Super 8 Movie Review

Give Real Steel a chance. I thought it was gonna be ass. But then I saw the movie and the emotion sort of worked. And this is coming from a guy who hates CG robots like the Transformers movies. As a movie if you take out the robots it'd be a decent Rocky sequel. No worse than Rocky V. Or think of it as Future Rocky. If it's not your cup of tea that's ok. I thought it was pretty cool.

i kept having to point out things in the background to my girlfriend, sadly she didnt quite get the meaning of them so was just like "..okay"

Some people like loud movies. I am one of these people. But this movie was ear rape. It was louder then it would be if it happened in real life! It was ear scattering loud, and it makes you wonder why nobody thought this either. The kids were good actors, but 70% of the movie was quiet suspenseful scene, then fucking ear shattering rape. My ears were ringing for 45 minutes after i saw this shit movie. It was like ET and transformer's deformed aborted fetus. I despise this movie.

I don't care what the filmmakers say,or what they call it. Real Steel IS Rock'em,Sock'em Robots: The Movie, and everybody knows it.

This was a good movie. I just love the whole government cover up conspiracy type. This movie really made me think of E.T. and really had an X-Files feel to it (my favorite show of all time.) it wasn't perfect though, the end was a little too convenient but kudos to abrams for giving us something other than a sequel or a comic book movie this summer. James was right about abrams getting better and better, for instance, i absolutely hated MI 3, cloverfield was decent, I loved Star Trek, very well done, very Mass Effect, and this movie was just as good as star trek. Thanks for diversifying James, good review. Do more!!!!

I thought this movie was a complete shitload of fuck. Does J.J Abrams want to use the lens flare anymore in this piece of shit? It's in every goddamn shot, even when theres no light! The story sucked, the acting was awful, the kids were annoying, the monster was such a cliche and it wasn't scary at all. Fuck this movie i want my $17 it cost me to see this piece of fucking dogshit back.

Oh - and all of the license plates are incorrect except for the Sheriff's vehicle. Red and white plates are for county vehicles only. And some of the patches are wrong on the police uniforms. BUT LIKE I SAID - i only noticed because I'm from there.

I want to preface this comment by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Loved it, actually. But, being from Ohio - I HAVE to point out some flubs. Despite the movie being set near Dayton Ohio (because of Wright Patterson AFB of course), there is a scene at a town hall meeting where a local yokel is complaining about the power being out "even all the way over to Belmont County." This really confused me because Dayton and Belmont are essentially on opposite sides of the state. However, I realized that part of the film was shot in Weirton West Virginia, which is pretty much a hop, skip, and a jump across the border of... you guessed it... Belmont County.

Just sayin.

I just saw this recently, like James, and I really enjoyed it! It wasn't over-the-top and filled with visual effects and no character storyline/chemistry, IT WAS THE EXACT OPPOSITE! The storyline was great, and you pnly get glimpses of the (obvious spoiler) alien, it has good morales in it and there's even a scene were the 'f-bomb' is used, like in 'X-Men: First Class', at first, I throught this was going to be a lame superhero movie, but it wasn't anything like that, it was way different, it wasn't even about superheros!!

Noise reduction would have been nice here, but I guess you kept everything raw which is fine.

But it's great to see James commend a modern movie for once!

This movie sits well with me, I do look back on it more fondly then Green lantern right now actually. All the kids actors was great, which seems impossible. The train crash was so great I could watch it multiple times. It is indeed one or two fucks allowed in a movie before it gets the R rating. And what the hell is up with Real steel. Come on I want mechs haphazardly made from spare parts and scarp metal shooting the shit out of each other. Mechwarrior come on!

My goodness, such hatred. Anyone who hasn't destroyed his or her brain-cells so much that he or she is unaware of a video stating that he's very busy should realize that he's very busy. He has a lot to do, but he's even still providing content for the site. Why are you fools crying about it? I'm not kissing ass, but at the same time, I do realize James is actually only one person, and his videos are his. He's not doing this to be "famous". He does this, because he loves it. Isn't that why most film people should do film? NOT because they become rich? That's not a fine use of art. That's simple, shallow greed. Let the guy do what he wants, and watch his other videos that you DO LIKE in the mean-time. You're allowed one "fuck" in a PG-13 movie. I got that from the director's commentary on "The Craft".

Also, why can't some people respect James' dream to make a movie? He has said that it is something that he has always wanted to do and as a result he is going to have to slow down on AVGN for a bit. I think that it is disrespectful to James, whining when he is trying to realize one of his big dreams.

Even IF he did quit AVGN I would totally support him to do what makes him happy. He has given us plenty of laughs and even inspiration. The least we can do is support him on whatever he does.

Patience. He will be back with AVGN, I'm sure.

Nice video, as always. I'm glad to see such a large variety of videos from James. I'm sick of so called "fans" bashing him for supposedly abandoning AVGN. He didn't abandon it and even if he did, i wouldn't blame him. He did it for free for his fans but how long can you do that until it becomes too much. He's expanding, trying other things and focusing on what he enjoys most. You have to be more opening minded and accept new things...why is only AVGN what some of you enjoy? I like his Board James reviews, movie reviews, his home made movies, etc. It's all good.

Anyway, keep it up, James! You keep posting and I'll keep watching.

