I have the Alien Anthology on DVD! I’m surprised you haven’t talked about James Cameron’s 1986 sequel Aliens yet. But hopefully we might expect a review of it sometime soon!

Alien is my personal favorite combination of Sci-Fi and Horror. The Alien universe is so rich and has been satisfying in both comics and novels. Did you know that Dark Horse comics had originally made their Aliens comics a sequel to the movie Aliens before Alien 3 came out? However, do to continuity issues once Alien 3 hit the scene, the characters of Newt and Hicks we renamed. However, the comics remain an interesting idea of what could have happened after the events in Aliens.

The really cool part is that according to rumor, in the scene where the alien bursts out of John Hurt, John Hurt himself was the only member of the the cast who knew what was going to happen. Assuming that’s true, the rest of the cast weren’t really acting; they were really that freaked out!

I’ll always remember this movie as one of the first horror movies I ever saw,my babysitter put it on when I was like 7 years old and freak the shit out of me,the scene where the alien burst out of the guys chest will likely stay with me for the rest of my life.

I saw this review before i saw the movie on AMC, and the part were the alien comes out of no where and kills that dude still startled me. This movie is a classic, along with it’s sequel, but the aliens 3 and alien reserection or whatever it was called, didn’t pull me in like the first two.

Fan of the alien genre, and this movie will never be forgotten.
    NOOOOOO REMAAAAAAKE!!!!!!!!!!

Ultimate Haunted House Story!!!! Only this haunted house is a gigantic space tanker adrift in space and there is only so far you could go to try and hide but sooner or later the alien will find you.

One of my favourite movies ever, best in the Alien series. I wished you’d talked more about the actual creature and the seuqels and stuff, a little bit disappointed, but all in all, pretty good.

@ Ice Head: That’s not entirely true. The cast had read the script and knew more or less what was gonna happen. What they weren’t prepared for though, was how effective his acting was and how bloody it was going to be.

Comparing this and “Aliens” is pointless, since the first film is a sci-fi-thriller and the second is an action movie.

You don’t watch the first film for the action!

Rumors are being spread that a prequel to alien might come out and another AVP film but this one will take place in space and it was going to be released in 2011 or 2012 but it got plugged by fox cause the directors of AVPR wanted it to be in space but fox thought they were taking a risk of putting actors in space seriously what was fox thinking it wasn’t gonna take place in real life space otherwise that would be dangerous and endangering innocent actors plus it would look like crap but i am looking forward to ALIEN 5 and PREDATORS 3 if ALIEN 5 does make it to a theatre and it would be directed by ridley scott but for the love of god if its not a prequel and is a sequel… PUT THE KING ALIEN IN IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This film is fucking AMAZING! Another film that uses the setting and atmosphere to it’s advantage, and it works perfectly!

    God I love this shit!

I, actually, own a film called “Inseminoid” AKA “Horror Planet” (1982) which is a, really, cheesy, British rip off of Alien. That film sucks, but dammit, I love it anyway.

  • October 13, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Thanks for adding this one up, James. I didn’t know you did this one till you posted it up with the rest of your past reviews. I enjoy the three alien movies, and many people believe Metroid was inspired by the films.

I really love the sound design in Alien, too. Nothing else sounds quite like it. Absolutely amazing movie and unquestionably the beginning of Ridley Scott’s three great films, the other two being Blade Runner and Legend, IMO.

Firtst Dead Space did pay a great homage to this film, in a more than respectful way, and up to date, is the only game i can consider to be an all-around survival horror nowadays.

as most of you should no we never see Dallas death, all you see is the alien then hes cut of and i was telling this to my Dad and saying that maybe he did’nt die. Well my Dad showed me a deleted scene and it turns out him and brett did’ny die! the xenomorph cocooned them and Ripley finds them as shes excaping but Dallas says is “kill me” and she flame throwers them. i thought that was pretty cool

Awesome episode, I love the alien movies. Check out my favorite movies, if you have the time Stan Movie Nelson on Twitter

This is one of my most personal favourites. I was so excited when the director’s cut came to the theaters, my chance to see it on the big screen. I’ve always liked how the film is so… well, minimalist in reality. From the seemingly generic title to the fact that sometimes the film is scariest when little happens. It’s one of the few films that really understood how to blend more traditional visual horror with psychological horror, and the art design, sound design, etc. are amazing. Aliens is also a majour achievement, but I lie in the camp that still prefers the original film. I dunno, that’s just how I feel. Though Aliens is still one of the best, especially in actually being smart – its so damn rare to see an action movie that pays so much attention to detail to its weapons, technology, etc. But this one is the ultimate classic to me though I <3 both. I'll also admit Alien Resurrection is a guilty pleasure, its an awful movie but its fun.

This movie is one of the greats. A scary movie in it’s truest form. It’s got suspenses, jump scares, disturbing moments, and an unstoppable monster. Oh and their in fucking space! Sigourney weaver is badass!
