ohhh, James. The problem with Spidey 3 is NOT anything you mentioned. To quote a review by Roger Ebert: “Kirsten Dunst sings.” Then Mr. Ebert continues on, only to state: “Kirsten Dunst sings.” He continues on again, and then: “Kirsten Dunst sings.”
THIS is the true reason for the universal hatred of it, I”m sure. The problems with the rest of the plot points you cited? Trivial! But there are limits to our abilities to suspend disbelief. Spidey can get possessed by an alien and then get buddy-buddy with the villains, but could he seriously pull off a swinging dance number while listening to that caterwauling? THERE is the problem with Spiderman 3!

i could not agree more with number 1. i enjoyed it alot when i saw it in the theater.
all my friends were complaining about all the impossible things, the only thing i kept saying was, … how about we RE-WATCH the old indie films, lets see how “realistic” those were, yeah.

I was in complete agreement about Indy. Yeah, the movie was unprecedented in the series, both in presentation and subject matter; but overall it was a good romp into a world that is so separated from our own. People complain over and over again about it and I can see what they dislike and why, but I still enjoy suspending my disbelief for these kinds of things. That’s why I go to the movies.

Actually, there were some real issues with Spider-Man 3.
Sandman had nothing to do with Uncle Ben’s murder, they made that up in order to create conflict. Then when he was confronted, he outright admitted he did it.
Not to mention boring filler scenes, Tobey Maguire’s annoying acting, the Sandman’s origin by stupid scientist, and how they try to make him a tragic figure.
Other than that, great video James.

Personally, my gripe with Halloween 3 (since they insisted on calling it that) isn’t so much the absence of the Michael Meyers storyline. That movie suffers from what i like to call the Shocker syndrome. For those who don’t know the film Shocker, it’s a good premise, it has great scary moments in places and starts out strong, but about halfway through it goes for camp value and doesn’t allow for the suspension of disbelief very well. Halloween 3 has the same problem. It’s genuinely creepy in atmosphere and tone, it has an interesting base premise, but when all of the plot elements come together…. it becomes a case of “what the fuck did i just watch?” To be honest, i wish the series had taken the anthology route like it was supposed to. The original film was a masterpiece and though i love Halloween 2, each of the following movies should have been their own stand-alone stories. I feel the same way about Friday the 13th. Each one was supposed to have been, and should have been a different story. The one redeeming quality of H3 is the fact that it doesn’t hold back and has a really powerful ending. But for me, that wasn’t enough to save it. I call do-over.
As for Spiderman 3, they did cram way too much into it. For an action flick that can be a good thing, but when a plot moves too quickly, it can be a very bad thing as well. And when you cram a lot into one movie, that tends to happen more than not. Also, the casting for Eddie Brock just wasn’t right. He’s a muscled jock who isn’t a bad photographer, but can’t get a break because of Peter always getting the best angle on Spiderman (for obvious reasons) and resorts to fraud in order to beat him out. He’s jealous of peter in almost every way and when the symbiote is cast off, it feeds on that hatred to become a fearsome tower of rage and avarice. Venom was just rushed and didn’t match up to the brutal scope of the character. And yes, the dancing…oh, god, what dancing. The sandman plot was enough for the movie, and the subplot of two enemies putting aside their differences was fine, but it seemed to come out of thin air. Not a horrible movie, but not worthy of the comic’s epic name.
As for T3, i agree with you that it’s a good action movie, but it ultimately comes down to the fact that the other movies had a genuine message to convey with an action sci-fi story as the vehicle. T3 is simply an action sci-fi movie made to make more money and it shows. Not horrible, but pointless in the end. It doesn’t even really set up the next movie that much. Just skip to Salvation.
And Indiana jones…well, why not? We all love Indy don’t we? True, the other movies were supernatural in tone, rather than extraterrestrial, but who cares? We’re here to see amazing locations (cgi or not) intense action scenes, death-defying stunts and Harrison Ford kick some ass. ‘Nough said.
As for the rest of the top ten… they’re worth watching and don’t deserve the harsh reactions they got. Halloween 3 and Spiderman 3 and Terminator 3 (i’m noticing a pattern here, aren’t you?) either aren’t necessary to the series they’re a part of or fall short of that which came before… or both.

Alright James, i don’t know if you read these comments, but i wasn’t satisfied with your argumentation in the end at all.
You pointed out that people seem to go with the opinion which is most popular, not thinking for themself and are nitpicking on the wrong stuff.
Well, i get more and more the impression that you are one of those guys who always want to stand out from the pack and take the anti-popular position no matter what, just to make clear how independent your are from hype and popular oppinions about movies.
Your judgement on movies often follows a certain pattern and this is reflected in your thoughts about the recent batman-movies, especially Batman Begins.
You were nitpicking the shit out of that movie and now your preaching how wrong it is to reflect a movie in such a manner.
This is sort of paradox, isn’t it?
Therefore i don’t really believe that you think for yourself.
The most popular oppinions (positive or negative) dictate your view on a movie, especially those which are debatable and recent.
If the majorty of people would have loved the aliens and atomic bomb-stuff in Indiana Jones IV, well….i’m pretty sure that you would have ripped this movie apart, just to be different.
You would have pointed out so many elements that are wrong in this movie, but now you have no choice but to take the opposite side.
So my message to you is:
Think for yourself and don’t dismiss public oppinions or “nitpickings” about movies just to point out how much of a move-expert you are, we get it James.
Everyone has the right nitpick on whatever they like and if certain people want to follow a trend (which is certainly true a lot of the time), so be it, doesn’t make such a oppinion necessarily wrong and less worthy.

Don’t be too quick to judge. You could say that any argument is nitpicking, even your own argument as to whether James is. When it comes to opinions, there is no right or wrong. He states his opinions and we as commentators state our own. He is provoking a discussion, not proclaiming his word is gospel or anti-gospel for that matter. I often disagree with things he says, but i often agree with his opinions as well. Just because someone disagrees with popular opinion doesn’t mean they’re vying for status.
I could very well say that because James is a popular internet persona that your statement above is rebelling against pop culture and that you are guilty of the same thing.

One can enjoy a movie even if it’s bad… this is taken to the extream if you have ever seen the 80′s “Flash Gordon”. Honestly, I’m not sure if they made it so blend by design. At least it gave me a lot of good laughs.

