More Horror Trivia!

Mike / August 31st, 2010

This time we look at a new trivia book entitled “The Amazing Colossal Book of Horror Trivia”. The categories include, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Nosferatu, Dracula (1931), Horror of Dracula, From Dusk Till Dawn, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein and Ghostbusters. That’s it for Trivia Tuesday. Maybe we’ll do more another time.

Hahahah, Mike Mike, you had some problems with reading . Anyway, I just want to say that I enjoy those horor trivias you guys do. So, keep them coming !

  • TheInterworld

    August 31, 2010 at 4:29 am

I still enjoyed this but, I much prefer it with the video. I just did something else without sound on it.

  • samuraikill

    August 31, 2010 at 4:42 am

I think this needs video πŸ˜›

  • TehJedicake

    August 31, 2010 at 4:52 am

I personally prefer when there’s video, but I’m perfectly fine with audio also!

and damn! I got all of the Night of the Living Dead questions right except for the Sheriff question

  • pehmy

    August 31, 2010 at 4:55 am

This is soo awesome! MORE MORE MORE PLEASE! However, seeing James and Mike in a video instead of audio is WAAAAAAAYYY Better!!!!

  • Psychoholic

    August 31, 2010 at 6:25 am

The best trivia yet in my opinion.

  • Liam Gauci

    August 31, 2010 at 6:28 am

how DARE you not know EVERYTHING?! πŸ˜› lol

Seriously though, is this book better than Catapano’s mistake-wise? I would like to buy a good quiz book on monster movies but the Baby Boomer one has quite a few of mistakes or would you suggest a better one besides these two?

  • Liam Gauci

    August 31, 2010 at 6:32 am

btw, I would like more of these and I prefer audio-only because the video is a bit guerrilla-style so it’s usually not so clear anyway.

  • taichi1082

    August 31, 2010 at 6:32 am

Wow, what a coincidence… When Mike was announcing that creepshow was next I thought of the scene where he says “where is my cake” since I saw this is a kid and this scene is the only one I remember 8)

  • jakers11

    August 31, 2010 at 8:16 am

these trivias are so entertaining keep doing it

  • daggereye

    August 31, 2010 at 8:19 am

I only knew ghostbusters trivia I got all the questions right, and I knew some of the dracula questions which were pretty easy and I need to watch from dusk till dawn.

  • Dawson5

    August 31, 2010 at 8:51 am

I really enjoy the monster trivia segments. This format, without the bar noise, I thought was better. But, I think the first trivia segment, with video from the hotel room was easier to watch. All in all, these are lots of fun. Thanks James!

  • Liam Gauci

    August 31, 2010 at 8:53 am

hey James/Mike, any chance of having this as an mp3 so I can put it on my ancient mp3 player? hehe

  • StandingCow

    August 31, 2010 at 8:58 am

I enjoy these, but moreso with video. In fact, you guys should do it with no video editing (or very little) because that can be pretty funny…. such as in this one your cat being a pain in the ass. πŸ˜€

  • KennyH

    August 31, 2010 at 9:16 am

Very entertaining so yes, more please. I wonder if in the Ghostbuster question about the flying lions if they somehow screwed up and were thinking about the new video game cause a ghost busts out of one of the lions in that and flies into the library.

  • x3n0n1c

    August 31, 2010 at 9:20 am

Absolutely keep doing these sets of videos, I personally find them quite entertaining to watch/listen to. Though like others have said, if you are going to do a audio only version please just release it as an MP3 or similar audio file so we can listen to it on the go!

    Keep up the great work!

  • August 31, 2010 at 9:45 am

These are a lot of fun, but I have to admit I like them much better in video. watching James’ face when he hears a question really adds charm to the whole process. Boiling it down to just audio loses something.

  • August 31, 2010 at 10:05 am

Wow, a movie to fill the time waiting for another episode!

  • August 31, 2010 at 10:20 am

Video or no video James and Mike are fantastic…shall I say talkers? They could discuss Swanson TV dinners and I’d still be listening intently. I’ll continue to watch/listen!

  • redmonth123

    August 31, 2010 at 10:21 am

Yes, I can probably answer a few of these.

  • August 31, 2010 at 10:25 am

Of course we enjoy these trivia videos. I’m happy whenever ANYTHING at all is posted on this site. Every day I check this site at least 3 times to see if it has been updated. I can’t say that for any other website out there.

