Excellent video, well done. Having driven across the country twice, I can totally relate to the mood. When you guys come back, you should take the northern route for some different scenery, I think you’ll be impressed, especially through the rockies coming back down to the plains.

Great video James, I hope you keep up with these because they’re really interesting. When my cat goes in the car with us he usually spends the first two hours constantly yowling (is that the word for it? when they say meow) Does your cats do that James?

  • JaredTrujillo

    January 18, 2012 at 6:06 am

Hey James! Great video. I’m excited for the movie. By the way, I live in Albuquerque. We get our fair share of snow throughout the winter! New Mexico is a beautiful place, and more than just desert. Happy filming and good luck!

Road trips a pretty fun, its the way back that sucks, my mom would pack the car up with so much shit she got from grandmas house that wqe wind upo sitting uncomfortably on top of things. I remember one time my bro had to ride in the trunk ( don’;t worry we rented a van so technically it was the back seat.). ahhh good times.

I can’t wait for the feature film James!

I salute you, sir. It takes a pair to blitz the country like that. My husband and I drove from FL to CA in 3 days last summer, and we also stopped in Santa Rosa! You came in the same way we did (Via I-40), though we started on I-10. Texas is about 500 miles of NOTHING.

I think the weirdest part about driving that far is when you finally turn the car off on that last day at your destination. You sort of look at each other like “Whew. Wow, we don’t have to get up tomorrow to drive.”

Glad you got here safe, man. Welcome to Sunny CA!

  • TommyO'Neil

    January 18, 2012 at 12:50 pm

I remember going to California back when I was like 8, and we went on this beach, and I found a weird little cave with a skull drawing on the wall. Ever since then, I called the beach “Skull Island”. Even though it’s not really an island. XDBe sure to check out Skull Island while you’re there, if you happen to stumble across it….. xD

    why not flying

    • Spoongoonkay

      January 18, 2012 at 1:57 pm

@onraj9mm Most likely because he packed a TON of stuff, and you can’t take those things with you on a plane. He could have probably taken a plane and have his stuff sent to him later on, but its less of a hassle to just drive and already have your stuff available to you.

Finally you’re guys are in California! ๐Ÿ˜€ And snow in fucking New Mexico? That is friggen’ awesome!

Time to make da movie! By the way, if it’s a road trip movie you should use that Angry Video Game Nerd title stand to be in the window of a car or on a desk, and then the camera sweeps over your head or something and sweeps over the title plus a note just in front of it saying something about MOVIE. Or something ๐Ÿ˜€ Practical title effects can be very effective, even though they’re very simple!

Was cool seeing your roadtrip. I’ve been thinking about driving from CA to see my sister in FL just for the hell of it. I drive like you… balls out!… no stopping unless it’s to rest or eat. I do hope to maybe do some sightseeing on the way, but 5 days? Yeah, guess I’d have to just drive. That’s okay though. I love to drive. That was a cool cat cage your cats had. I didn’t know cats liked the driving experience. Can’t wait to see your movie. Take care man.

Mike shut down this website today!

    This bill applies to you!

    • Aedan132

      January 18, 2012 at 3:48 pm

@bioject Man, this site isn’t big enough for James or Mike to shut it down for the day. I’m sure the government’s really going to take note of Cinemassacre, right? Cinemassacre, no matter how awesome it is, doesn’t matter to the government. The probably don’t even know what the fuck it is.

So, no, there’s no real need. We already know that they don’t support it as it’ll kill Cinemassacre, so they don’t really need to do much.

      • GalileoAcosta

        January 18, 2012 at 3:51 pm

@[email protected] is not up to the government tho, if the bills pass some douchebag that owns some share of videogame footage can do it.

      • Gath

        January 18, 2012 at 3:59 pm

@Aedan132 that’s the kind of thinking that will get SOPA and PIPA passed. Even if you’ve contacted your representatives and they’re opposed to it, you can still spread the word to others. Until they’re gone for good, we all need to continue band together and protect the internet!

      • OfficialJab

        January 18, 2012 at 6:16 pm

Sites like this receive tens-of-thousands of hits a day. If every one of those who are Americans contacted their congressmen think of the impact. A simple image on the main page to inform fans that their favourite site could be ruined forever would get support.

The government may not care about it, or know what it is now, but they will once it’s on the chopping block.

  • DaydevilDanna

    January 18, 2012 at 3:55 pm

Wow, OMG, that’s exactly what I always dreamed. Visit the whole USA, state by state, for months maybe years. That’s my number 1 dream. The reason I’m trying to win the lottery every week. If I get the millions, I’d take my car and do the same you just did (only I’d visit a lot) and film the whole trip to make my own website.

But no, I’m stuck in this fucking boring Belgium without money. Even the cats are luckier than me. Maybe someday this dream will become true, I’ll never surrender.

Thanks a lot for sharing your trip.

Glad to hear your nerdyness made it alive, I drove from Mississippi to California to come back home and it blew ass, there is nothing to see on I40, Since your in LA you should go to Universal Studio’s Hollywood and do a little video on that shiz!