Ok I’ve gone off the deep end with my response. If you don’t want to see my comments on allot of the comments in this video skip ahead.
The Lost World stuck in my craw because from the Novels all it kept were the Raptors Ian and that special 2 cabin vehicle. Everything else ignores the source material and follows the old Lost World movie. Sarah’s character was a Man. Allot of survival elements and great dinosaur encounters were not even attempted until III which I wish was never made because it was an abortion just trying to make something of the rest of what was ignored in the books.
I didn’t know Ghostbusters II was criticized. I love that movie I just wish they would have used the proton packs more! In the first movie I believed that the business existed. But this sequel almost everything is going to dealing with the Slime. Nothing even being attempted to have the Ghostbusters really be back and dealing with ghosts as a business or advertising. Closest is the jogger which wasn’t haunting anyone.
I can’t stand Terminator 3, I admit I never saw it in theaters but I never liked action movies that lacked plot or more depth in other nuances.
Gremlins II is one of my All Time Favorite movies and like Ghostbusters II I didn’t know it was criticized.
The only things I don’t like about Back to the Future III is that it reuses too many things from the earlier movies. Like having a broken or unusable part of the time machine or the Manure gag. They went back in time and somehow instead of being fresh because chronologically it would be the first time it was just old hat.
Rocky V Is my third favorite. I still haven’t watched VI yet. Thank you for showing my favorite movie moment in all of the Rocky series. “Sue me for what?”-Rocky
I have not watched SpiderMan 3 because I have ALWAYS HATED SANDMAN the actor they chose IS SOMEONE I WISH WAS NEVER BORN So I have no direct criticism of the movie I just hate its ingredients enough to never give it a chance.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I admit I complained about the Monkeys but my mom and I were so entranced by how kick ass Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is (And I almost never use that term for anything) we didn’t even take much time to breathe until after they were dropping down the waterfalls. My only other problem was the music choice opening it. All the Earlier Indiana Jones movies were taking music to fit the B serials feel but now the music fits the era the movie is being set in.
I didn’t think about it before but I would love to see them get in touch with the Henson creature shop and remake the Alien sequences of this movie. Look at The Dark Crystal. Those were physically made. Just de-focusing and overlaying the film to put the Uruskeks into the final sequence. It would have been perfect for the feel! They had a physical crystal skull. The Henson Creature shop would have had more than enough to work with off of that to make it a Hell of allot more real!
I wonder how many other people watching KotCS noticed how many background elements were the same style as they encountered when in that first temple back in Raiders of the Lost Ark. They return to Central America and that style just felt so right in the final temple to knowledge the aliens had assembled.

Sure, everyone has his own oppinion and that’s pretty much the essence of my message to James, because he dismisses other opinions (especially popular ones).
Look, i love to watch videos by James and also agree a lot of the time, but when i comes to such a preachy tone and contradictory/dismissive agrumentation, i feel the deep need to type something.
Look Cerberus, watch the Bat-A-Thon Part 3 video and take a look on James’ thoughts about Batman Begins.
His first words are “Sorry, but Batman Begins is overrated. Should i just pretend to like and GO ALONG WITH THE CROWD?”
Well, this quote alone makes my point pretty clear.
He seems to have a very deep need to deviate from this so called “crowd” and the public oppinion often determines how he feels about a movie.
- If they are nitpicking – He wants to like itand looks for the good parts in it, just to be a contrast to all these complainers
- If they like and and even praise it – He looks for stuff to nitpick and stands against all these mindless fanboys who got blinded by all the hype
This is of course a strong simplification, but i guess you get the idea.

I’m sorry Camillo but, Batman Begins was over rated. Heath was a fine actor but, I can’t help feeling that part of the movie’s success was due to his death. Not only that but the movie lacked plot and a decent musical score. It was like a day in the life of Batman, completely boring and no suspense. Just my opinion and everyone is entitled to one. In this case I think James is spot on. I hated Batman Begins and long live Batman 1989!

Popular opinions are just bandwagon effect, and not true opinions.
Some people pretendt to like/dislike a movie with the same opinion they heard a critic or some other respectful person have stated.
The popular opinion people have of “Caligula” (Tintio Brass) is to say IT SUCKS!!!1! Even people who haven’t seen it say it sucks. Everyone bashes it because that is the popular thing to do. “Roger Ebert didn’t like it? Then I don’t like it either!!”. Well, other less known critics did like it, but they are not as popular as Ebert.
Caligula (unrated edition) is a masterpiece, my second favorite film of all time (only beaten by the star wars saga). I accept that some people don’t like it, but I HATE the popular opinion to bash it.
Like Caligula himself says: PEOPLE ARE SHEEP !

I can’t agree with the last one. If you enjoyed the movie, I suppose that’s what counts, but as for me I felt The Crystal Skull was a little too fast paced and flashy with the actions scenes. Their ultimate mistake, of course, was mishandling the “aliens”. You can argue they are someone’s god, but, well, that is a horrific misinterpretation of mesoamerican beliefs (no coneheaded gods I’m aware of, and I’ve studied. It was just considered an attractive feature, even in non-mesoamerican cultures like the Huns). The real crystal skull is almost entirely conspiracy theory nonsense having nothing to do with any religion in reality. The other movies at least had someone’s real god even if their worship was seriously misconstrued (Namely Kali, though her cultist followers, the Thugs, in past times did kill people).
Of course, that did not have to stop them from framing the aliens as gods of a fictional religion, but the movie does not deal with them in this way, instead treating the aliens as aliens, never really calling them gods or treating them as divine beings, just technologically advanced lifeforms. If you want to frame them as gods then the logic of the fictional world has to address them as such. Q was more of a god than these guys! The movie’s world I suppose was just too close to reality for the aliens to be seen as divine. Instead, it just comes off as uncreative and corny.

Spike kept acting up, pausing the video every few seconds. I think part of the problem was the annoying Last Airbender ad/trailer. I finally got to #1 and watched some of it, but then the page crashed for the second time. I was willing to let the video load for the THIRD time, but now I get an Error message. I can’t finish the video.

Well I got to Gremlins 2 before I couldn’t take anymore of that damn Airbender ad. I only agree with (so far). Gremlins 2 and Ghostbusters 2. How I loathe Terminator 3. I actually walked out of the theater when he said talk to the hand, but I have seen the movie in it’s entirety. I have never gotten through JP 2. I honestly get so bored with it, I get to the point where I either fall asleep or just give up.
I still think GB 2 has the best Egon line when he talks about straightening a Slinky. My friend and I were talking about Gremlins 2 today. I love that it is a spoof of the original, plus it has one of the best licensed video games ever. THey actually changed the movie screen gag in the VHS version, so that people would think their VCR was on the fritz. John Glover is the man… and since I haven’t gotten through the whole segment, I wonder if he’ll be mentioned in RObocop 2.

Marion tells Indiana Jones that THE MONKEY IS THEIR SON! Sure enough you have Henry III swinging through the trees. Also, the CGI was atrocious, but other than that I liked the movie.

