Okay, now I'd never wished more than today that James Rolfe listens my comment. Here it is... That was about to be one of the crappiest day of my life: Basic routine no special events happening that 8 december 2011. I came to college just to get back my D'n'D books and after 'til 6 p.m., nothing. FYI, I was about to make my first ever game review about Zelda Windwaker. Then, I saw what was about to be a sign of destiny, something that telled me that I will go far in game reviews. A simple janitor was about to throw out what happened to be OMG!!!! HeroQuest. I took it and looked in the box... everything was in there. Believe me or not but I played around 6 hours that day, just before noticing we were... 6p.m.

This story is true

Holy crap. I remember being a kid, and not being allowed to play this with my brother and his friends because I wasn't old enough... then we lost it one day... anyway, huge blast from the past! Super Nostalgiaing right now!

This game is awesome. I played it once and it is just like a tabletop role playing game. Namely D&D or Warhammer Fantasy Role Play. If you can stand waiting for everything to be set up, and if you have half a brain capable of imagination, this is a great game to play with a couple friends or siblings.

DonSkiver Yeah, this and Dragon Strike were regular staples at our house of nerdlings until we got into full RPGs.

yeah.
Lots of rules, Long set up time (around 15 min), have to keep track of stats... but if you take to the time to go through that, it can be a little bit fun.. but you need some imagination. I think its the randomness of it and how it sort of needs creativity for the storylines and use your head to get out of tough situations. Come to think of it its pretty much like a Role Playing game, like Dungeons and Dragons or World of Darkness. Except RP games have 10x more rules and have a even bigger set up time because you have to create your own character.
I barely ever played Hero Quest because my brother was busy most of the time. I think I played a RP game once.

That's one hell of a title card. So detailed!

I love that Board James always narrates the games with such an epic voice, but not even he was able to keep Mike interested in this game :P

2:35 - "Oh no, this is hell! this is hell!" xD that part made me laugh. When I was a child I used to play like that with the pieces of the board games (even chess!)

I think everybody has said this already, but I would LOVE to see that Zelda board game too. When I was younger I actually tried to make my own Zelda board game xD it was very shitty, and impossible to win, like Deadly Danger Dungeon.

I used to play this as a kid ALOT

The Zelda game was fun, kind of like an ultra simple version of something like this.

That one has great potential for a video. All the Zelda jokes you could shake a stick at.

It's been a really long time and I doubt this will get read by anyone, let alone James, but I'd really love to see an episode for that Legend of Zelda boardgame that was in the big stack o' games at the beginning.

can you ever play that zelda game you have

This game is awesome, and quite collectable. I only ever finished it once, and that took several session over a three year period to do just the 15 basic quests. There's several expansion packs that I haven't even attempted. Sad thing is that this is supposed to be a basic introduction to d&d style games.

They don't motherfucker mike for nothing. I want to see the board games I grew up with like Splat, Mouse Mouse, Grape Escape, Tip the Waiter, Don't Wake Daddy, or Thin Ice.

i wanna see Zelda Board game >.<

This is what happened every time when i played with my cousin. im always setting up the game (monopoly or some RPG) while he goofs around with my action figures, and by the time im done or 15-20 mins into the game, he goes "im bored, lets do something else". ugh...

I saw a Zelda game on that shelf! :O

How Do You Male The Title Cards?

you should review for board james the game " squad leader" me and my pa always played that it was tedious but fun as hell!

Man I have like, 5 copies of the original game, and then so much of the Advanced Heroquest expansion stuff it's ridiculous. It really helps for playing sessions though with all the extra pieces.

I always pick the dwarf when I paly this. It's without a doubt the character that's the most fun to play. I have this game so me and my friend usually alternate between this, RISK and Battlestar Galactica, but I think so far the Battlestar Galactica game is the most fun. If you haven't tried it, you should.

Have a good one.

Oh man, I was so happy to see Hero Quest on your list. Unfortunately, you captured the experience a little too well! Game was great when you had some like-minded people though. One of my favorites.

Holy crap, I saw Battle Masters in James' garage-- I got that game and never played it once, but I love all the models and have them in a box in my closet waiting for the day when I have the spare time to paint them. Like Hero Quest, the rules were just too much for the average kid.

this game looks awesome but complicated as hell!

