Awesome! I’m sure if Robert Louis Stevenson could watch this video he would do something about this wretched anal abomination of a game. Excellent social commentary at the end too, one of your best to date!
i was almost convinced to like the game at the very end.. it made me think for a second…said no one ever. 😉 awesome review. one of my favorites. its too bad because this could of been a great game, the book is amazing.
BTW, is this the halloween special? Or is the special gonna be a 2-parter? Like “Friday the 13th” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Atari’s Texas Chainsaw massacre” and “Halloween” for Atari, “Dracula Games” and “Frankenstein Games”? Or, is it gonna be Castlevania-thon ?
I mean, it is really unsatisfying to have only one AVGN halloween special…
So Mr.James, I know you’re busy working on Monster Madness 2010. But please, give us more surprise in Halloween!
Okay, this is now my #1 Nerd video of all time. The Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde is a legend because of the nerd. My copy of this game is coming in the mail. I’m sorry the Nerd! I just had to experience it for myself!
Alright, after seeing this.. I’m not sure what anyone could say about it negatively. It literally has it all.
I’ve always liked the fact that James has fun with his reviews but puts care into every detail at the same time. The fact that he actually gives CORRECT insight and does his research.
But a lot of people simply like his swearing. Hell, it’s been copied in every knock-off reviewer that is out there. This alone does not a good video make.
I’m not offended by the swearing at all. I swear like a sailer at times. I don’t, however, find it fall on the floor funny and a lot of times makes me raise an eyebrow. There are times though that he starts on a tirade that seems natural instead of forced and there to be there and THIS is when it’s hilarious.
This video had both parts in equal dosage that added up to supreme awesomeness. Great stuff.
Lots of hilarious moments in this. The ending shot was exactly the same angle on the head from the first Jekyll video. Taking the game out from the Nintoaster several times for suspense worked on many levels. Even after Hyde Nerd said Robert Louis Stevenson ruined his life, he seemed to march off to the left in a hilarious fashion. Very small things that just add up many times over.
The revelation / epiphany at the end explaining the game being perfect probably caught everyone off guard with how detailed and consistently funny it was because from a certain point of view it really has some truth to it.
I actually owned this piece of fuck as a kid and watching this video was one of the most cathartic experiences I’ve had. James, you’re a fuckin’ genius! 😀
I knew it was going to be this game all along. I just wish at the end, he destroys it. But he just ends it saying it fucking sucks. It did go into greater detail this time of course I expected that, but I expected him to destroy the game… or bury it. Why didn’t he? “Smash it! Smash it with a hammer until the fragments are invisible!” Check this youtube video out. You too, Nerd! You should’ve done this if it’d make you feel better and angrier too. Great vid btw. Anyway, just check it…
One of your best reviews ever. Knew you were reviewing it again because of last month. Stayed up waiting for it to be uploaded. Knew it was gonna be tonight. “I’m getting pwned by Billy Powns”. I probably haven’t laughed that hard at any of your reviews ever. Another brilliant review James.
I’ve been waiting a long time for you to revisit Jekyll and Hyde. The original was really ,really poorly done. You don’t die “for no reason”, and I’m glad this new review finally addresses that fact. Still, this was a bit heavy on the filler and I was hoping you’d show the two different endings. Oh well. Better luck next time.
This was absolutely amazing! This is the way it had to be. I think the long explanation had a good point to it, but the sad part is that’s not what Soho was going for, so it’s all lost. I loved this video, and I actually enjoy playing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde…in a weird masochist kind of way though.
awesome how he too the time to think of the conclusion of why the game was bad. i wish he would do an overall review of his opionion on sega growing up but great job
I registered just for this video, been watching James all this year and I know he reads these comments.
EPIC JOB, I can tell you really put your heart into this one, I loved the psychology at the end so much, I mean that really took some original thinking. This is by far one of your best pieces you’ve done. And the Billy Powns line was one of the funniest things you’ve ever said, bravo.
