Well, all I can say to you James and your crew is I wish you great success, and I certainly know you will make an excellent product by the end since of course all of your video editing, filming etc. is done extraordinarily well, and all your videos in general reflect your abilities.

Thank you for all your hard work James, it has brought me and many that I know years of joy!

    June 1, 2011 at 12:42 am

All I can say is THANKS! By the way, you have a lot of fans in Newfoundland… If you know where that is lol.

  • June 1, 2011 at 12:44 am

Personally, I think your AVGN episodes have been taking a backseat to your Movie Reviews for me, anyway. Not to slam them, they’re fuckin’ sweet, but I find myself looking forward to the Reviews more.

Also, if he can/wants to, I think it’d be awesome if Motherfucker Mike started reviewing some of his/your massive DVD collection, like the movies themselves. Keep up the awesome.

I don’t know a single movie producer, and I’m not an actor, but you have my support. I can’t wait to see the AVGN movie.

  • BigBoss

    June 1, 2011 at 12:53 am

hell I loved the basic format of your old videos, it shows more anger and frustrations you had with the games, than putting up a show more of what is happening with the newer episodes. Not to say your recent episodes aren’t good, there informative about the game, that’s nice and all, however lets see a pissed of avgn, kicking the !@%& out of a cartridge, because its Bulls%@t.

hey james, just wana say, you can stall the nerd episodes as long as you want to work on the movie. it gives you more free time to work on it and it will give us more time to feel fresh when a new episode comes. i would help if i can. i wish i am an actor of sum sort so that i can act for ur movie, and i wish im at least a working man so that i have money to help u. too bad im none of those things. all i can do is watch your shit and enjoy. anyway, good luck with your movie, thx for bringing the joy that you had brought for the past few years.

Thanks for everything you have done so far James. You are awesome and I can’t wait to see the AVGN movie!

  • June 1, 2011 at 12:57 am

Cool deal..I wish i could help….Im guessing James will be directing the film..I cant wait..I admire how hard he works…It inspires me to work harder on my stuff..http://www.youtube.com/user/whyhuman?feature=mhee I can’t seem to quit no matter what anyone tells me.Im going to try to start releasing at least two animations a month.Thank you James..Keep up the good work..:)

Totally psyched to hear you are continuing with the normal episodes. I was beginning to think we’d see an extended hiatus or the end of AVGN until the movie. I’m sure it’ll be quite an undertaking, but the fans definitely appreciate it big time (like myself). Also, imo, the last time you took a small break (last year), I thought the videos came back very strong and very funny.

One day we’ll have to come to terms of no more Nerd, but at least it’s not today! Keep on keepin’ on James.

  • Jigglysaint

    June 1, 2011 at 12:59 am

Good to hear that you will make some more AVGN episodes. That’s fine if they are basic like 2006. Besides, arn’t there a ton of games that really there isn’t much content than like 4 miniutes? I like the idea of shorter episodes released here and there just to keep the Nerd in our minds for the next few years. Of course we have all the other Cinemassacre content too to watch.

    June 1, 2011 at 1:04 am

Hey guys!…New AVGN episodes coming soon? Sounds great! And having them go back to just standard game reviews doesn’t sound bad at all to me! I was never big on the episodes with lots of theatrics.
Good luck with the movie. Doesn’t bother me it will take a few years to make. That’s much better than slapping something together real quick. Take your time with it….but man.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:05 am

Holy fuck, dude. What a fucking trooper. Wish I had motivation like that. Then again, this video looks almost like a terrorist “read this while I hold a gun to your head” thing, so hopefully that’s not the case.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:05 am

I want to see an American Movie style documentary about you making your movie. Just make sure you get an old guy who can’t remember his lines…

It’s alright, it’s okay… there’s something to live for! Jesus told me so!

  • Elvenking

    June 1, 2011 at 1:07 am

Ohh god yes!! Yes…yes…yes! You hit it when you said any nerd episodes are better than none. I think they are the HEART of the following as well. Yes..please…give me something to look forward to on a random weekend…I love it! Trash a game…say “shit load of fuck” again…I will be there. I love your style. I know it’s a selfish love for your work…but I think all will agree when i say…we love the AVGN episodes. Thank you thank you thank you. Your work makes my day every time I see one. Long Live AVGN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:09 am

How about donations? Would that help at all with production?

  • handsome pete

    June 1, 2011 at 1:09 am

Just double the time that it takes to put out a Nerd video again. I don’t know, I have no idea how long things take. Do the movie reviews and Board James eat up lots of time? Are they coming out less? Or less good?

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:12 am

I would like to make a suggestion. I love the AVGN episodes. I watch them over and over again and like many viewers was disappointed when you said the show as going on hiatus. However, I’ve been watching your turtle shows — the review of the cartoon series, the review of the board games and it was the review of the board games that got me thing this. I’m glad that you have decided to bring back the nerd however, I was thinking that if you couldn’t do the nerd while you’re making your movie, could you have turned the Turtle Tuesdays into video game reviews. Do those game reviews like you did your turtle board game review, just as yourself. I know you’ve already done the original TMNT as AVGN however, do for instance TMNT The Arcade Game and The Manhattan Project as yourself, especially since those games don’t fit into the AVGN show anyway since those are both pretty decent games. It would allow you to not have to do a big AVGN show and yet still kind of quench our thirst for video game reviews at the same time. Any way, just thought I would throw that out there. Sorry this is so long.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:12 am

James….you are my hero. not because you’re starting to make more AVGN stuff again, but because you’re going to try and balance both the movie and web series at THE SAME TIME. that’s incredible. nuff said. lol. :)

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:12 am

Just a note to say that… Holy cow, I just noticed you can resize the text entry area. How badass is that? I don’t know what point it serves, but it served to distract me. That’s pretty cool… in a pointless sort of way.

Anyway I am looking forward to the movie, and I’m gonna keep hitting up your site on a regular basis anyway, you’ve managed to fill up your lineup with new stuff, Mike is putting out his game glitches and other stuff, so there’s plenty of stuff to keep me coming back. Just do what you need to do, looking forward to shitty nerd episodes, because yeah, you know what, I think that IS better than no nerd episodes.

  • SomeCuriousGuy

    June 1, 2011 at 1:16 am

I am really looking forward for this movie and I wish you the best luck with making it, Mr. Rolfe.
But I would preffer to wait for the episodes, because I think quality does matter. And you could use the time to produce the movie.
But of course I´ll like the new episodes when the come out, I don´t want to criticize your decission, I just think efficiently – at least I hope so! :)

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:19 am

I’m really looking forward to this AVGN movie. I hope you get a lot of support from your friends and fans. I love all the things you and Mike do, If you can keep making stuff like you always do while making the movie, that would be great. Keep up the awesome work.

  • anstca

    June 1, 2011 at 1:22 am

Can’t wait for the movie I hope things fall in line and you can make a really good movie without losing all your sanity. Glad to know the nerd is coming back but if you need to take some time off from it to make your movie do so, I mean this is your dream where talking about.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:25 am

Men, I support you James, we as your fans must be with you and this is a really stressful goal in your life.

I want to thank you for all that 100 videos, you Inspired me and you already prove what you can give to the world so man, take it easy, we must be gland instead of angry for no more videos.

You give us a gift with your talent, and you must forget the usual Internet Rant, this is your life, this is your goal, go for it.

I think what I am trying to say is, Go for it! Don´t stop to think about us it is your time man, give it a shot!

      August 10, 2013 at 8:16 pm

Unfortunately I think you’re wrong, as many of the fans only see him as the AVGN and simply don’t know that he also wants to direct and make movies. But in a way you can say they’re not really fans of James, but rather of the AVGN show… but there would be a lot of bitching and moaning, I am sure of it. Let’s hope it’ll never end, only then he’s like 70 years old hahaha.

  • Hardwatch

    June 1, 2011 at 1:25 am

Looking forward to the movie. You should definitely do a behind the scene thing. I always like to watch behind the scenes footage of movies like b-rolls and stuff like that.

If you make a dvd too you can count on me to buy it.

  • sufferblind86

    June 1, 2011 at 1:27 am

The earlier episodes of AVGN were great. Going back to the basics feels like it will change things up and keep it a little more fresh.

  • ninjalinkninja

    June 1, 2011 at 1:28 am

You rock, James. Hey, it’s not for us to say what you should do, so go at your own pace. I wouldn’t mind at all if you focused on the movie, it’s going to be awesome.

  • lucktacular

    June 1, 2011 at 1:28 am

James, thank you for the awesome news. Your logic is correct about shittier episodes being better than none at all. I was very excited to hear about an AVGN movie, but when I realized that you probably wouldn’t be releasing any new episodes while you worked on that I was sad. Thank you for not making that be the case.

Your work is among the funniest I’ve ever watched. I promise I’ll be among the first to buy your movie when it’s finished. Good luck with the filmmaking process. I know you guys can pull off a masterpiece!

  • Mr. Yellow

    June 1, 2011 at 1:34 am

You do so much James…between AVGN and just your regular reviews and the like. It’s great. Thanks!

  • OdeForCruelty

    June 1, 2011 at 1:36 am

I like the more basic episodes just as well, there’s no need building some kind of a plot for each of them. Good luck with the movie, James! Can’t wait to see what you’re coming up with.

  • NDean

    June 1, 2011 at 1:36 am

I’m happy you’re making the movie James and going for your goals. :) I found your site by accident and couldn’t stop laughing with the Friday the 13th episode, and my sisters were cracking up too because we had just made fun of the movies. I have to say, best accident I ever had! I love your site. Your videos in general are so fun to look forward to seeing every night before I go sleep and yes, the AVGN series I believe is your best thing you have going here because people can relate to the gaming, like the classics, and your humor is right up my alley. They are well done, so having “shitty” episodes is fine by me because your comments alone make it funny. Keep making those episodes (without killing yourself lol), keeping doing the stuff you love, and you’ll always have your fans support. Good luck with the movie, can’t wait to see it :)

    June 1, 2011 at 1:36 am

    Hey James,

It’s interesting that you posting a video on this, because I’ve been thinking about the EXACT same topic. While the AVGN nerd in me can’t get enough(it’s the main reason I visit this site), I wouldn’t want you to do it if it meant that the quality of the movie suffered. TAKE YOUR TIME. It’s not like any of us have anything better to do with our time. (heh, heh) And when you come back, we’ll still be waiting. Oh, and one more thing. As much as I would hate to see the AVGN go, I think that you should retire the character if you ever felt it has grown stale. While it would be a sad day, I would much rather see the Nerd go out on a high note, than to slowly waste away. Anyway, that’s it. Good luck James, and have a nice day!

Hey James, that’s terrific. However, please do not use any caps, you’re losing hair.

    Casting: Me, James, Motherfucker Mike.

    Preproduction done, lets get started.

    Thanx for the update

U guys are looking at the next Spilberg or Lucas …. U r awesome James, and thanks for the comming shitty episodes… that’s better than nothing :)

    June 1, 2011 at 1:39 am

YOu are doing ok :) Just keep doing high quality stuff please :)

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:43 am

I guess on “paper” the only skills I have is 3 years of theatre experience. Which includes acting, building sets, painting sets, crew (holding certain props or moving parts of the set), placing microphones on actors, and some makeup work.
The best I could do is a small role, or be an assistant of some kind. I also live in New Hampshire, so that’s a good distance away.

  • AnAddictedGamer

    June 1, 2011 at 1:46 am

Basic episodes might not be a shitty idea after all, I kinda like em.

  • Rob

    June 1, 2011 at 1:46 am

I think i pretty much know what the story entails for the movie and i love it already. I didn’t think you’d do both movie and show but hey, if you think you can handle it. I don’t think your fans will complain if you stopped. Their pretty loyal, Long live the Nerd

  • SanjiX

    June 1, 2011 at 1:47 am

Between me and you, James, I personally think that the Nerd episodes should just be stick to being on hold. We can tell the Nerd movie needs your whole attention, and continuing on with the Nerd series will further delay the movie for sure.

If it takes 2+ years or whatever, then fine. We still got 101 episodes to run back to when we need our Nerd fix. If you want make maybe an episode like maybe once or twice or year (for like Christmas or whatever), that’s fine.

I just feel the way you announced that the episodes were coming back was a decision you didn’t want to make. Do what you think is right, James.

  • Lionhearte

    June 1, 2011 at 1:47 am

Sounds like a plan James. I didn’t know it takes that long to make a movie, especially pre-production. It makes me wonder what some of the big name studios have in plan for movies that we won’t see for another couple of years.

Anyways, it sounds like it’s going to be great to watch, so I’ll be looking forward to watching it. I’m curious though, will you be hosting the entire movie on your site to watch for free? or will it be released as a movie for a few bucks?

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:50 am

Thanks for the update James, your fans are here to support you man. I’m actually surprised you’re going to put out nerd episodes, your multitasking is insane and much appreciated. I think you have a big group of fans that would actually really enjoy seeing a return to the quick, early nerd style episodes. I personally miss the raw, less produced style from the early days sometimes, in a way it’ll be refreshing to see this approach to the videos again. Keep it up man, we’re excited to see more stuff!

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:51 am

I support this. I actually like the more basic and informative formula on what makes the game bad type of episodes.

  • wtfisyoda6913

    June 1, 2011 at 1:52 am

James…You are the man Wow! Movie and episodes!? Your badass!! I mean ive been watching all your episodes to try and hold me over. Well i just wanted to say good luck James and we look forward to your masterpiece.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:53 am

I think the less involved/less production involved in the episodes, it’s almost for the better. While the idea is to be able to devote a lot more attention to the film, I think the break period will allow a lot more games to be reviewed that don’t necessarily have 15/20 minutes worth of material in them. It’ll be able to give those games a chance while still giving the fans their fix and allowing the movie a good opportunity to get completed.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:55 am

The smallest of things can turn out to be some of the world most beloved series. I found AVGN back when you just released the Wizerd and Mario 3 stuff and i was so unkown to the world of the NES simply beacuse i grew up right when the SNES came out and i played the NES but new nothing about it. And thanks to Screwattack and you James i now own my own NES Ive got Mario, Castlevania, Mega Man 2 and a few others. You and my brother are like the exact same age and grew up with the same games and everything. So i think in alot of ways you remind me of a time when i was just a kid with my brother and yes he swears like a sailor to. And i’m happy with any AVGN stuff you give us, you left off on a high note with the Spielberg stuff and its making us want some ET action but that may be what the movie is about.

So take your time with the movie, and i want to say thank you so very much for what you’ve done thus far and the future.

    Wich you all the luck!

This clip was scary because of the E.T – Doll standing there and staring at James.

    June 1, 2011 at 1:58 am

As a movie maker myself (mostly script and directing) it’s amazing to see you actually doing both the episodes and the feature film! I would not be able to do anythink like that. That’s really great of you.
I’d love to be a part of the film in any sort of way, but since I live in Sweden that might be a hard thing to do.
I’d love to see some behind-the-scenes footage of you directing. You are directing, aren’t you? Always thought you would, but I can’t recall you saying you would. Maybe the script and playing the lead role is enough.
Not gonna drag it out. Are you directing the film?

I don’t think it has been suggested but why not make a page over at Kickstarter? Figure it would be perfect to help for funding ^^

love you james! thanks for continuing the episodes; you are very good to us fans :)

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:02 am

I hope the script can get some revisions soon for new and old fans. I am glad James is taking time and not rushing himself, sorta like Terrance Malick.

  • blackcrimson1986

    June 1, 2011 at 2:03 am

Love your work James! Great to hear you’re doing both the movie and episodes! Good luck with it all man!

  • Hating4AM

    June 1, 2011 at 2:03 am

James you are one hard working mother fu-… well, I’ll leave the swearing up to you.

A lot of people say they like AVGN episodes now, but LOVE the old AVGN episodes. I’m not bashing on one crowd or the other but I love it all, and I mean that honestly.

I’m happy with some rather than none. Hell I was happy with the thought of no episodes knowing that a full-length AVGN feature film was on it’s way. Yet, here we are, getting even more great news about the Nerd.

My hat goes off to you, although I don’t ever wear one…

My proverbial hat goes off to you? Whatever lol. Ya got my respect, guy.

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:03 am

Travis Metcalf has a great idea about doing video game reviews as yourself James. I think maybe that’s something you could do and just give us your perception of what you went through when you played them as a kid. There are a lot of great games out there that need exposure just as much, if not more than the bad ones. I think that’s a great idea. It would probably be quicker to do too since you already know the good games from your youth, which was my youth too since we’re from the same generation.

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:07 am

Hmm… will the movie be E.T. related?

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:08 am

I don’t think that the “theatrics” necessary made the episodes good. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciated them, but if you have clever, funny, or just interesting things to say about a game I don’t think you need costumes or effects.

  • G.TheDuke

    June 1, 2011 at 2:08 am

I think the fact that you’ve stuck to the Nerd episodes this long is a feat in itself, but to say I would be disappointed with no more Nerd episodes is an understatement. I’m happy to hear that the world of AVGN isn’t going to rest while the movie is running through its infant stages (though definitely the most difficult and time consuming). The demand is there for sure and, even though they’ll be striped down AVGN episodes, I’m sure they’ll still deliver the goods. It’s good to know that I won’t have to watch all the episodes again for a 3rd time (fuck I need to get out of the house).
So yeah, a big thank-you from all the fans is in order (thanks!).
Good luck with it all James!

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:09 am

Great update James! I am excited for the movie (whenever it comes out) and excited for the new nerd episodes. I am kinda excited actually that you are going back to the basics with them. (although your idea of basic still blows the crap out of the majority of video producers online) You don’t always need huge production and theatrics to make the Nerd great. Hell, my favorite episodes are from the first 2 years or so of you doing them.

Keep on doing what you do, and I will keep supporting you!

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:09 am

I registered just now, especially so I could post this comment. I want you to know you have inspired hundreds, if not thousands or millions of people to go out and create films based on their dreams and theirs alone as you have encouraged in some of your own films.

