Cinemassacre.com faster

James / September 21st, 2010

How’s the site doing? Loading faster? Purchased a lot of new equipment. Should be as fast as turbo turds! Speed is what we need. Greasy fast speed!

Yea, seems faster to me. I guess we will find out once you announce a new video (monster madness probably).

It was getting really slow there for a while.

    September 21, 2010 at 10:00 pm

Holy shit, it’s definitely working… Blazing speeds over here.

  • September 21, 2010 at 10:01 pm

My bookmark to the home page 404’ed and I thought something was up. (It pointed to /new/index.php). The main page loaded faster but it hung for a few seconds the first few times I tried to click this blog post. After a couple of refreshes it came up.

  • LCmiracle

    September 21, 2010 at 10:06 pm

It seems the same as it was to me … However I never really paid attention to the internet speed. It is definitely faster to get in the homepage for sure.

  • DavidGX

    September 21, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Firefox warned me about this site being an “attack site” but other than that, nothing seems different so far.

  • LJN

    September 21, 2010 at 10:12 pm

    Faster than speeding diarrhea.

    September 21, 2010 at 10:23 pm

  • merripen

    September 21, 2010 at 10:31 pm

Definitely faster, but it now appears that http://cinemassacre.com/ (without the www) does not work.

  • September 21, 2010 at 10:37 pm

I feel like a Kentucky Fried Idiot!

  • Pun1sher

    September 21, 2010 at 10:37 pm

    September 21, 2010 at 11:24 pm

My bookmark 404’d but I was able to get on through a Bing search then made a new bookmark. Other than that faster than Lindsay Lohan back to jail.

  • Gioray

    September 22, 2010 at 12:21 am

    Fast enough

  • Rael

    September 22, 2010 at 12:41 am

It is faster! thanks for investing in the website man.

  • WillWill

    September 22, 2010 at 1:44 am

    Works great…

I got 404’ed as well — had to update my bookmark from http://www.cinemassacre.com/new to without the “/new”… Monster Madness time will be the proving grounds for speed, I’m sure!

Congrats on the new gear! Movin’ on up! πŸ™‚

Holy Crap! My comment got posted like Grease Lightning! Speedy Gonzalez!

  • blyatzkrieg

    September 22, 2010 at 1:46 am

I have a weird issue, sometimes the site will “reject” my IP it seems, I had to use a proxy to get to the site, maybe my ISP is getting blacklisted? Today seems to work fine anyway.

  • September 22, 2010 at 2:01 am

I’ve never had a problem with the speed, but if it’s even faster, I’m not complaining.

  • Gonzalo_vm

    September 22, 2010 at 2:09 am

Never had problems with the speed. Excelent news though!!

  • September 22, 2010 at 2:27 am

Im just curious, why do you host the site on your own server from your house instead of using a 3rd party hosting company or maybe amazon ec2? Nothing wrong with your doing, just always wondered why you chose this setup.

  • Terthoran

    September 22, 2010 at 4:26 am

    @Aalan Beebe

Perhaps because it’s a lot cheaper?
    Great speedy website btw.

  • September 22, 2010 at 4:54 am

404 when I leave the www. away πŸ˜‰ needs to be fixed

  • September 22, 2010 at 4:56 am

It’s actually in the webservice mapping.
You can configure a webserver to point to website XY when this url is requested or this url.
Like: You can have a webserver for 2 domains. cinemassacre.com and sucksmonkeybutts.com, each URL can point to a different site.
So I guess that you have a mapping for http://www.cinemassacre.com but not for cinemassacre.com

  • siilarsi

    September 22, 2010 at 5:08 am

    @Terthoran

Having a server at home is not nessacarily cheap business and amazon ec2 is ridiciously cheap http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/#pricing, were almost forced to use at my work due to cost issues associated with streaming and delivering web content to users

    On subject:
I haven’t really experienced any performance performance problems with the site, but it does load pretty fast now, thanks for a great site btw.

  • rschott

    September 22, 2010 at 5:52 am

  • Sigurd

    September 22, 2010 at 6:55 am

Definatly faster! Nice stuff. Can’t fucking WAIT for the MADNESS, and i hope you liked my submission saying it’s CINEMASSACRE’s MONSTER MADNESS; cheezy a capella style.

With Monster Madness, October turned from the worst month of the year to the best.

  • Gustaf

    September 22, 2010 at 9:29 am

I thought the site was down because http://www.cinemassacre.com/new/ wasn’t working. Now I changed my bookmark =)

  • September 22, 2010 at 9:39 am

Er, why did you *buy* hardware?

Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to either rent hardware, rent a VPS, or use something like Amazon EC2 to scale out?

