Where do the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles get their money?

  • June 7, 2011 at 7:18 pm

    Welfare. There you have it.

  • 1148BucksX2

    June 7, 2011 at 7:24 pm

It’s not unheard behavior for heroes. The Punisher was never above taking dirty money off the scene after taking out the proverbial garbage in order to finance his war. As a fellow New Yorker, he probably ordered the occasional pie with it, as well.

  • ChetSteadman

    June 7, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Good episode. A lot of people shit all over overanalyzers but I think episodes 1, 4,5 and 6 are all very good. The series will only get better from here I predict.

  • callmeRaskolnikov

    June 7, 2011 at 7:30 pm

the past three overanalyzer episodes have been the best so far. really surprising considering the rate at which you’ve been cranking these things out. also, appreciate the little gag reel after the episode. it’s real nice to see behind the scenes stuff like that. keep up the good work!

p.s. i always just figured Donatello was smart enough to just make a money counterfeiting machine so they could afford whatever they couldn’t find in the garbage or sewer.

  • zackus93

enjoyed the gag reel i hope to see more

    June 7, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I actually laughed when Mike did the Michaelangelo impression with the shit coins. It only took 6 episodes but I finally got a laugh. The rest of it went back to being terrible though.

  • Mr.5150

    June 7, 2011 at 7:52 pm

I never thought that Splinter was such a sneaky guy!

  • June 7, 2011 at 7:53 pm

I think that this episode and the first one are the most spontaneous and random, and maybe that is the way that the show must follow. I like it, and of course it’s not AVGN but I think that the normal people can understand that his takes a lot less time to do, and it’s good to see what other projects came from James and the team that created such an awesome product like AVGN rather than squish to the last drop the main show of this site until it turns in something monotonous.

  • overtheunder1993

    June 7, 2011 at 7:56 pm

Good episode! I don’t really understand the hate for this series. I think it’s pretty entertaining. I love when Mike goes “It’s not a glory hole!!!” haha And his Michaelangelo impression is awesome too.

  • VonKraut

The Turtles are bounty hunters, they catch the bad guys and turn them in for money.

  • Lupin_IV

    June 7, 2011 at 8:02 pm

“Imagine a giant mutant rat that sells crack”

A giant mutant rat that sells crack is basically Verminous Skumm. Therefore, it’s obvious that Captain Planet is just made up of all the surveillance footage of Splinter selling crack, and “Verminous Skumm” is just his drug-dealing alias.

  • stoutfiles

    June 7, 2011 at 8:09 pm

April pays for their food. She visits and gives them money.

The cable is stolen with a splitter. Not admirable but they do need the news.

I thought this was common knowledge? Come on OA, you can do better than this.

  • Actraiser

    June 7, 2011 at 9:01 pm

the gag reel made this one, also ive really noticed this series go from a stiff robotic like looking show to a more relaxed fun show. at first i was pissed something like this was taking away from other projects but now im into it. is it just me or are you really doing alot of turtle stuff?

  • Jigglysaint

    June 7, 2011 at 9:07 pm

You really need to have ADD to get the entire joke. I mean, how does one go from pizza money to Splinter selling crack to Shredder, to Don using his “Bo Staff” on Shredder though a glory hole? Answer is ADD, and that’s why this show is so funny.

April made a deal with them! Thanks to them, she has a lot of coverage for her show, so she gives them half the money she makes …

Either this or she prostitutes them!

Anyway, I think April is involved. She is their first link to the “normal” world, that would be logical.

I love how mike is the only one defending the turtles! “So they sell a little crack…” “If you lived in the sewer, you’d be doing the same thing!”

  • Murphy2112

    June 7, 2011 at 10:56 pm

“Well they saved the city, but they DO sell a lot of crack.”

I haven’t seen any of these before, but that line is gut-busting.

Two in one day. Im very suprised.

Its like robinhood. They do good deeds but must steal for the needy. In this case they are the needy. Stealing stolen money and shit coins. Maybe they talk like idiots because their all coked up all the time.

Stop making these James, you’re just being held down by inferior talent….if you can even call them that.

Wait james, I thought u said this was improve! so y at the end it looks like u where fallowing a script? it may b a retarded question, but im a retarded guy.

    enough Over Analyzers… AVGN man..