It’s awesome, frankly, that someone could do something that started as a project and come out as one of the most interesting, damn funny, and inspiring videos for people, whether it be your movies, AVGN or Board James films- no matter what, you never let it get to your head, and you do what you love. And that is what inspired me to do come out with my own ideas for filming.

The world needs more people like you, good sir! I know I can speak for everyone here when I say I- no.. WE wish you only the best with your dreams, ideas and final drafts (lol), because we all know you will always have a message to bring out, a passion to work with, and a movie (or many movies/films) that will touch the hears, and, as stated before, inspire millions for years to come.

My hat’s off to you, my friend. I thank you.

James you do a lot for the whole Cinemassacre community, and while you get a lot of recognition and praise, you get a lot of shit from fans too. Most of us are people you’ll never have the chance to meet. For my part, I just wanted to say thanks. I’ll always support the work you put out whether it be buying it on DVD or seeing it in theaters. You’ve given thousands of people hundreds of hours worth of quality entertainment in pursuing your dreams with no expectation or demand for monetary consideration from us in return. Having passion for what you do is what separates those who are successful from those that fall short. So here’s a big thanks from one of your fans. I look forward to the movie, and can’t believe you’re gonna try and do episodes in the meantime as well!

  • jaykhunter

    June 1, 2011 at 2:12 am

I’m torn between saying “forget the AVGN episodes, just concentrate on the movie” and saying you made right choice. It sounds like you don’t really want to do both the movie and the new episodes. But definitely, the script is all that matters. Cutting down on the post-production will really help out. Maybe consider teaming up with video editors to post-produce/edit your AVGN episodes? Like the guys at ScrewAttack?

Either way, more nerd is awesome. I really don’t mind just watching re-runs until you fulfill your goal of an AVGN movie. You’ve given us so much, you should really just concentrate on what you want.

Looking forward to the new episodes! (but i’ll understand if they fall by the wayside)…. best of luck with getting financing etc

The internet has a bad case of ADD. The production quality on AVGN is what sets it apart from most web shows. By focusing to much on the movie the “buzz” you have generated will fade away.
Its a long road ahead cinemassacre I’m sure you will make it.

  • Zombiesex

    June 1, 2011 at 2:13 am

Im pleased to see that the older episodes are going to follow an older standard. Ide rather have nerd episodes like they were rather than what they have become if it means actual episodes. Good luck on the movie

just promise us all you won’t work yourself to death, james. simple episodes can be good, but if it comes down to the series and your mental/physical health like it has in the past, put yourself first.

that said, i look forward to new episodes!

This is probably the greatest video put on this site in months, because of the hope it brings. Classic-style AVGN episodes!

    Wait shit

Am I going to have to change my account to WHAR MONSTER MADNESS?

    Mike/James,
If you guys decide to do an independent film, you might want to check out http://www.kickstarter.com
You can ask for pledges for kick starting projects, films, etc.
It might be a good place to start, if you can get an idea of some amount of money you need.

You have all my support James , just keep AVGN alive and I would really prefer basic AVGN episodes, it is all about the past after all , where all the fancy editing and visual effects did not even exist …

Good luck, James. I really appreciate you are trying to, in addition to doing the movie, continue with the chapters. It doesn’t matter if they are short or long, if you made them they will always be funny.

As I’ve said, good luck with the movie, James. Greetings from Spain.

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:27 am

If people want new AVGN I say put your money where your mouth is or just let them make their movie!

I understand that you guys have a big project on your hands so I really don’t mind if that would result for lacking of updates in your existing shows. I have no knowledge about filming but everybody would agree that its not that easy at all… so for that, I do understand what you’re trying to achieve here.. so I won’t ask much except that you guys do your best at your movie project >=)

Just keep on doing what you have to do, James. Looking forward for your movie ;)

    Thank you very much!

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:29 am

Very candid blog, I have been amazed with the work you have been doing with your TMNT videos every week. Just like with your Monster Madness videos as a fan of horror and TMNT I really appreciate the hard work you put in.

I am also a AVGN fan and really anticipate your videos recently the TMNT ones even more than your AVGN ones.

I wonder if by a certain time if a studio or production company or something doesn’t come on board with finance if you would be interested in starting a Kick Starter for this project. I am sure there are other avenues to go about it but I have seen some people have success with Kick starter. Although I don’t know how many fans would be interested in donating towards the film it is probably more than I might think it would be.

Keep up the great work and don’t kill yourself with all the work you do =)

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:30 am

You know.. If you’re having such stress with both the movie and the actual episodes, then focus on the movie. And if you want to keep making short-movies with the AVGN, just make something new like “James Play’s”. It could be as simple as just 10 minutes of gameplay with you commenting as you’re playing, but in the character of AVGN.

I’ve been around here ( well around AVGN ) for soon 6 years now, almost at the beginning. You got my full support, and right now, I’m thinking if I can be useful for the big-screen movie.. But to bad, I’m not gifted lol.

You got this James, focus on the movie, and if it goes to big-screen. I’ll freaking fly to the US just to be there on the night of the release (I live in Sweden).

    Keep on rollin’ baby!

Best of luck with the movie & I just hope you don’t burn yourself out.

I created an account right now just to say James you are an amazing person. Even though you may not read this I want to express my gratitude on how you care for the fans and decide to take time out of the movie (which is your biggest dream, to produce a movie) in order to please fans. And who cares if they’re not great? It’s like you said,”better shitty then nothing.” I hope the best for you and everything to come in the future days and months of the episodes and the movie. I am a fan of your work and a fan of your dedication and care for your other fans.

P.s. I hope the Cinemassacre iPhone app hits the shelves soon :)

    Hello from Italy James!!

Just a quick message to say I’m HAPPY that the AVGN is going back to the basics! I love the character and I really appreciate your work, so for me knowing that the AVGN will be less special fx and more ANGRY like he used to be is awesome news.

Keep’em coming James, you’re the kind of talent that shines these days, not the ones you see on the TV.

  • jojjenitro

    June 1, 2011 at 2:43 am

i’m a really huge fan of all your videos and movies.
It would be awesome if you reviewed some sega saturn games.

  • DocLathropBrown

    June 1, 2011 at 2:44 am

Oh, James, you don’t have to go THAT far! I was fully prepared to wait for the next Nerd item being the movie (no matter how long it would take), but to know you’ll be doing episodes, too? Damn. Half of your “fans” don’t deserve such hard work thrown their way, but I’m glad you’re going for it.

And as for the quality of the episodes… damn all those who think the videos have to be elaborate! I’ve been following you and your videos since the VERY near beginning (From the TMNT/BTTF reviews), and they’ve always been entertaining, no matter what. It’s the review and the comments I enjoy. You don’t have to fight Freddy or ROB or any of that stuff for the videos to be good. Just the reviews and the commentary. Some of your best episodes are the least theatrical (such as the system reviews or historical informational ones).

Keep on trucking, James. I’d act in the movie if I could, but there’s no way I’d be able to get out to whatever state you’re in now!

  • blackjays24

    June 1, 2011 at 2:47 am

All I can say is that James, AVGN is bigger than you now haha. Honestly, keep producing episode until you physically can’t. The thing you gotta remember is that it’s not necessarily the material, it’s the games as well. i can’t tell you how many reviews have inspired me to try new games. It’s always cool just to see footage of old video games and sometimes think “Hey! I remember that game”

If it wasn’t for you, I never would have remembered Castlevania. So just keep reviewing the games so long as you have just 1 fan out there getting enjoyment. Some people will turn to haters, but at the end of the day it means the world to someone like me to have these videos because it connects me with my nostalgic past of a better time.

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:52 am

I love your work James. I just recently bought all your AVGN DVDs and every now and then I watch your stuff. Just great.
Really looking forward to the movie. It’s great you keep doing the regular episodes, but don’t over do it.

Greetings from Texas, I just have to say I love your show! I think I have seen every one of your episodes, I really enjoyed your videos, in particular, the one with Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. I still watch all of your old episodes. I think what I enjoy the most is your reviews on not only the video games I grew up on, but also the movies that I grew up watching in the 80s and 90s. Keep up the good work!

I created an account just to comment here! I wouldn’t have even known about you had it not been for screw attack hosting your AVGN videos. I am honestly glad you are going back to AVGN’s roots and producing videos with less production quality than your newer videos. I never cared how far you made it into the game, or how much you spent actually reviewing it. The only thing that really matters is learning about obscure games that I would otherwise never even know about.

That is the beauty of the AVGN. You play really terrible games from the past, you curse more than 3 sailors combined, and you get extremely pissed! I mean, It isn’t the ANGRY Video Game Nerd for no reason. We just want to see you get pissed off and quit playing, just like we would in your situation. That’s what the AVGN is all about, in my opinion anyway.

I’ve been hoping for a few old-style AVGN episodes. Although I do really like the crazy SFX, guys in costumes, over the top AVGN eps, I did miss the simplicity of the earlier eps, and with the tremendous workload that AVGN gives you, I’m kind of surprised you didn’t try that earlier.

  • June 1, 2011 at 3:05 am

    Yeah!!!
I was getting scared when you started talking about choosing one or the other, so I’m really glad that you choose to do both.
I’m not worried that you make the Nerd’s Episodes with a quality from way before, because your imagination is the best to give great episodes!!!

    June 1, 2011 at 3:22 am

Jame’s it’s MassholeMatt over here and I just want to say that you were DESTINED TO PLAY SHITTY GAME’S THAT SUCK ASS!!! You know I understand you want to make the fans happy, and some complain they want new nerd episodes or want a movie or want both but when you break it down you can’t split yourself in half along with your shit particles. I know you feel like you’re getting fkd in the ARSE and MOUTH. My personal opinion is that you should wait and not rush things because it’s just going to turn out shitty. As Malcom from Jurassic Park said, “now that’s one big pile of SHIT!” For the fans they need to learn that you’re a busy man and you have other priorities and for now AVGN is taking a vacation to go make a movie. If they were true fans they would support your decision no matter what even if you decide to dictate and you’re going to make a video game company to produce godly shit, shit of the shit video games. It’s funny it seems that ever time you do a Face2Cam E.T. is always behind you as if you were hinting something….wow, thanks for making me realize that E.T. loves to suck the shit outta peoples rectum, kinda like a colonostrophy. What I’m getting at is don’t feel pressured or rushed by the fans because then you might end up doing a kamakazi shit. Yeah that’s when you’re about to take a dump and you wait for the last minuet and you run to the toilet and your ass explodes and the shit is flying all over the walls. Seriously though don’t rush it because I know you know that rushed movies, t.v. shows etc that were rushed ended up to fk things up and well you know. If you like what you see Jame’s then MASSholeMatt will be here. Damn talking about shit made me want to shit now…

I’m very happy to see a return of the episodes, and I am more than happy to see simple and quick episodes. Just seeing your appearance on Pat’s marathon made my day. I would be all for other quick segments just like that.

Good luck James, and God bless you.

I’m really looking forward to see what your gonna do with the avgn in a movie. That said, if you can’t work the budget out with a moviecompany try crowdsourcing it with something like kickstarter.com. I can’t imagine i’m the only fan who is willing to back you up with this project.

    Succes from the netherlands

    June 1, 2011 at 3:38 am

Oh, and I have to agree that AVGN lends itself very well to a sort of basic production! Got no problem with that even if the more grand episodes were awesome, too!

I think there has been some great suggestions in the comments already. If you feel under pressure, maybe just do a basic sort of commentary over a game as AVGN, perhaps with Mike or something. Whatever you enjoy! No matter what I’m very pleased to hear the AVGN is returning soon, even if all your content is great :-)

  • June 1, 2011 at 3:38 am

Don’t do avgn episodes if you think you’re forced to, do whatever you want james.

I have the same view that ‘systemofrm’ ; however i think James wants to keep all his fans with him until the movie is done.
James is being nice: he spends time explaining clearly what he is doing and what he will do next. So stop complaining, guies, the only thing we can do now is wait for him to finish the avgn movie.

  • Nick Williams

    June 1, 2011 at 3:45 am

I totally agree with Daan, even if you put the nerd to rest I’d still be a big cinemassacre fan, even though I really like the AVGN stuff… As for what other people said I too hope you dont overdo it man because basic or not I can imagine that doing both the episodes and the movie is going to add strain… With that said I’m totally looking forward to seeing some good old classic AVGN and who knows it might be a great oppotunity to review some of the games that would be difficult to make large episodes about, but shitty in their own way… You totally got my support no matter what you do so best of luck with the movie man.

James understand in order to fund this movie he needs to make money and the way to do that is to get people coming to his site. Without new AVGN episodes people wont come back. He’s basically doing what Happy Days, Scrubs and soon to be The Office did. Continue making episodes until your show is dead, raped, and destroyed beyond recognition.

I mean he admitted himself that it’s getting to be the same fucking thing.

If he quits AVGN episodes what else does he have? Board James and Overanalyzers wont keep people coming back.

    Hey James.

I love your videos and honestly, a lot of the earlier ones, while perhaps more primitive then the newer ones, are excellent- no high tech stuff needed. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my absolute favorites and drew me into the AVGN universe. The fans support you no matter what you choose to do. Thanks for countless hours of entertainment and best of luck on the movie.

Hey now, they won’t be shittier episodes, not by a long shot. Just call it Classic Nerd or something. In all honesty, the older ones were really awesome. Just a simple man, reviewing a pile of horse shit, no flashy gimmicks or anything. Anyway, both at the same time is quite awesome. Good luck.

I don’t mean to be that person to ask a “dumb question” depending on peoples views. But when you finish the AVGN movie, is it going to be posted on here and free or are we going to have to buy it *crosses fingers FREE XD * P.S. Thanks a lot James for being such a good sport about all your ideas, games, and time spent into your work. Clearly we all love it. For me mostly aside from the entertainment value that I get a big kick out of, while I’m 22 I was always introduced to all these things by my one step-brother so its got such a nostalgic value to my child hood. And I remember you talking about a Church in Cherry Hill, NJ…Creepy thing is I live really close to there, I went to that cancer center near by during my chemo sessions in 2008 and it’s just a 10-15 minute drive. Yeah….random >_> SORRY ABOUT THAT in my head I thought it was cool. Its like going “hey I live near (add famous persons name here)” SO ANYWAY thanks a lot James for all your hard work and dedication you put into it. *Billy Mays Thumbs Up*

  • June 1, 2011 at 4:57 am

    I FUCKING LOVE YOU!
But really I thought you were about to quit I was thinking please dont please dont the whole time. Also TBH your older videos are my favorite. I mean I like the bigger edited vids too like R.O.B but I like the standard ones the best.
This is coming from a hardcore fan who has been watching since the power glove. I just made an account to type this, but I really like all your vids it may sound almost creepy but I honestly have your EP: list bookmarked and I watch an EP at random just about everyday I can pretty much speak word for word. LOL YES I AM THE NERD lol nah but I am really glad to know your gonna keep making these even though your busy now and even though it would have been pretty cool to stop at 101 just to have the title of “The 101 AVGN Series”
Well I have said to much already.

This is ten million percent unrated, but there’s not really any appropriate place to mention such a thing, so the comments of your latest video will have to do.

Last night, I dreamt that I hung out with you. There… really isn’t any significant way to elaborate on that. At the end of the day, you invited me to “come over and watch a movie” tomorrow. You didn’t specify it at all, but in my dream-mind, I came to the conclusion that it was (the original, of course) King Kong.

This seems like as good of a portent as any to actually do that, considering how much I have a tendency to agree with your movie reviews I’ve already seen. (And I’ve already seen It’s A (Mad)^4 World. For what it’s worth, there are two others in my immediate family who also consider that to be their favorite movie of all time.)

Really wish I had the money to fly over there and help! You’re one epic guy though James, 101 episodes! Not to mention all the other stuff on the side, they’re all great! I watch ‘em all the time, even convinced my friend to watch them. He thought they were really funny.

Looking forward to seeing the movie and just having some episodes would be epic. Good luck with the movie!

  • June 1, 2011 at 5:24 am

Epic, we are all supporting you James good luck! :)

so iv just recently started watching your avgn vids and other stuff and i have become an instant fan.. Iv literally watched all your 101 episodes in less than a month!!!!

keep doing what you do man, you are a legend!

love the bullllllshit LOL and the movie reviews, Awsome stuff.

This is Shahzeb maybe your only fan in Pakistan, but expect more fans from here now, because im spreading your legend here :-)

I’ve been a fan since 2007 and I registered just to comment here, I want to say that I love your earlier episodes and if you can make new ones anything like that then it will be just as great to watch as your episodes have always been. I’m looking forward to seeing some new AVGN material!

  • peglakantatari

    June 1, 2011 at 5:31 am

honestly, I was a bit sad when I heard there will be no more avgn episodes, but psyched to hear there will be a movie. Although I doubt I will be able to see It (because I live in godforsaken place), so I hope It will be released on dvd. But now at least I will have more avgn originals, and I don’t mind them being basic like the earlier ones, those were also brilliant, in fact, from the very beginning, every single one of your videos made me laugh my ass of, and each of them was entertaining in its own way! Keep up the good work James, best of luck with the movie!

  • peglakantatari

    June 1, 2011 at 5:37 am

oh and also, I like bullshit a lot. I mean, I like ‘you know what’s bullshit’ bits’, I don’t really like bullshit, cause that would be, you know, weird.

    June 1, 2011 at 5:58 am

JAMES!!! I was so happy when u said u will continue with the episodes while making the movie. Thank u, I love ur work!

    GL with the video :D

  • Senter

    June 1, 2011 at 6:06 am

Wow. I never asked for a return of the nerd but I am happy you will. To be honest I’m amazed you’re still going to do both. Just know it’s always hard to live up to everybody’s expectations. However the true fans will always apreciate what you do!

  • jasekho

    June 1, 2011 at 6:15 am

to be honest, if you’re happy making the episodes, under-developed or otherwise, don’t stop. the public likes your work, and with enough effort i think we’ll all be able to adapt to the new episodes, regardless of how they look

it is AVGN after all :)

  • Lewghis

    June 1, 2011 at 6:17 am

i thought that the basic episodes were great, that’s why they kept being made right. so this is damn awesome information.

    long live the nerd!