This is the best review you’ve done for a while James…maybe even your greatest AVGN episode of all time. Hysterical and down to the basics that made the character so great. The metaphorically delusional rant at the end is inspired….this is a masterpiece.
Excelent! Zentu is Pleased. – But enough of the 3rd person babble, As much as the game makes sense in the fact as Jekel, you can’t do evil things. Woulden’t you know….Theres ACTUALLY 2 different endings for this game? (I watch YouTube Vids of games) The End Boss……yea, dosen’t make much sense. not to me anyway.
WOW. The Hyde scene was really professional for an internet video, holy shit. And the explanation at the end was so crazy that it actually makes sense.
Brilliant Episode!
But this game looks kinda interesting… reminds of the silent hill scheme somehow.
Anyway, Mr. Rolfe: Your Videos (and especially Episodes like this one) are so well made, that viewing them is to transcent body and time and entering a realm of total entertainment.
Cool review, just played the game and beat a few levels, I noticed the bombs won’t hurt you if you just keep walking and don’t jump or turn, and you have to pay the singing lady coins to let you by. The manual does give a reason for each of the characters being angry, but mostly it’s not personal, they are just crabby. Once you get the hang of the game it’s not that bad, it is playable.
I had to register just to post this, because I am so amazed that you actually did make a AVGN episode, even while doing the monster madness. Fucking awesome job!
Good episode James. Back in your last episode when you said you had another game you were thinking about, I honestly thought you were talking about Superman 64. You went over it, but mostly only the beginning, after that there are different missions if I recall where you’re in a town or something, you missed quite a bit from that game and there is also a multiplayer mode on superman which I used to play with my cousins at times.
Take out the Last 2 minutes or so, and that’s what I call, an Angry Video Game Nerd.
By the way, I liked the game. Then again, I knew how to play it because I looked it up on Wikipedia, and my impression of it was not tainted by his review (his first one) because I knew he wasn’t being fair. Anyway, this was hilarious.
You know from where I unterstand it’s fake. Nobody leave full bottle of wiskey on the edge of the couch. It just fucking crazy, who do what. Really? Full bottle? Full fucking bottle, just waiting to be broken and spill all over the floor. It is maddnes I tell you. It was the most terrible part of this video, maybe all your videos. It was scary to watch. Will this bottle broke or not? Dude, if I have such a bottle of wiskey, first thing I am going to do, is bottle off this wiskey into plastic tare. And if it will be a beer(I mean good european beer, not that shit you drinking. There is a good phrase about american beer: American beer is like having sex in a boat. It’s fucking close to water.) I save it like my own child. Its just blows my mind. Who do that? Nobody, that’s who. You are puting drinking a lot in your videos, but you just have shown, that you have no fucking clue how the real men drinks and that it means to so many people. Here in eastern europe it is like a religion, like a ritual or call it what ever you want. You should do an euro trip some day to taste some german or cezch or lithuanian beer for once. You will never want that shity beer again. Peace, algiuzas out.
You really dared to re-visit Dr jekyll and mr hyde? Thats brave!
This putted a smile on my face and ive been waited so long for this, Keep up the awesome work James! 🙂
The 1932 version of this film was on TCM on Tuesday night, and while I loved watching the film (because it’s incredible) I couldn’t help but think of your review, and now I see you revisitied it LOL!
Great video, especially loved the bullshit theory at the end
Btw: To save bandwith: you should cut down the resolution of the title image in this post. It’s scaled down but the source image is still huge, forcing all visitors to download the full image.
I thoroughly agree with Gavie on the whole image needing to be legitimately shrunken issue. To make matters worse, the way the image was scaled through HTML actually distorts the aspect ratio of the image too. You certainly don’t have to use it, but I scaled the image down to 600×400, and it’s less than an eleventh the size of the full image here.
James, this episode was AMAZING. That skeleton animation was absolutely HILARIOUS! This review is the perfect combination between comedy and reviewing that I’ve always loved in nerd videos. It may not be the longest nerd video but it sure feels like one of them because of the balance!
