Surreal drawings

James / March 27th, 2011

In school, I always had a habit of drawing in my note books. It’s pretty weird. You can tell it’s inspired from German expressionist cinema. I hope one day to make a B&W horror film in this style.

This one is heavily inspired by the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

This one was from college, when I was trying to work on a budget for my senior film, Legend of the Blue Hole. As you can see, the budget planning got a little side-tracked. The scribbles came first, before the drawings.

This one, you’ve probably seen already, but might as well include it with the surreal stuff. It’s Indian paint on scratch board, (around age 13) based on nightmares I had.

Wow, all of them looked good, and I like the last one, looks really good.

I really wish I could draw that well. You can easily tell what the drawings were inspired by. If anyone could pull off a modern B&W horror film in that style, it would be you.

You are feeding us like birds…

I miss the time where you use to do multiple videos like “you know what’s bullshit?” and the “shit pickles” series.

The third one reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite! Hahahaha

Does anyone can explain me why James still didn’t get a high budget for his great work? So talented guy! Awesome. Please, donate him!

Glad to see that your drawings are awesome, because your math isnt so well. haha Hate to be that person and correct something completely irrelevent, but you added the stuff wrong on your list, $5,300 not $5,200.

But anyways, it looks awesome! I like the one on the bottom, rather than black lines its the complete opposite with white lines, giving it sort of a night time dream like feel. Looks amazing.

Creepy. Dig the budget on the yellow page. I love to see that kind of minutia.

Ah, when I saw the drawing in your budget plan. I found it funny that a dragon was just right there. I mean when you think “how much money will I need?” Then I guess you get, “oh yeah a dragon…” Better then most of the crap I would have drawn though. Good job for getting sidetracked?

  • March 28, 2011 at 4:41 am

the figure at the top of the scratchboard drawing kind of reminds me of Orlock from Nosferatu. As a kid I had reoccurring nightmares that he was chasing me through the castle! shit sucked haha.

    James,

I would love to have any of 1, 2, or 4 hanging on my wall. Well, other than the notebook background on 1 & 2. 4 in particular is magnificent. I enjoy your AVGN vids, but perhaps you have missed your calling.

Wow. For me, for a kid had drawn something like that, its really unique. You got some imaginations there, I could tell that (^^)

Thank you very much for sharing this…

$450 for “misc.”? That’s a huge chunk of the budget to go unspecified, isn’t it (the largest single category outside the expensive camera)?

James, you counted wrong on The Legend of the Blue Hole budget.

    it’s:
    2 1
    _ _
    3,500
    400
    100
    250
    400
    200
    450
    +________
    5,300

    but great drawings anyway!

  • April 8, 2011 at 2:57 am

Haha wow, I do the exact same shit when I’m at school. All my notes have some random ass drawings like dragons or pokemon or ass-monsters… I’d upload some for you to see but my printer/scanner broke 😮
The chick who sits next to me sometimes catches me drawing random shit and says “WTF is that lmao” haha. Ahh, college doodling ftw
But fuck, none of my drawings are as epic as yours >:O Especially the one with twisting stairs and all that… my doodles are mostly cartoons and shit… and A LOT of stick figures lmao.

    Peace.
