I’m not sure about the church, but according to Wikipedia Christmas Evil was filmed in “Suburban New Jersey” so it is likely that you inadvertently came across the same floor. Kudos to an obscure find.
It’s quite possible that scenes inte the movie was filmed in that church because I found that it was actually filmed in Englewood, New Jersey. It’s quite some distance from Cherry Hill, but still in NJ.
PLEASE review the Uwe Ball piece of sh*t!!, I have never seen it, but it would be funny to see someone else watch it. (so we don’t have to suffer watching it!)
Thanks for the great videos and mike is awesome, I would like to see him play himself as a villian (example a rival nerd!!!)
In answer to your query, after your shit gets sucked into your septic tank and turned into a smooth, finely-ground shit milkshake (shitshake?), it either enters into a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) or, in the case of more dated residential communities, into a combined sewer system to be mixed in with the town’s rainwater. I am very sorry to report that I could get into a much more thorough and detailed explanation if you so desired.
lol I’ve had the same sewer conversation before. After moving from the city back to a small town in Maine, I learned that not only do we have a septic tank, but a section of the lawn which underneath is this interesting processing device called a ‘Leach field’ which turns the shit back into…good shit that just goes back into your lawn! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Septic_drain_field
Thats where we plant my blueberries; they come out real delicious with all that good ass gravy and other unspeakable human waste to plump ‘em up, mmm!
just kidding.
I’m pretty sure that the creepy girl mask at 6:45 is Little Orphan Annie (Mike had guessed it to be Blondie).
And I had to laugh at James’ remark about this movie being similar to “Tales From The Hood.” Odds are that the directors of both films would be pissed by the comparison.
Great stuff. You guys are pretty hardcore for sitting through that pile of donkey doo-doo. Have you ever watched a movie called Satan’s Dog. I sat through all of this movie. It was rough, or it was woof I should say. Ha! Check that one out. You’ll have a field day with that. Pure Satan’s Dog shit. Keep the vids rolling, great stuff!
On the plus side, shit is constantly happening in Uwe’s movie, and people die left and right. Plus it’s easily his greatest success ever. It had two DVD releases, a sequel (which wasn’t even directed by Uwe!!!), and it was the only one of Uwe’s movies to ever make back its money. And don’t forget: director’s commentary. Meanwhile, this House of the Dead looks like if you took the sex and gore out of an Italian exploitation movie.
Honestly you guys need to have a few drinks or smoke a joint & lighten up. This movie looks so bad, just look at her facial features, her acting is awful…I was laughing more at her reactions than your commentary.
In my honest opinion AVGN was the only gimmick you had going, I know you’re probably getting bored of doing it and now that you have achieved a certain level of fame you want to move onto bigger and better things……..
Just know, this is one disappointed fan.
I still love you James, I’d love to meet & talk with you, you seem to have interesting things to say. I’m not telling you to stop doing this cause it’s obviously what you want to do.
PS- I grew up in an area called ‘Cherry Hill’ in Canada, so I thought that was cool.
There was a movie i remember about a house attacking. It was called Monster House. It was an animated movie, but it was targeted towards kids and was pretty scary for me as a kid. They should do something like that in a motion feature.
You guys were talking about a few things that I wanted to comment on. I’m usually not much of a commenter. The mask that kid is wearing is almost identical to the Rob Zombie Halloween clown mask. The face is the same, but the hat is different. I watched the special features on the Halloween DVD and Rob Zombie’s costume designer found that mask on Ebay looking for creepy vintage masks. They made a mold out of the original and then made a bunch of copies. It’s a weird coincidence that they used almost the exact mask in both movies.
Also, there is a movie where the house comes alive and attacks people, there’s probably a few, but the one I’m thinking of is called “Monster House.” It’s a children’s 3D animated cartoon, but it’s actually pretty good. It’s not violent or anything but it definitely captures the feeling of an oldschool forror film.
I Was expecting the piece of shit Uwe Boll movie, not some crap from the 70′s i never heard of. Didn’t even know there was another movie with that title.
If I make make a suggestion to you guys, you should watch the piece of shit movie called Thankskilling. It’s about this turkey on Thanksgiving that kills people. The movie is so shitty due to acting, the plot and quite frankly every aspect of it. I dare you two to watch it. Honestly, and I’m not lying, every time I think of that movie I physically get sick and lose all hope for humanity. I dare you guys to watch it!
Yeah there was that animated movie called Monster House that was about a actual house attacking people but also there is a 80′s film called House about a guys mental and physical battle with a house that has a mind of its own. Its a child hood favorite and if you have not seen it, you should heh I think you would get a major kick out of it. Avoid the House sequels though because they were pretty bad though the 2nd has its moments.
This was awesome. I always enjoy your commentaries but It was awesome being able to actually see your reactions. You guys are a great team. ha. I’d love to see a full scale movie review like this!
Last time I was at that church was for a funeral in 2004…but from what I remember when I was talking to some of my relatives, the whole area is built around the same time.
I would bet that the local library or school is where it was filmed.
ha ha, I honestly thought y’all were going to review the Uwe Boll film at first. I just sat through one this past weekend (In the Name of the King). All y’all need to know is it’s a Lord of the Rings wanna be with the King portrayed by Burt Reynolds and an evil wizard is played by Ray Liotta
Holy crap, St. Bart’s church. I drive past it every friggin’ day. And yeah, it looks like most of the movie was shot in Jersey, so it’s possible that they got the flooring from the same place.
the bulk of the movie was filmed in north jersey and reading so they could have ventured down to cherry hill somewhere during filming. the actors might have even went down there for fun while on break and decided to just start filming and the director decided to put it in the film . thats the only explination i can think of.
