i actually had this game for a few years growing up and i always got stumped wen it was time to crouch with the red crystal. im not sure if i could have guessed that on my own. i will say that it is pathetic how the water is the worst threat in the whole game. there’s nothing else in the that can kill u with one hit except the water. anyone c the problem here?
For a first AVGN it’s really good even though we can’t see your face. I remember playing Castlevania 2 when I was younger and holy shit was it confusing. I don’t even think I got past the first dungeon and just the main progression was like a whole secret with the damn wall and holy water. Kinda funny though. Once you beat the game once though it’s really easy to beat it a second time around. lol
@ JT84 Yeah, he was skinny. He gained a fair amount a weight. THat’s a good thing, as his voice changed a little bit from Dr. jekyll and Mr. Hyde to now and the added weight just suits him better.
“This game sucks.” Perfect line to begin one of the greatest internet series of all time.
Simon’s Quest actually got some praise for other people like X-Play on G4. But don’t get me wrong, James. I understand how frustraiting the game is for gamers like yourself; like the day-to-night deally, the criptic ways to advance to the next level, the graphics (mostly of Dracula), and how easy it is to end the game.
I also hate the water hazards. It’s like the designers of these games think that water is like acid or lava. At least in games like today, we have the character come out of the water with little to no damage.
I started playing Castlevania after I saw your video.I almost finished the Castlevania 1, but the final boss the dracula is verry tough and I can’t go through it. Then I started playing Castlevania 2 Simons Quest and I agree with your comments, but some of the things in this game is verry hard but not Impossible like the part when simon should bend down holding the red crystal at the clif that advice is given by some villager and you mentioned that some of the rooms in the town are empty but some have secret path beneth the floor.
After watching the game played in person…I have to agree with you…this game may be a Classic, but the Day to Night Transitions are awful!! And that game…it just needed some more time. If the game designers had more time, maybe the game wouldn’t have sucked so hard….
This is the reason I found the Nerd. I had been living in Japan for like 3 years, and I was bored as shit one day, but feeling very nostalgic and wanting to play/see video games so i just thought of a game I liked, and typed it in on youtube, and up came this video,… … and i just started to follow from there….. been a fan ever since..
This is a first AVGN (a not so-AVGN because they don’t called it before) You can’t see his face
He’s a lot more calm in this old one
Pretty cool for a first episode.
simons quest? simons shit!
“And the ending sucks too” Gotta love this first episode, the one video that started the madness that is the AVGN! Great work James
someone should label and put them in a alphabetical order
I Remember when this first came out…. You don’t seem too mad in the first one

James you look incredibly skinny in this one. I used to be that skinny back when I was 20.

From humble beginnings….
I liked this game. There, I said it.
It’s good to see where it all began.
I played this game once… fucking hard and totally not worth it! It’s nothing like Castlevania should be!!!
its funny how he said THIS game blows his mind of how bad it is after seeing games like dr jekyll and mr hyde and superman 64 and stuff.

A classic nerd episode, its funny how far the character has come throughout the series.
