Welcome to the new site! Let’s take a look back at how Cinemassacre.com evolved in the past 10 years.
Version 1 (2000-2003)
In the beginning, things were extremely basic. I was on a dialup internet connection and it was way before YouTube. My movies were still being distributed on VHS tapes. Having the ability to actually “upload” them to the internet was unheard of. For now, all I had was a written filmography and a gallery of stills to represent my films to the outside world.
Version 2 (2003-2008)
Lots of stuff happened. The major innovation was being able to upload videos, but they were only as quicktime files. Then Youtube happened. Then the Nerd happened. The rest is history. As the site got more advanced, it got more frustrating to keep up with.
Version 3 (2008-2010)
In response to the frustration, my web designer Ryan came to make my life easier. With additional help from Mike Matei, we all worked together and launched the new Cinemassacre. There were too many advancements to count. Making blog posts was easier and the fans were finally able to leave comments.
Version 4 (2010)
You’re now looking at it! It took a lot of work and frustration from all us, but it will make organizing videos much easier. Hopefully, it’ll also be easier for you all to dig up some of the old videos that have been buried on the site. We are still tweaking things, and have a bit of work to do, but for the most part, it’s up and running.

Love the new layout! The site is just like the videos, they just keep getting better!
April 8, 2010 at 8:09 pm
Great adventure those ten years !
I’ve been here, I believe… since 2006 or 2007, I’m not sure, well the point is, as long as the site is here, I’ll come around, too many great memories.
Good anniversary, and my conglaturations (^^) for everything !
Diego, from France.

Congratulations James Rolfe! You have dramatically evolved from an enthusiastic kid who loved making films to a sophisticated filmmaker.May the rest of your career become increasingly creative and innovative.
If I could,I would get a case of Rolling Rock and mail it to you–specifically if it were in a 10 pack
.
April 8, 2010 at 8:26 pm

April 8, 2010 at 8:27 pm
Well done on a great ten years. Heres to the next ten. Cinemassacre is easily one of my most visited sites on the internet.
April 8, 2010 at 8:32 pm
This new layout looks pretty cool, but I think the pictures on the navigation bar was even better.
April 8, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Dude, site looks awesome! Grats:-)

