Although Scream gets a lot of shit, I really enjoy it. That doesn’t go for the sequels though, and yes, even though 4 isn’t out yet, it will be garbage.
I love all three of the Scream films. Not too sure how I feel about Scream 4 since Scream 3 pretty much ended it and ended it amazingly, but Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson(the writer of the screenplay for all three films) are suppose to return and David Arquette, Courteney Cox Arquette and even Neve Campbell are all reported to return, so it might be good, we’ll just have to wait for the trailers and then the actual film.
Scream in a funny way did bring back the slasher movie’s. We could have done without 2 and 3 tho. Still to this day it seems like everyone has a slasher movie.
I think Scream is an excellent movie for fans of the horror genre. While so many horror films treat the audience like fools expecting them to fall for the same clichés over and over, Scream was not only self-aware but also had a slew of inside jokes only real horror fans would get, like all the references to Wes Craven and John Carpenter, and Drew Barrymore commenting in the opening that “the first Nightmare On Elm Street was good but the rest sucked.”
It may not be the best movie Wes made, but it is definitely a treat.
Shame the writers of Scary Movie didn’t work out Scream was a parody and thought “this movie sucks. Let’s parody it!” Thank God Friedberg & Seltzer’s script was shitcanned, even though they used their vague association to Scary Movie to forge their entire fucking career.
I love Wes, but he’s the indirect cause of so much awful shit he lost control of, like the ‘[x] Movie’ series and Freddy’s Dead.
I didn’t think it was all that great, it’s ok last time I saw the movie was when I rented it on VHS back in ’97…..ahhh, the days of adolescence, where did they go???
I remember this movie series as the cause, of one of my good friends at the time, to realize his dream. From the moment he saw it, he realized he wanted to be a director. His first attempt at making a film was actually a home movie called Scream 4; which I had a part it (this was almost 7 years ago mind you). The last time I was at the movies, I saw a poster for Scream 4 and I just had to laugh. Peronally, I thought these movies sucked hard. The only part I actually like in the whole series, was when Jay and Silent Bob made a cameo in Scream 3.
This Movie Has My Vote As The Best Horror Movie. I Loved All Three Even Tho Alot Of People Hate The 3rd, I Actually Like It. Tho The First And Second Are The Best Outta The 3. Im Actually Really Excited For The 4th To Come Out, I Just Think They Should Let Sid Be. I Wouldve Gone Insane Or Killed Myself If It Happened Again. Let Her Have Some Peace Of Mind And Get Another Heroine But Still Make A Cameo
I was actually watching one of creeds music vids on youtube and it was a vid about scream i’m not sure if it relates to the other two but who knows it might be a sneak peak at scream 4 (i think)
I just watched this movie again for the first time in several years. I love all the little references in it, like the janitor who’s dressed like Freddy Krueger. Or there’s the line when Rose McGowan says “You’re sounding like some Wes Carpenter flick.” She combines the names John Carpenter with Wes Craven, and considering that Wes Craven is behind the wheel of this movie, that’s just hilarious. The way it uses music from Halloween while the characters are watching it as music for the movie itself is just awesome.
omg i remember when i was kid i got so scared i stayed in my room.
also i remember on haloween a guy had the same costume i nearly shite my pants. im still scared of him now. 80
I hate how James threw out that Scream was the reason why a generation knew that Jason’s mother was the original killer in Friday the 13th, because I was part of that generation and it’s so true. Haha I was just a lad then so gimme a break!
I would say Scream is more or less a parody of slasher films. Because it makes fun of all the horror movie cliches that were going on during the 70′s and 80′s.
FIX THESE ADS!!!!! I DONT CARE IF YOU SHOW ME FASHION SHOW ULTIMATE COLLECTION BY BRAVO A BILLION TIMES IM NOT WATCHING IT SO ITS WASTING MY TIME AND KILLING MY EXPERIENCE HERE
Scream was a landmark for the age it was made in, when cellular phones were becoming main stream and a killer could be making the calls in your own backyard. Scream made people get caller id, yes, just like other horror films made people think twice. Neve Campbell was fun to watch as our heroine and part three left me with an optimistic feeling, like as she’s walking toward her future, so can all of us.
Overrated or not, you can’t deny this film brought kids back into slashers and got them on all the classics. I remember how popular this film was on its release, and how it had like 5 different vhs covers My mom bought one of course!
I thought this film was okay, but I expected to hate it, so that’s a good thing for me.
The reason I didn’t like it was because when they revealed who the killer was, I never found it very believable that IT was a psychopath… I almost cracked at the point when IT sucked off the blood from ITS fingers! The acting didn’t help either.
But then again, it’s very hard to impress me with films. Regardless of genre.
(Note that I never revealed the killer’s sex, so NO SPOILERS THERE!)

This movie is extra scary for me because Ghostface is based off of the Gainesville Ripper and I live in Gainesville.
