Hey James, I hope you’re reading this because here’s a suggestion for next years monster movie reviews:
Horror/Monster movie sequels (the good and the bad though I’m sure mostly bad)
There are so many memorable (or hilariously bad) sequels out there I’d like to see you dedicate next Halloween to them. I know that’s a year away but hey – I’m a patient person.
Anybody else like this idea post a comment with “Monster Movie Sequels 2011!!!”
Hello James and you guys I am from Japan.
Well, in the 1986, we couldn’t have katana swords.
And also the Japnanese closet are not like those.
Oh, you guys knew it? excuse me lol
You know a great campy slasher movie you could do? Shocker.
Not only is it made by Wes Craven, but it’s also got an awesome Megadeth song, and it’s about a villain that kills people by possessing their souls with lightning, FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE!
whats funny is the little boy with glasses is Paul Walker from fast and furious and running scared the the little girl looking in the closet is fucking fergie from the black eye peas:-p hard to believe where people get their starts but hey! gotta start somewhere right?
LMAO! Troma is the king of CRAP! But I love that shit!
Would’ve loved to have seen “Redneck Zombies” in here, because that is a real turd lol!
I saw one comment talking about Monster Madness for 2011 and sequels. Not a bad idea, but I’d love to see you do Monster Madness on the Italian, or just foreign horror, in general.
I had this on while I was working. What I saw of it looked stupid so I almost deleted it from my Netflix queue. Now I think I will give it another chance and my full attention. Thanks, James.
Wow, That monster looks like shit, lol Seems like an interesting movie, sort of, the monster is really ugly, eww, he looks like poop, I really wish the monster looked better because this seems like a great idea for a movie, really good idea because we all fear the closet at night, and it could have been a good monster movie, But the creature is too fucking ugly for me to be able to watch it, I don’t think I could stand looking at that thing for too long,
Why was he taking the guy? I wish you told us more about that, did the monster do something to the guy?
I remember watching this movie and nearly laughing my ass off.
You should definitely do a review special on all the Troma Films.
BTW
keep up the great work
I never had a monster in my closet, I had a monster outside my bedroom window. I was big, red, and always grinning.
(Yes, I still remember ever since I was ,like, 4.)
Let’s get this straight. Does anybody in the movie explain, HOW the monster forms the portal, and WHY in the closet? Why cant it materialize, say, in the basement? No? Then fuck this irrational piece of shit.
James, it would be mega cool if you make a special episode about Tarman, the most awesome zombie in history.
I’ve always wanted James to talk about Troma. Lloyd Kaufman is my filmmaking idol. I’m still disappointed that he didn’t talk about Toxic Avenger though. That shit’s classic; and it had 4 sequels. Oh god. Good stuff, good stuff.
no mention of Fergie? what about they guy that played on the fast and the furious? how bout this being one of the only pg rated Troma movies i can think of? Troma is the essence of independent film making, don’t they deserve at least half as much love as you gave “Fright Night?”
Still a fan, but not everything has to be spielberg, or lucas. youre a litlte guy thats on the cusp of making it, give the little guys that really have made it there moment to.
James, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I’m so happy you reviewed it. I got to say though I love the fact that the monster takes the guy, as it is ridiculously rare in comparison to see a “damso” in distress. Movie is hilarious!
^^ You beat me to it, I was going to mention the aliens from “Howard the Duck” It would be funny if he reviewed that movie but I doubt it.
