UPDATE: Great news! Season 9 and 10 have both been released recently and season 10 includes the missing episodes “Once Upon a Time Machine” and “Planet of the Turteloids.”

Love these Turtle Tuesdays! Awesome job, James! Love you!
I find these studio releases to all be half-assed and ultimately a fruitless purchase for the fans. Not only were both the 1987 and 2003 TMNT series were incomplete. But Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, Tiny Toon Adventures, DuckTales, Tale Spin, and Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers all of which were stopped so close to completion. The only ones seemingly complete are Pinky and the Brain and Animaniacs. Of which the latter I never liked, maybe because I hated the Beatles, but at least some fans are satisfied.
I’m really loving this Turtle Tuesday series. Gives me something to look forward to watching on Tuesdays! Especially since I am as big of a turtles fan as you are James! Thank you! Keep up the great work!
Please, how hard can it be to release the whole series in complete order? My brother just got the real ghostbusters boxset, the whole firestation as a box, i think a good idea would be to release a FAT technodrome, with the COMPLETE classic series, and do some cool boxset for the new series too.
I was planning to buy these series, but now, i,m having second thoughts, i,ve allready got the first DVD though and it kicks ass:)
Thank you James for that cool review, your allways so fun to watch!
Oh forgot one little detail:)
So frekin cool that you put up these Turtle tuesday, i was hoping for a long time that you would do some review on the classic carton series, so this was waaay over my expectation
Youre making a gray day way more sunny with your funny reviews!
So, James has the DVD’s of the new show? I always thought he wouldn’t care enough about the newer, darker show because it was nothing like the original. I wonder what he thinks about it, and hope that he mentions it and talks about it a bit in his ‘TMNT series review’.
They never finished releasing DVD’s for either series? Man, that’s bullshit. So much bullshit it deserves it’s own You Know What’s Bullshit episode. They did the same shit to so many awesome shows, like Pete and Pete. Jesus, stuff like that just pisses me off!
Keep up the good work though. I love these videos, and was expecting a part 2 of the original series review, but I love all of your Chronologically Confused vids as well.
In reference to the Region 1 original series DVDs, I haven’t bought any because of how messed up the release, I’m hoping in the next few years, Lionsgate home entertainment releases them all in a complete series box set, I’m not holding my breath, but they might as well this point.
You’re so true here James
I own a Box Set DVD with the classic cartoons but they are mixed up episodes from diffrent seasons so once i pop in Disc 2 and Dr. Baxter where already the fly and i was like “ehh ok shouldn’t he be baxter first” and then at disc 3 he his baxter that turns into the fly and the funny part is that on the DVd it said “DISC 3″ etc.
So they even fucked up on the DVD Box Set but it’s a nice DVD i must say but please get them in right order!
I have most of the episodes from the 2003 series. But the one from the 80′s that I grew up with cannot be found on DVD here in Sweden (believe me, I’ve looked long and hard)! I’ve only found some on VHS, but hey! is it really that hard to release the entire thing??? I thought I was just dumb or something, but if they haven’t released the whole thing in the US then I guess I’m out of luck finding it i swedish… Drat.
Thanks for this vid, James. You just made my Tuesday! (^.^)
It’s gotta be a licensing issue. James, are all of those DVD’s produced by the same company, or are there several companies involves? I’d be curious to know.
Maybe, if the 2012 rumored movie happens now that Bay has the rights, they’ll start bringing out solid season-long sets to coincide with it. We shall see.
Holy shit talk about irony. Just yesterday I finally got fed up trying to navigate these fucking things in order and determined something had to be done. So I took it upon myself to start re-authoring and burning new discs in common sense chronological order. No more of this bullshit.
Totally 100% agree with everything said. They fucked it all up and then some.
That’s just fucking insane. I never knew either of the TMNT series releases were such textbook examples of FUBAR. Luckily I’m only interested in buying the first two seasons of the original TMNT on DVD so that’s not such a big deal for me but I DID want the entire 2K3 series on DVD so that’s a problem. Thanks for letting the fans know James, I really appreciate it. It would be nice if Shout! Factory did full series releases for both TMNT shows like they did for The Real Ghostbusters, Transformers (we’re even going to get the Japanese Transformers shows soon), and GI Joe. We can only hope, stranger things have happened.
Great Turtle Tuesday as usual James. And to think I thought this edition would be boring…
Hey James, here in Germany they’re releasing the Turtles in chronological order with german and english dub. There are already 3 volumes with 80 episodes, if you’re interested, just search for the ninja turtles on amazon.de or a similiar website.
You think that’s bad? In the UK we only got a 25th anniversary set containing the first 2 seasons of the and 3 of those annoying random episode collections of the ’87 show. Also we only got the first 7 volumes of the ’03 series and the Turtles Forever special. The UK is treated like crap when it comes to cartoon box sets. No Animaniacs, no Justice League, no Tiny Toons adventures, no GI Joe. I think the only US cartoon to be fully released was the 80s Transformers.
Season one was originally released on VHS tapes that you got at Burger King whenever you’d buy a kid’s meal. I remember I accidentally broke one of my little brother’s tapes, and I went around to about four different Burger Kings buying kid meals trying to replace that tape.
Yeah, I hate when DVD’s pull that crap. It reminds me of how lazy Fox gets with the Family Guy DVDs (before I shipped mine off to the Exchange). Volumes 1 & 2 were the first 3 seasons combined into two 4-disc sets each. Then when the show was renewed, they got lazy. We only fragments of seasons spread out onto as many discs as possible.
i love the 2003 tmnt series i was brought up on them at least u have all the episodes in region 1 region 2 only has like 2 seasons i was pissed i only wanted the first 5 seasons before they went to the future thats when it went shit, why is it so hard to release programs as seasons lol also james you moaned about the theme song on the dvd menu every tv program dvd has the theme song on the menu lol
Well, I’ve got explanations for all of James’s questions. Why do they release it like that? Simple:
The majority of TMNT watchers are kids aged 6-14, maybe a little older. The majority of the DVD buyers are the same age group. And most of them don’t give a fuck about what season they’re watching or what episode. And none of them trying to find out if some episodes are missing or not. They want to watch cartoons, they pop the DVD into player and watch cartoons, and doesn’t care which season or episode it is.