At The Drive-In, De Facto, Sparta, The Mars Volta, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Los Lonely Boys, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson, Beyonce, Neon Indian, Dead Bang Go (my old band), and many other great bands have come from Texas.

        @hunter yes that’s true!

    • January 18, 2012 at 5:30 pm

@jimasssss ๐Ÿ™‚ And in swedish “sopa” means “thrash” and “pipa” means “whistle”.

      • jimasssss

        January 18, 2012 at 5:57 pm

@Rommelpot thrash or trash? I said that about sopa and pipa just because i thought that they didn’t choose the words by coincidence, specially sopa which can translate to silence-censhorship.

      • Fluteloop

        January 21, 2012 at 6:17 pm

@jimasssss @Rommelpot In Spanish and in Gallego SOPA = Soup and PIPA = Pipe.

    • jimasssss

      January 18, 2012 at 6:02 pm

@startrekalien it also means pipe in greek but it has a double meaning, haha.

  • Big McLargehuge

    January 18, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Hey James,I’m glad to hear you guys made it to California alright.

On a side note, have you ever seen a movie called “Cloak & Dagger”? It was about a kid who gets a hold of an Atari cartridge that has like government secrets or something embedded into it and he becomes a target of agents trying to kill him get it back. He also has an imaginary friend who helps him along the way, but the movie was a lot darker than it sounds.

Just thought that might interest you if you’ve never seen it.

    • sterling.treadwell

      January 18, 2012 at 6:34 pm

@Big McLargehuge Great movie, one of my top fave’s as a KID. How many other movies of that time merged hollywood and Video Gaming into a great action spy thriller for kids? I need ot check that out again.. would be interesting to see how well it holds up. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Big McLargehuge

        January 18, 2012 at 7:06 pm

@sterling.treadwell I haven’t seen it since I was a kid either, it just popped into my head when James was talking about the ET cartridge in the video (Henry Thomas is in C&D as well).

I’m watching it right now (Amazon OD), and it’s pretty cool so far. Very 80s. William Forsythe is in it and is almost unrecognizable.

  • OfficialJab

    January 18, 2012 at 5:55 pm

Not that I’m complaining, because this was a great video unrelated to the fight, but a site like this operating almost entirely from copyrighted content including game and movie footage really ought to have some SOPA-awareness material up today.

Not that you’re obligated to be against it, but they will likely target your site by forbidding advertisers to give you money, forbidding Paypal to let fans transfer you money, or forcing you out of your partnerships with Youtube, Screwattack, Gametrailers or Spike. Without much effort they could ruin your carer in a day.

At least warrants a link or a banner or something, I’d say.

    • Madd_Dawg

      January 18, 2012 at 8:11 pm

@OfficialJab He actually was raising awareness back in mid-December about it. Thats how I even found out and I would see he helped start to get the “ball rolling” persay in terms of getting it out there to the public.

      • OfficialJab

        January 19, 2012 at 4:00 am

That’s just it, awareness is key. Fortunately today wasn’t any kind of deadline or anything, so his post just now will still do a good job, and it was very personal and inspiring.

However, even Wikipedia which isn’t even threatened persay, went black. The point is saying ‘This is what the internet will look like in a few months if you don’t help”, and review-based sites like this will be ground zero. The fans of this site, particularly those in America who can act, need to know to pester their state offices until they back down from it.

He was away though, so I don’t blame him. But I’d still recommend that he do it one day. Every site should be doing it periodically until the voting occurs. One day isn’t enough.

  • sterling.treadwell

    January 18, 2012 at 6:36 pm

Congrats on the successfuly survive of a lengthy 5 day trip with 2 cats. I did a road trip from upstate NY through Missouri to Arizona over a few days when I moved out there a few years back, then drove back with one of our cats in my car from AZ to NY again and.. it wasn’t an easy drive. You have a lot of Stamina to be that awake and energetic after so much monotony. It’s a hell of a drive…

Did you like seeing sand dunes at the az/ca border? pretty wild after miles and miles of unremarable Arizona(I noticed you sort of skipped past it in your commentary.. lol).

Yeah, road trips can be boring. Lucky we have the technologie of Laptops and Mobile phones with computers in them to keep us preoccupied. And the cats sure got to see some pretty neat stuff. Hope no one fell off during any crazy turns.

And here’s a thought. If you ever get some time off during your stay (or on your way back), maybe you could do a little exploring or filming of New Mexico just so you can sort of blend in the actuall site, or recreate it as authentic as possible.

Though I’m just curious, how much editing do you do on the iPhone/Laptop/whatever you have with you, and how much do you leave for Mike to edit? Maybe a question for your “mailbag” when you get back.

Anyways, I wish you well on your journey through this wonderful movie making experience. Love everything you do. ๐Ÿ˜€

Where I’m from, “call it a day” means to commit suicide, to piss, vomit, and defecate all over yourself, and to ruin all your chances of ever becoming a successful man. James, please do not “call it a day” in this sense! I believe in you and your movie. Many successes to you.

