Before I even watch it I just want to say how happy I am that its ROB and not ET. Of course if there’s an ET cameo I’ll feel dumb. Time to go watch it then…
Congrats on 6 years and 100 episodes man. I hope you continue to torture yourself with this doo doo diarrhea bullshit for our entertainment for many more years to come. I lost my bet on E.T., But the fuckin’ gyro part had me pissin’ myself, so all is well.
This just made my day. Thank you so much for continuing to give your fans your best. You truly are a diamond in the rough when it comes to the internet. Congrats on 100!
Nice one nerd! Looking back over the years of shitty games, and finally battling out with the Robot himself. I guess this is technically a sequel to the NES Accesories episode then?
This was amazing!! I’ve been watching AVGN for a few years now, and they’ve been making me laugh ever since. I had to register just to comment on this one. Hope you had as much fun making this as it was to watch!
oh shit, and by the way, I got the sense throughout this that it’s a bit of a premonition of what to expect from the AVGN movie…and if that’s the case, it definitely gets me hyped. I was a bit skeptical if this 10-20 minute show could translate into a full-length feature film, but after watching this episode I really feel psyched to see what kind of crazy shit you’ve got up your sleeve for the movie. This is kind of reminiscent of the Mr. Bucket video, and really shows that you’re on top of your shit in a cinematic sense lately.
Woah that was AWESOME!!!!! You definitely went all out for your 100th episode and it shows!!! Congratulations!!!!! You far succeeded my expectations!!! The flashback scene was perfect–the whole video was amazing. Thank you so much for all the great years of the Nerd–here’s to many more!
Great episode. Truly captured the heart of the Nerd, and how bad games create variety. Shows how the Nerd, despite hating all the bad games, loves them at the same time.
We can’t live without shitty games.
Hooray for shitty games!
Great work James…Love it…Keep up the good work..My brother and i are working on a website of our own .It will have skits and short animations of our design. The site is still under construction but here is a link if anybody wants to view one of the animations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRwg3ZtDVCY
Oh, and as a fellow filmmaker, I have to say great job with the whole fight scene. Not just with the special effects (we all know that special effects don’t make a movie) but with the incredible sense of pacing that made the action scenes epic and intense, and the temporary “death” of the Nerd and the subsequent flashbacks felt unexpectedly emotional (definitely an awesome first for your NERD videos). Also the camera angles really emphasized what you were going for, especially that awesome long Zoom over the Nerd’s body. Let me know if you guys need any help with the Nerd movie: barring my schedule and other things I’d love to help in some way!
I have two YouTube bookmark folders. One for all the video creators I love (AVGN, Brentalfloss, NathanJBarnatt (Talking Classics), InecomCompany (Classic Game Room), ClanOfTheGrayWolf (Amazing, youtube..)), etc.
I also have another one that is JUST stuff that is updated often like InecomCompany where he makes at least a video a day.
I ACCIDENTALLY opened the one with AVGN. This month and last month I was REALLY caught off guard with new episodes. It used to be that I knew that .. around the first thursday or friday the new episode would be up but for some reason I keep thinking it’s we are half way through the current month, not at the beginning of a new one, so I only happen to check on chance.
But it’s a good thing. Otherwise, I used to freak out checking every day anticipating and waiting for the new episode. It’s much better to accidentally land on it and be all “YYYYYYEESTHHHH.”
But .. man, Episode 100. I’m afraid to read any channel comments because they tend to make me sad before I watch the episode these days. While there are a BUNCH of amazing shows these days (see above for just a few), that James certainly helped gain footage tremendously, for some reason.. Cinemassacre shows always hit me in a way that others don’t.
Anyway, Congrats on Episode 100 James! I honestly can’t believe this -> 2004-2011.. .. wow.
I was actually a kid when this came out and I remember the robot very well. Every thing you said nailed it, its exactly like that unfortunatly but when I was a kid it still seemed awesome and new having a robot play games with you,. This has to be the most epic Nerd video yet, you have truley outdid yourself with this one. I am speechless.
