This is a Halloween special I made back in 1992 and 1993. It’s a complete mess, but it shows that I always managed to have fun on Halloween, even when I had no one else to spend it with. This is one of the oldest videos I’ve ever made. It has never been seen by anyone besides myself until now. Watch for animation at the end, done on Mario Paint (Super Nintendo)

Looks like a lot of fun, already a little horror film maker
September 21, 2011 at 5:28 am

September 21, 2011 at 5:41 am
AAAAAAAAAAA XDDDDDDD
September 21, 2011 at 6:00 am
I like how you spent alot of time on the production but didn’t take the time to wear pants.
September 21, 2011 at 6:13 am
kinda reminds me of robot chicken for some reason..
September 21, 2011 at 5:39 pm
@OlaviPössi yeah with the static transitions. That used to happen a lot when I stopped the tape. I done some editing to save u the boring parts. But I had to keep the static. It’s classic
September 21, 2011 at 6:48 am
You’re one sick fuck xD
September 21, 2011 at 7:28 am
accidents are not accidental and he was born to shoot good video
September 21, 2011 at 7:42 am
That was fun to watch. It’s cool to see where some of your mannerisms came from. It’s also nice to see that you haven’t lost your creativity through the years.
September 21, 2011 at 7:46 am
haha i think its lovely your willing to share so much of your child hood. i myself hated video cameras altho i dident mind photos so its hard to find me in eny videos its a little sad. btw the edit is not bad for some one of so young, to photo edit moving dolls me and friends dident start doing stuff like that before the age of 15. thx for a funny video ;b
September 21, 2011 at 8:25 am
James, that was awesome!
I wish I was that creative in my childhood. All I seem to remember is me playing video games as a kid…
September 21, 2011 at 9:07 am
I had that same horror music tape when I was a kid very fond memories of doing what you did except for the filming of it of course. Very cool
September 21, 2011 at 9:12 am
Wow, James. Part of me felt like I was watching myself. I made all kids of cheesy videos at that age, and I even had the same corny sense of humor. Nice Mario Paint job, btw. I was never that great at it. More of of a Kid Pix kid, myself. You seem like you were an awesome friend to have as a kid.
September 21, 2011 at 9:12 am
somebody should make a documentary about your shit.
September 21, 2011 at 9:20 am
Man, you really put a lot of effort into your movies as a kid – multiple cuts, elaborate animation, costumes. I made loads of shitty movies with my sisters, but it usually just involved plopping the camera in the corner of the room and bsing for 45 minutes.
September 21, 2011 at 9:41 am
Great work James! I wish my parents would have let me use their camera when I was a kid to show some of the skits and shorts I came up with… maybe it was best in my case they didn’t LOL!!! Thanks for sharing! Can’t wait to see more!
September 21, 2011 at 9:50 am
You should totally re-edit that animation and use it as the intro for this year’s Monster Mash.
September 21, 2011 at 10:30 am
James is one of the only people whom when you look at as a kid and totaly tell it’s him.
September 21, 2011 at 10:51 am
awesome
September 21, 2011 at 10:55 am
its nice to see how creative you were with effects and sounds its awesome and seeing james as a kid
September 21, 2011 at 11:12 am
It would be funny to see James do a remake of this.
September 21, 2011 at 11:29 am
Good work James, I would love to see a remake of it
September 21, 2011 at 12:23 pm
Globs are my second favorite monster after Eyes or one eyed things
September 21, 2011 at 12:31 pm
It’s Young James before he pulled the Master Sword from the alter!
September 21, 2011 at 12:34 pm
wow James, cant believe how creative u were at that age!
September 21, 2011 at 12:39 pm
I love all your stuff you should go one with this and stop with avgn you can do what you want the fans will understand it if you make a video saying your stopping
September 21, 2011 at 12:51 pm
This was hilarious
September 21, 2011 at 1:07 pm
Hahaha this was interesting to see, thanks for sharing it with us, James!
September 21, 2011 at 1:15 pm
hahaha 12 years old james xDDgood job
September 21, 2011 at 1:30 pm
lol this is great man. you haven’t changed a bit.
September 21, 2011 at 1:36 pm
Awesome.
September 21, 2011 at 1:43 pm
lol James was epic even back then!
September 21, 2011 at 2:28 pm
haha nice stopmotion there XD
September 21, 2011 at 2:53 pm
I’m not being pedobear here but you were pretty sweet back then…
September 21, 2011 at 2:55 pm
James, you’re the reason I never quit film making. It’s so nice to see you having fun with the camera back then, thanks man! I’m counting the days for Monster Madness, cheers man!
