thumbelina is supposed to be in the middle of the movie. santa is telling her story to the kids, but apparently in the 1987 released version of the movie, they put all the story at the end of the movie, making it a complete no sense

I don’t remember the event specifically, but my dad often comments on how I chose this movie and it was terrible. This is the only other time I’ve seen anyone other than him mention it. Ever.

    TL;DR version at the bottom

I followed James work for quite a while now and I have to say that these videos get more and more boring. When James said “Which is clearly just some asshole in a costume” / “Did she break into a fucking zoo?” I just stopped the video. Really? It was so forced and scripted and it’s not even funny. Do vulgar words make this video any more funny anyway? If he would’ve said “guy in a costume” or “into a zoo” it would’ve been funny enough because we see his point but this stuff is so getting old. If other find the repeating saying of dirty words funny then OK… but it’s still old.

At the moment there’s some guy on Youtube making Minecraft tutorial videos and I’m far more impressed and entertained by him that the latest stuff there on the site. Why?

Because he’s creative with his jokes he puts here and there in his videos. There’s a chicken looking at him he says “These chickens look at me as they were spies. They plan something.” or he has to kill an animal to continue his review he says “I really don’t wanna kill you but I have to. Sorry.”

It’s simple little stuff like that that makes me laugh and watch the video. If he were uncreative like James and Mike lately he would’ve said “These fucking damn chickens look at me like assholes” or “Now you’ll die you motherfucking cow cocksucker!” But he’s not like them. The 95% of people that need to say “fuck”, “shit”, “crap” all the time just to get some giggles from their 12 year old fans. I remember that in the last years James didn’t need to use these worlds in his Santa Clause reviews but this is just painful.

TL;DR: Vulgar words are unfunny. Get creative.

Cinemassacre, TGWTG, The iRip-off Gamer. What’s so funny about some guys saying “fuck” all the time anyway. And you give them money for that. It’s sad and pathetic.

TL;DR: Vulgar words are unfunny. Get creative.

      December 20, 2011 at 4:32 am

@LulzFactory91 This is his style of makeing a video and if you dont like it dont watch it. I heard that there was a guy on youtube who makes good minecraft tutorial videos maybe you would enjoy them.

    • Skrummy

      December 20, 2011 at 5:13 am

@LulzFactory91 There are only three vulgarities in the ENTIRE video, and you switched it off after only the first two? If you’re so prudish over language, how the heck did you even end up on this site to begin with?!

    • LicaWolf

      December 20, 2011 at 7:19 am

@LulzFactory91 Me personally, I don’t have a problem with this video, but you may have a point about the trend of ‘gratuitous swearing’ in internet reviewers… but this was probably the less appropriate video to voice that opinion :/ Of ALL the videos on the site, this is one you can’t hardly acuse of gratuitous swearing. Sorry, but it makes you look nitpicky.

      • Rattrap007

        December 20, 2011 at 8:50 am

@LicaWolf@LulzFactory91 I’m on the fence. On one hand I don’t have a problem with a little swear here and there now and again. I watch TGWTG and AVGN all the time. But I do feel James goes overboard on swearing from time to time. Look if the video contained as much swearing as one of his Nerd videos yeah I can see it,

I would like to see less swearing in the reviews, but I’m not going to whine and complain about it. It is James’ style to swear up a storm as the nerd. Doug does a lot less in his, so I enjoy him a lot more. To each their own.

    • drsid67

      December 20, 2011 at 9:07 am

If you think that the chicken jokes you mentioned from the Minecraft guy are funny, then you obviously have a sense of humor that differs from someone who would enjoy this site. I would suggest maybe checking out old Sinbad or Jeff Dunham stand-up videos or perhaps check out “101 knock-knock jokes” from the children’s section at your local library. These seem more your speed. @LulzFactory91

      • MotherFucker Mike

        December 20, 2011 at 10:08 am

@drsid67@LulzFactory91 The few curse words that are in this video aren’t there to make it extra funny or something. It’s just part of our normal vocabulary.

