I have to agree that the controls for the new fighting games are getting stupid. There is no reason for the moves to be so difficult in order to play. If anything it will turn people off to the game. It’s not like it’s a new game. It’s target is a lot for the retros like us that grew up playing the original versions of Street Fighter. Oh well.
Great show and I think maybe you might have struck something. How about this for a title of a show “Three Guys Couch” That could be cool especially with your tallent I’m sure you guys could come up with a show like that and maybe G4 TV would give you a contract. I know I would if I had the cash of todays producers. Good luck and keep up the great work. You guys are great at what you do.

I still think SFIV sucks in a way. I mean I’m actually a huge SF fan and know every game in the series. in alpha 3 for example I can defeat almost anyone but 4 just puts me back in the beginner status. The thing is in 4 the pro-style of playing is not so much fun but more like tactical super-pro e-sport fuck. Often people end up just ducking and blocking in front of each other because they don’t manage to handle the strange new tempo, which is annoyingly slow on the one hand, but the combos must be typed in like super fast and it’s unplayable on a higher level without an expensive fightig stick.
So I would really reccomend GGPO for all Fans, and I’m really looking forward to SFIII online. and that’s when I’m gonna get myself an Xbox stick, because the one I have, although it’s USB doesn’t work, no, that would be too much a present to make it work on ps3 and xbox

  • October 27, 2010 at 10:59 am

I’ve got sf i’m not even sure how the combo system works, last time i played it before sf4 was alpha on the gameboy colour which i happen to be quite good at or at least i was lol.
is the guy in the cap from the midlands in england he sounds like a brummie a bit lol

Weird how everyone is claiming to have such a hard time with the controls. They’re super responsive, and more lenient than in previous SF games. For “shoryuken” input (forward down forward), you literally just have to mash the down and forward buttons twice, and it will register. None of the inputs are overly complicated, if you can’t do two hadoken inputs in a row, I guess you just really are “too old” to play this kind of game(?). I can see people having trouble with BlazBlue or Guilty Gear inputs or something, but these are as easy and it gets. The only remotely difficult inputs are for characters with arcade stick inputs (Blanca, Zangief, Vega, etc).

A lot of new games have really tiny text, and I think that’s got to do with the move to larger, HD TVs. they have a higher resolution, so smaller resolution images would appear pixelated on the larger screens. but when you get a HD game on a SD screen, everything ends up incredibly small.

  • March 4, 2011 at 2:36 pm

you should do a playing mavel vs capcom 3 :)

  • Eltro920

    April 22, 2011 at 8:58 am

Fuck Soul Calibur 4, why would I play a game where slow is too slow and fast is too fast? The samurai ones are the cheapest characters in the game, for they give you no reaction time to block shit. It’s an overrated game and I’d rather play Capcom VS SNK 2 over SC4 and SF4.

Also, why are the commands for street fighter games ridiculously hard? THEY SHOULD MAKE THE CONTROLS MORE USER FRIENDLY EVERY TIME THEY PROGRESS!!!

    Like this:

3 button layout (Light, Medium, Heavy), rather than a 6 button, because not all characters punch and kick.
    A dash button

    sweep = Down + L, poor damage
    crouch attack = Down + M
    uppercut = Down + H
    special melee 1 = Forward + H
    special melee 2 = Backward + H
throw = L + M, poor damage yet unblockable. It’s blockable if it’s a special throw because I can’t stand stupid grapplers with their overpowered unblockable throws and high their defense.
    focus attack = L + H or M + H
taunt = get rid of it, it doesn’t do anything but to lead you open to enemy fire.

Every time you use a special move, it should drain a third of Ex bar to prevent stupid spamming.
Ultras should cost the whole Super Bar if charged half the revenge meter. And it would cost half the Super Bar if charged the whole revenge meter. This way, you wont be so cheap in using an overpowered move TWICE in a round.
Special move time = 3 seconds

Any button = Sometimes, each button makes the move behave differently.