September 21, 2011 at 3:26 pm
For someone so young you did pretty well with editing and stuff. Let me guess, the full moon shot was of a light bulb in the dark? My friend and I were screwing around with a camera one day and we got that same exact shot. XD
September 21, 2011 at 5:59 pm
@TomM Trees and all?
September 21, 2011 at 3:38 pm
“Where…am I?”
“You’re in the pumpkin, stupid!”
This video’s amazing. Awesome effects, especially with what you had to work with at the time.
September 21, 2011 at 3:59 pm
That pumpkin ghost thing in the Mario Paint section seems familiar. Was it from the strategy guide? (And in case anyone questions that, yes, there was a Mario Paint strategy guide, and it was awesome.)
September 21, 2011 at 5:33 pm
@salculd wow I bet it was. That’s right, there was a guide. I think it even showed u how to do Guns N Roses album covers.
September 21, 2011 at 4:00 pm
You where Tenacious
September 21, 2011 at 4:05 pm
This is awesome! My brother and I did the same thing growing up with our video camera!
September 21, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Nice video James. By the way you should consider doing reviews on those found footage horror movies such as Blair Witch, the Paranormal Activity movies and recently Apollo 18. Watch Grave encounters too if u didn’t already.
September 21, 2011 at 4:41 pm
@gamez Hell yes, he should do a Blair Witch review, PA, Apollo 18 and REC as well.
September 21, 2011 at 5:00 pm
@gamez Paranormal acctivity was the most over hyped peice of crap. it wasn’t scary, there wasn’t even anything paranormal, it was just some psycho lady standing over ol’ dudes bed, and then she killed him. I mean really. We’re led to believe that she did it under super natural forces… but its more than obvious she was just a crazy woman, nothing in that movie could be construed as paranormal. it should have been called “psycho activity”
i could just imagine her at the police station “so you killed your husband”
“no it was a ghost”
“we have YOU on camera commmiting the act”
“yeah but there was a ghost in me”
“great, another crazy! Moody, get gurney”
September 21, 2011 at 4:49 pm
you were a cute kid. i loled at the bit with the pumpkin.
September 21, 2011 at 4:56 pm
lmfao that was just too damn good dude!
September 21, 2011 at 5:18 pm
People that have cancer turn into werewolves. Thanks for the tip, James!
September 21, 2011 at 5:28 pm
to think you went from that to now making your own movie
September 21, 2011 at 5:32 pm
“My Eye!”
September 21, 2011 at 5:53 pm
That was awesome, so creative!
September 21, 2011 at 6:09 pm
aww James, I love it and your old camera’s inability to focus
September 21, 2011 at 6:47 pm
Wow this was quite the blast from the past. Its great seeing his start to video creation. It sure is ridiculous, everyone’s gotta start somewhere!
September 21, 2011 at 7:17 pm
That was awesome… James you should definitely remake this shot for shot nowdays, with your current tools for a sweet side by side
that would rock
September 21, 2011 at 7:21 pm
Haha that was awesome James, especially the Mario Paint at the end.
September 21, 2011 at 7:22 pm
Had to post to add, James you make me feel so old
I had just graduated highschool and entering first year of college in 1993
September 21, 2011 at 7:33 pm
I remember that music you had playing at the beginning. I had a cassette tape with it that we always used to use at our yearly haunted house.
September 21, 2011 at 7:34 pm
Also…did you ever used to make Mario Paint movies of Mario getting killed? I used to love doing that. My friends and I could make a whole night out of that.
September 21, 2011 at 8:15 pm
Can’t wait for the 3D remake!
September 21, 2011 at 8:16 pm
Holy crap that was awesomely good!
September 21, 2011 at 8:20 pm
That was awesome. The one about the killer mouse really cracked me up. The Mario Paint part is really impressive. I don’t think I ever managed to create anything that good with it.
September 21, 2011 at 8:35 pm
Realy enjoy it seriously james you rock! not only its awesome but full of your wonderfoul memories as well.Only few kids would have thought all those cool ideas you had with the camera back then in 90s,it needs to be very telented to do all those things. And most of the kids are focusing on eating candy’s whyle you actualy take your camera and start creating. From smaller ages actualy kids shows how creativity have with simple things like this video for haloween, you reminted me again our creations that we do with some friends with our camera. We have made some episodes of a show of ours,a blair wich parody, adventures of a super inspector insipred from clouseau and many other crazy and cool stuff.Keep showing stuff from your past i love them all.