Its in Belgium, Brussel. But I would not advice you to go there
cause… well, its a bit smelly… I dont blame him but apperently its the most ironic icon I ever seen in a city which smells like piss at every corner of the street…
I had a feeling this one would be Dr. Jekyll from your hint in the last AVGN video. Another excellent job, James, and even more amazing with the 2010 Monster Madness in full swing. Bravo, sir. Keep up the great work!
Great Review! I swear to never play this game so long as I live.
I was kind of hoping you’d cover “R.O.B.” as something you were going to come back to though… since it’s been quite a while since your accessories review =p
This was one of the best episodes in a long time! Hilarious! I really actually like this once-a-month thing: your episodes seem much much more inspired than they were when you were trying to constantly pump out episodes.
Oh my. I had to comment on the rant at the end. That was pure awesomeness. It makes sense, and then “OR…. This game just $#*%ing sucks.!” Love it. Great work.
You know James, I thought that the game review you’d be doing in AVGN: The Movie (if it gets made), would be the extended version of this one.
But great review. Every great fictional character has an arch enemy, Sherlock Holmes has Prof. Moriarty, Batman has the Joker…
…and the AVGN has the Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES!!!! It’s so evil, it has a mind of it’s own.
Ah, Robert Louis Stevenson’s skeleton flipping the chopper. That’s something I never thought I’d see.
This was a good episode which contained all the elements of a classic Nerd episode, even if it’s not quite the best. Well done, enjoyed it.
Back to Monster Madness…
My God! You guys are talented! I wish you the best of success and happines! You are hard workers and I definitely hope that life rewards you for your hard work! Keep up the good fight!
I thought I would mention that there’s a new game for Jekyll and Hyde, and trust me, it isn’t any better than this piece of shit. At least the old one had age to blame, before standards were set. These days you expect modern standards, and even most bad games meet them.
By new I actually mean new, September or so of 2010. I recently put up a written review for it on IGN.(And apparently I was the only guy in the world that could stand it long enough to do it, not even IGN reviewed this pigshit of a game.) The 2010 Jekyll and Hyde game. http://readerreviews.ign.com/rrview/tv/jekyll_hyde/028833/128976/
It’s so bad they didn’t even put up the box cover image for the game. There’s just blank “Box art not available” pictures. That alone is a legendary find…
Out of several dozen or so written reviews, this was the only one I bickered so much at the start of. It was the worst modern game I ever touched and this game PISSED ME OFF to no end. It’s only written, but you can still read about why this game is garbage, or go get it yourself and see. I only posted this because it seemed relevant being a Jekyll and Hyde game, which no one seems to know about or realize exists, and worst of all, it’s NEW, but still really fucking bad.
wow. amazing. I wish I could count the layers of delights packed into this video.
the last few minutes of philosophical critique blew me away. coles notes + badass videogame reviewer = awesome
(i.e. informative like coles notes)
This is one of the best ones yet. I can’t believe you managed to sneak in the Rygar reference. I remember telling Mike about the almost note for note copy between both games.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s skeleton flipping the bird and pronouncing the name of his own fictional creation Dr. Jekyll wrong… Thank you, James, I’ve seen everything now and can die a happy man.
Great one, by the way 🙂
Amazing as always, James. I especially loved the long rant while you were lying on the floor. You are a very smart and funny guy and I wish you the best of luck. :)))
Great job, James! I laughed when you delayed putting the cartridge into the Nintoaster several times, and the pissing statue and shitting bird says it all. I’d never thought I would see a skeleton flipping the bird, let alone Robert Louis Stevenson’s . But my favorite part was the whole philosophical speech at the end, not only did it somehow make sense, but it was true to the theme of the game and novel.
I’m really glad you did take time out to make this video, James. I was just sitting there during the last couple minutes going, “Wait for it, waiiiiiiiit for it…” and then came the “It’s shit,” just like I knew it would. And I still laughed my ass off- your waxing happy philosophy followed by that 180 about did me in, even though I knew it was coming.
