i saw the commercial when i was a kid ‘and it doesnt work on colecovision’ yeah but coleco were smart enough to realize that the 5200 was going to be a complete failure.
Ok I laughed more for that than anything else so far. Makes me want to break out my Atari 400, I’d break out the 800 but that lost its power cord years ago, funny thing is the power cord was hard wired into the system.
yes, it’s one of the funniest reviews
because humour here represents the real everyday problems, that we use to have, while tried to play out shitty consoles with shitty controllers. ehhh… nostalgia ^_^
I liked the use of Blaster Master and Donkey Kong country music.I also liked the way you kept hurting your self, but the highlight of the episode is where you bought this other controller and you realize it won’t fit and then you yell FUCK!!!!!
Even though I never noticed it until now, at 9:58, next to the controller name or whatever, it say’s “works fucking better”, It couldn’t even properly fit into the damn fatass beast, Those greedy, assblowing, anal sucking, dick slapping, cockamamie, butt fucking, cow humping transvestites.
When I first saw this video (like all Nerd vids) I laughed my ass off and I laughed more when I noticed when you were trying to hook up the TV there was a back to the future refrence sorta and I had to pause the movie until I could catch my breath (and the same thing happened on Dracula on “Fred Fuchs”)
Love this review, one of my personal favorites along with many of the other console reviews. One thing I’ve always wondered is if the trackball controller really doesn’t work, or if James simply added that part for comedic value. The only reason I ask is that after repeated views, I noticed during the segment right after James says “does it work, well does it?” and it cuts to footage of the breakout paddle fidgeting back and forth, you can hear in the background what sort of sounds like someone rocking the trackball back and forth to “create” that fidgety movement. the sound even stops for a brief second when the paddle stops on screen. If I’m wrong, please correct me. If not, I think its kind of cool to catch something behind the scenes like that. Great review James! keep it up.
You say no one remembers the system and it faded away but for a lot of
us this was the system we had in our child hood and don’t remember the 2600. You did not review any of the games, 1 important aspect of the 5200 that made it special was it was the first home consol that allowed you to play arcade games. The games did not look quite as good as the arcade counter parts however the game play was identical. Joust, Mario Brothers, Poll Position, Pacman, Froger, Centapide, Pi Pi The Sailor Man and many many more were all there and they played just like the arcade. It even had some games epic for it’s time like Pitfall 2 and Montezuma’s Revenge. Infact there were not to may games out of it’s library that would be considered unfinished crap, most would hold up even today. I think you need to to another review on this system you did not due it justice. It is just too bad the joysticks were pieces of crap that brook after a month of play. however when they did work I don’t recall them being hard to use or awkward in your hand.
I like how much patience he shows in this video, and the fact that you can’t play the games so might as well look at them..looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
Could you please do a followup to this video? No games were played. I know it’s about the system, but it was all about how none of the controllers worked. More on the 5200 and its games.. please.
wow first to comment, nice:)

i love that tune
but i hated the 5200 it was shit
“On an old piece of shit like that” That’s the happiest I’ve ever seen the nerd.
Great review…I think my favorite part was hearing the Metroid ‘get’ music at the very end. You rock James!
This is my favourite Nerd video. Apart from maybe TMNT III, or even James and Mike playing the Odyssey.

This is my favorite episode on a console because of how truely awfull of a mess the Atari 5200 really is.
Love the Back to the Future refference. =)
I agree with the end label thing, because I like to be VERY organized.
I love your reaction to the track-ball controller. Very AVGN.

Atari 5200 had MArio? WTF? And they say it’s from them, when it’s originally from Nintendo… What were they thinking!?
I love James so much! I would love to fill his game slot with my river raid!
one of my favourites =)

Hey James,
Could you please do a followup to this video? No games were played. I know it’s about the system, but it was all about how none of the controllers worked. More on the 5200 and its games.. please.
Thanks!!!
I love that he could fit a whole beer bottle in there. What were they THINKING?
Oh, and I’ve been waiting for him to review the 7200 for a time now, I hope he does it!
Nice B2TF reference. Damn, damn!
