Over Analyzers has a high production value in terms of camera work. But the thing I like about your videos is the innocent kids room type of atmosphere. It’s like going to a friends house and hanging out. Like what you did with that Inspector Gadget DVD video. That was great. The way this is shot doesn’t give that “friends house” feeling at all and makes it unappealing to me.
I do think getting more people into your videos from time to time is a great idea and hope to see more of that. For example, when you had the Glitch Gremlin and the Ninja in the AVGN episodes – that was awesome. I guess it’s just a matter of incorporating people that don’t suck..
This episode is no improvement over the first. Susie still has that awful fake accent, which is totally unbearable. Lee once again adds nothing. You should put a dummy in his chair and it would do just as good a job. I did get a small laugh out of the part where Mike is talking about blood and eggs exploding from the bunnies chest, I’ll admit, but that was about it.
Most of the stuff you make is great. Loving the Ninja Turtles cartoon reviews. But this Over Analyzers show needs to go. These videos are just plain boring to watch. And at points (mostly with Susie) it’s just annoying.
You are capable of making much better material, as we see so often. What happened to “You Know What’s Bullshit” and “Board James” ? Mr. Bucket was probably my favorite video of yours of all time! And have been waiting to see more of that. But instead we get this junk..
I do like that you try new ideas all the time, sometimes it works, and other times it doesn’t. This unfortunately is a time when it doesn’t. I hope that you’ll stop making this show and focus on other things. Over Analyzers makes me cringe. Sorry. Peace out.

I really enjoy this to be honest. Since the batman one I really wanted to see the next. I find it hilarious, probably because it’s the kind of stupid shit me and my friends talk about, I don’t know, but keep it up. :)

I really like the hen up it’s ass theory, and James’ facial reaction to the idea.

Great stuff. I had this exact conversation last Easter. Some asshole told me eggs represent life blah blah blah, and Easter is about life and the rebirth of JC.

I think the “bunny” is used, because rabbits are always having sex, and that’s how life is created… Through the act of sex.

    April 22, 2011 at 1:33 am

why the the fake accent on that girl?????? is so fucking annoying!!!

  • April 22, 2011 at 1:35 am

Sadly, I’m going to have to agree with Murray.

Look James, I love your stuff. I’ve seen literally everything else you have made and put up here and have been following your work for a couple years now. I admire your work. I still have faith that OA has potential and might get better. The problem I see now is that you guys kind of ignored a lot of what people suggested after the pilot.

There were some really good comments and suggestions after the first show. I know there were also a lot of negative and mean comments–but please try to look past that and focus on the insightful.

For me, the single biggest thing is Susie. Look, you’ve been given the note. Please take it. Your accent is killing me. I just want to fast forward past everything you say. The problem is that it is too distracting because we all know it’s fake. It sticks out and draws the audience out of the show. This is not good. I understand that you are committing to the idea of your character (I get and respect that). PLEASE find a logical way to work your accent out of the character.

I didn’t laugh once watching episode 2. I’m sorry for that. I wish I could say otherwise. Personally the accent just killed it for me. Seems that just as I was getting into the debate the accent came in and pulled me out of the scene and suddenly I was focused on how much I disliked the accent instead of the ideas of the production. Hm.

Great potential. Please listen to your audience. Best of luck.

  • April 22, 2011 at 1:42 am

For a show like this, I don’t think the “characters” work. You’ve basically got Mike acting like himself, but Susie playing a character. It just won’t work unless you pick one or the other.

My feedback is this: Instead of writing scripts and playing characters, just film an improv discussion and try to keep things interesting. Cherry pick the best bits in editing. Things would feel much more natural and the show would attain that ‘hanging out with friends’ type of atmosphere.

though it’s only been two episodes, and i absolutely enjoyed the first one better than the second-i gotta say i adore these, and think it should definitely be kept up. yeah, the accent was a little irritating the first time i heard it, but, who cares, i don’t even notice it now. do whatever you want. i love it.

  • AE4NES

    April 22, 2011 at 2:03 am

I think this show has potential.

Don’t drop it. It’s a good idea. The fact that everyone’s being themselves and then one person is a character is kinda weird though…

If I were you I’d consider making some changes, but don’t give up just yet. I think people are being way too negative.

  • recompile

    April 22, 2011 at 2:04 am

Susie desperately needs to drop that ridiculously bad fake accent. It’s really horrible.

  • bobrod15

    April 22, 2011 at 2:16 am

See, the thing is that I used to do this sort of thing with my buddies too. We’d analyze things like: If 7-11 is open 24-7 then why do they have locks on the doors, or why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways, or why is stuff you put on a boat called cargo and stuff on a car or truck called shipment etc. Those were good times.

With regards to the episode, it’s ok. I don’t know if you need a girl with the accent (god bless ya for trying). But more importantly, I really don’t know if you (other bloggers) need to go 45 lines to make a point.

James, you and your people bust your ass for this and I give you mad props. Keep doing what makes you happy and it will translate into your work.

  • April 22, 2011 at 2:16 am

fake accent chick ruins this series! get rid of her!!!! other than its great…

  • bobrod15

    April 22, 2011 at 2:17 am

All in all. ITS THE 2ND EPISODE PEOPLE!!!! Relax.
    Keep on rockin on James!!!

  • April 22, 2011 at 2:17 am

Still loving the idea. I agree with many posters here- the basement atmosphere of AVGN is great, though I enjoy this other, more formal way. You guys go through topics in such a way I would have never thought of, but it fits it perfectly with you guys. I still think the accent is something to take the focus off, it is particularly jarring. Something I haven’t seen mentioned, is that not everyone is providing equal input. I can’t remember the guy to the right of James even saying anything.

To note to other fan comments, however, remember that these videos were shot nearly all at once- do not expect any of our fan criticism to be useful for quite awhile.

  • toxikhiro

    April 22, 2011 at 2:27 am

Since we’re all giving notes, apparently…

Mike? Perfect, as always. What more can I say? I would happily buy you a beer were I to run into you.

James, I’d actually like to see your character take a more active role in these. It seems like you’ll just kind of come in and say, “Hey, so what’s the deal with this?” and then as people come up with ideas, you’ll just restate their ideas, like, “So, it happens this way?” Your brilliance is not merely in directing conversations, but also in the active participation thereof. Let’s see you tear some ideas apart! Let’s see you ask some of those skeptical questions! You’re great at this stuff, so why deny it to us?

As to the blond guy, whose name I can’t remember (not out of anything he’s doing wrong, but just because I forgot his name), he’s good. coming up with ideas, asking questions, etc. I’d just like to see his ‘character-ness’ turned up about 150% so that he’s really more than just another person sitting in a chair.

Which brings me to Lee: Lee, you gotta do something! If you’re a friend of James and Mike, I have no doubt you’re a creative, funny person. Let’s see you bring it out!

Susie: You really, really need to lose that accent. Your acting is good. Your character is great. That accent is bad. In fact, it actively detracts from the interest I would like to give you, because bad russian accents are so painful to hear that I subconsciously tune out your lines. Understand, I’m not trying to be mean. But as a viewer, I’ll tell you; that accent is the only part of this show that I don’t like. You don’t need it to be interesting. You already are!

As far as the easter bunny is concerned, I had never thought that we’re eating his/her eggs…what a stupid method of reproduction!

If there were any non-fictional species of animal which laid eggs that were (a) very colorful (b) particularly delectable to children and (c) hidden no lower than five feet above the ground–where youngsters can find them without too much trouble–I see no way that species wouldn’t be extinct. Period.

The reason you never see Easter Bunnies is that they’re endangered! We keep eating their unborn young!!

Anyway, love the show. Just needs a few tweaks and then it will really hit its stride, I have no doubt.

I enjoyed the pilot pretty much, it made me laugh hard several times. But this second episode wasn’t so good. The “meaning of BADASS” video has the same idea of over analysing and it was much more funny. I have to admit though, that I like to see the faces and laughs of you people when you hear the crazy theories.

What’s with everyone hating on this show? I think it’s awesome! Lee, you’re boring though. You gotta contribute something man! Overall, good stuff.

  • April 22, 2011 at 2:52 am

Love your stuff but this show doesn’t seem to be that great. Normally I don’t even make comments but I just think this is kind of a waste of talent and I agree with the first post. I like a lot of the new stuff you put out but I think borad james and You know whats bullshit deserve more attention. And that ain’t Bullshit

  • handsome pete

    April 22, 2011 at 2:54 am

I know the answer. You know how a lot of people wonder how Santa delivers toys to all the Christmas-celebrating houses around the world, and they assume he’s going around Earth at warp speed? A much more logical conclusion would be that there’s a bunch of Santas, and they’re just deliverymen. But since he’s the one they see, and no one ever sees two at once, they think there’s just one and he’s the boss of the holiday. And the Easter Bunny is the same deal, there’s a lot of them and they deliver the chocolate in baskets, so people make the same mistake. So who is the actual boss of Easter and Christmas? Jesus, of course. I don’t know who makes the chocolate though, maybe it’s the 12 disciples.

I only meant the 45 lines in jest but lo and behold, two blogs later, someone goes 40 some odd lines to make a point!!!!! That’s just real funny to me. I’m probably alone on this one, but I’m amazed at how people really get into this blogging stuff. Sorry, I’m just a newb/noob when it comes to this stuff :P. I wonder, is it newb like newbie or noob like noob saibot (who’s fuckin badass in the new MK)? And how the F did noob/newb get adopted into our vernacular? That aint food for thought, that’s shit from the food for thought. LOL

  • Reputator

    April 22, 2011 at 3:05 am

It’s just a fact, you want to get into the debate, you want to join in with the group and think about the discussions while being entertained, participating as a viewer would….but then you get that phoney accent. I know part of this is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek and over-the-top but that accent still comes off completely out of place, and jars the viewer right out of the discussion. It draws unwanted attention to itself.

You could even turn it into a joke. One of the characters just yells out “hey, knock it off with the accent, alright? Please?” And she just responds with “oh, yeah, sorry” in a normal voice, and the discussion continues on like normal.

  • venomvscarnage23

    April 22, 2011 at 3:07 am

Registered just so I could add my voice to the others. Lose the fake accent I agree it distracts me from the overall conversation. Aside from that I do think this has potential. Murray at the top said this lacks the “hanging out at a friends house” feel, but I honestly think for me at least that has to do with the fake accent just listening to the audio for the video gives me that “friends house” feel until the accent kicks in.

  • DragonFire1984

    April 22, 2011 at 3:08 am

I’m sorry to say but OA doesn’t work. I have to agree with Murray Ass. All the actors are doing great job but as a whole it doesn’t simply work.

  • JeffJarrett

    April 22, 2011 at 3:13 am

Here’s the thing I don’t understand: James has said numerous times how making feature films is his true passion and AVGN kind of fell into his lap. So why spend time/effort/money on a project none of your fans seemed to be pining for when all that effort could be spent on AVGN, Board James etc or any of the films you’ve been wanting to make? I realize making films and making internet videos are two completely different animals but this just seems like a waste of your awesome talent. I vote you abandon ship on this on ASAP.

