Oh Nice, I get to be the 2nd Post. When I saw the title I was first saying to myself, “WTF? I thought Frankenstien was an A-List monster, how could he be in the B-List Catagory…. And this video explaned it. Its hard to make a movie thats compareable or reconizeable thats based off of a classic.
this movie is no Universal Horror classic but damn, is it enjoyable. Highly suggested to fans of Karloff or monster movies in general. It’s easily a movie you can pick up and watch many times.
What are those clips at the beginning of the video with the snake and the guy getting the drill in his head?
This looks like a good one. The monster looks okay but I wish the filmmakers could have used the original Jack Pierce design, that is the classic Frankenstein.
The Human-faced Cobra is from an 80′s film called Dreamscape.
It stars Dennis Quaid.
There’s 2 scenes with the cobra.
the first time you see it it looks more snake-like.
This shot James used here is from the end of the film where it looks more human.
I won’t ruin the plot., but it came out the same year as Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and its about people dying in their dreams causing them to die in real life. Scared the shit out of me when I was about 10 years old, lol
The scenes where they’re making the movie remind me of the film they’re watching in the Thriller music video. I guess that’s just how films were made back then in general, but still.
Good review. I’m definitely more likely to give this a chance if I see it somewhere. I just wish that networks would show stuff like this during Halloween time still. Instead we get nothing.
Whenever I log in, the screen for this page (and only this page) is tiny, it is just a small strip in the center of the screen. I cant figure out how this happened, it just loaded like that one day when I tried to see the third monster madness video. Not sure if anyone else has this problem… but it sort of makes watching less enjoyable because I can barely see the video. I found you could click the video link and it sends you to blip.com and I could see it in full size but it only goes to #4 the cyclops. Im glad I could see the AVGN videos on another site in full… is this a site issue or is it something to do with my browser… dont know, since its this site only and no others that does this….
[note : I had to write all this in notepade and cut/paste because I couldnt see what I was writing in the lil comment box]
Karloff had a particular affection for the Frankenstein monster and movie franchise. He was never the least bit upset with being virtually typecast in the role and was proud to be associated with it. This film really gives you a feel for that and an even greater appreciation for Karloff’s work and Frankenstein in general.
Awesome review!

The poster itself is terrifying enough, great art, sure you appreciate it too James’ http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/vizzedindex.php?ref=65348
What movie was that clip with that weird human-faced cobra at the very beginning? That was actually legitimately scary.

James always makes the best videos, without fail.
Wait… so the doctor is the monster at the end of the movie? Regardless, this looks good.
Wow, the sets look kick ass! And they don’t even show the monster? What a damn ripoff. Well, it does have Karloff, and I guess that makes up for it…..
