and so I’m just now getting a chance to thoroughly read and respond. Thanks for you patience and understanding. My posts won’t always be this long, but hopefully this will give you a taste of what’s to come. Thanks and enjoy!
1. Why write this at all? Why now? Why is this important?
My original post addresses this for the most part, but I do feel the need to express that I’m only doing this because James asked me to. In terms of the timing, I think that is directly related to the progress of the AVGN movie. As I take a larger role in the production of the movie, it will be harder to remain anonymous, so James and I decided it’s better to just come out and introduce myself, on my own terms, instead of allowing for speculation and rumors.
2. Do I collect anything? How do I feel about the game/movie collection spreading throughout the house?
A lot of people are far more concerned with this than I am. Most people who walk into my living room and see a huge, framed, panoramic poster of Rocky above my mantel automatically think that I begrudge it, but I don’t! I genuinely like that the movie collection has shaped the design of my living room. It’s like having a BlockBuster at my fingertips. The gaming collection is downstairs in the basement, so I don’t have to deal with that as much but I don’t mind that one either. I personally don’t collect anything and am not much of a “stuff” person, but that’s just me. James and I compliment each other in this way.
3. How do I deal with James’ love of his childhood and nostalgia?
It’s not really something to “deal with” really. It’s a big part of what makes him who he is, so I respect and appreciate that. I think our generation in general is very nostalgic because we are going through a rough time as a society. Childhood in the 80’s was awesome, why not try to relive it?
4. Feeling on the fans in general? When did I notice the popularity? Any attacks in public? How has the “fame” affected our lives?
I can honestly say this is all still very surreal to me. I am just so grateful for all the opportunities that James’ success has awarded us both and so because of that I am able to accept the otherwise less appealing aspects of the lifestyle. Generally the fans are very supportive and polite though and I appreciate each and every one of them. Without an audience, none of this would be possible. Of course the popularity has affected our lives both positively and negatively. I’d be lying if I said there weren’t some trying times. We have to be really secretive about our personal stuff, which can be annoying. At conventions or certain public situations we sometimes we have to be “the mean guy” just so we can rest, eat, go to the bathroom, etc. I really don’t like doing that, but sometimes its just necessary. Overall, the good outweighs the bad though. As far as the first time I noticed the popularity that would have to be when I went to my first “Iron Man of Gaming” Convention with James back in 2008. That was the first time I saw a room full of people excited to see him and hear what he had to say. That was pretty cool.
5. What’s up with the photo that was attached to the first post?
Oh geez. It’s kind of funny actually. James decided that we needed to attach a photo to the post and he picked that one. He really likes that picture for some reason. It was taken at a wedding a few years ago. I don’t dislike it, but I can understand how you all think I look pissed off or something. Bottom line, I am not a very photogenic person. This is one of the reasons I’ve stayed away from being in videos and such. I do want to thank you all though for the nice comments. It makes a girl blush. But yea, not to blame him or anything, but James chose the picture ; )
6. What are my tastes in media? (i.e. movies, games, TV, books, music, etc?)
So I’m going to break some hearts now, but I have to be honest. I don’t play video games. I appreciate them, but I don’t play them. I didn’t grow up playing them, so I never gained the skills or patience required to play them. Movies, TV, books and music though, I totally dig! This is where James and I really connect. I love good classic comedies, sci-fi, horror (classic and modern). The only film genre that James and I don’t see eye to eye on is the schlock films, I pretty much enjoy everything else though. Stay tuned, perhaps one day I will post my Top 10. I’m a huge fan of television. Modern shows I like are How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, The Walking Dead, and basically any cooking competition shows. Older shows I like are Star Trek (TNG the best) and all the classic TGIF shows, Gilligan’s Island, Twilight Zone, etc. As far as books go, I like quirky autobiographies a lot. My favorite authors are Jonathon Safran Foer, Augusten Burroughs and David Sedaris. James and I both love reading autobiographies from musicians, too like Ozzy’s book and Dave Mustaine’s book. That leads me to music. I love hard rock and heavy metal. This is probably where James and I have the most similar tastes. Some of my favorites bands are Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Megadeth, System of a Down, Judas Priest, Motorhead and many others.
7. Do I consider myself a nerd also?
Yea, I would call myself a nerd. I know there are various stratas of nerddom, but I’m definitely in there somewhere. I’d probably fall more into the classical description. I did well in school, I’m quirky and have strange habits. I tend to know a lot of useless shit. So yea, I’m A nerd, but definitely not THE nerd.
