James / May 11th, 2010
Watch this on YouTube
This is a special episode I put a lot of extra time into (during the AVGN break).
With James Rolfe and Mike Matei
May 11, 2010 at 7:12 am
I am first!
May 11, 2010 at 7:13 am
Haha! I still have this game in my attic! Totally one of the best times I had as a kid
May 11, 2010 at 7:16 am
intense! you can really tell a lot of work went into this, it looks great! Especially the lighting.
April 2, 2013 at 11:46 pm
Oh, hands down! This is by far THE most hilarious video by James yet. I was LMAO the first time I saw!
May 11, 2010 at 7:19 am
Wow James, this is just awesome!
May 11, 2010 at 7:23 am
Ok also, I genuinely jumped twice during this video lol… the window and the shadow behind to couch x_X
“i turned you off!”.. “you turned me ON!” lols, hillarious. Very different board james, but totaly awesome!
May 11, 2010 at 7:25 am
LOL, when James is sleeping on the couch, you can see lotion and tissues on the shelf to his right.
aah yes good old stop motion effect. kudos!
May 11, 2010 at 7:27 am
That was some funny shit:D
May 11, 2010 at 7:29 am
OH my ball!
May 11, 2010 at 7:30 am
Loved how you “played” all the classic cliche’s from horrors. Although the Bucked didn’t attack after being killed only once, which suprised me
May 11, 2010 at 7:32 am
Dare I ask what movie you were watching when you fell asleep on the couch?
May 11, 2010 at 7:34 am
Great video, laughed my ass off. Nice house BTW.
May 11, 2010 at 7:35 am
Awesome. Reminds me of http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/409149
May 11, 2010 at 7:39 am
That was some bad-ass bucket!
May 11, 2010 at 7:44 am
Damn that was great. It was actually somewhat scary. And the the horror came from tension, not from shock effects. Reminded me a lot of Alien. Music, voices and lightning were all there. Yet at the same time it was fucking hilarious and I for one laughed more than I have ever laughed to Scary Movie or any shitty horror-comedy film.
May 11, 2010 at 7:45 am
Very good episode!
May 11, 2010 at 7:51 am
This was very professional, and i liked it a lot -as usual. It was Nosferatu right? the movie you were watching?
May 11, 2010 at 7:53 am
Hahahaha, this was scary and funny at the same time.
May 11, 2010 at 7:57 am
hey that was Nosferatu!!
what a great movie and this video was fantastic!! keep going James
May 11, 2010 at 7:59 am
That was awesome! like a mix of Board James and just regular James who likes making horror movies
May 11, 2010 at 8:01 am
holy crap! That was absolutely fucking amazing! Like really, wow. I was not expecting the audio, direction and cinematography to be so awesome on a board james vid… great awesome great brilliant great… wow. well done sir!
And the ‘Most Likely to Receive Some Sort Of Attempted Legal Action’ award goes to..
May 11, 2010 at 8:02 am
That was amazing! Much better than the previous nerd episodes and for me one of your best alltime. I liked a lot in this short film (I would call it that). Especially the using of lights – which creates a real creepy atmosphere. The scene with that oldschool telephone was also very great. ( Twisting the cable in your hand!!). At all it was one very cool reminiscence to old horror movies especially Childs Play or the Leprechaun movies -and you even had a jump scare in it !
May 11, 2010 at 8:08 am
New episode on my birthday. All is well.
May 11, 2010 at 8:09 am
HAHA YEAH DUDE! YEAH DUDE!
You guys are getting really good at what you do. Keep it goin buddy.
May 11, 2010 at 8:16 am
May 11, 2010 at 8:20 am
Actually, it was like a “Tales from the Crypt” episode. A bit creepy and funny as well.
May 11, 2010 at 8:25 am
The thunder sound effects sound exactly like in Zelda: Ocarina of Time when a storm is building up. Cool! Makes me feel like a naked dolphin again
May 11, 2010 at 8:34 am
That made me laugh out my ass.
