I actually bought Simon's Quest on the Virtual Console.

Love this old videos that according to me are more analytic and more of a serius, and "helpful" review than just a newer video in 5 minutes of angry words that actually doesnt tell that much about the game anyway. But this video does, and its great!

I recall seeing this vid for the first time many years ago.

I have to admit not "getting" the point of The Nerd back then, I thought he was an idiot that just liked to bitch at old games. I didn't realize he was a character.

Still one has to admit, this vid is not exactly "well made" or as iconic as The Nerd will later become.

It took me a while before I became a fan of The Nerd and James as a film-maker, but I have been now for many years.

AVGN is great. I start over for the third time. Every time I watch these episodes I found interesting facts about games and what not. Sometime I really feel sorry for poor Nerd. He really is "cursed" to play this nasty , hardest anti friendly games for our own good.
I am glad that I found him randomly on You Tube.

PS. Check this movie: Return Of Ghost busters. AVGN has a cameo part there. Also he has credit at the end of the movie. I believe he helps on creators with something and they give him respect with special thanks at the end.

How the hell did the kids back at the castlevania times figured out the tornado thing? I mean, It seams more like a secret stuff then the actual game line...

I actually played this game on an emulator, and I'm not sure if it was a hack, but the only time I lost hearts was when I fell in water, not every time I died. Still, losing your currency by falling in water is bullshit. Does Simon have a lead box he keeps his hearts in and it sinks when he goes into a pool of water? Give me a break. Great review, James!

Hello there, Angry Video Game Nerd. I don't know if you ever check the comments on older episodes or if this one comes off as creepy, but I'm a guy from Maine who cares about separating the cream from the chaff. Especially in this country, where much of this chaff smells like it came from an eighty year old gorilla's ass.

Anyway, I was introduced to you when I perused Youtube for a guide to unlocking planes in "Sky Odyssey"-for the PS2-when I came across your "Bible Games" episode. It was un-fucking-believably hilarious when you pointed out how Noah trumps the Hulk...even so that I had to see what other worthless games you played and rated. Now I'm gonna listen and laugh my 6' tall ass off from episode one. Good luck and Godspeed!

P.S. Don't you just hate how messed up sequels can be? You say that Castlevania 1 & 3 were better than #2, but I cannot believe why the "Underworld" and "From Dusk Till Dawn" film trilogies have the prequels as their third installments. What the fucking hell is their logic?

This is the reason I found the Nerd. I had been living in Japan for like 3 years, and I was bored as shit one day, but feeling very nostalgic and wanting to play/see video games so i just thought of a game I liked, and typed it in on youtube, and up came this video,... ... and i just started to follow from there..... been a fan ever since..

A classic nerd episode, its funny how far the character has come throughout the series.

After watching the game played in person...I have to agree with you...this game may be a Classic, but the Day to Night Transitions are awful!! And that game...it just needed some more time. If the game designers had more time, maybe the game wouldn't have sucked so hard....

I started playing Castlevania after I saw your video.I almost finished the Castlevania 1, but the final boss the dracula is verry tough and I can't go through it. Then I started playing Castlevania 2 Simons Quest and I agree with your comments, but some of the things in this game is verry hard but not Impossible like the part when simon should bend down holding the red crystal at the clif that advice is given by some villager and you mentioned that some of the rooms in the town are empty but some have secret path beneth the floor.

I had not finished this game yet but I will.

Simon's Quest actually got some praise for other people like X-Play on G4. But don't get me wrong, James. I understand how frustraiting the game is for gamers like yourself; like the day-to-night deally, the criptic ways to advance to the next level, the graphics (mostly of Dracula), and how easy it is to end the game.

I also hate the water hazards. It's like the designers of these games think that water is like acid or lava. At least in games like today, we have the character come out of the water with little to no damage.