    April 22, 2011 at 3:16 am

I enjoyed this one much more than the first seemed to involve the other two a bit more than the first and the accent wasn’t as annoying but still am not a fan of it. I know its her real accent for I read your reply to one of the comments on the first and I’m sorry but still feel its unnecessary other than that loved this episode keep up the good work.

I honestly feel more entertainment can be gleaned from the video’s covering your DVD and NES collections.

  • April 22, 2011 at 3:25 am

    @ Reputator
    I agree–that’s an awesome idea.

Or, how if Susie just up and starts talking in her normal voice and the other people on the show get pissed off and say, ‘What’s up with your fucked up accent!? Stop trying to fake being American.” That’d be hilarious.

To the poster above, James said that Susie’s heritage was Hungarian (I think. Whatever the accent she’s attempting–that’s her heritage). But she doesn’t speak like that irl. We know this because we’ve seen here in a few of the Nerds other projects including the promo to this series and also a couple where a group of friends are sitting in a restaurant chatting up old horror movies. She spoke in a normal American accent in those bits.

    April 22, 2011 at 3:27 am

Haha Mike’s big description made me LOL!
But yeah, sorry for criticizing but the woman’s accent is no good IMO.
Or maybe the accent is okay, but the broken English style of dropping words is what’s distracting.
Either way thanks for the video!

This episode was senseless, but not in a good way. The idea of the show is good, the first episode had a good topic, this one didnt. Get rid of the girl, sorry but she is not either attractive or anything. That blood-red nail polish and fake accent make me sick. the other 2 guys are unnecessary because they dont add up anything useful to the discussion either. Sorry about the asshole comment but im sure an asshole admin will come and delete it anyway as usual hahaha

You are the Angry Video Game Nerd. Stick with it. I think this over analyzer is dumb. You have a good character. I like the game reviews mainly with an occasional review of an old cartoons. Please focus on what you are good at. Do what you know. I feel these analyzer things are separate and do not follow why most people come to this site. Please focus on your expertise. Please forget about this over analyzers videos. You can do better.

    April 22, 2011 at 6:49 am

Maybe you should discuss these kind of topics with random people on the streets in bars or at their homes.

Its just not funny when you do it like this.
It sounds like a bunch 13 year olds who are talking jibberish.

And is the accent really necessary?
As soon as i hear that accent i tune out.
I cant stand it, and it ruins it for me.

I love every thing you do james. The show seems kind of forced.

    My theory:
There is only one bunny that lays eggs, but that one is like a big ass qeen ant, laying thousands of eggs a day(preparing for each year easter) and it has an army of worker bunnies, who paint and decorate the eggs, and there are also deliverer bunnies, who deliver the finished eggs to children:D
    Aint I a fuckin’ stinker? :D

    April 22, 2011 at 6:54 am

The girl’s accent is pretty rough. If she had said the bit about the turducken in her normal voice I probably would have actually laughed. Instead I just felt embarrassed for her and thought about how hard she might be trying to pull off that bad accent. And at the end when I thought that mercy would be given, nope. She comes back again and I can’t focus on the joke. Just that god damn VOICE. Sorry Stephanie, no hard feelings – but why the accent? Who’s idea was it? SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.

Oh and don’t pay attention to people that tell you to not branch out and to stick to one thing like AVGN. Do what you enjoy. And fuck people if they don’t like it.

Board James is hilarious, YKWBS is great, of course AVGN. And I know you said you plan on making more when time permits and all, take your time man. Don’t burn yourself out and just stop. I enjoy your vids too much.

    But that accent though….uhuhuhuughggh

  • Senter

    April 22, 2011 at 6:58 am

Unlike some other people I really liked this. I don’t laugh often watching videos but the way Mike described the whole process made me laugh out loud. I don’t see why people are overly criticising a video that’s about overly criticising. If this is not your cup of tea, too bad. I actually liked this one better than the last one. Keep up the good work.

People, stop trying to ‘speak for all of us’. Just because you don’t like something, it doesn’t mean nobody else does. James has done 101 episodes of the Nerd, and even though they’re all good, it is time for a break from it. James has a lot more to offer than just swearing at games, you guys are just too ignorant and selfish to let him. A lot of you are treating James like he’s Adam West, and are typecasting him as the nerd. You know as well as I do that he has more to give than dressing up in that white shirt all day every day.

Doug Walker has Nostalgia Critic, but people love the other things he does. What makes James so different? And don’t use the fact that NC is still going as an excuse. James is still doing the Nerd show, but he’s put it on hold to make the movie. Do you want him to rush the movie and make it crap? Do you want him to entertain you? Well then, stop acting like jerks and give him a chance to try something new. Let him take this opportunity to put the nerd aside so he can make a great movie of it and still give us other things in between. He’s not a film maker, not a typecast game reviewer.

Seriously, what will happen if he does become a filmmaker or actor some day? Are you gonna keep bullying him into making AVGN when that happens? That’s the most selfish thing I’ve ever heard. You guys need to shape up. Your criticisms aren’t making James or Mike feel any better. No matter how you word your comments, constructive or not, all you’re saying is “All you’re good at is swearing at games and taking dumps on consoles; unless you do that every day, you’re nothing to everyone.” That is completely untrue, because most people like his work.

You call yourselves fans, yet all you do is slag him off every day of the week because he isn’t doing what YOU want. You’re no fans of his. The guy’s got himself a chance to make his lifelong ambitions come true, and all you want to do is destroy his dream just because you want your half hour entertainment each month. If that’s all you see in James, its you guys who have no futures.

James, do not allow yourself to be led astray by these trolls. Keep to the course you’re on and stick to it. You’re dreams will become a reality before long.

Woman come in many sizes, shapes, and flavors. I don’t find the type of voice I would expect to find from Susie, but I am always interested to observe females. I believe females are of interest to other commenters aswell and people focused on her and claim that they want something else. Anytime you fail to appreciate something it is at least your loss.

The point I’m trying to make is I’m going to watch Jame’s videos, because he is excellent at what he does, we are both 30, and have similar views in what is funny or f*cked up. I enjoy Susie’s character and would like people to respect her. If you are unhappy for some reason blaming her doesn’t help.

if this was put together by James, it could be awesome, but clearly as that lame ass intro indicates this is totally NOT something the guys at cinemassacre came up with, it reeks of money grabbing doucheness bullshit, “mike”? who’s “mike”? i only know MOTHER-FUCKER-MIKE!
seriously put just james or motherfucker mike talking about, i dunno, dogs turds for 10 minutes it will be a lot better than this

  • TheOverToe

    April 22, 2011 at 10:13 am

I laughed through pretty much all of this. Keep it up! =D

And to all negative comments. All of your opinions are wrong. Unless they are the same as mine. /joke I love everything James does because his personality seems to be embedded into every single thing he makes and he also seems to touch on things I can identify with or REALLY interesting things that I didn’t know. You can tell he has a genuine passion.

Keep the good work up James. Although… I am having a hard time waiting for ET in the AVGN Movie. Should be awesome. By the way I can make orchestral scores and get them sounding like a real orchestra (Morrowind and Oblivionesque) if you need any dramatic music for your movie =P Would be fun. And free.

Actually I think the “Chicken was implanted in the Easter Bunny’ ass by Satan” then aliens makes more sense. Why? Because it ties into the reason why Easter is celeberated on the day of Jesus’s Rebirth. See Satan created the Easter Bunny AND Santa Claus as marketting tools to get kids and eveyrone else to focus more time on celebrating marketting gimmicks instead of Jesus. Since if you aren’t celebrating Jesus’s Birth or death, the lord looses power since God’s strength is determined now on if people believe in him. It’s the reason god connected the world through his son as a way of ensuring he would still have his power and not eventually start losing it as an immortal. But if god loses power Satan’s army would have a better chance of invader and destroying heaven,. So by giving kids false prophets and altering the meaning of the holiday, Satan’s genius mastermind plan is actually working.

Or it could be like in that South Park “Fantastic Easter Special” episode which I guess is refrenced at the end by Stepheanie and the peeps in the microwave (BTW does Stephanie have an actual accent or is that just something made for this show?).

I really like this idea and everyone in it. It’s awesome because you guys are discussing what everyone’s thinking about, unfortunately though, Susie’s super fake German accent gives me a headache every time i hear it. As Susie opens her mouth to speak, my body tightens and my jaw clinches knowing whats coming. I understand you wanted to try an accent, Susie. But it seems to me you’ve tried. Everyone could tell it was fake from the very first word she spoke in the first “OA”. Susie, please stop the accent. We could really do without. Thank you.

  • April 22, 2011 at 10:58 am

    @ rufflesthesalty

I personally think she’s what’s holding the show back. She doesn’t have any sort of comedy coming from her ever. The fake accent thing just makes her even more annoying. I’m not too fond of the others, either. They just seem bland. The show could be fine with them, but my personal enjoyment (and evidently the enjoyment of other viewers) would come just from James and our favorite Motherfucker.

    April 22, 2011 at 11:08 am

    I dont know…
I don’t think the dislike has anything to do with “The Nerd”, I love The Bullshit series, The Board James series, The Monster Madness Reviews, The Spike Reviews, The Cinemassacre FIlms, but this just seems weaker. I realize it’s going for an unscripted feel, but I never feel like you’re having a realistic conversation. James has said that the idea came from him and Mike having ridiculous conversations, and maybe thats the issue. There’s too many people in the segment, and we don’t know enough about their characters’ quirks to fully understand their humor as we understand James and Mike. And the Russian accent kills any flow because it’s not believable, and by far weakens the sketch the most. However, this is only the second segment, so there’s a ton of room for improvement. ROme wasn’t built in a day, neither was Syracuse.

  • April 22, 2011 at 11:08 am

    ~Sigh

It still comes off as 4 real people having a fun conversation… and one person playing a pointless character.

    How’s this?:

Lose the “zany character” thing, and instead just have a group of friends having a discussion. Your fans like you for you, James. Whether you’re Board James, AVGN, Bullshit Man, or just Phillies favorite son, James Rolfe, we dig you. Why? Because you are frank and honest.

So why not just extend that mindset to this product? No cheesy accents, no prep, just an unscripted conversation?

Just try it for the next one and see how it goes. Call it an experiment, if you will. Just give it a try, ok?

  • bobrod15

I truly enjoy the productions that are made here. Just like the film industry, there are hits and there are misses, but all in all, the work that’s done here is fine work. It makes me laugh on a daily basis and whether I’m watchin AVGN, Board James, OverAnalyzers, or any movie review I enjoy it, I laugh and it gets me through the day.

It don’t matter what’s put out there (AVGN, Board James, Movie Reviews, or whatever) I know I’m gonna laugh my ass off.

