    Can’t wait for the AVGN Movie now!

    I used to have those Jurassic Park games on the genesis. They were actually a couple of my favorite games (I was really into Jurassic Park when I was a kid). I actually got pretty good at those games, and got very far in them. Don’t remember if I ended up beating them though, they’re tough as hell.

    When you mentioned you were making a movie, I had a feeling you were saving E.T. for it. Glad to see it is in the works. I have really enjoyed all of the different short films you make so I am excited to see a feature-length film.

    Ahh, you finally got around to Jaws. You know, the earliest memory I have of that game was I was in some department store in the US(I’m Canadian) and I recall being in a section that had the game up for display and for play. I think I recall that day also as the day I bought Legacy of the Wizard, and I also recall my brother teasing me about something that I would eventually find out to be Wrecking Crew. Man, I’ve got all sorts of NES related memories. It’s not like today where you can just walk into a store and get a game. No, back then it was an event that was etched into your mind for ever.

    Wow, I guess we know what the Nerd has planned for the movie. I do think this is the perfect time for the break; even the Nerd made a comment in this vid about the poop scthick getting old (and then following up with a funnier joke). AVGN is already a movie-worthy character. Let’s save the best shitty games for the film and see what he can do with them.

    Great video, James! And I just have to say, BEST DAMN CLIFFHANGER IN INTERNET HISTORY!!! Can’t wait for a chance to see the movie. The break in Nerd videos sucks, sure, but it’s going to be well worth the wait.! Besides, there’s more Board James and You Know What’s Bullshit coming this year, and I’m really excited about that. I always thought Board James should be a bigger part of what you do.

    In any case, good luck with the movie! I would gladly do whatever I could do get that bitch a theatrical release!!!

    I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my flash player or something, but I saw “(random blurry colors) The Movie.” I’m assuming from the announcement and peoples comments that it was AVGN The Movie.
    Ever since I saw the video announcing the AVGN movie I knew that the review in it was going to be ET. There’s no other game worthy of an AVGN movie. I am ridiculously excited for this now.

    Good work James, nice video. I think its great that you put some detail into the character of the Nerd, and ET is almost like a weak point to AVGN; like Superman and his Kryptonite, the Nerd can’t stand to play one of the most hated games of the 20th century, and honestly, one of the attributing reasons of the video game crash of ’83.

    I wish you good luck in your feature film effort. Hope everything goes according to plan and without a hitch during development.

    it was kind of predictable something was going on with et when he took the game box. then i expeted he would talk about et on a continued video, or maybe delay i. anyways, the drama was really funny, and continuing it in the movie gets me really really excited. i hope it might be done by 2013 or less. Is this the last nerd episode untill the movie?

    Awesome concept for an episode, James.

    I like the first Jaws film (I have the 30th anniversary DVD), the 2nd film is a bit of a rehash, and the 3rd and 4th films are crap …just like all the Jaws games.

    I’m one of those people who likes “Hook.”

    Super Schindler’s List 3-D. Man, that was hilarious and unexpected.

    Man, there were alot of games based on the first Jurassic Park film, but that was to be expected, because it was the biggest film of 1993. I also find the 3DO game weird as Hell.

    I was wondering if it will be E.T. on Atari that you’ll review on your movie. Good luck, and God speed. ;)

    Well looks like the next episode after your little “break” will be about E.T. Still James, i say that you need to make some episodes where you review some PS1 games since i think you’ve only reviewed like 1 or 2 games in that console i believe.

    ha I was like noooooo when you had the cliffhanger at the end. I hope your movie is a huge success and I hope that it is in a theater near me. I would go to see it opening night. I cannot wait for it. I would think that it would get done reasonably fast by movie standards because you already have the script completed but what do I know about making movies. Keep doing what you love and do not work too hard.