September 21, 2011 at 8:37 pm
I also enjoyed the scream that you put when the towel blob started to chase you! hilarious.
September 21, 2011 at 8:52 pm
Amazing James! I wish more kids these days had this kind of creativity.
September 21, 2011 at 8:55 pm
Evil Pumkin ate he candy.
MY EYE! …….ok!
September 21, 2011 at 9:18 pm
I can’t wait until Vampire Dog is spun off into his own movie.
September 21, 2011 at 10:06 pm
wow you sure have a lot of free time as a kid
September 21, 2011 at 11:06 pm
These comments make me laugh, James Rolfe could make a video of him holding a jar of mustard saying “Mustard? Must be made of turds!’ ASSSSS! and people would call it the greatest thing ever. Sheesh.
September 22, 2011 at 2:49 am
I also hate people who like something or someone. So pathetic! I have my own life! I hate everything and everyone and that’s juts ok. But like something. Sheees!
September 23, 2011 at 12:40 am
@Calavera
LOL…are you serious? You clearly aren’t that bright, and even more clearly, very unbalanced. Anyone who would knowingly make fun of the work of a 12 year old child can’t have much sense to begin with. So if and when you ever have sex, feel free to use protection. I’m not sure how many more incarnations of stupid the world can handle at this point, so the idea of you or someone like you reproducing makes me nauseous and frightened.
September 21, 2011 at 11:08 pm
Seriously if this video was posted before James became “popular” people would be talking so much shit and making fun of it. But no since it’s James people just eat that shit up!
September 22, 2011 at 6:18 am
yes yes we are all cinemassacre fanboyswithout lives or tastein awe of vid on this site. Wait, why are you here again?
September 22, 2011 at 12:09 pm
Actually, I think most people would take into account the fact that a KID made the video, and watch it knowing very well that it wasn’t just some 30- or 40-year old making videos and trying to garner praise. Much of the video is indeed laughable, but that’s part of the fun – I don’t consider it a valid reason to hate on it for the sake of hating. @Calavera
September 21, 2011 at 11:11 pm
You all say how talented he is to make something like this. Yeah he is so talented that he didn’t even know to hook the SNES straight into the VCR instead he points the camera at the TV. I used to hook my SNES to the VCR to record mario paint when I was like 5 years old. It just kills me anything James posts you all just fucking love no matter what it is. Just like these Turtle Tuesday videos he has been posting, they are just random videos he finds on youtube, but just because he posts them on here you all love.
September 21, 2011 at 11:18 pm
You sound upset over nothing. But then again, it is your opinion so yeah. Not like many people are going to really care. Some people like this video and some people don’t, it’s nothing to make a big speech over just because it got comments that sound like they praise him for everything.
September 21, 2011 at 11:37 pm
You need therapy.
September 22, 2011 at 12:34 am
@Calavera
First of all, people are taking these videos in to context. No one loves the videos because they think it is a masterpiece. Far from it. You would be crazy to think anyone thinks that this is top notch stuff.
Second of all, most kids WEREN’T making videos like this. I remember recording F-Zero on my VCR and my brothers friends all freaking out because I some how managed to do this. I remember one claiming that he always wanted to but could never figure it out. So yes, I subscribe to the “I know how video in and out works” club that you do. So did James, just not yet apparently.
Third, not many people are willing to reveal so much content. Good and bad. James has released so much bad material, and always admits it, that it definitely doesn’t help him, credibility wise. However, he doesn’t really need it. He is never saying that his old videos are amazing. He is simply documenting that he made them. Sure, he could keep them to himself, but he knows that his fans are craving material, whatever it is, and this makes a lot of people feel like he is a real person. In fact, I would say it is this part of him that DOES make him seem like such a real person compared to most internet celebrities.
So he made some shitty videos. So what? So he uploaded them? I usually hate when people say stock statements such as “if it’s shitty then why are you watching it?” … or ” If you hate it so much, then why are you commenting on it?” But in this case, seriously… you are missing the point and taking this way too seriously.
Yes, there are a lot of people who think James is god. These also tend to be either a) kids/teens who are at the age where their view of James over shadows any of their quality detection. b) People like me who are 26 and like James because he has the ability to make awesome videos yet retain the ability to seem like he is a dude you could, and would, have fun hanging out with without his ego getting in the way.
