      November 22, 2011 at 3:19 pm

      @SampoKaarenmaa

Yes! Crazy scene! That’s the one I was thinking of! James probably never saw it, especially when it’s a low budget movie.

What James reviews more B movies they anyone. I am pretty sure he has seen Hobo with a Shotgun.

  • MarcusBrody

    November 22, 2011 at 8:58 am

What about Terminator 1. Great Scene there. Arnold jumps out of a burning truck and the flesh burns to the skull. They usually cut that scene in almost any release I have seen. Also Denethor in Lord of the Rings. You don’t see it, but this guy must have walked about a mile while burning bright. And finally, when talking about Freddy, Groundskeeper Willie as Freddy in that Simpson Halloween special. He had to wait for Mr. Van Houten to finish while burning. Classic…

Awesome list James, the only other one I could think of is the one at the beginning of Zoolander. I know these were all horror related, but you can’t tell me the there weren’t burning bodies in that gas station scene.

@metalcommand@JoaoDuketwoLeal@L0G1CAL I know Twisted Sister and Dimmu Borgir have a song with the same name, but is not that one. Is the one by Judas Priest. Ear the both of them, and then the clip from the video and you will see.

      • metalcommand

        November 23, 2011 at 10:52 am

@JoaoDuketwoLeal@metalcommand@L0G1CAL Hmm, you’re right! Well, I’m a huge Judas Priest fan but I never listens to the albums without Rob Halford, except for a few songs. With the exception of Jugulator and Demolition, I own all the studio albums :P

  • FAKoLL

    November 22, 2011 at 12:09 pm

    • starscream

      November 22, 2011 at 4:36 pm

@PDL Hell yeah! We’ve been spoiled lately. I figured with the AVGN movie in the works, we wouldn’t get much lately, but fans of James have certainly been happy as of late.

  • fob911

    November 22, 2011 at 3:17 pm

How’d you forget Stay Alive? At the end (stop reading if you haven’t seen it) she burns and he confronts his fear of fire. I thought it was an intense scene, especially when Frankie Muniz comes back when they thought he was dead. Also, when’s the next AVGN? It’s been almost 2 months.

  • bubsy54

    November 22, 2011 at 5:26 pm

what about the original A Nightmare on Elm Street?

When Freddy is burned as he is chasing Nancy…i think that is regarded as one of the most complex and awesome fire stunts among special effects people

i dont have the sources to back it up, but i definitely have read that in different places….besides that, its awesome anyways…better than the remakes fire stunt

  • DuduTrlrprkmscr

    November 22, 2011 at 5:33 pm

Got to say – Number 2 was AWESOME. I remember seeing the first one, thinking it was good, but was kinda bored by the second one. Seeing that clip, I have no idea why… that looked great! God knows how those stuntmen survived. :P

  • ASSSSSSSSSSSS

    November 22, 2011 at 5:42 pm

This was fucking gay because of the lame ass fire puns every two seconds, accompanied by all the fire theme music. Let the shit talking on my comment commence.

    • Big McLargehuge

      November 22, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Killer list, James. Keep the (proverbial) flame burning!

A crying shame you didn’t use the song “Die in Fire” by black metal pioneer Bathory, though.

  • HeikkiKlemola

    November 22, 2011 at 7:14 pm

I thought you were gonna include “The wicker man” for sure, because hey “I heard you like burning men so we put a burning man inside your burning man so you can sacrifice while you sacrifice…”

What an amzing video; James, like usual. I thought you would pick some Godzilla clips. I think about “Terror of Mechagodzilla” when Big G’s dorsal fin is set on fire in the final battle, or in “Godzilla vs. The Thing” where Godzilla’s head is burn for some seconds. But there is also this one from “Crank 2″…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-WcdQNW3NM&feature=relatedThanks again for your generosity and the memories of cinema you share with us.

I have to admit, the fire-themed music and fire puns got old after the first couple times. Otherwise, nice video. This and your “heads exploding” video are fun to watch.

