I did see the original on TV once but hadn’t saw the sequels! I’m just going to rent the remake for the way it is. One thing I’m sure people would be most anticipated about the remake is Jackie Earl Haley’s portrayal of Freddy. After his great performance as Rorschach in Watchmen, it looks like he might turn in an equally great performance in the upcoming remake!
I’ve seen all the Nightmare on Elm street movies and well most of them are pretty good. The first one will always be my favorite. Freddies dead…to me that was more of a comedy but the others were ok. As for the remake, again it looks good but I don’t want to hold my breathe. To me no one will ever be able to replace Robert England as Freddy Krueger. But as for Jackie Earl Haley, I won’t say anything till I watch the movie and see how he does.
I frown on remakes in general and with Nightmare being my favorite slasher series just thinking of seeing the new one is painful. There is a pretty straight forward formula for deciding whether to watch the remake or not for us Freddy fans, and it goes like this: No Robert Englund = No Watch.
I love all the Nightmare films from the original classic all the way to Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, I also saw Freddy vs Jason. Freddy Krueger is one of my favorite horror movie villains, he’s just bad ass in ever single way and Robert Englund brought the character to life amazingly in every single film, he is and forever will be Freddy. Today it seems that every classic movie, to me it seems mostly classic horror movies, is getting remade and so far what I’ve seen I have liked, for the horror remakes anyways. I enjoyed Rob Zombie’s Halloween( only saw the original John Carpenter Halloween and what I’ve heard from reviews the other Halloween films are nothing that great), I also enjoyed the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre(shame on me for never seeing the original) and the 2009 Friday the 13th. I plan on going to see the Nightmare on Elm Street remake(with an open mind), I’m not looking for this movie to replace the 1984 classic or it’s many sequels(which I love to death) and am most certainly not looking for Jackie Earle Haley(amazing as Rorschach in Watchmen) to replace Mr.Robert Englund as Freddy, I’m going to see a new spin on a beloved classic and to really see how Jackie Earle Haley’s performance compares to the dream master himself Robert Englund(even if Jackie Earle Haley’s performance is amazing Robert Englund will always be Freddy to me)and I think that’s how we(as Nightmare fans) should go see this movie.
Robert Englund=Freddy The new guy=wannabeeeee. I will wait for the new Nightmare on DVD but will not give it the gratification of going to see it in the theaters.
A nightmare on elm street had a very good story. Also had a very good slasher. Freddy is a icon in horror. He always will be. I own all the movie’s. Going to buy the doc that just came out. I am going to rent the remake when it come’s out.
Wait just one fucking second! I haven’t seen any of the movies yet, was he ACTUALLY using a damn Power Glove? XD The comedy mixed with horror makes me really want to find these movies and record them on my TV.
funny fact:wes craven had spent around 2,000 for a collapsable bed a snow blower and about 100 gallons of fake blood for the special scene in nightmare 1 when johnny depp getts eaten by his bed, however the fans most loved scene was the cheap 25 dollar tongue glued to the phone when freddy says “im your boyfriend now nancy” that is funny and goes to show you dont have to spend alot for people to love that scene
You said Jason has been to hell, and he fought Freddy Kruger.Well,as far to knowledge,Jason and Freddy were in literally in hell when they fought in Freddy VS Jason.
Hey James,
I’m a fan of movies and like what you have to say about them, but i was wondering if you could do a review of the 2010 remake of A Nighmare On Elm Street. I don’t know if you like it or not but i just want an your view of the movie.
I snuck into the movie theater, with my two cousins, to see this film. I was 8 years old back in 1984, and this was one of the scariest fucking films I’ve ever seen.
I LOVE this film. So original, so amazing. Craven is GOD! He’s made some of the GREATEST horror films ever “Last House on the Left” (1972), “The Hills Have Eyes” (1977), “Deadly Blessing” (1981) etc etc etc.
Two things I remember Robert Englund for, besides NOES is “Eaten Alive” (1977) (directed by Tobe Hooper) and “V” (1983) The miniseries and the TV series. Thought he was great in both
and James screwed up on the order he did the reviews, he did this before the evil dead review but this franchise did not come out till 84′ where evil dead was released in 81′
Freddy is my 3rd favorite boogyman with michal being 2nd and jason being the 1st, but ever since i got with my wife 8 and a half years ago, my freddy watching days have deminished. she hates him, and she really hates him at night. and i only like watching him at night. she hates what he stands for, and that is a child molester and murderer. so i can sertainly understand her hate, but dam hes just a fake charector in a movie. jeezzz. so, for to not hear her bitch, i dont get to watch him much anymore. Oh marriage sucks sometimes.
Haley did a good job, the cool thing is that Robert Englund hand picked him from over 40 tryouts from other actors. So you can’t really complain about it.

As far as the sequels go, I hated part 2. Part 3 I thought was kind of fun; parts 4 and 5 were okay, but nothing memorable. I never saw New Nightmare.

Not being a hardcore fan of the original, I hated the remake. In fact, it pissed me off.
Anyways, we would like to know your thoughts on it, James!
