OverAnalyzers – New Episodes

James / May 26th, 2011

Tomorrow, episode #3 of OverAnalyzers is going up. We originally shot 8 episodes in one day. I’ll be posting the rest of them more frequently. Here’s the episodes we posted so far.

OverAnalyzers #1 – Batman & Robin

OverAnalyzers #2 – Easter Bunny

The show is extra content on the site and does not take much time and effort away from me. The whole production and editing is handled by Cinevore Studios. The only thing I do is prepare the topics, and show up for a few hours of filming. There is no script, other than a little bit of research about the topics we’re discussing. This is all improv. It’s shot with 3 cameras (two handheld and one on tripod) so that we manage to record every spontaneous thing that happens. All the reactions that happen are purely natural.

We already shot a second batch of episodes and judging from the negative comments about one characters’ accent, we lost that. So starting with episode #9, the accent will be gone.

Glad we will have some more episodes, this show is really good!

The accent was a bit too much, but nothing that ruined the show overall

I give them serious props for dropping the accent. Most entertainers couldn’t give 2 fucks what their fans think.

Hm…well I have to say though I wasn’t a big fan of this show, I am impressed that you guys listen to your fans and that’s really cool. I’d be glad to watch some more and see how it goes :)

    Sweet! I love Overanalyzers!

  • May 26, 2011 at 7:44 pm

Yeah, the accent was cool. I have no idea why that was singled out for negativity. She obviously has more talent than anybody who complained about her accent.

hey James, I dont know if you got inspiration from these videos (I’ll put below) but, if you didn’t, I think you should totally watch them! They are using almost the same idea.

The videos I talk about are AfterHours, from Cracked: http://www.cracked.com/members/AfterHours/

    Keep going :-)

  • May 26, 2011 at 8:04 pm

    James,

It’s really cool of you and your “crew” to take into consideration the negative criticisms of your fans. You don’t have to address everything but it’s nice to see you listening to what your viewers are saying they like / don’t like.

I just hope that listening too much to people doesn’t hinder your style, but i’m sure you know what you’re doing. :)

I didn’t like the accent myself, but I enjoyed the OA for the most part.. the other guys just needed more character I think. Should still be fun to see you and Mike go at it depending on what the topics are in the next few eps.

  • EliteDeath

    May 26, 2011 at 8:16 pm

The show’s been getting a lot of negative comments, more than her accent. Its a shame you and your friends have been getting so much shit lately :(

  • windowlicker808

    May 26, 2011 at 8:30 pm

aw, that’s too bad. i really liked the accent. try not to take it personally “suzy”, some people just don’t understand that particular brand of humor. idiots mostly.

  • itscmillertime

    May 26, 2011 at 8:32 pm

So you’re losing your New Jersey accent? ;-)

  • windowlicker808

    May 26, 2011 at 8:39 pm

oh yeah. and if i’m not mistaken, when “suzie” was younger she didn’t speak english at all. so that “bullshit” accent probably isn’t bullshit at all.

  • PuppyBlade

    May 26, 2011 at 8:47 pm

I didn’t think I’d like it from hearing the concept, but I actually find it pretty funny. The accent didn’t do much for me one way or the other. Either way, I’m looking forward to the new episodes!

  • May 26, 2011 at 8:53 pm

Excited to see more man. Good to see you and the others take criticism as well as you do, even when it comes as harshly as it does sometimes.

  • buckfutter

    May 26, 2011 at 9:47 pm

good to hear you werent ignoring the complaints about the accent.
you just had them all filmed so there was no changing it. gotcha

  • Xen11

    May 26, 2011 at 9:56 pm

You’re changing something because of complaints. THAT’S BULLSHIT!!

    I liked the accent.

Most people are idiots. Most people can’t see beauty in anything. They also fail at comprehending anything.

  • tjsynkral2

    May 26, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Will this change be explained in the show or will it just change and nobody notices or says anything?

I’m glad to see that there are more episodes on the way. I think it’s an excellent show.