    November 22, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Haha, when i heard that the top 1 was named “firestarter” i was thinking that james would use prodigy-firestarter as music, changed my mind because that James does not listen to such music. But when i heard the music i smiled. :)

  • sweetooth0

    November 22, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Cannot believe in this whole talk back not a single person pointed out that the single greatest burning scene of all time from Don’t Go In The House was not included. Just the fact that the visual effect itself was so well done puts it over the top, that and half of these clips technically didn’t feature people burning to death.

  • Korgull

    November 22, 2011 at 8:22 pm

All I could think of through this entire video is “I am the God of Hellfire, and I bring you… Fire!”

  • Psykhophear

    November 22, 2011 at 8:40 pm

Thanks to you James, I’m now hooked with Judas Priest’s Burn In Hell. The song fits so well in that burning scene in Maniac Cop 2.

Man, there were more puns in this video than in Batman & Robin! Of course, these puns were entertaining (for the most part), and B&R’s weren’t.

Thought for sure that Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood and The Ninth Gate should’ve mad the list. Jason bursting into flames thanks to a girl with telekinetic powers and Frank Langella burning up because he tried to invoke the power of Satan! How could you go wrong?

  • SebastianSierralta

  • MichaelSyrigos

Awesome list James. With the exception of number two, which looks awesome, I’ve seen all those. Puns were great and so was the track list. But honestly, when you said ‘she knows how to fight fire with fire’ I was expecting the Metallica song!!! That was a good sleight of uh…hand? Hehe, keep em coming!!!!

Hi, I think these are the songs on the video (by the way, great selection, James):

The Crossfire commercial song (couldn’t find the version)

UFO – Too Hot To Handle

Glenn Frey – The Heat Is On

Rob Zombie – Girl On Fire

      The Trammps – Disco Inferno

Twisted Sister – Burn In Hell

      AC/DC – Get It Hot

      Deep Purple – Burn

Blue Öyster Cult – Burnin’ For You

Billy Joel – We Didn’t Start The Fire

Johnny Cash – Ring Of Fire

Judas Priest – Burn In Hell

      The Prodigy – Firestarter

Jerry Lee Lewis – Great Balls Of Fire

Personally, I would have included Nicholas Cage’s death in Kick-Ass on this list. It’s not particularly gory or over the top, but it’s a really great and dramatic moment and really packs an emotional punch.

  • HeavyHitterRobert

    November 23, 2011 at 3:40 am

Ofcourse, much like all your video’s, I enjoyed this. But like alot of other folks that think they know better on here.. I think this was missing a few great “burn to death” scenes. I mean, movies like Silent Hill (which had a gruesome, yet, terrific burn scene), both the 1973 and 2006 Wickerman movies, and I’m surprised that Carpenters The Thing wasn’t also mentioned but most of all, I was baffled not to see Spontaneous Combustion. I know you’ve seen it because you did a thing on it on Monster Madness in 2009. Spontaneous Combustion would be my first movie choice, hand down.

  • Jedicake

    November 23, 2011 at 3:59 am

The burning scene in The Thing From Another World is kinda like the head-on crash scene in Death Proof. You’re sitting there watching the movie thinking when is something cool going to happen and then it hits you in the face with more force than a Chevy Nova and is more intense than a bucket of flaming gasoline. The amount of action that happens immediately pulls you to the edge of your seat.

  • JordanFarmer

    November 24, 2011 at 9:04 am

Good list but you gotta have spontanius combustion on there and the bereak out scene in Watchmen when the guy thats on fire has no shirt …lookss amazing take another look!!

    November 26, 2011 at 2:42 pm

Hey James, I think you have to do a second part of this. You forgot the damn ass-kicking burning bitch scene from “Mary Shelly´s Frankenstein”, where the new bride of the monster got rid of the catfight between Frankenstein and the monster, taking a paraffin lamp, cracking it above her head and running down the corridor until she finally jumps out of the window. THIS kicks ass!

    November 30, 2011 at 6:48 am

@EatenSoler You know, I have to agree. I get that James has a personal connection to the Hammer Horror movies but they’re far too dated now and many of them are really cheesy. The same’s true of the Kaiju films. I’m sorry James, but Godzilla fucking sucks. It’s an extremely fake looking guy in a rubber suit knocking over model buildings.