James and Mike could post a video of themselves eating dinner in complete silence and I would watch the entire thing laughing my ass off the whole time.

So, please….just keep posting stuff and I’ll be happy.

  • stickemup

    August 31, 2010 at 10:42 am

It is actually Count Orlok in the german version, although in the remake with Klaus Kinski it’s Dracula for some reason.

  • August 31, 2010 at 11:05 am

    that’s cool,

but I prefer with video, with some visual effects maybe…

  • Rasmus

    August 31, 2010 at 11:06 am

    I also prefer video.

  • Moertel

    August 31, 2010 at 11:50 am

Is there a download for the mp3 of this?

  • Nightshade

    August 31, 2010 at 11:56 am

Good but you could use video or some more images

    August 31, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I would suggest, finding pictures to go with the questions. Question about which Frankenstein’s Monster or whatever have some different pictures of some of the renditions of Frankenstein’s Monster. Basically try to have some visual stimulation to go with the audio.

  • 1randomdude

    August 31, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I liked video more, but not in a fucking bar (:

  • Phantom5800

    August 31, 2010 at 1:33 pm

I really like it, but it would be cool if you put up the questions as you go along (maybe with a picture from the movie)

  • August 31, 2010 at 2:29 pm

YES!!! JAMES DOESN’T CARE FOR POLITICS!! THANK FUCK!! Speaking of which, I don’t think James is for Obama. I hope not.

  • August 31, 2010 at 2:35 pm

I hate to sound like an a-hole, but I do know the ‘plot details’ of Horror of Dracula better thanks to some recent viewings. Still, I highly recommend some repeated viewings of the movie.

  • August 31, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Oh yeah, in case you two want to know. I did watch Capitalism: A Love Story and I remember one of the montages features Bela Lugosi’s eyes from Bride of the Monster. Sure I’m not into politics myself, but I’m always fascinated by what Michael Moore has to say in his documentaries!

Like I said before, I don’t really mind these trivia things. I am seriously going to jizz my pants when I watch the AVGN tomorrow. I don’t even care if it is subpar.

  • nitrorev386

    August 31, 2010 at 4:14 pm

I think Tommy shoots the gas pump to get it open in the remake not the original. in the original I think it has something to do with the torch. don’t quote me on that cause it’s been awhile.

  • August 31, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Yep, i’d say keep things like this comin!
Just listened to the whole thing, good stuff! I prefer video as well though, haha

  • weeble

    August 31, 2010 at 4:26 pm

  • zeromager

    August 31, 2010 at 4:27 pm

the only good thing about dusk til dawn 2 is bruce campbell’s cameo. i really didn’t make it far past that

  • August 31, 2010 at 5:09 pm

    @ Cal Bloomington
    Actually, there won’t be a new AVGN until the… 26th? I believe… 26th or 27th.

When the question came of where they stored the bodies in Dawn of the Dead I kept saying “come on James, in the freezer!”

  • Roge

    August 31, 2010 at 5:39 pm

Sorry to complain James – loved pretty much everything else you published but I had to bail out of these trivia vids – nothing wrong with a bit of self indulgence tho and u earned it – baggsy u on y next pub quiz team!!

    August 31, 2010 at 5:57 pm

When you asked the Cemetry man question I had the same response as you. “Ah Fuck!” I knew it.

All I could come up with was ‘that gay guy’ or ‘he was in Sherk 2’.

  • sutekh22

    August 31, 2010 at 6:21 pm

I’d be happy to give you a copy of Zombies on Broadway James if you want to see it. But trust me, you really don’t. It’s probably the worst movie Lugosi ever did where he talks. Worse than the Monograms even, IMO.