These aren’t unique comments: The skeleton had me rolling, though it did actually surprise me that you didn’t beat R. L. into powder with that nifty cane. My only problem with the video: I wanted to hear about the French puppies from 1951! Is that one of the horror movies you’re covering this month? 😀
How did we know this was going to be Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? 😛
Now that you have played and reviewed the game in much greater detail, don’t the sound effects sound like some other game like, um, Bible Buffet or other unlicensed games?
i like the review n yes the game sucks bt i like to see more You know whats bullshit, sure after the monster madness can wait to see more anyway good jod keep it up
Your original review was actually one of my favorite videos of yours. For me, the whole joke and humor out of it is that you really don’t even talk about the game or review it at all. You just rant about how horrible it is for the whole 7 minutes or so! It’s like you could just edit the video a little to make it so you’re talking about another bad game, for example Shaq Fu. It was comedy GOLD. I haven’t watched this version yet, but believe me, I’m glad you’re doing it justice now, this game deserves TWO reviews! 🙂 (Though it’s not all that bad IMHO)
YAYYYYY!!! When I saw the purple suit in the last episode I had high hopes that this would be the next game! Well done! I love the new 1 episode a month thing. The episodes are much more epic. Well done all around.
to be fair after watching this episode again, the humour had dun out, you should have stuck to the original episode and then reviewed another game, this was not your best, im sorry James, as I have total respect for you http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/retro/Index.php?ref=65348
Even though I knew it was going to be this game, THIS WAS SO FULL OF EPIC AWESOMENESS!!!! The twist ending where you figure it’s the best game ever made left me in shock! This is what the definition of AVGN is!!! Sure, other episodes have more epicness, but this is THE VERY DEFINTION OF AVGN! It’s not about fight scenes, more games, special effects, crossovers….it’s about horrible games! And how to review them in the most unexpected matter of all time!!! ALL HAIL THE ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD! HE WILL LEAD US AGAINST HORRID GAMES!!!!
Just d’loaded this rom to my DS to try it out, you can avoid the bombs if you are far enough away or sometimes if you time it right to jump when its going off
I Still know a game for NES with worse controls. I had to make sure to get the game guide just to be able to move the player icon in it. Not sure if you have it though and I do like the Music in it. The Game is AirWolf for NES.
The Attempt to force a lesson about not allowing Evil to progress past good was pathetic. But this was a much more in depth review of one of the near worst games ever to defile any Game console. I just think AirWolf might be a bit worse when it comes to control. Don’t forget its based off a Hit TV series.
on your 200th episode you should have all your charactors go to a bar and get drunk then get into a fight and by charactors i mean like bugs bunny and clingon and you know ….. the rest so keep that in mind and your my idol you make me want to make movies
I saw the first review.. it’s was vague jajaja But this one it’s amazing !!! Great video..
By the way I saw this game the other day on the flee marked.. It look at me I look at it.. I remeber what you said on the first review Insted I bough demin sword jaja
Awesome Episode—

Holy S%^$~~~ 1st~~~~~
Haha, Just kidding. Great review James. I saw it on Gametrailer early on, but it never gets old…

Extreme.
October 7, 2010 at 12:19 am
I knew it! I had a feeling you would revist it!!
October 7, 2010 at 12:20 am
WOOHOO !!
Love it !!
Thanks Mr Rolfe !
October 7, 2010 at 12:20 am
This deserved a re-review. Must have been really hard on you though, considering your reactions in the original video.
October 7, 2010 at 12:21 am
The last part of the review blew my mind !!! I’m gonna need some firewater to help me get over it ! Another great episode. Good job James!
October 7, 2010 at 12:21 am
YES!!! Great review James.
October 7, 2010 at 12:21 am
Awesome! I’m sure if Robert Louis Stevenson could watch this video he would do something about this wretched anal abomination of a game. Excellent social commentary at the end too, one of your best to date!