You guys were wise to take the I-40 route. I-10 is usually much busier and can be super windy. It’s not unusual for it to snow in northern Arizona or New Mexico in the winter. Flagstaff AZ is known for that kind of weather. I also just moved to Cali 3 days ago. Traffic is crazy, and the air is stinky, but Cali is a warm and beautiful place. Hope the movie process goes smoothly for you James. Can’t wait to see it.

hey James;] I really must write this – i’m wondering what would You say doing trip across Europe and went to Poland. shitty roads, no sun at all, and if I could have such a “winter” as I saw in movie it would be best winter ever;] anyway great movie as always;] cheers

    • Big McLargehuge

      January 19, 2012 at 5:54 pm

@poncho Europe sounds a lot like the Canadian Maritimes weather wise. We get about two days of sun per year if we’re lucky. More snow than you would ever want (actually this year isn’t too bad for snow) and -40 temperatures and more potholes than actual roads.

      • JJJMMM1

        January 22, 2012 at 5:35 am

        @Big [email protected]

Well, Europe is a pretty big place, so it really depends on what you mean by “Europe”. Climates range from “a bit like Mexico” to “a bit like Alaska” and the same goes for sunny hours per day. Differences between infrastructures and cultures between the 50 countries are even bigger. Poland is one of the not-so-wealthy countries and while I haven’t been there, I wouldn’t be surprised if all of the roads are not in prime condition.

Just out of curiosity, what route did you take?

Just started following the movie a little. I know you just about got the financing situation just about out of the way and I’m a few months late to that party, but one thing I think you may want to consider if you haven’t already is contacting Rolling Rock (I think that’s the beer you drink) and try to get a bit of product placement money, since I’m sure the beer will be in the movie anyway. Even if you can finish the money off of fan donations, you can use the surplus as seed money for future projects.

Of course, without knowing much about your personal life, I suspect you studied TCOM at collage like me, so chances are the idea already came to mind for you.

You should include these videos in the future DVD of the film. Have you hired someone to do a documentary or making of? I think someone like you should include something like that! It would be great!

Hi James! Greetings Ms. Nerd! I’d like to congratulate you on your cross country journey. I’m happy for you both and very glad to see you made it safe and sound. Your cats had quite the scenic and cozy trip. And while hearing about and seeing the photos of your lovely cats, I could not help but think of how much better our world would be if we always treated animals with as much care and affection as you clearly treat those conscious colorful cats of yours. As a person who’s long been affected by the way modern animal farming practices abuse, distress and disregard the suffering of animals, I would encourage you, James, and Ms. Nerd, as well as ALL AVGN viewers, even you, MOFO Mike, to try to incorporate more vegetarian meals into your diets… It will make you feel healthy and glad that you’ve done your part to reduce the suffering that animals face daily. If you eat green often enough, you’ll eventually spare a few animals from having to live the incredibly deparaved and painful lives that are the standard in modern intensive farming. Our diet, like our politics, is an expression of the world we want to live in. Do we want a world where animals and their suffering are treated with respect or one where greater and greater slaughterhouses are constructed to manage ever more intensive and abusive treatment of conscious suffering animals. In the end, eating a pig or a cow or any higher mammal, is not all that different from eating a cat or a dog. For a brighter future for everyone, man and animal, let’s all make an effort to *at least occasionally* eat green! Its amazing how much good we can do for ourselves, for the enviornment, for animals, and for the world, simply by changing what we *choose* to eat. Here’s wishing you every success in LA! Your fan, Jamie.

How cool would it be if FreddieW helped in James’ movie (effects / acting role) and if James was a teacher in Freddie’s VGHS series? I mean… James is looking for people to do effects for him in the Los Angeles area… Freddie is in Los Angeles, and both James and Freddie share a lot of the same fans. I really hope they both at least do a cameo in each others big projects!

    • Archerofyail

      January 25, 2012 at 1:08 am

Nice little road trip video! That’s a shame you couldn’t stop anywhere. It’s been a while since I took some really long road trips. They can be good and bad for various reasons.

You went through Texas, but just the panhandle. Hmm, not even sure if I have been to that part of it, actually. Thanks for the update, in any case!

And yeah, you’ll be hard-pressed to see Hawaii and Alaska license plates!

“Only steers and queers come from Texas ” as gunny would say ! (full metal jacket )

And i hate I.R.T and the related shit with a passion ! I see the adds for that shit a 1000 times a day and it makes me sick to my stomach ! Every time i come across yet another one i have a fit off depression and want to kill myself ! And i have to take another Prozac just to calm down again !

I would love to be bored for 5 day’s driving through the U.S.A , that would be awesome ! ( i live in Europe ) It is kind of a dream of mine to ride a bike on road 66 and tour the states . The easy rider thing …..

And i would if it didn’t cost an arm and a leg to do . I don’t make that kind of money that i can afford that any time soon . Probably never ……

And i am in my 40’s now so it’s getting less likely by the day …….

But this was a nice preview of that , and i wish you all the luck in the world James .