As much as I respect James knowledge of film, it’s clearly a far greater passion of his than video games. I think his taste in films lacks refinement as he appears to like films more for their special effects and cinematography, as something he can deconstruct, analyse and possibly even recreate. He doesn’t look at films for their atmosphere, storyline, artistic merits etc. outside of nostalgia and how things where achieved in the past.

As someone who wants to become a proper film producer or director, it’s important now to understand modern film. Understanding why the pacing, imagery and characterisation in Inception was so good is far more important than understanding how the use of shadow in Nosferatu was used to increase tension and dread.

If you live in the past, especially the cheesy past of Sci-Fi, Horror and Kaiju films, all you’ll ever make are B-Movie Homage films filled with “references” to previous, rather shitty B-Movies the majority of your audience don’t get. Make movies that are works of art in their own right, not a collection of references and homages that only a load of self-important film students would get. Otherwise your film will just look pretentious and will be quickly forgotten.

@Billy McKenna@EatenSoler if you dont like the reviews and comments and the movies he gives the comments on then don’t watch I think that if james wanted to make comments on artistic movies and be serious about it he would, but he isn’t he’s actually making fun and just making some obivous remarks on the movies so if u dont like what james is doing make your own damn website and comment on the movies you want in the way you want and stop bitchin on how others are doing it

        @ado200046@Billy McKenna@EatenSoler

What a stupid and narrow minded comment to make. That’s like responding to James AVGN videos with, “If you don’t like the game don’t play it”, Why don’t you just grow the fuck up? First of all, how the fuck am I supposed to know if I like something without watching it? And secondly, do you not see the irony in this? You’re complaining that critiquing James Rolfe; a man who makes a living out of critiquing other people. Don’t be so bloody stupid. Do you respond to AVGN videos with, “why don’t you make your own games?”. No you don’t, so stop being such a pathetic infuriating cunt by doing it now.

Have you ever considered that I like James both as a person and as a film maker and would like to give him my opinion as constructive critique and intelligent discussion. Or maybe I’m just having an idle conversation about how I rate the artistic quality of a specific piece of cinema and comparing this to James apparent opinions. It’s what film buffs do. Now if you don’t like it, don’t read my comments, make your own comments that say things you like and read them.

(The most saddening thought that occurs to me is that you may well be so stupid that you fail to notice the ironic mockery of the last sentence).

ooohh now I see you’re one of those people that insults others over the INTERNET that ok I dont care about that since there is not point in insulting over the internet it leads to nowhere but just looking at your picture says that you are an insult to humankind , anyway like the post of Viktor says take a break from watchin movies and go outside there is something out there called the world with people who are gonna punch you in the face if u insult them to their face but I suppose you’ve already expirence that and are sticking to the internet, Well critiquing is one thing but saying how he should review movies and which ones is not critique its just say that he should do something that is more to your tastes and to be able to have a conversation there need to be more than one person talking to youreself doesnt count. Anyway theres no point in making insults ( if you dont get the previous ones than you more moronic than I though) instead make an effort of getting youreself a life

@Billy McKenna@EatenSoler Damn him for liking different movies for other reasons that me!

If anything, it should be nice to get a breath of fresh air. Try not to be so stuck up and broaden your tastes a little.

      • Billy McKenna

        December 3, 2011 at 11:42 pm

        @ViktorFarfarAndersson

I think you’ll find my tastes are sufficiently broad enough as they are thank you. Just because someone has different opinions concerning the subjective quality of an entertainment medium to that of James Rolfe does not mean they’re opinions are inferior. Why don’t you stop being a pathetic sycophant and develop a sense of taste of your own, rather than jumping to defend James Rolfe’s. I’m fairly sure James is capable of defending his tastes himself without you needing to imply that anyone who disagrees with him is automatically arrogant and lacking in experience in the medium. In short; why don’t you fuck off you pathetic, brown-nosing fan boy.