  • korahn

    May 26, 2011 at 10:37 pm

The show is very reminiscent of After Hours on cracked. OverAnalyzers, however, tends to add some “science” to the discussions. Still, love ‘em both.

  • May 26, 2011 at 10:46 pm

I liked the first two episodes and think the premise is great. I admit though that I was one of the people that said Stephanies “accent” seemed out of place, and forced. Just like everyone else was being themselves and one person was playing a “character”

It will all seem more natural without it in my opinion.

  • Parry Hotter

    May 26, 2011 at 11:07 pm

To replace the accent put an Arnold Schwartzeneggar impersonator in there and make him excitable over nothing… ya… that’s the stuff…

One thing I’ve felt is that there are too many people on that show. Or just too many new faces with no personality. Jame’s personality and Mike’s personality I’m familiar with, but why should I care about the other 3? I hope later episodes brings out more character from the other 3 personalities… even if it’s not their real personalities. Make me want to hear their point of view! It’s not just about what is said but who says it and how. Ad libbing means to go over the top baby!! Over-do everything!! It’s much more comfortable pretending to be someone else and it feels like several over-analyzers sitting behind the table are just being themselves so they hold back.

Take a leaf from the RiffTrax team, although their comments aren’t all ad libbed, each person has a distinct voice that is familiar to me making their comments that much more funny. I hope the analyzers do the same.

  • May 26, 2011 at 11:49 pm

Wait, the actress didn’t have that accent naturally? It was faked?

Oh yes, I’m in full support of it being gone. It takes away from the character.

  • May 27, 2011 at 12:05 am

I like her fake accent. Is cute. It make me want to take her hunting for the moose and the squirrel with me. Afterward, we come back to my place and watch the DIRECTV with my mini pet giraffe.

  • Whoblehwah

    May 27, 2011 at 12:17 am

I mean no offense when I say this, but OverAnalyzers REALLY reminds mf of Cracked.com’s After Hours videos. Still though, funny stuff. Looking forward to watching the next 6 episodes.

  • Nick Williams

    May 27, 2011 at 12:32 am

The accent didn’t bother me to be honest but every time I hered it I was trying to work out if it was being faked or not… can’t say as though it bothers me to here its been dropped, might even be a good thing.

  • sanguintine

    May 27, 2011 at 1:01 am

thank god. i was genuinely a little worried that OverAnalyzers would be dropped. i love it. and if i said things like, “kudos for keeping it going”, i would be saying them right now.

  • Sirius

    May 27, 2011 at 4:21 am

I love people. People are dumb.

First, everyone hated her accent. Now that they are telling us they got rid of it, you have a bunch of people saying “Oh noes! I liked it!”

To be honest, I’m not fond of this show at all anyways. They shot 8 episodes in one day? That explains a lot of things.

And before anyone starts insulting me like a douchebag, tell me, who’s your favorite actor? Yeah? I see. Does that mean every single movie he’s been in is good?

I didn’t think so. I like James, Mike (though not his nickname, MM is a sorry excuse for the kids here to be immature.) and cinemassacre as a whole, but this is one show I dislike.

“If you don’t like it don’t watch it!!!!”
Hmmm, but this is how things advance, change, evolve. By voicing opinions. You keep the good in, you kick the bad out.

That being said, anyone who insults James and company is not any better.

Just remember this: Kissing James’ ass is not helping him. He doesn’t care anyways. And insulting him is just pathetic.

But openly voicing your opinion respectfully, positive or negative? That’s what you SHOULD do.

Well James you can’t lose them all a nd you can’t win them all…in other words, dump the show and stick with what you got and maybe come up with another idea because this is foul and the least entertaining series on your site….

  • Shcha

    May 27, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I think OverAnalyzers is awesome, and the accent didn’t bother me, but it won’t bother me either if it is taken away

  • May 27, 2011 at 1:12 pm

+10 chars to Sirius. I agree with everything you wrote.

Well, James admits to taking the note about Suzie’s character and changing it for ep9, which is good. My question is why continue airing episodes that you know a majority of your viewers are going to hate? There’s no upside in that. I say dump em, make episode 9 your episode 4 and move on from there.

