Nice. I wonder just how hard it would be to find a complete game; and how much would it cost?
Definately a game worth searching out, when I have the time.
This game looks exactly like a game I used to have called Tornado Rex, in which you almost had to do the exact same things. The board was similar and you had these jewels you had to get and this tornado guy came down the path and bounced off the walls and tried to hit your pieces. Then you had to get back to the boat at the end. Really weird. . . .
This was by far one of my all time favorite board games while growing up. It was everything described and more for me and my friends. As for the comment that it was like Tornado Rex, to some point, yes, but it was infinitely more complex. Unlike in Tornado Rex, there are actually many different paths to take, not just a single primary winding path, there the only choice was “do I stop on the tile near the top of the track, or the one near the bottom here because if the tornado hits the wall and bounces around that turn I will be safer near the top or bottom.”
I used to own this. The box was so huge and the board is just glorious. I thik I spent more time just playing around with it then actually playing it as intended. This video gave me one of the larger waves of nostalgia I’ve had in a while. Thanks James! Epic work once again.
My sister use to have this board game. It was by far one of the best I’ve ever played, if not the best. Sadly we got bored of it, and chucked it and now that I have just watch this I wanna play again!
I still have this game! The COMPLETE version, with all the pieces and bridges and cards and balls. I agree, it’s one great ride. I oughta dig it out and play it again sometime.
I still have this game with all the original pieces! The cards’ illustrations always cracked me up and this was so much fun the play! I love the centerpiece too! Oh, and you had to get on the boat with the exact number on the die which sucked. My friends to this day have never heard of this game, and that made me sad. I hope he does Dynamite, Back Off Buzzard, Tornado Rex, Battle Dome. Some of the games that have gone extinct. =(
This game is awsome. My cousin had it and got me totaly addicted to it, but my parents wouln’t let me get it. I guess they figured they haven’t deprived me enough.
I wanted to buy it a couple of years later but they stopped making it. Years later they re-released it for about a years time. I bought it and still have it to this day with all the parts. now if you will excuse me im going to go play it
out of the 9 games that you have reviewed this one is the most expensive. I have to ask how much did it cost when it first came out . And why don’t asshole companies re-release the game. they just say “fuck u go spend 186 dollars on ebay!” idiots
Surprisingly enough, this game is straight from my childhood! Of the five members of my family, I seemed to be the only person with the patience to truly play this game by the rules – and while this is a fun glowing review I wish you had mentioned much of the aggravation this game does have. I’d venture to say I’m a huge fan of this particular board game, but it was annoying to play. Setting the marbles into the idol, hands moving around the topographical map…there was constant accidental member destruction. The character pieces were flimsy at best, and in general a game of cribbage could be just as competitive with half the setup time. It’s a great game, but despite the glowing review I wish there had been a little more of that ‘Massacre’ critique. Such a disappointment this game was sold as soon as I left for college three years ago!
do they even make cool board games like this anymore? all we get is shitty remakes of already good games….so why fuck with it??? i demand cool board games!!!
y’know wats funny? when i looked up this thing on ebay, under related searches was weapons and warriors, tornado rex, hero quest and crossfire and a couple others but its funny cuz james reviewed all of these games except for a couple i didnt mention but i think i find that funny
Just the other day, I actually found one of these fireball marbles in a chair that is extremely old. I had to dig my phone out that somehow teleported inside the chair, and out popped one of these fireballs from my childhood. If someone needs an original marble to complete a set, lemme know!
My god! I used to love this game! My family moved into a house and this was shoved into a crawlspace. The only thing missing was the demonic head but my friends and I still had a blast playing this game. It was years ago and I really wonder what happened to it.
(Guess I’ll look on Amazon)
Thanks James for reminding me of this gem of a board game!
JAMES….. You have to do a review of Key to the Kingdom !!!! It was my absolute favorite! and I cant explain it to my boyfriend since I dont physically have it any more. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do Key to the Kingdom!!
I’m a huge fan of this Board James series. It has inspired me to do a video on the 1995 OverPower card game with Marvel, DC and Image super heroes. If anyone is craving more retro gaming you should check it out. Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNZHX1Ua3ZY
At first i must say, english is not my main language so bear with me , that said here my comment: Im not a fan of board games they are too slow paced for me, but this one looks like a bag of laughs that just wait to be opened . again im sry if i made no sense XD
holy shit! I’ve got this game in my basement back home, the pieces were lost well before I was born so I always played with my GI Joes on it (not the large figures, the smaller plastic ones held together by a rubber band).
That’s for showing me how it was supposed to be played James! Pretty damn cool.
@PaulHagebock Forbidden Bridge was the shit

Will someone please tell me WHY the one guy thinks it is a good idea to “get the jewels” when there is a possesed temple screaming at you on the other side that it is forbidden?

April 9, 2010 at 12:12 am

April 9, 2010 at 12:15 am
But, it would be fun to see you and Mike Matei playing Fireball Island…
April 9, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Damn that’s a big game! Looked like a board game version of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom!
April 14, 2010 at 3:19 am
I still have all the pieces for my game.

Here is a picture of someone who did a hand-made version of the board because they loved the game so much (and had way too much time on their hands): http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/350424/fireball-island?size=large