    Great, great review. I especially enjoyed this one, as I have played the Genesis Jurassic Park games, and watched someone play through Jaws. My friend beat Jaws in a few hours, maybe less, if I recall. Not exactly a horrible game, but worth the price of an NES cartridge back in the day? Hell no. Rental, maybe.

    Jurassic Park and Rampage Edition for Genesis were both great fun. They do have some issues and BS, but are good games, for the most part. I beat both all the way through with both characters. I didn’t realize the games for the other systems were something totally different! Thanks for the education!

    Ooohhooohoo so we finally see what the AVGN movie will be about. I am looking forward to that. I wish you all the best of luck on this movie venture, and we’ll be pulling for you, man.

    I’ve been watching you since the Angry Nintendo Nerd days on Youtube, years ago… and I’ve also loved your other videos you’ve done… this will be the pinnacle! Oh man, it will be awesome! Can’t wait, man!

    Since James made the video update on “future AVGN plans” I knew E.T. was part of it because what better game for the nerd to review than the one that almost destroys an entire industry.

    I had all the SEGA genesis Jurassic Park games and i loved them. I spent many hours replaying them and I thought Rampage was AWESOME!!!! i think you may have been a little harsh.

    Such an excellent episode before the hiatus. Favorite part was the BTTF2 reference, and I must’ve missed the reference to American Movie (guess I’ll have to re-watch sometime).

    Hey, James. You’ve missed Jurassic Park 2: The lost world on Sega. It is got nothing to do with the movie but, it’s one of the best games in sega library and it is worth checking out. Best jurassic park game on old consoles.

    I recently completed Jurassic Park on SNES using savestates/emulator. It always bothered me that I never finished it. The lack of a MAP really pissed me off, but I managed it somehow. Then I was treated to a classic Ocean Software ending, “congratulations, you have completed the game, now fuck off”.

    Holy shit James!!!! I swear, I was just thinking about all the Jurassic Park games today, going through each one in my head. I was looking at an old GamePro on the toilet. It had The Lost World for the Sega Genesis. I was thinking about how SNES and Genesis both had overhead and sidescrolling versions. Jurassic Park for SNES and Lost World for Genesis were both overhead and Jurassic Park plus Rampage Edition for Genesis and Jurassic Park 2 for SNES were both sidescrolling. For Playstation, there was The Lost World plus a Special Edition and Warpath, a fighting dino game like Primal Rage.

    So yea, I was thinking about all this today while taking a shit. No, I am not shitting you. I’m dead fucking serious.

    Let me say this. It was the best way to advertise your movie. There’s no need for a trailer anymore. You just made everyone excited by now.
    First, I thought: “oh shit…he’s going to play it. please don’t play it, I’m not prepared for this yet”
    Then I thought: “oh..he’s just advertising..for the movie maybe?”
    Then at the end” Oh, shit…he took the game out of the box…he’s going to do it!!!”

    This was just perfect! I couldn’t imagine a better way to prepare the fans for this.

    Though I think Jurassic Park games would have been a more appropriate title, I really liked this episode. It was kind of back to the basics style. Though I do wish you talked about the SNES version of Hook (BTW, yes, I like that moivie).

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t there plans for another Jaws game on the NES at sometime? I clearly remember as a kid seeing a screen shot for a totally different Jaws game in the coming soon section of Nintendo Power. I was really excited, but never saw the game made.

    I own a atari 2600 , and I recently found the ET game and played it, good lord I have never played anything as horible as that game its imposible to play, I bet that game got atari to go bankrupt . Any ways good review James and that Snes Jurasic park the chaos continues was awesome I use to play that game with my neighbor when I was a kid for hours it so fing hard

    I own ET. I am probably gonna be the first person to say this, and people are probably gonna criticise me or laugh at me, but I don’t think it’s really as bad as people say.

    I still think it’s a very, very bad game, but I have honestly played worse games. It’s kind of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, which I’ve also played. It’s not as bad as everyone says, but it is still very bad.

    Mind you, I hate Strider for the Mega Drive, so what do I know. :)

    I also have another question for you, James.