We are coming up on the 90′s and I think he HAS to do “The Guyver”! it would fit this month’s Monster Madness perfectly, and how can you deny the awesomeness of Mark Hamill turning into a giant alien cockroach lol! I have a feeling this one is on the list.
It’s funny when people ask for shitstupid things like “rational explanations” in monster movies. On the one hand it’s already dumb just for the subject matter if you want to be so technical and regardless of that, having everything explained to you ruins the fun a lot of the time. Those who demand to be handed everything to them over explaining every detail in a movie are gits.
lol at the monster is gay, not that there is anything wrong with being gay, haha. Also WTF at the people destroying their closets, movie seems pretty shitty to me, haha.
Good Lord… I remember catching this on a U.S.A. “Up All Night” showing with my dad back in the early 90s. I’ll never forget that face. I’m really enjoying this Monster Mash, James. Thanks!!
haha i remember watching this with my mom and my brother as a kid, we laughed our asses of, it’s such an absurd movie, i can’t believe you left the scene with the granny destroying her closet with a flame thrower out, and wow, the ending is probably the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever seen in my life
I think it would be cool to see a giant spider invasion review, especially when Bill Rebane is running for governor of Wisconsin. Gotta represent, after all it was made in my home town.
Can’t wait for your review of Ernest Scared Stupid James. It’s the campiest movie I know of from the early 90s, the best one of the Ernest series, it’s the fucking shit.
It strikes me as odd that they would make this movie about a monster that comes out of the closet and terrorizes the world, especially since it wasn’t at least 167 feet tall or anything. Idk but I think that it would of been a better movie if it was about a monster in a closet that kills people in their homes using the closets… Meh maybe I should give it a watch and see what I think about it afterwards.
haha the scenes with the monster carrying that guy was hilarious!! he looked so confused!! and wasn’t trying to struggle or nothin’…made me really wanna see what happened! xD
not a very scary looking monster tho..almost comical…I guess that was the point? Dunno if would have scared me if I saw it as a little kid…
James, one of these days, you should just cover some of the more infamous and maybe a couple of the lesser known of the Troma films. They’re an experience unto themselves. (Toxie comes to mind…)
I never saw this movie before, but I remember the hand coming out of the closet on the cover gave me nightmares. In the dreams the arm connected to that hand was incredibly long and would zoom through hallways and down stairs behind me while I never saw the creature it was connected to. All in all those dreams were a hell of a lot scarier than this movie looks…though I want to see it now just to see more of Carradine acting goofy.
Anyway, liked this review James. It’s a spoof, but it almost seems serious at some points, looks like spoofs and references lots of old horror and classic monster b movies! Looks funny
Perhaps it was the numerous fake-outs during the shower scene or the perfunctory King Kong reference at the end -or every scene in between- but this movie pissed me off. I guess you have to be in the right mood for this movie..
Something weird… the part in the montage, with the running crowd, is from the shitty danish monster movie “Reptilicus”, take a look at around 7.17 in this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=javwT9eyR9g
I like how the inner mouth starts to look around before retracting. I can’t see what the outer monster sees? It’s a different entity? Rent must be pretty cheap.
I hate looking for Troma movies. Also, can you review rabid grannies? Although Troma released it, they cencored it down to nothing, like toxin avenger 2. I’ve seen some cut scenes and its pretty nasty.
I remember a few years ago my cousin told me about this movie and I thought she was joking. Then she showed me the IMDB page. I have since seen it and it is such a campy 80s movie.