Hi James. Longtime watcher, first time poster. Actually, we met back at the Iron Man of Gaming. You came over to an arcade machine where my brother Matt (who mailed you the American Gladiators game and a 4-in-1 pack) and I were playing Ibuki Warriors.
Anyway. I’m usually too ashamed to tell people that I actually liked Spider-Man 3. My hardcore comic fan friends told me it wasn’t authentic and my more critical friends say it was just a poorly made movie. I thought it was a good movie hidden under production politics. Had Sam Raimi been given more freedom (i.e. no Venom, of whom he is not a fan) the movie would have been just as great as the first two.
I do have to disagree with you about the new Indiana Jones movie. Shia LeBeouf was too distracting throughout the entire film and their insistence to use CG sets over traditional sets (like the forests and deserts) made the backgrounds look too fake. As for the aliens, sure, I saw it coming, but I’m also a history nut (not buff, I muddle dates and names but love learning) and plan on buying some of Dan Aykroyd’s Crystal Skull Vodka when I have some more spending money. Still, my problem with the aliens is that the other movies have a more mythical, legendary feeling, while the aliens were more science fiction.
One last thing: people didn’t like Ghostbusters 2? Maybe I’m too young, but I watched both movies for the first time when I was six or so back in 1993. I thought of them as a whole and loved them both.

First off. All of the videos ive seen made by James are awesome. I havent seen anything that i didnt like yet =). And second. Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull is a bad Indiana movie because what they brought into that movie isnt what i like to call fantasy, it was Sci-fi, the aliens. But beside that single part i thought they stuck true to what indiana movies are all about. An adventure with some stupid lines and silly scenes to make you smile and think “hah right only in an Indiana movie”

I hated Halloween 3 because of that goddamn song. Every 5 minutes, that stupid song plays….
Oh come on, the Star Wars prequels got more haate than the last Indiana Jones movies. As for the aliens; well….sci-fi is not fantasy, & the earlier movies weren’t sci-fantasy.

I always look at a movie as does it give me the ride I want when I watch it. It doesn’t have to be any good to me. There are some movies that I love that just suck at almost everything, but still, I like them. I like the crystal skull. It isn’t my favorite movie of the series, but I thought it was good. It was just far-fetched enough for it but yet realistic enough. That is what I look for those movies, not what the others had. I watch each movie for what it is on its own and not what it is based off of.

Let me tell you this, If they do make a Ghostbusters 3, I’ll see it just for nostalgic value. I really like the way you think. I totally agree with everything in the video, but I have some opinions here. Spiderman 3 could have been enhanced by nixing Venom entirely, make it all about the Black suit and Peter supposedly defeating it, but then end with the suit finding Eddie Brock and creating Venom, if it was left as a cliffhanger then they could have made a whole other movie with Venom as the main bad guy, everybody wins! Also my biggest problem wasn’t the rushed nature, but what a lame character Eddie Brock himself was, he was just some petty small little man, hardly worthy of being a nemesis to anyone, I guess the idea is that such a weak personality is easily overtaken by the symbiont, but that’s not how it went in the cartoon series or in the comics, and this is one of those situations where you have to stay true to the source material. But still, despite its flaws Spiderman 3 was still a good movie, I don’t know why they have to reboot the series, its not like Batman and Robin or the Hulk!
Also I loved Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, since when are sci-fi and fantasy not supposed to mix? Where is that rule written down? Did these people forget how Whales saved the world in Star Trek? or how pissed off they were when Lucas tried to give a scientific explanation to the force with the midichlorians?

Sorry, buddy, but I have to go out on a limb here and say that the only one not thinking here is you. Nothing in either of your posts is consistent, and reeks of that “how DARE you question the majority!?” mentality.
First off, that “paradox” you mention, wherein you say James is being hypocritical by criticizing the nitpicking of others (while still nitpicking himself), is completely invalid. For starters, this video is one of the few of his productions that takes a solid, opinionated stance on something or other. Just about every single one of his other videos are meant to be tongue-in-cheek, even his horror films. When he nitpicks a video game as the AVGN, is he really being serious most of the time? No. Half the time, he comes out and admits that he’s “just nitpicking” and has stated numerous times that he actually likes some of the games he claims to hate.
The same rings true with other reviewers like the Nostalgia Critic. It’s satire. It’s meant to be funny, not to be taken 100% seriously. James at least has the strong, plentiful balls to acknowledge the fact that many of his instances of nitpicking are superficial and, at times, outright silly…whereas many movie goers will take their nitpicking to the grave with them because they’re too proud to admit that their opinions don’t mean jack in the long run. So don’t blame James for having a good sense of humor – blame yourself for lacking one.
For another thing, is your concept of conformity and nonconformity broken, or what? Just because he said Batman Begins was overrated doesn’t mean he dislikes the movie JUST BECAUSE everyone else loves it. All it means is that the movie isn’t quite worth the attention it deserves, and he’s quite true in that regard; the movie simply wasn’t as great as it could have been.
As a further example of how this works, I personally feel that the game Final Fantasy VII is highly overrated. It’s definitely not the best one out there, in my opinion; because the game wasn’t localized in the same way as the games that came before it, the plot came off as confusing and incoherent at best. Furthermore, the main character Cloud was about as interesting as a sodden plank of wood, and the materia system totally sucked my ass…and yet, 99% of FF fans worship the game relentlessly. So when I “call out” the game as being overrated, does that mean I hate the game simply because everyone else loves it? Am I being “just another nitpicky nonconformist”? I don’t think so, as I, too, enjoy the game immensely – sure, it irks me that nobody else seems to see the glaringly obvious plot holes, translation errors, etc. that made the game so awkward to play…but that stuff is also what made the game charming, in a way.
In short, I wouldn’t be so quick to criticize someone who actually knows what the hell he’s talking about. James is an experienced filmmaker and reviewer, so I hardly think you’re qualified to question his integrity as a reviewer. I find it sad that his humor flies right over your head, but I suppose it can’t be helped.

Oh humble Nerd…I understand you probably wont read this,and I accept that, but as a comic book geek I feel the need to explain Spider-Man 3′s flaws,and no not in terms of it being inaccurate because cmon…they all are..I think a lot of the hatred came from people acting like they know what Venom is all about when they have no fucking idea. My personal hatred is how Sandman is portrayed as a good family man trying to save his daughter but in comic land (Stan Lee’s masterpieces) he is a psychotic gun for hire,be it for Hammerhead or Doc Occ….but I digress… Spider-Man’s battle with the Symbiote is far-fetched….it is outrageous that a random meteorite hits Earth next to Peter and MJ…When J. Jameson’s son in the comic goes to space and the symbiote attaches to the rocket and hitches a ride to Earth…which they coulda done in part 2 to lead up to 3……once again claiming that Hollywood is incapable of simplifying it and making it right because they have to dumb it down, mainstream it and feed it to everyone…when everything doesnt belong to everyone….They should make them right….OH! but people might not like that…WAH! Hey James, why isn’t The Matrix Reloaded on there? Most of the fans hated it, but I thought it was amazing. Of course it’s not as good as the first, the story took a weird direction, the new characters were annoying, and it felt like it had a different tone, but the visual effects made up for it. I think it has some of the best action scenes ever in a movie. It deserved more credit than it got.