Fantastic episode, had me rolling! Great special fx! During the end battle I was waiting for someone to knock over a pagoda;P I’m psyched to see you guys finally went widescreen too. Really gave it that cinematic feel. Congrats on 100 episodes and here’s to many more!
Absolutely fantastic job James! You wen’t all out and really made a perfect 100th episode. I loved how it was never even addressed in actual words, just the epic scope of it made it so perfect.
I was having lots of problems with Firefox and Flash today, so the only way I could watch the new Nerd is by downloading Opera. Firefox got Firefux’d and hopefully by tomorrow it will be Firefix’d.
Wow… I must say James, that was the best episode you’ve ever done. Using ROB as a villain was genius, and the cheezy special effects and climactic plot pulled the idea off brilliantly. Is this the end of AVGN? You got real talent man, lets see some bigger projects!
I have been waiting for Rob the robot since he peeked from behind you in the NES accessories review. This was an awesome episode. Thank you James for all the laughs over the years.
The story is well written and it wasent predictable. The effects was incredable and the blood in your face made me laugh it was silly looking. And since the first episode you have become somewhat of a “good b-actor”.
Thank you for all good laughs. And all i hope is that you continue and evolve. You are a true internet hero for all of us.
Since my comment on GameTrailers will probably never be seen, I’ll re-iterate here, but I’ll just write it better (and I’ll say more too…).
I’m very slightly disappointed here, since you went, like every other reviewer who reviewed R.O.B, with the “R.O.B is evil” angle, BUT I’m glad that you took a more serious approach with the idea, it wasn’t JUST for comedic effect. The few jokes that were thrown in were interesting (I never thought you’d go and actually make a gyro… I’m happy to see that you can still be funny in these videos without having to talk about animal shit), and I really like the message you’re trying to convey here… Very nice stuff.
One thing for sure, I’m happy you didn’t go for reviewing E.T… I’m not sure the episode could have been really interesting, since there’s really not that much to talk about with that game. What would be interesting however, rather than just talking about E.T in one episode, would be an episode dedicated to the video game crash of 1983, but concentrating on the various games and other elements that caused it…. Think about it More than enough to get “Angry Nerd” about in there.
Also, I do agree with you that Mario is the hero that saved the industry… but it would be very wrong to completely discredit R.O.B as having a part in saving it. He was, after all, the key that enabled to NES to be sold at retail, without him the NES wouldn’t have found its way to stores so fast and the gaming industry would have stayed dead in America for maybe a few more years. But I think you know that already, the whole Mario thing in the video was more for dramatic effect… I think.
Oh man, that was fucking incredible James. So epic. That shit with the gyro. Oh my God I had to pause the video to laugh for about five minutes on that shit man. Genius. Congratulations on AVGN 100 man, I love your work. The absolute awesomeness of this video makes the wait for #101 even harder.
HOLY SHIT, THATS AWSOME!!! Man, i’d really be pissed if some robot came to my room and terminated every video game in the world
(except for those two) before my very own eyes.
ps. Why are the passwords so long to Cinemassacre.com, i mean you hated it yourself so put it on your homepage? Where you feeling nostalgic?
Don’t go to the dark side…
Epic episode! It was just the perfect 100th video! I loved everything, the music composed by John Jennings Boyd and Lachlan Barclay was perfect, the editing of the video, the title card by motherfucker Mike as usually perfect, the NES music (Super Metroid and Blaster Master did it for me), the drama, everything was perfect. Congratulations for the 100th video. Hope to see more AVGN soon! Good job James.
Way to exceed the high expectations we all had for number 100. Impressive on all fronts! I love your episodes where you feature a villain. ROB is up there with the Glitch Gremlin and Bugs!
Cutting up two NES controllers to use at once was genius. I remember some tetris modes where one player would move left and right and the other would flip the blocks.
The music at the end while embracing the NES games and the last glance at the Castlevania box… wow, was extremely moving. Even the long shot of AVGN lying down seemingly ‘dead’ before the black and white flashbacks… all moods/scenarios I’d LOVE to see in the AVGN movie.