Nice episode – great to hear a lot more dialogue from the new people. I also liked that you just went off on crazy tangents and didn’t mention any of the well known stuff about the origins of the holiday – I mean kids eating chocolate turd eggs is a lot more entertaining anyway. ;)

And no mention of Passover from the Jewish guy…lol…I was almost expecting to hear some serious information but then happy that it stayed goofy and fun – thank you for some mid morning laughs!

I think for as many “OMG IT’S NOT AVGN” people as he gets he gets as many “HEY THIS IS FANTASTIC KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK”. Neither really are right. I don’t know if the in-joke of this episode is that they are all fucking stoned, but it sure sounds like it.

I mean the Easter Bunny has always had a BASKET OF EGGS and this episode focuses so heavily on the idea of him(or her) laying eggs that it ends up feeling very scripted. They just worked to the alien’s reference because they thought it was funny and the entire result was very forced. The only funny thing about it was mike freaking out.

    April 22, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I find it interesting all the levels of praise and disgust for James’ videos. I don’t know if you care about my opinion, Mr. Rolfe, but here it is, unapologetic, for better or worse.

I’d recommend Susie drop the accent. Seriously, it’s annoying and adds nothing positive to the experience.

What is up with Lee? Practically speaking, so far he’s done nothing. Like a fifth wheel, or something. “Shit or get off the pot.”

These things have not hit their stride yet. They aren’t clever. They aren’t funny. Have any of y’all taken improv classes before? Because it would appear you’re trying to do an improv show without having much improvising skill.

Also, your intro/outro statements/questions still lack punch when you say them.

I’m not writing off OA completely. I think the idea is good (even if it is being done elsewhere, like Cracked.com). But in it’s current state, the end product falls flat.

  • walkingstickman

    April 22, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Honestly, here’s my criticism on this series:

It’s a ok series that has some potential but it suffers from the early stages of AVGN itself. its flawed yes, but its an interesting idea that just needs adjusting.

The room itself feels like a boring meeting and doesn’t help add to the show and the accents already has driven the entertaining meter to annoyingly dull. Now I’m not saying you should drop some people from the show but the conversation also is just focused mainly on matt and you while the others just adds little or hardly anything to the conversation.

The show itself feels like it should be in a open lab where you analyze all the obscure topics people don’t think about, not in a cramped office room that sounds like you’re trying to write the script of the show.

Other than that, there is some hilarious talk in the show so far but it just needs some major adjustments just like in the early days of AVGN.

Suggestion for topic: Cats or dogs, which are better.

Okay, here’s the deal. This isn’t a theory, this is acold hard scary fact. The Easter Bunny has these workers. These are baby chicks that he likes to call Peeps. He gives them this magic feed that makes them produce eggs at a young age. It’s one of the worst forms of child labors since Santa Clause and his “Elves”. He pays them in those chocolate coins that Jews get, paints them up, then gives them to children. That’s right kiddies, that’s child slave labor you’re hunting for on Easter Day.

I won’t give a detailed critique but I will say this:

    1. I watch a lot of crap.

    3. I’ve been coming to this site regularly for at least two years.

But this…UGH, I couldn’t even make it two minutes. Seriously, this sucks big time James. Please stop wasting time on this garbage, I thought the first episode was bad. [Insert backhanded compliment here]

[Insert 1000th comment about getting rid of the lady's accent or getting rid of her altogether here]

[Insert praise for only Mike and James here]

Seriously, with how much we ALL seem to be in agreement on here about where this show needs improvement, then if these things are not changed or at least tweaked, then it’s probably safe to say that most of these comments aren’t read. Only time will tell.

Oh, also, with all of the negative reception from the first video in regards to the chick and her accent, I cannot see any way in which the ending of this video is justified. These first two episodes have made me chuckle at times and be bored at times, but that ending just pissed me off. Imagine if at the end of Star Wars Episode 3, they interrupted the somber ending with Jar Jar Binks. It would piss you off.

I still think this show would be a hit if it were JUST James and Mike, but bottom line: get rid of the chick’s accent. Talk about out of place.

Also, I forgot to mention earlier that I don’t know if it’s ever really said in any lore if the Easter bunny lays its own eggs. I think it just gets them from a factory. The character is from the Germans. Perhaps he lives in a Willy Wonka factory or something.

    April 22, 2011 at 3:33 pm

    Well here i go!

Is pretty sad that such a good reviewer as James has lots of retarded fans who supports his falls, instead of giving some feedback.

OA is not funny, or clever, or entertaining is just bland and boring, kind of NC or IG Level.

AVGN, the Monster Madness series, MFM Glitches, and reviews like the TMNT, or the Inspector Gadget, are the things that both Mike and James are good at.

However, since 2009 seems like James is losing it, i think he needs some time separated of the AVGN persona, and refresh his ideas.

I know he has the potencial to give something as epic as AVGN.

Not great and not bad. Each person needs to have a turn to talk first then it should open up to everyone to debate what each of them said and go further with it just like you’re doing. It’d be nice if everyone had a distinctive personality like one persons always trying to base the topic on government conspiracy, someone has the common sense rational solution, another is always referring to comic books and movies for their ideas, and whatever else. Just have Stephanie get hit on the head by something in the episode and have her accent disappear. Please.

  • April 22, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Maybe others don’t like it, but I actually enjoy the OA-episodes much. Like, it’s humour, and you guys are making up funny ideas. The same humour is the base of the You Know What’s Bullshit series, only a bit more unleashed. I must say, I laughed my face off during this one.

… You know that feeling you get when you’re talking to a friend on the phone, and it’s all chill at first, but then you reach a wall at that point, but you don’t want to hang up on them! so you start forcing another topic in to break the silence. It’s like someone videotaped this forced conversation with a side dish of bad accent.
If you didn’t read any of the overanalyzing comments from your first episode, then I forgive you for making an even worse one that didn’t produce one chuckle from me– not one. If you at least took some into consideration, then that’s a little hard for others to see– you know, seeing as how this one’s not any better. If you blatantly ignored our advice and hopes for this show’s success, then you know what? That’s just a big slap in the face.
    No. Not even.

I think this is supposed to have that somewhat slap-stick, and dry feel. It’s kind of a good idea, but I am not sure if it’s being presented well enough, and I feel there should be more animation, or movement for the characters; think a room full of generals moving pieces around on a simulated miniature battlefield. The characters just seem so bland that it doesn’t seem presentable. I like where this is going, but I would love to see it evolve into a more animated group of people rather than the sit around a boring table plainly grasping at air.

I would love to see Board James return instead of this. Board James is probably my favorite thing to watch besides the AVGN series. I also love it when James gives us behind the scenes material, or just shows us interesting things that he has collected, or shot.

I have an Idea for the next show well.. your next AVGN video, review the three stooges game (1987) and have those two androids and annoying phony (she can be curly) as cast.. and BEAT the living SHIT outta them!

I think the show itself has a great concept, and I wish it would continue on, but I also do think that it might have worked out better if it were just you and Mike sitting around on the couch.
Then the audience wouldn’t have to take the whole thing seriously, it would just be taken in as light humor…

Anyways, I enjoyed today’s show, so thank you!

    James,

I have no problem with improvisational comedy, and this could be a really good show, there’s just a few kinks you need to work out (as with all new things).

For one, the accented lady has got to go. Seriously. Annoying. Most of us it seems share that opinion. Secondly, even though you might have actors that are very good at improvising, it doesn’t mean they are all funny improvisers. You and Motherfucker Mike do it very well, and making the show without either of you would be a terrible move, but it just might be a good idea to rehearse together and get some funny improvisational exits/entrances together in everyones mind for a better show experience.

Also, a really good move would be to ditch the current theme as it seems kind of gay in a way and go see if you can get a Kyle Justin version with lyrics. You know, “The Over-analyzers, the eggs are really turds, lalala etc…”

    That would be awesome.

Keep it up. IMO this episode was a step down from the first, but you’ll get there, you’ve had no problem doing so in the past. Board James worked out excellently, there’s no reason this shouldn’t.

I made an account purely to say I am loving this. I’m a fan of your films, and of course an AVGN fan, but it’s rare that they would make me laugh as hard as I just have. It helps that Yunas is so pretty it actually makes my teeth ache, so she could do an impression of Jim Varney and it wouldn’t matter.

As a musician, I noticed a trend some time ago. If I played anything new or original, people would tell me it sucked. I’d ignore them, and continue doing what I was doing regardless. Given a month or so, those same people were telling me they enjoyed those songs and I should do them more. O.A is a new thing, and I’m confident that at some point many will say this is a great show. First and foremost, these guys are film makers, so please God stop with the video game junk. It’s just one aspect of Cinemassacre, and this is not JUST Cinemassacre. If the show REALLY pisses you off, simply don’t watch it. It really is that simple. If Yunas was to stop the accent, that would be ridiculous because it’s already part of the character and the series.

Also, if this continues, and ends up on DVD, consider one copy already sold.

“Also, if this continues, and ends up on DVD, consider one copy already sold.”

They’ll probably need more to turn a profit on this.

I don’t think people are criticising this because it’s new. They’re criticising it because it’s bad. For me, it was literally unwatchable. The Batman one was bad too but I powered through it.

I don’t enjoy making these comments. Not because of James, really. I’m sure he can handle it. But everybody in this is bad.

I can identify with the two guys on the left. If I was doing this, I’d be awkward and uncomfortable to watch too. But that’s why I don’t appear in videos.

The girl with the fake accent is also awful. But it’s not just the accent. The very concept is ridiculous. I can envisage the brainstorming session for this. “Even nerds like women. But they have to be obtainable. So let’s find a chick who has a few extra pounds on her. Everybody will say how hot she is. And let’s make her say lot’s of nerd stuff. They’ll eat it up. Oh, and give her a Russian accent for some reason.” It’s just bad.

Mike and James are also terrible. It’s all just really forced.

If I can turn to this particular episode (from what I managed to watch) the very premise was faulty. As others have also mentioned, I never thought of the Easter Bunny as laying eggs (chocolate or otherwise). And chocolate coins? And then a chicken shoved up a rabbit’s ass and the chicken is laying the eggs and Satan put the chicken in the rabbit…right about here is when I turned it off.

This is the sort of stream of conscious idiocy that hyperactive eight year olds come up with. “And then he poops but it’s green poop and then a dog eats it and then they start fighting then a baboon comes out the dog’s butt and you know, baboons have big red butts so there’s probably something up in there too.” Sorry, James. This has not been my idea of comedy in many, many years. Not since I’ve been able to wipe my butt, actually. See what I did there? A butt joke.

Rod telling James ” she has got to go” has to be one of the most inconsiderate things I’ve read.

Granted I don’t like her accent either.
But giving someone orders on a video hes made for fun with his buddys and is sharing with us for free…. Thats a little harsh man.

I say keep Susie, but stop the fake accent. I mean hell, if she stays and keeps the accents why not give everyone a fake one. Mike with a Chinese accent coming in episode 3!!!!!