I’m really glad you went over this James. I was an avid buyer of the original TMNT DVD’s when they first came out. I would buy a new one every time I saw it at the local store. Then I started realizing about the volume vs. season issue and got confused… I didn’t know wth was going on, thusly I gave up buying them from there on out.
It’s a real shame that they did this to the fans. My only explanation for any of this would possibly be that they didn’t give a fuck due to that they’d realize that if you’re a fan you’ll keep buying more DVDs over and over. I also never knew about the 2k series being so disorganized as well, I wanted to wait until they came out with a box set of some sort before I bought them because of the pure fact that the DVDs I always saw were filled with a small amount of eps. It sucks really, I would love to own that series in full.
Just like your Season 1 set, this too comes with some Season 10 episodes as well as all the episodes from Season 2. The probable reason why we have these extra episodes is because the first season was too short. Well at least it’s not called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. :p
Yeah that’s pretty messy. What is it about the nature of TV shows that makes it hard to compile them?
Anyway, I’ve noticed even a Family Guy episodes are getting a little confusing (at least on Netflix). Netflix keeps reordering how you access each one, and on the iPhone, it lists the family guy special 100th episode as episode 102.
I hope we get 2003 TMNT videos down the line by James as well. Next Mutation is a terrible a series but it deserves a mention as well.
I never tried to collect the DVDs for either series because I knew episodes were missing and jumbled up. Hopefully Nick/Viacom will fix this mess. At least the new series in 2012 will learn from these past mistakes.
I still want the true Turtles Forever version to be released not the cut for TV air one.
thats why i stopped at Season 2. when i realized what they were doing with the VOLUMES, i just went and downloaded the seasons off the internet. some were DVD rips while others had the missing episodes taped off tv during its first airings.
im hoping one day they will release each season as a bluray set or all together as one complete set with all 10 seasons packaged together.
never cared for the 2003 series so my only interest is with the original series.
Lol. I remember 4kids used to release Yu-Gi-Oh DVDs like the 2003 TMNT ones. 4 episodes per disk. -_- I wish they’d release the 2003 TMNT show on a boxset or put it on Netflix or something.
At least you get most of the seasons in the US, here in the UK we only get one box set with seasons one and two on it, plus four episodes from season 10 (except for a cheaper set with just three episodes on, which are probably from season 1 as well)
Good video James season 7 Back to the sewers was released in Australia on 2 dvds actually.
I have managed to get almost all the north american dvds but it is a pain in the ass and you are right some are hard to track down. I think it was early when dvds had just come out they were still putting some of the episodes on vhs maybe that has something to do with the low amount of episodes on early dvds.
I’m glad you got the 2k3 series I look forward to a possible review I am a big fan of it =)
Wow that’s crazy didn’t really know alot of the episodes were missing and mixed up well now that Nickelodeon Owns the rights to TMNT except the 1987 turtles maybe Nickelodeon will get it right and make a boxset of the TMNT 2003 complete Seasons if they can get the rights to the 1987 one’s maybe they will do the same and make a boxset with all the episodes in the right seasons guess we have to wait and see Good Video James.
I have always hated them being released in volumes were a season or series is punched out in just a few episodes a DVDs and released separately i refuse to buy any Anime, Cartoon, TV show, or such things if the whole season or series is not in a nice set all episodes of the time frame in just a few DVDs. The Nerd DVDs for example are nice, simple and clean so great job there James!
Wow! Thanks for doing this! I recently got all of these original series DVD’s from Amazon, and hadn’t started watching them yet. Now I realize I”ll have to do some research when I begin. It’s a shame that the turtles haven’t gotten the treatment which other 80′s shows have recently. I’ve gotten the completes series of He-man, transformers, G.I.Joe, and The Real Ghostbusters, all in nice complete order, the last three were even in complete series boxed sets. Turtles deserve this too. At least most of the episodes are out. I’m still waiting on M.A.S.K!
They were planing on release a 4 volume set, each case was supposedly made of tin and had each turtles face on it. Each tin was to contain 48 episodes with the last one containing 49 episodes, sadly not enough interest was present so they were never made.
I hate the whole rewriting of history that has been going on with this new generation ever since DVD’s started coming out.
It is false advertising that just never stops. If a DVD clearly states on a box or on a cover what the contents should contain, the box/DVD should contain what you purchased. At around $5 – $10 a DVD that adds up and you eventually have a lot of pissed of people, which should have a joint lawsuit and should sue! If anyone thinks I am making this up, the Bruce Lee franchise is littered with false advertising.
Besides all the above nonsense that did anyone else see the mini technodrome? Maybe next week we’ll see chrome dome.
Look in the upper corner: See that 4Kids logo?
That unholy stamp of fail is the whole problem. 4Kids in the cartoon equivalent of movie games on the NES by LJN.
Oh god, that last season 8 dvd even has that recycle safe print out, i hate those dvd’s, they can get holes in them pretty fast if you grab at them to hard.
I have the first two seasons of the original show. After that I just never got around to buying the rest, but seeing shit like this just pushes me toward getting it off Bittorrent. I gladly pay for content, my DVD collection is fairly huge, but they need to make it easy to understand what I’m buying. Seriously, it isn’t that fucking hard.
wow i didnt realize the order is so fucked up. i wanted to buy the series but i guess ill stick to the internet for the episodes. maybe someday they’ll release them in 2 box sets with every season and every episode in perfect order. is that to much to ask?