I remember saying to my friends that indiana jones 4 aint as bad as they thought, and they would cite the fridge, the monkeys, the aliens, etc. Thing is, when I pointed out the good scenes (the chase in the warehouse, Indy’s reaction in the nuke-test town, the bike chase through the school, the crazy-awesome jungle chase-fights-swordfight, etc), they were all like; okay, that was awesome. A movie aint bad if you had fun watching it!

aww no clerks 2? i loved the first and i loved the second! too bad im the only one that feels this way cause the movie is a great comedy and the ending made me think of the first time i watched clerks1. at first i thought the black and white was stupid and out of date but clerks2 reminded me that black and white movies are the best movies! maybe its just me but the serious dante hicks and the cool randel make a fantastic duo that make me laugh every time there together in a movie. and dont get me started on jay and silent bob. the point im making is most movies even today suck most of the time but give it a year or two when people stop peer preshering you into thinking the movie sucked and give it your own insight.

I want to go on record that I liked Indy 4. I avoided all details of the promotion, because I didn’t want to know anything about it before going in. I didn’t even read reviews until after I saw it. I went in cold and I loved it! It was exactly what I wanted. I liked it better than Indy 2, by a mile (Indy 2 just didn’t have that international epic scope the other three have). I walked out of the theatre humming the tune and thinking about little details like seeing the Ark and that they brough Karen Allen back.
And am I the only person who caught John Hurt’s line at the end, that they aren’t aliens, but “trans-dimensional beings, actually!” Come, people, it was actually very clever the way they tied “aliens,” flying saucers, the crystal skulls and Mayan urban legends of aliens.
All I can figure is that people wanted to hate this movie because of the rash of big-budget movies based on things from their childhood over the years: Transformers by Michael Bay (had Shia LeBeouf), GI Joe, the Star Wars Prequels. Indy 4 comes along, with SL in it, and Indy’s not young and fighting Nazis, so in their mind it’s already doomed and they start bitching, “Why did they bother?” Then the movie comes out and with already thinking it’s not going to live up, they hop on the bandwagon of nitpicks and little details they don’t become excuses for how the franchise was RUINED FOREVER.
I pity these people.
And I stopped watching South Park like 10 years ago. I didn’t even know it was still going.

A glimpse of the good classics and the ugly sequels after them, is like any other sequel you have set expectations and is bad if they are not met, like similar to the previous one or far from the original! so is all about the mood you have at that moment.

Great video, especially the props for Back to the Future III and Gremlins 2. Personally, BTTF III is my favorite in the series because of how it ties everything up. And people don’t seem to understand that Gremlins 2 was more of a self-parody than a sequel anyway – and in that regard it’s brilliant.
One are of major disagreement with you is the “Lost World” bit. As a huge fan of Michael Crichton, I was mainly upset with how this movie completely trashed a wonderful sequel. The second book is far better than the original, but the movie is crap. The new characters don’t even have the same roles in the film as in the book. Huge segments of the story were completely removed and replaced with unrelated nonsense. Basically the only scene from the movie which was faithful to the book was the part when the trailer goes over the cliff. That bit was fantastic, but the rest – Total shit if you’ve read the book.
Also – you need to do a sequel to this video – seeing the posters for “Home Alone 2,” “Goldmember,” and “Naked Gun 33 1/3″ has me wondering your opinions on those sequels.

Indiana Jones 4 (or whatever you want to call it) is a dull movie. I watched it in the theater and bought it on Blu-Ray because it’s Indiana Jones… but I cannot sit through the whole movie anymore. It’s very boring and makes me roll my eyes until I ask myself, “Why am I spending time watching this?”… then I turn it off.

Crystal Skull does not follow the Indian Jones film universe. Forget the CG aspect, but aliens? The others have to deal with religion and history. CS introduces this whole other terrible aspect that does not belong.
SpiderEMOBoy 3 was too whiny, and you’re grasping at straws by pointing out the venom factor. The director put Venom in at the last minute because the film sucks.

I think you guys are being too liberal with the term Fantasy when it comes to Indiana Jones. You need to look at the zeitgeist of the last movie… Everyone was freaked out by Aliens and Communists in the 1950′s, just as everyone was freaked out by Nazi’s in the 1930′s.

You see, James… critics nowadays just review stuff for fun and entertainment, but sadly corrup their minds with their opinions and the fanboys just clap like mindless monkey. As for me, I enjoyed Indy 4, Ghostbuster 2, Halloween 3 (seriously, it was a creepy story) and even Start Wars 1-3.
It is true that everyone has an opinion, but nowadays, people don’t use their brains to make on. They only rely on ohters and that they are right, because those critics are famous and entertaining, which makes me sick.
I mean, just because I like a movie and post it, I get attacked by others because one critic said that it was a shitty movie… when thinks like this are happening, something is really foul in the system. I’m only glad that you were that frank to name it, after all you are a critic (not to say one of the first “angry” critics).

I didn’t mind the aliens in Crystal Skull… It was Shia LaBouf I hated… and the only reason spider-man 3 was bad was because it ended the series. Also, who hates Ghostbusters 2? anything Ghostbusters is awesome (with the exception of the show with the ape but that doesn’t count)

I agree with most of what you said because I too grew up in the 80′s and 90′s watching the, what I like to call,”The start of the end” What I mean is that CGI was brand new and rarely used, but when it was used it was used with taste and didn’t make the entire movie revolve around it. Think of the movie,”The Abyss” The biggest break through was the water worm, but it didn’t have the biggest role in the movie. The 80′s and 90′s group of movie goers like you and myself knew what to expect when we went to the movies and like you said, people of the new generation either want all CGI or go to the movies just to critic it.
I still haven’t had the time to sit and watch the last Indiana Jones movie, but I have seen all the others several times. If I wanted to see a non-fiction documentary i wouldn’t go see the new Indiana movie just to pick out what could and couldn’t happen in real life. I enjoy those movies as I do enjoy more of the realistic type films, but before i walk in I know what frame of mind to be in before the movie starts, like you said as well.
The new generation has no appreciation for what movie makers had to do before big time computers and when I made my comment about,”The start of the end” I meant that animatronics were on the way out and CGI was on the way in. What a shame that the new generation can’t understand the work that was involved in things such as stop motion anima. and puppetiers. Oh well.
I stated my thinking and I’m sure there will be a lot of others who don’t agree with me, but even though I’m not CGI’s biggest fan I still show appreciation for all movies in general even if I don’t like the movie. Perhaps the new generation should learn respect, but that will never happen.