    April 22, 2011 at 6:13 pm

james, mike, i love you both, gentlemen. ive probably watched every video on the site multiple times and enjoyed them all, or was at least entertained. the concept for this current show your working on though…IN PRINCIPLE is good, but it depends ENTIRELY on a spirited, engaging, funny, and interesting cast of people that have fluid, organic conversation. the current line up is…i dunno…the 2 guys are essentially just there, they dont have personality, and dont really add much at all. I would assume that they are knowledgeable in the subjects you guys plan to discuss, but that, sadly isnt enough, they dont feel natural at all, they add an overall tension to the room thats unfamiliar to james and mikes high quality brand.

the real albatross around thine necks however, as everyone else seems to feel, is the girl. the problem is that in a geek show as this, girls that take part either need to be EXTREMELY funny and witty and knowledgeable, or be EXTREMELY hot. this girl, needless to say, is neither, i find myself having to skip the parts shes speaking partly because of the horrid accent, and partly because she adds nothing.i assume shes there based on the assumption that having a multi gender show, youd appeal to a larger audience….you have instead…shrunk this audience… james, i know your an opie and anthony fan, this girl is the equivalent in your medium to that of the “radio hole”
i realize that she started off with u guys and probably helped out alot overall, but u guys need to bite the bullet, break her heart fast and let her go work behind the scenes or something, because her place isnt on set.
sorry to sound mean, not my intention, just being honest because i want james and mike to have overall success.
and about the two guys……they are a mild “meh” AT BEST. id lose em too, in favor of people with personality, kinda like a craig from screw attack type.
anyway, good luck guys. sorry again for the kinda flame post. i do love thee both!

  • AE4NES

    April 22, 2011 at 6:43 pm

    The opening song is great.
    The show has potential.
The girl is okay (but the accent is iffy)
    The two guys are okay.

Most people are way to far up their own ass with criticism. Five bucks says, two months from now, everyone thinks this show is classic.

Don’t take these assholes too seriously.

    April 22, 2011 at 6:43 pm

I love everything cinemassacre, but OA isn,t very good IMO. The idea’s good but I didn’t laugh at all during the whole sketch. Maybe if u start writing down some scripts a lil bit more would make it funnier. And the fake Russian accent and snobby girl always making a snobby face and repressing the others as if they’re stupid his annoying. Maybe have something bad or hilarious happen to her and frustrate her and have us have a laugh at her, using her for a villain for humorous purposes a la Daffy Duck.
Keep it up James I’m not giving up on watching anything cinemassacre

  • April 22, 2011 at 6:46 pm

All the people saying this show is bad are a bunch of chocolate alien butt huggers.

The only problem I have is Stephanie having a Russian accent. We’ve seen her in the video where you guys talk about this show premiering at a bar and she was talking without an accent (well, American accent), but now she has one. I know they’re characters you guys are portraying, but because this show is very intimate and it’s improve, it just doesn’t seem right to give her an accent. Other than that, there really is no reason to complain about the show. Actually, even if you include that, there’s no reason to complain about it.

  • rodheh

    April 22, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Buckfutter – I meant the CHARACTER, so thus, the accented character. Susie is just an actor. No offense intended.

  • April 22, 2011 at 6:53 pm

Okay, sounds like alot of other people hold the same sentiment as myself. But still I need to chime in purely because I respect James and everything he does(and has done) so much.

I am yet to actually finish an episode of this. It’s boring. I am not a fan. And honestly the whole thing feels a little overanalyzed (no pun intended).

Let me back up and say that James and Mike are awesome. They have chemistry, and it really shows. They make sense. And I can tell they are having fun. The other 3, not so much. Perhaps they are all trying to find their bearings in all of this. But the weakest link in all of this is the woman’s, clearly fake/forced, accent. I don’t get it, and there is really no need for it. She should just be herself.

So getting back to the main point: the core idea of this show is strong, but it hasn’t really found the truth of what we all do when we sit around and pick apart our favorite (or popular) characters. It lacks fluidity, and honestly I would love to see James and Mike sitting in a booth in a practically empty dinner, getting pissed at each-other over the semantics of batman or the easter bunny, and maybe have the waitress or cook chime in once in a while for a funny punchline. Not the best example I know, but I feel this idea for a show only works with James and Mike at the moment.

  • rammstein81

    April 22, 2011 at 6:56 pm

This is a good base to where more ideas can be put into it. I would say, instead of analizing easter or crhistmas, I would go for a more realistic everyday cases. Like analizing why politicians lie, bible facts or like why we have to go to work!

  • April 22, 2011 at 7:08 pm

This would be watchable if she’d stop the fake russian accent.
but it’s embarrassing listening to such a horrible fake accent,
in the promo for the show she talked normal.

Remove that aspect and you’ll have a good show

  • April 22, 2011 at 7:25 pm

Hey I’ve been watching your videos for years now James, and I just have to say that this is pretty good, and with some time this will be great. People do know this is free entertainment . It takes time to figure out group dynamics and get an ebb and flow of how you want a show to go. Case in point watch the first few episodes of any sitcom, and they’re usually the worst. I like the production, and the accent is fine. I’ve known other woman that have talked like that, and it never bothered me at all. There is a whole wide world out there. People talk in accents. Get over it. Anyway overall good job James.

can this show be cancelled please?

  • April 22, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Jesus James, so many mixed comments about the show you oughta overanalyze the comments on the nay-sayers! Nah, all in all good show…I enjoy it.

  • April 22, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Actually, the easter bunny lays eggs because he’s really a bird. In pagan mythology, a little girl was wandering in the forest on the last day of winter and couldn’t find her way home. She found a bird who was on the verge of death and called upon the Goddess of Spring to save it. The Goddess Ostara turned the bird into a rabbit, who lead the girl safely back to her home. Since the rabbit had once been a bird, it laid eggs, and the girl was thankful that it had returned her home so she made it a decorated basket to live in. Christianity has warped it into the holiday we know today.

  • LordPindar

    April 22, 2011 at 8:09 pm

I’ve wondered about the rabbit and egg symbolism many times, and alldoe I haven’t heard the above mentioned tale, I can safely say that the whole mytology has to do with sex and fertility and the ability of nature to regenerate itself on spring. Thus the bunny is a falic symbol embodying the male fertilizing simbol (because rabbits reproduce exponentialy), and the egg is the feminine woomb which pours forth all the abundance of nature in spring. The painted eggs symbolise the vivid colours of the renewed nature. It is only fitting that these symbols be asociated with the dying and resurecting Sun god motife omnipresent in pagan religions and recicled by helenistic Jews 2000 years ago

Love the show, hate the Russian accent.

  • April 22, 2011 at 8:52 pm

It’s all in the numbers. Look at the Facebook likes.

    AVGN: Spielberg games–over 2k likes
Super Mario Tricks and Glitches–over 2k likes
How to Use Cinemassacre (with Inspector Gadget)–over 1k likes
TMNT cartoon series review–over 2k likes

    Overanalyzers Ep 1–under 1k
    Overanalyzers Ep 2–barely scraping 200

Fanbois can say whatever they want, their talk isn’t going to raise those numbers to anywhere near what the other shows pull. People can argue about bias and being mean, but numbers don’t lie.

  • Bipolar Joe

    April 22, 2011 at 8:57 pm

So, really, the problem is that this isn’t AVGN or Board James. For the record, I really do think the chick is a babe. A lot of the comments are quite unnecessary, with pleas for cancellation, or the kicking of everyone but Rolfe and Matei, at the very least of Yunas. There are a number who are liking this, and more will follow. Like I said, if you don’t enjoy it, don’t watch it. It’s just like changing the channel. If all of a sudden AVGN was stopped because of all the horse shit people have been saying, like “It’s not as funny as blah blah blah episode” or “You curse too much / little, now” people would have a heart attack.

  • Zemus

    April 22, 2011 at 9:03 pm

But you need to consider the feedback, just like a television show, companies pay large amount of money to get feedback on a pilot, where James is getting it for free.. ya sure it will take time to grow but this is dogshit from the get go and just a handful see any potential. Rather waste time on this show, try a different approach or go back to making two AVGN shows a month.

  • hadescrawler

    April 22, 2011 at 9:06 pm

Hey Mike & James, the comments are interesting: it looks like the OA attracts a different crowd while repelling your AVGN audience. If you wanted to continue developing this kind of material, you might want to consider creating a new brand for it – as it is, it looks like you’re weakening the cinemassacre brand. Divide and conquer. By the way, good show!

  • April 22, 2011 at 9:08 pm

SUSIE MUST DIE! Israeli chocolate is the best chocolate besides White Chocolate, which doesn’t count. I might be bias being Jewish, but my father, who is the complete opposite of Jewish, loves it just as much. A hell of a lot of people love Israeli Chocolate, NOBODY CAN DENY IT!!!!

Well, I loved the episode, but I felt like there were valid points that were very obvious that none of you brought up. As the snobby Nerd I am, I was like “YOU GUYS…WHAT THE HELL!!!!???” Plus, nobody really cares about The Easter Bunny. Batman was a better subject since there is a sense of logic in that subject material (even if very loose.) You don’t have a lot to work with that isn’t annoying because The Easter Bunny is pure myth. It’s like covering the myth of The Earth being Flat which originated in Europe VS. The myths of Dragons which originated in Asia. Also, we don’t have much basis around The Easter Bunny besides “he was created as a marketing ploy.”

“I like peeps” *credits roll* “OH, AND NEVER PUT THEM IN THE MICROWAVE!!!” Lmao.

  • April 22, 2011 at 9:14 pm

As long as they stay -10 min, it’s a good concept. Axe the girl now. It’s usually the best idea to do the opposite of whatever your fans say, but she needs to go.

By the way, there are a lot of Jew-haters in the headlines this week. DId you really have to make another Shylock joke?

  • Daniel

    April 22, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I think the concept is good but there is no chemistry going on between the “analyzers”, really. It is too artificial. I appreciate the effort and all that but this is just not working for me. It’s just not funny. It sounds like a boring podcast. It’s not interesting. Sure, given some time things might get better but I’m not optimistic. Mike is the one who seems most excited about the whole thing. Lee is like a tree. He and the girl gotta go. Yes, her accent is ridiculous. Matt is nice. James does a nice job being the “anchorman”. I don’t care about Stephanie and Lee.

I’m not trying to be a troll. I’d just rather watch something else, not only AVGN but YKWBS, Board James or Spike.com videos. Anything else is more interesting than this.

  • stapler942

    April 22, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Um, why are people so hung up on an accent? Seriously, grow up. I’ve taken classes from British, Russian, Hungarian, and German professors and I’m totally fine with it. People don’t talk differently because of some debilitation, it’s because sounds from their native language are embedded in their brain much deeper than the sounds of North American English. And to people outside of North America we sound just as ridiculous trying to speak their language.

  • April 22, 2011 at 9:30 pm

I am a huge fan of the site, have been for years. while in Afghanistan, i would actually use the slow-ass computers in a tent to watch AVGN in my spare time.

That being said, I’m not feeling this show. Mostly because I really like James and Mike but dont care for the other people. Especially the chick. Im a dork when it comes to this subject matter, and I feel the sincerity of James and Mike, but they clash with the other people.