8. What do James and I do for fun? How do we find the time? What do James and I have in common? Do we drink? Does James drink outside of the videos?
Over the years it’s definitely been hard to find the time to hang out and just have fun together. There is an eb and flow to it though and we’ve gotten used to it at this point. In other words, I know well enough not to bother him about going to see a movie if he’s elbow deep in fake shit. Don’t worry though, we do make the time to enjoy ourselves occasionally. Our classic night out is the typical dinner and a movie. We also love going to shows. As I alluded to, we are both huge hard rock and heavy metal fans. We probably go to a show at least once a month. Next up is the Gigantour with Megadeth and Motorhead. We are both fans of the drink as well. We really enjoy tasting different kinds of beers and wines and learning about how they are made. Good old educational drinking.
9. What was my original reaction to James’ work? How did my parents, friends and family feel about it? Did I know then that he’d be successful?
I saw some of James’ work on our second date. We doubled with Kyle Justin and he made a point to break out some of James’ videos to show me. Of course, one of those videos was “Stony” because Kyle acted in that one. I thought they were funny for sure and his passion for what he was doing was undeniable. I definitely saw that spark in him back then and new it’d take him places. As for my parents, friends, etc. and their reaction… they were pretty used to the crazy shit I was doing so I think it didn’t really phase them much. They are very understanding of artists, and James fit that bill. They love him to this day and we all have a great relationship.
10. What do I do? (professionally/creatively?) What is my style? Why not do the AVGN title cards? Does James support or overshadow this?
I have an undergraduate degree in Illustration and a post bacc certification to teach art Kindergarten – 12th grade. I’ve done some freelance illustration and I taught for 3 years after getting my degree but decided last year to leave my job to work full time for James and Cinemassacre. I handle all the books, scheduling, and paperwork for the business and well as provide production assistance. Basically I wear a lot of hats and help where I’m needed. This keeps me quite busy. My artistic style is illustrative and usually figurative with a surrealist twist. I have not created original artwork in awhile since I’ve been so busy helping with the movie, but it is my goal to get back to creating. At the moment I do not have any artwork available online. I do not do the title cards for the AVGN episodes, they are done by Mike Matei. He has more of an animation style and is more familiar with the gaming subject matter so that’s why he does them. I love Mike’s work and I think he does an amazing job. I did paint the cover for “The Deader the Better” DVD jacket. (Coming Soon) I did it with acrylic on canvas and James has the original hanging in his office. He is very supportive of my artwork and encourages me to get back to it.
11. Do I help with behind the scenes stuff? Filming, props, scenery, sets, etc? Do I plan to continue?
Yea, as I said, I pretty much help where I’m needed. I have a serious work ethic, so I’m always looking to use my talents and strengths to benefit the company. I do not have a proper background in film, but I’ve learned over the years the basics of operating a camera, lights, fog machine, etc so when James needs an extra hand I’m always there to help. I’ve even learned how to edit sound and have helped in that department a few times. I’m also super organized and schedule oriented so I’ve used that strength to help out on the business end of things and all the event scheduling. Occasionally I’m able to use my artistic talents to help the cause as well. I make a mean Styrofoam gravestone and can Photoshop short key with the best of them. I certainly plan to keep helping in any way that I can and continue to learn along the way. I’m just happy to be a part of it in any capacity. Again, more of this type of thing will be covered as I share my stories.
12. My cooking… what do I like to cook? Does James cook? Does he like my cooking? Will I share recipes?
As I said, I haven’t really created traditional art in quite a while, but I feel that my cooking and baking has really been a creative outlet for me recently. I love to cook just about every kind of cuisine and enjoy experimenting. I really jumped on the gourmet cupcake fad. As Stephanie Yuhas mentioned in the comments section, I do make a mean Mountain Dew cupcake. Perhaps I will share the recipe for those (and maybe some others) eventually. James does know how to cook, but I typically take care of it since I enjoy it so much. He and all the guys who work with us love my cooking. I try to make it a point to make a nice meal whenever they are working hard on a shoot. Craft services…yet another one of my many hats.
13. Do I travel with James to conventions and such?
Yes! I love to travel! Thankfully over the past few years I’ve been able to come along to many of the conventions and shoots that James is involved in. I don’t get to go to all of them, but I enjoy the ones I can make it to. Over the past year or so, I’ve actually started to handle the arrangements for James’ convention appearances. This has been a lot of fun and I enjoy the new friendships I’ve formed along the way.