    Now that the Nerd is on hold, so that the movie can be made, what does the future hold for a DVD release of these four episodes?

    If you ask me, I think these episodes should be added to the DVD of season 5. That way, the DVD will have 17 episodes, just like the first season. With that, there’s at least 4 hours and 40 minutes of reviewing alone. If you add special features on top of that, you have a decent DVD release. You would have a decent release anyway, even if it was just the 13 episodes of season 5, but adding these four would make sense, considering how the show is pretty much on hold until the movie gets out.

    I don’t know, maybe this isn’t the right place to ask this kind of question, and I’m not sure if either you James, or you Mike, will even see this comment, but I hope you will consider it.

    I was five when my parents brought home an Atari 2600. E.T. was one of the first games I ever owned and was THE first game I ever beat. I tell people this and they usually don’t believe me stating that “The game can’t be beaten.” Lies. I assure you it can and to this day I defend it as NOT the worst game ever made. Ever played Baseball for ATARI? That’s a turd. Pull down on the joystick and swing. Homerun everytime. What the shit is that? The biggest pile of shit I think I’ve ever played was also a Spielberg movie game, and previously reviewed here: Indiana Jones for ATARI. How can anyone think that POS is better than E.T.?

    I liked Jurassic Park for NES and SNES (SNES was once in a while for me back when I was a kid). I wasn’t lucky enough to get Zelda but Jurassic Park was my first over head adventure game. I’m willing to admit not every Jurassic Park game was good, but there is a few actual good ones and can’t wait for the reboot that takes place during/immediately after the first movie.

    Man I remember the pain of Jurassic Park on SNES, no save feature and only 2 weapons that really did efficient damage to the dinos, especially all the bs with collecting everyones keycard and traveling in circles around the map. I recall when I played and beat the game, I had the SNES on for like probably 2 days straight. Also you gotta love how when you win, you’re on the top of the high score list but it doesn’t matter since it goes back to the preset madeup initials once your turn the game off

    I always thought that my joystick was broken while playing ET. I remember playing it, stretching the neck and then nothing. I couldn’t do shit…. I preferred Kangaroo!! LOL

    Jurassic Park is one of my all-time favorite movies. I own the Rampage Edition as well as the SNES game. The SNES Jurassic Park has some kick-fuckin-ass music in it. I agree wholeheartedly that the biggest problem with that game is that it has no save feature. I don’t know how many time’s I’ve sat down to finish it, only to get pulled away.

    Again, awesome episode James, can’t wait for the movie to get in motion!

    Now that’s more like it! Funny, to the point, and full of background. That’s all you really need with an AVGN (nothing real over the top like the 100th). The jokes worked here, and you keep us hooked even after the video. Fantastic. This episode is probably one of my faves now. Like I said before, your complilation vids are the best! Keep ones like this coming James!
    Oh yeah. I also have JP on genesis. And wow is it more fun to play with the raptor! The human dies too quickly. It’s fun a bit later into the game, until you have to figure out how to open doors. (I couldn’t EVER.; which stopped me from beating it). But yeah thanks for talking about it.

    I have an odd story about how I got a hold of Jurassic park part 2 for Snes, I was at the good will and i had no video game systems whatsoever, I saw something that looked like a video game system and my brother asked my dad if we could get it so we checked it out and it was a sega saturn with tomb raider 3 in it, but we thought the games went in the memory slot, they hade jurrasic park part 2 there so they gave it to us for free. now skip 6 years later we have a Snes and I pop that game in, I experienced that same problem and I found out 1 year later how to get past it.

    I honestly don’t understand the aversion to E.T. It’s actually a pretty good game, well ahead of it’s time. I had it as a kid and I really enjoyed it.

    The only change I’d make would be to AND CXP0FB on 0×40 a scan line or so before the end of the E.T. sprite to let the player walk in front of the wells. (In Zelda, for example, you’ll find that you can walk halfway “into” blocks while walking up, but not while walking down. This change would have the same effect.)