April 8, 2010 at 8:57 pm
I really like the new layout – it seems like a great way to find any video I want!
April 8, 2010 at 8:58 pm
James Rolfe kicks more ass than there are buttcheeks in the world.
April 8, 2010 at 8:58 pm
you guys kick ass. thanks for keeping up the website and supplying the entertainment. james, i will always watch your material. i have been a retro gamer/movie lover for a long time and you have shown me a lot of cool things i didn’t know about through your videos. i live in michigan, and am finally getting off unemployment, as soon as i have some $$$ to spare i will definitely be looking to purchase the Vol. 3 DVD. i am psyched for whatever you have coming down the road, whether it be AVGN, board james, movie reviews, commentaries, everything you do is so awesome and you are the man! i wish you the best.
April 8, 2010 at 9:05 pm
CINEMASSACRING refers to the efficient way in which my films are made, without a ton of equipment or pre-production meetings, ignoring all the extraneous things that happen behind the camera, when all that matters is what comes up on the screen, at the end.
THE CINEMASSACRE is the spiritual lifeforce; the unstoppable driving power behind my work; the pure insanity to make these wild films. When the obstacles are stacking up and it looks like there is no way to finish a project, I just go on a rampage and “cinemassacre” my way to the end.
TO CINEMASSACRE is to let loose with what you’re doing. In doubt? Just “cinemassacre” it, the same way a crazy artist would splatter paint all over his work and let the art gods take control.
THE CINEMASSACRE is me; my one-man production company which I started when I first got my hands on a video camera, in 1989, making over 100 short movies that “massacre” both Hollywood and Independent trends, but with one main purpose: to entertain.
April 8, 2010 at 9:09 pm
its cool to see where on the cinemassacre timeline i started following
April 8, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Your site is sexy as hell, but you still put the “fuck” in “i want to fuck you badly James”
April 8, 2010 at 9:15 pm
GREAT LAYOUT, Loving the changes!!!!
April 8, 2010 at 9:15 pm
Congrats, James! Your videos have inspired me to make videos, and even buy a retro-gaming console. Keep up the good work!
-Thomas-
April 8, 2010 at 9:17 pm
Wow! I never saw the version 1 and 2. I just known James’ Cinemassacre around 2008.
Regarding the new layout of your site, its nice! I haven’t explored that much but so far I find it more easier to navigate. Two thumbs up for the designers of the web =) I’m actually pursuing to be a Web Designer and your new site gave me some inspiration.
Keep up the good work, guys especially James. I always love your videos. your AVGN shows is actually the one that pulled me here coz obviously I’m a gamer. Although I’m not a big fan of movies, but your movie reviews are really entertaining and also informative (especially to those old movies and some movies that I never knew that its was already a remake of the old =) ) oh yeah almost forgot your Board James show. I also love that Brings me back to the times I’m still fond of playing board games.
Thank you very much for all videos!
April 8, 2010 at 9:18 pm
It’s definitely easier to navigate through the website but I will miss seeing the pictures on the navigation bar. Now there’s plain old boring text. It was more lively, colorful, and interesting with the old navigation bar.
April 8, 2010 at 9:25 pm
It looks better, but it is miss some nice features like the AVGN Videos Full List that made it really easy to find a specific AVGN video. Now you just have some ugly list with no title cards and too many pages.
April 8, 2010 at 9:26 pm
I remember when I first got a computer back in the day and stumbled across this legendary heaven of entertainment on the internet. I can not believe that it was 2001. I remember looking at the pictures and synopsis you would put up, it really inspired me to go out and release that creative side. Never would I of guessed back then however, that three years later you would come along and create some of the most genius content that I have seen on the internet. Your videos got me through university, and will continue providing for my entertainment needs. You sir are a legend, your videos are legendary and I can not wait for all the beasty ass things you have in store for us. I love the AVGN but I am ever waiting for more of your feature length films.
A toast to another decade of the Legendary James Rolfe!!!
April 8, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Looks pretty good now. Great improvement all around. The background also looks great on widescreen monitors, and the color scheme is in line with the older sites but still looks amazing.
April 8, 2010 at 9:28 pm
Congratulations James. I have been watching you videos since 2006 and thanks to you my english listening became better XD (I’m argentinian).
Keep up the good work!!
April 8, 2010 at 9:28 pm