Agreed.
December 6, 2013 at 11:00 pm
i was almost convinced to like the game at the very end.. it made me think for a second…said no one ever. 😉 awesome review. one of my favorites. its too bad because this could of been a great game, the book is amazing.
October 7, 2010 at 12:26 am
I saw this pop up while watching Monster Madness… for the fact that Toukz says “one of your best to date” I’m quite excited.
Now only if GameTrailers would stop saying it’s one minute long and keep going “Video buffering” – playing ” Video buffering” 20 times a second.
Ah refreshing it worked..
October 7, 2010 at 12:30 am
oh my god. this is a great surprise. i am very happy now.
October 7, 2010 at 12:34 am
Perfect shot in the ending.
It’s also scary how much your analysis actually fits, haha.
October 7, 2010 at 12:37 am
BTW, is this the halloween special? Or is the special gonna be a 2-parter? Like “Friday the 13th” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Atari’s Texas Chainsaw massacre” and “Halloween” for Atari, “Dracula Games” and “Frankenstein Games”? Or, is it gonna be Castlevania-thon ?

So Mr.James, I know you’re busy working on Monster Madness 2010. But please, give us more surprise in Halloween!
October 7, 2010 at 12:44 am
James,
I just want you to know that drinking water instead of beer kills a lot of magic into your recent reviews.
October 7, 2010 at 12:46 am
This has to be one the best AVGN videos so far! That was really funny
October 7, 2010 at 12:47 am
Fuck yeah!
October is like Christmastime around Cinemassacre! I love this time of year!
October 7, 2010 at 12:49 am

also, BIG thanks to James and Mike for putting this during monster madness. Can’t even start to imagine how busy they must be right now!
October 7, 2010 at 12:50 am
I plan to enjoy my favorite beer while watching my favorite web series. Thanks James!
October 7, 2010 at 12:51 am
Hahaha. I was right that this would be the next game to be reviewed 😀 I even commented on the last AVGN episode.
October 7, 2010 at 12:55 am

October 7, 2010 at 1:32 am
Oh God I laughed so hard when you showed the bird turd falling on the pissing statue.
October 7, 2010 at 1:40 am
October 7, 2010 at 2:12 am
The final monologue in this episode is pretty crazy in that it kinda makes sense. I wonder how much time James spent trying to make sense of the game.
October 7, 2010 at 2:22 am
Well we saw the Victorian Era pretty much end with Jack the Ripper, so maybe your analysis wasn’t too far off.
October 7, 2010 at 2:22 am
I registered just for this video, been watching James all this year and I know he reads these comments.

Wow, it’s happening. I can’t really watch this without the damn flash plug in crashing every 5 minutes.
October 7, 2010 at 3:22 am
Haven’t seen you this angry in long while James, great episode!
October 7, 2010 at 3:23 am
GGRRRRR ScrewAttack and their crappy streaming!!!!
Can hardly watch this its so choppy
Still a great ReReview … or is it ReReReview??
October 7, 2010 at 3:24 am
The pissing statue is actually a famous sightseeing in Brussels

October 7, 2010 at 3:48 am
Great episode! It’s fun to see this game revisited.
Please review Total Recall for the NES. 😉
October 7, 2010 at 3:54 am
this has go to be one of your finest. after reviewing this again, and doing it with such excellence, you could retire right away.
but don’t you dare do it, you brilliant asshole!
October 7, 2010 at 3:57 am
Awesome review!!!
I knew that this one was next.
October 7, 2010 at 3:57 am
For the first time in my life I plated this game on you tube and for some strange reason watching an ‘expert’ play it, well it kinda made sense http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/vizzedindex.php?ref=65348
October 7, 2010 at 4:36 am
Holy crap, you followed my suggestion! I’m honoured.
October 7, 2010 at 4:42 am
Great work! Finally we got a real in depth explanation why we never should play this awful game.