    That one minor flaw aside, it’s a great game.

    Let’s hope that James takes the high-road and puts the “E.T. sucks” myth to rest.

    Hehe I remember those Jurassic Park games. My cousin had one for the SNES and whenever I’d go to his house (which wasn’t very often since he lived like 2 hours away haha) we’d throw that fucker in and play until we got pissed off when we got stuck on the exact same place every time.

    If you play Jurassic Park 2 for the SNES and you disable the foreground layer, you can actually see the arrow in the first screen that the bush was covering. What a load of ass.

    The sad thing is, the best Jurassic Park game I ever played was the handheld standalone that I won from Chuckie Cheese’s. It was just black pixels over a holographic like background (hard to describe). But anyways, all you did was climb trees and avoid the oncoming dinosaurs and continuously press down to “run away” from them. Even though as black pixelated sprites, they looked like they were running in place.

    DON,T PLAY E.T. If you do, bring any protective gear for emotional needs. That game drove my dad crazy when he was young. My grandmother is still annoyed from him screaming, another hole! I actually burnt that game by accident when i was at my cousin’s bonfire. Like James, my cousin has a crap load of old games in his basement. He got bad eyesight from testing his Virtual Boy he got from a pawn shop.

    I think the problem with the episode getting all glitchy near the end only occurs when you watch the streaming version on GameTrailers. I downloaded the QuickTime version of the video and it played back perfectly, without any problems. Screw you, Glitch Gremlin!

    I guess, with the movie being your main focus, we’ll have to do without new Nerd episodes for the coming months… It’s going to be really hard, but we’ll get through SOMEHOW. :-) Seriously though, good luck with your efforts.

    I remember that Jaws game when I was a kid. My friends parents bought it for him for Christmas. We stopped playing it because we couldn’t figure out how to get past the two docks
    (thought it was an adventure game). What a depressing game. I remember his mom was like “That game was expensive” and “Your not going to get another game for Christmas”. Then I remember his dad saying “I’m going to play it if you don’t”. I remember we started to play it for like 10 minutes right after she said that and then said “fuck it” and went outside. After coming back we seen his dad playing it (probably trying to encourage us to give it a shot). Afterward, that same day his dad came up to us and said to my friend “Just play the game one more time in front of your mother”. We asked if he liked the game. I remember this EXACT response, “You don’t have to play it anymore, but after your mother forgets about it, trade it to a friend for a movie or baseball cards or something because the game was expensive”.

    LJN is such a fucking destroyer of good times and happiness and possibly even future Christmas’ for families.

    I think it’s terrible how many people feel the need to voice their shitty opinions about how they think James isn’t doing a good enough job, or that he shouldn’t be taking a break from AVGN to work on other projects. JAMES AND MIKE ARE DOING IT FOR FREE, AND WITH VERY LITTLE OUTSIDE HELP! Think of all the garbage you pay for. Are you really gonna bitch about the free stuff? Really??

    Most of you people have never tried doing anything creative in your life, and can’t even begin to wrap your mind around what it takes to keep a project like this going on a small budget. I, for one, look forward to ANYTHING he puts on this site. It’s a privilege to have someone this talented who is willing to take his free time to make these awesome videos. And what does half of his fanbase do? Comment on his site about how shitty of a job they think he’s been doing! It disgusts me…

    Now don’t get me wrong, constructive criticism helps. However, a lot of you are just hating. So, if you can’t say something nice or helpful, go get ass fucked by polar bear on meth and let your grandparents watch! That’s about all you’re worth….

    This episode remembered the classic ones. Brilliant. I work with motion graphics and what I could say is that you’re awesome at video edition. Your way to edit makes your reviews so interesting, so unique. Nowadays, it’s hard to find something as original. I always have a good time watching your reviews.     I had the SNES Jurrasic Park game as a kid. I never knew where to go except collect eggs and shoot dinosaurs. It was pretty fun and the music was awesome. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the movie and other projects. I miss You Know Whats Bullshit and Board James. Keep it up! Everything you do kicks ass!