I still have this game to this day. How many of you out there had the wizard using the staff finish off what the other 3 could not kill? Picture Barbarian first he walks up throws down several dice and swing and a miss. Then its the elf's turn, swing and a miss. Dwarfs turn, OH one hit, oh wait it was blocked. Wizards turn. HA HA what are you going to do with that puny staff little man insults the barbarian. Wizard rolls 1 die a hit and down goes the goblin. Every game I played as the master or the player this always was the case. I use the figures for regular d&d whenever possible.

I'm a huge fan of this Board James series. It has inspired me to do a video on the 1995 OverPower card game with Marvel, DC and Image super heroes. If anyone is craving more retro gaming you should check it out. Thanks!

Motherfucker Mike and James are the best internet charachters ever!

Did little muther fucker bored?

Play Zelda board game i wanna see please James

Btw, awesome title card!

Typical...
I tend to get angry at this kind of guys very fast. Guess I should had excercised my tolerance playing this kind of games with friends like those. But it's funny to laugh at their attention span.

Hehehehehehe, that video is so true to life. I remember trying to host Hero Quest games with my two sisters and a couple of friends. They would all be bored within 20 minutes of play. Dissapointing :-) Good to play with a group who share similar interests.

It reminds me of when I bought Dungeons and Dragons a few years ago, at the end i lost most of the pieces when fooling around with them and never really played it.

Holy fuck I loved this game! Rather than trying to be the story teller this always wound up being me vs my friends who often would try taking orcs and other monsters off the board when I wasn't looking. I countered this by placing extra enemies on the map at all times. Take that cheaters.

What a mutherfucker! Hes hillarious! YOu should have him in more of your vids lol Long live the Nerd!!

Oh dear. I remember playing this game with friends of mine when we were children. It was a good way consuming time; one round could take plenty of time, but it was worth of spending time with a posse of good fellows. This is seriously one of the most memorable board games I've ever played.

Was that a Zelda board game I saw, u HAVE to review that James! I would love to see what that is about!

I remember when I was first introduced to Hero Quest by a friend, at first I was bored like motherfucking mike.It takes some patience to understand what's going on but as I watched my friends play a few games and read some of the rules I quickly got hooked to it. I even made my own adventures "Hero Quest: Race against Time" with rifle soldiers/vehicles thrown in the mix.Supposedly the evil wizard opened a time portal and is causing chaos in the future and you have been sent to destroy him.

It was a funny video, specially the end. :P

One of my neighbor had this game and we played ALL THE TIME (I was always the evil sorcerer) and I always remembered this game. Thenmy brother found it at a flea market and bought it for me I was stunned! And its as fun as ever! I was delighted to see board james look at it its such an obscure and underrated board game

I want him to review Axis&Allies, I play the new version most weekends but I just want him to exploit the taking Russia in one turn trick on the old one.
I pissed of my dad so many times with that one. What you did was take all of your infantry and rush Western Russia and then use all of your tanks to take Moscow, and when you take a person's capital they have to give you all of their money and they can't make any untill they retake their capital. So without Russia the Allies automatically lose. They fixed it in the new one, Germany no longer goes first and there are more provinces. Ah, memories.
Also I used loaded dice but...

I loved the game! Back in the 80's, as a kid I wasn't allowed to play it, because my mother used to say "this is no game for girls" -_-
The first time I played it was at the end of the 90's. My bf of that time bought it on ebay, twice by accident.
But we found a way to connect both game sets, enhanced the rules a bit (so that support characters as the wizard would get some exp, too). I never thought it complicated, maybe because it was so much fun?

The real fun started when we bought another box of Heroquest that we found on a fleamarket because... well, just because we found it ^^
Heroquest-Overkill xD

At the end of my Junior High years, a friend and I, we use to play the hell out of this game. We ran out of content to use, so we started making it up. This has to be one of the best "board" adaptations of D&D. I have not personally plaed D&D but I have always wanted to.

call me lazy, but i don't want to read 300+ comments to see if it's been noticed... at the end when mike asks to play something else, his eyes flash green for a second or less... Lost reference? maybe...

Oh man! That happens to me every time I try to get people to play Hero Quest. Getting them interested in the game in the first place is enough of a chore than when you have everybody's character set up and you think you're finally gonna play it they just back out. Great video and great title card.
