What happens when I point an iphone at myself and talk without much planning? Let’s find out.

I’ll try to keep you informed on the AVGN Movie progress. Lately, it’s all been about hiring people. Business stuff. Behind the scenes, non-interesting. But here’s something little to keep the appetite going. It’s me shooting a test version of the title screen.

    ” The Angry Video Game Nerd” is more classy.But ” Angry video game Nerd : The movie ” implies that there’s a whole serie going on behind that movie, so if you want to extend the movie success beyond just the community of AVGN fans, and touch an audience who doesn’t know you yet, well that title might suit better.But for people who doesn’t know you, maybe ” The Angry Video Game Nerd” denies that you need to see the show before watching the movie. So i don’t know, it all depends on what kind of audience will be your target i guess.By the way, is that the sink where you drowned Mr Bucket just behind the black curtain ? I can’t believe you came back on the set of your MURDER haha. Keep going, James !

      @Mister Buckethead Yeah you’re right. It’s like “Star Trek”. General audiences can watch it without having seen the others. The movie itself is kind of crafted that way, you don’t have to see the episodes. If you’ve seen’em, all the better. If not, you can start with the movie.

    Haha awesome sculpture. It is a great desk plaque.

    Have the movie start off with a dream sequence where the nerd is the CEO of Nintendo or AVGN Games INC and he uses that as his name plaque while sitting at a huge exquisite desk.. covered in nerd memorabilia and various gamer objects (heck you might be able to get some donations from thinkgeek.com if you strike up a deal or even screwattack) or even ‘net meme’s. Then you have the chance to either start on that plaque and zoom out to the full scene, or start with the scene fading in and then end the dream as the camera lands on the plaque and fades out to the nerd waking up.

    (I realize you already likely have a lot of this stuff totally planned and storyboarded out, just figured I’d toss it out there in case it helps. :) I make no claims to be a pro, filmmaker guru or.. even a hack one.)

    Very kool to see some of you unscripted. Maybe call the vblogs “Nerd Unscripted” and do every one off-the-cuff so it feels honest, fresh and true. :) Not sure I’m crazy about the iphone quality, it seems to run into issues with lighting that washed you out in a few shots, but the level of detail, fps and general rezz was manageable.

      @sterling.treadwell Yeah I didn’t like how sensitive it was to movement also. I’ve done some iphone videos before that turned out way better, but they were in natural light. Maybe it does better outdoors.

    I have an idea for your title effects. Have you ever seen the HBO space intro from 1983 when the logo flies to space, and some colorful effects sprites into the logo before the “Feature Presentation” text appears? I was wondering if you would like to do something like that to your AVGN logo, only with some differences. That would be a great title ident for your movie. Just thought I give you a little suggestion, it’s your decision, James. Thanks!

      @cruiseshipz Yeah, that’s classic! I never had HBO back then, but I’d see it whenever the cable provider gave free HBO for a week. It was a tease and that logo made it seem like you were watching luxury TV.

        @JamesAVGN Thanks, James! I remembered having HBO when I was young, and I still remember this awesome intro that was used throughout my time. But yeah, I do appreciate the compliment, I feel sorry the fact that you didn’t have the channel back then. If you and your filmmakers may think about doing the same kind of concept (with some original differences) for your opening title, I, and your fans, will be wowed by seeing the AVGN logo fly into the beginning like the old times.

        P.S. Have you ever wonder how the HBO space intro was created, and how we, as kids, fly from the miniature model like city and through space where we see the HBO logo fly toward our TV screens? Well, I do found a rare behind the scenes look how the colorful intro was made. It was really interesting, and it had wowed me ever since I saw this video.     Have you already managed the music stuff? That AVGN orchestra theme is cool but a little overused and it would be awesome if you’d get an all new soundtrack made for the movie. I would buy it!

    For a title I was thinking just calling it “AVGN” the reason that I say this is because of it being a full length movie it will kind of set it apart from the other episodes. The title screen will have “Angry Video Game Nerd” going by what you have shown us in the video, so calling the movie just AVGN, in my opinion, would be a good title.

    I think shooting a physical logo for a title screen is a killer idea man, it maintains some of that b-movie magic and its definitely your style, gets the familiar audience in the right james rolfe mindset and gives the newcomers an idea of what they’re in for. From our, the cinemassacre fans, perspective its an awesome idea to put up these iphone blogs about the movie even if it’s not necessarily something interesting, i think everyones pretty giddy even though its still awhile off.

    Seeing that logo with the AVGN music gave me chills as well as a blast of good memories. I can not wait for this film. <3 Now I think I shall go watch some classic episodes I enjoy most.

    AVGN: The Movie sounds great.

