You did good James. I enjoy these. The editing was quick and served it’s purpose. It turns the world around on its ass for a kicking and helps when people don’t have a soapbox.
The amount of money companies spend in Disc Packaging is ridiculous when we just want the disc half the time. They could use that money to employ people and create better movies and so forth.
If we spend the extra money on a special edition pack then FINE…give us the bullshit packaging, but at least give us the option of just a disc and no extra crap for $5 – $10 and that would be fine.

I used to think the same thing about the latches on DVD cases. I later learned that they aren’t latches, but rather locks. My sister used to destroy DVDs when she was younger, but she couldn’t open the cases to the movies with the latches.

I have in my hands quite possibly the worst DVD case ever concocted. James, you really should have had one of these for your video. This is Stuart Little 2. And to get inside this case you have to literally cut the fucking case with a pair of scissors three times. I’m not kidding. There’s even little pictures of scissors and the text “cut here” molded into the plastic of the case at each location to cut. What fucktard thought this was a good idea? Thankfully I’ve never seen this repeated in any other movie so far.

I remember way back when you talked about those weird DVD box clippers, I agree why the fuck would you need them since the box can close well without them. The Blu-ray packaging is definite fail, the instructions on how to take the disks out is hilarious. Why can’t they just keep it simple as a normal box case?

Well, i can only assume that designing a good DVD-case was someones job.
They designed the ordinary DVD-case, and it was perfect, but then what?
If they admit that the design is perfect and final, they’re gonna lose their job, so they’re gonna keep making “upgrades” just to stay busy to keep from getting fired.
I think that is why so much software like Windows and Google suck these days: single guys fucking it up out of self interest.
They should make it a law that anything sold comes with a feedback form.
Cause companies have no clue what their clients actually want.

Firstly, they would not change Windows, or the way Google searches if it happened like this. It takes a huge amount of work and a huge amount of money to do anything.
The reason they do it is for you: the consumer. If Windows didn’t come up with new OS versions every few years, their stocks will fall, it will become outdated, and more will turn to Mac OS X and Linux. Yes, Linux. In Google’s case, they do it to allow you ease of use. The new instant search was to bring you faster results. Even though people responded with mixed feelings, it had been created with good intent.

I have a Spider-Man collection set that is literally all three discs stting on top of each other with no seperation. I’m afraid to watch them because I’m afraid I’ll ruin the discs. I got the Blade Runner collection with four versions of the same movie from Amazon, and the damn plastic pieces in the center that hold the DVDs were all broken and the discs were just sliding around.

The older Blu-Rays had those flap things too. When I bought one, I got five DVD’s free (this was back when HD-DVDs existed). They all had those flap things. At first I didn’t realize this and made one have its front cover cave in a little while trying to pry it open, now it barely opens at all.

DVD stands for digital video disc so…in generic terms there is nothing wrong with saying dvd when refering to a blu-ray disc.
second: i worked at a video store a while back and we all had the SAME opinion about the bullshit tabs, so i just started snaping those fuckers off, pretty soon EVERYONE that worked at the store was doing it…the great thing is one of our bosses got pissed about it so we all just blamed it on this dork we all hated and he got fired.
…now granted he was a dick and we were glad to see him go but…firing him over those tabs that do nothing to help the case stay closed…now THATS bullshit!

I will have to defend the clips on the side. If you notice most are on childrens movies. If you have kids they help because then you don’t have a child opening them and scratching the DVD. I will add the I hate them personally but they are great to stop kids. It makes there DVD’s last much, much longer.

Also at this point, with an exception of a FEW particular releases, DVD cases are the least of what we need to complain about. Those latches are child protection devices Disney, Universal and some other studios use to make sure your kids can’t open the case. And, yes, they are bullshit. Also, did you notice that the Back to the Future Blu-ray set is six discs, but only 3 of they are actual Blu-ray discs? The other three are DVDs with the digital copies of each movie on them. They fucking doubled the size of the set for digital copies that will expire in a year or less anyways. You should make an episode about that, because that is bullshit!!!

Actually, those latches on the Disney DVD are for security at retail stores. You see, thieves take the DVD case and split it open at the top, bottom or sides and just remove the DVD without having to pull off the plastic. They do this so quickly they are rarely caught. So DVD companies came up with the latches to make it more difficult to just open the case. It helps a little, but not as much as one would hope.

I also hate the cheap holders in Hong Kong Box Sets; they break so easily & can’t be fixed or replaced. Bulk CD cases have the same kind of holders & are only a little less fragile.

The Simpsons, plastic ‘head shaped’ limited editions have the most horrible packaging I’ve ever seen.
They have a dodgy and pointless plastic O-ring, then the head opens vertically (hinged), and then the inside cardboard opens to the left, where there’s a booklet that’s barely held in place. The lid (or front) cover has a peice of cardboard with a picture on it that’s not held in place at all. & the disks are all stacked inside the back of the head, which way they open seems to be random for each one, but no matter what, you’ve got to bend the plastic head at least a little bit to be able to actually flip through the disks. The disks have those two-triangle locks so you actually have to make an effort to get them out, all the while there’s cardboard falling out, the case keeps wanting to close, and you’ve got other bits to put back together when you’re done picking a disk. It’s fucking annoying.

I hate how some dvd cases make you jump through hoops just to get the disc out of it. It makes me feel like a hamster in a maze. And i’ve seen those snap things like the one on the Cinderella case. It’s a dvd! Not a fucking briefcase!

I like that it’s in widescreen now, the resolution was nice too. The continual evolution of the Internet amazes me. I did notice the buffer bar lose to the player bar a few times. Wasn’t too much of an inconvience but still annoying. For us Australians such interuptions should end once the NBN is rolled out

You need to quit rehashing the same stuff over and over. It seems to be a trend lately. Your AVGN material went stale because it wasn’t original anymore.

You know what’s bullshit? Movies that are UNRATED on DVD, they’re just basically deleted scenes added in or just some parts cut from the theatrical release!
SEX DRIVE has to be the most disturbing movie to have a UNRATED DVD and I threw it away because it has dick shots. I cant believe it belongs to one of my friends….

I have to admit, this one is the only YKWBS video I didn’t like. First of all, not ALL Blu-Ray discs come with slip cases, nor do they have those fucked-up disc release designs (à la BttF 25th Anniversary Collection).
In the end, yes I DO hate those DVD cases with the latches on them, BUT so do thieves (as others have pointed out above). As someone who works in retail, trust me those cases are a godsend – the way I see it is if you don’t like the latches, just break ‘em off once you own the DVD!

Not your best YKWBS episode James, but still kudos for doing it. I’m sure there’s plenty of AVGN goodness to come out of the movie you’re making, and also the new E.T episode. Just get the new episode done when you can, ignore the impatient idiots who would happily see you break down in stress just to get their Nerd episodes.

I really like these weird and interesting sorta cases, I think they make a DVD collection look smart and the DVDs gain character from them.
its like I have the Death Note Anime Box-set on DVD and it comes with this neat little Art book, but when you take a DVD out you have to hold it in as it tends to fall out with one case missing and if it falls out you can not get it back in without bending the pages so you have to take out every DVD, put the book in first and put them all back in after, Annoying but I still like it, I can not say I want this changing ^_^