Even though the entire situation may be comedic it’s still engaging to just go with it and see AVGN almost die and then summon the strength to fight back and win for his love (?) of playing terrible games. I was pulled in like any good movie would keep me interested until the end.
Excellant work james and congrats on your 100 avgn. ive been watching your show since the beginning and i gotta say thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to your fans,
I have watched you since 08 and I gotta say, this is more like it man… I really hope you start pumpin out at least 2-3 a month again, we all really love these.
People who want to know what makes AVGN stick out from the other video game reviewers: this. Great job as always James, feel free to o a bottle of champagne.
Several years ago, i went to a game store in Omaha and they had a ROB converted into one of those take a penny leave a penny trays. I thought it was pretty funny.
Fuckin’ brilliant. Keep it up James, you mother fuckers never disappoint. By the way, whoever was in charge of making it look like R.O.B. beat the shit out of you and broke your nose did an amazing job. The blood on your face and the bruises look very realistic. Also, good job with the game controllers, Ed Wood would be proud.
absolutely awesome episode! Haven’t seen one with this level of special effects in a long time. I thought this was the end of the nerd for a bit there. That was intentional wasn’t it?
I think, that was the greatest battle featuring anything Nintendo I’ve seen in my whole entire life! I really thought The Nerd was going to die. Can’t wait for the next episode. And, I noticed something was different in the video, can anyone help me out to what it was?
The climax almost made me tear up, damn!! This is one of the best AVGN videos. The anger was spot on, and the comedy was definitely there. I hope you guys don’t mind checking out my celebration video; thanks!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuCYwwPmyAc
Fucking amazing! I’ve been watching since late 2008, when I stumbled upon your Friday the 13th review while looking up something for the remake. Just gotta say you’re the best damn thing on the net. Congratulations on the 100th episode!!! Absolutely awesome in every way, James! Can’t wait for the next one!
@Jacob – I think what’s different about the video is the production of it. From the lighting to the color correction, etc. Then again he could be using a new camera it looks more crisp and HDish.
and James by far one of the best pieces you have done. I always loved Legend of the Blue Hole and Mr. Bucket. I hoped if you did a ROB video it would end up like those videos as in a horror type story and low and behold here it is.
lol I did not see that coming. It was sooner or later that the NERD fought something Godzilla style!
Also glad to see you didn’t do E.T. It’s been discussed to death, there’s not much to say content wise and everyone’s expectations are probably unreasonable at this point.
Also, I would love to see a NeoGeo or Turbo Graphix 16 recap similar to your Jaguar and CD-I videos or MegaMan marathon similar to the Castlevania games. These action episodes are fun, but I find myself watching the historically oriented ones repeatedly, like the Zelda Timeline and most recent Star Wars episode. Also, I never got a chance to place NeoGeo (like many kids) due to its outrageous price and only remember Keith Courage and Bonk from the TG16, so it’d be fun to see what those systems were all about.
HOLY CRAP! Just… just… WOW! I have no words! That was…. awesome! Quite possibly one of, if not the best AVGN’s yet! How did you do those special effects with ROB and the controllers? Man… maybe I don’t want to know how!
The reviews of the games themselves were hilarious. Especially since you went to the trouble to actually set up ROB and so we actually get to see how he works with the games! I have to say, it’s pretty cool, but I don’t know if it’s really worth all the trouble and money. Not to mention… your home made Gyromite controller was just funny and great at the same time!
I’m blown away! This 100th episode was great in the comedy, review, effects… everything department! As a long time fan who has watched you since the Nintendo Nerd days, and appreciates your other work as well, I have to say you did not disappoint here! GREAT JOB, MR. ROLFE!
I was So happy to see the finally see The Nintendo Battle Gear make an epic comeback. Especially loved how you wore the U-Force as a lower region armor.
Wow James… THIS is the greatest achievement of mankind since the wireless controller! Congratulations to this episode. I think its the best you’ve ever done including the non-AVGN stuff.
This has got to be one of my top favourite episodes EVER. Great job, James! Thank you for making it this far!! …And thank you for saving the shitty games from R.O.B.!!