  • Gorlokk

    June 1, 2011 at 6:23 am

Yayy!! I don’t really care how the episodes are. They always have something that makes me laugh. Keep it up I love your videos! I was surprised that you are still going to do both! It must be difficult to keep up with all of this. But I still haven’t found a bad avgn! And I doubt I ever will!

  • Highbred

    June 1, 2011 at 6:23 am

Bravo James! you are truly an inspiration, keeping loyal to your fans by continuing the AVGN episodes is really admirable. When I thought you were gonna stop I had a lump in my throat. But to be frank your original episodes is what got me hooked and i look forward to the charm of the Nostalgic AVGN =)

  • IanBoardman

    June 1, 2011 at 6:24 am

James, I hope you read this message.
I am a long time fan, I was watching your AVGN videos since the day they were uploaded on that first website that had the awesome black background with “high contrast windows setting” text with pictures of the actual NES cartridges for the episode title cards.
I’ve always been excited to see that new nerd video uploaded and I would come home from highschool every day hoping for some sort of update.
Anyways now that I’ve rambled enough, I wish you the best of luck with this project and it’s a very bold move for you to keep producing episodes. I love the devotion you put in to your films and your loyalty to your fans is outstanding, I will definitely enjoy the shorter and sweet 2006 style episodes because that is the most nostalgic for me and it will keep me happy until the Movie is completed. I wouldn’t have it any other way.(possible irrelevance starts here) I happen to know how to make sprites and do pixel art in snes-scale sizes if that would ever come in handy. (possible irrelevance ends here) Good luck with the project and If you happen to need pixel art I would be glad to help.

  • Hinyness

    June 1, 2011 at 6:30 am

Its really cool how devoted you are to the series. At first i got angry why there wasn’t a new AVGN episode (mainly cuz it was suppoused to be a two part video, but with all the videos you make i guess i can’t really complain. I wish to be more devoted like you too.

Btw my favourite episodes are the atari 5200 and doublevision (dracula too :P).

And if your gonna do a video then Please make one of the Contra series. Maybe contra 1-3, contra force and super contra 7 (only bad contra game imo). You could do a chronocally confused scene like : “Contra 7, where are contra 4-6 or is there also a super contra series that i never heard about? Or maybe its super, like castlevania 4 being called super castlevania 4.”

    June 1, 2011 at 6:30 am

    HI,
Why don’t you set up a paypal acount to support your movie?

I assume there is an enormous public for your stuff, you can try to get there help online.

Btw, the journal video is a very good idea, it’s so cool to get the infos from the master head, step by step!

  • Pauly

    June 1, 2011 at 6:36 am

To be honest james, I don’t think anybody will mind the switch to what you call the ‘shittier’ episodes. The episodes you used to do weren’t any worse than the ones you do now, in fact, I think it might be a refreshing change to see you go back to the simpler episodes the way you used to do them. I actually enjoyed just watching you play a game and rant about it.

One of the things that kept your video’s fresh was that it was actually interesting finding out about these games, and the history behind them. And if you keep finding new games to review, then they will always be fresh, it doesn’t matter if you’ve said “Shitload of fuck” 100 times before.

    Keeup up the good work

  • monkeyking31

    June 1, 2011 at 6:40 am

James u can say a shit load of fuck as many times as u want, it’ll never get boring

  • Strazdas

    June 1, 2011 at 6:43 am

old episodes were no more shittier than the new ones (both awesome). I hope you will have time to do the movie the way you want to do it.

  • June 1, 2011 at 6:49 am

You should do what Kevin Smith did with Red State and edit on the spot as you shoot. Shoot a bunch of scenes that day and edit it right away. Since you’re a writer/director you should already have a good grasp on what you want the movie to look like so that should cut editing time down quite a bit.

  • June 1, 2011 at 6:49 am

Take your time James, I’d rather see a good movie that I’ve been waiting for a while than a bad one i can see fast. And I think you should do a movie that is an accomplishment for you, that you can be proud of.

It’s the way the real fans we’ll be pleased. If you like it, we’ll like it, because we trust you, and like what you do.

Keep on the great work. And Yeah, btw, to idea to set a Paypal for your movie so that we can donate to help its making.

    Cheers from France, Nerd!

  • paisan13

    June 1, 2011 at 6:52 am

Dude, any AVGN is better than non, at least until the movie ^_^

  • JayWak

    June 1, 2011 at 6:58 am

Let’s go with the shitty episodes!!!!
No seriously, you have all the support I can give you from France, enjoy making your movie and good luck for all that stuff !

  • June 1, 2011 at 7:01 am

If by “shittier episodes” you mean “fewer crappy comedy skits or terrible fight scenes”, then I’m all for that. Your more basic episodes were always the best ones, much easier to relate to as an “older” gamer and generally a lot funnier.

But I think you really should concentrate on the movie, it’s a much longer and tougher process and having other things to do in-between is probably going to be a bit of a hassle. Just, you know, if the episodes get a bit out of hand, let them go, no one will mind.

  • June 1, 2011 at 7:02 am

The Nerd episodes will be like in 2006? DAMN… why did you say “not as good as today”.. the 2006 episodes are awesome and I always wanted the new episodes be like the old ones: Simple but funny. :)

    June 1, 2011 at 7:18 am

James, thanks for the video review. I wish I lived near you so I could try my hand at acting and have a bit part in it lol. Anyways, I think I think like anyone else on here. The old episodes are just as good as the newer ones. My favorites are the bad system reviews. I know there is more of those maybe coming. Heck you own the Odyssey 2 and Game.com. I also liked the old ones for just game play and you bitching about it. No elaborate special effects or acting just you, a game, and a beer. I look forward to the movie and look forward to the next AVGN DVD. I bought them all so far and watch them alot when I get bored. Heck your Nerd room tour on volume 3 I’ve watched so many times. And you’ll never run out of crappy games for the NES. Heck you still got all those unlicensed companies you got games for like Color Dreams and Sachen.

    June 1, 2011 at 7:25 am

Just want to say thank you James. Thank you for what you’ve already done for us and what you continue to do for us.
I am glad that you are willing to take time out of your already busy schedule to give us a bit more nerd. I for one will not be complaining about quality or anything because I know what time restraints you are under and as people have said some of the basic ones were just as good as the higher production ones.

And with the movie update vlogs I do hope for at least one American Movie style vlog :D

    But again thank you.

    June 1, 2011 at 7:53 am

Dont worry James, those who really love your show we’ll be those who understand, cause making a movie is a lot of works and a gigantic amount of time, but still for you fan you will go on. I thought that you would stop the episode, and that would be totally understandable, so I dont’ care if they’ll turn more basic, just be yourself and they’ll be awesome has ever. Good Luck AVGN for all of yours projects!!!

P.S.: Sorry for my poor english

    June 1, 2011 at 7:54 am

My heart almost stopped when you said you were happy to stop at 101! Im happy your not stopping the nerd, thats the best thing you do on this site. Keep it up! your awesome

  • SkamArtist

    June 1, 2011 at 7:59 am

This is great news. I am happy that you are going back to the old way of doing the shows. As most people have already stated, the older shows is what got me hooked in the first place. Thank You so much for for the hard work that you put in for your fans. Can’t wait!

  • dadirtypoostick

    June 1, 2011 at 8:02 am

I honestly preferred the basic episodes myself. they are the ones I go back to and watch over and over. I look forward to the movie and hope to see more nerd.

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:10 am

James, that was totally cool! I was just sitting there like, “yeah man I understand” when you were saying you’d done so much AVGN stuff and you needed to focus on the movie. But when you said you were making more episodes I would imagine the feeling to be similar to when my football team scores a goal (I hate football)

I stood up at my desk raised my arms up high and went “YEEEAAAARRRRRHHHHHHH” so thanks for making me feel good today cant wait to see more crappy games!!!

What a SHITLOAD OF FUCK!! (ps being good at swearing is one thing that makes AVGN so good, so keep up the anger man, it is well funny!!)

  • Metalhunter

    June 1, 2011 at 8:11 am

That’s some great news you have there. Working on the movie and continuing on with the Nerd episodes, what a guy. I gotta say, although I am a big fan of the newer episodes, it was the older ones that really got me hooked, and I find myself watching them over and over. So to hear you say they will be more “basic” like they used to be is just fine for me.

Also, as someone mentioned earlier, there would probably be a decent amount of community support if you chose to set up a paypal account for the movie. As a long time fan I would love to be able to support the movie in some way.

Anyhow, thanx for the update and the awesome news. Best wishes on the movie as well, I know it will be killer when it is finished.

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:13 am

    Keep comin’ – HA!!!

I liked the to the point episodes better when it come to AVGN. Every once and a while to have a little movie or subplot is fun as well but the short and sweet ones were always better. Good luck on your newest project…it’ll be a long road.

  • bwast

You don’t HAVE to continue the Nerd episodes while working on the movie. But your gonna anyways cause your just THAT awesome. Can’t wait for the movie, it’s gonna be awesome.

    June 1, 2011 at 8:25 am

Damn ! I was worried too when he said that “happy to stop at 101″ thing.
    Almost ¤%#/”&%¤¤ my pants….

I have enjoyd you work really much James.
Thank you for AVGN. I really mean it !
    But a movie ?… AVGN movie ? !

“WTH are you thinking ? !”

A long AVGN episode right ?
Like whit simpsons or any other series.
Did we really need simpsons movie ? I think not.
So.. I think that the AVGN movie is not necessary either.
But hey ! Thats only me.
Long or short episode…. Just do it.
    And keep them coming !

    Long live AVGN ! haha

I cant deny that i am really excited about this project too.
So i have little mixed opinions there.

I bet your movie will be GREAT ! (thumbs up)

  • LB-machine

    June 1, 2011 at 8:30 am

i just wonder, are the movie going to be possible to see on cinemassacre.com? i live in Norwey and i’m a really big fan, so what do you think?

  • Hourglass

    June 1, 2011 at 8:38 am

    James,

I can only imagine what you’re going through with the movie; I recall stories of Michael J. Fox doing both his TV show AND his Back to the Future movie filming at the same time…the guy was literally getting by on 1 or 2 hours of sleep per night for like 3 months!

Don’t let it get to that point, okay? Your fans love your work (AVGN, movie reviews, Turtle Tuesday vids, all the good stuff here on Cinemassacre) and want to see new stuff, but we also want you to succeed in your movie.

Besides, what makes your AVGN videos so great wasn’t the high production value; It’s the fact that you capture the essence of what every gamer went through while playing those old games. Your vids are great because your audience can really relate to them.

At any rate, we know you’re working hard and we’re all cheering for you. Hope the movie-making experience is everything you dreamed it would be. Keep up the great work!

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:38 am

Do the video and let the nerd rest in fece(s). The nerd brought me to this site but everything else is good aswell . Better i think. All the retro stuff. the board games, old horror movies e.t.c. Here all can live out there inner nerd and feast on childhood nostalgia. Now that you have massive exposure because of the nerd i think this site will do fine on its own.

If the nerd is dead maybe you could do more new movie reviews? You are really good at putting things in a cinematorial (is that a word?) historical perspective and i like that.

  • saintedAVGNfan

    June 1, 2011 at 8:40 am

@james “AVGN” Rolfe. Dont worry dude you work hard and play all them shitty games so we dont have too. if the episode go back to the 2006 standard to make the movie something special then do it.

You are a trooper doing both of the projects at the same time if a movie company doesn’t sign you up then there is something wrong with then and they are (Clears throat) a Shit Load of Fuck (LOL).

Anyway keep it up and all the best with the AVGN Movie and the Future Episodes.

    Viva La AVGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:41 am

And by “do the video” i mean do the movie…. just clarifying

  • cr4b

    June 1, 2011 at 8:43 am

Even the bad episodes are good. I also think the more basic episodes are often the funniest. What I love to see is the genuine frustration about legitimate flaws in the games.

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:44 am

James your movie is going to be great. Take your time dude! You can’t rush art! Tool usually put out an album every 5 years or so and it’s always worth waiting for. Yes! I am comparing AVGN to Tool. That’s how high up you are on my list. Do it man, fucking do! You got the touch, you got the power! :D

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:48 am

James, there is nothing “shitty” about your old format. This video inspired me to go back and watch all the episodes again :) I’m glad to hear that you are going to continue doing AVGN episodes and I think it would be refreshing to go back to the old format for a bit. Make sure this doesn’t hinder you from making the movie the way you want to make it. If it ever gets too much for you I’m sure everyone would understand if you stopped doing the episodes. Love your stuff, keep going :)

  • Big A2

    June 1, 2011 at 8:48 am

Honsetly, I’d rather have no new nerd episodes and just have you focus on the movie. I don’t want shitty little game reviews getting in the way of way your big project. But hey, if you think you can manage it all, then that’s fine by me!

  • Imgema

    June 1, 2011 at 8:51 am

James, this may come as a surprise to you, but most people are happy that you are returning to basic AVGN episodes. I also think they are the best. You don’t even have to shoot anything else, just the screen. All the other stuff, the costumes, the effects, etc are sometimes boring and distracting (imo). The episodes that have most of the focus on screen are the best.

    Sometimes, James, less is more.

  • Matthew_Of_Wales

    June 1, 2011 at 8:56 am

Nice of you to keep us informed. Good luck with the movie, eh? :D

  • June 1, 2011 at 8:58 am

You don’t have to keep making the episodes. Especially when your main goal (What you really want to do) is the movie. I’ve been visiting this website a lot and discovered many other great vids around here. I’m looking forward to the movie and your other stuff. I’m working on a big game project on my side and I know those can take a looong time. So you’ve definitely got my support! ^_^ (Oh and I sent an e-mail to your help address.) Looking forward to the nerd episodes too I guess. Keep it simple, like you said, and they’ll be great. No doubt. I can’t complain. ^_^

  • Critic

    June 1, 2011 at 9:01 am

Hey, I’m a teacher in Taiwan (originally from Canada) and have been inspired to use your patented “stares of disbelief” whenever my students do something ridiculous….
    Do what you gotta do!
But as a wrestling fan, you gotta review some awful wrestling games at some point…….
    Keep it up!

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:02 am

    Dude, you’re nuts! :P

I dunno how you’re going to be working on a full feature length film, while making AVGN episodes as well as the other things you do on the site. Don’t overwork yourself, in my opinion the movie should come first and foremost ^^. Making movies is your passion and this could turn out to be your first big claim to fame in the industry, and even give you a way in. Who knows, maybe this could lead to bigger things, like working on feature length movies you’ve always dreamed of doing; we all know you have some other script ideas up in that noggin o’ yours.

Anyway, all the best. Can’t wait to see the movie, and updates and whatnot. If I lived any closer you can bet Jurass I’d be doing what I could to help out.

Keep doing what you do, my friend. We’re gonna love it regardless!

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:03 am

I’m thinking, Freddy Got Fingered meets Napoleon Dynamite meets Clerks meets American Movie meets Wizard. :D

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:08 am

    Oh, one other thing;

If you’re going to continue doing AVGN episodes, I think both an easy and great way to do a few could be a couple AVGN Let’s Plays. You could always just screen capture a shitty game while you playthrough a lot of it and just AVGN Riff it the whole way through. This would definitely save time on all the extra editing and scripting, and I can bet there are a lot of people who would love to see some Nerd Let’s Plays! ^^

    Just an idea :)

  • aaron7

    June 1, 2011 at 9:08 am

5 minutes in I got super excited!

honestly, though I loved every episode and everything you’ve done, the older episodes are just special. if you’re going to make them more like the older ones you’ll have many happy old school fans!!

Rock on James! Good luck with everything you want your movie to be and I hope some studio will pick you up so you’ll have the money coming in for it! :) …Still do you think you’ll ever review RISK for board james? My friends and I play it like crack all night long when we get together. :) Anyway thanks for everything!!! CJ

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:15 am

This made my day! I love the TMNT stuff that’s been coming out as well as all the other stuff you do such as Monster Madness and your movie reviews but I have to be honest and say that I certainly miss the AVGN episodes. If you have to scale them back a little to keep your focus on your bigger plans that’s great, and I’m sure it will be worth the effort when we all sit back and watch the AVGN movie in all it’s glory! Keep up the good work James.

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:22 am

    James,

This is incredibly awesome of you! If you do video journals over the course of the movies production I think it will make many fans happy. Just to get little updates here and there on how it’s going. Maybe some interviews with the cast / crew.

I’d really love to see more, that’s for sure!

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:25 am

I wouldn’t want you to overwork yourself, but you will definitely be making a lot of people happy with making these episodes, since there’s been a bit of complaining lately. I agree with one of the above commenters that you could do a Let’s Play of the games.

Don’t ever retire the Nerd, James. I know you’ve taken it way farther than you intended, I know you might be running out of jokes, and I understand if you’d like to do something that doesn’t involve yelling “FUCKING SHITTY COCKS IN YOUR ASS”, but, seriously, don’t retire the Nerd. DON’T DO IT. Just be like The Simpsons. 20 years from now, I want to be able to see a new episode at least once every few years where you jerk off your Wii, or maybe make cameo appearances on podcasts or whatever…

Whether you end up a washed-up old has-been or you move on to bigger and better things, just keep this shit going. I’d give the same advice to anyone who offers anything at all of value to this world: all I ask is that you keep this shit going forever, even if you have to train a replacement to keep it going after you die. ‘KAY?!?!??!

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:45 am

Sorry on my bad English too lol. Some words are misspelled

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:53 am

Cinemassacre and it’s team are the best on the web.

James you have to be some sort of crazy person. Juggling the movie on it’s own has to be a monumental task. But you also put up lots of extra content on the site, and now you’re making more regular AVGN episodes. That is insane!

I think the true fans wouldn’t mind if you did take an extended nerd break, but you are really showing your commitment to us by making more episodes.