The changes are awesome, but the most important thing is it’s still a great distraction from actually working.
April 8, 2010 at 9:29 pm
Cinemassacre just got better. And I think all the fans like the new layout.
Thanks James, Mike, Ryan and other possible persons who worked on the new version.
Congratulations, and I hope Cinemassacre live another 10 years and more
April 8, 2010 at 9:30 pm
People will bitch for a bit, then slow start to like the design. Such is how it always is.
April 8, 2010 at 9:33 pm
The new site is sweet!
April 8, 2010 at 9:36 pm
Congratulations James! I remember the first time I ever heard of you. I was on youtube and I ran into AVGN SPIDERMAN. I watched it and I laughed my ass of! So then I watched FRIDAY THE 13th, the THE POWER GLOVE. Finally, I was watching every AVGN I could find. Then I discovered Cinemassacre and saw your other work. I’ve been a fan ever since. Thanks for all the entertainment! And congrats once again!
April 8, 2010 at 9:39 pm
I approve evrry nut & bolt of this new version! Keep up the good work!
April 8, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Loving the new layout, James. My one complaint is that there’s only 7 videos listed page now (in the AVGN backlog, at least)…you used to be able to click on, say, 2008 and see every video for 2008 on a single page, now it’s split across 4 pages. A relatively minor complaint, though…keep up the good work!
April 8, 2010 at 9:41 pm
Nice improvement over the older site!
April 8, 2010 at 9:41 pm
Congratulations1 (instead on episode of AVGN, Ghostbusters on NES that said “Conglaturation!!!” ) James, when you was in 2000, there is no YouTube exist and it is too slow because it was in Web 1.0. On 2003, Web 2.0 exist! It is a fastest internet and it ever exist such as Flickr from Yahoo! so you using in QuickTime (actually I have one with iTunes on my PC) but it exist the YouTube so you don’t know about “Upload” before? On 2008, you leave to that sie “http://cinemassacre.com/NEWS/news.html” (Note: This is a dead link so, it redirects to a new Cinemassacre so don’t click that link) and you have a makeover with comment feature so we can leave a comment to James. So, happy 10th anniversary of Cinemassacre.com!
April 8, 2010 at 9:42 pm
Wow, really nice upgrade to the site here.
April 8, 2010 at 9:42 pm
I discovered cinemassacre 2 years ago when i watched the spider-man avgn episode, the rest is history.
This site is getting better and better, and you too, James, keep the excellent work!!!!
April 8, 2010 at 9:45 pm
@ Mike Matei
Oh wow, I never expected to get reply from James’ best friend. Anyways, I guess the large video images will substitute the old navigation bar, and the new layout does make Cinemassacre look more badass!
April 8, 2010 at 9:46 pm
Have to agree with the Wide Screen monitor comment. No problems finding anything. Love the membership and comment forums, they complete the site. Happy 10 years Cinemassacre.
April 8, 2010 at 9:48 pm
Good job on the new design! Looks dark and classy.
April 8, 2010 at 9:50 pm
Nice job with the new look
April 8, 2010 at 9:50 pm
Good work on the design, seems a lot of people are redoing there sites as of late.
April 8, 2010 at 9:59 pm
Congrats on 10 years!
The site looks great. Keep up the great work on your videos.
I’m a big fan and I always will be. Your videos are hilarious. I don’t think I could pick a favorite because all of them are great. Well… I guess that’s it, don’t wanna scare anyone off.
Here’s to 10 years and hopefully many more to come!
April 8, 2010 at 10:23 pm
The site looks great, but I have to say, I was really liking the the old one. :\
April 8, 2010 at 10:42 pm
The 10 year anniversary is on my birthday? Cool beans.
The site looks awesome, by the way. The background looks fantastic on my widescreen computer. Haven’t tried it on my craptop from 2000 yet though.
April 8, 2010 at 11:00 pm
The site looks fantastic. I like the way its setup.
April 8, 2010 at 11:02 pm
You have done well in these last ten years. I salute you James.
April 8, 2010 at 11:22 pm
Congratulations, Cinemassacre – James and Mike.
Keep up the good work and good luck in the future
April 8, 2010 at 11:25 pm
The site runs a whole lot faster than before.
April 8, 2010 at 11:29 pm
Awesome new look! I love Cinemassacre. AVGN, Board James, Movie reviews, You Know What’s Bullshit, great stuff!!!
April 8, 2010 at 11:31 pm
A very nice update, it looks far superior to the last design
I have only just started coming to this website about a month back , i went threw all 87 pages in 5 days and watched pretty much every video thats up
To James and the crew well done and all the best for another 10 years, bring on 2020 : )
April 8, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Looks great, but it will take a lot of getting used to. Thanks for putting so much work into the site for easier navigation.
April 8, 2010 at 11:54 pm
I like the new layout, but I still prefer the old one. The 3rd version was great for blog posts, and I love reading your blog posts. I’m not saying the new version is bad, but I still prefer the old one.