I’m just an IT guy who’s mildly curious, that’s all.

  • Moertel

    September 22, 2010 at 10:18 am

    Indeed, itΒ΄s quite faster!

  • September 22, 2010 at 11:09 am

It’s faster, not that it was bad before, you actually run quite a good site! Looks nice, loads fast and smoothly, and no glitches in it’s britches.

  • Doom_master1122

    September 22, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Site is running a lot better James. Kinda freaked me out when my Bookmark didn’t work. All is well now

PS – You may wanna make a post, or block a user on your Youtube account. He is spreading rumors and spamming your videos saying you died in a car accident. May wanna take care of that, so people don’t start believing it.

  • DecCon83

    September 22, 2010 at 12:20 pm

Turbo turds!! Sound like a flu symptom i don’t want to get. But faster by far.

  • September 22, 2010 at 12:25 pm

HAHAHA!! SWEETNESS!! I love the Rocky reference, too. Great job, James!

  • September 22, 2010 at 12:26 pm

    Definitely much faster, good job!

  • September 22, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Don’t know if you will reply to this but what do you use to host the site, what equipment etc and also is it ‘Mac’ compatible.

I am looking for some decent hardware to host our site…

    Cheers dude x

  • September 22, 2010 at 1:43 pm

    @ Joe Staley
I know for a fact that anything James uses is Mac compatible. He uses a Mac. Just look in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde or Mr. Bucket. He shows the Macs quite clearly. AS for anything else, I have no idea.

  • Syph

    September 22, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Awesome, loaded fast as hell on my droid x with the new flash upgrade. Now I can watch everything on my phone!

  • Cal Bloomington

    September 22, 2010 at 3:00 pm

I love that it is going faster, but James could you embed the videos from gametrailers into your website? It would be a lot more convenient that way, the old way.

  • Cory Power

    September 22, 2010 at 3:03 pm

@Joe Staley James has a video showing the server from when he first switched over. It’s definitely a PC set-up.

  • nerdyguy64

    September 22, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I always wondered, I saw the website video James did of the servers and shit, but is it really true, you guys get at least 1 million visitors a day, because that is a fucking great achievement, keep it up, ever if not, I still believe you getting 10,000 at day a least! hope to see stuff in the future and of course cant wait for Madness!

  • nerdyguy64

    September 22, 2010 at 3:07 pm

ah fuck it, 10,000 isn’t shit, whats the visitor count each day?

  • ScaryManiac

    September 22, 2010 at 3:18 pm

    Holy crap!! Way faster…!!

  • danny

    September 22, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Only a minor increase in speed for me, but that’s likely because I live outside of the U.S.

Still, good to know you’re taking good care of your server. πŸ™‚

  • MasterOfHyrule

    September 22, 2010 at 4:34 pm

  • libz0rz

    September 22, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I bet that Cinemassacre could definitely catch a chicken now. With it’s greasy fast speed.

  • September 22, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Since you’re running WP for the CMS, make sure to use page caching or even possibly have the system create static pages to serve as it can reduce rendering the same page constantly. However, the site is running really fast. You probably don’t even need it.

  • September 22, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Freaking fast. I mean MOTHER FREAKING FAST.

This is ironic because lately YouTube (I think we all know how that site is relevant,) has been so super slow.

  • September 22, 2010 at 8:11 pm

    @ Spokavriel
    Oh, shit. Didn’t see your reply. Okay let me correct it;

[email protected] who replied to me excluding Spokavriel.**

Okay, I’m gonna be honest. I have no idea what you just said. please explain. Your description or whatever didn’t seem all that clear to me.

Hmm… I never have complain in regards in your site’s performance.. I don’t have any problems in general, actually (^^). But its a good thing you guys frequently maintaining your equipments. Keep it up, James and Thank You very much for your videos and works you have made.

@ALL who are complaining about ads:
Guys, you shouldn’t complain. Its part of the business especially if you’re trying to make money through the net.. and that’s not that easy to work with so instead of complaining, you should at least appreciate the efforts what James have made so far.

    September 22, 2010 at 11:38 pm

  • browncoat

    September 23, 2010 at 10:15 am

I think the site runs very well. Some of the videos are organized in places that you wouldn’t expect and some are hard to find, however its not enough to give the site a bad review. Thanks for all the effort. Most of us certainly appreciate it.

  • metawanderer

    September 23, 2010 at 8:31 pm

    September 27, 2010 at 2:11 am

i did notice that the site’s speed suckage disappeared. “turbo turds” hahahaha. and about the ads, i’ve never really noticed them. i’m betting its the older (age wise) fans who are upset by it, whereas younger fans would be more used to it and just let their minds sponge up the ads, haha.
