Lolz. That Movie… One Of My Favorite Movies Of All Time. Great Job Doin’ Freddy James.

You Should Make A Remake Of This Episode Where You Get Put In The Game And Freddy Is Playing As You With The Power Glove.

Even though the game is tripe theres something nice about playing it alone at like 2am with the lights off, same goes for friday the 13th. The games suck but theres that nostalgic feeling to them.

    Great vid btw

I love these follow-up episodes. Always keep you interesting on what’s gonna happen next.

3:00- Yeah. In thw words of Linkara, “I AM A MAN!” PUNCH!

Elm St. Cemetary? Elm St. High? Don’t they mean Springwood?

You did an excellent job of the Freddy voice, James. When I first saw this episode, I imagine you actually hired Robert Englund to provide the voice.

Man, that diareea crap looks so real.

What I find funny about the Power Glove moment is that Freddy used his own version of the glove in one scene of “Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare.”

  • nomad175

    November 27, 2010 at 9:30 pm

Didn’t Freddy use the power glove to kill someone? Also, I think that they could make a good Freddy game out of this video. Or at least, a better one than the one you had to play.

  • December 2, 2010 at 9:59 am

Dude, seriously, I love the way you shot this video, especially the part near the end where “Freddy” is stalking you. It actually creeped me out the first time I watched it!! One of my faves from the Nerd (and I’ve watched them all), A+

  • Rasengan999

    December 12, 2010 at 8:03 pm

This was the first AVGN I ever saw. Even from just a few years ago, this video already feels nostalgic to me. To think that this one video actually changed my life. Let’s count off the things it did: 1. Gave me months worth of entertainment after I watched every other AVGN. 2. Gave me even MORE entertainment as it led me to watch the Nostalgia Critic after watching him fight the Nerd. 3. Gave me, yet again, more entertainment as I watch the dozens of others on TGWTG. (Now the real stuff) 4. Inspired me to create my own video series. Dang I wish I was still doing that. I had to…shut it down. 5. Opened me to the world of cinema as James, a man following his dream to make and love of movies, caused me to became a total movie-buff. and 6. James D. Rolfe, this man of awesome, followed his dreams and did what he loved. To see what a success it has made him, gives me, as should all of us, a sense that if we follow our dreams, we can accomplish great feats.

James, you are a great person. Your dream has sparked a dream in me. I am not yet sure what that dream is, but at the moment, I possibly dream to either act in, or create movies. But I am young, an in time, I fear, this dream may change. But no matter what I end up doing, just know: James Rolfe, you will always hold a special place in my heart, as an inspiring role model, and as a great man.

I…um…I’m sorry if I was a little preachy there….Once I start typing, I just can’t stop. Oh and you might think: “One of your role models if a F-Bombing, Diarrhea-Dumping Nerd who rants on about old games?” No, one of my role models is James Rolfe, not the AVGN. My role model is the man who followed his dream, and is living it out.

James, go for it, you will one day, make that feature film, and be the next Steven Spielberg.

The only thing that sucks more than this game is the films it’s based on (except the first and the third).

A Nightmare On Elm Street is the crown jewel of horror movies, so I wanted to like this game, but really it’s another massive turd from the rainbow of ass.

This is an amazing review & James covers everything you need to know about the game, except one thing. He mentions that if you collect a “dream token”, you can change into a acrobat who throws javelins and jumps farther. But, you can also find tokens for a shuriken throwing/drop-kicking ninja & a magic throwing wizard.

The real nightmare would be playing this with three other people. Are there more bones to find? Y’know it’d be tough keeping track of who’s who…(two guys & two girls who wear red & blue respectively). And I bet there be lots of falling to your death because the screen would stop scrolling.

  • May 20, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Can I just say: it’s incredibly odd to hear the original song with “nintendo nerd” instead of “video game nerd.”

It seems like some kind of alternate universe now.

  • May 20, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Also, “this game’s horrible” while the Nerd is asleep is one of my favorite lines in an AVGN episode. Mostly because of how it is delivered.

This is going to be long, It’s two rants in one, but if you love James it’s definitely worth reading. If you don’t have the time though If you look for the part that has “=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-” (search for it on the page with ctrl-f, without the quotes) you can find the part that’s specifically about this episode, his directing, and the AVGMovie (As I like to call it.)

    Begin:

I’ve went on long rants before to counter peoples common “the new episodes suck, the old ones are better” arguments before. Namely that it’s not true and that he’s been doing episodes for so long that it’s a case of remembering all the parts you loved, through nostalgia, and the parts you didn’t like being forgotten or not critiqued so much in comparison. This is a natural thing that happens with nostalgia and it’s the main reason we remember our first consoles so warmly.

