    November 16, 2011 at 12:16 am

God I love this game, I recently played it on am emulator for my Dreamcast, And seeing how I havent played it for 10 years or so I thought I was fucked… Nope, everything came back to me like riding a bike… beat it in 14 hours in one sitting… These glitches are fantastic, you da man Mother Fucker Mike!!!

LOL You were really driving it home with the “getting pussy from two Zeldas” thing.

  • salculd

    November 16, 2011 at 12:45 am

Hey, neat. I’ve done the beating the game in five minutes thing before, but it involved being able to push up and down at the same time to glitch out some stairs–interesting to see that it can be done WITHOUT an emulator or disassembling a controller.

No Chris Houlihan room, though? I guess that makes sense since it’s so erratic. I was never able to get that one to work on a console.

    • MotherFucker Mike

      November 16, 2011 at 2:03 am

@salculd I don’t use emulators, you’ll only find glitches done on actual systems with me. And I didn’t include the Chris Houlihan room because it’s not really a glitch and already over exploited as it is.

  • WestBuiltAMountain

    November 16, 2011 at 1:03 am

I’ve always wondered who finds this shit… Who decides to try such bizarre things?

  • DonSkiver

    November 16, 2011 at 1:12 am

aww… No Chris Houlihan room. I’ve gotten there a few times on my SNES cartridge, and a couple times on an SNES emulator, but never on a Gameboy Advance.

Very nice glitches you found there. I’ve tried to edge the mirror portal the way you did, but I must have always had Link positioned incorrectly.

    Keep up the glitch vids!

    • Kuljin

      November 16, 2011 at 2:50 am

They took the room out on the GBA port.

      • TomasAbrahamsson

        November 16, 2011 at 3:02 am

Actually, the room is still in the game. However, you can only visit it using the “Walk through walls” glitch.

I had my own version of the Death Mountain Decent glitch that involves the most awesome act of dyslexia known to any gamer. With the infinite magic code, if you just enter the first part, but mix up two characters, you can walk though walls vertically in the overworld. Best part is you can enter any dungeon with zelda, and even get extra heart pieces and the magic mirror early, but only if you know the secret.

I love this game. I didn’t grow up with the SNES (we gambled and went with the TurboGrafx), so I only played parts of the game on friends’ systems. About a couple weeks ago, I finally decided to download it to my Wii and I played it straight through for the first time ever. My conclusion? Best Zelda game ever. The series lost some serious mojo when it went 3D.

Glad to see Livefyre back, hopefully it works for everyone!

And your (James and Mikes) comments still doesn’t show up in read, which was convenient with the old comment system, but at least you have the red “moderator” mark, which makes your comments a little easier to spot.

    I do this one “glitch”

in the light world, there is a fortune teller shop with a chicken in the fence area north of the town. pick up the chicken and get as close to the doorway without entering the shop. throw the chicken into the door, and the chicken with get stuck. i do it everytime i play zelda.

  • EXPLODA!

    November 16, 2011 at 3:56 am

    • TomasAbrahamsson

      November 16, 2011 at 4:04 am

@EXPLODA! Both the bumper glitch and the mirror glitch work in the GBA version. There are a few other SNES only glitches however, as well as some that are exclusive to the GBA version.

Yes, Maggie. Pretty sure all of them should work. I recently tried the insane glitch Mike showed at the end, and it works flawlessly. You don’t really need to follow his directions when walking inside the walls, because when I did it, it seems like you could walk anywhere and just eventually end up at Ganon’s Chamber. @MaggieBerray

Fuck YES, man. A Link To The Past is one of my favorite games of all time, and honestly, I think it’s close to being the best Zelda.

I remember playing ALTTP a long-ass time ago, and when it finally released on Virtual Console on the Wii, I played it again for nostalgia. Shortly after, I discovered the whole Beat The Game in 5 Minutes glitch. My mind was so blown my jaw extended 10 feet.

Too bad. Can’t see it from Germany. Video doesn’t start, hangs with “advertisement playing” but doesn’t play any. Probably because it doesn’t have any local advertisement for Germany. Or it’s just a Flash Player Version F*ck up. I loved the game as a child and would have loved to see the glitches. Too pitty I can’t find it on youtube, which works here…

  • achim.nickel79

    November 16, 2011 at 3:24 pm

mh… can’t see it from Germany. After hitting play it says “playing advertisement”, but the ad won’t start – neither the video itself. Probably because it can’t find advertisement suitable for Germany. Or some Flash Player Version F*ck up? Who knows? I loved the game as a child and would have loved to see the glitches. Can’t find it on youtube either, which works fine from here….

The ad video from YouTube (this stupid Mission impossible trailer) crashes the browser when either it finishes or when I try to close it. It crashes Firefox, IE and Chrome, all latest versions with latest Flash plugin.

I know it’s not Cinemassacre to blame for this messy ad crap… Just hope it goes away soon.