Thank you!!! For the longest time I’ve been the only person who defended Indy 4. I never understood why people hated it so much. All those movies are stupid-fun and the 4th was no different. People are just way too jaded now.
As for Spiderman 3….I kinda liked it. I didn’t even mind the dancing scenes. It was just too long in my opinion. Too much stuff happened.

First I’d like to say that I’ve always liked Ghostbusters 2 just as much as the original. Maybe this is due to the fact that, wile I do love Ghostbusters, I never really thought it was that spectacular a film. It’s good, just not great like Star Was or Raiders.
Gremlins 2, I kind of liked more than the original. It actually captured a lot of the fun that thee original was missing.
Back to the Future 3 is by far my favorite of the Back to the Future movies. Back to the Future 2 was always a disappointment for me, so the third film not only made up for that, it also surpassed the first. (Sacrilege! LOL)
“…as if nothing far-fetched ever happened in an Indiana Jones movie” –Exactly! I actually really enjoyed this movie in the theater, aide from a LOT of crappy acting at the beginning of the film. (…and that shot of the Ark? WTF?! Yeah, we get it! We understand where we are :-p) And the whole “alien backlash” thing… I don’t get it. Maybe it’s bcz I’ve known about crystal skulls for years? Yes, some “archaeologist”, and others, believe that crystal skulls were used to communicate with aliens, as crazy as that sounds. :-p And didn’t Lucas want to make a Young Indi episode about Crystal Skulls? \:-|

I actually loved Indy 4, it wasn’t as good as the rest but I liked it a lot. All the scenes besides the end (confirming the alien’s existence) seemed to be straight up Indy style stuff. It was enjoyable, none of my friends did just because of the fridge scene. It’s silly but there’s sillier, and they haven’t seen any Indy movie before it.
Although I can’t defend Spiderman 3. Convenient twists (Harry getting amnesia), undeveloped characters, and the ridiculous moments made the movie horrible for me. I can’t stand watching the movie, it’s absolutely disgusting and disturbing that it came after the amazing Spiderman 2. I wish they got to make Spiderman 4 though.

I’m not a hater on Indy 4 either. Like you said the whole series had far fetched moments. So what? It’s all about Indy. How’s he gonna get out of his latest dilemma?
Ghostbusters II I am also with you on. There was no way they were going to follow the original equally but I liked the whole deal of the Ghostbusters pulling themselves out of a hole and rising to the challenge once again.
Gremlins II is just pure fun taken up a notch from the original.
Terminator 3. I think you hit on the head what bugs me. T2 pretty much ended the story. On it’s own it’s a decent action movie but I can watch it as that.
Spider-man 3 was too overloaded. I like it when you can concentrate on the relationship between the hero and one villain.
Back to the Future III I enjoyed quite a bit. I thought it closed everything up nicely and was still funny and full of adventure.
Can’t really comment on Halloween or Psycho II as I’m not much of a horror fan so I’ll take your word on it.

James, thank you for placing Indy 4 as number 1 on this list. I have defended that movie since the beginning, and I’m glad I’m not alone. You are exactly right about the ridiculous moments in Indy 4: they are NO MORE ridiculous than many moments in the first three films. People just can’t seem to go to movies to have fun anymore; they have to nitpick the shit out of hyped movies like Indy 4. It’s just sad how much Indy 4 is hated, because it is every bit as worthy an Indiana Jones sequel as the Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. The same can be said about the Star Wars prequels. So many people went into those movies expecting Empire Strikes Back all over again. When they found out that these new movies were nothing like the classic trilogy, they freaked out and bashed the films. The prequel trilogy is an awesome trilogy of films and awesome additions to one of the all time greatest movie sagas, but people are too busy focusing on how annoying Jar Jar is that they fail to appreciate what the other 95% of the movies have to offer; which is great science fiction action and drama with spectacular visual effects and music.
It just sickens me that people can’t just watch movies and enjoy them anymore. They have to pick apart movies until they hate them, or follow what the popular crowd thinks.

Some of the sequels, I equate to Highlander 2. They take a series and destroy the mythology, and beauty of the original work. I remember watching Gremlins 2 in the theater as a kid…. and I almost walked out (they did have an arcade). The aspect I found most destructive was the Smurfy approach to it. Bat-Gremlin, Dopey-Gremlin…. The original was dark, scary, and fun. The sequel was campy… very campy. It made it hard to watch the original after it was dragged through the mud like that.

I agree with most of the sequels presented here, but take exception with a few.
Terminator 3 – Was it a horrible movie? Eh, not really, but it WAS a horrible Terminator movie. And even if you want to look at it just as a mindless action film, it’s still not as good as others in the genre. Is it as bad as everyone says? Well, yeah…seeing as how most people I’ve talked to about it thinks it’s bad, not horrible, but bad none-the-less. I’ve seen the movie in the theater, and I’ve seen it once or twice on TV. It’s watchable, but I never plan on putting the DVD in and watching ever again.
Rocky V – The look was good, I’ll give it that. However it was way, WAY too weak a story. Sure, punching the villain at the end was satisfying, but to what end? Is it as bad as everyone says? I don’t really know, no one ever talks about this movie anymore…it’s kinda flim non grata.
Spider-man 3 – Sorry, dude, but this movie was straight up weak-sauce. You might like the fact that it’s fast paced and action packed, but this movie was the cinematic equivalent of waving a shiny object around to amuse a child. Neither of our villains were fleshed out, Peter’s decent into darkness was more a descent into being insufferable, and the big retcon to give Spider-man a reason to care about Sandman was poor in both conception and execution. It’s not so much a story of revenge as a story of convenience, especially with the tried and true amnesia subplot. Yes, the movie had it’s moments, but it was a poor entry into the franchise and a poor example of film making in general.
Halloween III – I’m including this one because I have something to say about it, even though it’s not that bad a movie. The problem isn’t that it doesn’t have Michael Meyers, the problem is that this shouldn’t be in the series. It was blatantly using the franchise to try and give this movie a leg up (kinda like when they called a movie “Troll 2″ that by all rights should have been “Goblins.” Also, they were misrepresenting Samhain, but that’s neither here nor there. Was it as bad as everyone says, absolutely not…but it’s a cheap ploy using the Halloween franchise to try and draw in box office figures.
Indy 4 – I don’t care if the filmmakers meant well, and I don’t care if they had fun making it, it was stupid. Why was it stupid? Because the vast majority of the film was a complete rehash of the previous movies, and the few new elements they had added nothing to the film. It was boring, monotonous, the action sequences were lacking, the villains were non-threatening, and the story was internally inconsistent. Sure, Ford was good, but that’s not enough to make up for everyone else.