In summary, you are the man James! I’m really hoping the movie process works out well and goes smoothly for you. A smooth process is the least you deserve for all of your hard work.

But that’s not how life works, is it? Haha. Keep at it James & co! I’ll continue to check Cinemassacre every day!

    Hi James,

i’ve been following your stuff since way back in 2007 and just registered to point out how happy i am that you’re still continuing the AVGN-episodes :-D i watch most of your videos and usually find them entertaining (especially the movie reviews, even though i don’t always agree with you – come on, Indy 4 was BS ;-), but i just can’t stop watching the Nerd :-)

so, as long as they’re coming, basic oder epic or whatever, i’m just fine with it – even more so knowing that there’s a movie coming up ;-)

keep up the great work and best wishes from Germany (where you’ve established a solid fan base ;-)

You have fans in Ireland ;)

Thanks for the update, James. I for one am excited for The Nerd to return to his roots. I like all the nerd videos, but the older ones definitely are my favorites. You know, a lot of times I just want to see reviews about the crappy games we all used to play with a little Nerd thrown in, so don’t worry about pushing the envelope/overdeveloping the Nerd. A lot of us like it old school.

    Good luck on the movie!

  • June 1, 2011 at 10:27 am

I’m so surprised & relatively pleased at your announcement of returning to doing more episodes, I just hope this doesn’t take away too much time from your film plans. I would have gladly waited but understand there is a huge demand for the nerd’s return.
    Good Luck & Cheers James

I know this has been brought up over and over, but have you ever thought about reviewing shitty PS1 games (i.e. Criticon, Rascal Racers, Bubsy 3d, Planet of The Apes, etc…). There were so many bad PS1 games. I think it would be something a little different and fresh. Maybe do one a few times a year. But I truly love what you do. You are extremely creative and talented. Please keep it up. Thank You.

Hey Man just keep doing what you’re doing. I appreciate and enjoy what I’m given and respect it for always being free. Even so you’d bet if it wasnt I’d pay for it. You have my support on whatever you do with new eps or not, just don’t go and work yourself to death. If i felt i had any ability to help on the AVGN movie I would but hinestley I’d probably get in the way. Good luck and enjoy what youre doing.

  • June 1, 2011 at 10:56 am

Oh, one more comment from me:

James if you read this, you should really try to get this video posted on Gametrailers! Every time I watch an AVGN video there, I see tons and tons of comments asking why there aren’t being uploaded new episodes, so people obviously crave more AVGN! Clearly, they haven’t followed this site so they don’t know the reason… I think it would be good to let everyone know about your plans and that our favorite video game reviewer is coming back by having this video hosted on Gametrailers if they agree to that :-)

  • June 1, 2011 at 11:04 am

Good luck, James! I look forward to seeing the new episodes going back to the basics. While the big elaborate asides are fun once in a while, and I can tell you really love doing them, I always appreciated the core elements the most.

  • June 1, 2011 at 11:05 am

I just wanna say that I love AVGN and your site. I check everyday for new content…….But just imagine if back in the day when you watched ninja turtles. That one day you were watching the show and someone came on and said ” Ya guys the shows gonna suck for like a year or so because we are working on a movie”. It would be very unprofessional, and it wouldn’t happen. Come to think about it Didn’t you say turtles started to suck later on in the series? Maybe that’s why.
I know AVGN is your most popular skit and you should just Give The People What They Want! Also That’s great that you did one hundred and one episodes. But…… I say now its time to go for FIVE HUNDRED! Besides it sounds like the movie would be at least a year or 2 or maybe even 3! You think all of your HUGE AVGN fans are gonna wanna sit around and wait that long.
Again I love AVGN and your site but you should suck it up and do your best. If you got time to make all those other videos that you make (not that I don’t like those). Then you got time to make AVGN.

i thought for sure this was the end of the avgn series. Tho it is a smart move to do them when you can, why not? as long as you can still enjoy making them i’m sure people will still enjoy watching them.

Tho i do love all the new content, the stuff with mike and the over analyzers, i would be sad if AVGN ended when there are so many shitty games left out there. Why not do something to spice up the new avgn episodes? take them in a different direction to make it more interesting for you… AVGN: THE RED SKY YEARS

Good Luck doing the movie while providing the series at the same time. If I were you, I would just stick with the movie, no need to make it hard for yourself. How about on the series, have a subtitute reviewing the bad games in the series, while you focus on the movie, like let your friend Mike be a star of the AVGN series, just a thought. In the end, do what you need to do…

I think you said before the Lester the Unlikely video that you had been busy with monster madness so don’t expect a masterpiece and that was one of my favorite episodes ever. I would agree that lesser quality AVGN is better then no AVGN but i dont think there is such a thing as bad AVGN. With that in mind dont work yourself to hard, fans will always be back when you get back no matter how long you have been gone, especially with all the extra content you put out.

I like this “back to basics” a lot. I was watching your first episodes (once again, like for the fifteenth time) in these days and every time, skipping from the last ones to the older ones, I realize how the AVGN became a real show more than a spontaneous “rant”, which is good, because it really added something to the simple swearing but… I’ve gotta admit, I like the sincere astonishment and despise coming from your voice in the first episodes.
Your voice sounded so natural, as you were not acting at all: it was all like “look at this, is fucking crap that I’m playing, and I’m telling you from the bottom of my heart!”

Anyway, you have my complete support, for what it’s worth.

  • AnKun

    June 1, 2011 at 12:14 pm

Jaaaames! Who cares if they will be “basic” ?? All we want is your voice saying “shitload of fuck” as many times as it takes! That’s all we want, really!

  • MortalKombat14

    June 1, 2011 at 12:14 pm

I registered to post this comment and I just want to say I’m thankful for all the hard work you put in James. It’s your decision to keep AVGN going while working on the movie but I have to say I agree with it. Having just a little bit of AVGN is better than having none for potentially a year or more. The three things I look forward to most on this site are Monster Madness, Board James and AVGN. Also if you’re ever under time constraint to come up with stuff for a new episode while working on the movie. You could always pick a game and have us review the game for you like in your Deadly Towers review.

  • RichterBelmont

    June 1, 2011 at 12:20 pm

James has such high standards for himself that I know what he’s calling shitty will actually be very enjoyable AVGN eps. The insights into frustrating gameplay and how terrible games buck gaming conventions are core components in ALL of the episodes, no matter how basic or advanced.

I imagine even if they’re more hastily put together we’ll see a lot of the usual entertaining insights that might actually come to James in a more impromptu way vs. highly scripted. That’s fine by me!

  • Seblecaribou

    June 1, 2011 at 12:31 pm

James you’re the man. From France you have all my gratitude. Since I discovered AVGN (with the Superman 64 episode) I’ve been enjoying every single video you’ve posted and definetly, your website is one of my first sources for shows on the internet.

I have to say, in my humble opinion, you should do only the movie. I miss my monthly AVGN episode, and I ‘m glad that you decided to make newer ones again, but I rather have a great independant movie. So if you think you can do both, just do it cause you’ve never desapointed me and honestly I have a complete faith in your skills.

Just make it arrive to my country (on the big screen or on DVD) so I can thank you with my little financial support.

Hey James, can’t wait to see the new episodes, this is great news! This is actually a pretty smart decision imo. AVGN is still gonna kick ass even if you put a bit less work into it.

The core of what makes AVGN so funny (imho) is your personality, the script and the subject you’re talking about, and those things probably wont be affected to much.

Don’t listen to all the idiots posting negative comments. Your real fans are supporting you all the way!

    Keep up the good work

Hi James, I’m Fran from Argentina. I like your show of the Nerd. I think you are very very funny and smart. I must tell you that I can see how much effort you put on making the episodes. I really can tell. I also think that the idea is brilliant. Videogames were an important part of my childhood or adolescence so it brought to me many memories. The episode of Nintendo Power magazine just completed all memories. I also read a magazine called Hobby Consolas or something like that and I share most of your thoughts about it. I couldn’t watch all the episodes but I would like to let you know that my favourite is Bible Adventures (the first one) along with TNMT (Episode number 5 if I can remember correct).
I work as an employee full-time but I also do some work at home (to try to do a little extra money) fixing computers and while I’m working I leave some episodes running in my own computer and I laugh all the time with them.
Not only revision episodes are great but also when the nerd reviews accesories or other stuff such as other consoles like the Philips CD-I or the Panasonic 3DO just to mention a few.
Keep up the good work James! Don’t worry about the time about the movie is going to take. We’ll wait!
PS: I’m very sorry about my english but I hope you can understand what I wrote!

  • JtotheB

    June 1, 2011 at 1:05 pm

    With all due respect…

When I hear about the concept of an AVGN movie, I cannot help but think of all those SNL skits that became features. Essentially those are 4 minute skits that were stretched out to 90 mins. Once you use all of the schtick and jokes from the skit, you have to fill the other 86 mins with “stuff.” Most of the time they failed…and failed miserably because there was just not enough content to make a feature.

You may run the risk of the same fate. Obviously this is a personal project, and I do applaud you for going after it and making the best of it…

But in the same breath I cannot help myself thinking that the “Nerd” character himself would be against such an attempt to make this a feature.

Picture for a moment that the Nerd is having to review the film…All I can hear is the Nerd saying “What? An AVGN movie? Was this necessary?”

Just like in the Wizzard/Super Mario 3 review. You mentioned your reaction to the film was…”What’s going on here? What games are they playing! Go back to the Wonder Years…I want to see the GAMES!”

You didn’t care about the story, you just wanted to see the games. I can see myself and other fans having a similar reaction….we might not care about the story, we just want to see the game (reviews!).

After all, the game reviews is what brought us all here in the first place.

That’s only my opinion/concern…and I do wish nothing for the best in your endeavors. I would like to thank you for the countless hours of entertainment you have brought us all.

  • angel85

    June 1, 2011 at 1:05 pm

well if your next review really is ET for the Atari 2600, that basic, bare bones game would be well suited to a basic, bare bones review right? Good luck on the movie!

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:06 pm

    James,
I love what you do on your site, and what you do for your fans. The simple fact that you have actually decided to both continue the series whilst working on the movie, that’s mind-blowing. You’re an inspiration. You relate to us fans on our level…and do what you can to keep us happy. I know I can say I greatly appreciate it…but at the same time, don’t forget to look at for you too. The last thing I, or any other fan would want to see, is the Nerd getting burned out again. Your fans will always be here for you no matter what. Good luck to you my friend.

James, I was thinking about this for awhile but I think I should say something now. I have a suggestion to make about the AVGN episodes coming up. I think its at least worth a try if he’s willing to do it. Motherfucker Mike as the AVGN. You could just see where it goes, and he could be a temp fill in, plus it’ll give you time to make the movie. Yeah, maybe its a little extreme, but I think its worth thinking about at least.

  • IZheet MeDrawrz

You Rock James. Liking the back to basics approach your doing with the AVGN.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:24 pm

I can’t wait for this movie. I don’t think short videos will be shitty anyways because think about it the early ones are what made you popular. As long as they get the point and message across and are able to make us laugh then length wont be an issue. I am just happy to see that Nerd videos will be back, but I have been loving the Turtle Tuesdays and your other side video series.

  • ThatOneDude

    June 1, 2011 at 1:24 pm

James, you’re the AVGN, people will watch your shows whether you’re making crappier videos, or only the AVGN movies. It’s cool that you want to make your fans happy and you actually care about your fans, but, I think you should focus more on the AVGN movie. Yeah, it would suck to not have a new AVGN episode every month, but, your fans know how much making a movie means to you. You’ve given us 101 memorable videos that we all love. Making your movie is your dream, so make sure YOU’RE happy with it. Thanks for all the videos, and good luck to you.

  • June 1, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Do your thing James, No matter how basic the episodes are going to be, I know I will be watching them. I can bet a pretty penny that all of your fans from the beginning will continue watching them.

I personally like how the early episodes are, down to the point without a ton of special effects.

Looking forward to the movie and any new episodes your willing to throw our way.

I would love to help on the movie, but I do not have any marketable skills other then Fan Support. So if you need any encouraging words of an appreciating fan, lemme know lol.

  • WingedKitsune

    June 1, 2011 at 1:27 pm

If things get too difficult and you find yourself having trouble doing the episodes, I would rather you focus on the movie. I mean, the episodes can always resume after the movie is finished.

  • businesscasualgamer

    June 1, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I think it would be fun to see some AVGN videos where he talks about good games (much like his Castlevania or his Swordquest videos), or make a video where James talks about his top 20 NES games. Regardless good luck with your future projects.

  • vulcrane

    June 1, 2011 at 1:38 pm

Glad to hear that everything is coming forth for the movie! I can honestly say I would rather see it independent, too many movies are taken and given the hollywood flare and they just lose that natural affect and feel! I am probably one of the many who say that I am excited to see where the movie goes and if there was anything I could do to help with the production I would do it in a second just to see this go places! The great thing I am excited about is to hear that you are keeping up those videos for the Nerd! I can honestly say that I love every single episode that you have made and I even like the more basic ones, in fact they were always my favorite! They had that simple yet hysterical feel to them that kept me coming back and that was before all the graphics came up! Don’t get me wrong I love the new style of the Nerd’s videos but you can’t beat the classics! Keep up the Great Work James and the same goes to all the others that are working on the film!

P.S. Tell Mike I said Hi,

    Sincerely,
Shane – One of the many that have been there since the beginning!

Have you considered using something like Kickstarter.com? Kris Straub and Scott Kurtz managed to raise the initial $50,000 for their 10 episode series (Kris and Scott’s Scott and Kris Show (starring Kris and Scott) in just 4 days! They are currently over $60,000 in donations with 13 days left to go! Surely your massive fanbase would be willing to help with this.

hey man, AVGN will never get boring for us, and let me say.. the simpler the better… the original episodes were great and that’s why we loved them. and we’ll happily wait for the movie which i’m sure it’s going to rock.
gotta say.. shit load of fuck never gets tired.

greeeeeeeeeeeeetings again form italy you are fantastic

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:28 pm

to be honest, i dont want you to make nerd episodes until you finish the movie. the reason why, is because in the speilberg games you ended on a cliffhanger, yanno “To be continued in the avgn movie” so if you make another episode, it just won’t make too much sense unless its e.t., but that would suck if you made a humble episode about e.t! it wont be interesting at all, it would be such a let down! so personally, i think you should just wait for the movie…

Stick figures all the way James!

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:54 pm

No problem, as long as we get some movie reviews/top lists now and then – I still love you.

  • June 1, 2011 at 2:56 pm

I support you All the Way, Mr. Rolfe. I do hope, When the Movie is released, That it will be sold on DVD. That would be a great way to get the money in. Just a thought.

We all dont care if the episodes are “Shittier”, All we care about is that AVGN will not be dumped and forgotten. He has a special place in our hearts as the internet’s biggest Star. Keep at it, James! More Power to you!

I wouldn’t mind if you didn’t have a script and just plugged a game in,play a chunk of the game and talked about good and bad moments in the game. OR….. maybe just a time lapse of you playing and talk about hard moments if you want to get start of game to finish, JUST AN IDEA!

  • Solid.nl

    June 1, 2011 at 2:59 pm

Well i for one would not mind seeing the shorter eps.

Its pretty obvious you have let avgn evolve by writing larger and complexer scripts but i think i am not the only one that share’s the following opinion.

I liked to watch a single game just get burned down for 8 minutes even it had less of a theme or storyline compared to the avgn episodes being made now a days. Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck and I enjoyed the avgn series and all the other stuff you made. So the movie has got to be worth waiting for.

    Greetings from Holland

I want to see the movie done like Beavis and Butthead do America. Take the nerd character, and have him go on an aventure to find the lost ET cartridges or something like that. Then, along the way, he is unknowingly involved in some crazy shit that is seemingly out of his control. The nerd succeeds, stops the shitty game company, saves the girl, saves the world. Stuff like that.

Also, I can’t wait to see the more basic episodes. I liked the older ones better anyway.

  • Undertaker91

    June 1, 2011 at 3:25 pm

ive been watching your videos for a couple of years now and i gotta say, i like them. theyre fun and i can see you have fun making them. anyways i love that youre finally putting the AVGN movie into action and if the cost of that is some shorter, more basic AVGN episodes, so be it. ill still support you the best i can. i look forward to seeing what you came up with for a movie and i hope to see it sometime in either 2013 or 2014, as i know its going to be a long process.

    Sincerely,
    a loving fan

  • June 1, 2011 at 3:28 pm

Well, vulcrane pretty much said everything I wanted to say. If you need some time for the movie, you can be sure I’ll wait along with everyone for it to be acomplished! As someone said here, you should sell the dvd with special features. That would be great! You could set up a donation system in the site, so you could get a great income for the movie! I just hope I’ll be able to buy the AVGN movie DVD from here in Brazil ! Best of luck man! You deserve it!

May the Force be With You! Always!

Funny, I always thought you’re early episodes (2006 era) were my favorite. Even to this day my favorite episode happens to be the Bugs Bunny/ Looney Toons special. And trust me, you can say shitload of fuck a lot more and it will still be funny.

    That’s Fabulous news!

We all know the movie is your dream, & we all want it to succeed as much as you do. I’ve gotta apologize for selfishly wanting more Nerd episodes. They’re just so funny; I mean complaining about retro games is the best way to kill time. Also, sorry about the hate-on most of have for Over-Analyzers…(it’s like Poochy on Itchy & Scratchy). I vote do away with that segment, & channel that rage into The Nerd

Thank-you for the update…& these Ninja Turtle videos you’re doing are awesome.

well, im not like the ” i want a nerd episode now! kind “, but you really have to keep the “nerdzodes” coming if u want ppl to stay tuned until the movie is out.
u cant freeze it for 2 years and then come back like that, it wont have as much impact and ppl wont buidl their hopes as much

love your work, keep it going

I really hope we get a Neo Geo Nerd episode soon. Just seeing the few teases of the Nerd’s impression of the Neo Geo in the AVGN intros (measuring the giant cartridges, etc.) was hilarious on it’s own. Imagine 15 minutes of stuff like this. Looking forward to the Nerd movie as well James, and Turtle Tuesdays is always great. Keep on keepin’ on man :D.

