I’m with -RT, where the Genesis version of Batman. It had some decent level variations and was fairly faithful to Tim Burton’s film. It was certainly better than most of the games in this review.
That said, avgn’s shock at the button scheme of Batman Forever is one of my favorite nerd moments.

He does do Revenge of the Joker for the Sega Genesis in the 2nd part of the review. If there’s another Sega Genesis Batman game, it probably isn’t shitty enough for the review. After all, part of the lyrics in the AVGN them song is “to play the shitty games that suck ass”. xD

Batman is my all-time favorite superhero, and the film series are one of my all-time favorites, and it’s thanks to the Christopher Nolan films.
I love your new location, James, especially since this 2-parter episode. It’s like the Nerd Cave.
I’ve played some of the NES game, but I’ve only made it to the middle of the 2nd level. It I was gonna finish this game, I gotta be hard-core.
I wonder if Joel Schumacher help design the Batman Forever game. Also, what’s with the stock enemies? Doesn’t this game have Riddler and Two-Face? At least you saved yourself the insanity that is “Batman & Robin” for the PlayStation.
The good Batman games I’ve played from start to finish are Batman Begins, Justice League Heroes, and (shocker) Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Gaming enthusiasts actually made a hack for Batman for the NES that made it easier. Considering that almost every hack is designed to make the game harder, this says something about how hard (and cheap) the game is.
I love this episode for two reasons. First is the “Restart Game? Who the fuck is talking about restarting?” Second is the sheer angriness at the comically poor control scheme of Batman Forever.

Wow the Batman Forever Analysis on Snes brings me Back to an old debate. what is better Snes or Sega Genesis. My Cousin Had Snes I Had Genesis. Back in tho’s times it was great to have one or the other and have a close friend / relative have the other so you could see what you might be missing out on either system as Batman Forever is a key example of what People who only had access to Snes where missing out on. On genesis it was the same game but the controls weren’t all fucked up it was a Fun Game. But I remember my cousin who rented it on Snes was going through the exact same shit as AVGN In this episode So basically in conclusion Don’t base your opionion of Batman Forever only the Snes. Check it out on Genesis Of course the 6 button controller or Nomad is mandatory. It is a Fun game i remember playing it allot in my past. But on Snes The button set up dose almost ruin the entire experience.

One thing I noticed when watching through the videos from the beginning: you moved! Why wasn’t this acknowledged in the series? The nerd lair with wood paneling in the basement is 1,000,000 times more iconic than the dingy cramped apartment living room with the old radiator and the high plaster ceilings, although the apartment has its place in nostalgia to be sure. I also believe this is the FIRST video in the series to take place in the Nerd Lair. Great way to start, love Matei’s Joker!

As a child i remember renting Batman returns for the Sega Genesis… The controls were so bad and i was so lost at that first grappling hook part I litterally thought my game was defective and had my parents take me back to return it for another copy. When i realized the game was just bad i reluctantly went back to my other games because i could at least PLAY them. No select button on the sega controller… i wonder if it was just some weird button combo to use the hook…

Heh, I didn’t really thing Batman Forever was bat… ehrm, bad, just frustrating. The worst part, and I still remember this, is the special moves. You don’t talk about them, but they were awesome because of the arsenal of gadgets you could use. However, the button combinations in the manual weren’t right. I checked my box, there I still have a piece of paper with the button combinations that did work. I had to find out through trial and error! And those combinations are so elaborate, I didn’t use them a whole lot. Anyway, I still think the game is pretty fun once you get used to it, even though I never got past the brutal circus stage.

I totally know what James angers with Batman forever When I was younger I had the same exact problems within the first five mins…If I only would have known, I could have told the shop I rented from that I´m Batman….too bad the shop isnt around anymore…

BMF’s controls should go a bit more like this.
B: Jump
Y: Punch
Y: Grappling hook
A: Kick
L: Item
R: Weapon
Select: select item or weapon on the fly
Start: Menu
The combat would be better had it been combo based. That way its actually quicker and fun to have enemies that have large amounts of health.
Then again, they could have ported the Saturn arcade game to the SNES/GENS instead. At least they could make it like Returns, but with digitized graphics. It may not have all the graphical features side for the SNES being able to zoom and rotate objects and BGs, but it would be better than the current 16bit version.

I could not get past the part with the grappling hook.
Got there, would try for 20 minutes shooting the hook around, nothing.