James, have you considered doing mini-AVGN episodes? Something that wouldn’t take very long but is enough to satisfy your fans who come here for the classic video games, and not for movie information.
TALES FROM THE HOOD…man, I forgot all about that one!
It was a 1995 Spike Lee movie in the same vein as Tales From The Crypt, Tales From The Darkside, Trilogy Of Terror & Creepshow. Three thugs go into (what they believe is) a funeral home to make a drug deal, & the mortician tells them 4 supernatural stories centered around African Americans.
The first is about 4 police officers, (3 crooked white cops, & 1 black rookie). The white cops kill a black politician while the rookie does nothing. A year later, the rookie, (who is now homeless & off the force) helps the politicians’ ghost avenge itself.
The second is about a small boy who lives with an abusive step-father, & his teacher begins noticing brusies. The boy seems to have some sort of power where if he draws a picture of a person, then destroys it by (for example) crumpling it up, it physically affects who he drew.
The third (& best story) is a about a white politican (& former KKK member) who lives in a house that once belonged to a slave owner. When slavery was abolished, the slave owner murdered all the slaves rather than see them go free. Their souls were in torment until a voodoo priestess transfered the souls into wooden dolls. The black community want the house destroyed so that the slaves can finally rest in peace, but the politician isn’t going anywhere without a fight.
The fourth story is about a gangsta who guns down a rival gang member, & then gets gunned down himself. After he heals, he’s offered a chance to get out of prison if he allows himself to be taken to a mysterious facility where (in a scene taken from A Clockwork Orange) he’s visually assaulted by images of the negative historical effects of black-on-black crime. Later, he’s haunted by ghosts of the people he’s shot, on purpose & accidently. The facility symbolizes redemption for his soul…which he flatly rejects.
Tales From The Hood is a hidden gem. It deserves the Cinemassacre treatment.
You know what’s bullshit? When the actual video you want is so quiet you have to crank up your volume as loud as it can go, then when it ends there is a blaring loud advertisement.
House of The Dead is based off of a popular arcade game franchise, although the arcade games were amazing, the movie adaptation was…well you watched it…its fucking terrible..
@grandmaster
Yes I have thought about making shorter mini-AVGN episodes, similar to how they were in 2006, ranging from 5-7 minutes. If fans are interested to see the show scaled back like that, instead of nothing at all, then I will continue.
James, as a huge fan I’d like to say I wouldn’t want to see AVGN return for 5-7 minute videos. I miss the videos sure, but if you were going to keep making them, I’d like to see them be the 13-18 minute videos. I know you are busy and that’s why you are cutting back on them though (and to work on the movie), so I think you should just make the fans be patient and wait for the movie with maybe a few full length AVGN’s every couple of months and for special occasions (Halloween, Christmas, and other holidays).
Sadly you can’t understand portuguese, but there’s a cool program made by friends of mine, that reviews movies making jokes. Maybe You’ll find it cool and inspiring.
James, earlier you responded to grandmasters’ suggestion about doing shorter AVGN episodes. As long as the episodes are funny, & the games aren’t too obscure (ie. Day Dreaming Davey/Lester The Unlikely), I say do it. I (seriously) love coming to this site & being able to say “Did you see James’ new AVGN today?”
Incidentally, these Ninja Turtle videos you’re doing are awesome!
At the start of the video it had the date showing as 1980, You said it was from 78? Was it released before it was copywritten? Also you mentioned a house being the one killing people like a zombie house. I have read a book like that before. The problem is there are other books with similar titles making it almost impossible to find anymore. I can’t remember the main title but the sub title was House of Soul Thief. It was kinda like a Vampire story. Kids would get lost in a fog and find their way to this house where they could live their fantasies but in the process they would lose their soul to the house and join the other past kids as silver fish in the pond.
wow there is a lot of arse kissing in these comments!
I am sure that James & Mike would prefer honesty? I know I would…
I am not saying this was bad but is it really fucking great or awesome even?
A couple of friends sitting watching a film and giving us their opinion on it, while they are having a laugh… As I said, it is nae bad but its not… FUCKING AWESOME is it? Fucks sake!
wait is that basically it, just a story where a person goes to a funeral house and some guy tells a story where a child hater gets eaten by dead children in her house (hint: house of the dead) i got to say the remake was hell of a lot better since there are dead people eating a lot of living people instead of a story where one i repeat ONE person gets eaten
i think it’d be a good idea if you filmed a commentary of the whole thing, released a short version here and then had an audio, sync-up-with the movie download of the whole thing like you did with dracula, that would be cool
Do you guys think you can fix this video? I tried on here no luck, even on blip no luck and lastly it doesn’t work on your android app. I love this video and would like to watch it again. Thanks.
there is a very, very well done “found footage” type movie called “V.H.S.”, it came out last year I think. anyway, it is also a anthology type movie with stories, with the last one being a haunted house that starts acting some guys that walked in it by mistake. great movie, you need to watch it if you haven’t already.
hehe I’m with Mike! If a movie has a name like “House of the DEAD” there had better be some GD dying in it! And fast! Very funny commentary. Thanks for doing these!
May 9, 2011 at 2:08 am
Nice one i usually get pretty bored with commentaries but this one was good.
May 9, 2011 at 2:33 am
Does the movie continue after this? Need more stuff like this, public domain movies with floor discussion in the game room.
May 9, 2011 at 2:43 am
This is totally not the Uwe Boll one like I was hoping. That one would have been hilarious to hear your guys commentaries about.
May 9, 2011 at 2:43 am