April 9, 2010 at 12:02 am
Great job guys, this looks very mature now. Great design.
April 9, 2010 at 12:30 am
Looks good but personaly, I think a little colour would look good on the roll over of the icons at the top right of the page, gray to gray is just a little gray dont you think ?
April 9, 2010 at 12:38 am
Also i have to agree with lander77477 the AVGN section is not as convenient, having to click through several pages insted of just being able to scan one page is a pain.
April 9, 2010 at 12:40 am
The new layout is alright. It’s cool and modern looking, however I’m not yet used to it. Being a fan of nostalgia and all, I miss the old layout. This new one is less visually interesting and stimulating too. I liked how before you could see the videos along with a still screenshot on the player, so you knew what you were going to watch if you didn’t recognize it from the title alone. The other layout was perfect in It’s simplicity and practicality, but oh well. I guess things change. Maybe with time, it will grow on me.
April 9, 2010 at 12:42 am
…but yeah, in all honesty, I miss the old one. I think it was much better.
April 9, 2010 at 12:50 am
Oh, one last thing. Under the ” You know whats bullshit” category. The episodes are numbered but they have no description about the subject matter. I wanted to show a friend one of those videos in particular, but I was forced to load them all using trial and error before I found the right one. I’m pretty sure on the old page, it said “pennies, printers, pay toilets” ect.
I don’t mean to be a complainer or anything, and I know you guys are still working out the kinks, but I’m bringing this to your attention just in case you weren’t aware of it.
I don’t want to see the new layout become something that a fan will have to make a “You know whats bullshit” video about. HAH!
Anyway, take care and PS (bring back the old layout!)
April 9, 2010 at 12:51 am
The one thing I can’t find is play times. On previous version you could see play times on older videos, not for the newest ones, but now I can’t even see them! Now I have to go open the video, wait it to load enough so I can see how long it lasts. You don’t always have time to watch longer episodes so you’d like to pick a short episode and watch it before you have to leave. But now I have to open video, wait it to load, look how long it is and then notice I don’t have time to watch that. Then after few tries I don’t have time to watch any episodes!
Play times. You don’t know when they are important.
April 9, 2010 at 12:51 am
Today is a very happy day, Cinemassacre gets a new layout, my first time ever having straight A’s besides at the beginning of the semester, and Pokemon Black and Pokemon White versions are announced. I don’t know how this day could get better………
April 9, 2010 at 1:12 am
Awesome website design. To be honest I sort of dreaded navigating, let alone looking at the website before from a style point of view. This new design is great though.
*thumbs up*
April 9, 2010 at 1:19 am
Very nice, it looks very mainstream now.
April 9, 2010 at 1:27 am
it looks great
April 9, 2010 at 1:46 am
I remember when I first seen your site way back it was one of the first I put into my “Favorites”. I thought it was pretty unique back then because no other site was like that that I knew of. You really are dedicated to your work.
Back then I remember thinking to myself “This website can go one of two ways” hahaha…always knew something positive would happen though.
April 9, 2010 at 1:47 am
I like the new look.
April 9, 2010 at 3:09 am
Happy anniversary cinemassacre! Thank you all for the great work and the entertainment!
Great new site, great videos and great team work! Thank you again!
April 9, 2010 at 3:14 am
wordpress was a very very good idea. site works a lot better than it did. Feels a lot more professional now.
April 9, 2010 at 3:17 am
to be honest: the menu is better now. the version before it wasnt obvious that you could click on the image beneath your logo.
but now the main content is somehow confusing! why are there 2 columns with content?? and i dont really get, whats going on beneath the menu…
it looks like there is content in a row from left to right? but beneath that, there is the same content but in columns??!
thats a very confusing layout!
i´d suggest, you do the menu as it is now.
only one column with the main content.
and maybe a second column on the right with different information.
the 2 columns have to be clearly seperated from each other.
now its just all thrown together somehow.
April 9, 2010 at 3:21 am
another suggestion: kill the right column completely and add pictures to the normal blog entries on the left column again.
and i´d kill the row beneath the menu too. or at least mark it as a special area, maybe with a different background colour, a title, 2 speration lines, or something like that.
April 9, 2010 at 3:48 am