  • Yagami Light

    August 31, 2010 at 6:53 pm

To Answer your Question Mike, Yes plz keep doing trivia & anything you guys like to do cause honestly its entertaining to see you guys being yourselves whether its a random boardgame video, avgn video, trivia and other videos plus when i see your movie reviews and trivia i get a lot of incite and yes i could easily go to wiki or something like that but id rather hear it from someone who has a love or passion for what they do which reminds me, i wanna see more of you guys setting up the 8mm film and talking about those lol

  • Yagami Light

    August 31, 2010 at 7:04 pm

oh and another thing, im a huge j horror fan and was wondering if you guys watched any of the oldschool japanese horror’s or any of the new ones (NOT TALKING ABOUT U.S. REMAKES EITHER) but i recommend looking up takashi miike if you like Quintin and Rodriguez . 2 movies i think you guys should check out if you havnt already would be sukiyaki western jango (has a Quintin cameo) and the horror film Imprint which just creeped me out by how it was filmed but also the story… this probably wont be read, you get so many comments on every video probably because you guys are so popular lol just keep up what you guys are doing and have fun!

  • Yagami Light

    August 31, 2010 at 7:16 pm

oh yeah this is directed to the trivia videos… the audio is okay but the video is a lot more entertaining, idk over all its just nice to see you guys being yourselves and the bar would be an awesome place for you guys to be while hanging out and shoot the video , the only problem with that is the background noise, the hotel room was probably the best to see you guys but for you it might be boring to be cooped in a room just doing trivia lol i dont think you have to cater to our wants and i know whatever you guys decide to do about the trivia and other videos we’ll all be here waiting to enjoy them lol on a side note i cant wait for MONSTER MADNESS!

  • August 31, 2010 at 8:20 pm

Their both entertaining, but I agree with Yagami, I like to see you guys do this in front of a camera. You should keep making these things. I watch every video you guys upload too, not to sound obsessed, haha. It’s seems way fun to hang out with ya guys

  • Butch Bitch

    August 31, 2010 at 8:31 pm

I agree with most of the people here, I would rather also see you assholes on the camera than just hearing you. But nevertheless, Trivia is entertaining and made my day a little better. Of course, I would love to see you guys do more of these…except this time, call it “James Rolfe Knows”. And who knows, maybe you guys could try something other than horror like…It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad World or Hitchcock. Or even better, James asking Mike Elvis trivia. Motherfucker would blow that shit out of the water, for sure.

  • August 31, 2010 at 8:47 pm

I think this stuff is great. Yes, it would be nice to see you guys too but this gives me much of a radio feel. You guys should totally start a pod-cast type audio-download…seriously I think every one of your fans would download an mp3 of you guys talking about trivia and random shit. I would.

  • robbieg

    August 31, 2010 at 8:56 pm

Audio is good…. video is better. James’ thinking face cracks me up. It seems more authentic. It probably takes the same amount of time since your videos for the trivia are largely unedited.
    It’s fun!

  • IDaCashman

    August 31, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Personally, I liked the bar episodes, but you guys just doing it with no music or background noise at 1 am is a lot more dull. Not to mention, you had a lot more people around, so I don’t think this should be turned into an episodic thing. But do it whenever you go to a bar, ’cause then it will be nerdy epic awesomeness.

  • Mariusz69

    August 31, 2010 at 9:03 pm

To make the video more interesting, do it on a Friday or Saturday night and make it a drinking game where James drinks a shot whenever he gets one wrong. And I wanna see motherfucker Mike cause I have to admit I have a mancrush on him πŸ™‚

  • Mariusz69

    August 31, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Oh yeah one more idea. You won’t even need a third person to do camera. Just use *2* cameras on tirpods, each one pointing to each of you sitting in a chair or something. Then sync them up in Final Cut Pro and do a split screen.

  • August 31, 2010 at 9:30 pm

I liked watching the trivia videos. This audio only one seems dumbed down and I’m not actually interested in it.

  • brainofjtd

    August 31, 2010 at 9:32 pm

The video, literally, could not be more unnecessary. I didn’t watch a single one of them and just listened. It was awesome, but anybody telling you to make sure it has video: don’t listen. I imagine it prolongs the time to make the videos. Don’t bother. Just audio it.

  • Myxomatosis

    August 31, 2010 at 11:05 pm

I prefer it when you guys do a video, but the audio is still good. There’s something about seeing you guys that makes it a bit more authentic to the viewer, as if we’re hanging out with you guys doing the trivia as well. Can’t wait for CINEMASSACRE’s MONSTER MAAADNESSSS lmao.

  • Tom_Braider

    September 1, 2010 at 2:09 am

I think that audio is better, because in the videos there is a lot of noise in the place you are so sometimes I don’t really hear what you’re saying. I think that trivia the kind of stuff that doesn’t need video footage to be fun

  • LieK

    September 1, 2010 at 3:17 am

I’d love to see more of these whether video or audio.