    Hope the movie will hit worldwide cinema. If this comes out in Portugal, I would freak out. I’m a big fan of your videos. Not only of the AVGN, but all of them. If it wasn’t you, I wouldn’t watch horror movies today, and now, they are my favorite. And now I’m actually doing videos on the Internet, with some friends (just some sketches, nothing really special) and if it wasn’t you, I couldn’t do it. Seeing you talking about how you make videos, and the work you put on them, made me want to do it. I would love to meet one day. Unfortunatly, I can’t donate for the AVGN Movie, but good luck with that.

    I don’t think you can actually call it “The Angry Video Game Nerd” and have it make sense, at least from my standpoint. From what I can guess, the movie leads on from the Spielberg episode, right? “The Angry Video Game Nerd” makes it sound self-contained, which it absolutely cannot be if it leads on from the Spielberg episode. Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie signals that its connected to the online show.Just my two cents.

    The movie title should be really epic sounding to catch the attention of casual moviegoers, so i think that “The Adventures of Angry Video Game Nerd” would be close to that. 99.9% of film watchers won’t know who the heck avgn anyway, so “The Movie” -add is prettymuch pointless. Anyway, what the movie needs, is a catchy title.

    Id like to point out that most people wont know the AVGN-Show, so i guess the addition of “THE MOVIE” is quite important in order to hint them “theres more of it”, you know? it tells them that its not an independent movie but based on an internet show by the name of Angry Video Game Nerd. That would also draw a lot of new peoples attention to your show, so in other words: add “the movie” = more subscribers on youtube

    Bakels had a good point: most of the potential viewers aren’t AVGN fans, so you shouldn’t let them feel like they are not the target audience referring to yourself as THE Angry Video Game Nerd, and then just add “movie”. You should go something like “Tales from an Angry Video Game Nerd” or “An Angry Video Game Nerd Movie” or “The Anger of a Video Game Nerd”.

    I agree with Aaron Page, it should be chronologically confusing. “Return of the AVGN” would be good for this or something like AVGN 2…idk but whatever you call it, you have to call it something else for the Japanese version.

    I like it, has more pizazz when you use that model. Keep using interesting little details like that instead of you know, Indiana jones and the crystal skull nonsense computer graphics. Stick with the more unique camera technics that make Avgn so interesting.

    Hm, I don’t think it should be called The AVGN movie either so that you can bring in people who don’t know of the whole AVGN persona. I feel you need a title that’ll pull in those who are casual movie goers. I mean, you already have the interest of those who frequent your site so no need for the “The AVGN Movie” thing. I hope you manage to come up with a catchier title.

    Hey James if u are reading this text please take this offer for your movie. If this movie IS going to be in Movie theaters around the world. And since no one may not know what is AVGN. U should put your best AVGN video (vote by a poll from the fans themselves) as a intro to people who are watching your Movie. This way the viewers can understand what is AVGN and what does he do.

    Since you’ll likely be targeting a newer audience with this movie i’d recommend calling it The Angry Video Game Nerd. Here are my reasons for suggesting it.1. It’ll a be a new concept for people who haven’t already heard of the web series or this website. It’ll likely keep the movie from feeling more restrictive towards your core audience.

    2. It’s a movie so you can apply more freedom towards where the title establishes the plot. ‘The Movie’ sounds cheap and frankly it has never been a good way to market a movie in the past. It would be like making your movie from some cartoon series. If you want the movie to truly stand on its own merit this would establish your confidence in the movie to do well without having to add anything more to the title. And it makes sense since the movie will be revolving around the Nerd ‘character’.

    3. From my understanding this obviously isn’t going to be a long game review that will extend for an hour long. So in a way this movie already will be taking a new direction and will deviate from the origins of the web series in its entirety.

    4. Angry Video Game Nerd… No one is going to call it AVGN when it’s out. The character establishes that he IS the pinnacle of what an Angry Video Game Nerd would be like in reality. ‘The’ inferences this and will give the character a more restrictive role but you will be giving your audience to better expectation of the kind of movie they are about to see and possibly draw more interest.

    One pet peev I have is film makers that get fancy and ultimately silly with their movie titles. See: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Dragonball: Evolution, 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Therefore, just simply call it: “The Angry Video Game Nerd”. Don’t even put “the movie” or “the motion picture” just keep it simple. This is supposed to introduce you to the main stream isn’t it? Don’t muddle your image with a confusing title. PLEASE.

    I definitely vote for “The Angry Video Game Nerd”. It makes sense that this was your original plan, and I really hope you stick with it. The way I see it, a movie should almost always appeal to a virgin audience.

    On the internet, “The Angry Video Game Nerd” or even “The Angry Nintendo Nerd” is an extremely magnetic title for anyone who likes video games. And as a movie title, it is just as attractive, if not even more. The first thing they may think is “who is this ‘nerd’? What made him angry? What is his adventure in this movie going to be?”

    But to someone who’s never heard of the AVGN, the first thing they’ll probably think of when they hear the title “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie” or “The Angry Video Game Nerd Movie” is “that’s a movie adaptation of a show.”