Oh god, Im SO happy ure still gona make nerd episodes :)))))))
If they’re gonna be shitty, I dont care, is that how i like them. Just basic and funny game reviews. The others one are great, but u cant do both things :)
I only hope that u make episodes more often. its like u make an episode per year D:
at least on at month will be cool. Also, besides game reviews, do some episodes with information about the consoles, talk about the SNES, turbo graphix 16, differents sega consoles, they story and stuff, i wanna learn about that stuff.

It’s great to have back the regular AVGN, we all know that all the videos that you do takes a lot of effort and time. Not only the regular AVGN episodes but you’re also doing an amazing job with the TMNT videos, Board James, Over Analyzers (tough, I don’t like those videos very much). And the movie it’s something we all want to see.

So, I hope you know that your effort isn’t in vain, you have fans all over the world and we all support you. Any AVGN episode will be welcome and we will be waiting until the AVGN Movie it’s ready, you wont loose any of us fans.

I really hope that you find the way to do it big, in theaters all over the world, of course, internet it’s fine, but I think that your dream it’s doing it big and we all want that too. I think that you can do it.

I started watching your videos back in 2008 via a recommendation from a co-worker. I can honestly say that I am now completely a slave to anything you post on here I have also returned the favor of some one recommending your site to me, and have recommended your site to others.

So, I was glad to hear that you are going to keep em coming even if they make me say “what a shit load of fuck”! Keep em coming and can’t wait to see the feature length movie! Lets just hope its before Dec of 2012, because then the Mayans dictate that I won’t be able to see it.

As for episodes, I wouldn’t mind seeing you talk about some Genesis games, as I personally really been loving Sega lately. And that’s coming out a big, life-long Nintendo fan such as yourself. Hehe! Then again, I’m not that picky of what you do, because I don’t think there’s one episode of yours that I didn’t like, which makes it hard when it comes down to telling people what my favorite AVGN episode is. And of course, you can talk about some more LJN-made games, that always makes for some really good laughs! Just take your time and have fun. Don’t over-load yourself.

Hi AVGN!!! I love your episodes!!! They always bring a smile to my face!! Anyway, my comment is about another series you do every once in a while. It is the “You know what’s Bullshit!!”. I really hope you get some support to get the movie off the ground. As for the episodes, It’s a real shame you couldn’t fund it with a Kickstarter campaign but I don’t know if you could raise that much quickly.

I’m cool with the more “basic” episodes personally. I always liked the AVGN reviews because it was just like hanging out with a friend shooting the shit about games.

The costumes and sketches were hilarious but never really necessary. Good luck and I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

  • hauntedpixel

    June 1, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Uhh…that last comment about Kickstarter was aimed at the movie funding, not the episodes. Durp.

    June 1, 2011 at 5:01 pm

To be completely honest, I think it’d be better for you to not do the episodes right now. Its clear that its hard to keep the AVGN concept fresh and it showed. While I get that you are still technically working on it, you aren’t writing so much so it could give you some time think up some great ideas.

I think I know why you are doing the episodes though, its probably important to keep the AVGN name relevant so that when the movie comes out people know. However reducing quality might just be counter-productive to this.

  • June 1, 2011 at 5:06 pm

avgn forever and im sure that once the movie is done that the videos will be restored to their glory

    June 1, 2011 at 5:06 pm

To be perfectly honest, some of my favorite ones were the early ones! I would be totally happy with more of that type. I think the average episodes don’t need the huge production value. ;) Can’t wait!

  • June 1, 2011 at 5:09 pm

I would be happy enough just getting more episodes, and I kind of liked the earlier ones. Please keep us updated, I am excited.

I just rewatched the Ed Wood movie yesterday (lovng it from start to finish), and as he made those super fast super cheap but yet cult movies of his, one word kept comming to mind: cinemassacre. Cause that’s what it’s all about, getting the vision inside your brane to assume material form despite all obsticles, even if you need to use a chainsaw to do it

  • June 1, 2011 at 5:14 pm

To be honest james, i really never enjoyed so much all the acting, the costumes and all that stuff, i know you putted a lot of time and effort on it, but it was “meh” at most. So don’t worry about leaving that stuff behind, i know it might be fun for you to do it, but if you have to cut it i won’t be complaining about it. If your vids are just game footage with your voice over and then shots at your reactions and such, that works fine for me. Nostalgia Critic does just that most of the time and it works fine, so don’t worry about it. Im glad you will continue the series even tough i feel you want to quit, so i apreciate the gesture and i hope we’ll get the movie soon!. I told a friend who is a great animator and voice actor to mail you and see if he can help, hope its helpfull!.

  • June 1, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Sure, James. Go ahead and focus more on your movie. One thing though, try to keep throwing in funny lines and stuff on your basic videos. Make them still funny to watch, or some of them.

I look forward to the movie. I understand how that’s the big goal. Don’t try harder on your videos if it’ll delay the movie. I look forward to what’s coming.

You’ve done so much for all of us, giving us hours of unbelievable entertainment, and what do you do? You amaze me. Again. You’re going to make the most epic thing since Kickassia, and continue to release AVGN episodes? That is so awesome that words can’t describe it. You, good sir, are a legend. I await the return of the Nerd, but take your time, man. Don’t just do it because of the demand, do it because you want to. We all support you, James. Thank you for entertaining us!

  • JWalker30

    June 1, 2011 at 5:59 pm

The 2006 episodes are the best. They were less about explaining all the details of the game and more about your REACTION to the game. That is the essence of what we all love about the AVGN. Don’t worry about making 20 minute long movies that show all the levels and the ending of a game, I would much prefer episodes like the 2006 ones where you just tear them a new asshole.

You know what could have been cool? just leaving the AVGN series on that EPIC 100th episode. Like a farewell episode, then focusing entirely on the movie. But it’s OK, let’s hope for the best here. Yours is a extraordinary mind sir, i’m sure you can pull both off.

  • common passerby

    June 1, 2011 at 6:12 pm

when will we get a trailer?

  • June 1, 2011 at 6:16 pm

Wow, that is awesome news to hear, James. As many others have said, many of us would have been content with you strictly focusing on the movie, and not have anymore AVGN episodes come out until you were done with the movie.

It’s great to hear that you are making some progress on the pre-production. I wonder if any company would be interested? If not, if it’s independent, I just hope it can wide enough distribution so all the fans can see it!

My friends and I have been a fan of yours since the Angry Nintendo Nerd days, and honestly, yes, those are some of the best episodes, are those early ones. If the series goes back to that ‘efficient and basic’ style then that would be no problem with me. As I said, I was content to just wait for the movies and watch the other random stuff you threw out, but more AVGN episodes and you’re going to be working on the movie?! That’s awesome, man! Keep up the good work, your fans will be interested to see what amazing thing you do next, and I am sure the AVGN movie will not disappoint! :)

  • June 1, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Honestly, I just like to see you get pissed off at the games and talk about how shitty they are. The side-stories are kinda funny, but probably not required to tell the tale. Just tape yourself playing games, cut out the boring parts, and call it a day. We’ll eat it up – trust me.

Also, the Turtles Pizza Tasting episode was totally badass. More like that would be fine too!

  • ness_psiwarrior

    June 1, 2011 at 6:19 pm

Yeah I prefer the older ones, you showed more of the games in the older ones. Kinda forgot your own advice you gave Wizard in the later episodes, lol j/k.

But yeah man I’m sure well be cheering you on for another hundred episodes. Your the shit man dont give it up.

Oh and btw it would be fucking awesome if you did a Tron episode reveiw a bit on the movie, maybe you have the games as they came out on the atari 2600, and i know im not the only one who’d like to hear your opinion on the most recent Tron movie.

    Hi James,

If you need help making or promoting your AVGN film, try contacting the Opie & Anthony Show (Sirius XM Radio). They have some Hollywood friends (Kevin Smith, Jay Mohr, etc..) that may be able to help you out.
You once did a radio show from their studio, so I figured you have a relationship with the show.

I contacted one of their producers, Sam Roberts (@notsam on Twitter) about your film project and hopefully this will lead to the help you need!

This is their facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/opieandanthony.

    Best wishes,

PS .. I love Shitpickle! Please include some random appearances of Shitpickle in your film!!

personally, I think that James shouldn’t have to be bothered with having to do episodes of AVGN. It’s his show, let him do what he wants. But if he wants to that’s even cooler. I just don’t want him to have to worry about cranking out half-ass episodes and not have time for the movie.

You’re badass for fully immersing in your creative potential and are an inspiration. I look forward to the movie and even the new shitty episodes, which will ironically be better. Less IS more and I did like 2006′s formats better anyhow. They were simple and focussed on the shitty games.

  • Silgon

    June 1, 2011 at 7:28 pm

James what i think you should do with the AVGN episodes is to have 1 every 2 or 3 months. I might not know how time consuming making a movie is, but i believe that with that time you should be able to make a decent AVGN episode and still advance with the movie without much (if any) setbacks. Anyways i really wish i could help out with the movie itself but with my job and collage i really have no time.

Wish you the best of luck with the movie and hope that some movie company/studio/whatever comes and helps with the movie (instead of trying to change a whole lot and ruining it in the long run).

  • RC 1138

    June 1, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Maybe you could fill the gaps with Board James episodes. That should suffice with maybe an AVGN every 3 months.

I don’t know where you find the energy James…considering that you’re also married…speaking of which don’t push yourself too hard because you definitely need some angry little nerdlings eventually.

I think The Angry Video Game Nerd and Son would be awesome…imagine how cool that kid would be in school! I wish I could watch your reviews with my 7 year old nephew, but he’s still a bit too young for all the swearing (I know my brother wouldn’t mind, but my sister in law would probably cut my balls off). ^_^

Thank you again for all your hard work and dedication to your fans :)

Keep up the great work James, I have to admire you for putting out more AVGN movies, just dont stress yourself. I am on the site almost biweekly and look forward to the updates with you and Mike, you make my deployments in Afghan enjoyable my friend! I want to try to order a few movies from the site so I can introduce them to the other friends out here!

Hey, this is my first comment ever. I just wanted to say that what you do, and what a lot of internet celebrities do, is really quite spectacular. Everyone can see that the internet has become not only a great tool, but an incredible opportunity for expressing creativity. I just wanted to say: the AVGN, the Nostalgia Critic, the Spoony one (just to name a few), and all the other creatrive individuals on thatguywiththeglasses, blisteredthumbs, normalboots, etc., all seem to be regular people who aren’t satisfied with working some shitty wage job where their creative spirit is alienated. I’m not completely sure, but it doesn’t seem like there is much money in making videos. It’s not necessarily a viable alternative career. I think its incredible that you spend so much time and effort to do this sort of thing despite the strain it must put on your regular life.I don’t know what this will make people think, but I can’t help but reflect how much…well… what you guys are doing is a living example of Karl Marx’s concept of Species Being. This is entertainment that isn’t spoiled by any intermediary. It isn’t controlled by any kind of network or corporate programming. Its your creative ideas expressed directly to others. It builds on inspiration derived from other creative spirits before you. And by doing it, you’re not producing a commodity. Your going above and beyond to stay in touch with creative life activity that you share with a global community of other creative individuals.
“The whole character of a species-its species character–is contained in the character of its life-activity; and free, conscious activity is man’s species character… conscious life activity directly distinguishes man from animal life-activity… an animal only produces what it immediately needs for itself…it produces one-sidedly, whilst man produces universally. It produces only under the dominion of immediate physical need, whilst man produces even when he is free from physical need and only truly produces in freedom therefrom.” (The Early Marx, 76). Long Live Comrade Nerd!

James, we think you’re doing a great job, and any griping about the amount of AVGN videos out is just going to show that they are in high demand. Perhaps some of the fans would be willing to sponsor you if they could get a co-producer credit at the end?

Hey, did you ever think about doing an AVGN episode about all the games based on game shows? Even Smash TV should count for that, which I recall was a truly awful game.

  • CrimsonFireCF

    June 1, 2011 at 9:21 pm

You go James! I don’t think it is possible for there to be a shitty AVGN episode! I wish I could be of some help for the movie, but I don’t I can be any use, so I’ll just leave it at this…YOU ARE THE SHIT AND THE MOVIE WILL KICK ALL ASS! :D

  • Jman37X

    June 1, 2011 at 9:22 pm

I find it amazing that you actually are going to be doing AVGN episodes AND work on the movie at the same time, that is what you call true dedication, I have untold amounts of respect for you. I don’t even have the motivation to do regular updates for my YouTube channel, and to be honest, I think this was the final boost I needed to start doing a more regular updating schedule.

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:28 pm

I actually like the earlier ones even better, the new ones are great too but nothing like those first 20 or so. I can’t believe that James is taking on such a heavy role in AVGN episodes and AVGN Movie. That shows you how much love he gives to his fans. More people need to emulate James. Good work, will be looking forward to episodes and movies. Peace!

  • rockyownage90

    June 1, 2011 at 9:36 pm

James, great work, but PLEASE do not make the fatal mistake. This movie HAS to be good otherwise it will ruin the show. WIth the exception of the Simpsons which basically just made a movie-length T.V. episode, I don’t think there has been any great television show from my childhood that has survived a movie-version: including Power Rangers, Super Mario, Pokemon, Rugrats, and ESPECIALLY Doug. Once the movies came out, it was ALL downhill.

  • tenchibr

    June 1, 2011 at 9:39 pm

One suggestion: share the load of the new episodes with Mike; give him a raise (if you pay him at all), and let him share the spotlight while you work on the movie. I’m not saying you should not be in it, but let him make some game footage himself for example, or dialogue. That way you can be in it just for the directing and acting.

It’s clear that the Cinemassacre community approves of him, and I believe that would help out a lot.

  • mistaphill

    June 1, 2011 at 9:39 pm

The AVGN episodes dont need to be elaborate productions, just ripping on a crappy game while we see the footage will be just fine.

I think an SNES themed show would be good, like one about how bad the slowdown was in the earlier games (Super R Type, Gradius 3, UN Squadron, etc.)

A quick reply to rockyownage90: The first pokemon movie was entertaining enough and the show didn’t suck balls for another year.
Now kudos to you James for pulling double-duty to keep your fans entertained and happy. Most filmmakers, youtubers, etc… would simply bail on their fan bases without so much as a cancellation notice. But keep things simple and relax. You’ve got a lot on your plate and we’d hate to see you have some sort of breakdown. Respect.

  • June 1, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Most people elsewhere are rejoicing that you’re going back to basics, I’m happy your still at it till today! I’d have to agree with some of the others elsewhere that the episodes eventually became to convoluted with so much happening and ignoring most of the game. It became skits instead of talking about the game, and I think most people are just happy that it’s going back to basic video games and ranting.

  • June 1, 2011 at 10:03 pm

Yeah seriously. AVGN videos don’t need to be 20-30 minutes like they’ve been(though I’ve immensely enjoyed those as well). I still routinely go and watch the oldest ones that were only 8-10 minutes and featured nothing but voice over. Still highly entertaining.

  • Griff

    June 1, 2011 at 10:03 pm

I’m totally fine with you going back to a more basic style James, the 2006 episodes are classics and so long as the scripts are good and the games interesting that’s all you need

I mean I like all the “characters” and skits and everything you’ve had, but cutting back on that sort of stuff is not a big deal at all

Go on with your bad self James! You, sir, have an amazing work ethic! I would be more than happy to see the nerd end with an awesome movie. I’m sure it gets tiring writing for the same character over and over and I know you have other projects you want to get to. I wish I had the time to offer you my animation skills but I’m just as swamped. Keep up the awesome work my friend.

I’ve been pretty happy with all the different updates as of late, especially the videos, it’s been a nice change of pace. I think making the episodes basic again is a good idea. The AVGN could use a few flashy episodes like for Halloween or other specials but otherwise we just want the core anger and footage of the game’s problems.

I welcome the movie and will wait as long as it takes so take all the time you need on it James, I support you. =P

    June 1, 2011 at 11:36 pm

I’m kind of excited to hear that you are going back to the basic formula for the upcoming episodes. Honestly, I think those old ones (especially MC Kids) were some of my favorites. Don’t get me wrong, the new stuff you do is quite entertaining, but the sarcastic tones and to-the-point reviews on the games was always fun to watch. The newer stuff just sometimes feels less like a review, and more like a show trying to flesh out the nerd character. Thats all good in its own way though, really brings the nerd to life, and probably more relateable for a lot of people… but you know, classics are classics :)

  • Inkrypted

    June 1, 2011 at 11:39 pm

I say just do the episodes when the mood hits you or you have a sudden burst of inspiration. I always thought this was your way of blowing off stress so don’t let it become a source of stress. I appreciate all the cool stuff you and Mike do.

  • Shiva.Souza

    June 1, 2011 at 11:40 pm

I believe that almost anyone who follows you and your videos know that your dream is to be a movie director.
We can see it in the “live action” parts you put in every review. Effects, make up, clothing… etc

Now, this may sound strange but, most of us don’t really need that to enjoy your videos. I enjoy your “Top ten movie cliches” and your “my dvd collection” as much as any AVGN video.
The reason most of us watch your videos its because you speak very well. You make great points, you touch subjects that we care about and when you talk about something, we can really feel you know about it.

As a movie fan to another, I would compare your work to Bruce Lee. Bruce had such a fantastic and calm way of talking about things, and everytime he said anything you know he had knowledge about it.

So thats why we watch the Nerd, or movie reviews or anything. The nerd freaking out is VERY funny and well done and your reviews are great.

Actually, somebody talked about Mike. And I Agree, you two have lot of chemistry together on the screen, that mario dvd menu review was VERY funny. Mike was very funny.

Playing 2 player games with Mike would open up a whole set of games you could review. Now, since the nerd is very loud and energetic, of course its hard to put another character around him . But I believe Mike’s sarcastic style and the nerd freaking out could work very very well.