14. What is it like to know other internet celebrities like Doug Walker? Or co-stars in Cinemassacre Productions like Mike Matei and Kyle Justin etc?
Speaking of travelling and new friendships, that’s how I’m able to meet other internet personalities. I’m in awe of how tight knit this “family” is. There really is a sense of respect and community among the majority of them that is really inspiring. I’m happy to list among my friends many of the people you enjoy watching on the web. I’m so happy for all of their success and would jump in traffic for any one of them. I’m sure as I continue to share my stories, more of their names may pop up. Oh and yea, I did tie the tie for Doug. Not very well I might add. I was the best of the worst at it, I suppose.
15. How long is “before the beginning?” When did James and I meet? Get Married? How has marriage effected James’ film-making and acting performances, etc?
James and I met in July of 2004. He had just graduated college, was living with his parents and working a “joe job”. A few months before that he had made what was technically the first AVGN episode, but it was in a closet gathering dust somewhere. His efforts at the time were focused on making “The Deader the Better”. I distinctly remember when the AVGN series started to take off on YouTube and was picked up by ScrewAttack. We were semi-living together at the time (when I wasn’t at college) and we were both really excited. I’ve always been super supportive of James doing whatever it takes to make great videos and to do what he loves doing. Case in point, moving 3000 miles away from home to make the AVGN movie. Some people have alluded to the fact that marriage may have caused James to go soft or get lazy, but this is just factually incorrect. Since I met James, I’ve always encouraged him to make bold decisions to better his career. For example in early 2007, I encouraged James to quit his corporate video job and focus more on the online series. When we were married in November of 2007, I handled all the arrangements so James could continue working on the Dragon’s Lair episode of AVGN (and other projects) up until the day before. In 2008 (our first year of marriage) James would create what he considers two of his “angrier” videos (Dick Tracy and Superman 64). Not to mention, some of the “angriest” episodes of them all, I was directly a part of (that was my hand reaching over the sofa wearing the Freddy Kruger glove). So yea, I’ve been around for a while and our relationship doesn’t affect James’ performance or career in the slightest.
16. Will I be in the movie or in any AVGN episodes? Will I do any guest appearances or acting in any of the videos?
I am not an actor and have no immediate desire to be on camera. That’s never been my cup of tea. I can’t say for sure that I won’t pop up in some of the video blog updates for the movie or even possibly have a small walk-on cameo just for fun, but it will not be a regular thing. I won’t be written into any episodes. I won’t be creating my own video series. My plans as of now are to occasionally share stories about AVGN and Cinemassacre related topics in a written format. That’s it.
17. The cats… what are their names? What are they like?
I’m a sucker for talking about our cats so I will entertain this question. We do not have any human children at the moment, just our two fur-babies so they are definitely spoiled rotten. First is our boy cat named Boo. He is almost 5 years old and is all black with a little white spot on his neck. He is active and sociable. James and I love both of them equally, but Boo is definitely more of my cat. Then there is Yeti. She is almost 4 years old and is all white with an orange and black striped tail and orange spots on her head. She is a little more timid and shy, but makes the cutest gestures. She is definitely more of James’ cat.
18. How do I feel about the crude nature of the videos? The poop, foul language, etc.
I’m a big fan of shock humor and so I love it. If we kept a tally, I might even curse more than James does. I may be the only woman on the planet that loves the word “cunt” and I try to use it on a daily basis. As for the shit and various other bodily fluids that appear in James’ work, it doesn’t really bother me. Whenever he makes fake shit, it perfumes the house with the smell of Reeses peanut butter cups. So that I enjoy.
19. What’s it like being married to James? How is he outside of the videos? Does he get mad? Does he make the same faces? Is he a leader? Is he a neat freak? Is he a handyman? How has he changed socially?