    Furthermore: I, as an AVGN fan of four years, personally just like that title a lot more. To be honest, as a movie, it’s just a badass title. When people are looking at the updated “Top 100 Movies with the most swear words” lists a year from now, and they get up to the top 10, seeing “The Angry Video Game Nerd” will give any reader the chills.

    And just to reassure an obvious truth: not dropping the word ‘movie’ in the name will ABSOLUTELY not cause any confusion between it and the show. We’ll all just call it ‘the movie’ in casual conversation, Wikipedia will put (Film) at the end of their article, and everybody has the internet to clear up any confusion they may have in a matter of seconds.

    I liked the zoom out from the 3D logo. Perhaps remove the stand in post? Looks easy enough to remove, as it’s all black. Would give the title a sweet floating effect. I also like how the 3D title still has a handmade look to it, keeps the movie connected to the handmade feel of the web series.

Or if not you could have someone you already hired to do an effect to just, remove the stand make it look like it blends to the background. But yeah man appreciate the updates and all, some cool and interesting happens because to be honest. I don’t know that much about special affects on movies and perhaps I can learn how ot’s done, like to this day the death scene of Cpt Rhodes in Day of the dead still impresses me but what do you expect from a movie special affect noobie like me. Anyways man good luck with the film and hope for the best.

      “AVGN: Attack of Bugs Bunny”. Again, only if he’s in the movie and has an important role.

      “AVGN: Mecha Jesus Death Christ’s Revenge” sounds kinda cool, and that thing surely will be in the movie, but still I don’t like it. Firstly, it wouldn’t have such a big role and secondly it just sounds like a cheesy, cheap horrormovie or something like that.

      “AVGN: ROB Reloaded” is nice, but only good if ROB is in it.

      “AVGN: Nostalgia Critic Returns” would be cool, but I don’t think that matches the plot.

      “AVGN: 8-Bit”. That ’8-Bit’ just seems unnecessary. If it would be mashed into a tagline, then it would be fine.

      So in conclusion my favorites suggestions are “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie” or simply “The Angry Video Game Nerd”. I think these simple titles will be the best. You could add a tagline, but the title should stay simple.

    Liked the figurine, looks like decent model for the opening already. You should do a tribute to the style of the Star Wars opening title screen and text (if any). Hope to see more updates like this one.

    “The Angry Video Game Nerd” would work best. There’s no need to add in the word(s) (the) movie, we already know it’s a movie. I think the simplicity of The AVGN would be the best title you could have. Can’t wait to see this!

    See, I always liked the sound of “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie” or “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Motion Picture” because people constantly refer to your series as “AVGN” short for “Angry Video Game Nerd”. No “the”. Just like other movies that spawned from TV shows or cartoons, they are usually called “Blah blah blah: The Movie”.

    I dunno. It is YOUR project, and you can call it whatever you want, but to me personally, I find AVGN: The Movie to edge out The AVGN Movie. Your mileage may vary. Very cool title idea, by the way. I seriously cannot wait until this film is ready.

    I’d avoid putting “movie” in the title of your “movie”. I always hate that, because it’s pretty obvious that it’s a movie. If people need to distinguish it, they’ll say one of those variants – doesn’t need to be the official title. I think “The Angry Video Game Nerd” is the most appropriate title.

    P.S. I can’t wait for the movie, I know it’s gonna be awesome! And the “Too many THE’s” line sounded really funny to me for some reason. =)

    I think that the AVGN movie will be the best movie I will ever see. Even though my friend only introduced AVGN to me in 2008, I still had an addiction since then. Also in 2010, I really had an addiction to it and instead of just watching AVGN I watched everything Cinemassacre has to offer! From Board James to Mike’s Game Glitches! (BTW your awesome Mike!) So now I hope everything turns out fine with the movie! And there better be a sequel! lol, don’t care when just hope for one.     While “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie” would be more appropriate because of the impression it gives for the non-Nerd fans who do not know the character, I personally like “The Angry Video Game Nerd Movie” better. It’s sounds less generic, for one thing, and in case there will be another AVGN movie- I’m thinking, maybe in the distant future when James decides to go back to his first major project and do something interesting with it.

    Shooting in LA is awesome, but what about the basement? Isnt that where the Nerd resides? I kind of feel like it wont be an AVGN Movie without at least some scenes of him on his futon playing some shitty games..

    At first I thought ‘Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie’ was better than just ‘The Angry Video Game Nerd’, but Davoo made a good point a few months back when he mentioned looking back in years to come, and he’s right. It simply is a badass title!

    James>> Wow!! When you pulled the camera back revealing the title test shot with the orchestra AVGN theme, it was so inspiring!!! You must do it like that! That was FANTASTIC! Of course, Kyle’s main song should be in there. Perhaps in parts when the film begings, then the Orchestratal AVGN them when the title appears?!?!! That was just sweeping, James! Personally I would say “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie”. Very clean, and right to the point!!! ;D

    I would def either go with: a) Simply… “The Angry Video Game Nerd”, or, b) “Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie”.