October 22, 2010 at 3:15 am

Nice one James.
You know a great campy slasher movie you could do? Shocker.

Check it out, it’s pretty good
October 22, 2010 at 5:54 am
A Troma film! YES! The Asian slicing up the closet is hilarious. Glad to see we’re still in 1986.
October 22, 2010 at 6:02 am
At first i thought its the Rancor from Return of the jedi:DD
ps: James you are pure awesomeness! Keep up the good work:)
Greetings from Hungary
October 22, 2010 at 6:03 am
If a Xenonmorph facehugger attacked a Rancor, then the resulting offspring would be The Monster in The Closet!
October 22, 2010 at 6:25 am
whats funny is the little boy with glasses is Paul Walker from fast and furious and running scared the the little girl looking in the closet is fucking fergie from the black eye peas:-p hard to believe where people get their starts but hey! gotta start somewhere right?

October 22, 2010 at 8:40 am
Travis Maciejewski: you must be like 12 or something…. a grown up man can’t be proud being the first to comment on a video on the internet.
Or you’re really a very depressing person.
October 22, 2010 at 8:44 am
I hate these ads, they are so annoying.
October 22, 2010 at 8:51 am
I had this on while I was working. What I saw of it looked stupid so I almost deleted it from my Netflix queue. Now I think I will give it another chance and my full attention. Thanks, James.
October 22, 2010 at 9:17 am
And now we’re back to movies I’ve never even heard of.
October 22, 2010 at 9:18 am
@Kavaloosh Ads = money. James ain’t doing this for free.
October 22, 2010 at 9:26 am
When in The Thing do they try to kill the “thing” with electricity?
October 22, 2010 at 9:40 am
I had no idea this even existed. Learn something new everyday.
October 22, 2010 at 10:12 am
1:18- I think the monster IS gay. I mean the title pretty much hints that. He’s a monster in a closet, and he came out of it. =)
October 22, 2010 at 10:25 am
Wow, That monster looks like shit, lol Seems like an interesting movie, sort of, the monster is really ugly, eww, he looks like poop, I really wish the monster looked better because this seems like a great idea for a movie, really good idea because we all fear the closet at night, and it could have been a good monster movie, But the creature is too fucking ugly for me to be able to watch it, I don’t think I could stand looking at that thing for too long,

October 22, 2010 at 11:34 am
That monsters skin reminded me of shit demon from Dogma.
October 22, 2010 at 11:37 am
I never had a monster in my closet, I had a monster outside my bedroom window. I was big, red, and always grinning.
(Yes, I still remember ever since I was ,like, 4.)

David Carradine
October 22, 2010 at 12:10 pm
@ Rasmus – at the end of the movie. This is the original thing we’re talking about, by the way, not the John Carpenter remake.
October 22, 2010 at 1:21 pm
“Hi I’m James and I’ve been travelling in Spain…” FUCK YOU JAMES I DON’T CARE.
October 22, 2010 at 1:52 pm

i love the movie reviews but i hate how the ads aren’t even relevant… you should just use youtube…
October 22, 2010 at 2:33 pm
The little girl who gets killed in the begining of this movie is actually Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.
October 22, 2010 at 2:56 pm
wow that looked stupid and really cheesy
October 22, 2010 at 3:11 pm
Let’s get this straight. Does anybody in the movie explain, HOW the monster forms the portal, and WHY in the closet? Why cant it materialize, say, in the basement? No? Then fuck this irrational piece of shit.
James, it would be mega cool if you make a special episode about Tarman, the most awesome zombie in history.
October 22, 2010 at 3:47 pm
The sound effect is similar to the one of the character Ludo from Labyrinth.
October 22, 2010 at 3:48 pm
I have been your and Nostalgia critics fan for a while now.
havent seen this video yet – just wanted u to know!
October 22, 2010 at 4:06 pm
Carrying a man… Well the monster was In The Closet.
October 22, 2010 at 4:10 pm
That has got to be one of the best growls i’ve ever heard. Seriously.
I’m surprised you resisted the temptation of playing the Brokeback Mountain theme song during the monster/guy scene.
October 22, 2010 at 4:39 pm
Just a quick heads up, this movie is available as an Instant Watch on Netflix! I’m a-gonna go check it out right now!
October 22, 2010 at 4:39 pm
I’ve always wanted James to talk about Troma. Lloyd Kaufman is my filmmaking idol. I’m still disappointed that he didn’t talk about Toxic Avenger though. That shit’s classic; and it had 4 sequels. Oh god. Good stuff, good stuff.
October 22, 2010 at 5:24 pm
The cover art shows the monster has six digits on it’s hand. How odd(or even in this case.
October 22, 2010 at 5:24 pm
no mention of Fergie? what about they guy that played on the fast and the furious? how bout this being one of the only pg rated Troma movies i can think of? Troma is the essence of independent film making, don’t they deserve at least half as much love as you gave “Fright Night?”

October 22, 2010 at 6:57 pm
James, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I’m so happy you reviewed it. I got to say though I love the fact that the monster takes the guy, as it is ridiculously rare in comparison to see a “damso” in distress. Movie is hilarious!