      • gamez

        December 20, 2011 at 10:31 am

Well the swearing I would expect from you. You’re name is motherfucker after all. But this is not James in character as the AVGN. This is just JamesRolfe out-of-character. @MotherFucker Mike @drsid67 @LulzFactory91

      • sterling.treadwell

        December 20, 2011 at 11:02 am

@gamez Yeah you have a point. And Mike does too. I think part of the problem is originally James got famous doin AVGN stuff and has since branched out doing the other skit shows and a ton of video reviews, and he hasn’t clearly defined the line between howmuch of his celebrity persona is the AVGN and how much is just.. James. I’ve seen him comment various times that he is not the AVGN and that the nerd is overly harsh and critical and stuff for the sake of the character and entertainment. Yet it seems like whenever James does othr videos a lot of the nerd creeps in.

This means people watch his other work because they get glimpses of the nerd even though he isn’t there. But then they realize it ISN’T the nerd and end up not really liking the video content because it’s not as over-the-top or racy or crude.

Honestly I don’t care if there is swearing or not, I didn’t feel it was forced for the sake of humor in this, I would go with Mike and say it just feels like a part of James’ normal speech. And that doesn’t bother me, I enjoy a number of reviewers that use more rugged language because it feels less “packaged and processed” or homogenized for the general public. Down and dirty talk feels like he’s keepin it real.

But despite my enjoyment, I am beginning to see more and more that James will likely always be seen as the AVGN and so there is this conflict of interest. There is a little Nerd in all his current work, and you could say ” well yeah there is a little AVGN in all of us gamers”. But really the fact he does a lot of the swearing, line delivery and execution of narration/dialogue the same between the nerd or not the nerd makes him look like a one trick pony and some folk get bored, some get confused, and some just hate it.

James- I love ya man but.. I think you need to step up the game a bit and either create a few other alternate persona’s or find a line to better define between “James” and “Nerd”. Without it you’re going to keep getting these hot-and-cold comments threads where lots of folk love it, more and more folk hate it and a few people are stuck in between in the luke warm territory, slowly moving to one side or the other. I’d hate to see the polarity get any worse.

Great review to an hilariously random movie.

I like this style of movie reviews. Fast paced synopsis of the movie, highlighting some funny scenes, pointing out some of the randomness and problems with it and simply let the movie make fun of itself.

I’m sure the reason Pirates world park doesn’t exist anymore is because people kept flying off those speeding horses… :P

The theme park that appears in and apparently sponsors the movie:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate%27s_World

  • Chris Boisseau

    December 20, 2011 at 10:48 am

Never seen this film before, it was from 1972 made by some company known as Pirates World. That theme park no longer exists, just like Freedomland closed down back in around 1964. Freedomland was an ill fated theme park located in the Bronx in the 1960′s, and Pirates Land didn’t last long than Freedomland. “Thumbelina” was added there, there was animated version by former Disney animator Don Bluth and it was made around 1994 or 1995 which is even better than “Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny”. Consider yourself lucky!

  • Chris Boisseau

    December 20, 2011 at 10:48 am

BTW, there was a song called “Thumbelina” by Jimmy Boyd. It was on the flipside to “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”.

Imagine if I was watching “Annie”, it was a good movie, but when Annie and her friends are going to the movies and they thrown in a bonus film which is an excerpt from a 1937 film “Camille” with Greta Garbo. That was a nice addition when they saw a movie in a film. Just like they did with “Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny” with “Thumbelina” thrown in.

From the Pirate World Wikipedia page, they had a surprising list of great rock concerts.

“In the late-1960s and early-1970s, Pirate’s World was the venue for several rock music concerts, playing host to such artists as Led Zeppelin (1969, 1971[4]), Iron Butterfly (1970), The Faces (1970,1971[4]), The Grateful Dead (1970), Traffic (1970), Black Sabbath (1971), Blood, Sweat, and Tears (1971), Deep Purple (1971), Jethro Tull (1971), Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Steve Miller Band (1971), The Guess Who (1971), The Moody Blues (1971), Three Dog Night (1971), David Bowie (1972), The Doors (1972),[5] Wishbone Ash (1973), Santana (1973), Alice Cooper (1973), and The Beach Boys (1973). The Johnny Winter album Live Johnny Winter And (1971) was a live album partly recorded at Pirate’s World in fall 1970. It was not uncommon for crowd control problems to break out at some of these concerts.[2] In March 1971, police clashed with youths at a Grand Funk Railroad concert. Eleven people were arrested and two policemen were injured”

Holy Crap!! Really? Dang!! I loved all those bands, and The Johnny Winter and,, album?

