James / January 5th, 2012
Without revealing plot details, here’s a vague idea of a future horror film I hope to make.
January 5, 2012 at 10:20 am
another great idea james. can’t wait to see it come to fruition. good luck with everything in california and have fun at magfest.
January 5, 2012 at 10:25 am
Definitely keep these up if you can, James. I for one would love the updates and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I plan on trying to petition my theater to get the movie when it’s all done.
Also, great movie idea, I never realized how creepy that little guy on the sign is. I’d look forward to that too.
January 5, 2012 at 10:26 am
That’s a great idea, James!! But I think that it will be a U.S. thing mostly, because in other countries we don’t have those signs. I, for one, haven’t seen nothing like that in Mexico (only the “this unit is watched by Batman and my mother-in-law”)
January 5, 2012 at 10:41 am
@madsmurf93 Since when have you cared about James? D<
January 5, 2012 at 10:42 am
@DataTrekker since now? #ionlyretweetedbecauseofyou #thoughtyoudlikeit #heseemscoolthough
January 5, 2012 at 10:44 am
ahahah what is this sign about? this is funny xD so.. yeah i’m not really familiar with it (i live in Italy and we dont have something like that) but i like the idea
January 5, 2012 at 10:52 am
@FAKoLL Yeah I wasn’t sure if it was US only, but either way, the movie will explain it. And if I concentrate on other projects instead, maybe that one will become a trailer.
January 5, 2012 at 11:18 am
@JamesAVGN@FAKoLL It’s also in Canada too, and I’ve always wondered that same question, James. Are we watching for him or is he watching us?
January 5, 2012 at 11:20 am
This sign is in england too James! it is just down my road
January 5, 2012 at 11:24 am
The sign makes me think “Neighborhood child molester, hide your kids”
January 5, 2012 at 11:25 am
Thats a good idea. I’ve noticed lately they have been changing the Neighborhood watch signs, so instead of that guy you got the all seeing eye on a sign and it says ‘Neighborhood watch’. Have you seen those? Anyway I noticed there are 3 different types of those signs, one with the eye looking left, one with the eye looking right and one with the eye looking forward. I assume those signs are ‘illuminated’ codes for those who understand what they mean about which neighborhood you happen to be in.
January 5, 2012 at 11:43 am
I mean its obviously that the guy in the picture is a bad guy because he has the circle and line through him like ghost busters, so we probably are watching him to keep him out of the neighborhood. Although it would be cool to see a movie how that came about, with a crazy guy in black murdering families or something.
January 5, 2012 at 12:12 pm
I remember that sign probably from watching American TV. He’s creepy as Hell. Canada’s neighborhood watch is called the Block Parent Program and the kid on that sign is almost as creepy.
January 5, 2012 at 2:13 pm
Ooo.. I like this idea. I think I am gong to take it straight to Hollywood! Thanks for the millions, James!
January 5, 2012 at 3:54 pm
Awesome idea, James. I hope you’re the first filmmaker to turn it into a movie. : )
January 5, 2012 at 6:22 pm
That’s a fucking AWESOME idea.
Someone else may have dropped this fact before, but actually, I believe Robot Chicken once spoofed that sign; showing the guy who was on it. But it was a joke that lasted only three seconds. And I doubt they were the first to joke about it.
January 5, 2012 at 6:40 pm
Hey James will Mike be uploading nerd episodes onto your youtube account?
January 5, 2012 at 6:50 pm
I bet Mike used to be that guy
January 5, 2012 at 9:54 pm
Quick question to James: Since Mike is staying behind to update the site, does that mean he won’t be involved in the AVGN movie?
January 5, 2012 at 10:21 pm
I think I’m not sure but I think it came of shiti game of inspectors
January 6, 2012 at 12:15 am
You said maybe it will become a trailer, does that mean you’ll possibly be making your own fake previews for the beginning of the movie as well?
January 6, 2012 at 12:29 am
Wow to things playing at the same time James Rolfe or don’t be afraid of the dark
I mean TWO things
January 6, 2012 at 12:49 am
Woah! that really sounds like an interesting idea James! I’ll keep on supporting you far into the future!