James is kinda like a geek everyman.

  • June 1, 2011 at 11:46 pm

Hi James! This was a really nice surprise! I was almost totally sure that you were not going to make any new nerd episodes (and that was very reasonable). So this is a veeeery nice thing!! I think that all your fans will be very happy to know that it will be a new episode, just to know that someday that’s going to happen, and even if they are basic. Your sense of humor is so great that your voice over footage will be enough, and very entertaining.

So keep up the good work, don’t get stressed with AVGN episodes, If you can make one every 2 month or so, even if it’s only voice over footage, it would be very nice.

Greetings from Chile, and sorry my bad english xD

I don’t usually subscribe to blogs, but I just had to become a member for the sake of telling you that I’ve been watching your stuff since the early AVGN days, and am pumped about your commitment to the movie. I check your blog every day religiously and will continue to, whether or not new episodes come along. You have a lot to offer film-wise James, keep it up!

  • dennisl_89

    June 1, 2011 at 11:57 pm

I believe that you should focus on the film if you cannot handle two things in the same time. You don’t have to endure much pressures by impatient fans to make new episodes while trying to get the film in process. But, if you willing to do that, then I’ll respect your final decision. What I more concern is your goal to be a movie director; your dream. I don’t mind that the show would be put on hold until the film’s done. Just do your thing, Roulfe. =)

  • Elvenking

    June 2, 2011 at 12:19 am

Yes…basic episodes!! After all..they are the reason why people are anxiously awaiting your movie. Hell…I think the episode format is the way to go. Charge for them…I don’t care…just give us that classic AVGN feel we have all come to love over the ages. I cannot tell you how awesome it is to see a new AVGN episode come up I will sometimes save iot for a friday night even if it comes out earlier, so I can get a few beers deep and enjoy some quality ranting and raving over some game that aches anyone who plays. James, you are an inspiration!! Thank you for being…the AVGN. My idol!!

Pumped for the movie. I was cool with you halting episode production, I understood it and besides we’ve gotten plenty of other videos to hold us over- so that’s a pleasant surprise.

And yeah, watch an awesome few years! Ever since my friends showed me a video (McKids, I think it was) I’ve always tuned in to see them, I’ve seen them all, several times each.. There’s variety, absolute comic gold, hilarity… good, good, good stuff.

Thanks for the years of entertainment and best of luck to your movie!

I agree with Inkrypted. The new episodes need not come out on any particular schedule. Sporadic episodes are just fine with me. I must say that although I really like the old style of nerd videos, sometimes seeing the “effect” of the bad games on the AVGN is what gets the most laughs from me. My favorite episode is still Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout simply because I still laugh every time I see him take out all his frustration and rage on Bugs. I mean, he completely tears Bugs to shreds. That is hilarious.

  • Calavera

    June 2, 2011 at 2:31 am

So it sounds like it’s gonna take about 3 years to get the movie released. So you are going to have to keep releasing nerd episodes. Otherwise even as dedicated as your fans are, lets say the movie is released in 2014 do you think there is going to be much interest in the Nerd Movie when your last episode was April 2011? People can only watch the old episodes so many time before they lose interest and move onto something else. I think you would be better off just making the episodes because by the time the movie comes out, I don’t think many people are going to care by that time. I understand if you are busy with the movie you don’t have a much time to make episodes, that makes sense but you still have time to make those shitty OverAnalyzer episodes that nobody likes? Doesn’t make much sense unless those were filmed a long time ago. Sorry but I think you making AVGN the movie is the beginning of the end for the Nerd. Yes it’s been 3 months since your last nerd episode and I am still coming to the site. I have been watching your videos since around 2007 or so I think. I know that was 4 years ago and I’m still coming back, but that was 4 years with new videos. If the nerd episodes you are making are going to be the basic style like the 2006 videos, that is perfectly fine I enjoy those episodes. But if they are going to be the basic style that you can do quickly then there should at least be 2 episodes per month. You need to keep the interest in the Nerd alive if you plan on making a movie about it. Best of luck with the movie, I hope it does great. But as long as its going to take to be released I really think the interest will be very low by then. I’m in my twentys but you must realize a lot of your fans are much younger and in 3-4 years they are obviously going to be 3-4 years older and just like you grow out of a TV show or watching cartoons. I think some may grow out of the nerd episodes. That might be totally wrong idk, im just saying. In your video you sound like you are tired of making the nerd episodes, saying its hard to keep it fresh. If that is true why in the heck would you be making a movie about it? If you think you can’t keep the episodes fresh, how are you going to keep a whole movie about it fresh when you have already released 101 episodes. Idk James, if you are set on making the movie, I think it would be best to release it in parts. That way the first part could be released much sooner while interest is still somewhat high. You may think I am some ungrateful fan, but that is not the case. I am just giving my honest opinion on the situation. Hopefully I am wrong and there will still be interest in the Nerd 3-4 years from now. If it takes longer than that then I can almost guarantee there will be very little interest. In my opinion I don’t think the movie will ever be released. You are already tired of the nerd character, I expect you to lose interest in the movie before it is finished too. Prove me wrong, that is just my opinion.

Your “cheaper” 2006 stuff is still gold and is the core of what makes AVGN so awesome. Don’t worry about not being able to “one up” your latest work. The 2006 stuff is the core awesomeness and in a way is getting back to basics.

    June 2, 2011 at 3:19 am

How many times can AVGN say shitloadoffuck? Infinite – we hang on those angry words no matter how many times its said its still funny! Also just the random, over the top anger is the funniest for me, getting angry over the littleest of details IS the angle. One thing James, if your racking your mind over a subjects, how about concentrating on Sega games for a while, there’s plenty of shit games on the Sega systems too (would you believe). Also, you dont have to always be angry, its interesting just using the AVGN character in reviewing games and movies in general. Have fun making the movie, and remember that Peter Jackson started independent – check out a movie called “Bad Taste” if you dont already know about it. Seeya

Long time fan, I watched your episodes since day one. I kept wondering how long you would carry on, James. Not saying it is running out of steam but to keep it fresh is a daunting task. You did well and AVGN remains strong and funny. I hope you carry on and find the inspiration to bring us great episodes.
I can’t wait for the movie.

Its great you are still going to do some episodes. However I feel they should be occasional episodes so I reckon you could still have the halloween/xmas episodes no problem, then like throw in an odd game or two in between. If you do too many episodes before the movie, the movie won’t be fresh and in my opinion, the movie should be your #1 priority.
If Tommy Wiseau can have his film made and that Fred guy from youtube can have his own movie then I don’t see any problem in having your own film made.
Whatever you decide to do, we’ll all be behind you all the way.

I just registered on the site to support you with your avgn movie and see no problem at all of making cheaper and easier avgn episodes.

Although i like the production of the newer ones i always found the basic ones a lot more fun to watch.

keep up the good work james !!

  • June 2, 2011 at 5:23 am

This is only a good thing. IMO the older, more straight to the point videos were the best. More factual and entertaining, with less of the drawn out drama and action sections. I can see how some would like that sort of thing, but it just bored me…

  • June 2, 2011 at 5:29 am

Good to hear some news on the movie.. ^^
And the old episodes were awesome, so I don’t really think it’ll be less good, just because they’re more “back to basics” like. ^^ James! You got all our support! ^^

  • June 2, 2011 at 5:51 am

Another long time fan, first time commenter here!
Just wanted to chip in: Seems like every time I check out the comments here over the last year or so, there’s always a few saddening, selfish-seeming comments saying James should just stick to doing what they like watching and forget the rest of it. AVGN is what brought me to this site originally but it’s the boatload of interesting and informative movie reviews and other videos that have kept me here. Kind of wish there was a Monster Madness DVD!
So I guess if I had to make my own suggestion for what James Rolfe should do, it would be something corny like ‘whatever he’s passionate about’, because that’s where he’ll do his best work. Chances are I’ll dig it.

  • June 2, 2011 at 6:34 am

I think we can all agree, that while not as “shiny and over the top” as the new episodes, the old episodes are what gathered most of us here today. And theyre very dear to our heart and we will GLADLY accept those videos back. As one person above me stated, the nerds what brough alot of us here, but James Rolfe the individual is what KEPT us here. Much love and thanks.

    @DirkDiggler

Go diggle your dirk somewhere else. James is a movie maker. It’s what he’s always wanted to do. AVGN was just a hobby so he’s doing what he loves. It’s either this or nothing so quit your whining.

Whatever it is you are planing, I am sure you are doing the right thing. Just take care and don’t go for too much, every single fan of yours will understand that you also have a private life, and you should not let that go. However, I am sure the movie is something you really want to do, as there is no question to the fact that this movie will be presented to an insanely huge audience, and this is a once in a life time opportunity for a talented filmmaker like you are. Not only talented, but you listen to your fans. You are self-critical enough to see that the audience may have a different perspective on what you do, and different expectations, and changing your ways so rapidly and accurately as you do to please your fans is what makes you not only unique on the internet, I think it makes you unique as an artist in the medium of film. I second on what other people said: We are pleased with what you present us, even if it is more basic and shorter than the elaborate episodes you presented us before. And you are right, 101 episodes is INSANE if you think about it. You sir, you have every right to be proud of what you did. Walk with your head held high, you’ve earned it!

    June 2, 2011 at 7:53 am

I think what a big part of what made your AVGN videos so popular to begin with was that you clearly had a knowledge and appreciation for the games (even some of the shitty ones) that the average person can’t muster.
I get that impression with your Monster Madness series as well.
Keep doing that and people will keep watching.

I can’t wait to see the movie and I’ll wait as long as it takes. I look up to you James as a person, as actor and as a director. I’m doing my finals to get my profession as a media technican and I hope to be a director someday. You are one of the reasons I got interested in this carrier and if I achieve half of what you did Id be proud of myself.
I’m saying this in the name of all of your fans in Hungary that we will support you as much as we can.

In regards to funding, you have enough fans that if you were simply to ask viewers to donate what they could via pay pal, you could probably get at least a great start toward your pre-production costs for props and the like. if one of every 100 regular viewers donated say 10$ your set. A few other indie films have started going this route to cover their costs. worth a shot.

    Hi James

I’ve been a big fan of your AVGN videos for many years now, though i’ve never signed up to Cinemassacre, until now. I don’t know if you or Mike will read this message, but I just wanted to say that, whilst its really great that you persist to please your many fans, don’t think that we’re just here for your gaming rants. The main reason i’m still watching your videos after all these years, alongside the many move reviews and Monster Madness videos you’ve made, is because your passion for these things really comes across well. Your opinions and your experiences have been really interesting to follow and as much as i’ve enjoyed the AVGN rants, its these opinions and experiences with the games that have made the videos as great as they are.

What i’m trying to say is, perhaps the AVGN could review some good games again. I really enjoyed your Castlevania Retrospective and it was a refreshing change of pace compared to the episodes around it. You really sold the series well and bought back many gaming memories, both fustrating and enjoyable. Perhaps sharing more positive gaming experiences will be make things a little easier for you whilst you organise the film behind the scenes. I don’t know. It would at least make the AVGN’s film debut more extreme!

Either way, its been a great ride so far and I can’t really see things going down hill. I look forward to the new AVGN episodes in the future!

  • June 2, 2011 at 9:39 am

Oh yeah, you sure have one big project there. I have done some small movies myself, though mostly unscripted, but I know that it can be very tricky in getting people on certain dates, when people cancel half way through (sick, move, die, etc), finding locations, and maybe in your case moving the whole cast to different locations. Can’t comment on budget because our budget has been pizzas and kebabs (splitting the cost).
And I’m not sure what I can contribute. I’m good at mixing and messing up sounds in GoldWave, Audacity, and Mod Trackers. I know my way around 3D programs like Maya 6, 3D Studio Max 6, and Bryce 5, but I’m not very good at modelling or making textures. If I sit down and really put effort into it, I think I can come up with some good vehicles, robots, and animations. I’m also planning on learning how to edit HL2/Source over the summer (hopefully) and maybe turn it into a movie studio. Can already do such a thing with Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2, just haven’t found the motivation to do all the character animations.

  • June 2, 2011 at 9:47 am

PS. How about you take the whole summer off from the AVGN series and just focus on the film as much as possible. At least, that would be a good chance to get the full cast because everyone is free from work/school.
But if you are gonna continue with the series, may I suggest you pick out some of those (small) games that you don’t need to make such a big deal out of, and leave the bigger ones for after the movie.

  • BraveSirBevier

    June 2, 2011 at 10:02 am

In reality, I think what made the Nerd great was James. It wasn’t the special effects, the storyline or the guest actors in makeup. I don’t even think it was the excessive swearing. For, me it was listening to James play game that I grew up with and see that his reaction to playing it was the same as mine back then. The reason the cursing was funny was because that was my reaction to the game, as well.

Thus, I am all for the more “simplistic” episodes and I welcome back the old James!

  • j.sager1982

    June 2, 2011 at 10:32 am

Great stuff James. We’re all looking forward to the movie, as well as some new more basic episodes. What got a lot of people hooked on AVGN to begin with was how funny and simple those early episodes were. My favorite one will always be Roger Rabbit. Well done.

  • June 2, 2011 at 10:52 am

I have to say that I do enjoy the old reviews more than the new ones. Not that I don’t like the new ones they are great.

It’s good to hear that James still will be doing AVGN episodes. Especially when he said that the movie could take about 2 years to complete.

Keep up the good work James and we’ll see the movie appear whenever it’s ready…

Keep on doing what you do best…

James, I think that you should just mainly focus on the movie instead of making shitty avgn episodes, if you do. Quality over quantity. I’d rather have a long wait for an excellent movie than an even longer wait with bad avgn episodes.

    June 2, 2011 at 11:19 am

Have you ever thought about DarkStone Pictures, the one you doing Plan 9 with (DarkStone is the correct name, right?).

In terms of the eps., its possible that making as they originally were may be a good idea. In one ep, you said “just look at all these shitty games, enough to work with”. Perhaps you can bring out your best satire about all the little nit picks as previously done. That way, you can get out a lot of video reviews of a larger sum of your catolog. I’m pretty damn certain you’d be 40-50 by the time you get to review all the games on your shelves, for all systems.

Hell, with the way they were going, you’d be 80 like in your Christmas ep.! For now on, I think it should be set up differently to that big episodes are lain out for the most popular and obscure franchises, whereas smaller 3-5 minute eps can be for the simpler titles. The way I see it, two to three small videos a month could be handed out .

Do what ya want though! I hope you can at least squeeze out a lot of games from your collection during the movie and then return to normal after that.

  • June 2, 2011 at 12:01 pm

It seems for me like James came up with the idea of continuing AVGN episodes only while filming this message) I think that a lot of fans are willing to wait for the movie, as long as takes, even without episodes. Nothing should distract James from creating this masterpiece)

  • viJilance

    June 2, 2011 at 12:11 pm

By basic (2006) do you mean “better”? Back when you would GET ANGRY at these shitty games. Nowadays all you do is special effects and weird stories. Try some good old classic childhood anger.

  • June 2, 2011 at 12:21 pm

Hey James. I’m glad to hear that you’re working hard on the AVGN movie. I certainly think that you deserve to have a semi-big movie on your hands if you ask me. I hope that you are able to submit it to different festivals around the world in the future when it is finished and that this becomes your “big break” so to speak. I’m sure all of your fans are rooting for you nonetheless! It’s going to be a great movie and everyone is excited.

I’ve been watching you since 2006 I’d say, and have been a big fan ever since. I certainly didn’t even expect you to say you’d keep making AVGN videos! That is great news to me, even though I’d understand if you gave it a break for about a year or so just to work on the movie. I have to say you are a very hard worker and you love to please your fans. That is so very admirable in my book and respect you immensely for that. I think if you were to continue AVGN episodes, keeping it simple is the best thing you can do. I think that the main draw of the episodes are hearing you talk about games (you’re a great interesting speaker), the comedy (you’re very funny and a great comedy writer) and the nostalgia aspect, besides the fact that it is interesting to see the games in action and criticizing them for their crapfactor is entertaining as hell.

I hope you’re doing well and I hope that everything runs smoothly for you with the movie. I can’t wait to see the results and I hope that you take all the time you need to get it done and that you don’t feel pressured by the demand. Overall you should do what you think is right, and do your best at everything. My regards!

THANK YOU JAMES. I am SO happy to hear AVGN will go on while your movie is in the works. We honestly don’t care how well there done, The review alone from you is worth watching to me. So keep it up and thanks again!

  • June 2, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I’d like to echo what other people have already said. AVGN episodes don’t have to be cinematical artistry. I watch them for the nerd.

I think it’s pretty cool that he’s keeping us fans informed with what’s going on behind the scenes .. the AVGN episodes, in my personal opinion don’t need to continue as much or cranking them out at the rate he had in the past. I just watched his cinemassacre 200 video, and as an artist myself I can respect the guy’s passion towards his craft putting in all that work over the years…

  • darkknightdetec

    June 2, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Honestly James? I don’t think you should feel like you have to overly please people by constantly putting out half-done episodes while you could be spending your time doing more with the movie. If I were you, I would just focus on the movie to make it as best as it can be, and maybe very sparingly release episodes (so you can work on them little by little over the course of months). But it’s up to you dude. Good luck either way, and I can’t wait for the movie!

  • rmfgotenks

    June 2, 2011 at 1:18 pm

While your later episodes were entertaining, your earlier episodes are my favorites. This is a good thing. Just like Rocky III. You had fun with your fancy training gym, then Clubber came in the form of your script that forces you to go back to the grity, grimey gym that was like the enviroment that made you popular in the first place. It’s just a good thing no trainers died in the process. Eye Of The Tiger James.