I got all kinds of questions about how James is as a person and a husband. I will definitely go further into depth with this as I continue to share my stories, but if I had to use one word to describe him, it’d be “genuine”. There is not an ounce of fake in the dude. You can believe every word he says, everything he does and everything he says he’ll do. Outside of his videos, he is the kindest, most gentle person. He is pretty much the polar opposite of his AVGN character. As for the specific characteristics that were mentioned… Does he get mad? Of course, everyone does, but never at anyone and certainly not as mean spiritedly as the nerd does. Yes, he makes some of the same faces as the nerd does, specifically that signature frown. Is he a leader? As a director, he is. He’s gotten much better with leading as his business has grown, but is definitely a bit more of a “go with the flow” type guy in regular life. Is he a neat freak? Surprisingly, yes. His games, movies, etc. are all labeled and in perfect order. His files are all impeccable also. I’m the same way though so we definitely compliment each other in that way. Is he a handyman? Not in the conventional carpenter way, but he can wire up an entertainment system like a pro. He’s also handy at building any sort of contraption he might need for a film. How has he changed socially? That’s one of the biggest changes I’ve seen in him. He’s much more at ease around crowds and people. He’s not as shy as he was when I first met him.
20. Do I have any funny stories? Have I ever walked in on any weird, alarming or crazy situations? Did I ever get concerned and have to check on James while he was filming? What is the craziest thing I have ever seen or done because of James’ videos?
As I mentioned in my original post, I have seen some crazy, bazaar and outright genius stuff over the years. This concept will be the basis of the stories I plan to share, so stay tuned. I won’t share any specific stories at the moment, but I will say I’m probably the only wife on the planet that can come home to a sink full of bloody clothing and knives and think nothing of it. I always joke that James could cut his arm off and I’d have no clue. I just tune out the yelling and such at this point so if he ever legitimately needed help, I probably wouldn’t realize it.
21. Does James seek my opinion on scripts, videos, etc? Do I ever disagree? Do I ever think he’s being crazy or too ambitious?
I always say, especially with the AVGN videos, that I’m kind of the control in the whole experiment. Basically, if I think its funny and it works, then it’s going to be a huge hit. It really depends on the project though whether I contribute in the early stages, middles stages or at the end, but I usually see just about everything before it goes live and give my two cents accordingly. I tend to catch things that James mispronounces and things like that. On very rare occasions we have severely differing opinions on things. I’ve been right a few times, but I’m more than happy to be proven wrong. I’m also very aware that James has this mysterious way of making genius out of nothing, so unless I see a glaring problem, I usually just let the master do his thing.
22. What is my favorite AVGN video? What is my favorite video James has ever made? What made me the most proud of James?
Perhaps one day I will post my top 10 favorite AVGN videos or something like that, but for now I’ll just say that my favorite videos James creates always tend to evoke fond memories or have guest appearances by our friends. For instances, I love the Ninja Gaiden episode because I think Kevin Finn’s performance is hilarious. I also love the Dragon in my Dreams documentary video because it’s deeply personal to James. What makes me most proud of James? I’m so impressed with his ability to share his love of movies and filmmaking with the world in such an eloquent and passionate way. For a self-proclaimed “shy guy” he has a way of clearly expressing himself when he needs to. This makes me the most proud of him. Success couldn’t have fallen on a more deserving guy.

Aw, that was actually kinda sweet.
January 20, 2012 at 10:24 am
I’m glad she answered us in this polite way. If I would be mrs. Nerd, I surely would mention the assholes with their retarded questions and remarks.
January 20, 2012 at 6:13 pm
@metalcommand That comment that c-word guy said should be removed. Whether someone thinks the word is awesome or not, it is differnet when the word is directed at you. Good to know that we put that guy in his place.
January 20, 2012 at 10:24 am
” I may be the only woman on the planet that loves the word “cunt” and I try to use it on a daily basis.’You’d feel very much at home here in Australia. It’s thorn in to conversation pretty regularly and even used between friends the same way that words like ‘dude’ and ‘bro’ are (eg. ‘Hey cunt, how was your day?’ ‘Pretty good, hung out with those cunts over there’).Awesome country (cunt-ry…pehehehe)

@Mike-Towns Oy vey… that pun was horrendous! A+
January 20, 2012 at 10:35 am
I would like to see some of your artwork posted on the site. Mike should definitely post some non-AVGN stuff, too.
January 20, 2012 at 10:36 am
It’s official: Mrs. Nerd is fucking awesome.
January 20, 2012 at 10:54 am
LOL, I think it is interesting that she did not even acknowledge all the mean-spirited and disrespectful comments people left on the last post. Especially that dick sucking faggot guy.
January 20, 2012 at 12:40 pm
@tysonatthemovies Technically it’s better to let them go on about their business and ignore them, even if it may be frustrating. “Don’t feed the trolls”, as they say.