January 6, 2012 at 11:23 am
Haha… All I can think of when I see those pics is of the old classic horror movie ‘Darkman’. I bet he’d be great for a neighborhood watch.. least at night…
January 8, 2012 at 3:12 pm
@sterling.treadwell http://www.mobygames.com/game/darkman That wouldn’t be a bad game to review either.
January 6, 2012 at 2:49 pm
This reminds me of the Psychological Phenomenon known as “Diffusion of Responsibility”. Research for this phenomenon was prompted in 1964 when a women named Kitty Genovese was raped and stabbed to death in her neighbor in front of about a dozen eyewitnesses. The perpetrator stabbed her, drove away, then came back 10 minutes later with a wide brimmed hat to shadow his face, stabbed her again, raped her, then left.
January 6, 2012 at 6:51 pm
I’m pretty sure this case is where the idea for the sign originated from.
January 6, 2012 at 6:40 pm
That’s a total weed thought. Stay green my friend
January 12, 2012 at 11:45 am
I smoke but I think this is silly. @RoperFDF
January 6, 2012 at 7:08 pm
What area of Philadelphia does James and Mike live at anyways? I was always curious!
January 6, 2012 at 9:38 pm
James, you are my Hero. This Idea sounds great. Side Note: You may not work under huge budgets and casts, but don’t sell yourself short, your films are better than most. Think I’m gonna go watch “The Deader the Better” again right now. (showed it to a few friends, they love it)
You should do a DVD release of your favorite short films, etc. you have made!
January 7, 2012 at 12:46 am
great idea, copyright James Rolfe
January 7, 2012 at 4:37 am
great idea James. Dont let Hollywood take this idea away from you. I think they lost the true meaning of word “originality.”
January 7, 2012 at 3:24 pm
Good stuff James. Shadowy figure coming right down the middle of the road, slowing coming towards you, in the middle of the night. Like dark as hell, but you can see him just outside of the street light. That image alone has always been a creepy one to me. Kudos!
January 7, 2012 at 4:18 pm
I think it’s really courageous of you to put an awesome idea like that out there in such an early stage. I lock my unused ideas up in a vault. This story also has potential for a good reversal, where in the third act the presumably evil watchman turns out to actually be protecting us from… “them”.
January 7, 2012 at 4:38 pm
Great Idea James! I think this movie could be a classic. I hope to see it one day!
January 7, 2012 at 9:25 pm
Oh man, sorry sorry sorry I normally don’t do this but I seriously couldn’t resist!
Anyways, I love the idea!
January 8, 2012 at 12:14 am
Wasn’t there a shadowy figure like that in Dick Tracey?
January 9, 2012 at 8:46 am
I love the idea. He’d be a cool comic-book style character as well.
January 9, 2012 at 1:27 pm
When making these videos, James, don’t give out too many ideas, hollywood thieves are always looking to steal nice ideas
January 10, 2012 at 9:01 am
i´m scared that this guy may be watching me now
January 11, 2012 at 12:50 am
i’d it be funny if there were many of those guys & then some other guys could start a group called neighbourwatch creep busters & their logo could be the logo on the sign
January 11, 2012 at 7:26 am
I never saw the neighboarhood watch sign. interesting. And your idea is great
January 11, 2012 at 8:00 am
My wish for you is that the AVGN movie is successful enough that you are able to go out and make these many horror movies that you wish to make.
January 12, 2012 at 12:48 pm
lol I picture the movie would be people speculating that he’s either a drug dealer, a rapist or a murderer etc but in the end, what he’s really drifting about is completely different
January 12, 2012 at 7:48 pm
That actually sounded like a good idea for a movie. =)
January 13, 2012 at 11:56 am
While I love hearing this insight into future projects, I would strongly recommend that you refrain from sharing such creative ideas in the future. There are a lot of people that stroll through this site and you never know when someone else will take your idea and run with it before you get the chance. So please continue to give us the behind the scenes videos, but keep your creative ideas for future projects to yourself! I am sure many on here will agree that we want you to succeed and the last thing any real fans would want is to see you get ripped off!