I'm getting sick of hearing all the little whiners complaining about no new AVGN episodes. They obviously don't have no idea how much work goes into making a movie. It isn't something that someone can just pull out of their rear in a week. Well, you could do that, but the quality will greatly suffer, therefore, you'll have a bad movie. These guys need to stop pissing and moaning and respect James' wishes on what he wishes to do. It's his show, his career. I don't mean to be sticking up for anybody, it's just something I'm getting aggravated with. I know there's quite a few true and loyal fans who respect and admire James as person, and not just because he's the Nerd. I'm sorry for going off here, I'm not trying to start a fight or troll or nothing, but I felt like I had to get something off my chest. But it's no use, since there'll always be whiners. ARGH!

I comment here and there but only read the other comments if i decide to comment, and usually only to see if there is a response to my opinion. Most people probably don't even read the comments so the repetition is something they don't see. Unless the definition of comment has changed then their personal opinion is exactly what they should post, even if you've read the opinion from someone else it doesn't make it irrelevant the amount of times a comment gets raised is as valuable a tool of understanding ones fanbase as is the content of the individual post. Take your own advice chill the fuckout and skip the comment section as opinions rarely vary that much anyhow. Their either hate it or love it. The people who feel indifferent aren't gonna have much to say .

James takes one month off AVGN, aspires to make an AVGN movie, and people are saying he ABANDONED AVGN?

Anybody expressing this sort of sentiment is a disgraceful lot, you're all a bunch of greedy mcdouchypants. Didn't he pretty much expressly state he's going to resume doing AVGN as well as the movie because whiny crybabies were whiny crybabies? That's OK, though, keep being whiny crybabies. It's not like he hasn't been paid by SpikeTV to do movie reviews for a long time now, or anything. This SURELY is the first movie review he's posted, ever.

"Real Steel" looks pretty silly, but it's actually based on an old Richard Matheson story. He also wrote that story into a classic Twilight Zone episode:

Super 8 is a terrific film and I know you may have seen the ET meets Transformers, or Alien meets Goonies, or other such comparisons. I will say it has Spielberg written all over it, which is a good thing because Spielberg is Spielberg. J J Abrams wrote and directed this film. If he keeps making films like this the film industry will be a better place.

It is kind of shitty that he is nearly abandoning the one thing that made him famous (AVGN). Although I can understand becoming tired of it.

Just saw it this afternoon and I think it's my favorite film of 2011 so far behind Rango. Bet it's already one of your top ten favorites of the year James.

Abrams did an amazing job recreating the Spielberg magic touch from the late 70s/early 80s with this film. The kids are great, the effects are great, and the story is great. Overall, a great movie!

I saw Super 8 just today and I must say that it is indeed a pretty good movie. Yeah its not perfect but for a guy like me who grew up through the 80's and 90's this was very nostalgic and fun.

Now I must get this off my chest but WTF? James posts a video of him reviewing a movie that is clearly up his alley (I knew it would be when I first heard about it I mean come on its about kids trying to make a no budget horror movie) and then suddenly all these guys come out of the woodwork complaining that it isn't the AVGN? WTF?

I like the Nerd myself and can relate to it since I was a kid when all these came out and I pretty much played most of them back in the day but what surprises me is that I like it a lot but its not my favorite thing about Cinemassacre. To me all of his movie reviews, top ten lists and Monster Madness videos are just awesome and so are his short films (seriously my mouth was wide open the entire time I was watching The Deader the Better. I have seen a LOT of short horror films in my time but this was one of the most impressive ones I had seen!) and all this stiff is the reason I become a big fan, not the AVGN.

Heck I found Cinemassacre when I was bored one night and feeling nostalgic so I decided to look up old movies I saw as a kid that I had not seen since and I stumbled upon James' DeathStalker review and was like "whoa somebody actually took the time to make a new review of the deathstalker movies? I gotta see this!"
After that I started watching his other reviews and top tens and was hooked and did not even know he was the AVGN until I actually did some more digging on the site. Heck at first when I first saw"AVGN" videos on the top I though that maybe he was a friend of the guy or something LOL.

Anyway the point I am trying to make is that its stuff like this in this Comment box that has gotten me to REALLY start to despise the Hard Core Nerd fans. Now I am a fan myself and I know a lot other Nerd fans are great people but man there are so many selfish and idiotic ones out there and it actually surprises me that James cannot review a new film without his comments section being flooded with stuff like (Hey this is not a new nerd video so its bullshit and boring and that other guy is not James or Mike so he sucks!)
When I saw that he was going to talk about Super 8 I was like "Awesome!"

Pretty much I just want James to know that there are some of us out there that are fans of a lot of your Non-nerd stuff as well. Heck if it were not for you movie reviews,top tens and Monster Madness I would not even be checking this place on a daily basis nor would I even bother to write all of this. So please don't stop those and hell if you feel like reviewing other new summer movies please do so, I would love to see them. I am excited about the Angry Video Game Nerd movie and even the shorter episodes and I really am surprised that a lot of your "fans" are still moaning about it I mean heck you did not have to do those shorter reviews nor did you have to change the woman's accent in your new show but you are obviously bending over backwards to please these people and yet you still can't write a movie review in peace heh it kills me. So like I have already stated I have come to were I really despise a lot of your "hardcore" nerd fans.

All the haters need to chill. The man is working on a full length AVGN movie! You should be happy that something this big is going to happen. The website hasn't changed either just one piece is missing and that's because it is being worked on a bigger scale.