I feel ver similar about michael Bays transformer movies. There’s so much hate about them, but then they are adaptions of a children’s cartoon and they should be viewed as such. I think if i would’ve seen it as a child my head would’ve exploded from all the awesome in there.

It was refreshing to watch your video about movie sequels that aren’t as bad as everybody says.
I had actually written up a review on Indy IV that mentions some of the exact points you make about how ‘far fetched’ is part of the franchises mythos.
Nitpicking has become one of my new nitpicks, haha. It just seems people can only find room to complain. I tend to be more of an optimist so maybe that’s why most times I walk out of a movie theater I talk about what worked before trying to judge what didn’t.
Obviously there are some films that are just bad. There have been plenty of really bad movie sequels, but many are judged unfairly and I’d agree with everyone of the titles you have on your list.
Funny enough, I loathed Spiderman 3 for a long while after its release. I was such a huge fan of the 2nd film that 3 came as a disappointment for me. However, as I’ve had the opportunity to go back and re-watch the film, it has grown on me. I’ve come to enjoy it quite a lot, though I wouldn’t say it’s great. It certainly pales compared to Spidey 2 but isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be for sure.
Here’s hoping that there’s a Ghostbusters 3 coming as all the rumors seem to suggest. Been waiting for that for, well, like forever.
2 isn’t the terrible film everyone says, including Bill Murray, and has its share of great moments. The scene with Igon and the experiment on the people seeking marriage counseling was just hysterical.
So thanks again for making this. I’m glad to see some optimistic reviews. They are a pleasant change to the abnormal amount of nitpicking that seems to go on anymore. Thanks!

I agree with all of that, Indy 4 was pretty damn cool – but i do think the aliens were mis-placed i mean this movie is all about mythological stuff and fantasy things but this was aliens and sci-fi, it just didn’t fit even in the movie itself, it still has tombs and caverns and artifacts but thn there are these aliens in their high tech space ship – granted they tried to make it work but meh it was still weird. and YES ghostbusters 2, everyone hates this movie and i think its just because it isnt as good as the first, but that doesnt make it bad in any way, and so what f it’s repetitive? that’s good that it doesnt stray away from the series and become somethign totally different. ONe thing i didnt agree with was spider-man3 – i didnt like (i didnt hate it) but it was so boring and the whole peter parker evil inner demons thing was alright but then they had to redo everything that developed in the first two like he broke up with mary jane and then he had to get her back all over again, i really didnt like it – and ya venom sucked – so yes he was thrown in last minute, but why? why couldn’t they leave the two (sandman and new goblin) and fully develop venom in part 4? maybe still hae the symbiote thing and stuff but then have the venom transformation as like a cliffhanger – and i dont think im nitpicking, what im talking about covers most of the movie, not individual moments – the fight scenes were pretty amazing though (short and far in between) but when they did happen they were incredible. I think spider-man 2 was the best BY FAR though. Rocky 5 was actually really good to me, i even thought it was better than 4 (despite having the most amazing fight scenes and montages ever) and which was like a rehash of 3 . Also i always loved Jurrasic Park as a kid, no matter which one and i thought part 2 was actually the best (back then) and Jurrasic Park 3 i thought was insanly cool – it was dinosaurs with a sort of treasure hunt and survivalist subplot, epic. And of course, terminator 3 – i loved this movie and it snt a complete rehash plot, there are several differences (not plenty though) but the action scenes are awesome, it has a great ending and the terminator is hilarious – it definantly goes more for popcorn entertainment than story and character development but it does satisfy and i never saw gremlins or psycho but they look pretty damn good. Back to the Future 3 was awesome in like every aspect, i loved that movie!! ive never seen halloween 3 thoguh – it actually looks pretty damn good and creepy – and im a hardcore michael myers fan! i still wonder how halloween 4 and on couldve been made when michael got shot in both eyes, blown up and burnt to a crisp but i was glad to see michael back, my favourite horror villian of all time. and your “think for yourself” thing, couldn’t agree more

Crystal Skull- Aliens in Indiana is as acceptable to me as Beastmaster: through the portal of time. All fantasy but pretty far off its roots. And as far fetched as the first movies were nothing nothing needed CGI to make it happen so even if it was impossible it looked like it could. CGI really brought the movie down a few notches itself in my opinion. If they could have found a way to use real ants in the end scenes it would have been alot more believable. And yes the refrigerator scene was just out of place and way over the top. Even as I watched it i thought to myself “WTF??” which nothing in the first movies ever made me think. Maybe because surviving the center of a nuclear blast is so much more overboard then simply falling out of a plane with an inflatable boat and landing in snow. So when i get the WTF feeling too many times in a movie it really ruins the big picture for me.
Rocky V- I pretty much agree there. Definately the black sheep of the series but I still enjoyed it. I pretty much watch the Rocky series from 1-4 once every year or two but part 5 i’ll throw in on its own here and there. But i will say this, sometimes violence is the only answer.
Terminator 3- Im suprised no one realised the Terminator from T2 lost his hand in that giant gear and they didnt melt it so they could have spawned part 3 from there although if they did i suppose it woulda felt TOO much like T2. Yes T2 had its humor but they held back at least a little, in fact they took some humorous parts out of the original, like where he’s trying to smile, probably because it was just too much for the type of movie it is. But T3 just didnt hold back on the humor and even went as far as making fun of the bad ass parts of the first 2 movies, completely ruining its chances of rekindling that feeling of “Dont ‘F’ with my bad-ass invinsable self”. And a hot chick terminator babe who can adjust her breast size at will just didnt cause any fear like the original Schwartzenegger terminator or even Robert Patrick was pretty scary.
Ghostbusters 2- I dont really have much to say about this one. I guess I can agree for the most part but I guess i feel that if you cant come a little closer to the level of ‘charm and delicate humor’ the second time around then the movie probably just aint worth making. Seen it a few times just to watch ghost busters doing something different but it just does not have a lasting impression on me at all.
Gremlins 2- Only reason i watch the first one anymore is because its a classic to me. Second one just seemed to be trying too hard to make a buck off of something that was good on its own so it never because a classic.
Psycho 2- haha no comment, never seen any of them.
Back to the Future 3- I can take it as part of trilogy pretty easy. I guess I liked it because it was basically the same story all over again but in such a different setting it seemed brand new. And I enjoy watching the character interaction between Marty, Doc and even Biff, there’s great chemistry between them all. And you feel like you know each character so well because youve seen their history and future. But yeah Claire was annoying LOL.
Spiderman 3- Enjoyable one time movie that i didnt expect much too begin with. I go into Marvel comic movies with that kind of attitude because I was never a fan of any of the superhero comics and none of the movies are good enough to make it to my home collection. Just big budget shallow eye candy to me.
Halloween 3- I remember catching scenes of this movie when i was a kid and it scared the living shit out of me, especially the scene with snakes coming out of the pumpkin mask. Didnt realize til much MUCH later that it was part of the Halloween series. I watched it when i was older to see if what i remembered was actually that scary and I had a hard time making myself finish it because it seemed so corney.

