When did James ever do a AVGN about the Neo Geo?Is it on one of the DVD Exculisve?

    • Shahal

      January 14, 2012 at 7:32 am

@kuksoolwon I was wondering this myself. I’m pretty sure I’ve watched every episode on this website and there’s quite a bit of footage from many of the episode’s intros that I’ve not seen.

      • Olivania

        January 14, 2012 at 9:45 am

He answered that question on the recent Q&A. He mentioned that he sometimes shoots scenes for the intro only and the Neo Geo game on the scales was one of those scenes.

I came. Also, I’m curious what the movie’s going to use? IRL orchestration? Because I’m getting sick of the FL MIDI one he’s been using…

  • MarkCanner

    January 14, 2012 at 6:47 am

Awesome, AVGN is my hero. Kyle Justin should always be the music guy for the theme, that’s how it’s always been since it began.

    WHEN DOES IT END.

I love you James but this is sooo bad. It sounds like a Basshunter song, and that’s about as low as it goes.

    • AnKun

      January 14, 2012 at 9:07 am

@Solobear We love this song not for it melodical/musical value, but for the idea.

    • Superdavis

      January 14, 2012 at 9:51 am

      @tehx3n

It was the intro for the Superman 64 review a while ago.

  • CKent

    January 14, 2012 at 7:57 am

You ever gonna show us that Neo Geo AES review? It shows up in the opening every once in a while, but I’m pretty sure it’s not in any of the episodes.

I guess maybe you recorded it and decided not to make it into an episode for whatever reason, but then you probably shouldn’t use it for the opening either since it just makes people curious. I know I’m not the first person to ask about it.

    • RossKing

      January 14, 2012 at 9:10 am

@CKent Some parts were shot just for intros, they aren’t from ‘deleted’ episodes. This point was addressed in the Q&A recently.

  • MrGAWG

    January 14, 2012 at 9:59 am

Yep, it’s the one on Vol 2. I love the original theme but when I heard this version for the first time I felt elated lol. Ended up just looping it ad nauseum :D

  • nitroAngus23

    January 14, 2012 at 10:08 am

James should release a compilation CD of his favorite versions of the theme song. (Including the original, we know there are dozens of covers around)

Would be a great companion to the AVGN Movie, maybe even a bonus disc with the AVGN soundtrack if one should happen :D

    lol

It’s awesome how many styles the theme has been covered in, love them all.

    January 14, 2012 at 10:46 am

Does anyone remember in which episode we could hear a medley of remixes? I can’t find it but it was awesome!

    • January 14, 2012 at 12:32 pm

@winz R U talking about all those fan made versions of the song? I remember like the Sega CD episode? No, wait that had the complete intro… let’s see… Maybe Spiderman? No that had fanart… Oh yes of course it was Super Mario Bros. 3 & The Wizard!

      • winz

        January 14, 2012 at 12:52 pm

@Freddy Fiorentino Yeah, that’s it! Thank you man, love you! I searched it for so long.

  • benjam622

    January 14, 2012 at 11:03 am

So psyched. This was my most favorite remix of the theme. (i always really like the harmonies in the refrain, and the fact that they went to the minor chord towards the end.) it gives the song a much better hook. Plus the original version had no bass guitar part which always drove me nuts. James this version is great. REALLY LONG, but i’m assuming it needs to be to squeeze the whole song in. LOVE the additional lyrics. Well done.

@Dampbobsnekant at least I don’t know about it, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss any of the AVGN episodes…eventually we’ll see a review of the neo geo by avgn, I guess ^^

    • Mister Buckethead

      January 14, 2012 at 8:55 pm

@Dampbobsnekant In the last Q&A video, he clearly explained that a lot of intro cuts were shot specially for the intro, and are no part of a future AVGN episode ( this concerns the Neo Geo bit too )

      • THB306

        January 15, 2012 at 3:02 am

Wow… really? So there isn’t a Neo-Geo episode? That sucks… That fucking sucks. That so fucking sucks it fucks, and should seriously be an episode. That whole weighing the cartridge thing makes me laugh every time!

  • Antony

Anyone having trouble with the video, if you use adblocking via your hosts file (windows), it could be what is causing issues on the site.