Yeah that sucks, man. I really hate when dvd or video game companies screw up the order or don’t give you everything to the season or series. I’m actually kind of mad with a similar thing like this. I bought a Metal Gear Solid package for MGS1-3. It didn’t come with a bonus disc that can play the original Japanese version of MGS, from what I know from researching. Anyway, thanks for posting this it is really appreciated. Been looking forward to TMNT Tuesdays today.
Thank you James for calling out these morons. Your review brought back a lot of angry, confused memories.
Now that Viacom is going to be pushing their own version of the TMNT soon, don’t expect The 1980s or 2000′s TMNT on DVD any time soon. Thank goodness for BitTorrent, eh?
BTW, the Turtles forever DVD is also messed up; it’s edited and in non-anamorphic widescreen.
I think the reason they put the first episode of the next season on the season 3 and 4 DVD’s is because those seasons ended on cliffhangers, both involving Krang and Shredder finally getting the Technodrome powered up and on the attack the turtles finding a way to defeat them and get it stuck somewhere at the beginning of the next season.
I hate when they start releasing a tv show on dvd and don’t finish it.
It happend with Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers, Gargoyles, Gummi Bears, and Silverhawks.
IT also sucks when they don’t put the episodes in proper order.
Lionsgate released the entire Rambo cartoon show on 6 dvd volumes, but the episodes are jumble around in seemingly ramdom order. The first five episodes are a five part series, but volume one only has the third part on it. Why the hell did they have to release them this way?
I’m interested in what James thinks of the 25th anniversary Turtles movie box sets. There is the DVD version with a plastic sewer grating case and a Bluray version with a cardboard case.
I wouldn’t worry about missing seasons 9 and 10 of the original series. Almost everyone stopped watching during season 4, and literally everyone stopped watching during season 8. Plus, 9 and 10 are weird. 9 is the one that went way to far trying to be edgy, and 10 is the one that went way too far in the opposite direction.
At least with some live action TV shows, they know how to be consistent but why not the cartoons too? Do they think that we adults don’t feel nostalgic enough for something like Ninja Turtles.
At least with Ren & Stimpy, you get every episode of seasons 1-5 on three boxsets. Some of the episodes aren’t entirely uncut but it’s a minor gripe I can get over.
Oy! what a load of croc dung, this sucks really really bad., glad I didn’t spend my money on it yet or ask people to buy the things for me, the people who released these things on dvds are dumber than beebop and rocksteady combined!
They really screwed up on BOTH Ninja Turtles series on DVD, didn’t they? I hope they won’t act this way when they deside to put them on Blu-Ray.
BTW, James, I thought of a good concept for a chronologically confused video: the Universal Monsters films, particularly the Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolf Man films.
I’ve never understood why they are so inconsistent when it comes to cartoon series dvds. Modern cartoons especially, they love to release only a few episodes at a time on a disc instead of just waiting to release the whole season. Do they think kids don’t have enough of an attention span to watch a whole season? Isn’t the point that you can only watch one episode at a time whenever you want? What about us adults that like cartoons too? They’re just ripping us off.
i am a fan of the 2003 version and the reason why i think 4kids didnt release them correctly is because of how they think… by what i mean is that how they think they need to change every thing… and how they think that by them doing that they will get populer…. and when they knew that they had a hit on there hands they must have thought “duh… which way should we release this show? oh i got it! how about we make it a big cluserfuck for the fans so that way they will watch more of our product!”
You know. A lot of people would try to use being overworked on something as an excuse. “I’ve been doing AVGN for so long that.. I can’t do anything else. You see.. if I didn’t have to do AVGN every month, there would be SOOO much more content.”
And then they stop.. and for a few days there IS more content.. but then it peters out and you are stucks with little to NO content.
But, it’s amazing. It used to be that I would check Cinemassacre every day .. and then it turned into a ‘check-it-the-first-thursday/friday-of-the-month’ and two other days. There would always be a new AVGN and one or two movie reviews or something else.
But.. we’ve had new content, almost daily, or at least a few times a week.. for weeks now.
James, you are one of the hardest working mother fuckers I’ve ever seen. Keep up the good work.
Please though, although I don’t want this, TAKE A BREAK IF YOU NEED IT.
you should do a review on top gun demo for the damn ps3 even tho the piece of shit is repairing or megaman 10 you go backwards like that shit in batman but its a decent game and i also herd a rumor about a new wii console or system thats on its way so im guessing thats why there isnt alot of games for the damn wii even tho its a cool console so i expect it to be decent
That’s really unfortunate to hear. I would have liked to have the whole show on DVD, but if this is how they went about it… blah. It’s a real shame, really. I still want that Real Ghostbusters set though.
being a big TMNT fan myself that half a year ago watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE from both series and the movie forever, love the 4th wall breaking in the old one.
I was wondering what u think about my video here, just a short little thing.
the 2003 series is done by 4Kids, one of the WORST companies ever for DVD releases. I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that they made such a jumbled mess of it. Though they probably stopped making the DVDs because the company went bankrupt.
They should leave it to publishers that can actually care for the product and are able to release the box sets with the effort and respect they deserved. Those people that released the DVDs should be a manual about how NOT TO publish DVDs on cartoon series such as TMNT.
Curiously enough, I actually owned one of the VHS casettes titled ‘Super Rocksteady and Super Beebop’ in which Krang made robotic versions of Beep and Rocksteady that were more competent. Of course, this ended more or less how you expect.
Looks like you learned what anime fans have known for sometime already, that is, 4kids sucks monkey balls.
They do in-comprehensible edits to the anime’s, and most of their dubbing isn’t all that good any way.
So, if possible, try to stay away from them. I’m not sure who owns the rights to the original series, but i think 4Kids owns the rights to the new series, and, well, you see where that led to…
And they say you gain nothing from pirating. HAH!
When DVDs get confusing, get canceled, or just end up going the wrong way, torrents may just be the future.