    June 2, 2011 at 1:36 pm

it’s good to here that the movie is on it’s way and that avgn episodes are on their way too.

i just can help but feel that james doesn’t want to do the episodes while working on the movie. maybe he feels like he will lose his fans if the movie takes too long to make.

it sometimes feels like there are too many people who come to this site just to complain about him not making more and better avgn episodes and i think james sometimes feels that he’s got to give in to them.

it’s just a feeling i got. maybe it’s not true but anyways i don’t want to wait longer for an awesome movie to come out just because some whiners were whining about shit they don’t understand. maybe the quality of the movie will also suffer because james “has” to make the regular episodes at the same time.

i hope this isn’t true though. i hope he does it because he feels like it and have some fresh ideas more suitable for shorter episodes.

James, i really think you should do whatever you want to do cus the real fans know that you have done an amazing job so far and dont care if you dont make a new episode for a while when concentrating on the movie. like few people have already said, i like the old episodes the most cus there were not so many special effects and you focused on the game itself. im not complaining i like the new ones too. just do what YOU want to do cus YOU are the one that entertained us for all those hours.

    June 2, 2011 at 2:31 pm

I have to say you are making a smart move by continuing the Nerd. I love all of your reviews, even the more serious ones, yes, but itès the Nerd that really takes the cake in terms of popularity. I think that, whilst the Nerd is extremely popular right now, were you to completely quit doing Nerd videos in order to focus on the Nerd movie, people may start to lose interest, especially since, as you said, you expect the movie to take a little while. I think that, if you want your Nerd movie to be as succesful as can be, then the best route is definitely to keep the Nerd alive in some way until in the meantime, otherwise you’ll risk losing your audience’s attention.

That being said, I would pay money to go to see your movie either way. I don’t mean for my comment to seem rude at all, it’s just my take on the matter. I really do love your videos, James, regardless of what they are of and how quickly they are published.

P.S. I sincerely hope you will be able to continue your tradition of Monster Madness this October. Being that October is my birthday month and your horror reviews are likely my favourite, it’s almost come to be a month-long birthday gift for me~ Hahaha.

Anyway, rock on, my nerd, rock on.

This is just from my view, but I’ve out grown the nerd stuff and i really, and i mean, really enjoy your movie reviews and other work related stuff. Your movie reviews are my favorite out of everything that you do. So keep that up. And i like it when you go to movie locations, that’s real cool. I’ll always be a huge fan James, and i am looking forward to watching this movie one day :)

You could just do a voice-over with footage of the game and people would watch them. Just make sure that the writing is good. We don’t need the special effects or the elaborate story lines.

  • June 2, 2011 at 4:08 pm

I loved the more basic episodes. if anything, I think you kinda went overboard with special effects in some episodes that didn’t really need that kind of ‘special’ treatment. It would be great to go back to the old style for a while.

Dude, its fine. There are already 101 eps of the AVGN. I suggest you stop them and continue on the movie itself, we all can wait. But if you insist on doing more while making them movie, some suggestions.

    Conan – NES
    Dungeons and Dragons – NES
    Swords and Serpents – NES

Also, love the little hints of the movie plot, with the E.T. picture and figure lol

I can’t speak for everyone, but at least me and all my friends I talk about your show with. The reason we watch is not the humor in it’s own. It’s the geek-in-the-basement feeling. Dusting of old games. even though they are shit, the shit quality is funny in its own way. And you take the shit quality and portray it with your own kind of humor, which enhances it even further.

I like the humor. But I would still watch the show if it was stripped from all humorous elements. Just you playing the games and commenting on them is enough for me and my friends. We recognize that old childhood mentality, finishing the games even though they sucked… just because!

To put it simply, I takes me back. Everything about your show is a time machine… AND I LOVE JUST THAT. And I think that most of us think of it like this. It’s a awesome of returning, you really do a great job of taking us all back to experience it. The games may be shit, that’s the fun bit, but the everything else is nostalgia.

Just go for it man! I know how hard it is to get something this big started (I find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning!) But if anyone can make a movie about shitty games that’s 100% funny as hell its you, and I can’t wait to see it! It’s going to be fuckin’ awesome!

  • June 2, 2011 at 5:54 pm

We can’t wait for the movie, man! If you need to scale back regular Nerd episodes, we totally understand. So don’t worry! You’ve got a whole community of fans and supporters here who are going to back you in whatever you do because you’re cool and because you’re appreciative of us.

I loved the old episodes, so there’s no reason to apologize for going basic. The best episodes are the ones that focus on the games (and the Spider-Man episode, just because the back-and-forth dialogue was great.)

Good luck with the movie, man!

  • June 2, 2011 at 6:23 pm

  • net_rogue

    June 2, 2011 at 6:41 pm

James, there are no “shitty” AVGN episoes. Some of my favorite shows were the old school vids without the fancy effects and cut scenes; ones that just had scenes of the games you review and your voice-over. However, the bigger budget episodes were fantastic as well such as Ninja Gaiden. that being said…. like I said, there are no shitty episodes.

Keep up the great work man, it’s always a pleasure.

  • KaineDamo

    June 2, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Calavera is an idiot. So tired of these idiots that ‘demand’ 2 episodes per month, or they will ‘lose interest’.

I don’t really think James should burn himself out and it really ought to be up to him how he approaches the future, and not these whiners.

I remember a period of time when the Nerd was doing 2 episodes a month. And when he returned to 1 episode a month, the whiners came out of the wood works. They’ll always demand more, with absolutely zero real world sense of how much work goes into these videos, and that it isn’t a good idea for James to burn himself out leading up to a movie.

Yes! back to the basics. I gotta say that those are my favorite episodes by far. That’s not to say that the later ones are bad, rather just a little more distracted than the earlier ones. Go, go, go, James! Can’t wait for the movie, but it seems I will. Good luck with it all :)

Love everything you do James. You’re truly an inspiration. Keep up the great work. :)

James, we all love your work, you deserve a break man, work on just the movie, and, get some R&R. We will survive without episodes until the movies done. Don’t forget to take care of YOU, we come after. Take care of yourself, after 101 episodes you don’t deserve a break you NEED one. Love your work James, and not just AVGN, all your work is fantastic, you deserve more exposure then you get. Don’t ferget to live life, or it will pass you by

I think it would be great to see one last big episode with a good cliffhanger and hang it up for a while. Something that could tie into the plot with the movie. Anyway I watch everything you do regardless. Love the movie reviews esp. monster madness.

For some reason when I imagine the AVGN movie I think of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Packed with nostalgia, road trip style set locations, kinda like Peewees Big Adventure.

I think with your connections with conventions and fans etc. you can pull some really great cameos. :)

I couldn’t help but notice the ET doll and the poster in back of him. Is he foreshadowing the major plot of the movie? I’m imagining an AVGN review that turns into a movie and game spoof. I’m thinking it will also spoof some of the games he made in the past and call back characters we’ve seen throughout the show. I’m probably wrong but if I’m not I’d love to see a moment when it turns from day to night and the text from Simon’s Quest pops up.

All I wanna say is that we all love your work, which is why we really miss it. But knowing that you’re working on your movie is more than enough to keep us happy. I can watch your old episodes over and over and still laugh like crazy :D

Anyway…I wish you the best with your movie! Trust me, you’re an inspiration for a lot of us!

  • June 2, 2011 at 11:15 pm

James, don’t have any worries about new episodes being “shitty,” those old ones i liked the most anyway. When it comes down to it, the fans need to keep seeing the nerd’s face or else interest in the film will fade, and then what’s the point of making it. Gonna be a rough road for a bit but hopefully it takes you where you’re looking to go. Thanks for everything!

Dude! There was nothing wrong with what you started out with. Just play some games and throw in your colorful opinions. I’ve been watching since you’ve started posting your videos. I’ve enjoyed every one and even if you never started throwing in animations, sound effects, and other bells and whistles, I would have still enjoyed it. I’m sure most of your fans feel the same. Good luck on everything, James!

I am very happy to see this video as a fan. I really hope you keep posting more videos on the progress of the movie and hopefully give us viewers some behind the scene awesomeness. Also, I think the decision to keep making AVGN review videos was the right choice. It will keep the casual fan coming back to see your nostalgic and hilarious game reviews while giving a treat to your loyal fans. I can’t wait till this movie is released and I will for sure be there to support it the day it comes out.

yo james! dude what u should do is take a break from the nerd vids and just do the movie. i love the nerd vids as much as the next guy but don’t do anything half-assed just to please the fans. concentrate on the movie 100% so u can put out the best product possible. ur fans arent going anywhere bro. even if u put the nerd vids on hold for awhile we’ll always be here when you return. it’s probably time for the nerd to take an extended break. its just like in the movies, sometimes big movie franchises like godzilla or friday the 13th or whatever take a break for awhile then come back and everyone is like “holy shit!! GODZILLA or JASON is coming back!!” dude let the nerd lay low for awhile then re-emerge and i promise you it will be epic. all ur fans will be like “HOLY FUCK HE’S BAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!”

    James,

I have watched you for a very long time and I have got to say that I appreciate the videos that you have made thus far. Everyone who watches should appreciate everything that has gone into these episodes. If you need to take a brake because your getting gassed, then take a brake. We have waited this long for news about the AVGN so we can wait just a little bit longer. I have followed you patiently through the valley of Hyde and will continue to follow you in your en-devours. Just enjoy what you do and we will enjoy what you decide to do. Have Mike start a running series on game glitches or continue things like the Pizza Taste Test. Videos like that are highly entertaining to watch and should suffice anyone crowing for more videos. When you guys decide what to do, just let us know and anyone who truly appreciates what you do will accept it and keep following you as I have.

Best Wishes for all of the Cinemassacre crew,

    Kyle

It’s tough James. But you are doing what you love for a living. When you reach a level of fame, it’s hard to know what your next step is. Do I try to reach a broader audience? Or do I stick with trying to please my core followers? I would like to suggest that you try to expand your audience. Your natural personality and talent demand it. I’m not a video game fan or a horror movie fan, but, your site made those things interesting and fun for me. I became a fan regardless. You are passionate about these things and you communicate them beautifully to those of us who aren’t as passionate. anyway, your in a great place… have fun, and let it ride!

For a while there, when you started talking about how happy you are about the fact that you managed to make 101 episodes, I was startin’ to get a little worried. But when I heard “I’m doing both.”, I eargasmed. Seriously, man, I don’t care if the episodes are basic: if somebody starts ranting about the episodes being way too simple or something like that, I’ll tear that somebody a new one. Do what you love to do and the audience will surely applaud. Keep up the good work! *thumbs up*

  • trophy handz

    June 3, 2011 at 5:30 am

I’m really surprised at how many people are asking if the ET poster and doll are ‘foreshadowing’ the film – did none of you see his most recent episode? The one about Spielberg games? He had the ET cartridge on the floor, kept looking at it then flinching and ignoring it, then ended the review by looking at a different, European-only ET game (where ET was shown on the cartridge as playing in the park with a balloon and a piece of toast while saying “ET Go Come”), then ended the review by saying “I play a lot of shitty games, but there’s one game I never play”, and one final shot of the ET cartridge before the captions read “To Be Continued…in AVGN: The Movie”. This isn’t a foreshadowing – that’s simple confirmation that, yes, the focal point of the film is going to be reviewing ET. James figured you were all aware of that, which was why he had the ET stuff in the background.

Not criticising anyone here, I was just a bit surprised that so many people either forgot what happened in the last episode or didn’t see it at all. If you’re one of those people, go and watch it – he reviews quite a lot of games in it, mostly Jurassic Park but also Jaws on NES and Hook on NES (I wish he would have played the Mega Drive/SNES version as well, that game was a LOT better and deserved a bit of credit).

As for the reviews, I appreciate what you’re doing. I think most reasonable people on here would have been perfectly happy to see you work only on the film for a while, or maybe produce one or two regular episodes during that time (‘regular’ = on par with Lester The Unlikely or Milon’s Secret Castle etc. No frills). For you to continue producing the episodes while making the film must be really stressful especially with a wife and cats to think about. The vast majority of us appreciate it and will support you through thick and thin, even when the quality wavers occasionally because you’re doing this on a shoe-string budget for no reason other than we find your reviews funny. I’m also somewhat intrigued to see some more ’2006-style’ reviews, although the ones just after you left Youtube (Ghostbusters, Dragon’s Lair, Silver Surfer etc) was probably my favourite period for the show.

Bottom line, have some fucking continues, goddamn it. (By which I mean, keep up the good work, and if you start to get bogged down in anything, just take a break and put the episodes on hiatus while you concentrate on the film. We’ll understand completely.)

  • Skullo Dream

    June 3, 2011 at 5:31 am

Basic is good. No one does this like you even when you’re doing the bare minimum, and all of the extra effects and scripting is just going the extra mile.

On a side note, you could probably end AVGN after the movie if you wanted. Not that I’d want you to, but enough people have grown to like your work as yourself anyway. Lots of us would stick around regardless.

Then you dropped the bomb! • June 3, 2011 at 8:17 am

You’ve achieved something really phenomenal with the AVGN-series. Altough I’ll miss them not coming out as frequent as before, I think all the fans understands. I’ll wait forever if I have to. Keep it up James!

  • June 3, 2011 at 10:23 am

Excellent to hear that you’re in pre-production of the movie. If I could see AVGN on the big screen, that would blow my mind man. But if not, the movie is going to be awesome anyways.

Pre-production ooh yeah good luck James been with you since the first episode was posted in the net everyone I know is amped for the movie. Episodes are episodes as long as there’s a shitty game and the nerd I think everyone will be happy hell just knowing there is a MOVIE coming is enough for me. I don’t care how long it takes for the movie to get finished it could be 3 years for all I care I’m still going to be amped and waiting keep up the good work.

    jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaames!!!!!!

I’ve literally been sitting around waiting for something new from you.

I shit my pants a bit when you started slowing down the updates, never mind this gigantic gap. the number of shitty days I’ve had and thought… yes! at least there’s an AVGN video and new game to watch!

you’ve got to appreciate, I (and I’m sure quite a few of the other people who watch) started watching when you were doing the more basic videos.

that is the essence of the games. sitting in the dark in the middle of the night, talking to friends about them.

the only ever console I owed, second hand, was an atari 2600. Yet I’ve watched most of these easily over ten times just to remind me of the memories of that time.

I realise you must be getting pretty tried of making these things by now, as your continually make them more complex or graphically interesting. but don’t fall into that shitstorm of modern games and films; “make it all way 3D and intense and it’ll be cool no matter how shite it is”

I know from the vast quantities of old stuff you buy, and older, cult movies you watch….. that is not the way….!

  • June 3, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Wow man.. This is going to be epic! Take your time m8, we all followed you these years, and there are no problems with a gap in the production of clips, we will wait. But i must say that i miss the episodes.. checking for a new one every month was awesome. But i understand it takes alot of your time, but THANK YOU so far! These years have been lots of fun thanks to you! Best wishes / Stefan

I do respect that you care for the fans by doing both…

But i’m worried more about your condition than about the videos… I’m not the one to judge, but if it does become too much, then don’t hestitate to take a break… We don’t want to see you have a burnout.

Your videos never get old anyway… I can rewatch them for ages :).

  • Rod-Trendy

    June 3, 2011 at 5:46 pm

    Hell yeah James!

“Shittier” episodes are better than nothing at all. But you know what? I understand that you ask yourself for how long you can keep this thing going, how often you can say shitload of fuck before it gets boring. I guess it is good to reset or how you movie guys call it: do a reboot of the franchise!

I think we all love to see the AVGN movie to conclude the AVGN chapter, but you got so much potential in that character you created. The world will miss the AVGN.

So do you “more basic episodes”, I personally LOVE when you give background information on different episodes, useless information which you didn’t even think of and then you say “uh yeah, that’s ubercool”.

So please continue the good work and call out for donations to the movie, you’ll have my support there!

    Greets, Rod

  • June 3, 2011 at 7:59 pm

This is awesome! I can’t wait. You are doing such a great job. I love to watch the series, and a movie would just be awesome!
Of course, make more episodes as well. They’re never boring to watch. And by the way, it doesn’t matter how many times you say”a shitload of fuck”, because hearing you aay it is awesome :P

I am very excited to hear that you will still be continuing to make simple reviews. I have enjoyed all of your AVGN videos, old and new, complex hijinks with superimposure and costumes or just talking/yelling and game footage… I like it all, and I am glad to hear you are willing to keep going.

Some of your best reviews have actually been among the simple ones, too. Two of my favorites are the “Dragon’s Lair” review and the very first Bible Games review.

That said I am also excited to see what becomes of the movie, and it makes good sense that it be your main project. I’m sure it will be great.

I think you’ve actually got a pretty good plan, here: primarily work on the movie, and make some easier side videos to tide everyone over and keep interest up. I enjoy your other videos, as well, like the “Race for your life, Charlie Brown” review, or the Megaman 2 Worlds of Power novel reading- so I’m sure you can make enjoyable videos with just footage of shitty games and your own commentary. I look forward to it! ^_^

  • June 3, 2011 at 10:59 pm

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, James. To be honest, given the reality of the time consuming process of making a movie, I was almost expecting no new episodes until you got the ball rolling on the movie filming. In fact, that’s where it seemed this update video was headed. But it was damn gratifying to hear you’ll try to balance both eps and the movie for your fanbase.

I welcome the basic reviews, as well. Whereas the artistic integrity you put into episodes with “more going on” is great, I personally feel the dialogue alone in the reviews has always been the selling point. Just the witty comparisons or complaints or whatever.

    Be easy.

What a good news James! I’m glad to hear about your movie, so I let you know that too many people in others countries love your work of AVGN (like me, yes thats the reason of the bad english) so I’m agree to the other about than you’ll take priority to work over the movie and let the AVGN episodes in stand by. and is obviously that you need some time free.

    my regards from México

  • June 4, 2011 at 4:13 am

Okay, so I see there are others that got the “wink-wink-nug-nuge-say-no-more,” or at least that’s what I think James was doing here, I could be wrong. I thought it would be just another episode, like part 2 or something, but I think this does deserve something as big as a movie! Wish I was an actor or had any kind of talent….HEY!! if you need someone to wash your dishes for you after you and the other professionals eat during breaks I’d be happy to help there! ^_^

James, we have been your fans for years and we know how much work you put into the nerd episodes. That being said we completely understand what sacrifices you have to make in order to bring us your movie. If it means putting the episodes on hold then maybe it will be worth while. We all support what you think is best for you and what you choose to do with the nerd series.