Keep up the awesome work!

The pen totally hit Fester’s Quest, though, not Gyromite. Now that I’ve pointed this out, you will have to do a revisit of that one!

Now for a question… Do you REALLY own that many copies of Gyromite and Stack-up? and if so, how much did they cost you?
March 3, 2011 at 1:16 am
Entertaining episode, well put together. Sick title card. AVGN goes hard.
March 3, 2011 at 1:17 am

Even though the entire situation may be comedic it’s still engaging to just go with it and see AVGN almost die and then summon the strength to fight back and win for his love (?) of playing terrible games. I was pulled in like any good movie would keep me interested until the end.
Here’s to 100 more episodes!

March 3, 2011 at 1:39 am

March 3, 2011 at 1:39 am

March 3, 2011 at 1:40 am
Several years ago, i went to a game store in Omaha and they had a ROB converted into one of those take a penny leave a penny trays. I thought it was pretty funny.
March 3, 2011 at 1:41 am
Fuckin’ brilliant. Keep it up James, you mother fuckers never disappoint. By the way, whoever was in charge of making it look like R.O.B. beat the shit out of you and broke your nose did an amazing job. The blood on your face and the bruises look very realistic. Also, good job with the game controllers, Ed Wood would be proud.
March 3, 2011 at 1:44 am
absolutely awesome episode! Haven’t seen one with this level of special effects in a long time. I thought this was the end of the nerd for a bit there. That was intentional wasn’t it?
March 3, 2011 at 1:47 am
Great episode… missed opportunity though to not say “fire!” with the LaserScope.
March 3, 2011 at 1:47 am
rob the robot is a peace of crap but it is also an expensive collectors item and vary rare. So it’s shit plated in gold.
March 3, 2011 at 1:49 am
Awesome episode guys! Funny and exciting with great special effects!
March 3, 2011 at 1:51 am
I think, that was the greatest battle featuring anything Nintendo I’ve seen in my whole entire life! I really thought The Nerd was going to die. Can’t wait for the next episode. And, I noticed something was different in the video, can anyone help me out to what it was?
March 3, 2011 at 1:51 am
The climax almost made me tear up, damn!! This is one of the best AVGN videos. The anger was spot on, and the comedy was definitely there. I hope you guys don’t mind checking out my celebration video; thanks!!

That was fucking amazing. One of your best videos ever. I’m totally speechless now.
March 3, 2011 at 2:11 am
Excellent episode.
Did have a question though…what was the visor shown in the beginning, immediately after the Virtual Boy? Never seen it before.
March 3, 2011 at 2:16 am
Fucking amazing! I’ve been watching since late 2008, when I stumbled upon your Friday the 13th review while looking up something for the remake. Just gotta say you’re the best damn thing on the net. Congratulations on the 100th episode!!! Absolutely awesome in every way, James! Can’t wait for the next one!
March 3, 2011 at 2:16 am
hehe told you guys he would do R.O.B.
March 3, 2011 at 2:17 am
Amazing episode! You guys rock!
March 3, 2011 at 2:20 am
@Jacob – I think what’s different about the video is the production of it. From the lighting to the color correction, etc. Then again he could be using a new camera it looks more crisp and HDish.
and James by far one of the best pieces you have done. I always loved Legend of the Blue Hole and Mr. Bucket. I hoped if you did a ROB video it would end up like those videos as in a horror type story and low and behold here it is.
Fantastic work! My hat is off to you!
March 3, 2011 at 2:22 am
The episode was great. I just gotta ask though, who was “Mrs.” in your special thanks?
March 3, 2011 at 2:22 am
Gee is good to see you are back to your former self!
WELCOME BACK NERD!
As long as the nerd lives here and James in the real world everything is fine!
March 3, 2011 at 2:24 am

March 3, 2011 at 2:30 am
‘grats on the 100th vid. So what’s gonna come for the 10 year mark?
March 3, 2011 at 2:33 am
ROB ^^
i had one at home.
This one will be great
March 3, 2011 at 2:34 am
lol I did not see that coming.
Thanks and keep up the great work James and Mike!
March 3, 2011 at 2:38 am
AWesome! Congrats on 100 episodes. Here’s to 100 more! Cheers, T
March 3, 2011 at 2:38 am
ROLFE!
March 3, 2011 at 2:39 am
I just loved this episode, but I do have to questions.
1.Did you purposely put this up during Carnivale?
2. Who is “Mrs.” during the credits?
March 3, 2011 at 2:42 am
This was beautiful.
March 3, 2011 at 2:44 am