January 20, 2012 at 1:43 pm
@Elyjaah That makes sense, don’t give into their hate.
January 20, 2012 at 11:02 am
“I was directly a part of (that was my hand reaching over the sofa wearing the Freddy Kruger glove).”
I can actually dispute you there, Mrs. Rolfe, since Mike Matei made that claim first in the commentary for the “Friday The 13th” episode back in 2007. I also saw quite a few grammatical and punctuation errors, so I find it funny you saying you sometimes have to correct James when you need quite a few corrections yourself. I’m sure people here are going to start throwing things at me for pointing those things out, but hey, I have a right to objective and point things out when I think something isn’t right too. The link below is to prove the dispute over your claim that it’s your hand.

January 20, 2012 at 11:04 am
@TwistedSpeech Well, you may be right……but the sentence ‘so I find it funny you saying you …….corrections yourself’ you wrote, is unnesecesary.
January 20, 2012 at 11:21 am
@TwistedSpeech
MIke says, “he believes that is his hand.” He sounded pretty unsure to me.
January 20, 2012 at 5:46 pm
@Dirk McGee I agree, but then why didn’t James correct him or his wife all those years ago? I’m just pointing out inconsistencies is all.
January 20, 2012 at 11:58 am
@TwistedSpeechYou seem to find no joy in your life, if you cant complain about something do you?
January 20, 2012 at 5:45 pm
@fratzenjeballer You obviously don’t know me. I rarely complain. I found inconsistencies, so I pointed them out. Don’t like it? Well then you know how to ignore me, don’t you?
January 21, 2012 at 6:11 am
@TwistedSpeech Pointing out little gramma mistakes in a post and some “inconsistencies” that are unnecessary to point out is called complaining, like who gives a fuck wich one wore that fucking glow in this short scene in that video? Well let my answer that, the guy thats complains about everything.
January 20, 2012 at 12:47 pm
@TwistedSpeech It was my wife for sure. She wore the Freddy glove that reaches over the couch. Mike wore the glove the rest of the time. Perhaps there was some confusion in how they each explained it. I think Mrs Nerd meant to specify it was the conclusion to the Friday the 13th episode.
January 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm
James, can you ban this ass to the bowels of uranus!
January 20, 2012 at 5:38 pm
@MrBrrumpkins Yes, I’m the ass because I pointed obvious things out.
January 20, 2012 at 1:44 pm
@JamesAVGN@TwistedSpeech Do the Trolls who posted hateful or disrespectful things about you and your wife bother you?
January 20, 2012 at 5:42 pm
@tysonatthemovies How am I being a hateful troll for pointing out obvious flaws and inconsistencies in what people say?
January 20, 2012 at 5:41 pm
@JamesAVGN Okay, then why didn’t you correct him if that’s true? You didn’t say anything, you both just lead us to believe that what Mike said was true. Not to mention the arm attached to that hand is pretty big for a female’s arm. I’m not trying to be a dick, although that may seem to be the case, I’m just finding conflicting stories is all.
January 20, 2012 at 12:56 pm
”I have a right to objective..”oops, either you forgot to put ”be objective”, or you wanted to say ”right to object”…anyways, who gives an ass. You are an idiot. In the video, mike says he believes it is his hand..If you notice the credits, she helped with the camera, so we can say she was there and perhaps that was her hand and mike just forgot. Anyways, who cares, you just made a fool out of yourself. and who cares about the grammatical errors.
January 20, 2012 at 5:44 pm
@MrBrrumpkins Forgot the “be” part. And I care, so there you go.
January 20, 2012 at 7:18 pm
@TwistedSpeech@MrBrrumpkins Ok, ok everybody. Jeez. Is this worth arguing over? Let’s watch some Board James, that’ll put everybody in better spirits.
January 20, 2012 at 11:06 pm
@Big McLargehuge@TwistedSpeech I’m gonna turn up the diarrhea dial and watch some Bible Games, yeah! that’ll get the shit flowing!
January 20, 2012 at 11:06 am
Thanks for your answers! I’m looking forward to your stories
January 20, 2012 at 11:23 am
I’m glad Mr Nerd has Mrs Nerd
January 20, 2012 at 11:36 am
Thanks, Mrs. Nerd, that was really cool. I always had the feeling that James was one of the nicest guys on the planet, it’s great that someone so close to him can confirm it.
January 20, 2012 at 11:37 am
James, you have an awesome life.