May 11, 2010 at 8:36 am
Awesome work, James! Lovely to see how you use classical horror / thriller elements. Like lighting from below and sideways (the evilish / twillight effect), narrowed light from a different room through a door (light portal effect going from good to bad) and focus lighting (Mr. Bucket in the basement).
And the storyline is nice as well (…so typical :D). Introduction with funmakling around a “seroius” threat, a main actor researching facts on it and finally meeting the threat, but someone else is its victim… classical!
Woah, Mr. Bucket has your balls in his mouth?
May 11, 2010 at 8:39 am
I really loved the german expressionist feel, the camera vignetting, and the homage to Murnau’s Nosferatu. This has been one of my favorites.
May 11, 2010 at 8:40 am
Mike, you are one ignorant piece of shit.
May 11, 2010 at 8:42 am
Excellent episode. Lots of Cinemaphobia and 2006/2007 AVGN vibes from this one. The water splashing scene with the mirror looked VERY familiar for instance.
I wonder how many people will complain this was too long right after complaining Hero Quest was too short.
May 11, 2010 at 8:43 am
this is a Classic that u just created!!!!!
This Borad James is so unique and a one of its kind.
Sombody allready said it: this is a real Short-Film. This is more then just a “normal” Board James. This is AWSOME!
James and Mike what a combination,i laughed so hard, wow.
U guys now what ur doing. The Camera Work, amazing. The Lighting, brilliant. The Sound/Music,plain perfect.
This was a real omage to the classics old Horror Epics that James likes so.
I can only say: Keep it up James(and all that helps u),ur work is great.
P.S. This Board James realllllyyy deserves a Making Off i wanna see how u did it and what kinda problems u may had.Im so sure this was a heck of work.
Great video, James!!
and happy birthday
May 11, 2010 at 8:47 am
LoL, holy shit James! I was wondering how the hell you were going to have to say about Mr Bucket once the episode was like 1/4th over… but this was unexpected and awesome.
I never had the game (thank God, don’t want it sucking my balls), but I remember the commercial.
i just finished watching this video i commented a while back saying the only complaint i have is his videos are not long enough Well JAMES this video was def long enough and Entertaining as fuck Thank You im satisfied completely do more like this i duno what way but u know what way thanks Bro i loved this video BRAVO 6pack of rollingrock rateing
Cant wait to see your next videos Dont stop making vids james and we will keep watching
May 11, 2010 at 8:48 am
Oh man this video was both funny and VERY creepy at times. It actually reminded me of Childs Play a bit. That movie scared the crap out of me as a kid. Good work James N Mike.
I bet you guys laughed your asses off while making this video. I vote for Outtakes to be posted !
the best part of this video was when james calls mike and u see the kitchen light go on or whatever and their just living next to eachother its cool id hang with those dudes
May 11, 2010 at 8:54 am
That was unusually well done, but also disturbing, hateful and completely wrong.
May 11, 2010 at 9:03 am
Brilliant, brilliant video. Really well done and even somewhat scary. ^.^
May 11, 2010 at 9:04 am
I had a friend that lost a ball in a freak Mr. Bucket accident as a kid. I always thought it was a fluke… now I know better.
May 11, 2010 at 9:05 am
That was really fun to watch…and I must say that this was one of the creepiest episodes I have seen. the part where the bucket appeared in front of the window really scared me.
Oh and I guess the part where MF Mike tried to pull the buket away from his balls must have been so hilarious to play…
See but that’s the thing. You can do so much with so little things. It’s all about the creativity here and I like it very much.
May 11, 2010 at 9:10 am
At the least they could have made it Miss Bucket and gave it softer lips.
May 11, 2010 at 9:15 am
Another great video!
Your movie making skills has become amazing, you create great ambience of a horror film, while at the same time making it so comedic that its hard for me to stop laughing. This is true for most your videos. Simply love em, thanks for another great vid!
May 11, 2010 at 9:16 am
Hi everyone this is Jack Red, I just saw this episode and I got to say you guys really come up with some fucked up ideas.