  • Crippen

    June 8, 2011 at 4:14 am

It was posited that the turtles searched condoms in order to get their cocaine to sell on the street. Do you know how many used condoms the turtles would have to sort through to find one with cocaine inside? They’d probably make more money reselling the drug-free condoms as balloons than selling the drugs they found. Maybe that’s how they got such a good reputation. Discount children’s balloons.

Best OA yet. While that’s not saying a whole lot, it shows improvement, which is great. It’s nice to see Mike wearing something that’s not all black, all the time. It was also refreshing not to see profanity used as such a crutch. It lets the actual jokes shine through when the humor doesn’t rely on a word being edgy to a 15 year old for its punch. Admittedly, most of it was derived on mixing an edgy topic, controlled substances, with a children’s show, (as opposed to the humor just coming from the overanalyzation) but it’s a step in the right direction from some other Cinemassacre stuff (AVGN’s profanity seems to serve a purpose. He’s angry. Mike’s just seems to be profanity for its own sake.). It’s obvious you’ve been working hard on this, and your effort is showing. Part of the challenge that you face when writing these episodes, though, is that the act of overanalyzing this stuff is oftentimes much more entertaining than watching someone else overanalyze it.

People, stop typecasting James. How is he supposed to get a career in film making if all you’re gonna do is make him swear at video games!?

This show is funny. The only reason people hate this show is because they don’t know the other three performers, and they don’t want to care about them, because all they’re interested in is watching a foul-mouthed nerd take dumps on cartridges. These people need to grow up and broaden their horizons, because this show isn’t going anywhere.

Great episode, nice to see more of Matt. Hope Lee get’s into the discussion a bit more.

  • June 8, 2011 at 8:16 am

I’m definitely loving this show, James. You basically captured on film the very thing that 90% of geek friends do on their own. Freaking hilarious.

The only thing I’d say that is bringing the show down — and just as many others have pointed out so far — is that girl’s accent. If she just spoke with her normal voice, it would be perfectly fine, but whenever she says something it ends up sounding like a poor man’s Bond villain.

Unless that IS her actual voice, of course… in which case I’d feel like a total douche right now.

    June 8, 2011 at 10:18 am

@VGRetro: Nobody is making James do anything. We’re sharing opinions. Sounds like you’re the one that needs to grow up. Who died and made you moderator? Go cry somewhere else. Stop assuming people that don’t like OA are only AVGN fans, I for one like all the rest of Jame’s body of work, his film reviews, his location tours, mini-docs like “dinosaur.”
I’m just not an OA fan.

All that aside, I didn’t mind this episode. Still not my favorite, but I definitely think this is the best so far.

  • The Kaleidoscopic God

    June 8, 2011 at 10:23 am

Basing my reply only on the question “How do the turtles pay for their pizza and cable TV?”:

Unless the question is “where do they get the money”, pizzas could be paid for as seen in the first (I think…) TMNT movie. “Slip it down here.” As for cable, assuming they haven’t discussed bills, maybe Donatello bypasses some thing or another or somehow “borrows” it from some bloke, like some form of oldschool wardriving?

I really ought to watch the thing before throwing in my own thoughts like this, but there you go.

Was pleasantly surprised by this episode – I think it was due to better editing. There were no awkward, grinding halts like in the previous OAs, and it seemed like you spent longer talking about the subject, allowing more interesting stuff to come up. Good job.

    June 8, 2011 at 12:36 pm

    @ rockymou

If you read the previous comments before mine, on this video and other videos, you will have noticed that the majority of them were criticising James for not focusing solely on AVGN. You’d understand the context of my comment that it was aimed at those commentators, and not to fans like us.

The attitude of your comment was uncalled for though; I do not declare myself moderator, I am simply addressing that the AVGN-obsessed commentators are typecasting him, for many comments have the front to say that AVGN is “all he’s good for,” which we know isn’t true. We’re both on the same side, supporting James and all that, so we shouldn’t fight over it.

  • homemacai

    June 8, 2011 at 3:58 pm

This sure was the best OA to the moment, i guess if the show keeps at this direction of humor, it will be as good, or even better than any other here.