  • September 1, 2010 at 6:47 am

They could have come up with so many better trivia questions for Ghostbusters. Like what did the Mayor call the Priest in his office when the Ghostbusters were being questioned about the cities problems.

Oh well not every Trivia book will be gold. Thanks for doing some Dracula Trivia. Even with that painfully fumbled movie you still know Way too much about it to be healthy.

About the lack of Video. It was allot less fun. I can honestly say I missed seeing the facial expressions to go with the answers. Whats strange though is there are some parts of this where Mike was almost as hard to hear as he was in the noisy restaurant. Does recording equipment just hate him? Or does he refuse to speak louder than it takes to talk to what he’s looking at.
Say he’s looking at the book page he gets quieter as if he only has to talk loud enough for someone as far away as the page to hear him.

    It was odd.

Since it’s now September 1st the submissions on Monster Madness should be closed. Looking forward to what comes from all the submissions.

Not sure if I will be around to check out new content on the 2nd since that’s my birthday and all but still enjoying and looking forward to new things added to the site.

  • VirtuallyJesse

    September 1, 2010 at 8:16 am

Thank you James and Mike, I enjoyed watching these trivia videos and would look forward to more in the future if you choose to do so.

  • September 1, 2010 at 11:10 am

I am in agreeance with others on these comments, why I love hearing you guys do this Trivia stuff, and yes it’s slowly becoming my favorite thing on Cinemassacre, I would still love to see Video with the Audio, even if your just at James or Mikes house or something.

Great video once again Mike and James.

  • ObSoLeTe

    September 1, 2010 at 12:01 pm

i really enjoy theses videos, well i enjoy all you videos blokes, keep up the awesome work

lol and a wtf at that “flying away statues” question for ghostbusters

  • redjack

    September 1, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I love these videos. I the video ones over just audio, but either way’ll do. Just keep on making’em.

  • Doctor Cheesius

    September 2, 2010 at 1:50 am

I think this would work better as a podcast, if you’re gonna do just audio, make it just audio. But to be honest I think part of what I really enjoyed about the other trivia vids was watching your reactions, and there were a couple of other people who you played off of and who played off of you making some jokes and such.

  • Mr. Arkadin

    September 2, 2010 at 2:19 am

I like audio-only stuff, including this and James reading that Mega-Man book.

  • mosaic.wav

    September 2, 2010 at 10:15 am

I really like this series of trivia videos. It’s funny to see how much James knows about these old movies and it’s fun to learn new things about all these old films. But I do highly prefer it with video for some reason. I have to agree that the bar setting is cool, but that the background noise makes it difficult to hear you sometimes. Still, the video ones were better, but this is still nice.

  • mosaic.wav

    September 2, 2010 at 10:37 am

I should add, I really do like when James goes off on a tangent about extra facts about the movies, like with Chaney and the vodka in the mummy trivia. It might make the video longer, but when he gets excited about it, it makes the video even more interesting and enjoyable. Also, random facts are fun.

  • September 2, 2010 at 10:31 pm

I HAVE THAT BOOK!!! i got it many years ago, i love these trivia videos but i agree that you should keep it as video and not audio. Keep up the good work and if your interested in haunted house reviews i co-own a website that does reviews and various other spooky stuff, check it ouw

hey, James, a request from a crazy cat lady in the making: what’s the equipment-eating little monster’s name, and can we see a picture? maybe let him wear your glasses for the shot? πŸ˜€

  • Kerminator

    September 3, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Although I do enjoy the trivias I really prefer the video format as opposed to just audio. It’s interesting to see the interactions of James and Mike as he’s being questioned. It makes it much more entertaining.

  • MacGyver1138

    September 3, 2010 at 8:04 pm

The trivia videos are pretty entertaining. I do prefer the live video format, though. It adds a little something to see you straining to think about the answers that are on the tip of your tongue.

In Ghostbusters, the lions at the New York Public Library do come to life, though they don’t fly away. There are a couple of shots of them kind of milling around.

  • alphazimX

    September 3, 2010 at 8:32 pm

When you first started doing these trivia video I thought they were good and interesting. Now I am starting to grow tired of them. Please go back to reviewing some games, or more Board game James videos to add a little mix up from these trivia videos.

