Kinda surprised you didn’t mention the guy was played by TONY CURTIS James. Did you miss that or did you feel better not to mention it considering he recently passed away?
my dad watched this movie when i was little, and i remember being more scared by this mind fuck then the exorcist. i live in colorado and here we have a town called manitou. most locals pronounce it man-it-to, but it is a native american word, we are probably just saying it incorrectly
The Playstation Store is having a halloween sale, 1 free horror movie every saturday, and first one is (you guessed it) Dracula. This Month is gonna be awesome!!
During summer vacation as a kid one school year I woke up in the middle of the night having left the TV on. I was really tired so I kept nodding in and out but this movie was totally on.
I first saw it during the exorcism scene and faded in and out with my eyes half squinted and at times terrified (I was like 10) and at times not because I couldn’t tell what was going on or what type of movie this even not.
Either way, I’ve tried explaining this movie to people before in the hopes that someone would know what it was. Imagine me trying to explain it to someone from what was probably an edited version (I don’t remember the nurse’s head breaking the window for example) and from.. the source I was given. I hadn’t seen any part before the exorcism and sure as hell didn’t know what an exorcism even was if I HAD known what was going on.
But yeah, seeing the rest of this video, I had no idea that this was even the movie I saw until the last 3/4ths of it which just reinforces the things James said about it.
I would have NEVER found out but THANK YOU James for finally closing this little yet prevalent wonder from my young mind.
There remains only one movie that I can think of that I haven’t found out what it is now at this point. Another one that bothered me for years was a movie that I only saw part of for fear of my Grandma seeing that I was watching a movie where there were boobs. It turned out years later when I explained the scene as “they were in an ice cave and changing clothes and then some stuff happened and they were out in like a decaying Roman or Greek city..” that someone interrupted and said it was Logan’s Run, a movie that my Dad had mentioned a lot and I at least knew was a well known sci-fi film.
I’ll have to explain the scenes I remember from this other movie one time. I don’t think I can handle another answer to one of my greatest unfilled depths of a memory so soon.
I actually read all Manitou books when I was a kid they weren’t that bad. I actually read pretty much all Graham Masterton’s books at that time. My favorite one was the one at the old psychiatric hospital.
Today I had Nothing to do, No College,
But
I Still Woke up Early Just To watch This
And
I have to say, I’m so Glad I did!!!!
This review was just amazing James, You had me laughing so Hard!!
The typewriter explodes, I thought you were going to be like BOOM
this seriously looks like a movie so bad you have to watch with friends
God I love October
Monster madness just keeps getting better and better!!!
Aw man, we missed out Ape! The one with the giant gorilla flipping the camera a chopper! Ah well, maybe some other year.
Great review anyway, James. Great to look forward to something new every day from you until October is out.
Hi there James, first off big fan of your work. Second, have you been following the recent trial in Montreal, Canada about a special-effects artist by the name of Remy Couture. He has been working on horror videos for his website, which has been shut down for now due to the trial going on. He was charged with moral corruption and distributing obscene material on his website, which is the horror movies he put onto his website.
Just to recap, yesterday one of your fans sounded like a rabid Peter Lorre. Today, it sounds like Jeff Dunham’s puppet, Bubba J. Quite the fanbase you got, James.
As for The Manitou, it definitely deserves rank 10 on the WTF scale.
This is pretty cool in that I never thought there was ever a horror movie based on the Ojibway “Great Creater”/”Great Mystery” by the same name. Manitou in this movie is represented as a demonic shaman it seems, while the actual understanding of Manitou is that it is essentially God. I wonder how much fact is in the movie, as the trippy space-like ending looks familiar.
I remember seeing the exorcism scene when I was like 5. Since then every couple of years I’d remember it but was too vague on the details to find it.. Now I’ve found it after nearly 25 years. Thank you for filling one of the only gaps in my horror memories.
I saw this movie as a kid and, damn, it blew me away. What a clusterfuck. I wanted to watch it over and over again because the evil shaman was so fucking cool.
I know it seems ridiculous to mention it but I would least like you to mention tony curtis’s death. even though this film was made in his “I don’t give a shit” period. After all he was in the “sweet smell of succ.ess, some like it hot, the vikings, Spartacus and, the defiant ones
Wow… another crazy one. I don’t know if you can call it an Exorcist rip-off seeing as how different it is. It’s pretty crazy really! Awesome find. Might have to check it out sometime. I also see that you didn’t tell us how it ultimately ends, heh heh.
Apparently the reviewer did not actually watch the movie. Or read the book.
The whole idea is that the sorcerer is kind of a Indian Cthulhu shaman and is trying to open the door to let in his master.
The typewriter, like all things, has a spirit, a manitou. The explosion is the shaman annihilating that spirit. The indian medicine man who is trying to help him realizes he is hopelessly outclassed. He then tries to invoke the manitou of the criminal database computer, a much more powerful manitou that has, as its purpose, protecting people from those who would wish harm on others. But it will not listen, it is a white man’s manitou. The protagonist then calls the police computer up and requests its help. The whole freaky deaky thing was the massive computing power of the machine’s manitou against the indian shaman.
It cannot match the big boss but it fries the shaman before he can open the gate
By the way, I am sure you have heard this before, but read the book, it is much better than the movie. But if you actually paid attention during the movie, you would get a lot more information

October 15, 2010 at 3:21 am
James should post a video that is just 3 minutes of nothingness and see how many people post “First! Awesome video! So funny!”.
——————
This seems like the perfect video to follow up Infra-Man and Exorcist 2. Almost like a hybrid between the two.
YOUR MOTHER SUCKS COCKS IN BOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!~&##$(#*(#

@ASC1980
Yeah, that’s Goblin’s Suspiria theme during the laser light show scenes. One of the best horror/experimental soundtracks ever made imo.
Huge Goblin/Argento fan…
Cheers!

the ghost seems (in the picture) that its coming out of her ass
October 15, 2010 at 5:24 am
I always hate it, when actors, who could have made a bad movie fun, have few scenes where they don’t do shit. Same with Bruce Campbell in Congo.
Anyway, great review. Movies on Acid seem to be a theme this year ^^
October 15, 2010 at 5:37 am
Is the demon played by Tommy Wiseau?