I’m thinking of doing my own game reviews on the internet, but mine are going to be computer games. My question is, can I use “angry” in the name? i’m thinking of “angry computer game nerd.” don’t know if i’ll have a theme song, but if I do, it won’t be like yours. so can i use ACGN?

    Heh, you actually almost had me with the “Super Schindler’s List 3D.” Just for a second. The part I probably liked best from the Jurassic Park was the 3DO version for how surreal it was, plus your responses to all the strange elements. The end was clearly setting up for the next episode, but felt a little soft. Not bad, but a little loose. Seeing that weird game cover near the end was special, though. Gotta love shitty cover art.

    I hope James makes a joke out of ET. My brother suggested that the whole film will be a build up to the ET review, with the Nerd ultimately saying it isn’t all that bad. I doubt that will happen, but it will be funny. I hope the film will be about the Nerd trying to find ways to play and review the game, but at the same time finding ways to avoid doing it. I’m gonna watch Rocky and Wayne’s world back to back, because I’ve seen Rocky, and if James makes the film like that, I can see how the film is gonna work. It starts with him reviewing games, maybe recaps of old reviews, but then the film is about building up to ET, with the climax of the film being the review. If that’s how it will turn out, then the film will be pretty awesome. I doubt it’s going to be the best film ever made, but it’s certainly gonna be a great one.

    @Freaknut: The E.T. Atari game is one of the most INFAMOUSLY bad video games EVER created. It’s had this reputation for over a decade at least. Maybe longer, but I can’t remember exactly when the legend started among mainstream gamers. I know for a fact because of how bad this game is, it sold poorly and is one of the reasons Atari went under in the 80s, and brought the home video game market down with it until Nintendo resurrected the market with the NES.

    Yeah, it had to be ET. To make an AVGN movie that will have a game review in it, you kind of need a game worthy of the web-series.
    But I’ve read that ET is not that bad. Will James rip it apart with gruesome comments and give it the worst punishment he ever gave to a game? And then, will he be traumatized with it throughout the movie and try to learn how to live with himself after the horrible experience? Well, if I know James like most people, he’ll probably make one great and inspired story, whatever happens in it.

    Just for fun you should watch, even if you dont understand french (i think), a review from “le joueur du grenier ” on jurassic park games.
    On the last half of the video, he reviews a 3D pc jurassic park game, with a really odd physic engine. Its like every characters move like their made of rubber and the AI is so fucking retarded… it’s a fucking hilarious mess!

    Not so keen on seeing a E.T. review in the movie. It’s NOT a good game, but there are far, far worst out there.

    Jurassic Park II: The Chaos Continues was a BITCH to me. I tried playing that game so many damn times because the music in it was AWESOME, as well as with Jurassic Park SNES, but at least THAT game was BEATABLE! Jurassic Park II was just….A nightmare. Ugh, sucks too because that game reminded me a lot of like a 2D Turok 2: Seeds of Evil for N64? It’s awesome the first few levels, then it just becomes ridiculous. I like how you can tackle different missions anytime ya want, yeah, but that still doesn’t fix the absurd difficulty at areas like….The, BLOCKADE!!! Grrrrfffnurfit!!! *rants horribly for an hour*

    Oh Gametrailers.com… how I fuckin’ hate you. Taking a break from work, and watching this video again and about halfway through the webpage just decides to reload and start playing the next GT video. So not only do their advertisements freeze up the AVGN video about a minute in, but it just randomly goes to the next vid if you don’t turn the ‘continuous play’ off.     I got a game that proves your first statement wrong. Labyrinth on the Famicom, its a great game, and it has been translated into English so you can get it on a NES reproduction cartridge. Its hard as shit though.