IMDB lists the following filming locations for the movie “You better watch out” (original title):
Englewood, New Jersey, USA
Glen Ridge, New Jersey, USA
Hope Rescue Mission – 645 N. Sixth Street, Reading, Pennsylvania, USA
Montclair, New Jersey, USA

Other than that, good stuff.

Actually James, the Video Effect you were thinking of was “bevel and embross”. Thought I’d tell ya.
Also, great video.
May 9, 2011 at 6:12 am
Got the video working.
Entertaining stuff guys. I’d like to hear the entire commentary, even if you released it audio only.
A movie about a house that attacks people would be Monster House.
Nice to hear Tales From the Hood mentioned, I think it’s underrated. You guys should give it a rewatch,

May 9, 2011 at 8:37 am
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1334536/ Is basically about a house that’s alive and attacks people. It’s decent I suppose V:

thats great your reviewing a horror movie, did you get this rip from horrorhaven.org thats where i got this movie.

About the house, it reminds me of a passsage in th Dark Tower (Stephen King) when the kid try to go through the door and the house try to kill him.

HEY tell me if u think Mike looks like the headless horseman from Sleepy Hallows? cuz he does a lot
May 9, 2011 at 11:50 pm
You know what’s bullshit? When the actual video you want is so quiet you have to crank up your volume as loud as it can go, then when it ends there is a blaring loud advertisement.
May 10, 2011 at 4:52 am
House of The Dead is based off of a popular arcade game franchise, although the arcade games were amazing, the movie adaptation was…well you watched it…its fucking terrible..
May 10, 2011 at 5:03 am
Actually the second remake of the “House on the haunted hill” had the house coming after the people inside it.

@grandmaster
Yes I have thought about making shorter mini-AVGN episodes, similar to how they were in 2006, ranging from 5-7 minutes. If fans are interested to see the show scaled back like that, instead of nothing at all, then I will continue.
May 10, 2011 at 11:23 am
James, as a huge fan I’d like to say I wouldn’t want to see AVGN return for 5-7 minute videos. I miss the videos sure, but if you were going to keep making them, I’d like to see them be the 13-18 minute videos. I know you are busy and that’s why you are cutting back on them though (and to work on the movie), so I think you should just make the fans be patient and wait for the movie with maybe a few full length AVGN’s every couple of months and for special occasions (Halloween, Christmas, and other holidays).
May 10, 2011 at 5:36 pm
I’ve never seen this movie, but man does it look BORING. Is there even a plot to speak of?
I also remember the HOTD video game, that was actually pretty decent.
As for Uwe Boll movies… I agree with Mike on that subject: [Dennis Hopper voice]“F*CK THAT SHIT!”[/Dennis Hopper]

Hey, nice one, James&mike!
Sadly you can’t understand portuguese, but there’s a cool program made by friends of mine, that reviews movies making jokes. Maybe You’ll find it cool and inspiring.
I hope there is CC to translate PT to EN.
Keep up the good work!