January 20, 2012 at 11:54 am
It’s been really fun reading this
I’ve been following James a couple years now and I also feel really proud for what he is doing now, he’s even giving me inspiration to pursue what I really love. It must be fun living with James/Mrs.Nerd, it must not be an ordinary place to live XD
Anyway I can’t wait to watch that movie and I’m going on this website everyday to check if there’s any update, I hope to see more soon!
January 20, 2012 at 11:56 am
Wow! that was very interesting!!, thanks for your answers! =D
January 20, 2012 at 12:04 pm
You guys left JUST in time; the east coast just had this big snow storm last night…
January 20, 2012 at 12:07 pm
i love to think that if one time you would be having dinner with some guests of something. Then when you’d be eating, there would start this screaming from the basement (& cursing). You’re guest would all be like WTF, but then you’d be like “Oh thats just James.. You see he’s working!” . That’d be awesome. Anyways an awesome post & one thing i find really cool is that you like rock and heavy metal. I mean im 13 and i listen to slayer, megadeth, system of the down, Rob Zombie, Motorhead etc. But the thing is that i don”t know any chick who’d listen to rock or heavy metal
closest to that are some emo chicks listening to marilyn manson.. & don’t get me wrong i think marilyn manson is okay, but im no emo. Anyways it’s cool to know that there’s a chick who listens to metal
January 20, 2012 at 12:15 pm
It looks you answer my question in this post. What do you love the most about James? That was a pretty good answer I’m glad James has someone like you supporting him. That’s how I feel about Rebecca who lives over one hundred miles away. I still hope one day I can meet your husband. Honestly if all this wasn’t happening on my end. I would’ve already married her by now living in my basement. I got one of those two in one houses. I actually live close by your state line if you would like to meet up with me in person. James has a very interesting way to get people’s attention lol.
January 20, 2012 at 12:17 pm
Thanks for taking the time to write all of this Mrs Nerd. I enjoyed reading it, and it’s very clear that James has an incredibly awesome life. I don’t think he would be able to do what he does without your support.
January 20, 2012 at 12:23 pm
You guys sound like an awesome team. Being a cat owner too, it’s amazing how much you can talk about them. Boo is awesome!
January 20, 2012 at 12:31 pm
Could you do us a favor? Tell James to pronounce “bury” and “buried” correctly from now on, lol.
January 20, 2012 at 12:36 pm
This was very fun and interesting to read, thank you! Totally looking forward to more posts in the future.
January 20, 2012 at 12:38 pm
Thanks for the post, Mrs. Nerd — looking forward to hearing more from you. Did the cats make the trip with you?
January 20, 2012 at 12:41 pm
@nescashew Yes. Did you miss the road trip video?
January 20, 2012 at 1:49 pm
@Elyjaah I must have missed it. Thanks — I’ll check it out.

Thanks,mrs.Nerd.By the way,you should watch some “Supernatural” i think it’s a great horror series, better than True Blood.Check it out.
January 20, 2012 at 1:10 pm
It’s awesome to hear from the better half of the nerd. I know my wife is supportive of my goals and dreams. t is always good to hear from the person not on camera, but is such a huge part of the overall success of this place. I love that the fact you love the word cunt, James you are definitely a lucky man! Can’t wait to hear from you again.
January 20, 2012 at 1:16 pm
That was sweet and inspirational to read. You’re a good influence on The Nerd and I look forward to your post series!
January 20, 2012 at 1:30 pm
I knew when I saw the “Making Of” AVGN Video that he was organized. With the numbered bins, numbered folders, time codes, console input codes and everything, alphabetical game collection etc… Except for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Throw that piece of shit somewhere under the bed or out the window lol
January 20, 2012 at 1:33 pm
Awesome, can’t wait to hear these “stories”. From seeing all the videos over the years you can tell there’s got to be of ton of them. I wish you two the best of luck in Cali, please don’t change while your there, and can’t wait to see the movie!
January 20, 2012 at 1:36 pm
Thank you Mrs. Nerd! I hope L.A. treats you both well!
January 20, 2012 at 1:37 pm
By the way, I forgot to ask on the last post. Have you and Mr. Nerd ever met Mr. Plinkett from redlettermedia? Besides the Nerd he’s my favorite online personality.
January 20, 2012 at 1:52 pm
This was great; thanks for sharing and can’t wait to read more. You two are a lovely, lucky couple!