    Projectile = Forth x2 + Any button
Ex Projectile = Forth x3 + Any button
Short Ranged = Down, Forth + Any button
Ex Short Ranged = Forth, Down, Forth + Any button
Charge = Back, Forth + Any button
Ex Charge = Forth, Back, Forth + Any button
Charge from wall/Suck = Forth, Back + Any button
Ex Charge from wall = Back, Forth, Back + Any button
Anti Air = Down x2 + Any button
Ex Anti Air = Down x3 + Any button
    Rapid Move = M rapidly
Ex Rapid Move = H rapidly
Special Throw = Forth, Down + Any button
Ex Special Throw = Down, Forth, Down + Any button
Teleport = Down, Forth, Down or Forth, Down, Forth + Any button, uses an Ex gauge.

Super = Forth + All three buttons
Ultra = Back + All three buttons

Fuck having too many buttons to press.
Fuck having a split second to do a move.
    Fuck charging a direction.
Fuck Forth Down Forth for a stupid shoryuken.
Fuck LP LP F LK HP just for Akuma’s stupid super.
    Fuck having special throws unblockable.
All of these things I have fucked exist for no reason, and it makes the game hard for no reason. Why the fuck would you make a simple move a fucking chore to do? These people in the Capcom comunity don’t realize how far back they are with this unnecessarily complex concept of controls. What’s wrong with just 3 attack buttons? What’s wrong with having enough time to do special moves? Why do they complicate things ever since Street Fighter 2?

And the worst part is, people who grew up with this franchise don’t realize how unresponsive and non-user friendly the controls are.

Sure it takes skill to play fighting games, BUT IT SHOULDN’T TAKE SUCH CRYPTIC CONTROLS NOR SO MANY BUTTONS AND DIRECTIONS TO PRESS IN A SPLIT SECOND.

I had to make an account just for this. First off, if you think SF4 is more complicated than ST (super SF2 turbo), your flat out wrong. Go watch super turbo saturdays with damdai. I understand as kids you all thought you were good at street fighter because you knew all the buttons and could do a hadouken and could beat your friends, but any semi competent player at a local arcade scene would tear you apart.

seriously? that guy was impressed with MK vs DC? that has to be the stiffest, most non-fluid fighting game ever made. most of the crappy rip offs of SF2 on the snes were better than MKvDC. Sure you could easily do a move that looked cool, but if thats what you all want, you shouldn’t be playing fighting games, you should be playing games more focused on doing cool looking moves (devil may cry, god of war, etc). you don’t throw a hadouken because it looks pretty, you throw it for tactical and strategic reasons.

I’m not so sure why people cry over the fact that they can’t pick up a fighting game and instantly roll face in it. That happens in no games. Even user friendly ones, you cant play starcraft for the first time and expect to win against seasoned tournament players, nor can you with guitar hero or call of duty or halo or any moderately competitive game. I’m so sorry that ten minutes of your time is too long to learn how to hadouken and shoryuken. And quit crying about needing a stick, look at wolfkrone, vangief and shizza, 3 top tier players who play on pad, you can use anything to play fighting games besides an unmodded Xbox360 pad due to the d pad being god awful.

Also, above poster, you easily have the worst set of suggestions i have ever seen. Whats wrong with unblockable throws? You can backdash you know. ultras are overpowered? they are all easily safe jumped and can EASILY be reacted to on screen flash. you want to get rid of charge moves? really bad idea, it exists for many reasons.

your set of control changes are the worst however. hitting forward 3 times takes WAY more time than simply rolling the stick. you completely neglected the fact that dashing exists. 3 buttons in SF is simply not enough for zoning purposes. why would you want crouching Light to be a sweep? you want crouching l to be the longest range, move punishable attack? that makes no sense. is your standing H a fierce of a roundhouse? it makes a huge difference.

No wonder, they will never do any current gen reviews when people are complete assholes like some of the preview posters.

My beat em up fix i get from SF3:Third strike online edition :) My favorite fighting game :)

Hi guys!!! I found sooo way much Hilarious this video I’ve found here!!!! I hope you were rading these, because It’s really fun to watch you guys playing new games!!! maybe could a very good idea to do later on… One thing I got identefied (I’m sorry for my bad english) is that I play this game proffesionally and of course love the others! There as complex fighting games in your era such as Killer instinct , King of fighters as nowadays like Guilty gear , MvC3 or Blazblue! maybe it was when you’re a kid you expect to just play rather than learning every single freaking move… Because that’s the difficult part of figfhting games. You lose one week of practice, you’re doom!!!!