For the TMNT 2003 series volume stuff, that is getting to be a problem, where they have about 4 episodes a volume, mainly in anime (Yes, anime fan who bash 4kids at any opportunity, its not just them). Stuff like this and Bakugan, and many other series have releases of 4 episodes for like $20, a rip off. I get it when it happened on VHS, since the tapes can hold up so much, depending on the VHS.
There’s, of course, no excuse for missing episodes, but are you sure the episodes you claim are out of order on the DVDs weren’t just aired on TV in the wrong order? Sometimes it’s the TV networks that drop the ball and air episodes in the incorrect order. There are plenty of cartoon TV series where the order of the episodes doesn’t matter as much because at end of each episode everything is the same as it was at the beginning of the episode. It could very well be that the DVDs were their chance to set the record straight on the order of the episodes.
When I watch this kind of mess I think:
“They should release all the series on standard definition on a couple of BluRay discs.”…. That would be useful even without HD.
Yeah 4kids is horrible, but no its not worse than LJN its just the LJN of today. You see they did this with all thier shows they even started releasing un-cut Yugioh but stopped after like the 12th episode or so because the DVD sells werent enough for them so they just stopped. Case and point with the final release of the Turtles series. Probably didn’t meet thier sell quota so they said hell with it let’s move onto something else that can make us the money screw making the fan base happy we just want money.
That’s why downloading the episodes and then making your own DVD’s with the chapters in order and by season is better.
You may say that piracy is wrong, but i think it’s worse to sell DVDs with 4 episodes each, making you waste more money than you should. That’s stealing.
At least with Anime there usually exists some form of DVD packs that include the whole series, and more often than not they come with cool extra content, ya know like DVDs SHOULD HAVE
No comment of the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation? The numbering for those DVDs is whack too! They released the first eight episodes on Volume 1, but then they re-release the first five on a DVD called Volume 2!?
Fortunately for me, I was able to obtain the entire series from a source at Network Ten so I need not worry about numbering problems.
Wow i had no idea there where so many episodes of TNMT.. i live in Europe and remember watching it as a kid in the mid ’90′s and there we only got about 2 or 3 seasons in total… fking reruns till you got sick off TMNT. If I’m able to get some of the newer seasons on dvd for cheap i won’t hesitate to purchase them.
Awsome review James, don’t you sometimes think how big company’s can f*ck up that much with something this big?
I’m pretty sure this is the wrong place to ask my following question, but I have no idea where to post it instead, so here it goes.
This site has been on my bookmarks list for ages now, but today I suddenly noticed the little site’s logo that accompanies the link has disappeared.
It’s the only link it happened to, I use Chrome, but other browsers I tried didn’t solve this aesthetic problem. Am I the only one?
I’m aware this is a very trifle issue, but I like to have my bookmarks nice and clean.
$5 says there’s already a bootlegger on ebay who has the last two seasons & burned all the episodes in order, 13 episodes to a disc.
& my question to him would be “do you have Samurai Pizza cats & Legends of Fantasy Island, because only a few episodes were ever officially released.”
There’s also 60 places in the world where English is spoken that if this series was distributed there can still be gotten used on VHS if not on DVD.
Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Grenadines, Bahamas, Trinidad, Tobago, United States,
Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, the Gambia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, India, Ireland, Malta, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu & Vanuatu.
I was actually looking at these damn discs on Amazon and I was thinking it was pretty retarded how it was all over the place. I’m glad to see this video… It should have been on ‘You know whats bullshit’. Great stuff man.
Inspector Gadget on DVD is the last thing you want man! He would drone on about every little detail of the screen and talk about the buttons and shit lol.
Maybe Time Life will get hold of the rights in a few years and do it right. The Real Ghostbusters box set is the nicest I think I’ve ever seen for an 80s TV show and even with the price tag, is still great value for money.
Awesome stuff James. I think you should do this for Godzilla DVDs and and such..because I was awfully confused when trying to collect them all and where and how they were released.
I actually did an epic 5-part video series on this very subject about 3 years ago on my Zaranyzerak YouTube channel. Good job summing up the subject in under 8 minutes! The biggest pain is now all of these sets are in limbo with several seasons of BOTH series’ left unreleased… Thanks, Nickelodeon!
I might be wrong, but I think a lot of the mess of the DVD’s is from that 4kids went under, and got bought out, and with the earlier stuff, where CBS(at least in the US), still has some rights to the show. I’m not sure who truly owns the rights to the Turtles anymore, that is if anyone company does even. LOL!! good review btw, and keep up the good work.
commodorefan64 – Nickeloden owns the entire TMNT franchise now, lock stock and barrel. They bought out all the rights from Mirage Studios a couple of years ago. Comics, cartoons old and new, the whole works. So it’s now up to them whether or not we see the rest of it on DVD…and judging from the shitty treatment they gave Turtles Forever on DVD, I’m not optimistic about it…

Love these Turtle Tuesdays! Awesome job, James! Love you!
April 26, 2011 at 1:08 am
I was just thinking about buying the series on DVD so this was bizarrely well time!
Thanks, James!

wow 1:15 a.m. and i’m reaaallly bored! Now i have something to watch lol!
April 26, 2011 at 1:18 am
Why do Mike Matei and MotherFucker Mike have two separate accounts?
April 26, 2011 at 1:19 am
Interesting watch. Love all your Chronologically Confused videos.
Thanks for the video.
April 26, 2011 at 1:27 am
Thats why piracy and torrents are exists.
Because fans more care about this shows.
April 26, 2011 at 1:32 am
lol! this drives me nuts! i have them all so far and the series on dvd is fucked. i’m still waiting for 9 and 10. great video!

Apparently even the Animaniacs was incomplete.

Great video James!
April 26, 2011 at 2:59 am
I’m really loving this Turtle Tuesday series. Gives me something to look forward to watching on Tuesdays! Especially since I am as big of a turtles fan as you are James! Thank you! Keep up the great work!

April 26, 2011 at 3:59 am
So, James has the DVD’s of the new show? I always thought he wouldn’t care enough about the newer, darker show because it was nothing like the original. I wonder what he thinks about it, and hope that he mentions it and talks about it a bit in his ‘TMNT series review’.
