Excellent video, well done. Having driven across the country twice, I can totally relate to the mood. When you guys come back, you should take the northern route for some different scenery, I think you’ll be impressed, especially through the rockies coming back down to the plains.
Last year I did a cross country trip from Delaware to San Diego (so not too far from your trip) and I spent the night in Knoxville, TN; Little Rock, AR; Odessa, TX; and Tucson, AZ.
Great video James, I hope you keep up with these because they’re really interesting. When my cat goes in the car with us he usually spends the first two hours constantly yowling (is that the word for it? when they say meow) Does your cats do that James?
Hey James! Great video. I’m excited for the movie. By the way, I live in Albuquerque. We get our fair share of snow throughout the winter! New Mexico is a beautiful place, and more than just desert. Happy filming and good luck!
@Shadow Cheetahs@JeremyJones Yeah, but you just know there’ll be like 50 of these! ;D And I love them too!

Road trips a pretty fun, its the way back that sucks, my mom would pack the car up with so much shit she got from grandmas house that wqe wind upo sitting uncomfortably on top of things. I remember one time my bro had to ride in the trunk ( don’;t worry we rented a van so technically it was the back seat.). ahhh good times.
I love road trip movies. I love road trips. My favorite part of the country is the southwest, in the desert. It’s just beautiful to look at, sunrise, sunset, middle of the night with all the stars out, its just gorgeous.
I salute you, sir. It takes a pair to blitz the country like that. My husband and I drove from FL to CA in 3 days last summer, and we also stopped in Santa Rosa! You came in the same way we did (Via I-40), though we started on I-10. Texas is about 500 miles of NOTHING.
I think the weirdest part about driving that far is when you finally turn the car off on that last day at your destination. You sort of look at each other like “Whew. Wow, we don’t have to get up tomorrow to drive.”
I remember going to California back when I was like 8, and we went on this beach, and I found a weird little cave with a skull drawing on the wall. Ever since then, I called the beach “Skull Island”. Even though it’s not really an island. XDBe sure to check out Skull Island while you’re there, if you happen to stumble across it….. xD
Be careful with the cats, because cats can feel odd at new places. They say cats bind more to places than to persons so keep an eye on the cats, don’t let them out or anything…
Welcome to Southern California James! Hope you and your crew like the weather here in the west and good luck on your filming. Looking forward to seeing the end result of your hard work!
YOUR IN CALIFORNIA!!!! THE GREATEST STATE OF ALL TIME!!!! I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (ORANGE COUNTY, I WAS ALSO BORN HERE)!!!!!!! CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@onraj9mm Most likely because he packed a TON of stuff, and you can’t take those things with you on a plane. He could have probably taken a plane and have his stuff sent to him later on, but its less of a hassle to just drive and already have your stuff available to you.
Plus it’s too expensive, plus he probably did’nt want to get molested by the TSA’s XD

I really enjoyed driving across the country when I moved out here. I did it alone tho, which tends to be easier since you only have to worry about yourself.
Finally you’re guys are in California! And snow in fucking New Mexico? That is friggen’ awesome!
Time to make da movie! By the way, if it’s a road trip movie you should use that Angry Video Game Nerd title stand to be in the window of a car or on a desk, and then the camera sweeps over your head or something and sweeps over the title plus a note just in front of it saying something about MOVIE. Or something Practical title effects can be very effective, even though they’re very simple!
My Cat mews whenever I leave him in the cage in the car but when I let him out, he always stands ontop of the seat and uses the door handle to lift himself up so he can look out the window.
Was cool seeing your roadtrip. I’ve been thinking about driving from CA to see my sister in FL just for the hell of it. I drive like you… balls out!… no stopping unless it’s to rest or eat. I do hope to maybe do some sightseeing on the way, but 5 days? Yeah, guess I’d have to just drive. That’s okay though. I love to drive. That was a cool cat cage your cats had. I didn’t know cats liked the driving experience. Can’t wait to see your movie. Take care man.
Glad you guys made it safe and all that and so forth. Stock the fridge with some rolling rock, mix up some shit batches, and take a big sloppy bite into that movie bro, we’re all dying to blast our hard earned clams at ya and see this masterpiece. Oh and i love the nerd logs man, shit gets me all pumped for the movie…reminds me of reading about a game back in the day and getting all excited over it, cept hopefully the movie won’t suck like half of those games did ha.
Watch your cats with the balcony. Event if you think it’s okay…..there’s always something to try to catch… A lot of friends of mine lost their cat that way…..
@bioject Man, this site isn’t big enough for James or Mike to shut it down for the day. I’m sure the government’s really going to take note of Cinemassacre, right? Cinemassacre, no matter how awesome it is, doesn’t matter to the government. The probably don’t even know what the fuck it is.
So, no, there’s no real need. We already know that they don’t support it as it’ll kill Cinemassacre, so they don’t really need to do much.
@Aedan132@bioject is not up to the government tho, if the bills pass some douchebag that owns some share of videogame footage can do it.