So yeah.
September 22, 2011 at 12:42 am
@Lanlost
I love you.
September 22, 2011 at 6:24 am
I get what you are saying and agree with most of it. But i dont ”crave” new material. I find it interesting to see how his skills and creative ability has eveolved over time. Its amazing to me to see his taste and preferences form and his style develop over time. That is for me the real value of his “old junk”.
September 22, 2011 at 11:31 am
Very well said, Sir.
September 22, 2011 at 1:45 am
@Calavera I agree these kids are idolizing him. They’ll want his unwashed undies.dranked up rolling rock and hell they might wanna drink his piss .Being obsessed with him is just wrong.Focus on YOUR life not other and don’t go around stalking James by looking up his address, phone number and even his bank account.
September 22, 2011 at 4:32 am
@Death Nation Thank you, I’m glad there is one other person on this site with some sense.
September 22, 2011 at 11:55 am
@Calavera@Death Nation From where I’m sitting you’re the ones with no sense. No one here is obsessed with James, we just like what he does, and it’s nice to see what filmmakers were doing before they matured.
September 22, 2011 at 6:15 am
wow thats a scary insight into your psychy right there…
September 22, 2011 at 2:19 am
James is a filmmaker. He was doing short films before he took on the avgn persona. I would like for him to do more avgn vids but I do understand that his first love is films whether he reviews them or makes them. Its his hobby and his passion. And its his site so he can post whatever he wants. But no harm in giving him suggestions. But making fun of the guy when he was kid cmon dude that’s hitting below the belt. He’s sharing his childhood memories with us so why knock him for that.
September 22, 2011 at 8:08 am
Wow, its Calavera. Here’s a tip because I like you so fucking much. If you’re of someone’s stuff, STOP LOOKING AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 22, 2011 at 8:16 am
@Calavera Wow, it’s Calavera, what a surprise. Here’s a tip for you, if you’re sick of someone, cut them out of your life. Don’t visit their site, don’t watch their videos. This also goes for that bitch in your life who’s giving you grief.
September 22, 2011 at 10:45 am
@Calavera
James was recording Megaman from the NES on vcr long before the days of the Snes, so that renders your point invalid, he clearly knew how to do it. He even explained this in an older video where he used a video camera, 2 vcrs, and a cassette player to edit/add music to his home movies often recording straight from the tv.
However, you are right that there is rampant fanboy-ism on this site. I like some of the things he posts and others I don’t. But I don’t let the blind fanboys bother me. You should’t either.
It is a little silly of you to use such strong wording on the guy’s own website and not expect fans to flame you. It is provoking for the point of provoking, and that, my friend is the definition of a troll.
This is the world of the internets that we live in. You know the rules; If you like something, you are a fanboy. If you don’t then you are a troll. There is no middle ground.
September 22, 2011 at 11:31 am
I agree calavera is a troll I mean why poke fun at James when he was a kid. James is putting himself out there and sharing his childhood memories with us. Why knock him for that.
September 23, 2011 at 5:16 am
I know Calavera from another forum, he has posted about his women troubles and how he doesn’t have the guts to get her out of his life, even though she treats him like shit.
So he comes here and starts trouble, accusing everyone of idolizing and implying that we are all stupid, because it’s the only way he can feel important.
September 22, 2011 at 11:33 am
I thought this vidoe was really cute. Using Mario Paint to animate Halloween things was really clever. I stopped reading Calavera’s post when I got to “I used to hook up my VCR to my SNES when I was like 5.” Do you really need to rain on everyone’s parade?
September 22, 2011 at 11:52 am
@Calavera *sigh*
September 22, 2011 at 12:01 pm
There’s a difference between loving a video for the sake of it, and appreciating a video because of its CONTEXT. So what if he didn’t hook the SNES up to the VCR? It’s not the point, just because you hate this video doesn’t mean everybody else has to… @Calavera
September 22, 2011 at 7:40 pm
@Calavera It looks like what he did was play the animation on Mario Paint, then he recorded the television screen with the camera so he could pan and zoom in on the animations, giving them a little more movement. Then it looks like he played THAT video back on the television, and recorded the screen with the camera again while the song was playing so he could record both the video and the song at the same time.
Plus, we visit this site because we LIKE the things James makes. Why would we come here if we didn’t? So of course there’s going to be quite a few positive comments. Sheesh.
