So, you made an AVGN and Monster Madness on the same day, while being busy with all the crap that comes with making a movie. You, sir, are a unstoppable force and I love you.

I actually had a fan of my Man Movie Encyclopedia point me towards this site, and I’m glad he did. Love the Monster Madness stuff…

I’ll also go for the cheap plug while I’m at it.

The Man Movie Encyclopedia is as such….ever been watching Commando, or Lethal Weapon 2 with your friends and wondered just how many times they cuss, or beat people up, or how many explosions there are, or boobies? Well, fear no more, with The Man Movie Encyclopedia you’ll know. I offer a review, give the Official Man Movie Tally, as well as random facts. I think it would do you good to check it out.

  • October 6, 2011 at 11:22 am

I am really starting to think that there isn’t a single thing that CAN’T kill Dracula. sunlight, wooden stakes, Garlic, fire, ANYTHING related to Christianity, destroying his coffin,…….knives………is an immortal Undead or not? nest your going to tell me ordinary bullets can, or even suffocation.

I’ve never watched a classic horror movie – or movie – before. Black and White always turned me off.

I watched Dracula on Youtube, and it was quite interesting to see how different movies were back then; and it’s amazing to me, how they could do so much with so little.

Thanks for turning me in the right direction to watch some of these. I’m giving Frankenstein a go tonight after work.

Are Dracula’s clothes part of his body or what Oo ?

And Daniel’s UGLY? Come one girl! That’s the most handsome looking hunchback I’ve ever seen in a movie!

Putting a man’s brain into the dog… This sounds like Bulgakov’s “Heart of a dog”. It’s a brilliat novel and a superb movie, made by Soviets in 1988. Woth checking out.

“Wolfenstein.” Huh, I never thought of that. Thanks, James.

I like “House of Frankenstein” better than “House of Dracula,” mostly because that film has some continuity issues.

I just wanted to add the point about Dracula and sunlight as it was in this film and in a comment – in the book that most of these operate around (the Bram Stoker version) Dracula IS NOT KILLED BY DAYLIGHT!!!

There are various points in the novel when they are in London when he is outside, he’s even chased to the docks and from a house in broad daylight with little to no ill effect.

It’s certainly arguable that older Dracula style stories pre-dating Stoker may have this in but the modern Dracula is not killed by light (and it is worth pointing out the need to keep the coffin nearby is used in the book too. Also, as James mentions, he is killed with knives at the end of the book, as I recall only Lucy, his first undead victim in the book, is killed with the stake.

but london is always covered by smog, so very little vampire killing sunlight actually gets to the street level, so now what do you have to say.

    >> amen to that!

  • October 6, 2011 at 6:14 pm

I personally think this is the worst of the Universal Monster Movies. The story had an extremely interesting premise but I feel like this was a story that needed to stretch out to 1:40. It becomes rushed, convoluted, undeveloped, obnoxious, unfinished, and all for the $$$$. But hey, you gave good reasons, I respect your opinion.

Wolfenstein…haha, that one had me on the floor. Great video James, really funny. Side note: I live in South Korea and wondered if you have seen “The Host” and if yes, what is your take on it?

  • October 9, 2011 at 3:22 am

    Hah, Wolfenstein!

  • October 9, 2011 at 6:19 am

Well don’t get to serious those scenarios on thos films because they all followed the sucsess from the previous films and like most of the sequels even in those days,(ESPESIALY) they ruin the story and not only, seems allot more promising than the ghost of frankenstein!

Very odd that Karloff is the doctor instead of the monster. It’s a pretty good looking movie! Of course, it could have ended there, but we all know it doesn’t! Thanks for more awesome Monster Madness!

I loled pretty hard at the villagers comment.
I think given the magnitude of movie remakes/rehashes these days we are long overdue for a Frakenstein reboot. And they should call the film ” Frankensteins Monster” or “Dr. Frankenstein” Just to get that confusion out of the way right at the start.

  • October 18, 2011 at 1:21 am

You forgot Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein ! James !

James, I just heard about this movie called “House of The Wolf Man (2009)”. It’s a modern movie that pays homage to the classic horror films of the 30′s of 40′s. Plus, it has Ron Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr Grandson playing The Wolf Man. You should totally do a review of the movie.