A great update to an already wonderful site!
April 9, 2010 at 3:52 am
As said already, the old design was far superior.
I don’t like the new one.
However, congratulations.
April 9, 2010 at 3:58 am
IMHO version 3 is better… but hey… happy anniversary…
April 9, 2010 at 4:26 am
Awesome, I like this new design, but I’ll miss the 3 one
April 9, 2010 at 4:33 am
Realy nice. but there is one thing im missing. the AVGN episodes are now not shown as covers, and that was realy awsome
April 9, 2010 at 4:35 am
oh wait they are. sorry damn mozilla. now the site is realy perfect xD. so congrats. realy nice work
April 9, 2010 at 5:11 am
To be honest you could upload videos years ago, some people used quicktime but there was this Technology Called Vivo back then which was a very compressed format that didn’t look any bad, I actually downloaded full anime series in that format back in the day, over a Dial Up Network! it was awesome, so sad I didn’t knew your site back in the day maybe I could have told you about that.
April 9, 2010 at 5:12 am
And by years ago I’m talking about twelve years ago.
April 9, 2010 at 5:24 am
Congrats on your anniversary!
The new website is awesome!
April 9, 2010 at 6:45 am
Looking great!
Although the AVGN section isn’t as good as in the older one :/
April 9, 2010 at 6:49 am
What would we do without youtube AND wordpress! I make blogs on this engine too and I can tell that you made a really impressive upgrade! Looks like you put a lot more effort in design this time! Great job!
April 9, 2010 at 6:51 am
I do not like how it is setup now, but that is because I am used to the version 3 site too. It will grow on me. Very nice look though! I do like how it looks.
April 9, 2010 at 7:01 am
I don’t like the new Version. iPhone does not support mouse over menus. So i can’t watch any moves =(
April 9, 2010 at 7:17 am
WHAT WERE YOU THINKING ???
Let me explain :
Imagine I want to see the michael jackson’s moonwalker episode.
With the old site, I go on the cinemassacre site, click on the AVGN section, a full list of the episode appear. All I have to know is if the episode is more on the begining, the middle or the end of the list. Of course the list was long, but within a week I get used to it, and it take me between 30 and 60 sec to find my video.
With the new site, I go on cinemassacre, put my mouse on the AVGN section in order to click, and what the fuck ?
2010, 2009, 2008,… Are you kidding me, Am i supposed to learn by heart each release date of the 89 episode ?
I’ve discovered AVGN 4 weeks ago, it’s like if you say “ok man, you want to be an AVGN fan, so you have 4 weeks to learn the realease date of all the episode. If you want to be a fan, you’ve got to be hardcore, yeah” .
But I still want to see my video. Thanks to god a cool guy create a wikipedia page with a full list of the episode, so I find the realease date, click on the fuckin’ 2009 section, and here we are.
So, winter games, no, castelvania series, no, go down, go down, and…
page 1 !? What is this shit ! only 7 video on a page. Guy, I have a little internet connection and pages takes forever to load.
So page 1, no, page 2, no, page 3, no, so It will be on page 4 (or the wiki list contains mistakes), yeah page 4, my video, but wait, only one video on this page, what the fuck ? What the point of create a page for only one video, could you not just put 8 video on page 3 ?
What were you thinking ?! So I finally find my video after around five minutes of fight with the new site (It’s like beat an old shitty game). Not to metion, I will have to do all this shit again if I want to see another video.
Thanks guy, what an improvement, we go from 30 sec with the old site to 5 minutes with the new.
The Angry “AVGN” Nerd (yes you’re angry against nintendo for their shitty games, I’m angry against you for your shitty site).
PS : Don’t take it too seriously, I just try to write something in the nerd style. I still love your work (and sorry for the mistake, I’m french).
April 9, 2010 at 7:37 am
Being a new member i didnt get the chance to experience the older versions of the webpage but from the images above i can see that the site has come a long way. The new theme looks a lot more sophisticated and offers more options, not to mention it looks awesome! So congratulations and a happy anniversary
April 9, 2010 at 7:49 am
I second AAVGNN’s comment. The videos should definitely be organised differently.
April 9, 2010 at 7:54 am
Version 3 rocked hard ass. Im not too keen on the new layout but im sure it will grow on me from frequent visits.
April 9, 2010 at 8:00 am
congratulations! 10 years is a long time and we appreciate it all
but i too liked version 3 of the site more but i guess this is ok
April 9, 2010 at 8:05 am
Where’s the filmography now?
April 9, 2010 at 8:44 am
Congrats! I like the design of the new website but I find it more difficult to find videos because they don’t have thumbnails and they’re not all on the same page anymore.
April 9, 2010 at 8:47 am