April 26, 2011 at 4:11 am
They never finished releasing DVD’s for either series? Man, that’s bullshit. So much bullshit it deserves it’s own You Know What’s Bullshit episode. They did the same shit to so many awesome shows, like Pete and Pete. Jesus, stuff like that just pisses me off!
Keep up the good work though. I love these videos, and was expecting a part 2 of the original series review, but I love all of your Chronologically Confused vids as well.
April 26, 2011 at 4:12 am
In reference to the Region 1 original series DVDs, I haven’t bought any because of how messed up the release, I’m hoping in the next few years, Lionsgate home entertainment releases them all in a complete series box set, I’m not holding my breath, but they might as well this point.
April 26, 2011 at 4:48 am
You’re so true here James
I own a Box Set DVD with the classic cartoons but they are mixed up episodes from diffrent seasons so once i pop in Disc 2 and Dr. Baxter where already the fly and i was like “ehh ok shouldn’t he be baxter first” and then at disc 3 he his baxter that turns into the fly and the funny part is that on the DVd it said “DISC 3″ etc.
So they even fucked up on the DVD Box Set but it’s a nice DVD i must say but please get them in right order!
April 26, 2011 at 4:50 am
I have most of the episodes from the 2003 series. But the one from the 80′s that I grew up with cannot be found on DVD here in Sweden (believe me, I’ve looked long and hard)! I’ve only found some on VHS, but hey! is it really that hard to release the entire thing??? I thought I was just dumb or something, but if they haven’t released the whole thing in the US then I guess I’m out of luck finding it i swedish… Drat.
Thanks for this vid, James. You just made my Tuesday! (^.^)
April 26, 2011 at 5:12 am
Wow, that’s bullshit. Regular TV shows get seasonal DVD sets as a standard, why is it so much more difficult to do the same for cartoons?
April 26, 2011 at 6:26 am
do you wanna know the best think about ALL THIS DVD MESS they made during all that …THEY GOT HEAVILY PAIDTO DO THAT..YEAP
April 26, 2011 at 6:31 am
It’s gotta be a licensing issue. James, are all of those DVD’s produced by the same company, or are there several companies involves? I’d be curious to know.
Maybe, if the 2012 rumored movie happens now that Bay has the rights, they’ll start bringing out solid season-long sets to coincide with it. We shall see.
April 26, 2011 at 6:38 am
Holy shit talk about irony. Just yesterday I finally got fed up trying to navigate these fucking things in order and determined something had to be done. So I took it upon myself to start re-authoring and burning new discs in common sense chronological order. No more of this bullshit.
Totally 100% agree with everything said. They fucked it all up and then some.
April 26, 2011 at 6:53 am
Woooow…
April 26, 2011 at 7:10 am
Hey James, here in Germany they’re releasing the Turtles in chronological order with german and english dub. There are already 3 volumes with 80 episodes, if you’re interested, just search for the ninja turtles on amazon.de or a similiar website.
April 26, 2011 at 7:30 am
Krang: What’s your name?
Kid: It’s Bobby.
Krang: Who cares?
Lol
April 26, 2011 at 7:51 am
This is disgusting behavior. They are giving really a big finger to the fans. How hard is it really to release them in order?
Things like these really justifies piracy.
April 26, 2011 at 8:25 am
Yo James, i’ve made a website to keep track of the series you watch. (TMNT is on there) thought you might like it: http://www.trackmyeps.com/series/Teenage%20Mutant%20Ninja%20Turtles%20(1987)_445.html
April 26, 2011 at 8:38 am
You think that’s bad? In the UK we only got a 25th anniversary set containing the first 2 seasons of the and 3 of those annoying random episode collections of the ’87 show. Also we only got the first 7 volumes of the ’03 series and the Turtles Forever special. The UK is treated like crap when it comes to cartoon box sets. No Animaniacs, no Justice League, no Tiny Toons adventures, no GI Joe. I think the only US cartoon to be fully released was the 80s Transformers.
April 26, 2011 at 8:47 am
Season one was originally released on VHS tapes that you got at Burger King whenever you’d buy a kid’s meal. I remember I accidentally broke one of my little brother’s tapes, and I went around to about four different Burger Kings buying kid meals trying to replace that tape.
April 26, 2011 at 9:28 am
Also, Turtles Forever DVD contains the TV edit, not the uncut version, and is NON-ANAMORPHIC widescreen.
http://tmnt.wikia.com/wiki/Turtles_Forever
April 26, 2011 at 9:37 am
More reason to take the DVD’s, rip them to bluray or your computer in the proper order. So stupid!
April 26, 2011 at 10:10 am
Yeah, I hate when DVD’s pull that crap. It reminds me of how lazy Fox gets with the Family Guy DVDs (before I shipped mine off to the Exchange). Volumes 1 & 2 were the first 3 seasons combined into two 4-disc sets each. Then when the show was renewed, they got lazy. We only fragments of seasons spread out onto as many discs as possible.
April 26, 2011 at 10:28 am
Oh James, always trying to make sense of something so chaotic. I love you man.
April 26, 2011 at 10:43 am
i love the 2003 tmnt series i was brought up on them at least u have all the episodes in region 1 region 2 only has like 2 seasons i was pissed i only wanted the first 5 seasons before they went to the future thats when it went shit, why is it so hard to release programs as seasons lol also james you moaned about the theme song on the dvd menu every tv program dvd has the theme song on the menu lol
April 26, 2011 at 10:51 am
Well, I’ve got explanations for all of James’s questions. Why do they release it like that? Simple:
The majority of TMNT watchers are kids aged 6-14, maybe a little older. The majority of the DVD buyers are the same age group. And most of them don’t give a fuck about what season they’re watching or what episode. And none of them trying to find out if some episodes are missing or not. They want to watch cartoons, they pop the DVD into player and watch cartoons, and doesn’t care which season or episode it is.