@Aedan132 that’s the kind of thinking that will get SOPA and PIPA passed. Even if you’ve contacted your representatives and they’re opposed to it, you can still spread the word to others. Until they’re gone for good, we all need to continue band together and protect the internet!

Sites like this receive tens-of-thousands of hits a day. If every one of those who are Americans contacted their congressmen think of the impact. A simple image on the main page to inform fans that their favourite site could be ruined forever would get support.
The government may not care about it, or know what it is now, but they will once it’s on the chopping block.

Wow, OMG, that’s exactly what I always dreamed. Visit the whole USA, state by state, for months maybe years. That’s my number 1 dream. The reason I’m trying to win the lottery every week. If I get the millions, I’d take my car and do the same you just did (only I’d visit a lot) and film the whole trip to make my own website.
But no, I’m stuck in this fucking boring Belgium without money. Even the cats are luckier than me. Maybe someday this dream will become true, I’ll never surrender.
Glad to hear your nerdyness made it alive, I drove from Mississippi to California to come back home and it blew ass, there is nothing to see on I40, Since your in LA you should go to Universal Studio’s Hollywood and do a little video on that shiz!
At The Drive-In, De Facto, Sparta, The Mars Volta, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Los Lonely Boys, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson, Beyonce, Neon Indian, Dead Bang Go (my old band), and many other great bands have come from Texas.
I thought you were flying out to California though, James?
It’s great to see james living his dream of creating and directing a movie, keep up the good work james and mike.Just a fun fact for you all in case you don’t know it.Do you know to what sopa and pipa translate as words in greek?
Sopa means don’t talk-shut the fuck up and pipa means blowjob!!

@startrekalien it also means pipe in greek but it has a double meaning, haha.
@undertaker91 I was under the impression Mrs. Rolfe was staying back home and Mike was going to be running the website from his place and just assumed the cats would be cared for D:
Thanks for sharing this. I’m sure you guys are tired physically and mentally – and I’m sure it takes an effort to get the footage to Mike to post… So thanks for taking the time to share this with your fans. I hope you keep it up as your movie is being made.
Hey James,I’m glad to hear you guys made it to California alright.
On a side note, have you ever seen a movie called “Cloak & Dagger”? It was about a kid who gets a hold of an Atari cartridge that has like government secrets or something embedded into it and he becomes a target of agents trying to kill him get it back. He also has an imaginary friend who helps him along the way, but the movie was a lot darker than it sounds.
Just thought that might interest you if you’ve never seen it.
@Big McLargehuge Great movie, one of my top fave’s as a KID. How many other movies of that time merged hollywood and Video Gaming into a great action spy thriller for kids? I need ot check that out again.. would be interesting to see how well it holds up.
@sterling.treadwell I haven’t seen it since I was a kid either, it just popped into my head when James was talking about the ET cartridge in the video (Henry Thomas is in C&D as well).
I’m watching it right now (Amazon OD), and it’s pretty cool so far. Very 80s. William Forsythe is in it and is almost unrecognizable.

