@ 3:34 “tastes pretty bad, tastes worst than beer” LOL.
we have a lot in common, i have been creating since i was very little. i never had a video camera, but i remember making audio tapes in a similar style. i also made tons of comic books based on mario brothers and ninja turtles, flip book animations, drawings, and later paintings. i also made my own board games, although nothing as tough as your “deadly danger dungeon”… then i went to college for illustration and graphic design. but yeah, i would kill to do what you do. this video brings a smile to my face.
James when i first saw this vid about a month ago now i have an original idea for a movie i will be workin on thanks for the insoiration good luck on AVGN and yor other films
If I ever do get myself a video camera, all I can do is use my creative thinking power to make movies, and you would be the inspiration for that thinking power!
Greatest moment… after 14 and a half minutes of describing the hell you went through: “And then I got a computer… and that was the end of all that bullshit.” Awesome man.
Wow, you must have a lot of passion to go through all this.
I remember doing an “audio film” with my friend, where we would record ourselves on tape and put sound effects, but obviously it was all dialogue since only audio.
I didn’t think I would be interested in this video, but I started watching it and just had to go through to the end. Very inspiring indeed. Keep it up.
Thats just awesome mate.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
That kind of creativity deserver’s a bigger budget.

This is pretty amazing, I love finding this stuff out about people. I grew up in the early 90′s, I am just a few years younger than you, but I am pretty amazed at what a similar past we had as far as video games, board games, animation and “video editing” went. I used to think I was SOOO creative hooking up two VCRs together to edit my videos, recording my toys, drawings etc. My parents had an old VHS video camera that they pretty much let me have since I was using it at a constancy. I did alot of the same things you did and experienced the same thing with actors, my friends quickly getting frustrated and bored not wanting to remember lines and parts and being the perfectionist I am, it needed to be done a certain way or it didn’t look, sound or feel right in my mind. It’s funny though how you decided going the route of Live Action, because animation was too tedious for you, where as I find Live Action too tedious and am going the route in animation. Currently i am going to college and almost done receiving my degree in graphic arts, from there I plan on going to a 4 year college to pursue my degree in animation. AH! the good ‘ol days… Just watching this brings back so many fond (and just an equal amount of frustrating) memories. Keep up the fantastic work, sir! You have made excellent progress! I am so happy I grew up in the time period I did. As I am sure you did as well, not where it is now… Everything is at your fingertips and it’s so easy now, back then you were forced to use creativity, figure things out and develop your own techniques…. I believe this built great character and skills in people… Where as now… It’s constantly available and you find virtually anything on the internet, back then… That wasn’t a possibility… Thanks so much for sharing this bit of your life with us, and thank you for bringing back memories for me, I appreciate it ^^
This movie is very inspirational. You’ve dedicated a lot of time to film. And you’re definitely right about having to have a love for it. Film making now has become so much easier with advancements in technology. I have a lot of respect for someone who puts as much effort as you have into creating film. Now I understand a little more about your movie reviews and where you’re coming from when you talk about other movies special effects. You know what its like to be behind the camera and trying to make the scene come out exactly how you want it to. I’m really happy that you posted this. I will be looking forward to everything you have planned for the future. Thanks for doing what you do.:)
I was really inspired by this video. Since I was 13, I’ve wanted to be a writer. It has a lot in common with making movies. And you don’t get paid to write until you are really good at it. This may take a life time. But it’s something you just have to do.
If I ever make as a writer, damn I want someone like James to direct a movie out of it. He has the true passion for his work.
Great little documentary, James. I see our parents bought the same Turtle sandbox. I think it’s great that ever since you were a child you know you wanted to make movies. I’ve felt the same way, but mine was music and writing. Keep up the great work James. Keep doing what you love and making indie films the way you do. Never sell out to Hollywood. Well maybe once,
wow james you love to make movies
I do the same thing, I started back in 2001 though.