January 15, 2012 at 2:45 pm
I’d make a suggestion as to what the Man in Black would represent, but I’m afraid it’d come out sounding a little too much like “1984″ all over again.
January 16, 2012 at 9:27 am
hahaha thats a fantastic idea James!
January 17, 2012 at 1:54 am
Oh the AVGN movie will rock but i can’t wait for your horror movies
January 19, 2012 at 6:07 pm
I don’t know if you want any ideas from fans for a future movie that may be two or three years down the road after the AVGN movie, but one idea I had while watching the video is that the signs, which are everywhere, actually serve as wards against a spirit that is attracted to every community above, say 300 people on the planet. Then, a windstorm comes along, or a few kids steal the signs from the neighborhood, and from then on, people walking along the street start to see the figure in black with shining eyes just staring at them during the day, there one moment, gone the next. At night there are break-ins, murders, fires, all seeming to happen to people the apparition watched within three days of the sighting, and even with all the technology thrown at the situation, no apparent culprit can be found.
January 24, 2012 at 11:42 am
I can’t wait for AVGN The Movie! For NathanielLenox, I think you should write your own screenplay. Just find a screenplay format book, software, and creativity (which you already have) and your good to go. You can register a screenplay with writers guild but you cant register an IDEA.
I also agree with Geekyswede, I cant wait for Horror flicks directed by James Rolfe. I think he can make a horror classic regardless of the budget.

Wow, that’s really imaginative. I remember we had one of those signs in most of the neighborhoods we’ve lived in. The one before this, for sure, not sure if there’s one where we live now. I’m looking forward to what you come up with. I have to admit that’s incredibly interesting!
January 29, 2012 at 1:47 am
the disturbing fact is that most kids are taken with in a mile away from their own home
February 2, 2012 at 9:36 am
cant wait for the film man i hope i get to see it
February 5, 2012 at 11:36 pm
lol, I used to be scared of that neighborhood watch guy when I was in grade school. I used to wonder if he was he creeping around at night or something when i was asleep.

Wow.. James Rolfe you are a genius… you have a lot of great ides.. hope you will make them all into movies… anyways, I’m really excited about the AVGN film and waiting for it…
The head incedent, by the way, was nice… the editing was OK and the movie itself was fine (not the best but fine) but the plot is REALLY great.. concider a remake!!!
February 24, 2012 at 4:26 pm
I always feel like
Somebody’s watching me
(maybe get the rights to this song for the movie)
March 2, 2012 at 11:08 am
Seriously James, have you been to imdb lately?? There’s a Sci-fi/Comedy film called Neighbourhood Watch starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill! I think it’s about a plot to destroy the earth or something, and it’s about some dads from a neighbourhood watch, not the mysterious watcher, but I found it so similiar that I just had to comment.
June 17, 2012 at 6:53 pm
That is actually a really great idea. Everyone has seen those signs in their own neighborhoods across the United States. I remember seeing those signs when I was a kid living in Queens. I used to imagine the silhouette as some kind of specific villain I should be afraid of. You can really play with the idea. It could be a creature that disguises itself as a man to fit in, it could be some supernatural entity, it could be a dangerous human being with no supernatural attributes, or it could be a group of dangerous beings that all dress as pictured on the sign. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
January 7, 2013 at 10:11 am
I know this message is a little late, but I’m surprised you would post a great idea like that for somebody to steal it from you and beat you to production on it
January 16, 2013 at 3:43 pm
That is great idea for a film.
March 1, 2013 at 6:35 pm
Although I recognize that sign with the creepy fedora and coat guy, my neighborhood has its own creepy version of that Neighborhood Watch sign. It has a picture of a row of houses with a huge eyeball floating in the air above them looking down. Even though it’s supposed to represent civilians keeping an eye on crime, the picture has always made me uneasy.