Nice to see you make it out there ok. i like how your wife made it a good trip for the cats, ill keep it in mind if i ever need to take my cat any long distance
Not that I’m complaining, because this was a great video unrelated to the fight, but a site like this operating almost entirely from copyrighted content including game and movie footage really ought to have some SOPA-awareness material up today.
Not that you’re obligated to be against it, but they will likely target your site by forbidding advertisers to give you money, forbidding Paypal to let fans transfer you money, or forcing you out of your partnerships with Youtube, Screwattack, Gametrailers or Spike. Without much effort they could ruin your carer in a day.
At least warrants a link or a banner or something, I’d say.
@OfficialJab He actually was raising awareness back in mid-December about it. Thats how I even found out and I would see he helped start to get the “ball rolling” persay in terms of getting it out there to the public.
That’s just it, awareness is key. Fortunately today wasn’t any kind of deadline or anything, so his post just now will still do a good job, and it was very personal and inspiring.
However, even Wikipedia which isn’t even threatened persay, went black. The point is saying ‘This is what the internet will look like in a few months if you don’t help”, and review-based sites like this will be ground zero. The fans of this site, particularly those in America who can act, need to know to pester their state offices until they back down from it.
He was away though, so I don’t blame him. But I’d still recommend that he do it one day. Every site should be doing it periodically until the voting occurs. One day isn’t enough.

Thanks for posting these videos James! It’s so cool to see what you are up to in the beginning phases of this film. We are all behind you 100% keep it up buddy.
I’m a bit jealous of your road trip, me being as much a car nerd as a video game nerd. How nerdy? I recognized your Toyota Matrix from the contour of the side view mirror. Good Luck James.
Congrats on the successfuly survive of a lengthy 5 day trip with 2 cats. I did a road trip from upstate NY through Missouri to Arizona over a few days when I moved out there a few years back, then drove back with one of our cats in my car from AZ to NY again and.. it wasn’t an easy drive. You have a lot of Stamina to be that awake and energetic after so much monotony. It’s a hell of a drive…
Did you like seeing sand dunes at the az/ca border? pretty wild after miles and miles of unremarable Arizona(I noticed you sort of skipped past it in your commentary.. lol).

So how come James took the cats?
January 18, 2012 at 5:41 pm
@mightypoo64 would you leave your pets behind if you were moving across the country?
January 18, 2012 at 11:56 pm
@undertaker91 I was under the impression Mrs. Rolfe was staying back home and Mike was going to be running the website from his place and just assumed the cats would be cared for D:
Anyway best of luck James!!! ^_^

Thanks for sharing this. I’m sure you guys are tired physically and mentally – and I’m sure it takes an effort to get the footage to Mike to post… So thanks for taking the time to share this with your fans. I hope you keep it up as your movie is being made.

How nice
January 18, 2012 at 5:34 pm

January 18, 2012 at 7:06 pm
@sterling.treadwell I haven’t seen it since I was a kid either, it just popped into my head when James was talking about the ET cartridge in the video (Henry Thomas is in C&D as well).
I’m watching it right now (Amazon OD), and it’s pretty cool so far. Very 80s. William Forsythe is in it and is almost unrecognizable.

Nice to see you make it out there ok. i like how your wife made it a good trip for the cats, ill keep it in mind if i ever need to take my cat any long distance
January 18, 2012 at 5:44 pm
Wow. I thought my 12 hour train ride between school and home was rough. At least I had every AVGN DVD to pass the time.
January 18, 2012 at 5:55 pm
Not that I’m complaining, because this was a great video unrelated to the fight, but a site like this operating almost entirely from copyrighted content including game and movie footage really ought to have some SOPA-awareness material up today.
Not that you’re obligated to be against it, but they will likely target your site by forbidding advertisers to give you money, forbidding Paypal to let fans transfer you money, or forcing you out of your partnerships with Youtube, Screwattack, Gametrailers or Spike. Without much effort they could ruin your carer in a day.
At least warrants a link or a banner or something, I’d say.

@OfficialJab
January 18, 2012 at 8:11 pm
@OfficialJab He actually was raising awareness back in mid-December about it. Thats how I even found out and I would see he helped start to get the “ball rolling” persay in terms of getting it out there to the public.
January 19, 2012 at 4:00 am
@Madd_Dawg

January 18, 2012 at 6:18 pm
Cool! I went through that same route in Arizona/NewMexico to get to California/Colorado too!
January 18, 2012 at 6:30 pm

Did you like seeing sand dunes at the az/ca border? pretty wild after miles and miles of unremarable Arizona(I noticed you sort of skipped past it in your commentary.. lol).