September 22, 2011 at 11:47 pm
Well, since you didn’t notice, there were several animations at the end. Mario Paint allows for only one at a time. He most likely made and recorded them all separately and then edited them together.
Also, you’re an idiot.
September 22, 2011 at 12:13 am
That doggie in the Dracula cape was so cute!
September 22, 2011 at 12:35 am
Dude, I saw a brown blob this morning! Then I flushed the toilet and went to work…
September 22, 2011 at 12:46 am
@guch20 ….keep your personal fecal matter to yourself
September 22, 2011 at 12:56 am
this is fantastic, cant express my feeelings right now. fantastic… that is all
September 22, 2011 at 1:21 am
@ChrisKooke these vids are far too funny to watch but since it’s James you have to love him for his work then and now lol
September 22, 2011 at 1:39 am
I thought this was hilarious. It made me pick old video cassettes with stuff I recorded when I was young. The usual attempts at making horror movies, and naive silly humor.. I used to have Freddy and Jason halloween costumes and my friend and I would do interviews with Jason and Freddy.
September 22, 2011 at 1:43 am
I thought this was hilarious. It made me pick up old video cassettes with stuff I recorded when I was young. The usual attempts at making horror movies, and naive silly humor.. I used to have Freddy and Jason halloween costumes and my friend and I would do interviews with Jason and Freddy.

“MY EYE!”
September 22, 2011 at 4:51 am
That was realy impressive for a kid’s film!
September 22, 2011 at 6:37 am
Am I looking at the dreams of addicted kid?
September 22, 2011 at 10:31 am
Some things never change XDDDDD
September 22, 2011 at 11:15 am
For those of you who are disrespectful enough to come on this site and talk trash about a man that only wants to share with you his passion for film making, I say this…..Leave the man alone and let him do what he loves to do. No one is complaining about the things you love to do so why do it to someone else? He is not asking for praise or worship. And last but not least, He gets paid for doing what he loves to do.
Do you get paid for what you love to do?
????
I rest my case.
September 22, 2011 at 11:46 am
Those of you who are hating on this…can’t you appreciate something like this? First of all, it is insightful to see where a current film maker got their start. Its beautiful to see someone’s creativity at a young age, and then see what it blossomed into in the present. And further more…I am willing to bet those of you who are hating on this are probably just bitter…you see this, and it reminds you of being a child…a time when things were simple…where the world was still magical and perfect. You sit behind your computer now languishing your lost innocence. You should watch this and remember…remember what it was to be a child…and smile.
September 22, 2011 at 11:56 am
You know, it’s great to see others on the same stream of consciousness as me. I mean, we’re looking at a video from someone’s childhood which as we speak dates back around 20 years or so! Sure the production isn’t the greatest, be he was also a kid – and through this you can really see how much fun James was having.
Sure this isn’t the greatest thing I’ve ever seen, and it’s NOT my fav James Rolfe video, but goddamn I have a ton of respect for this because when I was that age I hadn’t aspired to make self-contained movies and whatnot. Not to mention that without this, James may never have reached the level he’s at now, but just to close my statements here: if you wholeheartedly think this video is a useless piece of buffalo turd, why bother making negative comments? Just move on with your life and watch whatever else makes you happy?
-nuff said
September 22, 2011 at 1:05 pm
This is awesome. Consider what you were doing at that age before making any comparisons. For me it was programming games in BASIC. Pretty neat to see not only the creativity and ingenuity he had at that age but how James is still the same little kid, just a little older now
September 22, 2011 at 1:25 pm
LOL JAMES WAS ALREADY BORN CRAZY XD
September 22, 2011 at 4:29 pm
It’s great to see that you were full of creative genius, even at that age. Hilarious too. Thanks for sharing.
September 22, 2011 at 4:49 pm
James, you were one clever kid and are still one hell of a clever guy, if i had a hat i’d take it off and NEVER put it back on, I visit your site everyday and you never let me down. You truly are an inspirational character man
September 22, 2011 at 5:01 pm
awsome looks like you had alot of fun plus the “stop motion-ish-ness” is great for your are nice job man!
September 22, 2011 at 5:02 pm
Lmao “where am i?” “your in the pumpkin stupid!”
September 22, 2011 at 6:01 pm
Little James was raped by the Blob, now we all know why he’s angry.
September 22, 2011 at 6:06 pm
Hm…. still better than most the stuff that’s shat of out hollywoods big fat fucking ass these days.