  • LordPindar

    June 8, 2011 at 4:25 pm

This one was great, not all of them are, but that can’t be expected either wit a new, and still largely experimental show. I think the main reason for all the objections people have against this show is that they believe it was suposed to permanently replace AVGN, which is not so. Now that the continuation of AVGN was anounced everybody can just lay back and enjoy OA. Besides, I’m sure that it will only get better as it goes on

  • Torus202

    June 8, 2011 at 5:08 pm

The truth is I can’t stand OverAnalyzers, but that doesn’t mean I think James should only do AVGN. I just think “OA” needs some tweeking.

Ideally It should just be James and Mike riffing on stupid topics. Mostly ad libbed and without the bad acting. If other people are needed then I suggest a comlpete re casting.

James said in a recent video that he will be doing AVGN episodes again along with making the movie. He is not stupid, he can see what the majority of his fans want and he is willing to give it to them. Hopefully all the suggestions about how to make “OA” funny will get to him as well and he will change it up for another season.

  • zman

    June 8, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Hey all am new and I love all the AVGN episodes but this show is not that funny to me. I think if the russian bitch leaves it would be a lot batter. tmnt is the best.

  • ashadeofdarkness

    June 8, 2011 at 6:46 pm

They’re ninjas…. NINJAS STEAL. They’re essentially a branch of the foot-clan (Avenging splinter would lead to reconciliation), so they probably steal. In the movies the humans get the food-except the first pizza in TMNT 1. I’d assumed April left them money. So they steal and get money from their human friends. Maybe they happen upon money in the sewers or splinter can it sniff it out with that big schnauze of his- Maybe Donatello has a counterfeiting machine.

OV has been hit and miss but, overall I dig OA. They’ll need to make more eps. to cement the brand and, In doing so I’d assume the quantity of quality eps. will increase. They’ve only done six eps, less then 10 minutes each.

Gotta give them credit, they do it on their own.

Everyone complaining: Go create something original with a group friends in your spare time and see how quick and smoothly you can start spinning out gold.

They aren’t comedians and, writing humor is not at all easy. writing niche humor is even harder.

I think they’re doing an awesome job, and should be supportive if/unless a decent run has absolutely fallen flat. Much research and development goes on behind the scenes of every show/movie- I’m sure they’re working out the kinks and, will hit their stride if you just give em some love.

  • ctu

    June 8, 2011 at 7:25 pm

I thought they just recycled…I am sure a lot of people drop cans and such into the sewers and that can be worth quiet a bit of money 😀

  • June 8, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I’m noticing that this episode is getting a lot more positive feedback than previous episodes. Maybe people needed to warm up to something new first.

I hope you are reading all this feedback James. You and Mike and the others are doing a great job.

  • June 8, 2011 at 7:45 pm

It goes without saying, but all of you trolls saying this show sucks need to stfu. This is James’ project, you saying it sucks is obviously not enough to say to him that he should stop. Besides, your opinion means less than you seem to think to those of us who actually give a creative person a chance to create. You think far too highly of yourselves. If all you want is AVGN (and I just bet you’ll complain with the new episodes of that, as they’ll be more like the earlier ones) then you should only watch AVGN. Closed minded fucktards.

    @ashadeofdarkness: Well said.

    Good episode guys.

  • June 8, 2011 at 8:27 pm

The problem with this show is that it’s not serious enough- THIS SHOULD BE SERIOUS BUSINESS. I want to know where the turtles get their money! and I want to know if Ernest is really GOD!

  • stauken

    June 8, 2011 at 9:13 pm

I really gotta say, I don’t know if it is the topics being more relevant to my interests on these last two or what but they actually were quite good. I didn’t have any real outstanding issues with the others but I would not have rated any of them above average. These last two pulled off an excellent quality. With the proposed changes moving forward, OA looks to be something else I’ll be waiting for on cinemassacre on whatever schedule you decide to make it release on 🙂

  • June 8, 2011 at 9:45 pm

I will be frank … I don’t like the show a lot, but i still support it because I don’t hate it neither.

The champion of all the problems i have with it is the video resolution. It is HUGE. It take so much time to my pc to load this I really give up and never see the video. The fact is i want to see the show… But the default resolutions just looks super HD and it is not even in HD, and i dont want to know what could happen with the buffering in case i activate it =(. I just say there should be a second option for those who can’t see the show in high resolutions.