The games I knew before the episodes were Mouse Trap, Crossfire and Mr. Bucket.
I am not sure if I had Crossfire as a kid but I do remember that commercial along with Mouse Trap.
Now Mr. Bucket I used to get toys by that company and I wondered why I never got that.
Well now I know how the fuck could they sell that to kids I mean seriously it’s like they take Elmer from Looney Tunes to entertain kids it isn’t right.
May 11, 2010 at 9:24 am
Haha, very funny video. Thanks.
And as much as I usually dislike Mr. Matei, when that bucket came on to him I thought it was hilarious. It felt like he was actually trying for the first time.
Good job guys. ^_^
This has to be the funniest Board James yet, even though it totally wasn’t a board game. Reminded me of Child’s Play how could an innocent children’s toy do the unspeakable?!
May 11, 2010 at 9:25 am
I love how you film it. the lighting gives it a cool effect of semirealism!
May 11, 2010 at 9:26 am
hahaha, awesome! all you videos need to to Mike getting a vicious ball sucking By the way, the first time mr. bucket peeked down from the rafters was fuckin’ creepy
Awesome video man, funny stuff.
May 11, 2010 at 9:37 am
When it went down on Mike, it was totally insane. he was like a real to-be-ball-less man
The part after the second phone call was really, I mean REALLY creepy, it was a fucking perfect horror movie job.
And all the details – stopmotion, Mike’s window visible outside was very professional.
I caught the glimpse that the mechanical pert was taken out in the drowning scene – you guys spared that ppor thing ^^
Really liked it. Most complex Board James episode this far.
May 11, 2010 at 9:41 am
this is the greatest thing ive seen all week. great job man, only you could take something as simple as mr. bucket and turn it into something demonic. amazing.
May 11, 2010 at 9:42 am
Best Board James epsiode ever!
5 stars *****
May 11, 2010 at 9:43 am
Kinda funny i guess..
You made a horror flick out of mr bucket! thats something else, you are truly a gifted director
May 11, 2010 at 9:44 am
That was so unexpected and awesome. I was laughing like crazy and creeped out at the same time, very strange
May 11, 2010 at 9:45 am
Holy shit, my Mr.Bucket is going out.
May 11, 2010 at 9:48 am
You actually succeeded in making Mr. Bucket terrifying, still funny though.
May 11, 2010 at 9:49 am
That was just awesome. I was actually a little scared until I realized you were being stalked by children’s trying to suck on your balls. You actually shocked me by betraying my typical horror suspicions too.
May 11, 2010 at 9:50 am
probably the best video you have ever made
May 11, 2010 at 9:52 am
Wow, damn great video! I like the classic horror lighting the best, great work, James!
May 11, 2010 at 9:57 am
Great video, James! Very well done and very spooky! The camera work and lighting were *perfect*. You’ve really captured the look and feel of classic horror movies.
And I *knew* there was something really creepy about that thing…Makes me glad I’m female XD
May 11, 2010 at 10:02 am
i wish i could get my Mr. Bucket to suck my balls
May 11, 2010 at 10:10 am
Whoa, I love it! It’s like a short horror film! Best Board James by a mile!
james you are a genius! your film making talents truly shine here.
never thought id be afraid of a bucket.
May 11, 2010 at 10:11 am
That was awesome. The lighting was great but what was really shocking was the audio. One moment I liked in particular was the panning effect on Mr. buckets voice, it made it seem like he was behind you.
May 11, 2010 at 10:13 am
Hated it. no no, just kidding, it was very amusing. The tension building was exceptionally well pulled off, and the camera work was beautiful. I especially liked how you saw Mike in the background on the phone when James was calling him, it was intriguing to see the different styles of cinematography meld together. Almost a Rosemary’s Baby meets Rear Window. I would be interested in knowing how long it took from pre-production to final release. The editing was impressive.
Good work James and Mike, taking a seemingly harmless children’s toy and making it appear terrifying. It would have been funny to see what Mr. Bucket would have done with the balls after having them in his mouth?
