I hate to admit it, but I’ve never really been a fan – I’m not sure why. I normally can’t get enough blood and gore (“Riki-Oh” has an acceptable amount), but there’s just something about this movie I don’t like. Maybe it’s the goofiness of it, but everytime I’ve seen it I was a little disappointed. I dunno. I’ve still got it on VHS – maybe I should give it another day in court.
I’ve always wanted to find a copy of this movie thats called braindead, dead alive is an odd name and for some reason that poster of the girl thats pulling her mouth open to reveal a monster just pissed me off, i have no clue why either
Oh god.. could not stop laughing! xD love Braindead due to that its so F-thing Sick & funny, favorite part is when they are goin to eat “vanilla” o.0 XD Eeew!
i saw this movie when i was 6. i was used to gore so it diddent shock me that much but i do remember the lawn mower part being crazy. love the refrence to that in l4d. i remember thinking a haunted house dealing with this movie would be cool. im not sure why i thought that. i never could stand haunted houses.
I must admit. The first time I saw this movie I was somewhere around 12 years old. Older sister was always bringing oldschool horrormovies back home to watch them and that’s how I saw most of the classics including this one. I still remember this one as a pure gorefest. I have never seen anything like that in my life. I really had to hold in my food the second time I saw it (a few years later) and there is still no other horrormovie which could be compared to this. All we get today are crappy, gore movies which could just be described as a thriller. Calling them horrors is just an insult for classics like this one.
This movie is hardcore like if Grand theft auto and mortal kombat had a kid that was a murder and a rapest who took a bath in blood every time he shit him self…….damn im sorry that was WAY too much!
“Pahtiez Ova”. This film is GOD!! The lawn mower scene is the shit! I also LOVE when that bithc screams in front of that door, and the zombie puches right through her mouth.
“I Kick ahss for the lawd” LOL! Really fucking gory. Lucio Fulci made some pretty fucking gory films in the early 80s like “The Beyond” (1981).
Don’t know which one is more gory, but the effects in “Dead Alive” (that’s the title I know it as) are much better
Fantastic movie more entertaining than all LOTR movies combined. For Aesthetics class in college we needed to bring in one example of horror and one example of comedy. I showed the final massacre of all the people at the house party. Brain Dead did both comedy and horror but i resisted showing it twice. For humor i showed Cartman’s version of the Aristocrats joke. The reactions were priceless.
WATCH IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i remember watching this the first time. I bought it and i sat alone in my room laughing so hard that i couldn’t stop… then a day after that i said to all my friends have you ever seen brain dead everyone responding NO so we watched my oh my their were laughs all the time mostly during the baby killing scene in the park
i’m from new zealand, my brothers used to always watch this movie when i was younger and i thought it was horrible. Now that i’m older i think its hilarious!
Amazing movie, i remember watching it as a kid and loving it. Boy was i suprised when i saw his name attached to Lord. And i just watched the South Park Aristocrat Joke, omg, hilarious.
Netflix titles it as Dead Alive and so does wikipedia for Jackson’s films. This film is great on laughs and I can’t eat during the last half! Or…well, the whole thing I watched it on all days, christmas morning last year and had a good laugh throughout it.
Pretty much my favorite movie of all time. it IS my favorite Horror movie of all time however… its so fucking amazing, its like mortal kombat in movie form (but you know, gory like it should be)
I agree. I think this tops with the original Silent Dracula. That will scare the bleedin shit for the being the creepest movie in existance and this one is an absolute masterpiece in terms of core, i love it. I original watched the American version and it called Dead Alive, not called Brain Dead in England. Actually being called Dead Alive confused me at the time because i saw it as Brain Dead first.
Yes the best live, I Kick Arse for the lord, brillant. And i also agree on it being better than the Lord of the Rings combined. Jackson should do a core version, lol
HOLY SHIT I GOTTA SEE THIS FILM!!!! AND PETER JACKSON MADE THIS!!!!! I knew there had to be a sick fuck in there. You had to be mentally fucked some how to make a 10 hour movie of people walking.
Ok, no i retire what said before, i don’t see why you didn’t review here The Thing, the “modern” one.
Well sure i gotta see still a lot of productions on this site.
OH DEAR GOD! WTF WAS THAT!? The blood, gore and violence you showed was so intense, that I almost threw out my lunch! And you didn’t even mentioned the plot (is there any in this gore feast?). If there comes the day I want to not be able to sleep for 1 week, now I know which film to watch.

Man oh man! What did I just saw? Seriously, this might be the granddaddy of all gory horror films!

May 27, 2010 at 2:58 am
i dont like how you dont describe the story, only the gore =(
May 28, 2010 at 5:40 pm
@bombid
That’s because you don’t care about the story half-way through the movie, the gore steals the show.
June 7, 2010 at 10:28 pm

July 22, 2010 at 5:09 am
There were a lot of quotes from this movie that made me laugh
“Some of my best friends are pedophiles!”
“I kick ass for the lord!”
“It’s NECROPHILIAC you fucking asshole!”
and the New Zealand just make them even funnier!
July 30, 2010 at 12:44 pm
lol….i take it more as comedy than a horror movie.

Shame that you reviewed this instead of Bad Taste (1987). Braindead is gorier, yes, but Bad Taste has it’s unique, creepy atmosphere.
