This is probably your most interesting Top 10 you’ve ever made! The Giant Claw FTW!
I wonder when are you going to talk more about the Gamera movies since you did Godzillathon? Hearing about these movies from you might get me interested the same way as the Godzilla movies!
I might’ve put the Medusa from “Clash of the Titans” over the Kraken, but that’s just me. I remember seeing that scene as a kid while my dad was watching it. It scared the hell out of me. I watched it all the way through for the first time last night, and it’s still scary!
Don’t bother with the remake, by the way. It’s just flat out bad.
Aaah…yes Reptilicus, remember watching that as a kid, too bad they removed the flying scene it’s epic. I actually think I have the VHS at my parents house with the flying scene and everything.
Nice work on the list, think I’ll tjeck out the Claw thingy
I think it’s kinda cool that Reptilicus is on the list when it’s a movie most people in Denmark have forgotten or I never here people mentioning it here, apart from movie lovers such as myself
I’m not a huge monster film fan but I liked the choice you made. I would’ve put the Tripods from War of the Worlds on there if they count.
I loved you number 1 pick, but do you really think that the Giant Claw is the best movie monster? Or are you just saying that for a joke. Either way, it’s pretty funny.
King Kong, Gamera, Godzilla…SISSIES!!!
There is only the Giant Claw!!!
have you seen the ’59 movie “Journey to the beginning of time” org. title “Cesta do praveku” it has some amazing special effects^^ this list reminded me of it
I CAN NOT BELIEVE that the Host is on James’s Top 10 Giant Monsters list. I mean it’s from one of my favorite Korean movies of all time, and as a Korean it’s just fucking awesome too see an American internet reviewer like James recognizing and appreciating it- and moreover putting it on his top 10 list of giant monsters?? Damn!!! I sure didn’t see that coming.
Godzilla is friggin awesome!:-D sometimes i wish that the people who do Gamera movies would do a Godzilla movie since Gamera movies seem more ‘adult’. GMK was done w/ some of the Gamera crew supposively.
u know james now that i look at it im really a lot like u except way younger im only 13 but i love the movies u watch love games and i want 2 make movies
My favorite line from “Gamera vs The Gyaos” was this japanese guys goes up to a girl and says “I want to take you on a Monster FREE Date!!!” My dad still brings up to today even though we both heard it like 15 years ago. I’ve tried to use the line on girls but it they don’t get it? Maybe because they dont watch monster movies or I’m trying it on the wrong girls. But still a classic line in trying to dub english with japanese movies Godzilla will always be my #1 Monster!!!!!
I loved all of your decisions on this list. I’ll admit that the Brontosaurus wasn’t intimidating to me, but it was a classic and it demolished chunks of an old city, so I can learn to love the big scaly boy.
Maybe I’ll buy the movie, after I get done acquiring the Castlevania series.
Godzilla is … just… uh… i dunno; it’s fucking awesome. No matter how much i read about it, i just can’t get it, and probably because of that is so damn fascinating, very much like Chokuzoka animes…!
I don’t see the Giant Claw being better than Godzilla or King Kong. Should it be on the list…absolutely, just not number one. That spot should of been reserved for either Godzilla or King Kong.
Fun fact: the flying scene was in the Danish version of Reptilicus but the American editors chose to remove it because it looked fake. They then added in the green slime and were pleased with how it looked.
James, you just blew my mind! I am Danish, as you may know, and I love this movie, and I love your work. Godmanit, I may be one of your biggest fans! This movie and the effects got so much critiscm and slack… but I believe it’s a true gem. I love the way you say “The only Danish movie…” like people would actually care. So you care about Danish film as well? That’s insane and awesome. Thank you so much. You should check some more Danish films out sometime. Some of the better ones perhaps
Oh, it was monster… but yeah, there’s not much fantasy or sci-fi or any speculative fiction coming out of our films, which is bullshit. Every time I ask someone about it, they say it’s ’cause our people don’t want to see this shit. They want to see “boring” dead-serious films about insane people and politics and boring shit like that. The only people enthusiastic enough about these kinds of films over here is the directors themselves, but they’re afraid the people don’t want to see it And now we’re finally perfecting CGI here… and our films are so much cheaper. Man, I wish we had our own Hollywood Anyway, it’s bullshit that we don’t want to see this stuff, because every time the big American blockbusters come to our country, we all go see it!

no jaws? well fuck. :S
April 13, 2010 at 8:35 pm
well Jaws was basically just a shark. While the movie is awesome (my favorite) the movie really isn’t about a shark.
April 20, 2010 at 8:23 pm
What’s the name of the movie monster at 0:14? That bird monster.
April 29, 2010 at 2:44 am
Ahhh… movie monster, classics xD, And The Giant Claw, good choice
The dumbiest but also the BEST monster movie ever 8D

Some i’ve never seen before and some i will always love.
Though two movies they should remake. The Giant Claw and Gamera, but they better not screw it up.
May 21, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I agree with the Kracken being on there, but I favor Talos most when it comes to Ray Harryhausen.

August 2, 2010 at 4:07 pm
It says on wikipedia that the danish Reptilicus could fly while the american would spit green slime.
I haven’t seen the movies so I don’t know.
August 7, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Has Cinemassacre’s wish finally come true? Will King Kong vs. Godzilla be remade?
Yes, it seems very possible.
LEGENDARY PICTURES owned by WARNER BROS. partial creators and majority owners of KING KONG is making a GODZILLA reboot. See the connection?
August 25, 2010 at 1:34 pm
hey james why don’t you make an entire list of top 10 monsters to appear in the godzilla series(maybe shorten the title)
August 29, 2010 at 12:52 am
You should have included Gorgo, England’s “answer” to Godzilla.
September 1, 2010 at 2:33 am

October 12, 2010 at 7:41 pm
the giant claw is bad ass
October 18, 2010 at 8:05 pm
I’d say Stay Puft marshmallow man is the king for me. But in a duel, Godzilla would own everhting.
October 28, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Quite a few people are going to give you hell for not putting Godzilla first…
November 5, 2010 at 11:52 pm
We have a turtle in my Ecology classroom. We are totally naming it Gamera.
November 25, 2010 at 11:07 am
The giant claw sounds like Ridley from Metroid (at least in zero mission and fusion)

#3?! Please. Godzilla would fuck up all of those monsters! (King Kong is awesome, but doesn’t count for this) #1 if not #2 for Kong.
December 4, 2012 at 10:21 pm
How about Gorgo (1961) it was the first giant monster movie before watching Godzilla…now I can’t find old VHS Godzilla movies their priceless for me.

I’d compare the Giant Claw to a giant monstrous vulture, big as a battleship!