Taking measurements of chickens and rabbits and asses in question. show a completely unrelated chemical experiment and find conclusions. I would like MORE! then slightly emotional dialogue.

I like the show, but I’m going to agree with the accent needing to go. It sounds way too false. It’d be okay if that was the way she talked all the time, but we’ve SEEN her in an older video talking in an American accent.

  • JWalker30

    April 23, 2011 at 1:53 am

I think I have solved the mystery. This also answers another age old question. Why did the chicken cross the road? To go fuck a bunny of course. So this chicken was trying to fuck this bunny, and aparently this bunny was a whore and it was so big that the chicken fell in and got stuck. The next morning a little girl living on a farm noticed a bunny laying eggs all over the place, and asked her parents how it can do this. The parents were too embarrassed to tell her the truth so since it was near easter time they told her that it was a magical bunny that layed eggs for all the good little boys and girls for easter. The little girl was retarded so she believed them, and that is how the easter bunny was born.

  • Faunus

    April 23, 2011 at 2:37 am

I agree, accent needs to go with the chick but I think this really has potential.

  • April 23, 2011 at 2:44 am

I really want to like this but I still can’t get passed that accent. Might be a bit different it it wasn’t so fake; maybe? Can’t she just talk in her normal voice?

  • April 23, 2011 at 2:44 am

It still sucks. How unfortunate. I’ll still watch new episodes because I’m a guppy but really James, this show is a travesty, you really need to read all these comments and take them to heart. Some of them are useless ass-kissing, others are pointless bashing but most have honest opinions and are only trying to help.

  • JWalker30

    April 23, 2011 at 2:52 am

Although I do not like the accent, I think Susie has much better input than Matt and Lee. I loved the part where Susie and Mike think Satan put the chicken in the bunnys ass, and I wanted to hear them expand on this theory, then here comes Matt with his lame theory and ruins it. The only thing Matt said that was funny was “. . . I like peeps.”

Lose Matt and Lee. Keep Susie but lose the accent. Maybe you should bring Bad Luck Bootsy and Kyle Justin on the show.

    Anyways, pretty mediocre. Sorry.

    April 23, 2011 at 4:24 am

Well me personally i really like these episodes and i think that the people that are wanting the girl to go shouldn’t be judging so much over 2 episodes. To be honest I really don’t mind the accent either, but I did think that this 2nd one was better than the last it made me laugh a lot…and I did like Matt’s idea of the whole alien thing. I’m not ass kissing I’m just telling you what I felt watching thins, and for all the haters, give this show a chance at least don’t judge it by 2 episodes….

  • DJMankiwitz

    April 23, 2011 at 4:41 am

I have signed up just to say one thing. Don’t listen to the nay sayers, I personally find this concept of a show hilarious. I think this one was better than the last one because you guys got more creative. “Susie” was hilarious when she actually got a word in edgewise. The “turduckin” thing was probably the most hilarious part of the episode.

I’ll say this though, unless that accent is actually genuine (in which case I apologize), I think it needs to go. It sort of detracts from things. There’s no way to really remove it in a subtle way, so I’d go for an incredibly obvious way, having her drop it mid-episode with everyone curious as to why she dropped it.

So yeah, great concept, great episode, one small thing I don’t like.

  • April 23, 2011 at 4:54 am

Great show, great idea, but I am definitely having trouble getting around the fake accent.. in the beginning of the episode its hardly there, by the end its very thick.. she’s too inconsistent.

  • rebeloftheunderground12

    April 23, 2011 at 5:01 am

i dont comment often but i will say this series def has potential.

i think it is really funny. and while i dont really dig the accent, i cant say that i hate it like so many other people infer or say directly. i think she actually carried this episode along really well. i think james and mike stand out so well because the fans are already familiar with them. its also kind of obvious james and mike have a lot more experience in front of a camera, unlike the rest of the crew. i say that because the rest seem to be more reserved, which can even be seen in the opening, where james and mike have more outrageous introductions, the rest dont really seem animated or move even, which would seem to work the best given the graphical representation in the intro.

i do think the comments and ideas are hilarious, but i think people are too hard on this show, considering its with new people and its only the second episode. i honestly could look at the first two angry nintendo nerd episodes and never of thought they could really amount to anything, but look at what has come from it. that had an even more obscure concept, and i laughed way more at the first two episodes of OA than i did the first 2 ANN episodes. i think the other three characters that arent known need to develop some sort of identity or persona people can appreciate like what james and mike did.

i dont say cancel it. i say renovate it. give the other characters some sort of relevance, or purpose, besides the fact that they are there. i understand this show is supposed to be like a bunch of friends chilling and over analyzing something, but its a show first. give everyone a certain role. not necessarily as a “character” but just playing off how the other thinks differently as an antagonist.

  • April 23, 2011 at 5:12 am

Please listen to the viewers. The girl has to go. That horrible accent really makes me never want to watch anything on this site. I am a fan of almost everything else in cinemassacre, just please take her out of the show for at least one episode and see the reaction from the loyal viewers who would still watch regardless if she was on or not. A can almost guarantee it will be 100x more watchable and enjoyable.

It’s like a really boring podcast about a really boring topic.

I can hardly imagine how a handful of people can find this funny or entertaining.

  • April 23, 2011 at 6:13 am

Well I’m romanian. And let me tell you what the christians here believe:

They say that after Christ was crucified, well, while he was still up on the cross between life and death, a woman left a basket of chicken eggs at the base of the cross, and since Jesus was cut in multiple places, so he bleed and the blood filled the basket, thus painting the eggs red. when the woman came after the basket her eggs were red, and also blessed because it was the blood of Christ.

So we have a tradition of painting eggs and stuff, and we also have one, where we hit each others eggs, with our own and see which one cracks.

I’m an atheist so I wonder how this got mixed up with the whole chocolate and Easter Bunny and Egg hunt stuff.

Just thought it would be useful in the Analysis of an bunny crapping chocolate eggs.

    Dear Cinemassacre,

I have listened to you (James Rolfe) do your share of criticizing. Let me first say, I am a fan. I have watched a lot of your videos. All the Angry Video Game Nerds. All the Spike movie reviews. The Deader The Better, Rocky Jumped A Park Bench (which was actually pretty good) I watched you walk around Sleepy Hollow, Monster Madness, you name it. I’ve even watched you show off the ridiculous amount of DVD’s you have. For Christ’s sake, I’ve watched Board James.

My point is, I usually like what you do, for the most part. I find the majority of your videos are very creative, clever, and at times, downright hilarious.

Here’s the problem. You dropped the ball.

When you originally announced the OverAnalyzers, I was genuinely interested. You have a real talent for breaking things down and I often enjoy your perspective. So even though it looked like you were once again working your friends into something, I didn’t mind. I mean, I really didn’t care much for Mike Matei when he first started showing up in material, and now I watch those game glitch videos where it’s just him. So, I figured I’d give your other buddies the benefit of the doubt.

    Let me explain what’s wrong.

    > The topics. I mean come on. Your first two episodes were about Batman and then the Easter Bunny. Are you serious? I usually don’t quote Jay and Silent Bob, but it did make me want to beat the shit out of you for being so fucking stupid. Here’s an idea, why not talk about something that actually matters? I know pop culture is great and all, but didn’t VH1 pretty much cover everything? Isn’t there anything else you care about?

    > The production. I mean you have a neat logo and stuff, the theme song is okay, even the set is pretty cool. But who’s directing this, someone with epilepsy? For real, what the hell is going on here? It makes not bad look like Plan 9.

    > Before the debut online of the very first episode, you and Stephanie were at some bar for the world premiere?? [That must have went over well.. Yeah, because that's why I go to a bar, to be quiet and listen to a bunch of assholes talk about a 1960's TV show] So, in the video of the premiere, you two were talking and whatever and I thought okay.. that must be the girl.. she seems cool. Then I watch the first episode and now she’s Susie speaking with some weird accent. Why? Who thought that was a good idea? And why didn’t anyone tell her to relax and be herself? And I know other people have pointed this out, but still, it just comes off odd.

    > As odd as the accent is, it was nowhere near as strange as how many gay innuendos you were trying to force into that conversation. I thought, is this a joke? Batman and Robin slide down the stupid bat-poles and when they come down they are in their costumes. It’s trick photography. You of all people should appreciate that. As a child I could grasp that. What is there to analyze?

    > Like I said I’ve grown to like Mike Matei and his contributions, but the other two idiots… You could literally replace them in the third episode and I wouldn’t even realize it. They are the no name members of your away team.

In closing, I still think it is a good concept. I hope you make some adjustments, because honestly, the first two episodes were worse than watching grown men discuss their thoughts on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for 15 minutes. And you know what’s really bullshit? In all your turtle talk, you never seem to mention the fact that they were originally a parody of early 1980′s comic books, particularly Frank Miller’s work. They were a joke. You have to know that.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

I struggled through the first episode, cringing every time that horrible Russian accent hit my ears. I’m sorry to say, as soon as I heard the first words with that same accent in Episode 2, I stopped the video… and that was only a few lines into the bit. Maybe I’ll try again later, but jeez, you’re not Natasha Fatale from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

It’s not funny if you’re not laughing yourselves, the only funny part of this was Mike’s bit.

I don’t think this is working too well. “Let’s sit down and have a funny conversation” comes off as forced, playing some sort of characters while doing it isn’t helping at all.

What’s funny is when you’re having a genuine conversation like the “Bullshit” piece on the set of Plan 9, or reviewing the Mario menu with Gadget.

So to make this better: drop the intro, drop the labcoats, sit on a sofa instead of around a table and be yourselves:

“Hey guys, James here with Mike, Matt, Steph and Lee. You know what’s fucked up? The easter bunny. Bunny, mammal, lays eggs. What’s up with that?”

    …and go from there.

  • April 23, 2011 at 9:36 am

Some people really seem to hate this series. Others seem to really like it.

I’m somewhere in the middle. I think it has some funny moments, but overall there are some issues with the series that make it hard to really live up to its full potential.

Others have already mentioned a lot of this but:

    - Aside from James and Mike the other ‘characters’ seem void of personality — except maybe Susie, but in her case the personality is a negative aspect and detracts from the show. I really think the pilot episode needed to introduce us to these people, and give us a reason to care for why they were there.

    - No visuals — the descriptions you guys give are hilarious, but with no other visual material to back up what you’re saying I feel I might as well be listening to a podcast. Some short animation or even artwork like Mike draws for the Nerd video titlecards would be really helpful to nailing the point home.

    - The endings: So far I feel like both episodes ended with a kind of.. “and.. yeah…” I almost feel like the endings of the series need a more conclusive feeling, some way of putting their foot down and allowing viewers to feel satisfied rather than just ‘eh I listened to a rant, okay moving on.’ This episode seemed a little better at it than the first.

    - Susie’s accent: Pretty self-explanatory and many have mentioned this, it just takes away from the show somehow.