  • Zlagie

    September 4, 2010 at 12:29 am

Hey Mike, don’t mean to bash you or anything but, in the movie Sicko there IS a montage where you see the slaves from white zombie pushing a wheel. Just in case you wanted to know. Sorry.

  • Zlagie

    September 4, 2010 at 12:34 am

    If you wanted to know.

  • September 6, 2010 at 9:51 am

    September 7, 2010 at 4:10 am

One small thought James, you mention the possibility of trying to play along. Well, this is hosted exclusively on your website, ever think about talking to that guy who helped set up your server and maybe making a multiple choice quiz that you can take before the video, which then calculates your total score and compares it to your score (maybe a percentage?) at the end? Might be fun.

  • Stickman007

    September 7, 2010 at 7:47 pm

so are the old zombie movies about the voodo zombies worth watching

  • JeffDesertFox420

    September 10, 2010 at 7:23 pm

I enjoyed hearing that I am not the only person who knows that much about Abbott and Costello. This is entertaining if you fully know what your talking about. I think your pretty funny, and enjoy your comedy features more. You Know Whats Bullshit, the fact that your not doing You Know Whats Bullshit anymore, i thought those were pretty damn funny. Oh, Monster Madness reviews kick a little arse too! If you wanna see a STRANGE movie, “The Yin And The Yang Of Mr. Go”, with Burgess Meredith and Jeff Bridges who plays a male prostitute when he was in his early twenties or something is incredibly strange.

It was interestin, but next time try to do visual.

  • September 20, 2010 at 5:29 pm

I really dig these trivia videos, but I would have preferred this one with video. I liked them in the bar setting, but even in an at home environment would be fine, because it reminds me of shit me and my own buddies have done.

  • Cronos

    September 22, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Sometimes I feel like an isolated farm house.

  • September 24, 2010 at 10:15 am

Trivia without actual video footage is like… really pointless.
That’s like doing exams at home like: Yea, I’m not gonna cheat you know.

Even though you don’t cheat of course, it’s kind of pointless as far as I’m concerned.

  • September 25, 2010 at 5:15 pm

I am not sure if you care, or not but the netflix version (the streaming one) has Orlock instead of Dracula in the titles.
James, I find these entertaining enough to listen to so keep updating your site. I can’t freaking wait for monster madness 2010!!!

  • October 3, 2010 at 5:25 pm

How dos James know so much about Horror

  • Vyncent

    October 6, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Honestly, I don’t really know what it is about these but I enjoy them. It does seem a bit silly from an objective standpoint. “Hey, lets sit around for 40 mins and listen to a guy answer movie trivia!: But it is interesting for some reason. So yeah, keep making these, with one caveat. I, like the others, love the videos you make. Obviously the video trivia ones were more interesting than just this audio. But that aside, we do all love your AVGN, movie reviews, and whatever else you put out. If you like doing these and are going to just sit around and do it anyway, you may as well keep recording and posting them. But I think we hope that it doesn’t detract from your other projects πŸ™‚

  • sjp_123

    October 13, 2010 at 5:08 pm

I really liked this because honestly I love watching your videos, but I do so at work and I have to wait until I have nothing else to do. When it is just an audio track I can do work and listen to it (my job takes less concentration than you’d think), and I really like that. Thanks James and Matt.

Fuck!! Abbot and Costello Meets every creature!!!

  • dbbuu

    October 16, 2010 at 8:51 am

I hate these Dam# commercials at the beginning of each and every Cinemassacre video!

I liked this ALOT. You guys should do podcasts informing people about game/film trivia! Maybe not in a quiz form, but rather discussion?

I love your guys’ trivia, but not the audio-only vids – interesting, but (like you said in the video) a bit boring.

I had to search this trivia thing because I didn’t notice at the time.

it’s well made and interesting but i find the videos more entertaining because of your expressions, your faces. It’s more similiar at having fun with friends. Moreover, the crazy godzilla-geek people in the pub were amazing πŸ™‚

(By the way, James and Mike, please let me know if there’s any reason you don’t want that distributed… not trying to step on toes or anything, just know a lot of people wanted an mp3 version of this and figured if I did it you wouldn’t have to… and can keep working on the movie!)