October 7, 2010 at 4:54 am
I honestly can’t say which articulation was better — the winded, philosophical filibuster… or the earnest, straightforward statement at the very end.
Amazing review in every direction!
October 7, 2010 at 5:04 am
The statue taking a piss looks like the Manneken Pis from Brussels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manneken_Pis
October 7, 2010 at 5:14 am
Brilliant Episode!
But this game looks kinda interesting… reminds of the silent hill scheme somehow.
Anyway, Mr. Rolfe: Your Videos (and especially Episodes like this one) are so well made, that viewing them is to transcent body and time and entering a realm of total entertainment.
October 7, 2010 at 5:26 am
I actually didn’t like this one.
Just felt hollow and uninspired.
October 7, 2010 at 5:40 am
Love the ending with the close-up face just like the original.
October 7, 2010 at 6:01 am
Of course you would revisit this abomination for Halloween, heh.
Had to break out the hard booze, eh?
October 7, 2010 at 6:01 am
Cool review, just played the game and beat a few levels, I noticed the bombs won’t hurt you if you just keep walking and don’t jump or turn, and you have to pay the singing lady coins to let you by. The manual does give a reason for each of the characters being angry, but mostly it’s not personal, they are just crabby. Once you get the hang of the game it’s not that bad, it is playable.
October 7, 2010 at 6:08 am
I had to register just to post this, because I am so amazed that you actually did make a AVGN episode, even while doing the monster madness. Fucking awesome job!
October 7, 2010 at 6:20 am
Great episode! 😀
Just one question, though – why are you still making videos in fullscreen in 2010?
October 7, 2010 at 6:57 am

October 7, 2010 at 7:01 am
now that was much better than the original.that was hilarious!4 and half stars!
October 7, 2010 at 7:22 am
Great! thanks.
October 7, 2010 at 7:22 am
One of my favorite reviews! Great job James!
October 7, 2010 at 7:31 am
October 7, 2010 at 7:36 am
You really dared to re-visit Dr jekyll and mr hyde? Thats brave!
This putted a smile on my face and ive been waited so long for this, Keep up the awesome work James! 🙂
October 7, 2010 at 7:47 am
The 1932 version of this film was on TCM on Tuesday night, and while I loved watching the film (because it’s incredible) I couldn’t help but think of your review, and now I see you revisitied it LOL!
Irony? Or did you also see the film Tuesday?
October 7, 2010 at 8:08 am
HAHAHA!!! one of the best nerd episodes ever!!!
October 7, 2010 at 8:36 am
Great video, especially loved the bullshit theory at the end
Btw: To save bandwith: you should cut down the resolution of the title image in this post. It’s scaled down but the source image is still huge, forcing all visitors to download the full image.
October 7, 2010 at 8:57 am
I thoroughly agree with Gavie on the whole image needing to be legitimately shrunken issue. To make matters worse, the way the image was scaled through HTML actually distorts the aspect ratio of the image too. You certainly don’t have to use it, but I scaled the image down to 600×400, and it’s less than an eleventh the size of the full image here.

October 7, 2010 at 9:15 am
I wanna play this now.
October 7, 2010 at 9:19 am
Another revisit? You’re pretty much phoning it in at this point….
October 7, 2010 at 9:28 am
Just awesome!
And I didn’t even see it yet, because ScrewAttack is currently screwed
October 7, 2010 at 10:58 am
Classic Nerd. Great episode! 😀
October 7, 2010 at 11:10 am
James, this episode was AMAZING. That skeleton animation was absolutely HILARIOUS! This review is the perfect combination between comedy and reviewing that I’ve always loved in nerd videos. It may not be the longest nerd video but it sure feels like one of them because of the balance!
Great job!
October 7, 2010 at 11:24 am
Another great one James.