      • ViktorFarfarAndersson

        December 4, 2011 at 5:33 am

@Billy McKenna@ViktorFarfarAndersson Thanks for really disproving my comments about you being stuck up. Using too advanced language than necassary and instantly calling me “pathetic” for just saying that you shouldn’t be angry of someone because of their opinions and views. That worked out good, right? … I am fully aware that James could defend himself better, hell, my taste in movies are far from his, but I enjoy his videos a lot anyway. You should try go out and not watch movies for a week and two, and try to get that social life of yours going.

Oh look, now I did the same thing as you, thinking I know someone because of 3 comments on the internet. Now didn’t I look like a douche? Gee, I do wonder why.

1931 Joana d ark. awesome burning alive scene. Im glad you picked firestarter as the first, this often gets overlooked.

In the thing they actually missed the fire onto them onster originally and accidently burned on of the actors. but it was very mild and they just went on going. still worth mention it, they were doing it for real there.

    Also great choice of music.

Crank 2 : High Voltage (2009) At the end of the movie, Jason Statham is starting to burn from receiving too much electricity into his mechanical heart. Well…it doesn’t stop him from going to the final boss, beating the crap out of him, and, his face starting to melt, turning face to the camera and give it the finger, screaming out loud. Quite an amount of awesomeness.

How could you not include The Wicker Man? Not only does a man burn to death but he burns to death inside a giagantic effigy! I think you should bump your number 15 off the list to make room for The Wicker Man and then repost this video. And just to be clear I’m refering to the original Wicker Man not the crappy Nick Cage remake.

That little girl at the end is nothing compared to the little girls in Elfinleid. They have on average 4 invisible arms each about 3 meters long able to move any which way capable of anything from, blocking projectiles, to throwing a PEN hard enough to pierce bone, and can even F****N’ sever limbs ON TOUCH. The most ludicrous girl on the show, had I believe several hundred arms that were I DON’T KNOW HOW LONG.

one of the best is in a Canadian film called “City On Fire”
Playboy centerfold Cathy Crosby shows up where everyone is stranded in a hospital while the city and surrounding area is on fire. She volunteers to walk to get help. She is wearing a super sexy outfit of a blouse and skin tight jeans with a range coat. She tries, but catches on fire, and tires to go on, but she’s on fire all over and eventually dies. Fairly long scene with some good shots of her burning all over.

  • bill jones

    August 8, 2013 at 11:21 am

Another good scene is in the movie “Demolition University”. It’s a scene where a hot (no pun intended)
looking young terrorist woman is fighting with Corey Haim and he pushes her into a bomb that is attached to a post. The bomb goes off and sets her whole back side on fire. She continues to try to stab him with a knife while her back, ass and legs are on fire. Good scene. She eventually jumps at him and misses him, landing in a puddle and the fire goes out, but she just lays there.

  • bill jones

    August 8, 2013 at 11:34 am

Another great scene…..An English movie called “The Trygon Factor” circa 1968. Susan Hampshire plays an evil character who has her pussy and tits burned by molten gold at the end of the movie. She points a gun at the cop, and they struggle for it, she ends up accidentally shooting a nun who is carrying a ladle of molten gold. The nun drops the ladle, and the gold is splashed onto Susan, who is laying spread-eagle on the floor at this point, and the molten gold hits her and sets fire to her crotch, stomach, and tits. Cool scene!

“miniskirt Mob” a campy movie from the 60′s where a member of this gang of miniskirt wearing biker women goes and hides in a trailer. They throw a Molotov cocktail at it and the propane tank blows up an the girl comes running out on fire. Fairly decent scene but very quick.

  • bill jones

    August 8, 2013 at 11:48 am

“The Ex”. An ex wife is threatening her former husband and his family in a cabin. The ex husband’s son takes a burning log from the fire place and sets the back of her coat on fire. It is a loose fitting, thin coat that is open in the front. She is wearing a shirt and tight jeans under it. She goes up in flames, runs around, and ends up on laying on the floor burning. She tries to grab the members of the family as they walk over her to escape the fire that has spread to the rest of the cabin.