April 26, 2011 at 11:38 am
Nicely done.
April 26, 2011 at 12:08 pm
Anyway, good review.
April 26, 2011 at 12:10 pm
Oh…my…god! what the hell is wrong with these poeple who makes these dvd’s. seriusly, that is the most fucked up dvd production i have ever seen
April 26, 2011 at 12:20 pm
Well here in the UK we haven’t really received our original TMNT DVD stuff yet and so here is what they have come up with so far.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Teenage-Mutant-Turtles-Anniversary-Special/dp/B001TJKVWS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303837313&sr=8-1
Just like your Season 1 set, this too comes with some Season 10 episodes as well as all the episodes from Season 2. The probable reason why we have these extra episodes is because the first season was too short. Well at least it’s not called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. :p
April 26, 2011 at 12:49 pm
Yeah that’s pretty messy. What is it about the nature of TV shows that makes it hard to compile them?
Anyway, I’ve noticed even a Family Guy episodes are getting a little confusing (at least on Netflix). Netflix keeps reordering how you access each one, and on the iPhone, it lists the family guy special 100th episode as episode 102.
April 26, 2011 at 12:56 pm
I hope we get 2003 TMNT videos down the line by James as well. Next Mutation is a terrible a series but it deserves a mention as well.
I never tried to collect the DVDs for either series because I knew episodes were missing and jumbled up. Hopefully Nick/Viacom will fix this mess. At least the new series in 2012 will learn from these past mistakes.
I still want the true Turtles Forever version to be released not the cut for TV air one.
April 26, 2011 at 1:20 pm
thats why i stopped at Season 2. when i realized what they were doing with the VOLUMES, i just went and downloaded the seasons off the internet. some were DVD rips while others had the missing episodes taped off tv during its first airings.
im hoping one day they will release each season as a bluray set or all together as one complete set with all 10 seasons packaged together.
never cared for the 2003 series so my only interest is with the original series.
April 26, 2011 at 1:34 pm
Wow! Good thing we can watch them all on youtube in horrible quality for free!
April 26, 2011 at 1:50 pm
Lol. I remember 4kids used to release Yu-Gi-Oh DVDs like the 2003 TMNT ones. 4 episodes per disk. -_- I wish they’d release the 2003 TMNT show on a boxset or put it on Netflix or something.
April 26, 2011 at 1:55 pm
At least you get most of the seasons in the US, here in the UK we only get one box set with seasons one and two on it, plus four episodes from season 10 (except for a cheaper set with just three episodes on, which are probably from season 1 as well)
April 26, 2011 at 2:02 pm
Good video James season 7 Back to the sewers was released in Australia on 2 dvds actually.
I have managed to get almost all the north american dvds but it is a pain in the ass and you are right some are hard to track down. I think it was early when dvds had just come out they were still putting some of the episodes on vhs maybe that has something to do with the low amount of episodes on early dvds.
I’m glad you got the 2k3 series I look forward to a possible review I am a big fan of it =)
April 26, 2011 at 2:24 pm
Could you do a video about those stupid-ass and inefficient green econo-cases with the recycle symbol cut out of the DVD case?
April 26, 2011 at 2:40 pm
Wow that’s crazy didn’t really know alot of the episodes were missing and mixed up well now that Nickelodeon Owns the rights to TMNT except the 1987 turtles maybe Nickelodeon will get it right and make a boxset of the TMNT 2003 complete Seasons if they can get the rights to the 1987 one’s maybe they will do the same and make a boxset with all the episodes in the right seasons guess we have to wait and see Good Video James.
April 26, 2011 at 2:40 pm
I have always hated them being released in volumes were a season or series is punched out in just a few episodes a DVDs and released separately i refuse to buy any Anime, Cartoon, TV show, or such things if the whole season or series is not in a nice set all episodes of the time frame in just a few DVDs. The Nerd DVDs for example are nice, simple and clean so great job there James!
April 26, 2011 at 2:46 pm
April 26, 2011 at 2:46 pm
The cover arts for the DVDs are really shitty… This collection is bad. Really bad it doesn’t worth the money and time.
April 26, 2011 at 2:47 pm
I wish there was a way to watch or download all of the episodes online legally. It would solve the entire problem!
April 26, 2011 at 3:27 pm
They were planing on release a 4 volume set, each case was supposedly made of tin and had each turtles face on it. Each tin was to contain 48 episodes with the last one containing 49 episodes, sadly not enough interest was present so they were never made.
April 26, 2011 at 3:34 pm
April 26, 2011 at 3:40 pm
I love the tutles as simon and garfunkle say unlike Shredder, they bring joy joy joy joy joy to my world.
http://vizzed.com/vizzedboard/retrotoons/index.php?show=13
no BOOM! here just watch the Turtles for free and if you notice also paly the Nintendo NErD games for free.
no spammer quotes Simon and Garfunkle.
I love the Turtles – long live James, and I want his babies as soon as he shaves off that chin wa%k beard
April 26, 2011 at 4:10 pm
Ugh…you know what the problem is?
Look in the upper corner: See that 4Kids logo?
That unholy stamp of fail is the whole problem. 4Kids in the cartoon equivalent of movie games on the NES by LJN.
…Yes. They’re THAT bad.
April 26, 2011 at 4:40 pm
Oh god, that last season 8 dvd even has that recycle safe print out, i hate those dvd’s, they can get holes in them pretty fast if you grab at them to hard.
April 26, 2011 at 4:53 pm
I have the first two seasons of the original show. After that I just never got around to buying the rest, but seeing shit like this just pushes me toward getting it off Bittorrent. I gladly pay for content, my DVD collection is fairly huge, but they need to make it easy to understand what I’m buying. Seriously, it isn’t that fucking hard.