Good luck with the movie and I can’t wait until its released.

Does any body agree with me or understand what I am trying to say?

    James!

I liked the 2006 episodes better than the new ones! Your straightforward gameplay and binge drinking with a simple rant is what your core fanbase is all about! I never cared for the huge storylines and special effects. Just play the game, drink, and rant! That’s what we love. If the movie itself is two hours of that I would be good with it. Thanks for listening.

are you going to make monster madness 2011?

James, I love the AVGN series, just wanted to say THANK YOU for continuing it even though your busy man!!!

  • fuzzie

    June 4, 2011 at 3:15 pm

I’m happy to see that you’re working on your feature movie.

I love AVGN, but the promise of an AVGN movie is pretty cool. Keep doing what you’re doing man. I found you with AVGN but follow all your projects. Great site!

  • June 4, 2011 at 3:57 pm

    James!
I know you don’t directly respond but read comments, so read this!
    Two things really quick!

First, I sent you a email about movie distribution, etc and haven’t received anything back. You’ll recognize my name from the email.

Second, I think it’s a great idea to juggle both at the same time and the 2006 reviews were great, as long as it’s the nerds personal take on a game, it’ll still work…that and I think it’s important to keep doing the episodes on the side so people don’t “forget” about AVGN or burn out on interest over time and when the movie finally drops (providing on how it’s advetised) you could suffer a massive risk of “shit, 1-2 years have passed and only the core people still remember the movie!”
It’s important to keep any kind of momentum continuing, I really think you should out reach to people near by that want to contribute for free to help, like get different people to come down and help shoot, edit, write, etc the newer nerd episodes.
I know I would be more than glad to help seeing I have 7 years of camera, editing experience for a local station and 2 degrees.
I would be more than happy to help out in the future.
I’ll shoot you another email incase you read this entitled “Crew Help”.
Till then sir, see you on the Internet. Haha.
    -Eric

Thanks for the update James. I like the earlier episodes a lot so a more raw review will be good to see again. I also believe that if you stop making the episodes for a year or two years, people will have fallen out of touch with your show by then and the movie will be seen less. Keep up the hard work! I know it has to be grueling to do all this stuff.

  • Fartmann

    June 4, 2011 at 11:19 pm

Yeah, this is the way to go. Remember that you showed all those games that you haven’t done? I think the only way to do them is this way. Even if you brought out Mike to do a few with you and it was more casual, not so uniform, i think everyone would enjoy that.

In all honestly, I actually like the older simpler style of nerd better. Just show some clips of some old video games we all used to play and talk shit about them. Thats what I like. Even the good ones used to be frustrating piles of shitcock. Fuck up some good games like metroid.

  • Squall85

    June 5, 2011 at 6:54 am

I curious what’s the movie gonna be like. I know it’s not gonna be a looong AVGN game review. Maybe somekind of story like the wizard had with some games in it and the Nerd character.

I don’t mind if the episodes go back to the original style (game makers also do that nowadays, lol). I love to hear your thoughts on stuff so I don’t mind if they are just gameplay footages with a commentary. You have great thoughts on stuff. Keep it up! And good luck digging into the email swarm you are going to get :)

  • LJW_Red_Dragons

    June 5, 2011 at 10:23 am

I would argue that some of the older episodes were better. When it was more about content, rather than “Hey what can we do for this episode.”

But good luck, I’ll be looking foward to it.

  • June 5, 2011 at 12:27 pm

    This is great news :)

im wondering if he filmed this with the ET poster and toy in the background because the movie will include the ET game review that he looked at with so much hatred.

This is great news that the episodes will continue, thank you James!

However, I think most of us understand that the movie needs to take priority and I for one am realy excited about it!

Whatever you do though, don’t push yourself too hard! We know that you’re working on the movie and if the episodes are too much as well then better you take a break from them in anticipation of the film!

Take it easy mate, thanks for all your videos. Love them all!

We’re with you on this one James!

  • June 7, 2011 at 2:21 pm

Great to hear, the older AVGN stuff is my favorite. Your episodes with production value are still great, of course, the 2006 – 2007 stuff is just more in line with my tastes. I hope you get a lucky break on the movie, I’ve seen more than my fair share of movies go to development hell (like Robert Benfer’s Villain) and I REALLY hope you find a studio willing to back you after the colossal failures that have been coming out of Youtube and into Hollywood and right back out of Hollywood (kind of like The Human Centipede). Of course, I fully expect the movie to be good for us nerd fans and I’m sure you know what you’re doing better than most internet celebrities (if I remember correctly, you have a master’s degree in filming).

  • June 7, 2011 at 2:50 pm

And then AVGN confirmed that both the episodes and the movie were going to be produced, and there was much rejoycing..

I want to help you SO MUCH but I can’t think of anything I could tell you that would be useful and I can’t just fly out there for an acting role (especially because I’m not that great an actor anyway, I’m more of a writer or director).
Being in high school may be as great as it is but there’s a lot passing me by because of it.
oh well, hopefully I can work with you some day on something.

I for one am glad you’re going back to the original format. Your early episodes hold a special place in my heart not just because of their nostalgic value, but also because they helped me through some pretty tough times. My mother died in 2006, the same year I discovered the Angry Video Game Nerd. The Rocky and Bible Games episodes are my favorites, because they helped me cope during the first holiday season I had to spend without my dear mother.
It’s almost five years overdue, but I just wanted to say: Thank you, James.

  • Zycloe

    June 8, 2011 at 4:58 pm

Nothing wrong with doing some basic stuff. The videos of Milan’s Secret Castle and Little Red Hood are great examples of detailed critiques of the games in true AVGN fashion. Personally, my only request is that you don’t do something basic with teh REALLY bad stuff. For instance, I have been waiting for five years for a review of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Video Game, one of the worst games in history. It definitely deserves a big treatment and the material, both the game and the movie backdrop, is ripe with goodies to utilize. I would certainly request you hold off on a game like this until after you have finished the AVGN Movie. If I have to wait another five years, so be it. I will keep watchign and waiting. :)

I registered just to let you know James that you do what is important. The episodes *are* nice, but this movie, it’s got so much more potential. This will be a great way to gain extra publicity and reach a wider audience. It’s a way to earn some revenue for your other projects. More importantly, it’s another way for US to show YOU a token of OUR appreciation by attending and supporting your film.

Your pragmatism is nice, and it’s really means a lot to us that you willingly continue both the movie and the episodes despite the massive drain they will take on you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We love you man, and we will support you!

just do what you feel you gotta do James…don’t feel pressured to make more AVGN episodes; stick to the movie which is a probably a more challenging project for you. 101 episodes of AVGN are enough; or is it gonna last forever? good luck and keep up the good work!

  • Sleepy

    June 9, 2011 at 1:14 pm

I was certain you’d stop making the episodes ever since you announced the movie in the last one. Hearing you say you’d continue just as I expected the official proclamation of them being finished was like a sparkling ray of sunshine, and a most unexpected pleasant surprise.

Best of luck with the movie!

Just registered to say that I support you all the way! Hell I would even donate some money to the project to help out (If needed), and you do what you feel thats the best for the movie and the series in general. I’ve been following you’re series (Everything besides overanalyzers) since 2006, and I have enjoyed every single episode!

I also have some friends that loves you’re series as much as I do !!
So best of luck from Norway :D

I registered too just to say, that it makes sense… I mean you’ve got a good fanbase going and they need these eps to keep them with you as the film can take a very long time.

I’m glad you’re getting back to basics. Tbh just stick yourself infront of the game and give it a go when filming for 30 mins and stay in character. I think that’s what everyone wants :) Not gfx or fancy music, just a bit of fun :)

    Best of luck with both!!

James I think I have watched all the AVGN videos on this site as well as most of the other ones on the site. It would be so worth the wait for more, so take your time. Good luck getting that movie started, I know it’s gonna be a great one!

    June 13, 2011 at 3:39 pm

What ever happened to the days when James would just make little avgn movies with a crappy camera and basically no script at all? I miss those days when we’d get an episode every few weeks. I understand that you’re a busy man with work and all that but all I’m saying is you don’t need to work yourself over for us like it seems you’re doing.

  • cowabunga7

    June 14, 2011 at 3:30 pm

James, you’ve already given us so much. We have a lifetime’s worth of hilarious entertainment that appeals to people of all ages and cultures. We not only get that nostalgic feeling about playing bad games as kids but the feeling that we weren’t alone in how FUCKING PISSED OFF we’d get at how awful they were. Even the younger gamers who never experienced them can find a lot of humor in both the games and your reactions to them.

So if you want to take a break, that’s fine with us. As always we’d love to see more; hell, we’d keep watching till the end of time, but if you want to break off and pursue something else, well hell that’s fine too.

    Best of luck to you!

  • MrZerox123

    June 14, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Hey James i think its really cool that your trying to furfill your dream of making your movie finaly. I dont see how a movie company wouldnt try to help considering it can triple their start up money. All these fan on your website as well as youtube channels plus the people just idolizing you make it a sure idea to make a avgn movie. please make it like the athf movie. some how i see that style of comedy and movie is perfect for your character.

Also i think its not a bad thing that your reviews will be basic because i thought your 100th episode special was garbage comapared to most of your other ones. I liked the jurrasic park and speiberg games one but like reacently your episodes have gotten to far off the actual games and more about comedy and cut scenes. They werent bad but they felt generic. So i think going basic may be a great idea. ever wonder why you dont get as many views anymore compared to the old days (based on post dates) is because people expect your videos not to be as good anymore. Your basic review were perfect. the way you keep your episodes fresh is by not caring what your fans want. Also by being more like the old days. check out your most watched videos and remind yourself why they were so great.

last words of advice i think your cut scenes were best done as they were in (halloween, batman, frankenstein, dracula, nightmare on elm street)
That is where you shined the most with your acting for me. i got great reviews and entertained by your comedy.

^this all comming from a fan since 2006 who has watched every episode close to a hundred times each includding the newer ones. I think your videos are brilliant and shows how bad games can be more than paper weights.

    Cheers (Youtube)—-Mrzerox123 *game reviews*

I also know that making even small scenes take awhile to make. So no pressure James take your time making the vid. I believe most of your fans don’t mind waiting.

  • June 15, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Yo James, ur the man. Do your thing. Hopefully you’ll be able to crank out about a video a month.

Thanks for all the good laughs, you’re a funny dude.

I can appreciate the desire to do a feature length movie…and i hope all the time invested pays off. What got us all hooked were the fun episodes. The longer it takes from promise to delivery, the more you have to deliver. Just don’t want it to be 2 years till the AVGN movie..then I have forgotten the magic and just come to watch it once and ultimately move on. I would rather pay a subscription to your shorts and keep the laughs coming regularly. I anticipate it being a challenge making the fans wait till a possibly 2 year down the road release..and still have it pay off like regular episodes do. Just throwing ideas out there. But you aren’t ever gonna read this anyway, so I talk to myself. Per chance you do..thanks for reading.

Goddamit, I know I’m fucking late, but late or not, I had to tell you how happy I am for this. I totally understood that you stopped making the episodes for the movie, although I was said of course to see them stop, but hearing that you will do some smaller ones nevertheless really made my day, they’re awesome, you’re awesome, thanks man!!

Well, I watch all the old Episodes and I wonder if you Review those games we all could the in your Intro?
In fact you’re planing to return to the 2006 style it would be awsome to see those games.

Great to hear that new episodes are coming while the movie is being made, James. I really like the old format, so seeing new episodes in a “vintage Nerd”-style is a welcome addition in my book. Also good to hear that the movie is getting underway. Take your time with it and make it just the way you want it to be, because that’s when the episodes turn out for the best, which I’m sure goes for the movie as well. I do have one comment about the movie, though: If a few characters from TGWTG won’t have cameos, at least have the Nostalgia Critic do a cameo. If not, I will be disappointed. You two work so extremely well together that it would be a shame not to have him at least appear in the movie. Other than that, I’m really looking forward to the new episodes and reading news about the movie’s progress.

Its kind of ironic how the first avgn videos were short films, which turned into a show, which turned into a feature film. Its like avgn was your child, and it grew up, lol.

Hey James I have a question: After the AVGN movie is released, will we see any more of the Nerd, or will you be moving on to new things? Also, thanks for continuing to make Nerd videos even though you’re busy with the movie. We as the fans really appreciate it. Keep up the great work, and good luck with your everything. :)

-James (yes, my name is James too :P)

I say don’t worry about the Nerd for now. Follow your dream and make that movie.

James, please don’t get involved with a big studio even if they’re interested. They’ll make you practically rewrite the whole script to fit the Hollywood standard formula for “success”.

Also, please dump blip.tv as your media server for your site, if possible. Not going into too much detail, but it has given me more problems than almost any other media player.

As for new episodes, I’d rather have a decent episode every 2, 3, or even 6 months than a “shitty” one every month.

I just wanted to say (as many fans have before), I really enjoy AVGN! A movie would be awesome. Your really working hard for your fans and we all appreciate it, that’s for sure! Since watching most nerd episodes multipletimes, I’ve looked at your other work as well. I can’t believe you do so much:0 So the fact your bringing us both nerd episodes AND a movie is insane! Keep up the awesome work with all your projects. Just wanted to throw some more positive feedback your way.

James you are freakin awesome! Thanks for all the entertainment. If you need someone to move stuff around and put things up for your sets then I will do it, dont mind doing grunt work. It would be awesome to be there when history is made, wont even have to pay me as long as you have stuff to drink.

I remember talking to you on MySpace years ago James, and you actually wrote me back because you said my message was sincere (about me being a fellow writer and aspiring filmmaker). I really hope this AVGN movie turns out big for you, lord knows the web series got way bigger than you ever thought it would, which is awesome. But honestly, as much as I’d love to keep seeing AVGN videos, in all honesty I’d love to see you just go full bore with making actual films. It’s what you went to school for, it’s your dream, and I personally think you’d make some bad ass movies. AVGN will only be the first (first commercially released that is).

I would love to see AVGN for years to come, but like you said, you honestly can’t do both. Certainly not forever. Good luck to you man, and I only wish I could be there to help you make this thing. Peace!

I started watching the AVGN videos on youtube not long ago, I can’t remember which one was the first, because I’ve sincerely watched them all so many times, it makes it hard for me to think back. Anyway, I just wanted to say this: what you do is hugely important on several levels; you keep us connected with our childhood stuff, which is good, it reminds us who we are, in a way. The videos are funny, that’s no less important, making a lot of people laugh. And last, you know, your show is something I will remember when I’m old age, it’s one of those things I’ll rescue, and I’m sure more people thinks the same way, I mean, a lot of us care about the show, it is important to many of us. Good luck, I mean good fucking luck James. Go for it! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina!

Some may find it strange, but I watch the Nerd for nostalgia, and I’m only 15. I was around when the N64 came out, and that was what I grew up with. My dad also had a Jaguar, which is his favorite. I also had a 2600, as well as an NES. I’ve been retro gaming since I was 4, playing Boxing on the Atari.

I can appreciate James’ videos, and I enjoy them a lot. The amazing attention to quality, immense acting talent, ability to laugh at himself, skillful dissection of games, and a passion for what he’s doing have cemented him as an incredible filmmaker, who ranks as one of the best. I hope his videos will never be forgotten and will continue to remind people that the past of gaming should not be lost but should be remembered. Long live the Nerd.

    Your fan, Blake.

    Hey James,

I discovered your Nerd episodes in youtube a few months ago. And I must say that, every episode of your nerd series leaves a smile in my face. They are fun and enjoyable.

Well, I must admit I’m not what I call a “true” gamer. I’m a young one and the first videoconsole I played was a SNES. Yeah, a 16 bit console, when I had about 3 years old. Back then I didn’t even know what was I supposed to do, rather than smash the pad’s buttons, but, whatever. Then, a few years later, when I was about 5, I had my very own videoconsole. And I can always say, my first videoconsole was an 8-bit videoconsole, because I got a Game Boy.

I never had the chance to experience the gameplay that an Atari 2600 or a NES could give to you, but even if so, your videos bring me back memories from my childhood, when I used to play 8-bit games on my Game Boy, or 16-bit in my parent’s SNES, and watching VHS of videogame reviews before going to bed. That means a lot for any gamer.

I also had many other videoconsoles like a Saturn, a Nintendo 64, all playstations but… that’s another story.

I’m glad you’re still with your nerd episodes, and I hope you’re doing well with the movie. I’d like to help, but I can’t do anything. I also have a friend who is into video editing, but he can’t help either for many reasons. So, all I can do is wish you the best with your project. We’ll be here waiting for 6 or 10 or 100 years if necessary. Keep the good work up!

    Regards,

    Aaron

    Hey James,

just wanted to let you know, that I really enjoy your show and have several fun memories attached to it (watching it together with friends etc.).

Plus, you’re really doing a favor to all those, who had to suffer from the limitations of the early Gaming- Days. Especially love the Ninja Gaiden episode, couldn’t get that catchy Act 4-2 music out of my head for days! I appreciate not needing facebook to comment on your site, ’cause that’s BULLSHIT! Aahhhh… livefyre???…. …. …. …. ok, that was easy

It’s great, that you’re bringing out new stuff at the moment and I check cinemassacre every day.Happy Holidays and all the best Christmas wishes from Germany!

I know i do ! t i know you want to do other stuff too and that’s okay ,and i support that too . So have a blast and be safe .

I actually still remember the first video of James’s that I ever watched wasn’t a Nerd episode, but the Top 10 Jackie Chan fight scenes and then from there I found his other top tens and movie reviews and then the Nerd and from there Nostalgia Critic, Angry Joe, Spoony and all of the rest. However Cinemassacre is still my favourite.  Big hand for James Rolfe everyone!