  • TomM

    May 27, 2011 at 1:48 pm

What ever James decides to do is fine by me. I just don’t see why everyone on here thinks that Overanalizers is so bad. I think it’s cool, and like he said it doesn’t take a lot of time to film. Why not have it if it doesn’t take much time? What ever James decides to to is what he decides to do, it’s not such a big deal.

  • Villarreal

    May 27, 2011 at 3:28 pm

It would be better if the accent randomly switched to another character lol

  • 1982_dude

    May 27, 2011 at 3:53 pm

    Meh… more or less…

  • May 27, 2011 at 4:06 pm

Complaining about this series is kinda like complaining about a Mario Sports title. While it might be something of a “Love it or Hate it”, it’s not like it was decided this would be made INSTEAD of something else, and far too many people seem to think that time spent on it is time taken away from a project they’d rather see completed.

As for my opinion of this series, I think it’s pretty funny, and while some of the actors don’t seem to be as involved in it, I believe it’s largely because this show is still new and thus still needs time to establish a firmer group dynamic. Also, I rather like the accent. Just my thoughts.

  • May 27, 2011 at 4:25 pm

I didn’t like it at first but the dynamic is starting to kick in. Now I don’t care for the accent either and maybe that’s because I saw her without the accent first but it’s growing on me. Keep it up James and crew I’m loving the odd ball topics and it’s a nice relaxing edition to your lineup.

  • May 27, 2011 at 5:36 pm

what a hell, leave the russian accent, she’s awesome in that)

  • Tempest

    May 28, 2011 at 12:14 am

I’m glad to see the show is still going. I really like it! The Romanian accent didn’t bother me too much, but it’s good to see you’re willing to please the fans.

  • blazbluesonic

    May 28, 2011 at 3:39 am

eh? well Im in lala land. I had no idea about this show on cinemassacre.

  • Gessel

    May 28, 2011 at 6:14 am

Honestly, despite being a little cheesy (Not saying AVGN isn’t cheesy) I love the series. It’s interesting seeing how much Mike himself has developed since his first appearances on the website and I’ve grown to really like him and I’m happy he’s being included in so many different videos.

You should add a section on the website for this, because for a while I was lost trying to find the previous episodes after my RSS feed notified me about the third episode. I like how the show is given a professional look with silly overtones, similar to an episode of The Office.

Please continue the series, I love it.

  • Unbreakable

    May 28, 2011 at 12:54 pm

Yeah. There are two things that need to be changed.

    1) James needs to avoid smiling while giving his opinions. It’s much like when Jimmy Fallon was on SNL and broke character halfway through every time. What makes this funny is how they come up with the most batshit insane theories while being fairly serious.

    2) Don’t reference AVGN stuff. Keep it entirely original. It breaks immersion.

It’s clear that the people who don’t find this funny also don’t care for British Humor as this is precisely that. Reality check: It’s called dry wit. It’s what won The Office around 10 golden globes in 2007. Many people including me find it funny. If you don’t like it, fine. Not everyone does. However stop attempting to claim for a fact that it’s not funny as that’s simply not true.

Other than those two suggestions, don’t change a thing.

  • fcabanski

    May 28, 2011 at 5:41 pm

    OA needs an antagonist.

  • Fred Fuchs

    May 29, 2011 at 3:15 am

  • Excite Racer

    May 29, 2011 at 7:39 pm

Hmm… Well James, whether you read these comments in their entirety or not, Opinions will fall in a fence post no matter what you do. I just finished watching #3 without seeing the first two. I posted a comment there. OA, to me, is a fun side project that can be done fast and cost little time. Just like the old days when you get a camera and some friends together then just come up with random ideas to put together and make a little short film of random funny shit…..I miss those days.

  • May 30, 2011 at 9:41 pm

James… If it wasn’t for Mike, this would be the biggest piece of shit you’ve ever done. Mike is the only one who sounds authentic. It comes across as purely scripted and a bad scripting at that, like “oh let’s cast a white woman to have a really bad accent”. Even you sound like you’re trying to hard.