April 26, 2011 at 5:01 pm
wow i didnt realize the order is so fucked up. i wanted to buy the series but i guess ill stick to the internet for the episodes. maybe someday they’ll release them in 2 box sets with every season and every episode in perfect order. is that to much to ask?
April 26, 2011 at 5:04 pm
From my understanding the entire franchise got bought out by Nickelodeon, might explain why they never finished releasing either series
April 26, 2011 at 5:04 pm
You should do a video if you are trying to collect all the looney toons! Its fuckin hard
April 26, 2011 at 5:13 pm
Yeah that sucks, man. I really hate when dvd or video game companies screw up the order or don’t give you everything to the season or series. I’m actually kind of mad with a similar thing like this. I bought a Metal Gear Solid package for MGS1-3. It didn’t come with a bonus disc that can play the original Japanese version of MGS, from what I know from researching. Anyway, thanks for posting this it is really appreciated. Been looking forward to TMNT Tuesdays today.
April 26, 2011 at 5:42 pm
Maybe it will get fixed for the blu-ray release. (like that will ever happen)
April 26, 2011 at 5:42 pm
I would love to see James talk about the recent Generation 1 Transformers DVD sets as an example of a DVD release done right.
April 26, 2011 at 5:52 pm
Thank you James for calling out these morons. Your review brought back a lot of angry, confused memories.
Now that Viacom is going to be pushing their own version of the TMNT soon, don’t expect The 1980s or 2000′s TMNT on DVD any time soon. Thank goodness for BitTorrent, eh?
BTW, the Turtles forever DVD is also messed up; it’s edited and in non-anamorphic widescreen.
April 26, 2011 at 6:07 pm
Is there going to be a TMNT retrospective part 2 video today?
April 26, 2011 at 6:08 pm
I think the reason they put the first episode of the next season on the season 3 and 4 DVD’s is because those seasons ended on cliffhangers, both involving Krang and Shredder finally getting the Technodrome powered up and on the attack the turtles finding a way to defeat them and get it stuck somewhere at the beginning of the next season.
Those were some of my favorite episodes too.
April 26, 2011 at 6:08 pm
I hate when they start releasing a tv show on dvd and don’t finish it.
It happend with Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers, Gargoyles, Gummi Bears, and Silverhawks.
IT also sucks when they don’t put the episodes in proper order.
Lionsgate released the entire Rambo cartoon show on 6 dvd volumes, but the episodes are jumble around in seemingly ramdom order. The first five episodes are a five part series, but volume one only has the third part on it. Why the hell did they have to release them this way?
April 26, 2011 at 6:41 pm
I’m interested in what James thinks of the 25th anniversary Turtles movie box sets. There is the DVD version with a plastic sewer grating case and a Bluray version with a cardboard case.
April 26, 2011 at 6:44 pm
I wouldn’t worry about missing seasons 9 and 10 of the original series. Almost everyone stopped watching during season 4, and literally everyone stopped watching during season 8. Plus, 9 and 10 are weird. 9 is the one that went way to far trying to be edgy, and 10 is the one that went way too far in the opposite direction.
April 26, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Awwwww James, was looking forward to the TMNT cartoon series review Part 2 today. Oh well, good video anyway.
April 26, 2011 at 7:22 pm
At least with some live action TV shows, they know how to be consistent but why not the cartoons too? Do they think that we adults don’t feel nostalgic enough for something like Ninja Turtles.
At least with Ren & Stimpy, you get every episode of seasons 1-5 on three boxsets. Some of the episodes aren’t entirely uncut but it’s a minor gripe I can get over.
April 26, 2011 at 7:31 pm
my guess is they probably had to do weird episode stacking in order to fit them in the least amount of physical DVDs as possible.
April 26, 2011 at 7:36 pm
Oy! what a load of croc dung, this sucks really really bad., glad I didn’t spend my money on it yet or ask people to buy the things for me, the people who released these things on dvds are dumber than beebop and rocksteady combined!
April 26, 2011 at 8:21 pm
They really screwed up on BOTH Ninja Turtles series on DVD, didn’t they? I hope they won’t act this way when they deside to put them on Blu-Ray.
BTW, James, I thought of a good concept for a chronologically confused video: the Universal Monsters films, particularly the Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolf Man films.
April 26, 2011 at 8:41 pm
I’ve never understood why they are so inconsistent when it comes to cartoon series dvds. Modern cartoons especially, they love to release only a few episodes at a time on a disc instead of just waiting to release the whole season. Do they think kids don’t have enough of an attention span to watch a whole season? Isn’t the point that you can only watch one episode at a time whenever you want? What about us adults that like cartoons too? They’re just ripping us off.
April 26, 2011 at 8:52 pm
Preach it sista’ James.
What a fuckin’ shit-fest nightmare. No one plans ahead.
April 26, 2011 at 10:02 pm
look at it this way at least its not as clusterfucked as power rangers and pokemon and at least they were relesed unlike digimon
April 26, 2011 at 10:15 pm
i am a fan of the 2003 version and the reason why i think 4kids didnt release them correctly is because of how they think… by what i mean is that how they think they need to change every thing… and how they think that by them doing that they will get populer…. and when they knew that they had a hit on there hands they must have thought “duh… which way should we release this show? oh i got it! how about we make it a big cluserfuck for the fans so that way they will watch more of our product!”
April 26, 2011 at 11:29 pm
April 26, 2011 at 11:42 pm
haha whatabuncha SHELL SHIT !
April 27, 2011 at 12:05 am
you should do a review on top gun demo for the damn ps3 even tho the piece of shit is repairing or megaman 10 you go backwards like that shit in batman but its a decent game and i also herd a rumor about a new wii console or system thats on its way so im guessing thats why there isnt alot of games for the damn wii even tho its a cool console so i expect it to be decent
April 27, 2011 at 12:24 am
James, seriously, stop hording stuff on shelves and learn to torrent. You could probably find those missing episodes too.
April 27, 2011 at 1:07 am
That’s really unfortunate to hear. I would have liked to have the whole show on DVD, but if this is how they went about it… blah. It’s a real shame, really. I still want that Real Ghostbusters set though.