  • handsome pete

    June 8, 2011 at 10:39 pm

Even though it’s literally impossible to survive in sewers without stealing, Splinter lived in sewers long before he was mutated, and has no plans to leave. He only cares about fighting Shredder, and usually he sends his students to do it for him, even though he knows they have no way of beating him. And he’s a ninja, which is basically Japanese for ‘terrorist spy.’ So yes, of course he steals, and he doesn’t care. The Turtles don’t like crime, however, which is why they try to get jobs and recycle cans, even though it can’t possibly get enough money to get all the pizza, weapons, machine parts, and other things they need. It’s also possible that April is supplying them. If you think about it, April is probably a pretty famous reporter, and it’s mostly because of the Turtles. Maybe they help her all the time because April is making it worth their while? I have seen both Splinter and April give them money.

People flush cocaine down their toilets?!?!That gives the word random a whole new meaning!!!Unfunny as hell and believe me that’s too much for a show that James play.I saw commercials with James which are funnier. Also the random guys keeps saying random things.AND THE REASON OF THE SHOW???Were does turtles find their money.I have something for the OA.”WHO THE FUCK HOLDS A GUN IN FRONT OF JAMES FACE AND MAKES HIM DO THESE THINGS!!!!???”I will sure like the OA to talk about it!!!Seriously don’t waste your releases James on thoses craps.Your release are cool cause they are shit!!!This one is not shit is crap.Skip the crap bring the shit!!!!!

Suzie I think her name is, the German one… she’s really annoying.

  • jimgetzey

    June 9, 2011 at 6:41 am

Definitely a stronger episode but Suzie needs to drop the accent, she’s doing it wrong. Russians don’t say “the”. They have no articles in their language. “We go to store” not “we go to the store”. “I have book” not “I have a book”

    It’s irritating and poorly done.

The concept of this show is interesting.

Why does that chick have to talk in that HORRIBLE and fake Russian accent? It’s annoying and I end up hitting the back button when she starts talking.

Seriously…why does she have a “gimmick” and the rest of you guys are more or less playing the part of yourself?

    Nails on a chalk board…

  • podok

    June 9, 2011 at 11:25 am

You know…I really wish Stephanie Yuhas had more to say sometimes…I realize its only episode 6…but she just sits there most of the time…looking lost and confused, and sometimes eating. Did you guys put her on just because of her history with the cinemassacre group? Or did you need a girl so you wouldn’t appear sexist? Whats her deal? SPEAK UP GIRL! Don’t let the guys talk over you all the time for Christ sakes! Not hatin…just speakin on what I see as a fan of cinemassacre and Steph’s past work.

  • June 9, 2011 at 11:26 am

wanna hear another over analyzer why do u have to write mike as mike james as james etc why not write ur names lol idk it bugs me and i who is the german chick?? super annoying who is she one of theier wives? does anyone know

  • DokiDokiP

    June 9, 2011 at 11:51 am

    @Dennis Rivas
If you paid attention, James is actually Jim. I guess that would actually make you an “UnderAnalyzer”? As for the woman who plays Susie, I’m unsure, but I saw hear when they were all tasting the weird pizzas, that’s not her real accent.

  • kaltblut1

    June 9, 2011 at 12:12 pm

And it for sure is not a German accent.

    It’s an eastern european one.

  • June 9, 2011 at 12:30 pm

Well, the T.V. clearly had rabbit ears… I think they are penny pinchers. Donatello could be selling patents to his inventions they might also take donations from the public. Perhaps they take on the odd assassination job, they are ninjas you know…

  • June 9, 2011 at 12:48 pm

oh ok i didnt notice james as jim lol still that lady accent is annoying as hell wonder who she is

  • June 9, 2011 at 2:29 pm

Hmm i like the idea and the way the show looks, the Ernest one is my fav so far, i think because it was longer and afew more ideas were tossed around.
It would be cool if the group kept the flow going a little longer and put abit more depth into the conversation befor coming to the end. Yeah and if that lass didnt have lines that killed the conversation or lead it to dead ends that are abit meh. People might like her daft accent charactor abit more dont lose the charactor its a good idea, mebe find a better way to implement her so shes not killing conversations…or is that what she does…i donno i dont wanna sound like a dick i was trying to be constructive and helpful meh…im a dick sorry lol. Il keep watching tho, soon as shredder gives me some good shit! XD

I’m sorry…I just don’t find any of these episodes funny at all. I wish I did because I’ve been religiously watching all of the other things you put out with enthusiasm. I mean I love the Board James, Bullshit, movie reviews, and AVGN stuff…but these just grind on my nerves. I get that you are supposed to be ‘over’ analyzing the subjects on hand but nothing comes off as funny at all. I really hate to say it but I wish you’d just scrap this project and work on something else…AKA some more Board James videos. At least those don’t come off as forced.