That’s it for my critique. It’s just my two cents and obviously you guys know what you want for this series so if it helps it helps if not, ah well.

Some people have been saying “WTF Why didn’t you take our feedback from episode 1 and use it here?” I think they may have already recorded a ‘seasons worth’ of episodes guys, so it’d be impossible for them to alter what they already shot…

  • WatchmenFTW

    April 23, 2011 at 10:05 am

Listen James, this show has potential as I’m sure many have already said, but so far, the laughs have been very thin on the ground.
Firstly, Suzie needs to lose her accent. It’s really not funny and it just seems like that she’s only doing it because she doesn’t do anything else. Personally I’d reccomend she leaves the show or she drops the accent.
I would say that the Lee and Matt should talk more but to be fair they did speak a lot more in this episode so, that’s one thing better than the first episode. Make sure they keep up their dialogue and not to let you and Mike take over the show, even if you guys are kind of the leaders.

In summary, better than the last episode but please lose Susie’s accent or lose her. The rest of the guys were okay, Lee and Matt definately need to be more energetic though as well.

  • costax

    April 23, 2011 at 10:19 am

Fake accents can be hilarious if done right. Consistency is the biggest issue here, you can’t have a light accent sometimes, thick at other times (like when delivering a specific joke). It kills the character you are trying to portray because you’re constantly being reminded the accent is there for comedic benefit. So if the jokes don’t pay off and don’t come out “funny”, then the accent is just a huge distraction.

I think thats the issue most people are having with Suze. I actually liked her more in the preview video! I think she would be funny/great just being herself and contributing to the discussion. I can tell she is funny, just need to iron out some wrinkles.

  • Caneghem

    April 23, 2011 at 10:33 am

“What does a guy hanging on a cross have to do with a bunny that lays eggs that were implanted by chocolate ass-hugging aliens?”

It’s symbolism to help children understand the resurrection story. Every time the Easter bunny’s chest explodes, and then is made whole again, it is like an individualized microcosm of the rebirth experience on each child’s front yard. The chocolate egg represents salvation being given to all men, and is the result of the poor cursed rabbit’s suffering. Eggs themselves are symbols of birth, and chocolate is a symbol of happiness.

I like the show, but the format breaks down when some of the actors start laughing during some of the jokes. I think the premise is workable, that James comes in with an important issue to solve and uses his crack think tank to bust the problem wide open. But the format relies on everybody being able to keep a straight face, and that needs a little work. Keep working at it!

I liked the first episode a lot, but this seems to be lacking..

Not sure why everyone is against ‘Susie’ and her accent, I think it is a good way to mix things up and she does a good job with it.

The two gentlemen other than Mike and James, however, feel awkward on camera; they just don’t have any presence. Even when they have more lines, it still just feels forced and awkward.

I know this isn’t survivor and we are not voting people off here (I guess I am just getting caught up in the mentality of everyone else), but I’m really not feeling Matt and Lee. : /

  • Mateusz

    April 23, 2011 at 3:21 pm

you’ve made some improvement compared to the first OA episode.
Lee is still too shy though, he has to improve in front of the camera.
and I can’t help myself, but I really don’t like Susie. At least make her stop using the fake accent.

  • April 23, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Several people have suggested that the current season of OA is prerecorded. If this is true then it’s my guess that you rented expensive film equipment for a weeks worth of shooting. This makes sense due to the high quality look of your product. So, likely, you and your group of Overanalyzers researched topics for a couple months before the shoot, and then rehearsed said topics for a set amount of weeks, and finally set aside a week for shooting all the topics back to back. A blitz.

You probably shot on high quality digital because that is easier to edit than film (and cheaper). And right now, I’m guessing a whole seasons worth of episodes are sitting on your computer at home, waiting to be edited.

There is a huge problem with filming a series like this. It’s a huge risk.

If you did shoot this way then, James, you got balls, but brotha you have to know it was a risk. The advantage is if it’s golden then you’re a success. But, if it’s shit–then you’re stuck with shit. For a whole season. If you filmed OA like this then judging by the majority of comments–the risk failed.

Have you ever wondered why big budget film companies preview their shows in front of test audiences? Have you ever wondered why Broadway shows and even the lowest budget stage show give preview performances for free? Here is the answer: because they want raw feedback. Preview performances provide valuable information. Production teams use that feedback to make changes and fine tune their product to the best performance possible.

Perhaps you are thinking: “We did give a preview performance–it was at the bar.” Gathering up a bunch or friends and friends of friends who are in awe at James Rolfe’s success is not a preview performance. That’s what we call an ass-kissing session. It’s where people kiss ass and try to get noticed. In order to have a true preview performance you need a non-biased, non-connected audience. This is why movie companies send their previews out of state (usually to multiple big cities).

And in this case WE are your preview performance. We are the non-connected ones. We are the people giving you valuable intel with which you can tweak your season.

    So what do you do?

Trash your stock. Dump it. Dump the weeks worth of filming and re-film using the advice your test audience (us) have given you. Will you take a financial hit? Yes. Will it be a pain in the ass to shoot again? No. And that’s the upside because filming is awesome. And now you get to re-shoot source material you are already familiar with and will probably do a better job the second time around.

Consider it a lesson learned, take the hit and re-film.

Wait a sec. I got an idea.

If one character is going to put on a fake accent, then shouldn’t the others follow suit, or take on a new persona?

Like I said before, I’d prefer just you guys being yourselves and having a conversation.

BUUUUUUUUUUUT if you really want to go with this whole “zany conversation w/ wacky characters” schtick, then go whole horse and have everyone adopt a character.

See, the problem is that her character breaks the symmetry and seems out of place (she has a fake accent, but everyone else just plays themselves). If you ALL took on a theatrical persona, then it would mesh together and look alot better.

    So it worked.

I was saying something like the guy over here who talks about the glorious Street Fighter and then the shitty movie. What I wrote, was that this is your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3.

I see it lists you as the sole creator, and the whole bunch as script writers. I just can’t manage to actually believe that. First of all, this doesn’t sound like your humor or concept. I get the feeling that these other persons came up with the idea wanting to do a show with their funny buddy James who are doing great making movies to put on the Internet. As for the script, I just can’t believe that this is your writing nor topics. The whole concept reminds me of a shitty twist of “You Know What’s Bullshit?”.

I have left comments before, both here and to the first episode, so I’m not going to get into the whole problem with the other people (and in particular the broad), but one thing I haven’t said regarding the concept: one thing that ass crashes the humor is that “you”* really don’t manage to… eh, I cant find the right word in English right now. The genre/concept is not right for you. (This is the best way I managed to come close to the right words.) You know, “Batman slides down the pole, and suddenly he’s wearing the costume… What’s up with that?? :D Is there a secret room there, or what? Hahahaha :D”. Read this, and think of a lame stand-up comedian getting tomatoes thrown at him. It’s not good observations, and it’s not fucking funny analyzes. A more fitting and funny thing would have been to talk about how insane Bruce Wayne must be; this grown up man who dress up in a bat costume, running around fighting criminals because he felt down a bat cave as a child. Something like that would be more fitting for the genre, and a lot more funny. (This was just something I took at the top of my head; you know what I mean even if that example was funny or not.)

    * The reason for putting “you” in punctuation marks is because I don’t believe that you have much involvement since you DO manage to come up with witty observations and funny ass fuck remarks.

And as I’ve said once before: don’t like the high quality either. I like the “innocent” boy room quality, it’s a part of the whole Cinemassacre charm.

This show is great. Hahaha. We’ve had the Easter Bunny discussion many times. WTF does he have to do with Easter?! Nothing, really. :D

Okay well, there was a holiday celebrating something else (word escapes me at the moment), and the egg was one of the symbols. Early Christian leaders put Easter around that time to get people to celebrate the resurrection instead/along with their old pagan holiday.

I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the whole Easter Bunny and egg-laying thing, though. It’s very strange.

  • Furypants

    April 23, 2011 at 9:27 pm

    @Ben

Actually the holiday you are looking for is “Passover” (and it’s Jewish not Pagan). See, back in the Early days of the Church, Pascha was simply seen as an extension of the Passover holiday (hence the name, which comes from the Hebrew word for Passover ) The Egg tradition comes from the Passover tradition of the Beitzah (a hard boiled egg eaten as part of the seder, representing sacrifice done in honor of Yahweh freeing the Jews). In the Christian case, the egg came to represent the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

The Easter Bunny is a bit more grim and much more secular in nature: it came from the middle ages and the practice of the spring rabbit hunt (a sporting event taken part in by noble and peasant alike, adult and child alike). The egg hunt is modern (coming from the 17-18th century) as an attempt to tone down the hunts (which given the industrialization of the world, had become more difficult). The candy eggs and whatnot are still more modern and are a result of candy companies selling “novelty spring candies” at the tail end of the 18th century.

A very good recounting of all this can be found in Roger’s ” Holidays in Medieval Europe”

Keep something in mind….had it not been for avgn, no offense, but how many people would know of james work? The reason his popularity skyroketed is because it WAS entertaining. This..IS …NOT. Other than MF-er mike I never heard of any of these three people before episode one. They come off as leeches trying to ride someone else’s coat tail. The jury is still out but half the comments say it sucks (and I whole heartedly agree) and half say it’s good. I’m not saying ignore the people who like the show, i’m saying listen to the people who don’t.

By ignoring the people who say it sucks, you run the risk of biting the hand that feeds you. Yeah, money is involved. If people stop watching, the website loses hits and loses money. I’d hate to see that happen, I get it he is burnt out on avgn. But remeber this…

People who act in star trek shows or movies bitch about being typecast, or being stuck going to conventions, or whatever….they forget if not for star trek NOBODY would know they even existed. All those “nerds” out there wearing the stupid shirts and knowing all the episodes are the ones putting food on those actors tables, so stop crying and count your blessings. Same thing with david duchovny being tired with xfiles…would your red shoe diaries make you millions? See my point, I could go on and on but fuck this was too long already…

In closing, james, we get you are burnt out. But a long long break to recoup is better than this shit

Its not the content I have a problem with, but the camera work is just dreadful to say the least. Its so shaky its impossible to pay attention when it looks like an earthquake is going on.

  • April 23, 2011 at 11:51 pm

I’m sorry, but this show SUCKS i dont mean to be a asshole but for god sake it sucks, either pick better topics or just quit doing it. Because Batman & The Easter Bunny are not cutting it. I’d rather (and im sure a lot of people agree) that james just take a break for a while, maybe keep doing the TMNT videos but thats it…..because i like coming to your site to see what is new, but now when you post that crap. Also, MotherFucker Mike could keep posting his NES Videos. That Is All.

  • April 24, 2011 at 12:26 am

I don’t know about everyone else, but I thought it was hilarious. There is so much stuff in the world that doesn’t matter, you just accept it, but when you actually think about most the stuff in the world, it’s all moot yet very interesting.

All I know is that I like it and it’s something that I would probably do XD

I’ve been a long time fan and I can’t say how much I love this website and your production team. It’s gotten me through some low times to just be able to chill and watch your stuff. I never felt like commenting on the site until after reading the great number of mix bag comments coming from this show.