    November 16, 2011 at 6:04 pm

You actually missed one of the more interesting glitches involved with the death mountain descent. First, make sure you have a fairy in a bottle. After that, get to an area of Dark World with Bunny Link that has water. Bunny Link can actually walk on water a tiny bit before he falls into it. What you need to do is die while you’re on the water. When the fairy revives you, you’ll be regular Link. However, you do change back to Bunny Link after awhile.

IMO glitches are sometimes the best part of games, at least the kind that you have to intentionally do. Before the internet was mainstream and you either had to figure these out on your own or through hearsay from friends, it gave you a sense of accomplishment as well as bragging rights. Seems like now any time you find something strange in a game, people have not only already found it before you, but have taken the time to post about it and make videos of it. Its almost like a non-porn rule 34.

Before the internet was mainstream you either had to figure these out on your own or through hearsay from friends. It gave you a sense of accomplishment as well as bragging rights. It is still fun, but anymore you usually discover the glitches through the internet rather than actual gameplay, or if you do find one yourself you can bet there is probably more info about it on the internet. I remember a glitch exclusive to the GBA version. In Thieve’s Town, you would jump off the ledge, and use the Magic Mirror just at the right time. Then dash into the wall, and you’re on a lower lever (inside the floor). From there, if you move a certain path, you can get anywhere. This was the only way I completed that Four Swords dungeon, without having played Four Swords =P
Once I moved the wrong way, and all the colors were bluish. Even the file select screen showed a blue Link when selecting it, lol

First game I ever bought for myself.

I saved up my money, got on the streetcar to the store downtown, and picked it up.

I remember reading the preview in Nintendo Power; it got me hooked on a game I’d never even played. It was an amazing spread.

    • Lanlost

      November 17, 2011 at 2:09 am

Yeah. I Ocarina of Time is a great game, however, I never realized how much I loved this game.

I played it all the time growing up. In fact, it was pretty much my ‘go to’ game if I was bored of every other game. For that reason, I never really realized how brilliant it is.

I had started it over a million times and played to the dark world (doesn’t take long since there are only three dungeons that if you have memorized them go by really fast) but had never REALLY played through the entire game again.

Last year, when I was 25, I finally decided to give it a go again as I had copied roms to my Android phone. I had a keyboard so I decided to see if I could play through a game. I was going to play Chrono Trigger (never beat it) but none of my roms copied right (I had ran out of disk space on my PC so they were all 0k) EXCEPT for a Link to the Past.

Anyway, I played it again and was actually sort of ho-hum about it. I felt like I was going through the motions and that the game wasn’t as great as I remembered.

Until I got to the Dark World part of the game. After you beat the first dungeon in the dark world.. the game suddenly becomes AMAZING.

From that point on I played non stop. I thought about it afterwards. I had just played Super Metroid for the first time before it.

I realized that.. there are few absolutely flawless games. Even games that get a masterpeice 10/10 type rating can have some flaws in them but the over all game overshadows them. There ARE two flawless games though. This isn’t just me being a fan of the SNES either. Super Metroid and Zelda: A Link to the Past, are the two most flawless games ever created in my opinion. I can not think of a single flaw in either of them.

I’m not saying they are the most fun games ever, although they are definitely in the top X of those as well. But design wise? … Incredible, incredible achievements.

Seriously, play the game again. Play till the point that you haven’t got to in years. You will be surprised how amazing the game is when you are going through the Dark World dungeons. Masterful. 10/10, truly.

I remember getting an SNES with this and Super Mario Bros on christmas when I was 6. Took a few years to actually get interested in this game because it was so deep. When I was 10 my mom and brothers and I all started playing it together trying to figure everything out. It was one of the best gaming experiences ever when we actually beat it one night. My mom was just as hooked on it as I was. Memories! Can’t believe you found all of these fantastic glitches!

Hell, once you’ve glitched to the end in 5 minutes, try resetting and reloading the same profile. FUCK.

This was the first Zelda game I have ever played and to this day, it’s my favorite one, next to Ocarina of Time. I love it!

I had bought the game used. While the game work, something in the cartrige was loose. It turned out that it was the battery needed for saving your game. I had to leave the SNES on because I couldn’t save the game. It took me about 24 hours to beat the game (not including the time I took to do other things).

LOL I did the ending glitch and there are some anomalies in the ending sequence as well hahaha.

    • May 23, 2013 at 8:50 pm

OH and if you let the ending go all the way through, start the game again and you start off in the dark world as a bunny with zelda following you!

  • August 31, 2013 at 1:58 am

Played this game for 13 hours, took a break to watch this video again, and completely forgot that the game can be beaten in 5 minutes. SMH. Great video.

I have the GBA version of Link to the Past. It’s one of my favorite games, one I can play over and over happily. But question: would these glitches work for the GBA version? I’m curious but I don’t want to accidentally destroy my game in the process.