I just wanna say that at the end, when James says “This is cinemassacre saying, think for yourself!” Is Funny, Because Almost every single comment On this page is Agreeing with your thought on The movie. I mean, I for 1, Did not completly agree. I Didnt see the Point of the Alien. I mean YES he did belong In it, The facts add up and everything, But i mean, It just didnt look or feal good. But Come on, If you all Agree With James, Your Honestly Being Ironic. For god sakes people Think for yourself. No disrespect to anyone who agreed with james, i saw his point. My favourite is Spider-Man 3 becaue it I liked it more than the first movie which I liked more than the second movie.

I’ll have to disagree with your points on Indy and T3 (and be a bit surprised Alien3 didn’t make this list… people hate it for being nihilistic, but considering what the characters had gone through and what sort of a world they live in, could there really have been any other sort of resolution?).
The reasons I so greatly dislike The Crystal Skull mostly boil down to it being so very poorly made compared to the previous entries. The other Indy movies had a sense of scale. They felt grand, epic adventures largely due to on-location filming or grandious mat paintings. The adventures were tangible. With the Crystal Skull, everything feels very twee. The same sense of claustrophobia that shadowed the Star Wars prequels (and some of the horrible writing) clouds any sense of enjoyment I might have had over how momentous it is that Indy meets actual extraterrestrials. There’s no sense of danger and no sense of adventure. The CG just kills all of it. Which is puzzling since as Pixar has shown us, you can do CG and do it engagingly and realistically enough that people wouldn’t be pointing at the screen screaming “FAKE!” every time they see a monkey or an ant or an alien. Had the plasticy feel of the backgrounds, sets and CG characters been removed, I might have overlooked the Shia leBeouf character, Indy being very very old and the dummo writing that defies logic. I don’t mind a movie being illogical as compared to real life, but it should at least be consistent with its own internal logic.
As far as T3 goes… the movie’s saving grace is the final few minutes where they really start the end of the world. Everything up until that point is purely padding and as someone who didn’t go see this in the movies, the action scenes feel very tired and worn. We’ve done this before. We’ve done this a whole decade’s worth before in the 80s. Sure there are a lot of explosions, but again, we’ve seen explosions before and they pretty much always look the same. I have a hard time remembering anything about the movie up until those final few minutes. This is generally not a good thing. Big trucks and a few good actors wont save a movie if everything else in it is made of hot air. And that’s exactly what T3 is: it’s a short film about the end of the world inflated with hot air to fill 2 hours. They could’ve done it as a short film (15-20min.) to run before Salvation and nothing would’ve been lost.
I didn’t really know people hated Gremlins 2 though. I always preferred it over the first one because it’s tonally pure comedy. Maybe that’s why people don’t really appreciate it? There’s nothing even remotely horrific about it.

Now the way I see Indy 4: The old indiana jones movies played in the 30′s, and these movies payed tribute to the movies that where popular in the 30′s; the adventure films. Part 4 is set 20 years later (they had no choice there) and also it pays tribute to the movies popular in the 50′s, which where the alien invasion movies. So to me it totally makes sense for indy 4 to be about aliens. Where i think they might have gone wrong is the way they disguised the alien thing the entire movie as a religious artefact, making it seem like they didn’t want to let us know it where aliens. Also i hated the south park episode for the way they portrayed spielberg. But James’ point of them making fun of the audience as well is interesting. For the rest of the movies, havent seen most of them, but Gremlins 2 is a movie i loved when i sa it, never knew people hated it!

The Lost World: I absolutely loved this movie it was so fun to watch, I liked it more than the first, but that’s just my opinion.
Ghostbusters 2: It wasn’t as good as the first but it was fun to watch the Ghostbusters down and out trying to rise to the top again it was good.
T3: I loved the action, the story really sucked to me though. I can’t help but stack this up next to T2, in that aspect it sucks. In its own merit though the movie was a thrill ride.
Gremlins 2, Psycho 2, Back to the Future 3, Rocky V, and Halloween 3: I have never seen these.
Spider-man 3: A great spectacle, all characters were good and in depth, except for venom. The fight scenes were awesome, and Spideys struggle with himself is a good idea. I just didn’t like venom.
Indy 4: I loved this movie it brought me back to when I was little and my dad showed me those movies. The aliens were a good idea. It’s not nearly good as 1 or 3 but it’s better than Temple of Doom. Mutt is better than an annoying Asian boy and a really bitchy woman. Overall it was fun to watch and I personally loved it.
These are all just my opinions, so don’t get angry.

Indy 4 is, and will always be, The Fate of Atlantis.
If anything, Crystal Skull is number 5. Fate of Atlantis even feels more like an Indy title. The story is better and chronologically it’s also number 4.
I’m still a bit disappointed that they didn’t make the Fate of Atlantis movie, although I do agree that it’s not as bad as everyone claims.
I still haven’t seen a number 5 of any movie series that I thought was really good though… When movie series get up to that amount of movies they sort of stop being about the quality.