January 20, 2012 at 1:57 pm
I commented last time you wrote that I thought your reasoning for writing was a bit offensive and arbitrary (complaining that the site was a ‘Caucasian sausage fest’ and needed diversity – why is there a problem seeing young white males on a site where we expect to see them anyway as they’ve been established for years?), but I said I’d give the benefit of the doubt and will continue to do so as you seem like a good writer and come across as a nice person. Plus, since it was James who requested you to do this in the first place, it’s obviously a direction that HE wants to take and therefore we all owe it to him to go with this.
January 23, 2012 at 12:07 pm
@A Person I think it’s rather offensive that you do not seem to think Mrs Nerd should have as much power and respect than James does. Notice that you capitalize HE as if James is some sort of god that can do anything he want. It was not necessarily a direction that he wanted to take, Mrs Nerd could of refused to do this although it seems that this would anger you because “we all owe it to him to go with this”. I think you are being sexist in this matter and would advise you to mind your own business.
January 20, 2012 at 2:04 pm
LOL the answer to #20 made me laugh. Again, you are well written, Mrs. Nerd! Look forward to those stories. I also can’t help but baaaaawwwww when you talk about how less shy he’s become compared to when you first started dating him.
January 20, 2012 at 2:49 pm
@MarlonPJManalese Me too
January 20, 2012 at 2:07 pm
There’s ‘support’ and then there’s “leave your corporate job and do your nerd website full time” kind of support. Fairly extraordinary, it’s great that you seem to be making such a success of this that it has become full time work for you both.

You did answer about James’ beard. Your idea or his? There are fangirls dying to know!

Hello James!
January 20, 2012 at 2:45 pm
This is such a nice column. I look forward to reading more of these in the future.
January 20, 2012 at 2:49 pm
This was actually a great read!
January 20, 2012 at 2:54 pm
Great article, loved how clear your personality came through in your responses and gave a fuller picture than your first article. Can’t wait to hear about said exploits and adventures and look forward to more content from you Mrs Nerd :3
P.S. I too am a fan of the word “cunt”, profanity lovers unite!
January 20, 2012 at 2:59 pm
@MouseZ I’ve only just noticed the ‘cunt’ comment and my wife likes using it too occasionally. She even has a badge with it written on in bright colours that she bought and dares to wear outside the house. Would probably get some interesting reactions..!
January 20, 2012 at 2:56 pm
I say if time allows do a wifey Wednesday where you talk about what ever cooking top tens music groups tv show (how i met your mother is my fave Gouda!) it’d be like mother fucker Mondays or do a monthly one mid month spouse time or something, your the professionals you’d think of something better
January 20, 2012 at 2:58 pm
What a cool post thank you. My wife and I enjoy the vids and were also a little curious about the “lady behind the nerd” . Very nice of you to speak up and say hi to all the fans
January 20, 2012 at 3:02 pm
James is a “shy guy”, eh? So if he wore a cannon mask, would he become a Snifit?
*gets chased off the computer by a squadron of Beezos*
January 20, 2012 at 7:29 pm
@Prophet Wing Then that means James must have an achilles heel for vegetables and Yoshi eggs.
January 20, 2012 at 3:03 pm
I’m sure James is proud to have you as his wife, for so many reasons.
Mrs. Nerd, you are one in a million… just like James.
January 20, 2012 at 3:04 pm
There is my question for Mrs Nerd (If she ever read this):
Have you and James ever thinked for get childrens? Or do you have?
January 22, 2012 at 7:23 pm
@TH93Fin She says in the section about the cats that they have no human babies, only furry ones.
January 20, 2012 at 3:41 pm
I completely understand that you’ll be writing about AVGN and Cinemassacre behind the scenes but my second question is: Since you’re a movie buff like James would you write reviews or opinions on movies you like for the site? Not now of course but sometime in the future. I for one would love to see your movie perspective. This post has been awesome by the way!
January 20, 2012 at 3:44 pm
funny you bring up the cunt thing, because i don’t think james has ever said it in an avgn episode…almost seems like it wouldnt sound natural though, there are certain swears that just don’t fit the nerd. Luckily for us, hearing james say fuck never seems to get old. Also, he only ever called a game retarded once in the original simons quest vid…I don’t know why i noticed that. k i’m done lol. thanks for the response mrs. nerd, shits fun to read.