Please this show would be a billion times better if it were improvised, wasn’t scripted, and you trimmed the fat. Those two guys are alright… not funny, but no stupid idiots. Please kill that fat chick though. In every video she’s in she talks like she’s the shit. The pizza video really brought it to home that she’s one of those types of people who loves being the center of attention. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was banking on your success. You might be old friends and sorry if I’m offending you, but I’m not the only one complaining. I love the idea, but the execution can be much better.

  • greedo

    May 31, 2011 at 9:01 pm

    Hey James.

I’ve refrained from commenting on this in the past, but now I feel it’s time that I put my two cents in. First of all, when I heard of this show, I thought it would be more like a roundtable panel discussion of the latest entertainment trends. What I saw instead, was quite different. Instead we got a comedy sketch program. I thought, “okay, I’ll give it a chance”. So I watched the next episode and it improved a bit. I felt that while the show was a bit flat, it had potential. And then the third. Now, all of these episodes were… well- okay- but they lacked a little something, you know?

So here’s the deal. Like I said, it has a lot of potential, but it seems… off somehow. I don’t think the format works when you guys are posing as characters. I would much rather prefer you guys try to be yourselves. You know how you and Mike like to goof off in your basement? Well, that’s the kind of thing that you should do. It would be better if we knew what you guys really felt and thought, not some cardboard cutouts. (Though your friend Stephanie is cool. She gets me fired up on all cylinders, if you know what I mean. And that Hungarian accent? Rarwwr)! :)

As for your two other friends, I hate to say it, James, but they’re a couple of stiffs. They bring no passion, no energy, and nothing of interest. They’re like background noise, you barely notice them. You Mike, and Stephanie, are the only ones that do anything of interest. If they’re going to be of any use, they need to take a more active part in the discussions. Maybe you could even have them start it off. Anyway, I just thought I’d share that with you.

look, the OA show is great. i for one, love it. it reminds me of me and my friends sitting around talking about random shit, and weeding out all different possibilities and outcomes of different situations, just like OA! If i had any complaint, it would be that the show is too short! i like it that much!! keep up the good work

  • billpardy

    June 2, 2011 at 11:57 am

i like OA, but i do have to agree that the accent was a bit much. i like the idea of just a bunch of people having a conversation on camera that many of us have with our friends. keep it all improv and natural :)

  • June 3, 2011 at 2:22 pm

This is awful and truly the minority likes it because the vast majority of AVGN fans and fans of James in general know that you can do better. Mike is awesome as always, as is James but i CANNOT F***ING STAND that woman! Shes awful! its like she took her plus sized panties down and made diarrhea allover these OA vids. The concept could work and i understand what you are trying to do and i know that since your content is free i really shouldn’t complain but jesus this blows! If i was a new fan or someone who just discovered your site i’d completely get the wrong impression of your work as a whole based upon these lousy videos. This criticism comes from a friendly place though since i love all your work outside of this.

  • stauken

    June 4, 2011 at 5:58 am

As someone who apparently doesn’t have some kind of bias against women because of their size, which seemingly puts me in the minority, I’d like to voice displeasure with a couple of aspects of OA too.

First, I’d like to say I respect that you do whatever you do in your spare time, nothings ever going to be perfect and this was basically a large experiment with no room to actually change inbetween the first airings because it was filmed at once.

Second, I do have to concur that the accent that Stephanie is putting forth sounds so obviously faked and ..to be quite honest, she seems ..just disinterested in the whole thing. Still, people should really leave her alone, she’s just trying to do what was asked of her here. She seems to be.. what amounts to outright fabricating a personality and doing a poor job of it. It’d probably be a much better outing for her and she’d be catching a lot less flack if she was just ..’being herself’.

Third, I have to agree with many here in that you and Mike are, as usual, the ones who carry anything you are in. This really is not meant to be a knock on the rest of the cast, just that we’re accustom to you, we know what to expect, and you usually deliver it with a high level of entertainment value.