Good work James, Thanks for all the laughs over the years.
May 11, 2010 at 10:15 am
Never saw a good 12 minute long ball-joke before, thanks for the experience.
May 11, 2010 at 10:19 am
Good job James! These five minutes were way better than any new horror flick I´ve seen in past 3 years!
May 11, 2010 at 10:25 am
james, that was bad ass! great video. loved the suspense.
May 11, 2010 at 10:26 am
james, that was awsome man. keep up the good work!
May 11, 2010 at 10:33 am
Just simply brilliant. I really like the creativity you guys are doing with the videos.
No balls were hurt in making of this video…..
May 11, 2010 at 10:48 am
Never be bored again with Board James. I kind of miss the Nerd, but so far all the filler was good and this Board James (I was gonna use the initials but too many oral sex innuendoes are just too many) was an unexpected yet pleasurable surprise.
Also I’m jealous of your place: that basement looks so awesomely spacy!
May 11, 2010 at 10:49 am
The other guy in the video reminds me of Michael Cera
May 11, 2010 at 10:50 am
“I’ts okay! I don’t wanna hurt ya, I just wanna suck your balls!”
James, this was incredible. The cinematography was excellent and the lighting gave a true ‘horror’ atmosphere. Not to mention the obvious, it was hilarious.
The best Board James by far. Nice Work!
May 11, 2010 at 10:55 am
“I turned you off!!” – James as he runs off
“Noo you turned me on..” – Mr. Bucket
May 11, 2010 at 11:06 am
Oh my god, ha ha ha!
Just brilliant! How in the world do you DROWN a bucket?
I dont think anyone would play anymore board games after that except for those two.
May 11, 2010 at 11:12 am
Wow, that was great! There was a lot of creativity in this one and I love how atmospheric it got…despite being about something so silly. I have to say, I never expected this sort of thing out of Board James.
Keep it up!
May 11, 2010 at 11:14 am
this shud ave bin like a halloween special or somthing but i realy enjoyed it good work, also loved the way u used the lighting
May 11, 2010 at 11:22 am
one of your best videos
May 11, 2010 at 11:25 am
That could be more creppy if toy wouldnt designed so sweet.
Anyways, nice vid, like short film.
May 11, 2010 at 11:27 am
This is hilarious and awesome.
That was so awesome. It would be cool to see what you could do with a real movie budget.
May 11, 2010 at 11:35 am
Oh god damn you James, I’ve got one of those! Now I’ll never feel safe again…
May 11, 2010 at 11:39 am
I love the artistic style of this video.. nice shadowplay and music. Really gets you in the right mood.
May 11, 2010 at 11:48 am
Haha, that was brilliant, lol. I had forgotten about that toy,i didnt have any friends that had it growing up. TEABAGGED,lol.
May 11, 2010 at 11:53 am
“I turned you off!”
“No, you turned me ON!”
May 11, 2010 at 11:55 am
this is ur come back video! Not that u didnt have it anymore even when u was getting burnt out u was far more entertaining then most internet celebs, but this video was one of the best u have done and with all the vids u did and as classic as they are thats saying something!!!!
May 11, 2010 at 11:58 am
Amazing!!!! My friends and I would joke about that commercial all the time!
Ok, it’s official…I like Board James more than AVGN! Great episode, James and Mike!!
May 11, 2010 at 12:05 pm
best board james ever!!!
May 11, 2010 at 12:12 pm
I was laughing so damn hard while watching this. You really made my day James, thanks.
May 11, 2010 at 12:16 pm
Buckets of brilliance!
May 11, 2010 at 12:18 pm
Really cool too see you do some horror again! ^^
May 11, 2010 at 12:20 pm
I loved how you’d unhesitatingly abandon Motherfucker Mike to the Mr. Bucket.
“Get away from me! Suck his balls!”
The part where Mr. Bucket was outside the window, that made me jump. Excellent work!
May 11, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Bravo. Your work is evolving. Often I pay close attention to your home. Your a very interesting person.