January 20, 2012 at 3:54 pm
@TerrifyerX07 Actually he has said cunt, the only one i can think of off the top of my head is superman 64 but he does say it in that. I think it fits. But if he started saying stuff like the n word, that wouldn’t fit.
January 20, 2012 at 4:12 pm
@MotherFucker Mike I knew he said it in others, my mind just hit a blank lol. Also he says it in godzilla? All i remember is him saying scunt (which was censored) also you’re awesome for replying.
January 20, 2012 at 4:27 pm
@cebulips9@MotherFucker Mike He also says it in Zelda II “Cunt Thruster. That should be the the name of a band.”
January 20, 2012 at 4:29 pm
@cebulips9@MotherFucker Mike He also says it in Zelda II “Cunt Thrust. That should be the the name of a band.”
January 20, 2012 at 9:38 pm
@MotherFucker Mike@cebulips9@TerrifyerX07
Also in the NES accesories where he is shouting “Fire! Fire! Fire!” “You can say anything! Fuck! Bitch! Cunt!”
January 21, 2012 at 11:52 am
@Dreamcast@MotherFucker Mike@cebulips9 well…i stand corrected lol. i remember the cunt thrust comment now, but the others even after you guys mentioned them i don’t recall…weird man, i’ve seen this shit a million times and could probably quote a handful of them pretty verbatim. i guess to me at least cunt’s not a curse i associate with nerd rants, i dont know why.
January 20, 2012 at 3:56 pm
Woah! Big text. Didn’t read it all, but I will do it in another time. Anyway, congratulations on your marriage! I hope you have lots of little nerdies to review old (actual) videogames in a near future and make movies about it!
January 20, 2012 at 4:02 pm
D’awwwwwww!
January 20, 2012 at 4:17 pm
What a lucky man James is – an attractive woman who enjoys Heavy Metal, drinking, movies, and swearing.
January 20, 2012 at 5:30 pm

You never caught James’s continual mispronunciations of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. He always says [noter-dame] like the college. The correct way is [notruh-dahm].
January 20, 2012 at 7:00 pm
I’m a woman and I like the word cunt
I tend to use it several times daily, it’s a good word!
January 20, 2012 at 7:15 pm
Thanks for this honest answers, I never asked you a question, but I appreciate this post a lot and had a good time reading it. It got this whole cinemassacre-”thing” and AVGN-”thing” even more connected to me. Best Regards and thanks for everything from Germany
PS: Mistakes are the finder’s loot, cause it’s terrebly late as I write this.
January 20, 2012 at 7:25 pm
I’ve always wondered about many of these issues. I’m happy for you two (and kind of jealous lol). James seems like such a cool, nerdy guy to hang out with, and you seem like the ultimate nerdy girl. Oh, and tell James that he picked a good picture for your last post. I was kind of surprised at it. You look really hot while James is making this face that’s like “Yeah, she’s mine. I’m so badass.”
January 20, 2012 at 7:27 pm
look forward to vids from you, thanks alot
January 20, 2012 at 7:50 pm
Holy shit, you gave us quite a bit of info, which is great, so thanks for that! I enjoyed reading the whole thing. Looking forward to the next post.
I’m very happy for James, he truly deserves someone like you: intelligent, 100% supportive (a rare trait), funny and hot. Yeah… I wanted to make you blush
BTW, the cunt thing was totally random and unexpected. LOL

@FrizzleFry Oh hey, I used to be part of a forum that had a FrizzleFry on it.. May not be you but I thought I’d check haha.

With a great taste in music.

Now that you guys are in LA you need to make sure you go and see Steel Panther. If you look them up on Ticketmaster or LiveNation you are guaranteed to find some shows. By the way, I am not posting an advertisement or anything, Steel Panther is hands down one of the funniest damn heavy metal bands I have ever heard in my life.
January 20, 2012 at 8:43 pm
@Dr Bigs Kimble
I second that on Steel Panther. They are awesome!
January 20, 2012 at 8:01 pm
Thank you for getting back to us with answers. I myself and I’m sure some other people weren’t expecting anything right away sense we were all aware of your guys cross country move. I’m glad you addressed the whole “pissed off picture thing”, it seemed like there was quite a few comments on that. Anyways I’d just like to say welcome to California, glad your guys trip went ok, and I can’t wait to hear more news an updates about the Movie.
January 20, 2012 at 8:35 pm
WOW! A huge THANK YOU to you, April for the right and supportive influence on James and AVGN show in general.