I really want to give my feedback because I think this is a great great idea. I also really enjoy the style you have created with the music, logo and set-up. Yet, I have to agree with many of these comments that some of the other actors are really distracting. I mean without some sort of other premise slash plot device I like the style of people in the room just kind of duking it out but there needs to be more chemistry. I also really hate the accent, I think she is great but I hate how the only woman on the show uses a gimmick. If other characters had accents I may feel differently, but having a woman on the show I think is a great addition and needs no other flare.

I really really wish you continue to expand on this show. Again, this is a great idea and has so much potential and its just fun. I continue to commend you guys and in the end you should do whatever the fuck you want haha, the amount of video content on this website is amazing at times and I know its a shit load of work.

Keep of the great work. Thanks again for all the good content.

Honesty I would rather see more videos of just you and Mike sitting around discussing stuff. It seems like it would be the easiest kind of video to make too. By no means am I trying to tell you what to do, just stating my opinion. I can understand how you are getting tired of the Nerd character and I don’t blame you. You are a very talented person and it’s nice that you are trying new things. I’m looking forward to the AVGN movie. Good luck great work and I still have faith in over analyzers. I appreciate all the free entertainment you have provided over the years.

  • April 24, 2011 at 2:33 am

That woman’s jokes would be a lot funnier if she got rid of the accent. It would also be a pretty good gag next episode if you guys found out she wasn’t really Russian.

From fellow game fans, even among those who do not like AVGN, one of the greatest recurring comments about James Rolfe is he’s a really cool guy. Looking at the comments for this video, I agree one of the most significant issues with OA is the absence of relatability and homely atmosphere. I feel like I’m in class watching this series. Ick!

To those suggesting “fans do not like OA because it’s new/different”, then why the love for non-AVGN series like Board James, movie reviews, Bullshit, and even trivial videos like showing off the Cinemassacre server? Because in those videos he remains a chill dude we can see ourselves through and even often empathize with. So it’s less a matter of QA being different and much more a matter of it simply not being at the standard level of Cinemassacre quality.

OA is not playing off James’ strengths, which is fine, but the crew will have to work that much harder to compensate, which thus far has not been happening in any meaningful way, and neither can I see it happening based on the current contributions of the oddballs. James can ignore the haters and continue the series as is on the basis people should ignore what they don’t like and simply watch what they do (I for one will be doing just that), but regardless, there are still very significant repercussions such as the general cheapening of the Cinemassacre brand, fans who will watch less non-AVGN, and fans who may even stop visiting your site entirely.

I don’t mean to blow this out of proportion, but the content on this site has more than once knocked me out of a depression. We’ve all seen our favorite things go down the crapper with the progression of time and I know I’m not the only one who has looked back futilely and pondered how I could have altered their trajectory. I want to see this site healthy and active twenty years from now so I can show my own children its content and laugh together at the ridiculous quirks of the past.

I happen to think this series has a lot of potential, but so far….eh. Oh, and ditch the Russian chick. @ psloother – If James and Mike didn’t want our feedback then what’s the fucking point of being able to comment? Trust me, they want our opinions, no matter if they’re positive or negative. We all appreciate and love the free entertainment, but by enabling comments they have given us a direct line of contact, kind of a mass focus group. So you should take you’re own advice and shut the fuck up.
Keep up the good work James and Mike, and don’t get discouraged any of the negative feedback, we just want our beloved Cinemassacre to continue being fucking awesome.

Did anybody else noticed that even though this is the newest video on the site it doesn’t come up as the main video like usual. TMNT Cartoon review comes up as the main video with How to use cine-massacre.com and Spielberg games as the other two main featured videos. OA now appears as the top video in the older video list on the right. Is Jame embarrassed of the series and trying to hide it because of all the negative comments? lol probably not, but it makes you think.

Really strange that the accent in the first episode bothered me, now doesn’t seem to bother me at all. Although this time I don’t like the subject (better luck for me next time), the whole thing as an episode seemed to be better.

Motherthrusting Mike is less on screen so the other characters have more screentime. I like that. Only for the fact that there is a more balanced way of treatment over the subject.

  • VGRetro

    April 24, 2011 at 5:54 am

    @ ajsNerd

James never said he was burned out. He isn’t, anyway. He’s put the show on hold to make the movie. He even said this in the latest review. All these people bitching about that run the risk of ruining the movie. Pestering James and demanding him to make the movie or more nerd while he tries to make it. What happens if he listens? We’ll get low quality episodes and even lower quality of a film. Just let him get on with the film without any hassle. If you can call yourself a fan of James, you’ll understand that.

Now this subject was all about OverAnalyzers… But it’s still the same thing. Half the people like it, half the people don’t, but this site isn’t going down because of this. James never said this was his answer to AVGN, so don’t put words into his mouth by treating it like that. It’s an occasional project, the same as his Bullshit videos and Bored James episodes. You don’t have to watch it if you don’t want to, and the site isn’t going to fall because of it. People will still come and watch the rest of his work; OverAnalyzers isn’t going to take that away.

You guys seem to be confused here. Where did you ever get the idea that the easter bunny “lays” eggs, as opposed to delivering/hiding them which is the standard mythos. I am guessing from the Cadbury’s commercial as mentioned by others.

    April 24, 2011 at 9:39 am

Oh remember the days before the internet where lonely geeks didn’t have an outlet to whine about there favorite geek entertainment being changed. When being a critic was a profession that helped consumers make informed decisions and wasn’t just the geeks god given right to defend their beloved dweebieness with a snary comment. Yeah those were the days.

Love the show James. It’s different and entertaining. It also has the potential to appeal to a broad fan base which can only help you in the future. Of course we all love the Nerd, thats what brought us to the dance (to those who were addressed the the previous paragraph, a dance is a social gathering where people move to music in a traditional courtship ritual for human beings) and no one wants to see that go. But i am happy to see the brand expand and have different flavors to sample from.

  • April 24, 2011 at 9:41 am

Uh, ringskirts, people are entitled to their opinions. Not everyone who doesn’t like a particulair series is a “geek with nothing better to do.” Criticism is what helps artists grow, and without opinions we’d all be mindless drones. Not everyone is going to like everything, and the very purpose of comments is to express onesself.

A lot of comments here have offered legitimate feedback. Some do go over the top, sure, but none were off base or out of line.

I agree that Susie’s accent is distracting and unnecessary when everyone else talks normally. It’s not even really consistent (and not funny either). I also concur that it’s unfortunate that the only female of the group has to have a stupid ‘gimmick.’

That’s about my only complaint, otherwise the show has the same ‘friends hanging around talking crap’ that made MST3K so fun.

    April 24, 2011 at 12:17 pm

It was a good episode. I think it is completely up to you and your team James, on which direction the show takes. However, my opinion is that it would have been more entertaining if it had more educational content. Nothing too much, just some historical information that could have helped viewers answer the conundrum.

    Hello, James and OA.
I am from Russia and I’ve been following all the AVGN stuff almost since the beginning.
This is the first time I want to tell you something.

It’s about your “Duck in the Bunny” thing (where you James make this O_o face on video).

Here in Russia we have a famous folktales character named Koschei (you can google it if you want, there is an article in Wikipedia). He is an immortal evil megaboss with kinda interesting weakness.

His death is hidden inside a needle, which is in an egg, which is in a duck, which is in a hare, which is in an iron chest, which is buried under a green oak tree, which is on the island of Buyan, in the ocean. He only can be killed by breaking this needle.

This is fantastic fact that you guys came to this Duck in the Bunny point. Probably there is some connection in American and Russian folktales, which became not so obvious as time passed.

So that’s my contribution in your topic. Just FYI. Maybe you would like to think further about this coincidence.
And James, thanks for all your work, I enjoyed every piece of it.

    Hey OA,
The real reason why we get eggs from a bunny is because the teutons first tought a bunny was actually a bird. But why an overgrown bunny goes around shitting (or bursting) eggs out of its ass (or chest) on the day Jesus rose from the grave……. I’ve got no clue whatsoever (enless i have to believe south park)

But overall I like where this series is going

  • northern_lights

    April 24, 2011 at 4:24 pm

the show is obviously still finding its comfort zone. a lot of people seem to forget this is only episode 2, or be unwilling to cut them any slack. i’m feeling that since it’s a new show and a new idea, at least some of the point is to have some people other than james and mike be the only ones on screen and to have more of a dialogue. maybe susie as a character has an accent to show that she’s supposed to offer some kind of outsider perspective? if so, i can see it hitting its rhythm eventually, if it’s not 100% there yet.
anyway, i appreciate the series. these are exactly the same kinds of discussions i have with my friends on any given night, so i really like knowing that more groups of people think about the same crazy stuff.
personally, i think the variety that more than two characters can offer.
anyway, i think matt, lee and steph can be pretty funny and i hope they stick around. they just have to get more comfortable with their characters/roles and being on camera. still pretty good for being free content! way better than a lot of the junk out there.
    keep it up!

  • ddt_Eagleeye

    April 24, 2011 at 8:47 pm

To be honest – except you and Mike – I don’t find the show to be funny at all. Maybe that’s not the point of it after all. Anyway, I just don’t get it. I like your humor, especially the AVGN humor, but in this show it seems you have to hold back on it, pressing out kind of forced one-liners, like a comedic support act.
It feels like there are too many talking all kinds of statements and strange ideas with no point to it whatsoever. I know, it’s “overanalyzing” – but leaving that to you and Mike would be enough. You don’t need these other guys for a good show. Just look at your “Gadget DVD menu” vid…. or your thoughts on a new TMNT -movie. Basically, you both do exact the same thing, overanalyzing random shit that can usually described in one sentence. These vids with you and Mike are hilarious! And they’re not even scripted.
I say kick out the “russian girl” and those other guys, take the MoFo Mike and make some awesome show!

    April 24, 2011 at 10:14 pm

With all the negative-nellies out there, I thought I might as well throw my 2-cents in. For all this love about AVGN, I went way back and watched some of the first videos that James did. I personally thought they really sucked ass compared to many of the newer ones.

I figured out the newer episodes were more interesting when there was other people/things that he interacted with. (Yes, including ROB) I also wondered if MF’in Mike was locked in some closet being forced to just draw the title cards. When Mike’s game glitches started showing up, I thought they were just some stupid little filler that James decided to put up since people were complaining that there wasn’t enough Mike.

When I saw Overanalyzers was coming out, and from the preview poster saw that there were more than just Mike and James, I though this would be good to see a “different” kind of James video. Is this show banging on all cylinders, no but it shows a lot of promise.

So for all the negative comments, and saying that Matt, Susie, and Lee are riding on coattails of James and Mike, I just don’t think that they get it. They obviously want something that is immediately hilarious, and won’t except anything less. Accept change people, its how creative people grow.