    • KyleDePaul

      January 15, 2012 at 12:35 pm

I had trouble before i got adblocker plus it stops the problem because the problem is the ads so if you dont get ads you cant get problem @Antony

      • Antony

        January 15, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I personally had troubles with adblocking with hosts. The ad file could not be retrieved so the player throws an error instead of continuing with the video (as most players would do.) I do fine with allowing ads in the video.

        January 15, 2012 at 12:47 pm

  • NeilRayne

    January 15, 2012 at 2:55 pm

Sorry but this sucked, more standard club pc mixed autotune blandness.

The original was better, although it does still need some work, like resinging.

AVGN is awsome and this into just makes you out to be another bedroom dj wannabe with absolutley no creativity (or ability to sing)

  • NeilRayne

    January 15, 2012 at 2:56 pm

I should add the video side was good, my above comment was to the music only

@NeilRayne It didn’t suck. I wasn’t totally pleased with it either, but please. I thought it was a bit much. However, any piece of music can be picked to death, re-mixed, and over analyzed. You’ll never leave the control booth. You’ll never go home, and you’ll never be happy with the mix. You need to know when it’s time to walk away, let your ears, and mind clear. Give it a day, then listen again.

The real art of mixing, and production,,, is knowing when to stop re-mixing, and producing.

I’ve been in the studio for ages. Trust me on this one,, Less is more.

It didn’t suck. Give it a day. Listen again.

If you want some more constructive critiscism:

Synth Strings died in the 90′s, i avoid them like the plague and gated arpeggios are a cheap trance trick of making a tune with almost no effort.

The beat is bland and uninspiring, like every club/trance track out there, the whole thing sounds like every other club/trance/dance tune out there it has abslutley no uniqueness or identity.

The vocals are probably the biggest let down, the vocal style does not match the music style, you have more than 5 words so you can be a dance track. The autotune honestly makes me hate this more than anything however due to its overuse and in this case very badley done. This isnt autotune in the fashion of say “autotune the news” where they create music from the lyrics, this is talk-singing with “robotic effects”, it might work on tick-tok but certainly not here. The parts where you do actually get “proper” singing just sound wrong due to the layering of low & high pitched choruses and autotuning.

The lyrics are…..well honestly a litle strange and badley timed but this is partly due to trying to force them into a song where they dont belong. The words themselves are ok but its very apparent they are forced into a 4/4 beat where in some areas they shouldnt be. Or the lyrics need trimming one or the other.

    Anyway thats my critique, TL:DNR

    Long live Pat & AVGN!

The autotune honestly makes me hate this more than anything however due to its overuse and in this case very badley done. This isnt autotune in the fashion of say “autotune the news” where they create music from the lyrics, this is talk-singing with “robotic effects”, it might work on tik-tok but certainly not here.

@NeilRayne Somebody obviously doesn’t like dance music… The only thing I really have to say to you pertains to the part where you say this can’t be a dance track because it has more than 5 words in it… My response to you is this: Röyksopp. Look it up.

@NeilRayne Wow,, and I thought the new video was over the top. ? Talk about an overanalyzer. That critique was a bit ADHD, at the least. No offense, really, but geez? I’m surprised you didn’t mention dominant 7ths, or A delomolished chords?

No stone left unturned there, for crying out loud. Are you Beethovens cousin?

Well, thanks anyway. At least now we know, how much you know about music theory. I’ll consult you the next time I record a song that sucks. Just to be put in my place.

I’d hate to ever be your waiter.

@NeilRayne its like you’ve googled everything, its funny when someone knows a little about something, and tries to sound like he knows everything, i may be wrong, you may know something about music, but i dont boast about what ive done with music on the internet, and ive done quite a lot, im buildin my own studio, but i expect you to reply saying you already have one, do you really think that they made this song expecting it to hit the top 10?or to inspire a mass audience to write music like this? no, its just a theme tune to his show, and basically tries to fit all of the charactaristics of the show, into the song, i dont think they went out trying to make a classic… evidently, i diddnt listen to the whole song, but from what i heard, it wasnt out of time, so unless it goes crazy after 1.30, i would say that you dont know how to count in 4/4,

I’d love to see a Neo Geo console review. There might not be a whole lot to say about the games, but the console itself could make for a good episode.

I love it. It’s a perfect parody of all that over-the-top techno music that’s ripe for it. The autotune just makes it a thing of beauty.

That said, Kyle does need to re-record the regular theme song. This time in a proper studio with an actual bass guitar, and all the instruments panned in both speakers. As great as the song is, it’s been demo quality for far too long.