I wore the grooves out of it when I was 12.

Years later, I worked a show for Johnny here in Richmond, Va. doing lighting, and sound.

I ran the follow spot, and damn near blinded his ass. I hated doing follow spot gigs, ’cause you can never take your eyes off the stage.

Before the show, when we unloaded his truck, there was this crummy old 10 speed bicycle in there that I grabbed, and rode out of the truck. Of course, I did a power slide.

It seemed to be an odd thing to be on a band truck full of music gear.

I asked the regular guys, “Which one of you guys does this thing belong to?” ,,, one guy answered,

“That’s Johnnies bike. He likes to casually ride the bike around whatever town he happens to be playing in during the day..”

      Whaaaa?

Yep, I rode Johnny Winters bicycle.

Pretty cool, but I guess it’s one of those deals were you needed to be there to appreciate it.

I like how Santa is flying around florida during what is supposed to be christmas but looks more like to have taken place during the spring. I decided to do a little digging on this movie and apparently when it had its theatrical run in the spring of 1972 (yeah, I couldn’t believe it either, and turns out I was right about the spring thing) there was another version with Jack and the Beanstalk instead of Thumbelina.

You were definitely right, James, about it being a big advertisement for this Pirate’s World place. Apparently the park opened in 1967, in Dania, Florida. I guess it was successful at first, but when Disney World opened in 1971, it took away nearly all of the park’s business. This movie came out in 1972, I’m assuming to drum up some extra business, it probably only cost them a day’s admission to the park to pay all those kids, and a case of beer and a free lunch to pay the “actors”. In 1973, Pirate’s World was in bankruptcy. By 1975, the park was completely closed down. If you’re looking to visit whats left of this place, I’m sorry. It was eventually rezoned as residential, leveled and had condominiums built on top of it.

Ed Wood is a master of cinema compared to this crap.

And speaking of all of that, according to Wikipedia, Pirates World opened in 1967 in Dania, FL until it closed down in 1975 when Pirates World filed for Chapter 11. Pirates World didn’t have any competition against the rival theme park known as Walt Disney World since it first opened in 1971. When Disney World opened, they’ve gone after Pirates World and lost its luster. Look at other theme parks that they have over the years, Disneyland is still the original theme park since it first opened back in 1955, Coney Island has been a theme park tradition for many decades since the 1920′s and 1930′s and of course, there’s Rye Playland for many, many years since the 1930′s. The other theme park that didn’t exist was Freedomland in the Bronx, NY since it opened back in 1960 but it closed down in 1964 and it lasted 4 years, not a good theme park to begin with, today they turned into an apartment complex. Over the years, they had the New York World’s Fair which was an event with lots of attractions and exhibits, that last two years, the first one was from 1939 until 1940, and again from 1964 and 1965. The park we have known today as Flushing Meadows Park and it still uses the same structure of what was left from the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, the Unisphere is still there and some structure are there too.

I’m speechless….. They had to have all been doing acid when they made this.

This movie makes Plan 9 from outer space look like Citizen Kane.

The only redeeming factor is the kid jumping off the roof with the umbrella.

I once had the same idea, and jumped off my dads roof with a garbage bag for a parachute when I was about 9. Same effect, only I was 2 stories up.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I hit the sidewalk like a bag of meat.

    ….years later,, like 2 years ago……

I thought I’d learned my lesson, but then I found a huge magnifying glass at work nobody was using, for any particular reason.

Hmmmnnn? What can I possibly do with this???

I know,, A DEATH RAY!!! That really did seem like a good idea at the time.

… Yep,, I took it outside on a sunny day, and burnt the living shit out of my retina.

    I still can’t see straight.

Wait!! I got a way better idea!!

Godzilla, Rodan, The Ice Cream bunny, , and I dunno, frickin’ Gidrah, or some other dumbass monster, all get invited to go out for a sunset cruise with Buddy Hackett on his boat.

It would have to be a really big boat, but what the hell? Let’s be real here. Not just any boat would hold Buddy Hackett.

…. Anyway,, they pass through the same fog that made “The Incredible Shrinking Man”,,, shrink. Then, they land on an island who’s ruled by the terrible…..

    …. Wait for it…….

    THUMBALINA!!!

It’s very ironic, like a Twilight Zone episode, but at least before she stomps them all into oblivion….

They all get to look up her dress.