James my only advice is this: if you think is funny and like making episodes like this, then do it, and ignore anyone that just bitches, and offers no constructive comments

I think the only thing that will make this show better is to see more episodes with this crew. I would actually like to see Matt and Lee pick up some quirk. Maybe Lee=Milton from Office Space, and Matt was like the Bob’s.

I never said I didn’t like the show. I actually find it quite amusing that people would make assumptions like that. :P My “snarly” comment was just my subtle way of suggesting a link to all the Overanalyzers shows to be placed somewhere in the menu. I love the new show, James. I hope you keep making more.

    April 25, 2011 at 1:04 am

Hmmm… I just didn’t enjoy it. I had the feeling that it was scripted to sound like free flowing conversation but it was performed poorly. Forgive me if that was really you guys having a legit conversation and assuming that they werent just being camera shy. Other than that I just felt it didnt have any real punchlines… not just for jokes but for the topics aswell, meaning that it kinda stayed on one focus of the face huggers the whole deal which wasnt all that funny. Try bouncing around more with the subject.

Oh yeah and if it is scripted please do give everyone more of a character role…

On a side note I have been watching James forever and love every review he has ever done, does them like none other. but for someone who loves film as much as james does he doesnt do so well in shorts or skits that arnt reviewing stuff.. IMO. Maybe it has a lot to do with a lack of acting talent, forgive me if im wrong because i havnt read the bio of everyone in james’ skits but I dont think james has had much work in acting nor directing nor directing others in acting. So when he is starring in something and directing it at the same time he just has to hope for the best. Its sad because i see a lot of people who have some acting/improve/camera talent rocket with lil’ more than a rough script. I support your breech into more skits and less reviews james and hope it starts workin smoother for ya soon.

I’ve never been to this site before- I am completely unfamiliar with AVGN or its usual content, but I do know the people involved.

I was laughing out loud at points- it starts with a good premise, and while I thought the pace dragged a bit towards the beginning, once the truly ludicrous suggestions started rolling in it picked up steam. I’d say it worked best when you kept things quick and bouncy without lingering too long on any one scenario. Those moments were when I really found myself laughing. It’s not horrible. I think it has real promise- I can tell you were going for a sort of “Onion AV Club” vibe, but it’s hard to achieve the proper rhythm.

    Specific constructive feedback:
-Why does James bring this question in as though it’s a book report assignment and just wait? I think if the initial idea was introduced more organically, the ensuing conversation would flow more easily.
-Repeatedly clarifying a suggestion someone had made without introducing new ones slowed the pace.
-I’d say limit the profanity- normally I don’t care, but in this context I’m finding some of it distracting.
-Maybe you have one too many people- it’s a little hard to divide your attention and camera angles among the five of you.
-”Susie’s” accent didn’t bother me, but I think she could do without it. The other people are basically themselves, so the affectation seems a bit out of place. Susie made me laugh the hardest. Maybe it’s a girl thing?
-You can’t laugh too much at your own jokes less- I think it limits the audience’s impulse to laugh. This especially applies to “Mike”- I thought it really diminished his screen presence.
-Matt and Lee were fine; Matt might benefit from a more defined place at the table. Lee, I think, could develop into an excellent “straight man” in contrast to the ornery James and the enigmatic Susie.

I really enjoyed this episode, It dried up a bit around the end of the video, but the hilarious nonsense in the first half had me cracking up, along with James’ (Jim’s?) classic facial expressions. After watching this & then seeing the picture of the bunnies coming out of that egg; I’m a bit creeped out by the easter bunny now.

I think the show is getting better now. Everybody talks and sharing each other’s opinion.

Though, this time I’m not much entertained, not because the show is bad but particularly the topic “Easter Bunny” doesn’t get into me that much. It’s just me, anyway (^^) overall, the show is definitely improving and I’ll be waiting for your next interesting topic.

Thank very much for the video!

  • April 25, 2011 at 7:43 am

    Wait, what? o_o
Are you teling me that the easterbunny really is said to be laying the eggs in the USA? O__O
    wtf?
Over here in Germany it is said (if mentioned at all) that he collects them from chickens XD There was one Story where he collected them rom all kinds of animals, I remember but the normal legend asumes that he get’s them the same way that we do XD

  • April 25, 2011 at 9:51 am

Meh, Easter symbols are very easy to explain.

The Easter Bunny doesn’t lay Eggs. Both Eggs and Rabbits are symbols of fertility. Easter pre-dates Christianity. The Roman Catholic Church adopted Easter into their liturgical calendar because of the importance it had to the pagan folks, whom at the time weren’t aware of their conversion to Christianity.

    It went something like:
    Missionary: “You’re all Christians now!”
    Pagans: “What?”
Missionary: “You’re all Christian as of now!!!”
Pagans: “Do we still get to celebrate Easter?”
Missionary: “Errrhh…yeah…but you’re not celebrating spring any more, you’re celebrating the resurrection of Zombie Jebus.”
Pagans: “Do we still get to colour eggs? And what about the carving of wooden statuettes that depict humping rabbits?’”
Missionary: “Erh…yes, but let’s not focus on the humping that rabbits do, let’s focus more on how cute and fluffy bunnies are.”

In the Roman Catholic folklore of my region, the Bells of Rome sprout angel wings take off and fly around the world, sh*tting out coloured eggs all over the world.

Still funny though, but it’s preferable they stick to things that you really can’t explain (like the pole dancing Batman and Robin). Love Susie’s Slavic accent XD

As someone stated before, the use of a script is not necessary good nor bad. Some of the characters seem to start laughing before some jokes.

I think that there should be more flow and with a hint of improvisation, something like the Inspector Gadget DVD menu. By the look of it Mike was unaware of the menu, but he quickly start joking about it. I would prefer to have you discuss the topics in a more relaxed environment. Dunno, some beanbags or something more relaxed.

There is also another group that make parodies and stuff, called Mega 64, they have a podcast where are discussing twilight. It was funny as hell and I haven’t seen any of the movies. I know that James is trying more to have a good set (light, sound, ambient) but the content could be improved a bit without losing what he is trying to achieve.

Easter actually was practiced by the Christians as early as the second century and was an extension of the Jewish Passover hence why in most non-Anglo tongues it is called some variant of Pesach (The Passover Holiday). The idea being that just as the freedom from Egyptian rule and subsequent Exodus led to the Ten Commandments (the first major contract between Yahweh and the Hebrews as a people) the death of Jesus symbolized the new contract building on the old forged between Yahweh and the human race (A “New Testament” if you will), As such much of it’s symbolism comes from there.

The Easter Egg came from the tradition of the Beitzah (a hard boiled egg eaten at the Seder representing sacrifice). The Easter Bunny is actually a secular tradition dating back to the middle ages (the Spring Rabbit hunts). The hunt for eggs came about many centuries later in an attempt to tone down the rabbit hunts. The colored eggs just were a fun thing to do (and made them easier to find).

maybe jesus was the alien that implanted his alian baby in a bunny, but he wass hang on a cross because of his sin, That is hwy you have to chase the bunny and eats the eggs, That could explain why there arnt anymore easter bunnies, And the connection to jesus christ.

And later on jesus was freed by his mothership and beamed on board
That is why its said in the bible ” And thus jesus floated into heaven in a stream of light”

After being treated with all the production values, fun factor and great script and acting on the AVGN series for so many years, I think this new series is pretty bad, and I mean BAD.

We all think at some point that if we could record the funny and pointless conversations we have with our friends it would be funny for anyone to see, but it really wouldn’t. It’s only funny for the people around that table, nothing more.

What’s up with all the anti-criticism? There’s a reason for why the comment field is here, and if James don’t like to get criticized – which I don’t think btw, as I assume he want to know the fans’ honest opinion – don’t you think he would have left a comment on it, or deleted the messages?

None of this is bashing; it’s just plain constructive criticism. Do you think people get success because of lame yes men? Of course, if this show is something James loves and want to continue, none of have something to say, and I don’t think any of the civilized criticizers here are going to keep nagging. So fuck of with all the complaint until James says he don’t want honest feedback.

This site is hands down the best site on the Internet today, I don’t want this to be the start of the downhill.

I love how Mike can’t stop laughing, he’s just sitting there thinking about how ridiculous the conversation is. lol i couldn’t stop laughing either XD

Well two episodes in and so far it’s sorta meh… Lee has said almost zilch in either episode and brings nothing to the table. Susie’s accent, if it’s not legit, sounds horribly cheesy. Personally you guys do better when you’re letting it naturally flow. Like when James and Mike have the three part episode watching the old film reel cartoons. That naturally flowed. It felt like a real conversation. Even when you guys take it to strange places those convos still feel real. The OA series, thusfar feels forced. Like you don’t really have a lot of interesting things to say about the topic of choice. It’s almost as if you come up with the topic and start to shoot but mid-shoot realize, “Yeah this isn’t as interesting as I thought it would be, now what?”

Still have to say I love your work. I watch all of your videos (was geeked about the “Bullshit” video yesterday) and while OA isn’t the best stuff you’ve done, you deserve a hell of a lot of credit for coming up with a lot of terrific content. You find ways to make even things that might seem boring (showing Laserdisc players) interesting enough to want to visit the site to see.

MessiahRp nailed it completely. Susie’s accent just ruins this for me. Lee’s character is useless so far and again, Mike steals the show. This really should just be James and Mike getting drunk on a couch over-analyzing random shit.

These episodes just aren’t working out or even that good/funny. The first one was ok, but this one was just dumb. Come on James and company, we know you can do better than this. Also for Stephanie/Susie, if that’s a fake accent then she really needs to stop using it, if it’s her real voice then not much you or she can do there.

Seriously though, you guys need to try to either make it seem like a “real” topic and discussion and not some stupid theories that even my 8yr old would think is stupid and not funny.

Episode 2 – 1 out of 5 (maybe even .5 out of 5) Yeah, it was that bad and stupid boring….

I usually don’t comment on videos. I originally didn’t have an account here, but I really felt I had to make one just for this.

James, I love your videos and I’ve been watching you as your nerd persona since you first started doing it, but this over-anal-tazer skit is just bad.

It’s something new and I can see what you’re trying to do, but it’s not working. I think it’s time to go back to the drawing board.

  • May 7, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Have to ask this, did you know she was going to put that random russian accent on when you started this? lol It makes it really more bizzare just really wierd is everyone doing some weird character too?, what did i just see here? ….do another one. XD

I like the concept and I think that, for what they are, the episodes are good length-wise and in terms of production values. But like others seem to be trying to say, they lack something. Some snappiness, maybe. Some energy. They’re not as entertaining as they could be.

By the way, the Russian accent might be off (I wouldn’t know, but someone said it was bad), but who fkcuing cares!? It’s funny enough for me. I say keep it up no matter what the a-retentive idiots say.

Anyway, keep it up! This could go somewhere good.

This episode was really bad. The topic wasn’t exciting and the discussion was even worse. When I heard this series was announced, I expected interesting, intellectual conversations but this is just too out there for me.

Sorry James, unless they get better soon, I don’t think I’ll watch many more.