Did you know that the statue actually EXIST irl!?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manneke_Pis
Its in Belgium, Brussel. But I would not advice you to go there
cause… well, its a bit smelly… I dont blame him but apperently its the most ironic icon I ever seen in a city which smells like piss at every corner of the street…
Keep up the creativity, greetz out of Amsterdam.
October 7, 2010 at 11:54 am
@Carfie
Hey alles goed? 😉
Greet to see fellow fans from the Netherlands!
Keep up the good work. By the way, will this be last episode untill the movie comes out?
Thomas
October 7, 2010 at 12:00 pm
I had a feeling this one would be Dr. Jekyll from your hint in the last AVGN video. Another excellent job, James, and even more amazing with the 2010 Monster Madness in full swing. Bravo, sir. Keep up the great work!
October 7, 2010 at 12:10 pm
Great Review! I swear to never play this game so long as I live.
I was kind of hoping you’d cover “R.O.B.” as something you were going to come back to though… since it’s been quite a while since your accessories review =p
October 7, 2010 at 12:13 pm
This was one of the best episodes in a long time! Hilarious! I really actually like this once-a-month thing: your episodes seem much much more inspired than they were when you were trying to constantly pump out episodes.
October 7, 2010 at 12:27 pm
Oh my. I had to comment on the rant at the end. That was pure awesomeness. It makes sense, and then “OR…. This game just $#*%ing sucks.!” Love it. Great work.
October 7, 2010 at 12:27 pm
You know James, I thought that the game review you’d be doing in AVGN: The Movie (if it gets made), would be the extended version of this one.
But great review. Every great fictional character has an arch enemy, Sherlock Holmes has Prof. Moriarty, Batman has the Joker…
…and the AVGN has the Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES!!!! It’s so evil, it has a mind of it’s own.
October 7, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Hahaha, the part where the Nerd goes “Because this game is CERTAINLY a very STRANGE CASE indeed” had me laughing for an hour XD
October 7, 2010 at 12:37 pm
October 7, 2010 at 12:48 pm
Ah, Robert Louis Stevenson’s skeleton flipping the chopper. That’s something I never thought I’d see.
This was a good episode which contained all the elements of a classic Nerd episode, even if it’s not quite the best. Well done, enjoyed it.
Back to Monster Madness…
October 7, 2010 at 12:54 pm
AWSOME REVIEW but you forgot to show us the endings
October 7, 2010 at 1:05 pm
My God! You guys are talented! I wish you the best of success and happines! You are hard workers and I definitely hope that life rewards you for your hard work! Keep up the good fight!
October 7, 2010 at 1:24 pm
Awesome revisit James! Keep up the good work!
October 7, 2010 at 1:25 pm
October 7, 2010 at 1:33 pm
I never expected an AVGN-Video on your busy (and awesome) October Monster-marathon.
For that we shall thank you. 🙂
October 7, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Jesus, you paid 89 dollars for that pile of turds?
October 7, 2010 at 2:04 pm
This is the AVGN we’ve all come to love, welcome back sir!
October 7, 2010 at 2:12 pm
i totally guesed this one and holy hot dam is it funny XDDDDDD
October 7, 2010 at 2:36 pm
It was worth waiting for so song for this episode … =]
October 7, 2010 at 2:37 pm
wow. amazing. I wish I could count the layers of delights packed into this video.
the last few minutes of philosophical critique blew me away. coles notes + badass videogame reviewer = awesome
(i.e. informative like coles notes)
October 7, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Almost at episode 100! Great review James
October 7, 2010 at 3:10 pm
This is one of the best ones yet. I can’t believe you managed to sneak in the Rygar reference. I remember telling Mike about the almost note for note copy between both games.
October 7, 2010 at 3:24 pm
Robert Louis Stevenson’s skeleton flipping the bird and pronouncing the name of his own fictional creation Dr. Jekyll wrong… Thank you, James, I’ve seen everything now and can die a happy man.
Great one, by the way 🙂
October 7, 2010 at 3:28 pm
good shit. looking forward to the next.
p.s. PILOT WINGS
October 7, 2010 at 3:39 pm
The drunk rant on the floor was hilarious.