Funny how you say “think for yourself” at the end, when I couldn’t agree more with you (about all the movies that I know of in this top 10), but rest assured, you didn’t make my opinion, that’s already the one that I had, more or less.
As a matter of fact, I liked Rocky V more than you, even if compared to the other films it’s not as good, I found the story quite interresting, and wasn’t that disappointed.

trust me ollstufffan halloween III will make u wanna cry your eyes out i know i expierienced it before i didn’t watch tv for a whole month and yet halloween III still haunts me till this very day even when i’m asleep its like being in a nightmare having to watch that movie in my dreams every night and day and even my coffe breaks (even though i’m to young to drink coffe) it still feels like its watching me instead of me watching it anyway don’t watch halloween III cause *gulp* if u watch it it will scar u for life cause of how terrible it is but i still hope ROB ZOMBIE remakes HALLOWEEN III by the way i like his last name *ZOMBIE* now thats a name that puts a smile on my face (literally)

I personally feel that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull suffered the same fate as the Star Wars prequels. It was a over-hyped film that didn’t live up to the public’s unreachable expectation only difference is that Indiana Jones 4 was watchable while the Star Wars prequels weren’t

The Lost World: Jurassic Park – Never watched it or the first.
Ghostbusters 2 – Loved it. Just SLIGHTLY worse than the first for me.
Terminator 3 – Borrowed a lot from the second one, but was better than the first for me. Arnold as a good Terminator is the way to go. Someone tell me something. What does Arnie say here? At 3:49: _____ is good. Relieves tension and the fear of death.
Gremlins 2 – Haven’t seen it quite yet.
Psycho 2 – I’m getting there…
Back to the Future – Agree completely.
Rocky V – Good. Punching a bully is a smart solution.
Spider-Man 3 – Better than the second (which wasn’t bad, but still), but worse than the first.

Hello James.
First, i want to say that i truly love your job, your humor, your in-depth analysis and all that stuff.
I totally agree with most of your choices, except for Halloween because i never saw any of the Halloween’s movies, and, most of all, for Indiana Jones 4.
I have one major complain about this movie, and it is the refrigerator. For the rest, i agree with. The aliens never bothered me so much, and i knew that there would be aliens in the first place, so i wasn’t expecting anything else ^^.
First, take the nuclear scene apart : that movie is far inferior to the previous ones. One problem come from the special effects wich are not very good, there are some scene where Indy doesn’t seem very convincing in front of some landscapes. I found out i really prefer the special effects from the other movies wich were far more consistent and enjoyable to watch.
Now for the nuke scene : are you serious about it ?
I really agree with you when you say that there are a LOT of other scenes of Indiana Jones that are as impossibles as this one, but there is a WAY to expose bullshit. All of those scenes have a goofy factor on it and a funny development that leads to the bullshit scene, and it is that development that makes the scene enjoyable and make us forget about the Bullshitness.
For example, the scene were he uses a inflatable boat as a parachute in the Temple Of Doom is enjoyable because we can’t stop laughing at the woman’s insane screaming, and, also, all the expressions, the dialogues and pictures just before jumping. In the nuke scene, you have NOTHING funny or goofy before (only a, i’ll admit it, funny part after the explosion, but it is after, it is too late). You are just forced to accept it with no humor at all during the scene.
I really don’t know if I’m clear, i usually speak french so i have a lack of vocabulary, but what makes this scene Bullshitter than all the other ones, is the absence of Indiana Jones humor within. That is the major problem of the movie, the humor of Indiana Jones is less palpable during the film.
I have an idea to make this things really better (well… Only in my opinion…) : when Indy open the fridge, there should be a snake in it, and Indy, freaking out, having a dilemma between getting in the fridge with the snake, or getting busted. Finally, he chooses the fridge (of course ^^), and, just after the flash of the explosion, we have a camera shot in the dark fridge were Indy is starring at the snake, sweating as shit. And, after the landing, Indiana should break the door and jump of the fridge witth an expression of fear, leaving the explosion as a background.
For me, this would be A LOT more funnier and acceptable.
I really can stand bullshit, but there is a way to show bullshit to the viewers…

I thought spiderman 3 was awesome but part II i didn’t like it that much the only parts i did like was the action scene and Halloween III well theres a remake but no ROB so they tossed out rob and forgot about him it was confirmed that he wanted to make a third sequel but didn’t get the rights from universal to make it,but there might be a third one and that this time it actually centers around micheal myers it’s supposed to be in 3-D but it got canned for some reason i actually prefer the two remakes over the first two not saying that they were bad just that they had more blood and gore the original halloween had hardly any blood at all the only complaint i have with all 7 not counting three is the mask micheal wears in the remakes that looked pretty scary.

i remember watching the Crystal Skull in theater and i thought the fridge part was pretty cool.. in a desperate situation, all sense of logic leaves your brain and you put all your eggs in one basket.. after thinking about it, i understand every1s hatred of that scene but like James said it wasnt like there were farfetched moments.. i enjoyed that movie.. i thought the monkey part was kind of funny..
nowadays i sort of hate myself when i watch a movie cause i look for commonly used and often cliched lines and scenarios, like the whole “fate of the world” aspect.. it tends to bother me, like in the movie Legion where the baby is the future hope of the human race.. i just feel like we need a new cliche or a fresher way to present an old one.. take my previous example.. pretty much every movie that has the “fate of the world” line or plot has a chosen character that must survive to carry out the task of saving humanity.. why cant they be like “some1 do something” then BAM a random character saves humanity or something..

I would definitely put Transformers Revenge of the Fallen on there. It’s pretty much like IJ: CS, people just nit pick on things that make no sense to the big picture of the movie. It wasn’t great, but it was an awesome action movie and added to the story a little bit. I thought it was good, but people just picked out the dumbest points and they disregard the whole film.

This list is great! I think I’m the only one out of all my friends who actually enjoyed the new Indiana Jones movie for what it was. I also really liked Spider-Man 3. I think that audiences don’t enjoy fantasy anymore. If you look at the latest reboots for Batman and James Bond, they take a much more serious tone than the older ones. The Batman movies of the past were like comic book movies, and the James Bond films were over the top and, at times, utterly ridiculous (i.e. Die Another Day).
Now, the new Batman movies are more serious than anything I’ve seen in a while, and Daniel Craig has turned Bond from a martini drinking, womanizing, winking at the camera type secret agent into a serious, depressed man with no personality and obsessed with revenge……….and audiences LOVE IT!!

I can definitely see why audiences hate Spider Man 3 so much. I liked it, but there were several things that I didn’t like either.
For example, Spider-Man posing in front of the American Flag. I’m German, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a little patriotism, but I believe you should treat it like your penis – don’t show it off in public and don’t shove it into other people’s faces. As a Non-American, this scene just seemed out of place.
The other thing was Venom. The design was pretty cool and the last battle against Spider-Man was a spectacle, but what I really hate was the portrayal of Eddie Brock. The depiction of him as a villain was incredibly forced. To me, he just came across as a sympathetic jerk, and I never really bought his transformation into Venom.
Aside from that, it was a pretty damn good flick.
Crystal Skull – yeah, I totally agree. I still don’t fully understand why people hate it so much, to me, it’s still a million times better than Temple of Doom.

@Crowbar – Spiderman takes place in the USA. Peter Parker is American, and Spiderman is an American hero. Get over it. I don’t remember people whining when Superman used to pose with the American flag, and he’s not even human.
