Episode notes by Mike:
- In Episode 11 the Nerd reviews Double Dragon 3 (NES)
Funny Quotes:
Now, just like the one-player game, it starts off with the story sequence, but this time it shows both the Double Dragons, Billy and Jimmy Lee. Oh, wait… Bimmy and Jimmy? How’d they make a mistake like this!? Bimmy isn’t even a real name!

BIMMY & JIMMY???
Quite possibly the greatest misspelling in video game history!

Dude you really need to bring the anger back into your reviews. Its so hilarious the way you get all pissed off in these old ones. The newer episodes there just isn’t much anger, and too much production. Get pissed off like at the end of this episode, its great.

Double Dragon 3 is like the Ninja Turtles 3 of the NES library.
The Bimmy part of this episode is mentioned on UrbanDictionary.com. Thank God for spell-chack these days.

The makers of this game gave us a spinning dropkick over a pit. That last level you showed there is as far as I ever gotten in that piece of shit of a game!

In the musical comedy “On the Town” from 1949, there is an amusement park that has a variete(or something) called “RAJAH*BIMMY’S” (roughly at 1h:24m in the film)
November 16, 2011 at 11:29 am
This game actually looks a lot better on the Amiga and is fairly good. But even on the Amiga the spin kick doesn’t work sometimes… What the fuck!?

Double Dragon 3 for Genesis is much better. …. well not that much better. You at least get lots of lives and is a little bit entertaining since you don’t have to concentrate.

I’m calling my first born son Bimmy.

I can understand people who don’t like this game. It really has a crazy difficulty. I always loved to play it as a kid. I always looked at it as the “ultimate Double Dragon challenge”. And it has an awesome cover too. Never liked the Game Boy/SEGA Genesis version though. James should review those some time.

I remember beating this game, It was tough, But i was a double dragon guru back then. I could beat both 1 and 2 in the arcade on 1 quarter. Chin did have one use, his claw weapon hits ridiculously hard, I’d usually switch to him to kill bosses outright with it, cause believe it or not, chin with the claw equiped could kill bosses in 2-3 hits. that’s how good it was. most of the time i’d use the ninja when i finally earned him. But yeah, the game is hard. But it only took me about a couple of days to beat it.

I Honestly believe this is when the AVGN Started to get some real attention. I’ve been with him through the years. I’ve seen almost all his videos and watched his first video a few days after it aired on YouTube. Although I didn’t think it was much when I first saw it, I continued to watch his videos and this is where i think he got the attention he deserved.

Is this what you call a DIE HARD game?
February 8, 2012 at 1:26 pm
James, I really think you outta revisit this one when you get a chance, like you did with TMNT, DJMH and WFRR. This doesn’t feel like a full review…it’s still good, just short. Plus you left out a lot of levels.

one of my favorites with the castlevania series review Bimmy and Jimmy hahahaha get me everytime
April 9, 2012 at 8:54 am
The way he lingers on the Bimmy thing makes it so much funnier. The outbursts are great, sure, but the steaming passive aggression is where the Nerd really shines in my opinion.

possibly the shortest AVGN video ever

I DID IT!!! I BEAT DOUBLE DRAGON 3 WITH NO CHEATS AND NO EMULATORS!!! WHOOOOOOOHHHHH!!!!
AWESOME GAME!!! DOUBLE DRAGON 3 ROCKS!!!

Sadly, Bimmy is a real name, atleast it will be soon. The popular chick at our highschool just recently posted on FBook that she’s pregnant, and they’re naming the kid Bimmy! Even though I’ve literally never spoken to this chick, I had to ask if it was because of Double Dragon 3, she was clueless of the game and the guy denied it, but I think he might secretly be a total nerd…
November 11, 2012 at 12:09 am
hey James you should do a video on the Double Dragon movie it was a bigger piece of shit than that game and believe that movie loosely base on that game but atleast in the movie they did get the names right lol
December 23, 2012 at 6:47 pm
I used to destroy this game back in the day. Yeah, it’s harder than parts one and two, but it’s shorter. I want to sit down with James and show him how to play this game.
Jumping with Chin is a bad idea. The guy is a hand-to-hand buzzsaw, and on a dare, I beat the last three levels (Japan, Italy, Egypt) using nothing but his punches. It’s easy to keep both enemies on one side of you, too.
The Bimmy typo is inexcusable, though.
January 8, 2013 at 10:54 pm
The only other time I’ve heard the phrase “You’re brown bread” was the death screen in “Grand Theft Auto: London 1969″. Cool phrase.
January 10, 2013 at 3:17 pm
I can totally understand the AVGN’s frustration. Back in the day I also played Double Dragon 1 and 2 on the NES and I was actually pretty good at them and then came this…. :-/ I think I was hardly ever that pissed about a game when I first tried to play it. But the difficulty increase from part 2 to part 3 was just over the top. At least it wasn’t as horrible as the DD3 on Game Boy.
January 16, 2013 at 8:12 pm
What’s with this game? The PC and Sega Mega-drive/Genesis games are completely different to this!
February 15, 2013 at 11:14 pm
James should totally name his upcoming son Bimmy. That would be the most awesomely awesome awesome that ever awesomed.