It’s also equally notable that the majority of people who think his old episodes are better are typically kids (not teens or older) who didn’t grow up with the NES or these systems. You see, the reason I love James, and a lot of people do (besides him being such a seemingly likeable and approachable guy) is that while he threw in humor, he critiqued the games in a way that most people weren’t. This is what EVERY ‘clone’ of AVGN does wrong. They think that the reason he is popular is because of his cursing and general ‘potty mouth.’ While this has to be some percentage of it (a greater percentage of the reason that younger people like him surely) it doesn’t account for what made/makes this show so great. Realisitcally, it’s also partially the fact that he was the ‘first’ to do a show like this. .. But that’s still not it. No, it’s because he CRITIQUED the games an DISCUSSED THEIR FLAWS. SOME of the clones get this. I must say, that other shitty show, the Irate Gamer, which I’m not even sure is still around, got this. Even they still got it wrong though by thinking that the cursing was the important part. What they did was pick out anything that annoyed them in the game and ‘ripped it to shreds.’ That’s in quotes because they mostly ended up just sounding stupid.

You see, he didn’t just bitch about things that annoyed him. He bitched about legitemately bad design. A game that you suck at will annoy you, that doesn’t mean it sucks though. James has the ability that we almost ALL have to realize the difference. Clone shows either seem to miss that THIS is what makes James so great or aren’t honest with themselves that they suck and that it’s not the games fault.

I said I wouldn’t go over what I just did but some people may have not read it before.

    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I was watching the fan art montage that came out today (2/6/12) and saw the little story board someone made with part of the final scenes from the Nghtmare on Elm Street episode. I went ahead and watched it again (first time in ages, although I’ve seen it multiple times) and noticed something.

When James has talked about the AVGN Movie he always says good episodes to watch to get an idea of a more cinematic episode would be the Nintendo World Cup episode or the Rob the Robot one.

ANYWAY, BACK TO THIS EPISODE IN PARTICULAR. While I love horror movies from this era, particularly the first Nightmare on Elm Street (and Wes Craven’s A New Nightmare) I must say, the content in this isn’t my favorite. It just wouldn’t be an episode I would be super excited to see. I had never rented the game as kid or anything. This is a FANTASTIC episode though. If you are comparing it just to his other AVGN episodes, THIS would be THE underrated, underappriciated episode.

JAMES HAS THE BEST COMEDIC TIMING HE’S EVER HAD IN THIS VIDEO. I don’t tppically think of him as having great comidic timing, and I think he would agree. The ‘potty mouth’ that everyone loves is actually really silly and corny. The comedic timing I’m talking about here is purely during the final segment starting at 9:25 where he clones himself. EVERYTHING after this easily the best montage he’s ever done. The corny 80′s style camera work is PERFECT. It’s EXACTLY like these old slasher flicks from the 80′s. The cues it takes from them are also great, such as the Nerd freddy popping up in the closet. But comedic timing.. We’ve got the epic “EMPTY YOUR ASS ALL OVER IT!”, the “I don’t gotta take a shit, whos gotta take a shit?” clone converstion. It’s all executed PERFECTLY. The timing of the lines and subtle pauses COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MORE PERFECT. Even the tiny moments that would go by unrecognized such as the way he says “closet” during the “front door, closet.. front door….. closet” scene are perfect. It even ends with the preview/foreshadowing for the next episode about the Power Glove so if you aren’t watching this now, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Watch it now!

Ugh, so tired of how LiveFyre changes your comment, and then also SOMETIMES won’t let you delete it. It looks deleted to me.. when i refresh it’s gone. When I clear all data, cachh etc, it’ gone. Use another browser? Yeah, it’s still there. I’m really trying not to be annoying about my comment here but I can’t get it posted correctly!

@Lanlost I saw the full comment. I agree with everything. Clearly one of the best episodes.. The reason I found AVGN was because I saw a picture of a Power glove and wanted to find out more. I saw his episode about it and have been watching AVGN ever since, so to see the glove at the end of this was hilarious, especially being matched up to Freddy’s glove, considering I’ve always been a Freddy fan. but anyway, James it particularly funny in this episode and what you said does him justice. PEACE!

IMO, this is one of the FEW games the nerd is wrong about. The cookie cutter ghosts, I’ll give him. But the doors part is simply… You hold up, instead of tapping. And freddy himself is a little kooky sometimes, but back then, he scared the shit out of me when I was younger.

      Few?
There are a lot of games he bitches about cos he does not play them right.
See his infamous Jekyll & Hyde reviews and his play with Mike. Even after all these years, he still does not grasp how the game works.
A game being good or bad is subjective, but when you do not play them right, making them look worse then they actually are is a different matter.

Also, the plot of Simons quest is that Simon is cursed, and in order to un-curse himself, he tried to kill Dracula again, however it didn’t work. >_>

I think i’ll give this game another chance. The single melody is quite catchy and gets me on a NES mood, no matter how shitty the game is.

The guy is tough, but not as tough as the guy from Nosferatu. That guy goes the entire game beating done monsters with his fists including werewolves and gargoyles!

When I heard about a Nightmare game as a kid, I was told that you would be Freddy Krueger and you would go around killing people. Now that would have been different. Instead, we get a platform game with a pointless four player mode.

    • June 29, 2014 at 8:08 pm

I know right, what the fuck was up with that… they were being sadistic cunts and i fucking hate them for that

  • June 29, 2014 at 8:07 pm

Freddy’s face on the cover is like “who the fuck farted!”