May 10, 2011 at 7:50 pm
appereantly, this movie is so boring that james and mike would rather talk about the floor than the actual movie….
May 10, 2011 at 8:09 pm
about the house attacking the people, look up the movie monster house.
May 10, 2011 at 8:28 pm
James, earlier you responded to grandmasters’ suggestion about doing shorter AVGN episodes. As long as the episodes are funny, & the games aren’t too obscure (ie. Day Dreaming Davey/Lester The Unlikely), I say do it. I (seriously) love coming to this site & being able to say “Did you see James’ new AVGN today?”
Incidentally, these Ninja Turtle videos you’re doing are awesome!

I kinda like these movie commentaries, here’s the entire movie in case you wanna watch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDvKJDe4xjc&feature=BFa&list=PLE472E85711A34606&index=1

About the whole comment about the filming of Christmas Evil, yes, it was filmed in that exact location.
Also, great video! Very funny!
May 14, 2011 at 12:30 pm
go watch Monster House
May 15, 2011 at 12:36 am
At the start of the video it had the date showing as 1980, You said it was from 78? Was it released before it was copywritten? Also you mentioned a house being the one killing people like a zombie house. I have read a book like that before. The problem is there are other books with similar titles making it almost impossible to find anymore. I can’t remember the main title but the sub title was House of Soul Thief. It was kinda like a Vampire story. Kids would get lost in a fog and find their way to this house where they could live their fantasies but in the process they would lose their soul to the house and join the other past kids as silver fish in the pond.

Filmed in and around NJ, but not Cherry Hill. Maybe that floor was the popular design at the time up there ; )
May 19, 2011 at 9:58 am
wow there is a lot of arse kissing in these comments!
Fucks sake!
May 20, 2011 at 1:47 pm
I’d love to see you guys make more full commentary on old or shitty movies, like the White Zombie one.
May 27, 2011 at 6:58 pm
WordPress 3.1.3 is available James. It just said that it was, and I thought, oh wtf, I’ll just leave it in a comment and see what happens..
June 17, 2011 at 6:48 am
Hey James, Christmas Evil WAS filmed in New Jersey =)
June 18, 2011 at 11:31 pm
Now, I’ll have to admit… *Takes breath* I kinda like the Uwe Boll House of the Dead.
*Angry mob comes after Joe with torches and pitchforks screaming “Kill the Heretic!”*
Funny commentary, btw.
July 14, 2011 at 8:55 pm
wait is that basically it, just a story where a person goes to a funeral house and some guy tells a story where a child hater gets eaten by dead children in her house (hint: house of the dead) i got to say the remake was hell of a lot better since there are dead people eating a lot of living people instead of a story where one i repeat ONE person gets eaten
July 30, 2011 at 7:44 pm
I think that rug was pretty popular in the late 70s and early 80s since I remember one in our house too.
September 26, 2011 at 9:24 pm
You guys need to do a commentary of the movie Faces of Death.
December 26, 2011 at 9:09 am
i think it’d be a good idea if you filmed a commentary of the whole thing, released a short version here and then had an audio, sync-up-with the movie download of the whole thing like you did with dracula, that would be cool
February 22, 2012 at 2:05 pm
I think that pixar made a movie about a house atacking people, It’s called monster house or smth.
March 13, 2012 at 12:02 am
The movie looks pretty bad.
March 30, 2012 at 2:06 am

June 29, 2012 at 1:13 am

October 8, 2012 at 7:49 pm

November 1, 2012 at 8:54 am
Do you guys think you can fix this video? I tried on here no luck, even on blip no luck and lastly it doesn’t work on your android app. I love this video and would like to watch it again. Thanks.
February 18, 2013 at 1:08 pm
there is a very, very well done “found footage” type movie called “V.H.S.”, it came out last year I think. anyway, it is also a anthology type movie with stories, with the last one being a haunted house that starts acting some guys that walked in it by mistake. great movie, you need to watch it if you haven’t already.
March 15, 2013 at 2:11 am
I don’t know if you guys have seen it but check out Monster house, its a kid movie though. That is the mask from Rob Zombies Halloween.
April 12, 2013 at 1:16 am
hehe I’m with Mike! If a movie has a name like “House of the DEAD” there had better be some GD dying in it! And fast! Very funny commentary. Thanks for doing these!