October 22, 2010 at 7:20 pm
it looks like the monster from HOWARD THE DUCK!
October 22, 2010 at 8:18 pm
^^ You beat me to it, I was going to mention the aliens from “Howard the Duck” It would be funny if he reviewed that movie but I doubt it.
We are coming up on the 90′s and I think he HAS to do “The Guyver”! it would fit this month’s Monster Madness perfectly, and how can you deny the awesomeness of Mark Hamill turning into a giant alien cockroach lol! I have a feeling this one is on the list.
October 22, 2010 at 9:04 pm
It’s funny when people ask for shitstupid things like “rational explanations” in monster movies. On the one hand it’s already dumb just for the subject matter if you want to be so technical and regardless of that, having everything explained to you ruins the fun a lot of the time. Those who demand to be handed everything to them over explaining every detail in a movie are gits.
October 22, 2010 at 10:39 pm
lol at the monster is gay, not that there is anything wrong with being gay, haha. Also WTF at the people destroying their closets, movie seems pretty shitty to me, haha.

October 22, 2010 at 11:57 pm
haha i remember watching this with my mom and my brother as a kid, we laughed our asses of, it’s such an absurd movie, i can’t believe you left the scene with the granny destroying her closet with a flame thrower out, and wow, the ending is probably the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever seen in my life
October 23, 2010 at 12:39 am
I think it would be cool to see a giant spider invasion review, especially when Bill Rebane is running for governor of Wisconsin. Gotta represent, after all it was made in my home town.
October 23, 2010 at 12:53 am
Can’t wait for your review of Ernest Scared Stupid James. It’s the campiest movie I know of from the early 90s, the best one of the Ernest series, it’s the fucking shit.
October 23, 2010 at 1:18 am

not a very scary looking monster tho..almost comical…I guess that was the point? Dunno if would have scared me if I saw it as a little kid…
October 23, 2010 at 1:23 am

October 23, 2010 at 6:35 am
damn this shit looks so funny
October 23, 2010 at 2:38 pm
That voice in the beginning Saying It’s Cinemassacre’s MM sounds like Zoycite.
October 23, 2010 at 3:45 pm

Fun Fact: the girl who plays the little girl Lucy in this movie is Fergie when she was a little girl! I’m not kidding.
October 23, 2010 at 5:05 pm
You mean Fergie the singer? Really?!
Anyway, liked this review James. It’s a spoof, but it almost seems serious at some points, looks like spoofs and references lots of old horror and classic monster b movies! Looks funny
October 23, 2010 at 9:02 pm
wow…east asian guy destroying closet…Cause Japan looked like some Edo era on acid in the 80′s. LOL
October 24, 2010 at 11:13 am
Fergie in a monster movie? Must see!
October 24, 2010 at 11:18 am
Nice Real Ghostbusters reference!
October 24, 2010 at 11:42 am
I think they should had take out the cloths before burning the closet.
October 25, 2010 at 2:31 pm
Wow…that movie looked fuckin funny! I would watch it if I was high or drunk or sumthin lol
October 25, 2010 at 4:04 pm
Perhaps it was the numerous fake-outs during the shower scene or the perfunctory King Kong reference at the end -or every scene in between- but this movie pissed me off. I guess you have to be in the right mood for this movie..

to right fedtemis, James has in a different monster madness series expressed hs love for reptilicus..
October 29, 2010 at 2:34 am
@fedtemis
sorry, he reviewed it in his “top 10 monster movies” of all time, not in “Monster madness”
October 29, 2010 at 12:55 pm
That scene with people running looks like it’s from the great Sid Pink’s masterpiece “Reptilicus”.
October 30, 2010 at 10:10 am
hahahaahaha at that samurai dude destroying his closet.
October 31, 2010 at 7:05 pm
It looks like the Rancor from ‘Return of the Jedi’.
November 1, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Well of course its gay thats why it comes out of closets.
November 13, 2010 at 1:20 am

Kung-fu closet destruction. How can you go wrong?
January 3, 2011 at 5:18 pm
I. Love. Troma

I like how the inner mouth starts to look around before retracting. I can’t see what the outer monster sees? It’s a different entity? Rent must be pretty cheap.
October 17, 2011 at 6:44 pm
I hate looking for Troma movies. Also, can you review rabid grannies? Although Troma released it, they cencored it down to nothing, like toxin avenger 2. I’ve seen some cut scenes and its pretty nasty.

I remember that RGB episode! There were actually two of them.

Maybe the monster IS gay. And destroying all the closets? Classic!
February 12, 2012 at 4:00 am
Yeah the monster kept coming out of the closet and every one had enough. Would you want that coming out of the closet to you.