  • June 9, 2011 at 9:14 pm

How about AVGN instead of this BS Overanalyzer crap? Throw me a bone damnit…I’d even accept a YKWBS or a Board James. Many of us probably believe you’re going in the wrong direction, James.

kill the girl off. thats the only answer to make this series better. Have James (Jim) throw a pen off the white board, ricochet, and his her in the eye, poking her brain so she has fatal brain damage.

sorry that was mean and completely overdramatized haha…. but yeah i dont really like her character at all… everyone else is good, mostly because james and mike carry the conversation.

This episode made me chuckle, which I sadly can’t say for the previous episodes. I think the series has potential though, but it will need adjustments. It’s too bad that all you have to go on are the relentless rantings in the comments section.

After seeing all of the asshole comments, I’ve decided to try my best at giving some helpful feedback.

Here’s how I feel about the show, good and bad:

    1. Susie.
I honestly think she’ll be alright without the accent. People have said that she’ll be dropping it. I’m glad, because I’ve given it some thought as to why the accent doesn’t fit. I think it’s that everyone else seems to be themselves while she is portraying a character resulting in a huge clash. The only way for her to seem normal would be if everyone on the show started talking in Russian accents. Obviously that’s a bad idea.

    2. Video clips.
The clips from the related shows and whatnot are fantastic. This is where Rolfe’s style really shines and makes me crack up every time. “Shredder: Crack?! WHERE!?” Fucking classic.

    3. Names at the beginning.
I see why you are doing it like that, but maybe just use the character names at the beginning and then at the end have a cast list and have for example: “Jim – James Rolfe Mike – Mike Matei”

    4. Character confusion.
Everyone portraying a character is interesting, but only Jim and Susie? Or maybe it’s only names? The discussions don’t involve their characters, other than Susie’s accent (maybe that’s why she has it). The characters could develop specific traits, or maybe if the characters had flashbacks or thought bubbles during the episodes.

    5. Slightly more serious?
Someone commented that it’s not serious enough. This might be true. While juvenile discussions can be funny at times, there might be a bit too much here. It would be cooler to have suggestions that are believable and make sense. I think that would actually make it funnier. Each person needs to think more about each subject for a while and maybe even research before the actual discussion.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps. James, I enjoy all your videos and appreciate the work you put into them.

I’m pretty sure Susie has a Hungarian accent, not a Russian one.

Sorry Xen11, I’m going to have to disagree with you on that one… Susie doesn’t fit with the rest of the characters and sounds like she should be chasing down moose and squirrel. It isn’t a matter of it being funny or not but the fact that everyone else in the show is pretty much acting normally as they would were this an actual discussion they were in and she has some off suit character trait that seems like its only purpose is to make her stand out (that sounds pretty selfish to me)

I mean if perhaps she played more into the character and her comments were based off of a heavy russian background (without getting into a whole Yakov Smirnoff thing… because that would sound so much better 😛 “in mother Russia pizza eats turtles!”) but as it stands the accent holds no point it’s like Chekhov’s gun it’s there but it’s not being used.

So far I am enjoying the OverAnalyzers, despite all the hate the series seems to be getting. I do think the Optimus Prime was probably the low point in the series so far. I think the entire, pepper/fly shit/boxing gloves thing just really confused and took a lot of people out of the episode(that’s what it did for me at least). The last three episodes have been really good though there was always at least one part that got me laughing so I’m still looking forward to future episodes.