    very nice review, but I think you left out some of the old jurassic park games, I know you were reviewing some of them but the old PC ones were pretty gamn good, there is one called Danger Zone and another called Dino Defender, I’m sure there are more but those are the two I remeber and a third one but it may be the one which is unplayable, anyway, great review, and have a nice day

    Is it just me, or does the kid on the cover of the E.T. box look like Chunk from The Goones? Goonies, another Spielberg movie that spawned a shitty video game. And weirdly enough, the game isn’t called Goones, but rather Goonies II, which makes you think there is was a Goonies I game, but there wasn’t on the NES. The game is a sequal to a movie. WTF!!!???!!!

    I played the Super NES and Genesis version of Jurrasic park and found the genesis much easier. The Super NES was okay at least the first person shooter part was good. One thing I didn’t understand about it though was why the dinosaurs you encountered in buildings didn’t come after you like they do outside. They just stand there and stare at you and don’t even attack unless you get to close. I mean why did we have to wait for Doom to get enemies like that in a first person shooter game, because the enemies in Doom when they saw you they were on you like white on rice.

But I, for example, live in Russia (and i’m pretty sure there’s a lot of nerd fans all around the world, including remote areas of Sahara desert), and what are the chances of AVGN:The Movie being released in theaters in Russia, or Brazil, or Germany… well, anywhere outside US? F*cking zero! So it would be really nice to have a movie online – not for free, but online, so everyone can see it.

    The ET game was so bad that it, together with the huge amount of consoles that were really just either Atari copies or pong consoles, caused a video game crash.

      Basically, it was such a huge disappointment that people either wouldn’t buy it at all or sent it back to Atari. It was that bad, and it was expected to sell pretty well. It was a huge loss, and contributed to causing the video game crash of 1983, together with the Atari port of Pac-Man, and of course also all of the games developed for all of the consoles released around that time. It just got to the point where people weren’t really interested in buying new consoles, and stores just could not sell anything, resulting in many big companies from that time going bankrupt.

      Then the NES came out. It revived the game industry.

    I remember the Game Gear version of Jurassic Park. It’s was actually really fun to play. Even the Lost World sequel (which thankfully didn’t have much to do with the movie) was very good. At the very least they are a testament that, several years down the line, a movie can become a good video game and not just a cheap, pre-movie-release abomination.

    Feel like a moron. I hit stop as soon as the screen read TBC, and missed the part where it mentions the movie. No idea why everyone on here is complaining.

    I had atari 2600 clone from street vendors and played many games that I identify now in AVGN videos on Atari or nintendo consoles :-D D so yes I played toads.. and manic miner.. and even ET ;-DD long before I know its ET..

    About how Peter’s sword is so short in “Hook”…I haven’t seen “Hook” in particular, but I believe Peter Pan’s “sword” is actually a knife. (reference: Peter and the Starcatchers)

    I loved Jurassic Park as a kid. It was an awesome game. What killed it was that you can’t save. Nobody wants to play a game, get really far, die, and then have to start all over. Usually once you die you’re too pissed to even want to do all of the work again.
    Also, Peter Pan had a sword in the movie Hook. He also never got hurt by touching water. In fact he always made out with mermaids when he was in the water so if anything the water should heal him or something.

    I won’t be very popular for saying this but I can’t stand Final Fantasy games and that hunk of junk Jaws games is a perfect example of why I hate them. You go from a to b, level up and constantly get into random battles that infuriate me. Okay, so you can make it look stunning and put a nice story over the top but when it boils down to the bones, they are the same piles of steaming dog crap.

    I actually liked jurassic park.It was one of my favorite games on my japanese nintendo(the famicom).Its nice and has good music- far from a great game but for me its playable and enjoyable contrary to what James says about it.As for Jaws another game I played as a kid – it sucks ASS.I got it from a friend in exchange for Super C(got bored of it and had another copy) and boy did I get some colossal shit…