I think that the new one looks way more modern and I like it.
April 9, 2010 at 9:04 am
congrats! miss the third one a bit, but i’ll get used to the new one
April 9, 2010 at 9:17 am
Well, of course, congratulations on the success and whatnot. That much needs to be said and kudos given where they belong…
…But I kinda have to join the bandwagon on this one in saying that I preferred the 3rd version better as the navigation was perfect. My biggest issue with the new site is that for whatever reason, when using Firefox, the site botches itself all up. For example, the mouse-over menus are crossing over themselves and every new video has “You know what’s Bullshit” taking up 10% of it’s preview icon picture. Perhaps these are a few things you could look into. Otherwise, best of luck!
April 9, 2010 at 9:17 am
Hi James,
I really appreciate your continuing efforts to make the site more appealing to the fans. However, in this version of the site it is rather confusing to find specific videos. I guess it would make it a lot easier if you guys could display all videos of a certain year on one page.
You might also think about rearranging the navigation at the top to make the particular buttons more distinct.
Other than that mentioned, I like the new website.
Please keep up the awesome work on AVGN, the movie reviews and the Bullshit episodes.
Best regards, anykey.
April 9, 2010 at 9:20 am
wow… i only knew version 3 :O. But any way, nice
April 9, 2010 at 9:21 am
Happy Anniversary
April 9, 2010 at 9:22 am
Oh yeah, and please retitle the Bullshit episodes
April 9, 2010 at 9:25 am
The design is awesome, however it takes forever to find your AVGN movies. You realy need to do something about it !
April 9, 2010 at 9:32 am
If anyone would actually like to visit the old sites you can go to
archive.org and where it says waybackmachine type in “www.cinemassacre.com” and you will see abunch of dates from 2003-2008 where they can show you what it looked like.
April 9, 2010 at 9:35 am
Yeah, change is bad. /sarcasm.
@ All having problems locating the videos. I don’t know about you, but when i type the video’s topic into the site’s searchbar, i’m pretty much able to locate it instantaneously.
Also: I have no layout problems under Firefox 3.6.3, the site “behaves” wonderfully.
That aside, i really like the new version, it’s a bit sleeker now than before, and you got actually more content on the main page now. So, continue your good work.
April 9, 2010 at 9:36 am
awesome new look. i even registered to celebrate this. long live James!
April 9, 2010 at 9:39 am
Hey James! Congrats on the 10 years. For about six months I ve been getting caught up on all your stuff. I got through ALL the AVGN vids then moved to you know whats bullshit, a few movie reviews, board james and just recently caught up with the NC vs. AVGN thing. I know its Late but I was relatively new to your site, so give me a break. Your stuff is a great mix of entertainment and facts. I love the recent board james with your homemade games. Any way keep up the great work and can’t wait to see what 2010 hold in store.
April 9, 2010 at 9:39 am
Happy 10th Cinemassacre Anniversary!
April 9, 2010 at 9:57 am
I love the new design James, I’m finally able to post comments. I made a wordpress account in some easy steps.
So, I hope you are enjoying your free time, and that you come back bigger, and better than ever (if that’s even posible)
You sir are my idol.
April 9, 2010 at 10:03 am
I started watching AVGN around early 2008, so I’ve seen v2-4. As a web designer myself, I really like how your site has progressed. Both visually and accessibility wise the site has improved greatly. Keep up the great work, and happy 10th anniversary!
April 9, 2010 at 10:20 am
Congratulation, James ! 10 years means a lot in the internet era.

I registered recently so I only got to see 4th version… cinemassacre really did make progress and I’m glad to be part of this new era, and others that will come too

Congrats on 10 years. This is my first time commenting but I’ve been an avid fan for some years now. your work is great and an inspiration to amateur film enthusiasts like myself.

I figured I’d register a user name for the 10 year anniversary! Definitly remember version 2. The new setup is nice, easy to use.

New site throws me off a bit, but I think it’s growing on me. Good job, James.

I love the new layout:-D
it rox my sox off.
No seriously, it is very well laid out. I hope there will be more James related content (Board James, Reviews, Etc). I enjoy those almost more than the Nerd…they have more of a personalized feel to them.

Keep up the good work(but it’s not an obligation). New layout is great and it’s easy to navigate.

The website looks real slick, but I miss having the full articles on the front page, having to click into them seems like kinda of a downgrade. If you’re looking to clean up the front maybe you could just have the latest article up there in full?

I there (or was there) really a big sign of Cinnemassacre by that road?