April 27, 2011 at 1:15 am
being a big TMNT fan myself that half a year ago watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE from both series and the movie forever, love the 4th wall breaking in the old one.
I was wondering what u think about my video here, just a short little thing.
Hero’s End TMNT Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles LEGO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtUunAIJKQs
please have a look and leave me a comment, it’s just a silly little thing
love the videos from u guys and screw attack, keep going!
April 27, 2011 at 4:23 am
Good video! Now i know that i should not try to collect all tmnt dvds! : D
April 27, 2011 at 8:25 am
HAHA LOL confusing shit!!!
April 27, 2011 at 9:52 am
How they can fuck that kind of stuff that bad ???????? Holy shit eaven i would be better at that xD
April 27, 2011 at 10:24 am
Wow,. I’m glad that I didn’t waste my money on the TMNT sets.
James, I have an idea for another Chronologically Confused video: the Rocky timeline.
April 27, 2011 at 11:09 am
the 2003 series is done by 4Kids, one of the WORST companies ever for DVD releases. I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that they made such a jumbled mess of it. Though they probably stopped making the DVDs because the company went bankrupt.
April 27, 2011 at 11:21 am
they just need to release a blu ray with them all on
April 27, 2011 at 12:07 pm
They should leave it to publishers that can actually care for the product and are able to release the box sets with the effort and respect they deserved. Those people that released the DVDs should be a manual about how NOT TO publish DVDs on cartoon series such as TMNT.
Curiously enough, I actually owned one of the VHS casettes titled ‘Super Rocksteady and Super Beebop’ in which Krang made robotic versions of Beep and Rocksteady that were more competent. Of course, this ended more or less how you expect.
April 27, 2011 at 1:36 pm
You ask me, some one needs to call Shout Factory and get them to do it.
April 27, 2011 at 1:41 pm
I guess even if i had these on DVD i would probably try to find a torrent for the complete series, then at least I’d have it in order ^_^
April 27, 2011 at 1:57 pm
Looks like you learned what anime fans have known for sometime already, that is, 4kids sucks monkey balls.
They do in-comprehensible edits to the anime’s, and most of their dubbing isn’t all that good any way.
So, if possible, try to stay away from them. I’m not sure who owns the rights to the original series, but i think 4Kids owns the rights to the new series, and, well, you see where that led to…
April 27, 2011 at 3:47 pm
4kids- worse than LJN itself
April 27, 2011 at 3:50 pm
maybe they were high…
April 27, 2011 at 5:10 pm
And they say you gain nothing from pirating. HAH!
When DVDs get confusing, get canceled, or just end up going the wrong way, torrents may just be the future.
To quote a song: “Warez the Future”
April 27, 2011 at 5:10 pm
For the TMNT 2003 series volume stuff, that is getting to be a problem, where they have about 4 episodes a volume, mainly in anime (Yes, anime fan who bash 4kids at any opportunity, its not just them). Stuff like this and Bakugan, and many other series have releases of 4 episodes for like $20, a rip off. I get it when it happened on VHS, since the tapes can hold up so much, depending on the VHS.
April 27, 2011 at 5:58 pm
There’s, of course, no excuse for missing episodes, but are you sure the episodes you claim are out of order on the DVDs weren’t just aired on TV in the wrong order? Sometimes it’s the TV networks that drop the ball and air episodes in the incorrect order. There are plenty of cartoon TV series where the order of the episodes doesn’t matter as much because at end of each episode everything is the same as it was at the beginning of the episode. It could very well be that the DVDs were their chance to set the record straight on the order of the episodes.
April 27, 2011 at 6:30 pm
When I watch this kind of mess I think:
“They should release all the series on standard definition on a couple of BluRay discs.”…. That would be useful even without HD.
April 27, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Yeah 4kids is horrible, but no its not worse than LJN its just the LJN of today. You see they did this with all thier shows they even started releasing un-cut Yugioh but stopped after like the 12th episode or so because the DVD sells werent enough for them so they just stopped. Case and point with the final release of the Turtles series. Probably didn’t meet thier sell quota so they said hell with it let’s move onto something else that can make us the money screw making the fan base happy we just want money.
April 27, 2011 at 8:00 pm
That’s why downloading the episodes and then making your own DVD’s with the chapters in order and by season is better.
You may say that piracy is wrong, but i think it’s worse to sell DVDs with 4 episodes each, making you waste more money than you should. That’s stealing.
April 27, 2011 at 11:11 pm
At least with Anime there usually exists some form of DVD packs that include the whole series, and more often than not they come with cool extra content, ya know like DVDs SHOULD HAVE
April 27, 2011 at 11:44 pm
Too many cooks in the kitchen.
April 28, 2011 at 12:38 am
No comment of the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation? The numbering for those DVDs is whack too! They released the first eight episodes on Volume 1, but then they re-release the first five on a DVD called Volume 2!?
Fortunately for me, I was able to obtain the entire series from a source at Network Ten so I need not worry about numbering problems.
April 28, 2011 at 7:08 am
You said “season” 54 times…
April 28, 2011 at 7:10 am
well now i dont feel too bad that i only have the first three dvds its ben so hard to find the rest now it will be a little easyer than u jamies
April 28, 2011 at 10:55 am

I got issues…

Please… Ditch the advertising. Or at least make them shorter.

They also keep re-releasing the dvd of the ninja turtles movies but no special features which is a waste.

I was actually looking at these damn discs on Amazon and I was thinking it was pretty retarded how it was all over the place. I’m glad to see this video… It should have been on ‘You know whats bullshit’. Great stuff man.

@MotherFucker Mike

What a mess!

Zaranyzerak, hey there! Didn’t expect to see you here, haha. I have been following you on youtube for quite some time.
Also, I do agree with Mr. Yellow, the Godzilla ones were awful aswell