October 7, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Wow… I didn’t expect this to be as good as it was. Nice job, James. Masterpiece.
October 7, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Best episode of 2010! Keep up the good work James! That skeleton part was truly hillarious!
/ beers and cheers from Sweden
October 7, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Amazing as always, James. I especially loved the long rant while you were lying on the floor. You are a very smart and funny guy and I wish you the best of luck. :)))
October 7, 2010 at 4:07 pm
HOLLY SHIT!! i guest right 😀 im surprised you did an episode this month i thought you’d be busy with monster madness
October 7, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Great job, James! I laughed when you delayed putting the cartridge into the Nintoaster several times, and the pissing statue and shitting bird says it all. I’d never thought I would see a skeleton flipping the bird, let alone Robert Louis Stevenson’s . But my favorite part was the whole philosophical speech at the end, not only did it somehow make sense, but it was true to the theme of the game and novel.
October 7, 2010 at 4:27 pm
October 7, 2010 at 4:31 pm
How did we know this was going to be Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? 😛
Now that you have played and reviewed the game in much greater detail, don’t the sound effects sound like some other game like, um, Bible Buffet or other unlicensed games?
October 7, 2010 at 4:45 pm
awesome!
October 7, 2010 at 5:17 pm
i like the review n yes the game sucks bt i like to see more You know whats bullshit, sure after the monster madness can wait to see more anyway good jod keep it up
October 7, 2010 at 5:20 pm
Your original review was actually one of my favorite videos of yours. For me, the whole joke and humor out of it is that you really don’t even talk about the game or review it at all. You just rant about how horrible it is for the whole 7 minutes or so! It’s like you could just edit the video a little to make it so you’re talking about another bad game, for example Shaq Fu. It was comedy GOLD. I haven’t watched this version yet, but believe me, I’m glad you’re doing it justice now, this game deserves TWO reviews! 🙂 (Though it’s not all that bad IMHO)
October 7, 2010 at 5:24 pm
YAYYYYY!!! When I saw the purple suit in the last episode I had high hopes that this would be the next game! Well done! I love the new 1 episode a month thing. The episodes are much more epic. Well done all around.
October 7, 2010 at 5:24 pm
to be fair after watching this episode again, the humour had dun out, you should have stuck to the original episode and then reviewed another game, this was not your best, im sorry James, as I have total respect for you http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/retro/Index.php?ref=65348
October 7, 2010 at 6:02 pm
I new i was going to be Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde its really the easyest game ever just dont stop walking right
October 7, 2010 at 7:51 pm
October 7, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Just d’loaded this rom to my DS to try it out, you can avoid the bombs if you are far enough away or sometimes if you time it right to jump when its going off
October 7, 2010 at 8:26 pm
I Still know a game for NES with worse controls. I had to make sure to get the game guide just to be able to move the player icon in it. Not sure if you have it though and I do like the Music in it. The Game is AirWolf for NES.
The Attempt to force a lesson about not allowing Evil to progress past good was pathetic. But this was a much more in depth review of one of the near worst games ever to defile any Game console. I just think AirWolf might be a bit worse when it comes to control. Don’t forget its based off a Hit TV series.
October 7, 2010 at 8:39 pm
Wow… great conclusion and great job at taking one for the team for our entertainment james!
October 7, 2010 at 8:41 pm
on your 200th episode you should have all your charactors go to a bar and get drunk then get into a fight and by charactors i mean like bugs bunny and clingon and you know ….. the rest so keep that in mind and your my idol you make me want to make movies
October 7, 2010 at 8:46 pm
I saw the first review.. it’s was vague jajaja But this one it’s amazing !!! Great video..
By the way I saw this game the other day on the flee marked.. It look at me I look at it.. I remeber what you said on the first review Insted I bough demin sword jaja
Awesome Episode—
October 7, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Was that really scotch that the AVGN drank, or is it really apple juice?