May 11, 2010 at 12:30 pm
good thing your utility sink drain was clogged…
May 11, 2010 at 12:34 pm
Haha this was amazing, you turned Board James into a mini horror movie!
May 11, 2010 at 12:35 pm
Motherfucker Mike finally got what was coming to him, that motherfucker.
I’m amazed at how you could make a long & entertaining episode out of something so simple. You’re a good film maker.
May 11, 2010 at 12:38 pm
May 11, 2010 at 12:40 pm
This is Board James’s first game destruction, isn’t it?
May 11, 2010 at 12:44 pm
excellent vid, lots homage to a lot of the classics! great stuff!
May 11, 2010 at 12:46 pm
I definitely wasn’t expecting that XD
Although I was sad you stopped doing AGVN so often, I can see now that you’re putting a lot more effort into your other productions. Cheesy as fuck, but this was really good for a Board James episode. Legitimately a horror/comedy twist, and after the first couple times you made me actually believe the Mr. Bucket was alive- you know, in my imagination at least.
absolutely awesome! this was fantastic, James! bravo!
you know it’s weird. i thought it was just me and my friends who thought mr bucket was rather filthy. i mean, i remember sitting in the living room watching that saying,” wait, did he just say ‘balls come out my mouth?’”
brilliant film-making, James, and i gotta say the phone scenes with Motherfucker Mike’s window seen thru yours, that is just genius. where did you get that idea from, just out of curiousity?
You make the most epic stuff. I love the video that show your house though, you got the coolest fucking crib dude.
May 11, 2010 at 12:49 pm
Now that deserves a comment. Wow, simply amazing, I always knew that M r Bucket was up to no fuckin’ good.
May 11, 2010 at 12:57 pm
The best part was in the cellar, when Mr. Bucket popped his head out, then vanished again, and then eerily sang ”Eerrgh… I’m gonna suck on your baaaaaaaaawwwwlss….”
No wonder they stopped making Mr Bucket…
Thanks for making a merely amusingly suggestive child’s toy into an instrument of pure horror.
Also I love how you and Mike play with toys intended for 4 year olds when your wife’s not home LMAO. Do Elefun next.
May 11, 2010 at 12:59 pm
That was so awesome. It was unlike any Board James we’ve ever seen, but it was definitely the best. Keep these coming!
May 11, 2010 at 1:05 pm
Cojoneeeeesssss!!!! Baaaaaaallsss!!! XDDD
Love your work James, and this was no exception. 10/10
This was probably the best horror and comedy movie that has come out for a long time. Even thought it was short, it started with comedy, Then it changed to horror, and first time for years, I really almost jumped up from my chair when something scary happened. In the end I didn’t know if I should be laughing or be scared so I did little bit both. The mood was GREAT, none of the horror movies nowadays manage to set that type of mood and feeling for the scenes.
And to think that this was only a boardgame review…
With one word, the episode was AWESOME
May 11, 2010 at 1:06 pm
Does Mike live right next to you?
May 11, 2010 at 1:07 pm
This one was awesome, my favourite ‘ till now. The lights, the camera moves ( reminds me to Sam Raimi’s style). Your house is so big man.
I like your Army of Darkness poster, and, what the hell? There’s a drum set there? you have a music band? seriously, your productions are getting better and better.
May 11, 2010 at 1:09 pm
James and Mike.. This was fucking class! I loved the stop motion on the couch, the bucket coming in frame from the window and the drowning scenes.. Just class..
The best Board James atm.. And that does say a lot!
May 11, 2010 at 1:10 pm
“Mr. Bucket? More like Mr. F*ck It!”
I was totally expecting that line to come up.
But in all seriousness, you’ve been doing AVGN for so long, I completely forgot that you were a horror fan. This was definitely a pleasure to watch and just feels more like your early works, going back to the past and making independent movies with your friends. The time and effort it took to make this shows throughout the vid. Great work and now onto the next project.
P.S. You don’t really sleep on a single bed, do you? Married and all? Or was that just a futon in the corner for prop purposes?