    Hi’ James & Co.
I have watched all the OA episodes and I must say that this is the best by far! Also liked the James bloopers at the end! ;o) Keep making them like this one and you got the crowd on your side! :o)
The older ones were okay and at times funny, but mostly not that great! Sorry! Looking forward to the next episode! :o)

@m0an – You don’t need a “signal” with cable like you would with an antenna or satellite…

Still very bad, I would much rather see your time going to “reviews” or any one of your other projects than this. When I first saw what you guys were going to be trying to do, I thought it would be “real life” related things somewhat. Not stuff about cartoons that no one cares about. I know that’s the whole point, but still could be properly done to be interesting.

Some have mentioned maybe people expecting you to be in a “Character” like form, but I think a lot of your videos that you and Mike do that are just yourselves and or not seeming like your in character come out way better because you guys are just being yourself and I think that’s what you guys need to do here?? I don’t know, I just know these are not interesting or funny and just seems like a waste to be honest. This is like 12 yr old stuff….

Thanks though for finally getting her to cut the fake accent. That was just bad, now hopefully the episodes will get better starting with episode 9 and above. Maybe that’s why these aren’t doing that well because you guys went and filmed so many in one day, instead of taking time to come up with something better/original and just spend the time making that one or maybe even two episodes as opposed to just pumping out as many as you can in one day? I’ll wait till see what happens up to episode 10 or 11 and if it hasn’t got better then definitely won’t be watching these anymore…

  • June 20, 2011 at 5:02 am

I’d be happy if Susie was just Stephanie playing Stephanie in her normal American accent. All the characters are just being fictional versions of themselves while Susie is the only character thats not based on the actress herself.

  • July 4, 2011 at 12:40 am

I kinda agree with the people here. Susie should drop the accent.

    C’mon guys.
What on earth makes you think you can dictate what she should or should not do? If she decided to have the accent – by all means let her do it. I find it funny. It makes her look like a soviet or somewhat professor which makes it even funnier like she is an expert and talking knowingly about the silly stuff they discuss.
    Give her a break.

    I can’t believe I’m going to leave a semi-serious comment about this!!!

Ok, seek out the doccumentary “Dark Days,” directed by Mark Singer. Or where I started, the book “The Mole People: Life in the Tunnels Beneath New York City,” by Jennifer Toth. Both are about the homeless population that live in tunnels beneath NYC. I’ve read quite a few articals as well. I’m not an expert, but I did do some homework before I even saw this. I just didn’t know where to apply it.

It isn’t glamourous, but down there, people do self-sustain. And they seem to self-sustain BETTER than the “homeless” folks that live topside.

I use homeless in quotes, because these folks seem to have a home. Squatters, yes, but a home none the less.

I’ve seen and read about folks with electricity, hot showers and even one community that dodged the question “are there children down here?” The answer was (paraphrase maybe) ” We don’t wan’t Child Protective Services down here. We take care of our own.”

I was shocked after a bit of reading as to some of what was going on! And that was about REAL people!

Now, if your reasonable suspention of disbelief will allow for a mutant turtle, not just any turtle, but a mutant turtle in it’s teens. Oh, wait, not any Mutant Turtle in it’s teens, they hath ninja abilities. Why not go the whole way?

There is a presidence for living in the sewers and such. It can be done. For Mutant Turtles in their Teenage years, with ninja powers? Those folks tend to keep to themselves.

So I’ve figured out that when the TMNT aren’t fighting the forces of evil, they are very clearly going through garbage cans looking for deposit bottles/cans. And they probably garbage-pick/dumpster dive everything they got! Before you poo-poo, I remember a tunnel dweller that had a freaking leather couch! In his words: “You’d be suprised at what people throw out.”

We’ve all heard of the story of the panhandeler that makes more in a day than we do.

Sure, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Panhandeler/Dumpster-Diver/Garbage Picker Turtles doesn’t have the same ring as Teenage Mutant NINJA Turtles, but there you are.

So that is my two pennies.

And why does everyone hate Suzie? I don’t mind her at all. Every Buck Rogers must have a Tweekie. And don’t get me started on OG Buck Rogers, cause I have a bunch of those. Differant critter from the 80’s version.

This is a similar subject to Robin Hood. He and his crew stole from the rich and gave to the poor, after they removed a small percentage to maintain their crime fighting activities. You also haven’t factored in royalties. With Tshirts, toys, lunch boxes, etc. they are raking in the dough.