Still, I think I’d like to see OA make it into future seasons but you need to ditch some of the obviously faked aspects ..they are nowhere near as entertaining here.

  • June 7, 2011 at 4:41 pm

One thing Overanalickers does well is create controversy. James has never put out anything as subjective as this and i think both sides of the argument on whether it should stay or go are approaching it wrong. Those who stand behind it cant see that its shit because they are afraid to bum james out or feel obligated to enjoy it because of how much they enjoy his other videos. Those who see its terrible and know james can do better are only commenting because they too respect and admire james’s work but think this will sully his overall image.

Its extremely naive to call the ones criticizing this “Haters” for we all are coming from the same place; like this show or not the reason why we are even watching it and commenting in the first place is because we are all fans of James and we all enjoy the bounty of free content hes given us over the years.

Through James i’ve learned so many things about various films and games and id hate to see this become the thing that divides fans. People are just not bright enough to understand that we’re all on the same side in this for we all are here because of our mutual like of James’s work and respect for the man himself.

On that note, this show is shit and you should nix it fast before it starts stinking up the place.

I personally love this new stuff, OverAnalyzers has to be taken for what it is, kinda like Hellboy and it’s sequel. You can’t take them seriously and you can’t really compare them to anything without bringing out negavtive points, so you have to take them as they are and enjoy, and OverAnalyzers is just that. Maybe it is just me being in my late 20s early 30s, but I enjoy watching a buncha friends just sitting around, assing about and chatting nonsense, because that’s what you do when you’re sitting around with your friends. Either that or do drag racing or some sort of activity where you can enjoy the little things in life.

I can see that those used to AVGN would hate this because you’re more used to the formula of James, with Mike occasionally peeking in, but asoociating James and Mike only to AVGN to limiting the talent of those two. This new episodic rambling of 5 guys about things we wouldn’t think about is awesome.

My thoughts on the new guys? That russian chick is one of my favourites, she sounds like a titanium fist in an iron glove, with that head-on red lipstick, and yet James is still the boss. That bearded guy needs to say more, he is like caught in a maelstrom of dialogue and only manages to squeeze in a sentence here and there,.You could leave him out and the show would still go on. Then the other guy, he comes up with some of the strangest suggestions that can put a smile on my face. In my mind. he can verbally spar with Mike when it comes to coming up with bullshit really easily, so I’m looknig forward to what he does next.

Keep up the good work guys, look forward to the next episodes!

I know a lot of people who enjoy visiting cinemassacre and avgn, myself included. I hate to say it, but the biggest complaint among everyone I know who visits the site is OA, and a lack of new avgn episodes. OA appears as more of an attempt to give some friends work, when in reality James and Mike are really the only good part about it. Perhaps with time the rest of the group will become more comfortable in that element but for now, things just look awkward (and not funny awkward.) I understand avgn requires a lot more time, while OA is quicker and easier to set up. I also understand that OA may appear to be a good way to at least give your fans something while the movie is being made. I think a lot of people would rather have a scaled down avgn, without the fancy special effects, just a bare bones review with The Nerd telling it like it is than the best episode of OA. Most of us dont comment, we just keep our fingers crossed a new avgn will come out soon. I see a few people comment on how much they love it, but I truly think thats a small percentage of your fan base. The rest log on, check avgn, see there isn’t anything new, and either log off or watch reruns, reliving the glory days when taking a dump on a bad game was in. Love your site, and for the record, “you know what’s bullshit” is pretty funny at times, as well as some of the board games. But avgn is the keystone of cinemassacre, I don’t mind side projects, but I sure hope a new one comes out soon. I can’t complain too much, this is all free (except my two cinemassacre ipod apps), but I can wish right?

I LOVE this show, by the way. Many people that I know would love to consistently see new episodes. But I didn’t mind the accent and I don’t see why it bothers people… The only person I can see that might get irritated after a while is the actor with the accent. But anyway, keep it up guys because it’s good work and genuinely funny.
