Is it cheaper to have a fiberoptic line, the 2 computers running 24/7 then just renting a server? I mean, even if they are connected to batteries, there’s probably alot of electricity being used.
$1500 per month?! If I were to buy currency for that amount, I would get 11.770 swedish fucking crowns!!! That’s 2 new computers A MONTH if you build them yourself! Jesus christ… That’s a fucking rip-off.
you have a good set up there James. as a network admin working for a company that requires 24/7 high availabilty its important to note how important back up is. keep up the amazing work you and your cohorts do.
I was watching this video today for the first time and just over half-way through it cuts out. It was at the part about backing up the site and “If everything goes down you can still view the site” The video isn’t playing for me now.
@Shinoda
Servers really don’t take that much power especially the Dell Poweredge T110s he has right there. I work as a managed service provider for local businesses and the power draw is nothing spectacular (I forget the exact reading.) and we’re using T410s. (essentially those servers MUCH bigger brothers). It also depends on if they have redundant power supplies. Also I notice it appears they’re using “Green” networking components which have much less noise and power draw. At least from what I see of the Trendnet Green switch.
I don’t understand…why would you ever get bills for 1500 a month? Don’t websites just shut down if the bandwidth gets used up and doesn’t virtually every webhosting service provide unlimited bandwidth???
i love this video because i like to think of websites, and the internet as a cyber planet known as the “Internet” so its funny to think that content from that cyber planet is floating in wires in your basement. lol
was looking for this video, new Cinesmassacre rules.
Hm, if I pay James 1,500 dollars do I get to met him?
Well if you’re Dave Mustaine I think he’ll waive the fee.
Pretty cool setup you have there James. Bet that cost a pretty penny, but must be nice to have the power.
I love the PSA moment there at the end.
“Because we care.”
Excellence.
LOOK AT ME! I’M IN JAMES’ BASEMENT! lol

@James I have to say, that is pretty cool! Damn, those bills are horrible!
